Nightwolf - That Escalated Quickly

Description: Eager to engage in combat once again, the werewolf Azumi thinks that challenging Nightwolf to a friendly spar will be just what she needs to get her groove back. Everything goes well until some vixen intrusion gives Azumi a lot more than she was bargaining for.

So there may have been this thing called a Neo League that exists. And there may have been a certain wide eyed werewolf that decided to join it for riches and glory, but mostly riches. Surely her ninja training and battle experience would make these battles a cinch to win right? And her first opponent was a regular old human woman? Pffft. Clearly they had underestimated her ability. But...maybe they hadn't. Against all odds (and a series of rather unfortunate events), she not only lost that first match, but she lost it before she even got the chance to really get started. And to make it worse, the thing was televised. So anyone who wanted to see her get body slammed...over...and over..and over again. Could. Easily. With a press of a button.

That was a few days ago now and since then, Azumi has been less about social interaction and more about physical the expense of nearly everything else. She hadn't gotten reckless or anything like that, but she had been pushing her limits more and more often. The few people who had come out near the shrine or the outskirts of the city may have picked up on a some wind disturbances...a few trees that had had their jimmies rustled a little too hard, some spots suspiciously absent of snow, and even some heavy indentations on some rocks nearby.

Today however, the werewolf is sitting within the shrine's center most building, doing some excersize. She's up in the rafters, using them as a make-shift pull up bar, over and over again, going as far as to lift herself up to her shoulders before dropping back down again. She's doing it at a pretty decent rate; those arm muscles already fairly well defined and toned.

Just because there haven't been many people around in the Shrine lately doesn't mean there's no activity. Azumi may have noticed in her bouts of zealous training that a number of bundles of pelts and cloth have been steadily been increasing by the Shrine's inner courtyard. Some of the wrapped up bundles are synthetic in nature, made of cloth and plastic, but the great majority are made of deer leather and pelts. They look rather curious just sitting there piled up and wrapped, certainly not to be sold... rather, it seems someone is intending to move them soon.

Whilst Azumi is doing her pull ups, this is one of the rare instances when she happens to be in the Shrine when Nightwolf is returning. Not surprisingly the person that has been piling up all those things. He walks into the Shrine in his human form, carrying on his shoulder yet another pack of bundle up leather and wooden sticks.

The shaman walks right past the werewolf in training and he doesn't address her until he has set the next batch on the pile. "The fights will get better." He assures her, because as its expected of Nightwolf, he keeps track of everything and apparently watched her fight.

Azumi slows her pull-ups when she notes Nightwolf coming into the shrine. That small interruption is just enough time for her to slip from the rafters, her smooth furry hands not the best at holding onto awkwardly gripped surfaces. She minimizes the fall almost immediately, curling her knees into her torso for backflip, before landing on the ground in a dramatic crouch. She stands herself back up and looks towards the rafters with a mild amount of malice, curling fingers in and out a few times. She turns towards Nightwolf and her ears instantly lower, shaking her head a little bit.

"I think the thing that pisses me off the most is that she got some really lucky hits in. Like, she barely hit me. If that last hit didn't connect, she was really going to be reeling."

She takes a few steps towards him, the karate gi she'd been wearing before seems to be missing it's sleeves, though the cold doesn't seem to bother her too much for fairly obvious reasons.

"So these pelts and stuff are a you thing. What're they for?"

There's a difference between protecting people and coddling them. Nightwolf may have looked uncaring when he did nothing to catch Azumi from her fall. However, as caring as he is, he is aware the Azumi is a ninja and a werewolf and thus not helpless. It would be remiss of him to dishonor her warrior nature by watching her every step to make sure she doesn't hurt. They are all warriors here, not children.

At least so far.

"That will happen." Says the skinwalker after setting the last bundle on the pile and dusting his gloved hands, he's still clad on his wolf pelts due to the cold weather. "No matter how much skill and experience one has gathered over the years, it is impossible to evade attack sent at you. The best you can do is minimize the damage and press on."

He turns to look at Azumi with those ever blank impassive eyes of his, peering under his wolf hood towards the other werewolf. "You will learn quickly what style suits you best. Give it some more time and practice."

The shaman looks over his shoulder when Azumi motions towards the pelts. "Building materials for our soon to come exodus. I don't know how many people we'll be housing so I decided to get as many as I could."

Azumi crosses her arms at that as she weathers more advice about how to deal with her lack of prowess in battle, huffing a sigh for his words. Her brain eventually does figure out a way to turn this around into a semi positive though, looking down at those pelts and then back towards him.

"I guess that's true...but there's only so much one could learn from training with dummies, meditation and the like...and that's a friendly spar. I don't know about you, but one good thing about this curse is some form of natural least I know I got one. So what do you you mind spending a little bit of time testing each other's skill?"

She passes another glance towards his gathered pelts and noticed just how many he had seemed to pick up over this short period. "Though I guess if you have work to do, we could do it later.

As calm and methodical as Nightwolf is, he's always got time in his schedule for a fight.

"Certainly." He says without a second thought and moves to the center of the inner courtyard, a glowing green battle axe appearing on his hand.

The shaman assumes an Okichitaw fighting stance, resting most of his weight on his back leg whilst the is held at the center in a relaxed defensive position. "Whenever you're ready."

Azumi's tail starts wagging. Embarrassing yes, but the prospect of actually fighting here seemed like a good idea. The shrine had likely seen quite a few fights before and this one seemed no different. She comes out a few moments after Nightwolf, shutting the door back to prevent any...accidents from befalling Nightwolf's glorious pelt collection. She leaps from the top stairs all the way down to the courtyard, landing in the snow with a pivot slide to face Nightwolf. She sinks down into a combat stance as well, legs spread apart for stability and her hands at the ready.

"Don't you dare take it easy on me. Come at me like you would any other opponent. Because I'm about to do the same thing to you. "

Azumi starts the battle off by straightening her pose, bringing her hands togther with her pointer and middle fingers extended, with the rest of them nested over one another. She takes a deep breath and begins to concentrate...a small light green whirlwind gathering around her feet. It's enough to push the snow from the immediate area of her person, but isn't anything more than a pleasant breeze at this point. She does keep an eye on Nightwolf though, watching to see what his first move was.

COMBATSYS: Azumi gathers her will.

Kiyomi had heard from a girl who wandered near the shrine that she had seen some wolf looking person in the forest. She must have not meant her, that much Kiyomi is certain. After years of living with humans, she has been good enough to elude them and deceive them... Though it might be someone else.

Assuming her snow white fox form, Kiyomi sets out to explore the forest some more, Nightwolf's territory, attempting to find clues about that person. It eventually pays off though as noises draw the vixen back to the shrine where she stealthly crawls back closer to watch the scene from afar.

Nightwolf is far too used himself to the impulsive nature of a wolf's body to poke any fun at Azumi's tail wagging. He spend most of his time as a wolf himself and knows just how hard it is to control those feelings. However, he does make note of it not and it amuses him that the ninja werewolf is so excited about the prospect of fighting him. That has to be a first for sure.

"I never take it easy." Says the shaman rolling his neck a bit to limber up, his glowing green energy axe being twirled on his hand.

When Azumi begins to gather power within her, the skinwalker's blank eyes narrow slightly and he hmms in thought. "I will tell you this much. The girl you fought had one good advice to follow and that is that you fight too defensively."

Taking advantage of his opponent rooting herself in place, Nightwolf raises his left hand to the air as power begins to crackle around his body.

"HOKA HEY!!" Yells the shaman as a lighting bolt laced with chi flies out of his palm directly towards Azumi's chest.

He has not yet noticed the white fox prowling about the woods.

COMBATSYS: Azumi blocks Nightwolf's Thunder Storm.

Azumi had just gotten to the point where her chi had manifested nicely, but naturally the first attack was always something to collect information on her opponent. Lightning however, wasn not something she dealt with very often, so when the bolt arcs it's way towards her, she drops the chi-charging stance and crosses her arms in a classic 'X-style' block, feeling the lightning course through her system. It certainly stung but it was definitely bearable...for now.

She drops her guard and leans down for a moment before charging directly at Nightwolf, seeming intent on keeping this one rather close range to perhaps negate some of his ranged abilities. She throws a mean-looking right hook, claws extended out for ripping damage. It's also worth noting that said attack seems to have a small whirlwind around it, enhancing it's damage.

"Alright then. Want to bring it into close range? I've got that covered!"

COMBATSYS: Nightwolf reflects Aggressive Strike from Azumi with Shield of the Ancients.

Nightwolf        0/-------/-----==|=======\===----\1            Azumi

It's hard to spot the fox even with its myriad of flailing tails. Its white pelt allowed her to blend into the scenery rather well, not to mention she hardly moves once she settles down near one of the trees to watch the fight with interest. The sly vixen though seems more interested in the furry humanoid than Nightwolf today, paws crossed in front of her as she studies her and gauges her during their clash. Kiyomi is pretty content with being a silent spectator and does not wnat to interrupt their match.

The skinwalker closes one eye and tilts his head to the side when he sees Azumi take the blow head on. It's hard to tell why he's doing that expression, not only because of the blank eyes but also the wolf hood that is covering half of his face. He seems to be confused, or perhaps studying the woman attack him.

However, when Azumi surges into the offensive, it becomes pretty evident that Nightwolf was doing that because he was calculating the distance.

As the ninja werewolf swipes at the shaman's face, Nightwolf brings his free hand up to grab her by the wrist and stop the attack dead in its tracks. A simple defensive technique, except that as soon as the skinwalker grabs the werewolf he seems to /absorb/ the whirlwind enhancing her attacks. Azumi's power is channeled into Nightwolf's tomahawk which begins to have the same whirlwind effect around it and he swipes back at her just as hard, cleaving the side of the werewolf's head with the energy blade and her own whirlwind power to boot.

Well, he certainly doesn't seem to be taking it easy on her.

Nightwolf's white blank eyes glance sideways after the strike noticing that wily white furred vixen watching them from the distance. He says nothing about it for now, eyes returning to focus on the fight at hand.

Azumi definitely lost some whiskers on that one. Not really wanting to catch a tomahawk with her face, she turns her head, leading the axe blade pass next to her face, burning the side of it and cleaving off that entire set of whiskers. That...made things feel a little weird, but it was something to certainly tolerate for the time being. Her eyes widen when her own wind seems to leave it's own burn, the werewolf taking the time to jump back from him out of immediate surprise. Once she realized what he'd done, her resolve hardens, her ears folding downards aggressively and her tail going stiff.

"Oh-ho...that's cute. Noted."

She claps her hands together hard enough for the sound to be jarring, a burst of wind clearing out any snow in a small radius around her and kicking it up into the air. Her whole body now had a light green outline to it, and the small whirlwinds around her arms looking feircer than before.

COMBATSYS: Azumi gains composure.

Nightwolf's lips tighten and he straightens up briefly when Azumi decides to back up and seemingly gather her bearings. He scratches his chin briefly, apparently debating something mentally, until he sees her clap her hands which really causes her entire body to swell with energy. An eyebrow arches when he senses all that power swirling about her and it appears that is what finally makes him take a decision.

The skinwalker is a remarkably silent fighter, not one for mid-fight banter and doesn't comment on Azumi complementing his technique. Instead, he twirls that battle of his again and chucks it at the werewolf, the axe spinning in the air so it lands blade first on the werewolf ninja's shoulder.

Azumi sees the hatchet being ready to be tossed and decides to try something a little more aggressive as opposed to just dodging it or blocking it. She forms a projectile of her own in a hand, a shiruken of decent size. She throws it expertly at the oncoming projectile but the axe is stronger than anticipated, cleaving through the center of the projectile and dissapating it, leaving her to deal with the axe herself. She turns her shoulder towards it, unable to think of a better way to absorb the impact. It hits home, sending a searing pain through the appendage. She grabs the handle of the axe and tosses it aside angrily, looking back towards Nightwolf.

"What are these things made of, lead?"

"Chi." Answers the shaman after Azumi pries the axe out of her shoulder and tosses it aside.

To note, when tossed to the side the axe disappears on the ground only to reappear once again on Nightwolf's hand. He gives it a few twirls before he starts walking directly towards Azumi, closing the distance in a very direct manner.

There are many factors besides Nightwolf's silent nature that prevent him from making many comments about the fight. He will have to wait until this is done to properly give a few pointers on Azumi's technique. Where this more or a training session than a spar, he might stop here and offer a few words of encouragement, but he gave his word to Azumi that he wasn't going to take it easy, and Outworlders wouldn't give her a moment of respite either.

Therefore, he breaks into a run mid walking and throws a left jab at Azumi's snout, axe at the ready seemingly waiting to follow through with another cleave.

COMBATSYS: Nightwolf successfully hits Azumi with High Punch.

Azumi rolls her eyes at his answer, clearly realising what a chi attack looks like. The axe dissappearing from her hand and into his is certainly a bit alarming to say the least, as is his advance towards her. She spots the jab coming in towards her face and raises a hand to block it, but she realizes it's speed too late and catches it on the nose, causing her to reel backwards a step or two.

Glaring at him, she forces her hands towards the ground, firing off twin whirlwinds to propel her away from him and into the sky. Utilizing the same trick again, she pushes herself back down towards the ground, this time with her foot extended to hit him in the face in a fairly typical dive-kick motion.

"You really should stop rolling your eyes at people." Says Nightwolf right after jabbing her on the mouth, because apparently he is not sufficiently silent to forgo absolutely all comments. "It makes you look very childish."

Quickly noticing how she takes into the air all of the sudden, Nightwolf too decides to back up a bit and raises his axe just in time to deflect the dive kick sent to his head. He pushes Azumi away and cranks his axe back, swinging it at her midsection planning to catch her in mid landing.

Azumi pushes off of him when he blocks the dive kick, somersaulting backwards to land on her feet once again. It seems that her sparring partner had caught enough to attack her when she was landing, but she was ready for it. As her feet were touching down she reaches a hand out towards Nightwolf's own, halting the attack from striking her.

"Maybe you should do a better job understanding sarcasm. Of course I know it's made out of chi. It's an expression."

She uses this rare moment that she has the upper hand to bring her right foot up and out, sweeping it forward in a wide and powerful looking round house kick. She follows that up with a flash kick that is accented with a bit of wind, increasing it's potency and leaving her in the air yet again.

Nightwolf        0/-------/----===|>>>>>>>\>>>>>>>\1            Azumi

"I understand sarcasm well enough." Mutters Nightwolf just as his axe swing is stopped. "Most of the time, anyway." He admits after some quick though.

"Its your exasperated expression that you should be wary. Some people might not appreciate it." The shaman is not exactly sure how old is Azumi, though it is better to err on the side of caution and let her know of certain faux pas situation. He wasn't too thrilled when she fangirled all over Ryu Hayabusa the other day, and it is best he stops her now from trying to roll her eyes at Raiden. Its not like the Thunder God would fry her on the spot, but it makes for poor presentation.

Although finally deciding to open his mouth about stuff, that doesn't seem to mean that Nightwolf has left himself open. He quickly brings his foot to the side and kicks Azumi's leg out of the way before her roundhouse connects. This gives him enough room to backdash quickly avoiding the flash kick and the wind that accompanied it all together.

Just as fast as he went out, the shaman dives in again and thrusts his energy axe forward to smash Azumi's face with the upper blunt side of the axe's head.

COMBATSYS: Nightwolf successfully hits Azumi with Tomahawk Smash.

Azumi didn't get much time for a retort as the battle is still whirling on and as with every single battle she's been in so far (count:2) she's losing. And badly. He managed to get out of the way of both of those kicks with ease, which was...surprising to say the least. She lands from the flash kick just in time to catch an axe handle to the face. She's sent flying from the attack, rolling head over heels in a manner that could be considered anything but 'ninja-like'.

Still though, her training is still there, and before she slides too much further, she gathers enough of her senses to push herself back onto her feet but the damage had already been done. Blood seeps out of her nose and from a corner of her mouth and she pants loudly, that last hit being the more powerful one she'd taken so far. Still though, she was down and not out, and she still had plenty of Chi to make a difference with. She raises ahand to wipe the blood away from both areas, keeping her focus on the fight and not wasting anymore time on banter.

Using some of that well stored Chi energy, she crouches down and forces herself at Nightwolf, running with a speed she hadn't used before. Once in immedate melee range, she starts throwing a flurry of wide slashes with her claws, all aimed at his mid-section. She follows that up with two uppercuts, the second one greater than the first. If those all connected like they should, they should both be airborne now, which the werewolf capitalizes on by biting Nightwolf's shoulder and driving them both towards the ground.

The fox winces a bit as she observes silently. This seemed rather painful -- either Azumi was out of luck, or Nightwolf's training gave him an advantage over her. The cunning vixen hums softly and moistens her lips. Time to make things a little more interesting and try to give Azumi an unseen help.

The vixen's tail flails behind her as she focuses her mind on Nightwolf, using her psychic powers to try and mess with Nightwolf's senses, making his vision more sluggish, making him see Ayumi act a second or so before she would, or a second later or so, to help her overcome Nightwolf's defenses and reflexes.

Nightwolf pauses briefly when he sees Azumi roll on the ground after taking that hard hit. He rubs his chin in thought thinking what could possibly be wrong. Its true that Nightwolf has been a Demon Hunter for quite some time but he shouldn't be besting the werewolf ninja this badly. Perhaps there is something that Azumi is not telling him, or perhaps her werewolf affliction is hindering her skills a lot more than she thinks. It is entirely possible that with all the Outworlders he's been fighting lately, Nightwolf has gotten better without realizing it.

All thoughts that need to be pushed aside though, since Azumi looks pissed now and is coming on him with the frenzied fury of a true wolf. Nightwolf digs his heels in, bracing himself for the attack--

When all of the sudden everything goes blurry!

"What the--" The shaman reels back in confusion, he shakes his head, backpedalling as he realizes the sudden imminent danger he's in. No time to call for a time out and even if there were chances are Azumi is not going to stop mid attack after getting hit like that. "Kiyomi!! You insolent fox!!" He yells out seemingly at random, figuring out that this is all that white pelted fox's doing since he's been in the receiving end of such illusion magic before.

Normally, this is when its all over for a Hunter. Got trapped by two darkstalkers and its a quick, brutal end after that.

But Nightwolf is no mere Demon Hunter, he's a Sin Eater, and is just as likely to tap into frenzied berserker spirits as the Darkstalkers and Outworlders he fights.

This spar suddenly got a /bit/ real. Nightwolf's visage grows almost bestial in nature, eyes glow and canines elongate fiercely before he recklessly dives into the attack. He takes the bestial swipes right on his torso and looks to be completely ignoring the damage, muscling his way inside Azumi's guard to grab her by the neck with two hands and hoist her up in the air.

"I BANISH YOU, DEMON!!!" He screams out seemingly completely consumed in rage. White energy surges from inside his body and explodes outward into Azumi with incinerating holy chi.

COMBATSYS: Azumi can no longer fight.

[       \\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\  < >  //////////////////////////////]
Nightwolf        0/-------/-------|======-\-------\0           Kiyomi

You know, in hindsight, perhaps the beginning of this fight should have been prefaced with 'maybe take it a little easy, I mean, you know, I'm still getting used to fighting this way and I'd rather not die or anything, because goodness, wouldn't that be terribly tragic? Right? Yeah, I thought so.' Instead...that hadn't quite happened but it was looking incredibly grim besides.

Azumi was giving each one of those slashes her absolute everything she had, knowing that if this failed, she'd for certain lose, as she was just about out of energy and stamina. But...usually when she did this, people would reel in pain...or block..or dodge. This was the first time she'd fought anything that his way through her attacks like that, seemingly not caring about his own personal safety. She doesn't even get all the way through the manuver before she's grabbed by the throat and lifted up into the air. It's only then when the mention of the word 'Kiyomi' enters her subconscious, it being a word she'd never heard of before...or knew nothing of, in a sense. That one weird girl she met the other day left her a message about it, but she had no idea what that meant to be honest.

She raises her hands to her throat to perhaps pry him off of it, since this was certainly moving from friendly brawl to actual life threatening fight for survival. She whines at him loudly, her body thrashing in his hands as she tries in vain to kick him in the face or do much of anything to get him to loosen his grip. The remark about the demon certainly gets her worried, as anyone could plainly see that she was clearly not what he just said.

The wave of energy passes over her and burns with an intensity she certainly wasn't prepared for, setting her on fire with such intensity and pain that she passes out on the spot with a howl of pure anguish. The cry rings loudly, almost ear-shatteringly so throughout the shrine; anyone in the immediate area knew something bad just happened. When the holy chi leaves his body, she dangles from his hands limply, the battle definitively over and the furry woman only capable of labored breathing, mostly because she was still being choked out.

Nightwolf himself doesn't stop roaring until every drop of chi leaves his body and goes through Azumi. His battle cry sounding remarkably similar to that of a howling wolf, though with evident hints of a man roaring along with it.

He keeps that grip on the werewolf's neck tight like a vice, all the way until Azumi's completely limp and the blindingly white light fades. It's only then that his white blank eyes seem to focus again and he gasps in horror realizing what he's done.

"Azumi!" He cries out, lowering the werewolf down on the ground and fanning her face. "Azumi, wake up! Do not succumb to the pain! Do you hear me!?" He looks about with a scowl. "Kiyomi! Come out here and fix your mischief!" Yes, he's blaming this all on the fox woman by the way.

Unfortunately, it seems that Nightwolf has been able to see through Kiyomi's ruse. The vixen has a weird sort of coughing fit, like a laughter. Her tails flail idly behind her, but that laughter soon fades away when she notices just how Nightwolf reacts to her little interference meant to give Azumi a hand.

His harsh words used on Azumi makes her growl in offense and the fox slowly withdraws behind the trees and the scenery, fading into the background like she has just a mirage.

"Get your hands off her," Kiyomi shouts with a glare -- the woman finally appears, no longer in her vukpine form, a human wearing a kimono, yet with the tails still apparent behind her. She rushes over Nightwolf and Azumi, "Do not blame me, you're the one who attacked her like this! What were you thinking!?" She says. She rushes over to Ayumi's side, kneeling down. She cups Azumi's cheek and head, attempting to assess her condition.

"What was I thinking!? What were /you/ thinking!?" Is Nightwolf's less that eloquent retort when Kiyomi scolds him. Honestly, how was he supposed to react when he was suddenly blinded with an enraged werewolf charging him? Just laying there and taking it? The skinwalker at the very least does as he told and moves away from Azumi, hoping that Kiyomi knows a bit more of medicine that he does. "Let's get her inside and quickly. The cold will not help her."

Azumi, after an attack like that, is lucky to still be in the land of the living. If that attack lasted a few seconds longer and she would have very easily left this mortal world behind. She doesn't respond much to any kind of stimulation, being about as limp as a living body could be, her eyes still closed. Fortunately she's still breathing alright, but judging by the amount of burns she'd sustained, plus previous battle damage, she wasn't getting up anytime soon. The bleeding from earlier had stopped, the holy chi having a pleasant secondary side effect of sautering that stuff closed. Her front-side took the majority of the chi damage, burning a good chunk of her fur and ripping and burning her gi, turning it from a basic white to a well toasted brown.

Kiyomi lifts her gaze up and she gives an eloquent glare at Nightwolf. She says nothing else, but the glare said all it had to say about her disapproval. "Yes," Kiyomi says with a nod, "She should be alright... But she'll need sometime," Kiyomi straightens herself up and says, "Bring her inside, I'll prepare some warm water... And balm for her burns," Kiyomi says, heaving a soft sigh. She folds her arms in front of her chest, giving Nightwolf one last glance, frowning, before she walks up into the shrine to start a small fire, both for heat and to prepare her concoctions.

Nightwolf frowns right back! His equal disapproval at Kiyomi interfering with the spar perfectly clear. Fortunately he is reasonable enough to understand the meaning of priorities and he refrains from giving the vixen further pieces of his mind to instead help carry Azumi. The shaman slides his arms under her and quickly lifts the werewolf bridal style, carrying her inside the Shrine following Kiyomi.

Azumi is..actually pretty petite for her kind. Probably due to all of that training and everything. She's still stupidly unconscious for the time being tho.
