One of the most talented fighters on the planet, the young man known only as Ryu was vaulted out of anonymity and into history when the formerly unknown warrior defeated Sagat to become the champion of the World Warrior tournament. An extremely gifted Ansatsuken fighter, Ryu trained under his master, Gouken, in seclusion in the wilderness of Japan alongside his best friend, Ken Masters. Following his master's murder, Ryu sought out his killer -- Akuma. Defeated by Akuma and left to mull over the knowledge of the 'Killing Intent' that lurks within him, he currently wanders the world seeking self-improvement, hunting for answers to the questions presented to him. A quiet and serious, but nonetheless warm-hearted young man with an strong sense of honesty and justice, Ryu's powerful techniques are weakened by only one obstacle--his refusal to use them to kill, as he was taught by his master.
