Normals

Normals are a type of generic attack on MotM. Everyone has a set of normals, though which set they have depends on a few factors, the primary one being fighting style. This file will explain the nature of normals, along with a few other nuances of our combat system.

Normals here are just like normals in actual fighting games. Just as pressing a button in the games will yield a generic kick or punch, using a normal is pretty much like that.

The major defining traits of normals are that they all have the Free effect; typically they cost no Reserve to use. In fact, normals grant you a small Reserve bonus on use. They also have fewer points assigned between Speed and Level than a Special attack does; that is, a Special attack is better than a normal in terms of performance, but Specials use Reserve, so you can't do them indefinitely. There are, however, some exceptions, such as dual-type attacks and projectiles, so it is a good idea to check your normal costs, in case you might have one that does cost a small amount of reserve. A few characters in fighting games don't exactly use generic normals. Boxing characters like M.Bison, for instance, do not use kicks at all, and instead punch no matter what attack button you use. Certain kickboxing/Capoeira characters such as Elena -only- use kicks and no punches. Some don't fight bare-handed, but instead use weapons. So on and so forth.

To accomodate these different styles, MotM provides characters with specialized normal sets. While most use the standard "Brawler" normals -- a varied selection of punches, kicks, and throws -- players can opt to use a more specialized set instead.

Note: While most specialized sets do not require an ability, there are two that do: Imbued-Chi and Imbued-Psi. See imbued for more details on these.

Normals refund reserve according to the following general rules:

   Imbued = +1 (can vary depending on how min-maxed stats are)

   Imbued with Vigor = +3 (can vary depending on how min-maxed stats are)

   Non-imbued = +4

   Non-imbued with Vigor = +5
