Kokan was a member of the Koga-Ryu shinobi of Japan, of the Fujita clan. Always far too clever and ambitious to master the business aspects of his family's way, his placement as the elder sibling nonetheless guaranteed focus from his mentors in his training, allowing him to develop into a skilled mercenary. His only flaw was his lack of monetary sense when it came to his trade, never being told the secret that the financial contract aspect of ninjutsu was purely for his clan's stability against a coup. When he finally crossed the line and went on a rogue mission, merely for pleasure (he termed it 'practice'), he was hunted by his clan nearly to the ground, and found himself in prison in China. Broken by the Maoist labor system, he was released into the slums of Shanghai, joining the Triads and rebuilding himself slowly, from a philosophical system that worked merely because he wanted it to. Kokan continues to trouble the world, as a thrill seeking assassin and saboteur, his accomplishments meant for challenge, not for ambition. That is the one lesson he has learned from his art, and ignored from his origin.

Kokan and Fumiyo demonstrate the drawbacks of angering the ninjas of the world, as they descend with stealth and subterfuge at a great dinner.
