Tiffany - Just An Ordinary Girl

Description: An ordinary girl interrupts Tiffany's perfectly ordinary cheerleading practice with perfectly ordinary kunai.

TXT to Sarai-Babe: Western cheerleaders are so incredibly good! With their talent I bet they get all the cute guys!

While she was supposed to be doing her homework before her evening training session, the allure of watching actual Western cheerleaders at Pacific 'do their thing!' was enough to bring her all the way here. However, instead of sitting on the gym bleachers like a normal person, Ibuki had her own personal quirks as a result of her dual life. This included her sitting on the metal rafters where two crossbeams met, legs dangling off and idly moving in rhythm with the beat of the practice. Her hands worked furiously at the keys of the phone, typing out texts to her best friend and sole confidante on the nature of her dual life.

Suddenly her legs grow still, and she exhales out a long-suffering sigh, as she quickly types out. TXT to Sarai-Babe: TXT you back soon. Gotta ninja ninja the creep who thinks I'm an amateur.

At the same moment her text ends, a wrapped hand, ending in the sleeve of a black dogi tries to grip her around the mouth to muffle any scream. Instead all he catches is air, as the teenager in her baggy tan dogi appears right behind him, balancing on a rafter in one leg, the bottom half of her face covered by a mask. "Loser! You're actually wearing black! What clan seriously does that anymore!?"

There's commotion up in the rafters for all of nineteen seconds, before the figure all in black takes the long plunge to the gym floor, with a bandage wrapped foot planted in his back. Just before he lands, she flips off gracefully, landing balanced on one foot. "Yatta! That'll teach you!" Her ambusher raises himself up on trembling arms, before dropping a smoke bomb. In a haze of smoke, he vanishes, leaving just the kunoichi before the cheerleaders. "Uh..." There's an awkward silence, as the girl faces the group of cheerleaders, before she pumps a fist in the air expressively, "...Go Pacific High!?!" Her other hand trails up to the nape of her neck, rubbing it in embarrassment.

The Gorin school festival -- or at least Tiffany's participation in it -- has come and gone, and she seems content with the amount of shaved ice and other Gorin sports-themed treats she's managed to shove into her face. Unfortunately, these sorts of things come at a price -- a caloric price.

As nominally the head of Pacific's cheer team, thus, she has decided to turn lemons into lemonade, and call a special practice session for the Pacific High cheer team. Taking up a position across from the rest of the cheer squad, Tiffany takes a few deep breaths and starts stretching out before starting her routine.

Unfortunately, her opportunity to actually cheer gets cut tragically short, as a ninja comes flying straight down from the rafters, then disappears very abruptly. And here she thought she'd gotten answers as to why on Earth any of this strangeness was happening at the festival -- now there's ninjas!?

The blonde turns her gaze toward Ibuki as the girl frantically attempts to justify her presence -- and needless to say, Tiffany is having precisely none of it. "Are you KIDDING?" she asks, incredulous. "What's the big idea?! Why are there ninjas?!" Her hands ball up into fists in short order, and she musters the biggest, baddest frown she can manage. It's acutely obvious that she's ready for a fight.

Ibuki is suddenly face to face with the head cheerleader, and it's obvious from the way she carries herself that she can handle herself in a fight. Part of ninja training was controlling the situation, picking out who could actually be a threat, and who couldn't be, and this girl was a serious one. Moreso than the budget shinobi by a long shot. So suddenly she's on the defensive, putting both her palms out in a gesture, "I know this looks bad!" 'Why are there ninjas?!' "Very bad. Really I do!" She takes a step backwards.

What was the right thing to say here? 'Would you believe me if I told you there's always ninjas?' That would probably get her in trouble on so many different levels.

'I'm the mysterious ninja avenger! I just totally stopped that guy from interrupting your practice! Hey, do you know any cute guys?' Definitely not, they wouldn't fall for that.

Suddenly her shoulders slump in defeat. Either she'd look terrible, or she'd break the iron code of the shinobi. "I can't really tell you." A beat pause, "But would you believe me if I told you that you're all great? I was watching your practice, and you've all got /it/!" Whatever /it/ was.

'I can't really tell you' -- this is the second time that Tiffany's heard that inside a couple weeks, and it's starting to get really, /really/ stale. Taking a deep breath, she rolls her shoulders a little bit and starts stepping forward. No time for gloves -- she doesn't really need them, anyway; she's perfectly content to go bare-knuckled if the situation requests it, and a ninja... well... that definitely qualifies.

"What do you mean, you can't tell us? First you spy on us, then you get all weird about it..." Tiffany's lips curl down into a pretty impressive frown. At the very least, she's already warmed up, which means... no point in delaying.

Her legs tense up; Ibuki can probably see her gearing up to move before Tiffany herself knows what her game plan is consciously, no doubt. She's got the moves of a fighter, though -- confident, assured. "HERE WE GO!" she says, in her characteristic loud, forceful English.

"I think you know something!" Tiffany announces, as she springs into the air; her body twists in the sky, shifting her momentum from up to down in a split second, her feet streaking for Ibuki. "What's with the football club at Taiyo?! Why is everyone getting all weird?!" she asks, as she shoots down through the air like a bullet.

That boisterous, clarion call to battle from the cheerleader startles Ibuki, but she's quickly thrown back into her state of calm from the nature of her training. Squaring her stance, she raises her arms to ready herself from the incoming, springing attack. The impact is jarring, striking her forearm hard, as she twists to shift the momentum. She takes a few steps backwards into a tactical retreat as she falls into the rhythm of battle. "What I mean is that ways of the ninja are secret! I don't make the rules! That's just the way it is!"

Wait, did she say Taiyo? Did this girl really know where she went to school? For a moment, Ibuki falls out of her stance to think over a proper response, "I don't know anything about that team of incredibly cute guys!" That sounded better in her head than when she voices it aloud. If she weren't in a battle she'd be face palming beneath her long bangs.

"Oh whatever! I really like your uniform by the way!" Leaping into the air with incredible speed, she tries to stomp both feet down upon the cheerleader's shoulders, using her as a springboard to carry her away from her in a graceful aerial maneuver. "Do we have to do this? I'd really hate to ruin it!"

Hilariously, the football club at Taiyo is at the top of her mind for a /completely/ unrelated reason; she's just sort of shouting words in the order they occur to her as relevant to 'weird things.' This in turn means that Ibuki's defense, such as it is, only makes her more suspicious; she's awful eager to indicate that the football team is totally fine (in every sense of the word).

Ducking low and then /rolling/, Tiffany evades those stomping feet; it's a close shave, but one that prompts a short sigh of relief. Getting out of the way that quickly, though, has compromised her position a little bit... she'll need to go /extra/ hard to compensate.

But first -- a moment to breathe. Hanging back from Ibuki, Tiffany takes stock of her surroundings as best she can while responding to Ibuki. "THANKS!" she starts, absently wrapping a finger around a few strands of stray hair. "No deal, though -- sounds like you're just gonna have to be careful if you want to keep it lookin' nice!"

There's a beat, before she appends, "Oh, and HEY! ... your uniform's kinda cute, too."

Ibuki's feet meet nothing but lacquered wood, and again Tiffany proves her evaluation correct. Her admiration of cheerleaders only seems to grow by the second, as she makes her evasive spring and actually claps her hands twice. "Ha! I knew cheerleaders were not to be trifled with! Wait... did I just say 'trifled'? I really do sound like an evil ninja!"

This epiphany does give her momentary pause, but not enough to make it look like she's disengaging from the battle. The exchange of compliments clears her head. Contrary to popular belief, banter didn't actually distract her, if anything it made her more focused. Especially when it was on subjects that interested her like this. "You really think so? It's not bad, but I really wish I could make it more stylish! The elders just have no sense for what a girl needs!"

'Practicality' wasn't big on her list of priorities. Now more wary, her stance flows from one side to the other, shifting to keep her unpredictable while she gathers her ki. She feints with a kick to the left, before her right moves upwards in a whirlwind kick that blurs with azure streamers of ki energy as she strikes repeatedly, one after the other

"Yeah, 'sound like' --" comes Tiffany's initial shot back, before Ibuki comes in with that feint kick and subsequent /actual/ set of kicks. She tries to dive away, but eats it squarely on the chin; her body cries out in agony, and she realizes very quickly that she's dealing with someone /good/.

Bringing her hand up to her mouth, she gnaws at the lowest knuckle of her thumb for a moment -- just as a distraction, just to get the pain from those kicks out of her head. She only takes a few seconds to do that, though; it's not worth it to give Ibuki even /more/ time to set her up.

Taking a few steps forward, Tiffany purses her lips a little. Reaching out toward Ibuki, she notes, "Try better pants? Bicycle shorts are ALWAYS IN!" before reaching out for Ibuki's face. If she catches her, she'll pull her forcefully in toward her chest for a few moments... then push her whole body up and forward, launching Ibuki into the air and buying herself /plenty/ of time to think about her moves.

Once she falls back into her guarded stance, Ibuki finally has time to respond to that, while the head cheerleader supreme is reeling. "I'm not, really! I'm one of the good ones!" She even puts out a thumb's up to her, taking a moment to dramatically pose, though her open mouthed smile doesn't exactly show since her mouth is covered.

Tiffany's charge in that moment takes her off guard, and she's either a hair too slow, or Tiffany is just a step ahead of her. As she's grabbed around the head and pulled in, before being thrown outwards. Ibuki finds herself sailing through the air, and not with the greatest of ease. She lands hard, twisting just at the last moment to ensure she doesn't stay down. She quickly tries to rise, using a hand stand flip that brings her back to combat readiness, she's wine red from the tips of her ears to her nose. "You wouldn't believe it if I told you how many of those I have! I think I'm sick of them!" After all, there's only so much she can wear under a uniform skirt that makes it easy for her to quickly change into her dogi.

Despite the casual nature of the conversation, her pride is now at stake, she took enough blows from her instructors to take another from an outsider. Suddenly charging forward so quickly that she's a blur of movement, she tries to make a quick grasp for Tiffany by the abdomen of her practice uniform, shifting her weight to roll her over her shoulder and drive her into the floor.

The idea that there are good ninja is anathema to Tiffany; it's not that she's entirely predisposed against them /herself/, but Roy's been her primary cultural guide, and he has indicated that most of the uniquely Japanese things that exist are evil, or at least bad. Brow furrowed as Ibuki shoots back about bicycle shorts, Tiffany leaves herself totally open to that toss; her body flies over that shoulder with ease, and the tall American cheerleader lands like a ton of bricks.

Thoroughly outpaced by the ninja, Tiffany wonders, for an instant, what she should do get herself back on track against the evil* ninja* girl. Her fists clench hard enough to whiten the knuckles, and she takes a few quick steps to the side just to get herself a different angle.

Rearing back, Tiffany starts pinwheeling her arms, murmuring, "Guru, guru..." as her fist starts to build up sparkles After a couple, she adds, "How can you be sick of bicycle shorts!? You REALLY ARE an evil ninja!" After returning to a couple more "guru"s, Tiffany swings a fist forward at Ibuki at top speed, hoping to send her flying with a big, sparkly fist.

The completely thoroughly not evil ninja tries to defend her statement in short order. "Because I have to wear them almost every day!" She doesn't tell her 'at school' because she doesn't particularly want Tiffany to know she goes to normal school, instead of just 'ninja school' or 'training camp' or 'completely boring and arduous summer camp.' "I'd like something that..." Tiffany's sudden charge cuts off Ibuki's statement, and suddenly there's a kunai in her hand! She turns it to the side, hoping to blunt the blow, and nearly has it jarred out completely from her hand by the dazzlingly fast and hard punch. The sheer force of it rocks her back on her heels, though it doesn't send her flying. Taking a step back, she massages her forearm with the other hand, "...that's different from my norm! Something completely glam!" The glam is in English, in her attempt at American slang.

The sparkles hang in the air for a time, causing spots in her vision. The kunai vanishes up one of her sleeves into a hidden leather thong. "Are you a Mahou Shoujo? Because if they actually existed, you'd be a candidate for sure! Not that you'd be fighting me if you were because I'm..." Ibuki wasn't about to be shown up by sparkly punches, even if they were completely rad.

In a blur of movement, Ibuki tries to rush forward in an attempt to grab her arm, pulling her in towards her. This looks like a risky gamble until you see her fist, glowing with blue ki energy. "NOT!" Even if she misses the grab, she opens her clenched fist, attempting a hard palm strike that causes a burst of ki energy right at her belly. "EVIL!"

Ducking low, Tiffany takes a deep breath, stealing herself for that oncoming maneuver. Her hands dip low, and she reaches out, trying to flip Ibuki through the arm-grab... but she miscalculates, and just puts her hand directly into Ibuki's waiting hand. The other hand comes in next, catching Tiffany entirely off guard; her eyes widen as she sees the energy accumulating, and promptly shoots straight back at the wall. Mercifully, the indoor gym's walls are padded in some spots.

All this really means, though, is that Ibuki doesn't concuss Tiffany the way that Makoto did not too long ago. She slides down the wall, saying, "I... no, I'm just a cheerleader," dizzily. She then takes a second to plant her face directly into the ground.

At the very least, she recovers quickly; within moments, she's in a handstand, and then right back on her feet! She's still dizzy, though -- if Ibuki wants to close this out, now might indeed be the time...

If her timing had been off by even a moment, then that titanic blow might have sent the young kunoichi flying. Her breath catches as she just barely avoids it. When Tiffany is sent careening across the gym into the wall, she winces, releasing that breath in what might sound like a sigh of relief. "Just a cheerleader?" Ibuki shakes her head, "You make it sound so negative, like being an incredible cheerleader is all there is to you! You're a pretty fantastic and stylish fighter too, and I bet that's not the only thing that makes you you. If I thought you'd be interested I'd be recommending you to the elders for training!" She's glad that Tiffany likely isn't though because, she would really hate to take such a great cheerleader away from this life to another where she would barely have time for such things.

Ibuki suddenly looks to the left at all the gathered cheerleaders. "Uh..." She then looks back at Tiffany in her vulnerable position, "...look, I know what sort of commitment is required for something important to you, so I'm not going to do anything that would take you out for long."

Springing backwards, the world feels like it's in slow motion to Ibuki due to her incredible reflexes, tucking in her legs, she brings out Kunai two at a time. "Ninjittsuuuuu..." She then starts flinging them with her wrists in a manner that will put spin on them, and out of respect attempts to strike Tiffany with the blunt ends of the handles falling back on her nigh perfect aim and timing. "...Kasumi Suzaku!" Her feet touch the ground just as the fourth pair is released.

On the one hand, Tiffany is /quite/ happy to hear all these wonderful things about herself with no actual prompting on her part -- and indeed, she can draw on that admiration for a little bit of extra strength. Indeed, she gives Ibuki a brief, "I never said it was a bad thing! I'm just not a weird ninja!!"

On the other hand... this is getting kind of weird!! Why is the ninja who was creeping on her practice saying all these nice things to her? This lends it a little bit of a surreal cast, in a way that she can't really... explain. Japan is a weird country.

As she gets herself back into position, Tiffany sees those kunai incoming; almost immediately, she's on her guard, arms up and hopping back. She manages to hop neatly over the first set of kunai, then slide under the remaining thrown weapons, breathing a momentary sigh of relief as Ibuki's feet touch the ground and the set seems to be exhausted.

Wasting zero time in capitalizing on her split-second opportunity, Tiffany pops right up with a forceful strike. Whirling around and swinging her fist up toward Ibuki's mouth in a nasty, high-speed sparkling back knuckle, she says, "Oh! Well, uh... THANK YOU!"

Ibuki watches Tiffany's evasive dance to dodge her thrown kunai, and she is genuinely impressed by what she sees, "Hey that was really good! You really do have ninja reflexes!" A beat, "Wait, did you just call me weird!?" She deflates suddenly at the hit to her confidence, having all the insecurities of an adolescent girl, the image of all sorts of people, her classmates, potential boyfriends, all considering her /weird/. The sudden blow to her pride, the drive to prove she is not in fact /weird/ is probably what saves her next.

As Tiffany moves in to try to land the powerful back knuckle, Ibuki moves so quickly that only the after image is left of her blow. The effort for such movement is in fact incredible, but it was necessary to avoid such a devastating hit as she ends up in a crouching position nearby her opponent.

Channeling her ki into her left foot, she suddenly attempts a rising kick towards her opponent's chest that will bring Ibuki up and off the floor and if it connects, possibly Tiffany with her. "You're welcome!" There's only a touch of sarcasm in it, due to her annoyance from being called weird, really! People should think ninjas are cool!

At this point, Ibuki has pretty well run circles around Tiffany; when she comes in with that high-speed rising kick, Tiffany throws up her arms, but it's too late. She eats the rising kick on the jaw, collected by it and coming up with her. or a second, she thinks she feels a tooth chip itself -- but no, it's just the sound of foot meeting jawbone.

It's still not great, and when she hits the ground, she concludes that she hates it. For a moment, she just lies there, trying to figure out how to even /begin/ aggressing into the ninja. It's clear that Ibuki has experience on her, and it's clear that Ibuki has /talent/ on her, too... but at the very least, Tiffany might be able to beat her on sheer heart.

Wasting no time, Tiffany's on the offense before she even gets up. Like before, she rises with a spinning backfist; this time, though, she follows it up with three /more/, committing entirely to her offense. Hopefully, she can rattle Ibuki enough to get that big hit she's been looking for... and a little time to answer her, beyond a quick, "YEAH! You're kinda weird!!"

COMBATSYS: Ibuki endures Tiffany's Groovy Special.

"It's weird when you keep saying all this nice stuff about the person you're fighting!" Tiffany explains, her arm pinwheeling like before, building up sparkle after sparkle after sparkle with each successive whirl. She throws that last, mighty punch...!

Ibuki's ninja training allows her to stay calm in most scenarios. It's all about control. Controlling the environment, controlling yourself. Even if you outwardly seem upset, you're not really. You're using that to throw the opponent off her game. As foot meets jaw, she exults in the minor victory. However Tiffany, may in fact be able to beat her on sheer heart.

Ibuki however, tries to show that she has a little heart too. Even if she can be a tad lackadaisical in regards to her training at times, she shows her resolve here as the blows hammer into her one after another. The first she rolls her shoulder into, and the jarring impact carries her off-balance, the next one almost drives her to the mat, as her head rocks from the pressure of the blow. The third hits her straight in the gut, knocking the wind out of her, and she takes a step backwards, holding her solar plexus, trying to exhibit some self control and not lose the remains of her lunch on the ground.

The final mighty, sparkling punch almost sends her flying, the strike to the jaw almost causing her to swoon as she staggers, falling to the floor. But she never strikes it with her body. A single finger touches down on the ground, holding her up, while she balances on one foot. She remains in that pose for a moment or three, her chest heaving like a bellows, before she springs back upright. Her words rasps out brokenly, "A-Alright then."

It takes her time to recompose herself back into a battle ready stance. "You want to believe I'm up to no good. Fair enough. Like I'm playing head games as an evil ninja should."

In one sudden motion, Ibuki casts down three Kunai at different sides of Tiffany's feet, like she's throwing down some gauntlet instead of actually trying to pin her in place. It's purpose though, is to keep her eyes off the real attack, like a Magician's best trick. Dropping low, Ibuki rushes forward, a blur of azure light which casts multiple after images of her. With her ki enhanced speed she tries to drive through Tiffany from one side with an elbow strike. Mere moments after the blow connects, she's already rushing her from the side, repeating the motion. Then at the back. If successful, it'll feel like they landed almost simultaneously. "I'll show you just how weird I can be!"

Tiffany is good -- /very/ good -- but Ibuki is on a whole other level from the cheerleader, putting her to shame with sheer speed, agility, and strength. When she sees Ibuki throw the kunai, sure enough, her gaze is caught -- and then that elbow comes, leaving her infinitely vulnerable to its twin. Her body quakes with the sheer force of the strike...

... and she finds she doesn't really have it in her to throw anything back at the ninja. On the other hand... it also leaves her with the acute knowledge that if Ibuki had /wanted/ to, that hit to the back could've been fatal; if she'd given her a kunai instead of an elbow, and she definitely /could/ have, the situation would be a lot different.

Crumpling to the ground, Tiffany Lords lies there as the world spins. It's distinctly not groovy. Breathing slowly out, she murmurs, "... okay, so, maybe you're not an /evil/ ninja..." quietly. Still a /weird/ ninja, though, she mentally appends as she looks up at her. "Not gonna... tell me YOUR THING?" she adds, half-hopeful but pretty severely doubting, as she lies on the floor of the gym.

Maybe she could have, but maybe not too. Tiffany is an exceptional fighter after all. And the added motion of her forearm from a kunai strike might have telegraphed the attack enough for her to block, or dodge it altogether, or simply to clothesline her mid-air. There are all sorts of variables Ibuki has to consider when delivering an attack like that. Fortunately, it finishes, and Tiffany is on the ground.

Ibuki places her hands on her knees, breathing hard. All it would take at this point is a single attack of oppurtunity from anyone in the crowd and she might have crumpled herself. However all of them seem too stunned from the display by the two fighters to do anything more than murmur amongst themselves. Eventually she straightens, and starts to gather her throwing weapons, trying to leave as little evidence of her passing as possible. The question though strikes her out of nowhere. "My thing?"

She grins despite herself, even if noone will see it, though the very act hurts from the blows she took to her jaw. Spinning around with a dramatic flourish, she puts a hand to her hip and makes a V for victory with two fingers with her others. "I'm just an ordinary girl, you know!" It seems absurd that the highly trained ninja would make this declaration. She tries not to let everyone see how wobbly her legs look, though as she moves out of the pose, she actually leans over and offers Tiffany a hand to get up. "That's my thing. I wish I could say more, but I just can't." She considers something for a moment, "You know I never caught your name, but I won't ask for it if you don't want to give it, because I realize it's unfair that I can't do the same."

For a moment, Tiffany's daze looks incredulous; then she remembers she's in Japan, which seems increasingly to be the land /of/ weirdness, and she admits, "... normal girl, huh? OKAY." She rolls over onto her side, allowing herself to grab at that hand weakly. Slowly pulling herself up to her feet, she says, "... My name..."

Ibuki can't give hers -- but Tiffany, somehow, feels like she should do the courtesy. What's the worst that could happen? The idea that it could lead to a conclusion of 'killed in the night by ninjas' doesn't even register, and she says, firmly, "Tiffany Lords!"

Bringing a hand up to her head, she starts heading for the bleachers, hoping to take a second. She /assumes/, blithely, that Ibuki's going to follow her... but it wouldn't surprise her if she turned around and Ibuki had Batmanned away from her, either. You never know with ninjas!

She pulls Tiffany up to a standing position, before releasing the grip. The very idea of getting revenge on Tiffany not even registering. Even if Ibuki weren't as good-natured as she is, her master isn't the sort of fellow who would have a cheerleader assassinated for slighting his clan. That's not to say she can't kill, or she wouldn't. She's entirely capable of that for the sake of her clan. They just didn't have the same tendency towards ruthlessness that many ninja did even if they weren't exactly honorable either.

"Nice to meet you Tiffany-chan!" The familiarity just rings true to her, because isn't it said that fighting someone is one of the best ways to get to know them? Well... maybe. That concept probably doesn't apply towards everyone. "I'll be back to watch your practice again some time, don't mind me when I do! I just really like cheerleading!" The possibility of cute boys watching cheerleading practice too was definitely a bonus too!

That comment might spur an angry rebuttal, so she beats feet, ninja style. When Tiffany turns around, she might notice one of the upper tier windows of the gym slamming shut and a glimpse of a tan dogi.

Waiting for Ibuki on her phone was a flurry of worried texts when Ibuki hadn't checked in for a long time, but Ibuki sends a reply right away. TXT to Sarai-babe: OMG Sarai that was so great, the cheerleaders at Pacific High are even cooler than I thought! Let me tell you everything!

COMBATSYS: Ibuki has ended the fight here.
