Nightwolf - Teenagers Scare the Crap Out of Me

Description: Well, not necessarily a teenager but Mimiru's young enough. When out in the woods to greet more newcomers to Bastion Village, Nightwolf runs into Mimiru who's hoping to get some excitement by fighting Darkstalkers. Although successful in driving her off, Nightwolf knows that the pink haired girl roaming close to the hidden village can mean nothing but trouble to the Society in the future.

More and more training : Mimiru didn't seem to mind. In fact, the girl has proven to be one of the most resilient and vigorous one of the lot, as if it was totally impossible to total drain her out of all of her energy. Her reckless and daredevil behaviour were hard to keep in reigns, always looking for a good time and it often involved doing incredibly dangerous and stupid things. She did not defy authority but she had an incredibly selective memory.

After stumbling on some report of Darkstalker activity, with the lack of commander Kliff to deal with such things, Mimiru had decided to go out on her own to take care of that threat! Finally something exciting! Confident in her ability to deal with them, thanks to her previous encounter with the demon within the walls of the Holy Order, Mimiru was pretty confident in her ability to defeat any threat she could encounter.

No fancy attire or weapons this time as Mimiru got to the location where the Darkstalkre sighting have been reported, a dark and mysterious forest in japan. Fortunately, by the time they'll find out Mimiru has left, she'll have found the den of infested evil!

Dark and mysterious indeed, ripe for Darkstalker activity if there was ever one.

So much in fact that it does not require an expert Demon Hunter to follow the trail left by these shadowy denizens of the darkness. A group of footprints clearly inhuman in shape are seen walking towards a well hidden forest out in the wilderness of Japan. The trail is followed by broken branches of large people pushing their way through the woods, accompanied with that unmistakable aura given off by inhuman creatures. Just as Mimiru might imagine in her overwhelming confidence, the trail leads to a group of obvious monsters that are huddled together in search of something, no doubt for hapless humans to prey on.

Interestingly enough, these monsters are covered in brown robes and there seem to be women and children with them. They look like they are lost themselves rather than the vicious Darkstalkers that the Holy Orders usually encounter... but it's surely just a trick by these monsters to confuse any one would try to hunt them down.

Its only when the group, and Mimiru herself since she's following them, move further into the forest that things start to get more interesting.

The group of monsters freezes as there is movement ahead and a dark skinned man wearing wolf robes comes out to greet them. He looks human in appearance, but does not have a human aura.. nor does he have a Darkstalker aura either.. he seems to be something entirely different.

The man with the wolf robes holds his hand up in greetings to the group and apparently starts talking to them. But who on their right man would willingly talk to Darkstalkers? This looks all kinds of odd.

It was either a demon or a rather big bear that must have left those footprints and broke all those branches! Looks like Mimiru's tracking skills brought her to the right place. Her lips curl into a delighted smile and she follows the trails with stealth, until she finally meets up with the group of hooded monsters ahead.

The pink haired lass remains in hiding for the time being, observing the beasts from a distance. The outfits seem most likely to hide their monstruous appearance if they were to encounter any human, most likely.

Then suddenly, someone arrives : some sort of human though clad in weird clothings. He approaches the monsters. Mimiru's eyes widen : is he blind or something? He's going to get killed! And now he's talking with them! Oh no, they must have put some kind of spell on him, like a Siren's call or something. This must be it.

Mimiru has to act fast : or at least she believes, since he doesn't to realize what danger he's into. Mimiru grits her teeth. There was no time to lose, or else they might bring him God knows where and do God knows what to him.

"Out of the way, filthy monsters! Kyaaa!" Mimiru shouts as she lungs out from her hiding spot. Adding some backbone to her barks, Mimiru summons forth a wave of flame that she fires from her forearm to scare away the hooded monsters so they're forced to step away from Nightwolf.

"What the--"

It's not the monsters that react first, strangely enough, but the hooded man with the wolf pelts. There's a blur of green energy as the dark stranger pushes through the group of Darkstalkers and intercepts the wave of flames thrown at them by shielding them with his body. Bright green power surround his body and he seems to absorb the flames into him.. like if he just ate them.

"Go! Run!" Calls out the man to the Darkstalkers behind him and they heed his call. The robbed denizens of the dark look frightened and begin to dash away, with some of them grabbing the younger looking Darkstalkers and carrying them out from there, into the woods, and into safety. Away from Mimiru.

Now only the dark skinned fellow stands before the pink haired knight, and he summons a glowing battle axe to his hand. He raises his head to peer at the girl from under his wolf hood and white blanks eyes stare at her, as if he were indeed blind.

"Who are you?" Asks the stranger standing in Mimiru's path. "Are you with the Hunter's Guild?"

The woman lands a dozens of feet away from Nightwolf. Her facial expression seems genuinely surprised when the actually moves in front of her flame to shield the Darkstalkers from it. It appears her plan totally backfired on her though as her main purpose was to prevent them from reaching out the man and now he's the one defending the monsters.

Mimiru narrows her eyes and frowns as the creatures flee behind Nightwolf. She glances back at Nightwolf and arches a brow, "Man, I've heard those creatures were able to pull off some dirty, but I would have never expected something like that..."

It was the only explaination : either he was some demon or this man was totally enthralled and spellbound.

Mimiru's lips curl into a wide grin at the question, "They call me the Dame of Crimson Flames," She beams a bit, "Hunter's Guild? Nah'" She says, dismissingly, "I thought I was going to save your butt, but I'm starting to think you were with these guys, aren't you?"

The man seems to be too aware of himself and his surroundings to be enthralled. If he were just a mindless flesh puppet, its unlikely he'd waste time asking questions, or talking to being with.

Then again, the question is if Mimiru has enough experience, or insight, to actually figure that one out.

Right now though the more likely answer is that he's a demon himself. What else could he be dressed like that and with those eyes? Not to mention the ability to summon magical energy weapons at will.

There is certainly darkness within him as Mimiru might be able to sense. But if she's proficient at sensing auras she might also notice that there's genuine good within him, almost overwhelmingly so. It is as if a constant battle of light and darkness was happening within this man. Though again, only if Mimiru is able to sense that sort of thing to begin with.

For now, the stranger gazes impassively at the pink haired young woman, weighing her answers and questions. He raises his axes and begins to rub at the energy blade with his thumb, neither a defensive or aggressive stance, more like just being idle.

"I am know as Nightwolf." Answers he. "A Sin Eater and Demon Hunter." The shaman's eyes narrow trying to discern Mimiru's motives. She says she's not with the wild, and she's clearly a believer knowing that those were in fact Darkstalkers. But that does not mean that he's going to trust her right away, particularly not after she just shot a fireball at the children of the night he's trying to protect.

"Those Darkstalkers are my kin." He explains. "What business do you have with them? O' Dame of Crimson Flames."

While Nightwolf might have seemed human from a distance, the more Mimiru stares at him the more she notices his unnatural features. His attire was bizarre enough, his eyes felt otherwordly. The energy he manifests doesn't trouble Mimiru overtly : after all, she's able to create flames through her chi and that doesn't make her a demon.

His answers make her arch a brow, "You're a Demon Hunter?" She asks, skeptical. Her eyes blink at Nightwolf's next sentence. Mimiru seems confused for a moment, "You can't be a demon hunter and on their side at the same time,"

Mimiru shifts her posture, revealing her intention to fight. Her lips curl into a smirk : that's what she came here for after all, didn't she, "I thought you were in danger, but you've been with them all along... Tsss, I don't know what's going on here, but I came to neutralize your small bunch..."

"Just as there is evil and good within humans, so there is a duality within Darkstalkers." The shaman answers cryptically, and far too quickly too, like he had rehearsed this answer many, many times. In truth, Nightwolf gets asked this question a lot, and at this point he might be able to recite the entire Sin Eater spill even while asleep.

However, he still realizes that was it completely natural to him still sounds like a completely alien concept to many people still. The world still has a long way to go before it even begins to understand what Darkstalkers are, and similarly, just because this girl is a believer doesn't mean she knows the entire truth.

That much is clear when she says she came to hunt these Darkstalkers.

"The Children of the Night that I protect pose a threat to no one. We merely wish to be left in peace." Nightwolf continues to rub the blade of his energy axe, looking just a tad more tense now, white eyes glowing like a wolf staring at an invader usurping his territory.

"I ask that you do not try to harm them."

The 'Or else' is left unspoken, but Nightwolf's posture implies that there will be problems if Mimiru doesn't listen to him.

Monsters are monsters.

As simple as that. There's no such thing as a nice vampire, one way or the other, it poses a threat to humanity, right? That's why the Holy Order are fighting them.

The pink haired girl narrows her eyes and she asks, "Really? Do they now?" By her intonation she seems to find that hard to believe, even if her interaction with Darkstalkers has been rather minimal in her life. Mimiru lifts her hands up and she cracks her knuckles, "You know far too well that it'll just be a matter of time before someone comes to them,"

Her lips curl into a grin and she says, "Beside, before I can do that, I have to take care of you, don't I?" Flames burst out of her right fist and Mimiru glances from her fist to Nightwolf. Looks like she's taken her decision!

The young woman lunges at Nightwolf, the flames around her arm flaring up to life as she lashes out a whip like line of flames toward Nightwolf's midsection.

"Believe what you will, girl. You will not pass."

Nightwolf's eyes grow brighter as he finally stops rubbing the blade of his axe. Realizing now that he has a fight on his hands, the shaman assumes an Okichitaw battle stance and prepares himself to engage the girl, even while still scolding her for her obsolete believes, though he still doesn't know her actual affiliation or even her real name.

"And when they come, I will be there to stop them." Declares the Apache as he smacks the flaming fist out of the way with the flat of his axe.

Just like he's going to stop her apparently.

Successfully knocking the attack out of the way, Nightwolf follows up the momentum of his weapon parry to smash Mimiru's temple with the back, blunt portion of his energy axe and drive her away.

His flawless defense against the chi flames cause Mimiru's smile to widen in excitment. If it is any indication of what to expect from him, she'll definately going to have a fight worth her time.

She barely has the time to recover from the deflected blow, her arms moving up to block the energy axe before it smacks her temple. Her bad position and the force of Nightwolf's blow forces her to stagger backward in order to recover her balance.

The woman was swift and nimble, but Nightwolf's speed definately put her reflexes to the test. "We'll see -- whatever happens, this is exactly what I've been looking for," Mimiru says. "Let's see if you're able to stop a rookie then,"

With those words, Mimiru lunges at Nightwolf, flames bursting out from her right leg as she swings it up straight for Nightwolf's midsection, empowered by her chi to knock him up. She quickly follows up by bringing both of her hands together and attempts to smash him down over the head right after the flaming kick.

A rookie?

Nightwolf could sort of kinda tell that he was dealing with an upstart warrior of some sort, despite Mimiru's bold demeanor and exotic title. She had trained skill, /someone/ had taught her how to fight, although it's clear that she hasn't been at it for an extremely long time. Then there's also the issue of her apparent youth, she was clearly younger than the shaman, that's for sure. Odd, very odd, could Nightwolf have another case of Miki on his hands? He certainly hopes not, one extroverted, eccentric, misguided fighter was enough.

As he continues to analyse his opponent, Nightwolf takes a few steps back after his attack is blocked to make some distance. The swung kick thrown at him is deflected when he kicks back at it in a Tae Kwan Do defensive maneuver, stopping the kick from ever connecting to his midsection by kicking it away.

When the sledgehammer blow comes to his head, Nightwolf reaches up to catch Mimiru's arms and he twists around on his heel to toss the girl over his head with a shoulder throw. That's not the part that hurts though, that's when Nightwolf absorbs Mimiru's flames into his body, eating them like he did her first projectile, and coats his own fists with Mimiru's fire.

As the Apache slams the girl on the ground he punches her hard on the face with her own fire fist technique and steps back, still looking more pensive than anything.

"Who are you really? Where you sent by someone?"

Her cursorary evaluation of Nightwolf has proven to be somewhat acurate. Agile enough to react to her moves and prevent her from defending herself correctly. Mimiru flails a bit in midair as she loses control of her momentum, a groan escaping her throat as he smacks her face with his flaming fist.

She rolls on the ground shortly afterward, her skin slightly flushed from the heat of the flames, a bit of blood coming out of her nose from the smack. The girl seems slightly dazed by the hit and she tries to take some distance from Nightwolf in order to recover from the dizziness.

She lifts one arm up to wipe off the blood from her nose, glaring up at Nightwolf as she rises up to her feet. "Nobody sent me here officially -- but it's just a matter of time before the real deal comes here," Mimiru says, "My name's Mimiru Kasagi," She adds. Though she doubts Nightwolf would care about this, "Darkstalkers hanging around like that, you ought to expect that, it's a big nest of trouble..."

Her lips curl into a wide grin, "I'm here for the entertainment : fighting off demon is just an extra, ahah," Mimiru growls as she lifts both of her arms up, flames bursting out from her forearms. She whips them out in front of her, hurling a cross-shaped wave of flames in Nightwolf's direction.

Before the 'real deal' comes.

Those words make Nightwolf frown deeply under his wolf hood. The 'real deal' for him was the Hunter's Guild knocking on Bastion Village's door. A possibility that although the shaman had taken great steps to avoid was inevitable in the end. His only card to play for that was that when it indeed they would be ready to defend themselves and maybe wipe them out. A good offense is a good defense when it came to Society's tactics. However, did that mean that this girl was with them? A possibility, even if she claims that no one sent her. Mimiru's answers drew more questions than anything else for the shaman.

The fireblast comes and this time, Nightwolf only manages to bring his axes into an X block to minimize the damage. However it seems he avoided the worst of it and he begins to warily approach Mimiru. "Entertainment? Is that what this is?"

Does she find joy in the death of others or something? Nightwolf couldn't sense evil within the girl either. She wasn't telling the whole truth here.

There is no way this girl is an independent agent, someone is backing her up in some way shape or form.

"If you are not with the Guild then under what banner do you fight?"

As he speaks, he's dashing forward again with a short quick step, and swinging a quick back fist to Mimiru's already bloodied nose, keeping the pressure on her while getting as much information as he can from her.

Mimiru           0/-------/--=====|==-----\-------\0        Nightwolf

There was no evil in Mimiru, nor did she lie about her intentions. The bold and reckless attitude that brought her here, she craves the adrenaline rush from this battle and the fact she fights against those supernatural beings only seems to make the fight-lust all the more appealing.

As for the death of those monsters, Mimiru didn't have the chance to kill any demons or monsters yet. She did hunt one before but she was happy to merely neutralize him and pin him down instead. Truth be told, she has plenty left to learn in the art of demon hunting. "Mostly -- I doubt you can understant," The woman says.

When Nightwolf comes lunging at her, she attempts to shift her weight and grasp his arm in a similar fashion as he did with her before. Alas her movements lack the grace and agility required to perform her technique in time and she ends up getting punched in the face once more.

Mimiru staggers backward a couple of steps before she falls on her back and rolls awkwardly, managing to get back on her feet in a semi-crouched posture. She grunts, one hand going to her face, while the other is held up to defend herself as she gets back on her feet, "Why would you care under what banner I fight?" Mimiru asks, "In the end, what difference does it make?"

"Try me."

If there is one thing that Nightwolf has proven he remarkably excels at, besides nigh suicidal bravery, is that he is a very understanding teacher who deals very well with upstart, reckless, warriors. Time and time again do people bring their problems to him, thinking that they are unsolvable, and he proves them otherwise. The only real problem is that he doesn't fix the problems for them, he just gives them solutions, and its ultimately their choice if they want to take Nightwolf's advice or not.

"It makes all the difference in the world." The Apache explains after punching Mimiru away. It looks like he's going to continue attacking her but relents a moment later to instead switch to his teacher mode.

"Conviction is what separates the fighters from the real warriors. Where mortal strength fails us, faith keeps us in the field of battle, longer than we have any right to."

"I sense this drive within you, there must be something that is causing it."

Nightwolf extends his hands and he glows with an unearthly glow, green energy flowing out from the trees to empower him as if the very land around him was coming to his aid.

"I fight for Earthrealm. I fight for all who live in this world."

"Whom do you fight for, Mimiru Kasagi?"

"I don't fight fot lofty ideals or any noble cause," Mimiru simply replies, her expression softening a little. The woman closes her eyes for a second, as if seeking which drives her to fight inside of her.

"I fight for myself," Mimiru admits, her hands clenching into fists as she reassumes her aggressive stance, "The only way that I truly feel alive," She adds, her lips curling into a smirk, figuring this is probably not the answer he was seeking, "You fight for a noble cause -- much more noble convictions than I do,"

Alas, now was not the time for such a debate -- especially not with someone whom could be considered a demon from Mimiru's point of view. The unearthly glow and rush of energy through Nightwolf might be enough to discourage most fighter from carrying on, but it only arouses Mimiru's desire to fight more. Focusing on her own energy, flames swirl around of Mimiru in slow circles.

She rushes toward Nightwolf and once she's close enough, she screams as she unleashes a torrent of swirling flames around of her meant to engulf Nightwolf within it.

As it often happens with young stalwart warriors, their convictions are often terribly complicated or incredibly simple.

It seems to be the latter in Mimiru's case, and that is not the answer that Nightwolf was looking for either. The threat of 'the real deal' still linger in the back of Nightwolf's mind. Who was Mimiru referring to? It had to be someone she was working with. How else would a young woman like herself, and one who is clearly not a veteran in the field, be this far by herself? This doesn't make any sense to Nightwolf, who is starting to think that Mimiru is avoiding his questions on purpose.

Maybe he'll just have to beat the answers out of her.

"Hmrg.." The Apache grunts as Mimiru is once again on the attack, unleashing a torrent of flames upon him. The shaman curls his arms forward to protect his face and body from the fire. He emerges from the blast somewhat scorched but with enough energy to unleash an elemental attack of his own.

"HOKA HEY!!" Cries the shaman as he raises his hands on the air and a lighting bolt forms on his palms that shoots straight for Mimiru's chest.

Mimiru's wise enough to know that she shouldn't have come here on her own. Her daredevil nature and desire for action always had a tendency to get her into trouble : she's been like that in her adult life unfortunately. The least she can do is try not to get the people she's working with in trouble and even if she tries her best to act innocent on that part, Nightwolf seems to know better.

The young woman quickly shifts her posture into an evasive one, leaping one of the way and rolling on the ground to avoid the incoming lightning bolt. She ends up in a crouched position, though definately not in the best posture to counter attack.

She leaps at Nightwolf and spins on her heels in an attempt to deliver him a rapid backward kick to his midsection.

It's too late to play innocent now, not after Mimiru implied there something else much bigger than her coming. Nightwolf is a perceptive fellow like that, and though he can't fully discern Mimiru's origins, he knows there's something she isn't telling him.

His other option of 'beating the answers out of her' is looking a bit less reliable now. Mimiru may be a rookie, but she's a trained rookie, and that means the Apache can't stop all of her attacks. If Mimiru keeps throwing stuff at him, one of them is bound to stick.

This happens when the pink haired girl rolls under the lightning bolt and swings a kick towards the Apache. Nightwolf sees the blow coming and plans to simply move through the blow to plow into the girl with brute strength. That's not always the correct choice though, as the kick impact solidly on his liver and forces him to back pedal, receiving a lot more pain that he was prepared to deal with.

He quickly shakes his head though and advances anyway, the momentum was already going and now even he can't stop it. Two glowing axes appear on his hands and he steps into Mimiru's guard, swinging them hard against her jaw and temple.

The young woman seems about to press the assault on Nightwolf but the Apache manages to recover faster than Mimiru had expected. The first smack on her jaw stuns her and the second on her temple merely adds to the dizziness Mimiru is feeling, bruising her face further.

It knocks her back and Mimiru feels the toll of his attack on her, the world spinning a bit around her, her knees trembling as she struggles to keep her eyes still. She keeps her guard up, momentarily, trying to keep a distance between her and Nightwolf. If she presses it, odds are she might end up defeated by this man and she definately doesn't want to know what he'd do with her.

"Alright..." Mimiru says, spitting a bit of blood out of her mouth as she slowly steps back, "... That's enough for now, you've won this time," Mimiru says, panting loudly. He managed to knock at least a bit of sense into her as she turns on her heels and runs away from him.

Enough excitement for one day?

"Tsk.." Nightwolf smacks his lips with Mimiru turns and flee from Kombat. He makes no effort to chase after her either, she's gotten nowhere near Bastion Village, nor does she even know where the invisible entrance is, running after her would only assure her that there's something important here which is not what Nightwolf wants.

Dismissing his axes, the Apache shakes his head only after he sees Mimiru disappear through the bushes and heads back to Bastion Village, thumbs on his sash.

"Kids.."

They really ought to find other ways to entertain themselves besides picking fights with strangers in forests.
