Description: The Neo Development Project hosts a fight in an area frequented by Julia Chang. Her opponent, the enigmatic thief Kazue Yamada. Will Julia achieve a natural victory, or will Kazue steal the win from Julia? (WINNER: Julia)
It's early evening, and the sky is cast in dark oranges and purples. A few feathery clouds drift through the skies above, but they're mostly clear. Camera crews have set up, and are talking amongst themselves as they hang out near their equipment.
Kazue sits on top of a stone pillar. She arrived here before the cameras did, and once they did, she stopped playing around on the pillars. Unfortunately, they arrived at an awkward moment, and she's hardly going to admit she wasn't trying to be up here, so she just sits there, waiting for her opponent. Her face has the stoic mold of someone deeply uncomfortable with the whole situation, but who is hardly going to admit that.
This area is very familiar to Julia Chang. As a Native American young woman, she is familiar with these parts and has been through here many times. Unfortunately, her visits have not always been for pleasure purposes. Her native homeland is dying and Julia is trying to do the best she can to restore it, although her task is very slow and full of obstacles. She has sought to travel the world to find other ecosystems and see if what they have there could be used in her homeland. At the same time, she is constantly looking out against corporations which may contribute to environmental decay.
All the while, she still continues to train herself, having learned the style of Xing Yi Quan from her mother, but still having a lot to learn, she trains whenever she can using whatever means available. And the Neo Development Project is one of those means that Julia has chosen, with the location very coincidental since she likes to go exploring in this place.
"Spirits, give me strength," Julia says to herself as she enters the area, focusing on the pendant her mother gave her a long time ago. Then she looks around for her opponent, wondering who her opponent is before spying her on top of the pillar. "Is there a reason why you're up there?" Julia asks while raising an eyebrow in confusion. "I'd prefer to be fighting down here."

Kazue stares down at Julia impassively, then gives a slight shrug. "As you wish." She scootches herself up, and hangs from her hands, then scrambles awkwardly down the side of the pillar to slow her fall, stutter-steps away from it, and lands in a roll, covering her clothes with sand. She rolls up to her feet, but it's a kind of awkward roll, pausing at one point as she starts uphill before completing.
She closes her eyes and brushes the sand out of her hair, then turns to face Julia, letting her arms come down to rest at her sides.

"Wait, are you serious about this?" Julia asks, still looking a tad bit confused. "Why did you come here if you didn't want to fight? I mean, seriously, this isn't a sightseeing tour!" She narrows one eye at Kazue, before shrugging herself as well and then assumes her fighting stance.
"Listen, I don't exactly know who you are or why you're acting the way you are, but if you want to get serious about this, then I've got time." Julia watches Kazue carefully, waiting to see if Kazue truly has it.

Kazue is silent for a long moment. "As long as I'm here, I might as well see the sights. But you wanted to fight down here rather than up there." She slowly walks closer and closer to Julia. "Just because someone is a waitress, don't assume they have a desire to be a waitress." She suddenly drops down, and hurls up a double handful of small rocks and sand at Julia's face, and then steps back, biting her lip and raising her shoulders in a bit of a shrug.

"What's with you?" Julia asks, raising her eyebrow again, before raising her hands to protect her face. The sand passes by harmlessly, while the rocks bounce off of her hand. "Come on, you're making no sense here," Julia says, now sounding a little bored as she speaks. "This is supposed to be active, not some boring conversation thing."
Julia steps towards Kazue, attempting to get in close enough so she can deliver a simple jab punch. Nothing special nor flashy, just a test to see if Kazue really knows what she's doing or if she's just here for the heck of it.

Kazue lets Julia's punch smack the side of her stomach, shifting her body a bit to one side and hooking her arm around Julia's as she does. "Beating people up for money in front of cameras doesn't excite me." There's a trace more energy to her voice, and it's a bit unsteady now, as she tries not to react to that punch. She pulls downwards as she talks, and turns, shifting forwards and trying to pull Julia's arm with her. She raises an arm towards the back of Julia's neck to push her down as she tries to swing the arm upwards, in an attempt to throw Julia facefirst into the ground.

Julia simply shakes her head. "Then why are you here?" She asks, before tensing herself up, making her neck harder to grab onto. Once she's got it right, she pulls Kazue's hand off of her. "Why did you come here if you're not excited by this? It doesn't make any sense." Julia steps back, looking at her opponent with even more confusion than before. "Are you here for some other reason? And why did you want to fight on top of the pillar?"
Julia pauses for a moment, but then wonders if Kazue is acutally paying attention to her. "If you're really paying attention, then let's see you handle this." Julia steps forward and then spins around slightly, before attempting to deliver a double set of uppercuts to Kazue.

"For the money, of course." Kazue starts to retreat, watching Julia's leg to avoid the kick, and then is hit with a set of uppercuts, and lands flat on the ground. She rolls back up to her feet after a moment, and her attention shifts to Julia's hands. She takes another couple of steps back, and swallows a bit of blood, her eyes darting up to Julia's for a moment. "Not as good as you, of course. You'll probably win this. I'll still get money. It's really good money, if I can get even a little bit better." A slight smile. "So it doesn't matter if I win!" She rushes forwards, and spins around, aiming a carefully placed heel at Julia's head as she kicks backwards.

"You're in this just for money?!" Julia asks, starting to feel like this was all a sham all along. Julia came here expecting to get some sparring in, albeit while being watched on television and things like that. Instead, she's got this dark, sarcastic girl who doesn't seem to take what she's doing seriously. It feels like a joke, but since Julia's already here, she might as well finish this.
As the heel comes at Julia's head, she actually twists herself so that the hit does make contact with her, but her body twists so that she's in a better position to grab onto Kazue. If successful, Julia will demonstrate how to do a fisherman's suplex... personally!

Kazue is grabbed easily enough, but kicks off the ground and spins, tearing herself out of Julia's grasp. "The stronger I get, the more money I get. If you aren't here for the money, why do it? Do you enjoy pain? Do you enjoy inflicting pain?" She shakes her head a bit. "I don't understand that desire. Maybe life is too easy for you." Her eyes narrow, glancing over Julia again. "You probably don't even need this money."
She takes a step forwards, and starts pummeling at Julia's stomach with little finesse but a lot of energy.

"I'm not doing this for just money!" Julia exclaims. "I'm doing this to improve myself so that my journey to save my homeland will be less difficult. There are many obstacles in my way, and some of those include fighters who wish to stop me. I can't let that happen!" She takes a deep breath before putting her hands onto her stomach, absorbing every blow carefully.
"If you're just in this for money, I suppose there's nothing I can do about that, because we all have our own unique reasons for fighting." Julia then drops down into a crouched position and attempts to do a foot sweep towards Kazue's feet.

"Love for your homeland? Has your homeland looked out for you? You-" It's at this point that Kazue, carefully watching Julia's hands, is swept, and her back lands against a rock. She rolls off it, and claws at the ground for a moment, before rising back up. She takes a few steps back, watching Julia, her eyes having intensity they were lacking earlier. "...If your goal is to get stronger... that means that you'd prefer it if I don't hold back." She rushes towards Julia, and launches herself into the air, aiming a two-footed kick for Julia's chest. If she hits, she'll rebound and use Julia as a step to run up the nearby pillar. If not, she'll keep on running past her to get some distance.

"If you want to think of it that way, then go right ahead." Julia is anticipating just about anything... but not something that fast. Julia finds herself being used as a stepping stone for Kazue to get up onto the pillar. She holds her head in pain, glad that her feathers weren't damaged in any way, then shakes off the pain. After a moment, she looks up and sees Kazue up on the pillar.
"I guess you really like fighting in extreme styles, huh? Well, I can live with that, definitely." Julia steps back and closes her eyes, focusing on her pendant again as she clasps her hands over it. "Spirits, come to me. Help me continue this battle."

Kazue stares down at Julia from atop the pillar. "I don't like fighting." A slight shrug of her shoulders, and she swings around behind the pillar, out of Julia's view, then repeatedly slashes with her knifehand across the surface, before spinning around and aiming a kick at the point she's weakened - much easier than using the attack against a moving target. That said, the top part of the pillar is now falling towards Julia. It's not particularly fast, but it is kind of... large....

"This is more like a strange contradiction if you ask me," Julia says as she opens her eyes again and looks up at Kazue. "Seriously, I don't get what the point of this whole thing is--" The speech is cut off as Julia steps back, attempting to protect herself as best as she can against that pillar, which does hurt still.
"If you're not really into this, then let's finish this, shall we?" Julia steps back and focuses on her fist, before attempting to rush forwards and strike Kazue in the stomach with a very high-powered punch.

"Would you not try to save your homeland with your skills if you didn't enjoy fighting? If you do, I feel sorry for that dream of yours." Kazue scrabbles down the pillar, alighting a little more gracefully this time. "I'll do what it takes to fufill my dreams, even if it's disagreeable." She tilts her head at Julia's question, then shrugs.
"That's what I'm doing." She rushes backwards as Julia rushes forwards, barely outrunning her palm, then drops down under it and spins around, lashing out her leg a sweep much like the one Julia performed on her earlier.

"I don't know what your dreams are, but everyone has their own, and they require different skills," Julia comments, watching Kazue as she comes at her. "I don't know whether yours are legit or not, but I can tell you that if you're not enjoying the fight, then you shouldn't push yourself into things like that." As Julia recovers from her initial attempt to strike Kazue, she spins around and attempts the same technique again. This time, she makes contact just as Kazue trips her. She drops to her knees, then gets to one foot then the other. "Ow. That actually hurt, you know. Are you sure you don't like fighting?" Her tone is very stern and not sarcastic.
Kazue stumbles back as Julia's palm hits her in the stomach, and falls into a sitting position, staring at her with a somewhat dazed expression. She climbs back up to her feet. "For theft, or for fighting, this is all I know." She pushes herself upwards with one arm, staggering back to her feet. "So I fight." She lunges towards Julia, forming her left hand into a knifehand, the edge glowing a faint blue as she slices at her stern opponent.

"Theft? What are you talking about?!" Julia asks with shock in her voice as the pieces start to fit together in her mind. "Don't tell me that you're a criminal, are you?" Now Julia is starting to get a bit angry. "I detest crime and things like that. In fact, one of my best friends on the reservation was the victim of the life of crime, even though they managed to break away from it." Tears start to well up in Julia's eyes as she remembers what happened to her best friend.
"I won't hold back any longer!" Julia snaps as she rushes in and attempts to deliver a roundhouse kick, aiming her boot at the side of Kazue's head. "You've gone too far now!"

Kazue sails through the air a couple feet, and then her head smacks into a cliff wall. She crumples to the ground. Slowly, she pushes herself back up to her legs. "I was a thief. I was pretty great at it." She forms her limp fingers into knifehands. "I was offered a chance at another life." They start to glow with blue energy. "But, in this life, I could do nothing, for the world was alien to me." She takes a step towards Julia. "There was no way to make my own way." Another step. Another. "So, I have to do this."
She lunges at Julia, aiming the same chi-enhanced knifehands she was so recently aiming at the wall at her, then spins around, aiming a back kick. This done, she crumples back to the ground.
COMBATSYS: Kazue can no longer fight.

"You choose your own destiny," Julia comments as she watches Kazue come at her for the last time. "You made this yourself." She moves out of the way quickly, and watches as Kazue goes down to the ground. "I'm sorry you didn't want to do this, but you kind of brought yourself into this, so what else is there to say really?" She sighs and turns away. "You may think this is a win for me and a loss for you, but that's not why I'm fighting in this. It's the development bit that got me into this."
With that, Julia steps out of the fighting area and dusts herself off, taking the time to check on her possible injuries. As for Kazue, well hopefully she'll be getting treated by the fight attendants.
