Abel - She Came from a Land Down Under

[Toggle Names]

Description: A few days past the defeat in the King of Fighter's qualifier Abel finds himself still in Sydney earning some money to travel elsewhere. That is where he runs into the fresh faced and exciteable Hayley who has her own aspirations of becoming a great fight and wishes to test her skill against the grappling Frenchman.

[HAYLEY]
It's been a few days since the King of Fighters qualifier between Team Revengeance and the Anti-Wrestling Team. Repairs of the arena have already begun, and the fighters have no doubt had a chance to get some much needed medical work done before being left to their own devices. It's this last part, the likelihood that some of the competitors are spending a few days touring Australia that got the attention of one Hayley Bretherton, a local Australian fighter.

A FEW DAYS PRIOR

A young woman with dark spiky hair sits on a bus headed toward Australia. She's presently seated in the back of the bus with a smartphone propped up in front of her and a livestream of the KoF match playing on FightTube. Clad in a track suit with the jacket open, she works a knife through a jar of Vegemite balanced in her lap and puts it between two slices of bread. An open loaf of bread sits beside her, getting some questionable-to-angry glares from her fellow passengers.

"Oi, that's the stuff! You throw that ninja through the bloody floor!" she says over the sounds of Tornado Throw, her voice a bit too loud for public transit. The sound of the fight gets choppy suddenly. "Oh buggah," Hayley tries to move her phone to get better signal. She winds up proppping it on the man's shoulder in front of her. He gives her a nasty glare.

"Wot, mate? You want a sanger too?"

NOW

Hayley has been practically tossed off the bus near Sydney and stands near a bus stop on the fringe of town. She gets the occasional odd look, but most people are used to weirder here. She hoists up her backpack onto her shoulder before tugging her track jacket out of a tangle underneath it.

"Now how am I gonna find one of them here..." she mumbles to herself.

[ABEL]
Sometimes things just fall into place. Since losing out in the qualifying match Abel has stuck around Sydney partially to rest up and partially he at the moment is a bit short on money to leave the continent just yet. At least the weather isn't horrible and he did have a good conversation with Boman after the fight and got to wish the young fighter well on his future as he returned to Japan to continue his studies.

Then there was Marduk. In all honesty Abel doesn't hate the guy. It is just not easy to handle in large doses and during the build up to the fight he had dealt with just that. It is a relief Abel has managed to sneak away from the boisterous team mate and just enjoy taking in the sights of Sydney since he had never been here before. There is a bit of downside though that the locals are recognizing him a bit more now after the fight. Still....not everyone apparently knows who he is.

For example the thug that just got flung of an alleyway didn't realize he was trying to rob with a knife. Nor did his two friends that soon land in a heap on top of the first. This isn't happening too far from Hayley who will soon see Abel stepping out of the alley and leaning over to take the money of the would be robbers. Perhaps he will be able to afford a plane ticket elsewhere soon enough. "Think you very much." he says and turns about to wander away from the pile of unconcious thuggery while pocketing the money.

[HAYLEY]
Hayley snaps to attention as soon as she hears the first man fall. Instinctively her sneaker turns on the pavement as she adjusts her stance, readying herself for whatever rounds the corner. Two more thugs join the pile, and Hayley tilts her head at the spectacle. When Abel rounds the corner, it all makes sense. Hayley's eyes widen with excitement and she raises her clenched fist up in front of her.

"Hoy there!" Hayley exclaims, waving frantically to Abel. She springs forward, making her way down the sidewalk in basically two leaping steps. "Ran into a bit of trouble from some local toughs, did ya? Sorry about that. Some bogans don't know how to mind their manners. You're...Abel, right!" Hayley extends a friendly hand.

"I'm Hayley! I watched your fight the other day. Bloody good show. Brutal, that was."

[ABEL]
The Frenchman barely gets a few steps away from the thug pile before a rather spry young lady bounds up to him. He raises a brow. "It was no trouble. At least not for me." Of course for the would be robbers it was plenty of trouble. Rare is it one sets out to rob someone and up being poorer afterall.

Then she mentions him by name and looks to the offered hand. "I didn't exect my name to spread really." Then again he was on television for the world to see. Laying low isn't exactly going to be easy anymore. He does take the offered hand in his much bigger one and gives a firm shake. "It was a good fight, but....I should have done better." he admits while letting go.

Maybe it was nerves that got to him. The ninja was strong, but Abel knows he made mistakes he shouldn't have made. Even so it was a learning experience. It also just means he didn't advance like he hoped to face even stiffer competition. "Can I help you with something or did you just want to say hi?"

[HAYLEY]
"Oh I bet, I bet. Nothing like what you're used to," Hayley beams, still clearly excited. "Not sure if it's spreading all that fast, but you definitely got a bit of a reputation I think." Hayley's handshake is firm despite her the size difference. "Oh yeah? That's the right attitude to take I think. You gotta always strive to do better an' figure out what went wrong. Where you slipped up, what to remember if you meet again, where there's holes in your defense or offense..." Hayley rocks on her heels just a little as she talks. She also seems to have slipped her backpack off her shoulder and occasionally lets it down a little to raise it back up.

"So what do you call that style anyway? I'm feeling some judo in there, but judo doesn't have stuff like that wheel kick you threw," Hayley rubs her chin and looks down and to the side, apparently lost in thought for a moment. "Not much striking in general really, not to mention that combo you threw in there." she says, doing a hasty shadowboxing imitation of Abel's Change of Direction. It's far from perfect, but she seems to get the gist. It's in doing that, and making eye contact with Abel again, that she suddenly realize Abel asked her a question.

"Oh, right!" Hayley interrupts herself. "I'm a fighter too!" She thumbs her nose. "I was thinkin' if you don't have anywhere t'be and if you don't mind, maybe if we could have a go?"

[ABEL]
The young woman certainly is an energetic one. Abel at least is very good at listening. Or maybe it is more she isn't giving him much of a chance to respond as she asks quite a few questions without really a pause to give an answer to the one he gave or allow him to answer the various ones she makes. "I see." he simply replies. While Hayley can't seem to stop talking Abel doesn't seem to really be the biggest conversationalist.

"I don't really have a name for my style." he answers now that he has a moment to actually reply to her. "I had some formal training. Other things just come to me." Memories that he can't explain. Perhaps a vicious streak ingrained into him during his time being under Shadaloo control. "I suppose the best way to put it is a form of mixed martial arts."

He trails off and seems to consider things for a few moments when it comes to the question about a fight. His gaze moves from the young woman to around the area. It seems the thugs are moving and quickly making a retreat once they notice Abel's gaze upon them. The Frenchman then looks back to Hayley. "Here?"

[HAYLEY]
Hayley seems to appreciate Abel's listening, even if she's talking a bit too fast to give him any choice unless he interrupts. She crosses her arms and looks at him with a tilt of her head.

"Huh," she says, "Right clever anyway. I like it. Hard to believe some of those moves just came naturally though," she says, perhaps a little jealous. "But yeah," Hayley takes a look around, watching the robbers take off.

"Well," Hayley says, "what do you think, mate? I mean, there might be somewhere better if your up to it. I'm not picking. Just got her myself."

[ABEL]
There is a few more moments of thought then Abel just nods his head. "A good of place as any I suppose." he says and turns about to walk away a few steps. He takes a deep breath and stretches his arms up high and attempts to loosen up some. He didn't really need to put forth too much effort dispatching the thugs from earlier, but if Hayley is a fighter like she claims this will require more effort. At least it has been a few days since he took on Noboru so he isn't hurting too much right now. Just bouts of soreness here and there, but nothing he can't handle.

It seems a few sets of eyes are already on the pair. Perhaps even more once Abel raises his hands and his brow furrows. "En garde." he tells Hayley and he seems ready to fight.

And he doesn't look like he is going to make the first move, but let the younger fighter to strike first. In part out of curtesy and another part of him wanting to see just what Hayley can do so he has a general idea of how to approach the fight.

COMBATSYS: Abel has started a fight here.

[HAYLEY]
"Eh, works for me," Hayley shrugs, stepping off to the side. She sets down her backpack with a clunk before unlacing her shoes and kicking them off next to her bag. The track jacket comes next, as Hayley slips her arms out of it, drops it around her waist, then ties it in a knot there. She then rolls her own shoulders and pops her neck before bending each of her legs almost back to her head in turn, then kicking forward with them to get a good stretch.

Once she's done, Hayley shift into a slightly unorthodox stance. She bounces back and forth on her feet, taking short hops to limber herself up. Her fists are raised up like a boxer.

"Oh, giving me the first move, eh? Right sporting then, let's have a good match!" And then, Hayley is on the move. She plants her toes in front of her and then springs forward, launching in a single bounding leap that closes the gap between her and Abel. As she lands she pivots on her hip, swinging her fist foreward in a short, quick, rabbit punch aimed for his chin as a test of his guard.

COMBATSYS: Hayley has joined the fight here.

[ABEL]
He just nods in agreement when she makes the comment about having a good match. He isn't much of a talker to begin with and that carries over even more so when he is ready to fight. He seems focused and watching the movements of Hayley. Even if she might be young he cannot take her lightly which is exactly why he isn't the one rushing in right away to strike.

As for his guard? She finds out soon it is pretty good as he shifts to bring up his arm to let that punch connect with a forearm instead of his chin. It is an upward strike she would have to make anyways given the size advantage Abel has which also means he has the reach advantage. Something he is going to take full advantage of.

Hayley's quickness is sooon tested to see if she can slip away as fast as she came bounding in. Abel lowers his arm then goes low as each arm looks to grasp at one of the Aussie's legs and just straight pull them out from under her and sending her down onto the hard sidewalk.

COMBATSYS: Abel successfully hits Hayley with Drop Throw.

[HAYLEY]
Hayley's swift upward punch impacts with Abel's guard with a thump, and Hayley shows her teeth in excitement. Even so, she's posed to spring back right when Abel reaches out for her legs. The end result is Hayley is is half-jump before Abel takes her legs right out from under her, causing the Aussie to flop backward and land hard on her back and head against the pavement.

"Bloody hell," Hayley says, rubbing her head as she plants her elbow and sits up partly. "Botched that one, didn't I?" she says with a weak laugh.

But then Hayley suddenly plants her other hand and launches herself forward toward Abel with what looks like a double kick. As she flies, however, she transitions into a scissors takedown, spreading her feet to try and grapple the Frenchman between her legs. If she succeeds she pivots and shifts to use her bodyweight to throw him to the ground. From there, Hayley applies pressure with her hefty thighs, aiming to give Abel a good squeeze before shifting again to leg toss him away--despite the size and weight difference between them. She may be young, but she's definitely been conditioning that leg strength.

COMBATSYS: Abel fails to interrupt Crocodile Tear from Hayley with EX Tornado Throw EX.

[ABEL]
Just gives another nod. He knows well when things don't quite go the way he wants at times. It has happened before and it will happen again. It ends up perhaps beening even sooner than he expected.

He watches Hayley push off the ground and instead of come at him in a more traditional sense she is coming at him legs first. He holds his ground and hands look to be reaching out to use his reach advantage again to snatch the Aussie right out of the air. What he had planned for after that? Well Hayley luckily will never know because he looks to have judged the angle she was coming in at wrong and she gets her legs wrapped around him. Even more so it isn't an easy task but with the momentum she has she does manage to pull him to the ground.

As far as crushing goes? Well he is a stout man even if she has good leg strength it isn't seeming to hurt him too much. More that it is just an added distraction as he tries to regather his wits and proceed. For now she at least isn't getting thrown around for a few more moments.

[HAYLEY]
Rolling back around, Hayley springs back onto her feet. She lands with a "hup" and dusts herself off before working her legs a little. "You're a sturdy one, ain'tcha? Not used to hitting that much resistance," Hayley chuckles--maybe a little nervously, before shifting back into her bouncy boxing stance. "Think I lucked out there," she says, "you were planning something big with that one. I could feel it." Hayley grins at Abel. She seems to be enjoying herself at least. "Guess I'm gonna have to keep my guard up bettah." Hayley bounces back and forth, looking Abel over well for a moment.

And then she pivots on her heel, but doesn't move forward. Wind whips up around her as she spins, her chi aura manifesting through a brief personal tornado. "Emu--" Hayley mutters to herself as she winds up. As she finishes her spin she swings forward with a strong right hook that throws the gathered chi forward in a whipping, boomerang like projectile of blue chi.

"Shoot!"

COMBATSYS: Hayley successfully hits Abel with Emu Shoot.

Hayley picked the best time to leg go and move away. Abel was finally recovered and staying up that close wasn't going to end up well. "I suppose I am." His voice a bit monotone, but he seems more trying to keep focused on the fight and less on the talking. "You are doing fine."

Now that he is back to his feet he takes a breath and starts forward. He only maybe gets to advance a step or two though before that boomerang looking blast of chi comes hurtling his way. He puts his arms up and continues forward, but the impact stops him for a moment......but only a brief one.

He is quick to shake off the effects and he comes looking to be aiming high with a swinging right cross, but it ends up being a feint as he pivots on his foot and looks to deliver a low sweeping kick instead.

[HAYLEY]
Hayley briefly seems smug when her Emu Shoot hits Abel directly, but when he keeps charging her confidence slips a little bit. Instead she backsteps and raises her guard, bobbing back and forth to keep herself mobile enough to block. The right cross comes for her, and she looks ready to guard it.

But at the last moment spots the feint, twisting on the ball of her foot to bring her leg sideways in a leg block of the kick. Her calve meets Abel's foot and stomps the blow, but even then it's enough to launch Hayley off her feet and back two steps. Despite the short flight she lands perfectly on one foot and regains her balance with only a brief stumble.

"Oi, sorry, I'm just a bit of a motormouth, you're prolly trying to focus over there. I'll try'n clam up." Whether this promise will be held remains to be seen. Whatever the case, Hayley spins again, swinging her leg out in a wide, sweeping roundhouse toward Abel's side.

His foot connects, but not in the way as intended. Even with the quick thinking though Hayley can tell it was a good move on her part to keep from taking the kick full on. Abel isn't pulling any punches, or kicks for that matter, which is a sign of respect. Hayley did want a fight afterall and it would be rude of him not to give it his all.

"You can talk. Apologies if I don't so much." he comments and looks to side step the kick being sent his way. For the most part he does avoid it with only the heel grazing him and causing him to stagger for just a moment. He is quick to regain his balance and he grasps for Hayley once more. Both hands reach out with one aiming for an arm and the other a leg before using his strength to heft Hayley upward sinto the air and set her over his broad shoulders in a form of a fireman's carry. Of course the ride begins if Hayley can't escape his grasp.

There seems a change in plans once Abel gets the grip on the arm and instead his other goes for shoulder of Hayley as he charges forward until pushing her hard into a wall to daze her. The strikes from earlier she asked about are felt and she might have a better chance at immitating his punches and kicks now after a display of him just unloading several of each into the young Aussie before he finally staggers back and takes a sharp breath.

"Sorry." he perhaps overdid it. A moment of lost control. Something he worries that still lingers from his time being under Shadaloo's control. He really needs to be careful before it goes too far one day. Hopefully a day that won't come.

[HAYLEY]
Hayley's heel grazes Abel, so she rides the spin on around to put herself in position to move again. Unfortunately for her, Abel's follow-up is much, much faster than she anticipated. The larger man barrels into her, knocking the wind out of the Aussie with a gasp and a cry of pain. Her barrels backwards with her and slams her into the wall, knocking the rest of the wind out of her before unleashing a flurry of punches and kicks. When he's done, Hayley drops down onto her butt with a low groan...but she keeps her guard up. She's got that going for her at least.

With a cough, she leans on the wall to climb back up. "It's--it's fine," she wheezes, still catching her breath. She already feel the bruises and lacerations from that one--and it shows with how she staggers a little once she steps away from the wall. Despite it all, she goes back to her stance, even if it's a little less peppy than before. "Gotta give your all in a fight, right?" she manages to sputter out. It takes her several moments, but eventually she gets some of her spring back, and from there she's back on the offensive.

Hayley spins again, this time moving toward Abel. Each pivot, gains momentum, chi gathering and swirling around her as she picks up speed and focuses her energy. She spins once, twice, three times toward Abel, gaining speed all along the way. As she zeroes she slams her foot forward hard and pours all that gathered power and momentum into trembling hook uppercut that she puts her whole body into, springing forward with her legs and throwing her hips into it. The force of the blow is likely enough to take Abel off his feet if it hits, and Hayley fully intends to go with him in her rising punch!

And riding the upperward momentum of the spinning punch, Hayley shoots through the air alongside Abel. As they hit the peak of the jump, she suddenly turns and latches onto him with her legs, shifting their position to flip them both around into an end-over-end tumble back toward the ground. As they hit the bottom of the fall, Hayley positions herself above Abel, intending to land on him with a full-intensity seated slam that combines the momentum of their fall with the considerable mass of Hayley's hind-end.

[ABEL]
He seems a bit relieved that Hayley is okay. It was easy to see concern in his features, but they seem to clear up when Hayley manages to speak up and get to her feet. He just gives a small nod and steps forward as if to meet her when she comes hurtling in for another strike.

She gets in low and she breaks this Abel's defenses with that punch that even rocks the big man and launches him in the air which is no easy feat. And then he gets spun about and tangled up with Hayley as she drives him hard on the ground which leaves the sidewalked in bad shape. It is cracked in several places and even a bit of a hole has been put on there where the brunt of the impact was. There are also several eyes on the fight now as Hayley sits atop of Abel who is unmoving.

Or at least he was for a moment. His hand reaches up to grasp Haley by the arm again and give a tug. Something to pull her off, but still enough force being his grip and the tug to where she has to be careful not to be tossed right into the nearby wall.

Hayley sits triumphantly for a moment, but her attention soon shifts to Abel. "That was pretty good, roight?" A pause when she notices he's not moving. "--you okay, mate? I didn't hurt you to hard did I? I was just--" A hand snaps out and grabs Hayley's arm, then chucks her off of Abel and toward the wall. "Aieee!"

She curls up as she hits the wall, bouncing off with less of an impact than it could have been. Staggering back to her feet again. "G-Guess so!" She sizes up Abel for a moment, trying to weigh her options. "Ya throw hard and take hits like a pro. S'no wonder you were in the King of Fighters. That what kind of fighting material's out there? Makes me excited just thinkin' about it!" And with that, Hayley spins again--just once this time, then launches from the momentum of her spin into a flying knee strike. If she's not intercepted, she practically bounces off Abel from there, landing away to try and keep her distance.

"Just needed a moment." is all he says while getting back up to his feet now that she is not sitting on top of him. He gives a shake of his head and looks to refocus. "And there are far worse out there than me." he pauses. "And if you see my team mate I would avoid him. He is not very good with women." And that is putting it very mildly. Of course Hayley would know if she caught any of the latter parts of that fight after both Abel and Noboru were downed.

He steadies himself and waits for the younger fighter to come at him once more. He looks ready this time and perhaps he is feeling the effects of that last hard hit more than he was showing. It is another miscalculation that leads to him taking the knee and staggering him back and Hayely sails away unharmed. Or at least for a few moments longer she is unharmed.

Abel is already recovered by the time she lands and is closing ground fast. There is nothing too fancy about what he does. He just looks to pick her up by the shoulders and throw her down onto the ground once more. She is much less dangerous that way afterall.

[HAYLEY]
"Yeah, I know a bit 'bout Craig Marduk," Hayley says, "I'll fight him later maybe. When I'm ready to tackle that boggan head on." But before she can say more, Hayley is assailed by a charging Abel. As he closes the gap and reaches for her, Hayley shifts her position working herself up to focus her chi. She beats her fist together, then spins around to putt her back to Abel. From there she launches at the bigger man to try and plow into him with her hips.

Unfortunately for the Aussie, she's a bit too slow. She winds up getting grabbed by the shoulders mid-hop, lifted, and slammed back on the ground. Clonk. She's clearly still breathing, but from what he can tell, she's definitely knocked right out for the moment.

[ABEL]
Given what Abel has learned about this young lady so far he doubts he could talk her out of it, but at least she doesn't seem in a rush to go track down Marduk right away. He takes a few steps back after planting Hayley onto the ground more and he gives it a moment. After seeing she isn't getting up right away he eases his stance. He is battered and breathing a bit hard, but he manages to keep upright as he walks back over to the younger fighter.

He then reaches down to help pull her back up to her feet and even dusts her off a bit before helping lean her against a wall so she won't fall over. "I hope it was a good learning experience. I am not much of a teacher."

There he leans back against the wall himself. Mostly to take a moment to let the pain and aches sort of settle down and catch his breath. That and he isn't exactly going to leave a person resting against the wall unconcious when people like that group of thugs could be around......well maybe he would do that to Marduk.

COMBATSYS: Abel has ended the fight here.

[HAYLEY]
Hayley sputters as she wakes up, taking Abel's hand and letting herself be lifted off the ground and propped against the wall. She wipes her mouth with her glove, dabbing up spit and blood from where she bit her lip.

"I dunno," she says, a bit slurred. "I think I learned quite a bit there." She extends the other hand (the one she didn't wipe her mouth with) to offer Abel a fistbump. Afterward, she runs her fingers through her hair to straighten the sweaty muss. "Thanks for the fight, mate. I'm looking forward to meetin' ya again sometime. Where you on the way to now, if ya don't mind me askin?"

[ABEL]
It seems the fist bump isn't a usual thing Abel deals with. It takes a moment to realize what is being offered and a big fist lightly bumps off hers. "An interesting style to come up against I admit. A learning experience for us both." he says and pushes off the wall and hmms.

His hand slips into his pocket and he pulls out the money and starts to count. "Not sure. Here a bit longer." Depending on what odd jobs he can do or if he has more lucky like earlier with the thugs. "No plans after failing to qualify for the tournament. I am sure I will find myself off somewhere else." Hopefully somewhere with a lead to any Shadaloo activities, but given the recent cold trail he isn't going to hold his breath.

"I am sure we will cross paths again at some point. Just not sure when." With that he turns to leave and he looks back over his shoulder to Hayley and gives one more nod. "Do be careful. Many fighters out there that aren't the nicest people. Many worse than Marduk as well." With that word of caution being given he moves on unsure what will come next, but also feeling pretty good about the scrap he just had.
