Description: Zach and Yuri face off in the NDP. Both fighters bring their full power to the table, but only one will walk away. (Winner: Zach)
As the NDP officials are taking their places and getting everything set up, Yuri Sakazaki is warming up off to the side, loosening herself up for the fight and occasionally having a drink of water. The NDP is pretty new in itself, and Yuri hasn't been in many fights yet, but she sees this not just as a chance to improve her fighting skills, but also to prove that Kyokugen Karate is truly the best style in the world.
"After this fight," Yuri says as she does some light stretching, "Kyokugen Karate is going to be more popular than it was before! Every fight is another step forward for the best style in the world!" Yuri says with a big grin as she finishes her warmup and prepares for the fight to begin.
Zach simply raises an eyebrow as he walks onto the stage. He heaves a sigh; sassy girl. Again. Clearly, the people arranging these fights have it out for him. He doesn't bother with the stretching, having handled that before walking out. He looks around, taking in the historic sight with curious eyes. He'd have to get the tour.
"Speaking o'," Zach says almost conversationally, "Did Rust ever make it back to the dojo? After what went down in China, I mean." Zach slides into an orthodox boxing stance, taking up a short weave with his upper body.
The bell rings.

"Oh yes, Mr. Rust still makes it to the dojo now and then," Yuri replies, not recognizing the voice at first. Then she looks again and her eyes go wide. "Zach! What a nice surprise!" Yuri grins widely. "We haven't fought for awhile, so it's really nice to see you in this development thing. You and I are gonna make Kyokugen look even more awesome than it did before!" She jumps up and down briefly then gets into her bouncy fighting stance.
And with that, the bell rings.
"Ready or not, here I come!" Yuri exclaims as she rushes at Zach and attempts to deliver a blast of energy at him while she gets closer. Sure it's a projectile, but the distance could use some improvement.

Zach's eyes narrow a bit, both at Yuri's Stepford-ish response, and the projectile she follows up with. Zach steps in lightly, slipping to his left to allow the projectile to sail by him harmlessly. A frown works its way across his face as he tries to get a read on the young lady.
He never really thought much of her before, and for all of what he sees here, there isn't much to change his low opinion of her. He doesn't mention the war, or Rust's involvment in it. He doubts it'd really faze her one way or the other.
He steps off hard, getting Yuri into his range before snapping off a flickering jab. Golden energy drapes around the extended fist, adding force to the punch. Zach doesn't stay long enough to see the result, leaping clear.

One of the things that Yuri forgot temporarily was that Zach utilizes energy with his normal attacks, but that's not likely to be forgotten anytime soonl. Not that she just got hit directly in the stomach, causing her to double over and gasp loudly as the air is knocked out of her lungs. As she holds her stomach with one hand, Yuri attempts to catch her breath, and watches Zach move out of the way. In spite of how hard Zach hit Yuri, she still seems to be able to brush it off for now.
"Not bad, but I was just getting started!" Yuri says with her arrogant style. "I'm playing for real now!" She casually advances on Zach, then goes low as she attempts a foot sweep.

Zach brings up his right leg, allowing the sweep to pass it by. He fails, however, to clear the left leg, catching the kick in the ankle. He bites back a foul word, because cripes do ankle shots hurt, while options race through his head.
He doesn't bother with regaining his footing, allowing the drop to add a bit of momentum. He brings his right fist back, charging it with Soul Power. He doesn't bother talking to Yuri; it's like talking to a wall in many ways.
Zach's response to Yuri's assertation of drive is to slam that right fist directly into Yuri's collarbone with sufficient force to drive the wind out of her.

Zach may have plans to drive his fist into Yuri's collarbone, but Yuri does not want that to happen. She knocks Zach away and spins to the side to face him. "Looks like you still haven't lost your touch, have you Zach?" Yuri asks with a smile. "That's good because I always enjoy a good challenge from old rivals." She shakes off the pain from deflecting Zach in her arm and then faces him.
"So, what's next?" Yuri continues, still grinning. "Got any more tricks up your sleeve that you'd like to show me? Because that energy stuff is really neat!" Seems Yuri hasn't changed either.

Zach does not answer Yuri's questions, or respond to her comments. He's... not really interested in a conversation, clearly. He simply regains his stance, and watches as Yuri dithers on cluelessly about how nothing has changed since the King of Fighters. Even beyond the fairly obvious change in hair style Zach has sported since that ill-fated tournament, speaks voluimes of the girl's vapid ignorance.
Yuri clearly is not coming to him just yet. That's okay. It's also okay if she wants to see more energy. Zach literally glows with the stuff as he opens to gates just a bit.

"Not talking, huh?" Yuri asks. "Oh well, looks like we're just going to have to focus on fighting." She clenches her fists and narrows her eyes, still grinning. She finishes talking and advances on Zach, who's intent on channeling his energy. The way he does that seems so cool to Yuri, but to her, it still can't match the awesomeness that is Kyokugen Karate.
After a moment, Yuri takes a deep breath and blows it out. Then she steps forwards and then spins on the ball of her foot, launching into a spinning kick attack going into an aerial arch aimed at Zach.

Zach brings up his right arm, stopping the kick on his raised guard. He frowns, and aims a single punch.
The form of the thing is fairly text-book, a three-quarters punch that visually resembles something between a right hook and a right uppercut. The striking power is derived as much from the shoulder as it is from the legs and hips, but nothing to make the headlines with.
The thunderous burst of Soul Power that accompanies it, however, rattles loose rocks and dust for ten feet around the two. "Just shut up," Zach says flatly.

Yuri does not like being told to shut up. In fact, her demeanor sours quite a bit as Zach comes at her. One eye narrows in a glare as she grits her teeth and plants her feet firmly into the ground, starting to change from being cheerful and happy to becoming grumpy now. Zach has ruined her fun and now it's time to ruin his fun in return.
As that powerful punch comes at Yuri, the girl brings up her hands and yells out, "SAIHA!" Causing a force field form around her hands. This protects her completely from being hit by that huge punch that was coming at her. Once she's taken care of it, Yuri just resumes her fighting stance, still glaring. She steps back a little, but other than that, nothing changes.
/Finally/! Some emotion other than vapid enjoyment via self-fulfillment! Zach was /wondering/ if the brat had any handles he could work. Until now, he'd have thought there weren't.
No challenges are issues, no jibes cut at her expense. Zach simply lunges in, reaching for Yuri's head. He attempts to grab the young woman by the back of the head before driving a Soul Powered knee into her breadbasket. If that is accomplished, he simply torques on the Kyokugen Fighter's head to toss her to the cobblestones!

That's a swift series of attacks coming at Yuri. But the first one doesn't even land, since she twists her head out of the way, causing it to escape successfully from an incoming series of attacks. Yuri also spins her body to the side as well, stepping back as Zach goes past her. She watches as Zach's attempt to launch a series of attacks backfires. She doesn't wait for him to recover, though.
Instead, Yuri steps in and attempts to grab Zach with both hands on his shoulders. If successful, Yuri will flop onto her back, still holding Zach, and push him off of her using her feet, sending him into the air and onto the ground.
COMBATSYS: Zach endures Yuri's Quick Throw.

Zach rolls with the throw, exhaling even as he hits to lessen the shock, if not the damage of the throw. The psion slides across the stones before rolling to his feet in a three-point stance.
He doesn't give Yuri time to breathe, let alone time to stand up. He thrusts his right fist forward, firing off a burst of psychic energy. Like the previous attacks, this one seems as much aimed at driving the wind out of her as hurting her!
COMBATSYS: Yuri fails to reflect Blast Punch from Zach with Saiha.

Zach wants to hurt Yuri, while Yuri doesn't want that to happen. Unfortunately, that projectile goes faster than Yuri can get her shield up, and it really hits her hard, knocking her across the arena and causing her to slam into one of the walls. Dazed and also lacking in air again, Yuri gasps as she tries to grit her teeth through the pain. She struggles to get back onto her feet, narrowing her eyes as the pain surges through her body.
When she finally gets back onto her feet, Yuri starts to take deep breaths, trying to fill her lungs with air again. The only thing worse than being in pain is having little air. Nevertheless, Yuri still keeps her fighting stance looking strong as ever.
Zach doesn't care about Yuri's stance. That was a palpable hit. The girl is feeling it. Zach pulls his energy back into himself, the golden aura around his arms fading a bit.
He allows Yuri a moment to regain her breath, taking a moment to further stoke his own inner fires. He has something he wants to try, but he simply doesn't have the juice for it just yet.

Indeed, Yuri is feeling it, and Zach is definitely truly showing just how dangerous he truly can be. But no matter what, Yuri still doesn't believe that Zach can beat her that easily. In fact, even with her wounded state, Yuri just won't allow Zach to beat her that easily. He can gain as much energy as he wants to, but it's not going to help if Yuri has anything to say about it.
"I'll get him!" Yuri says to herself as she breathes deeply. "I'm not going to let him beat me! I'm going to win this fight!" A bit of self-motivation on Yuri's part.
COMBATSYS: Yuri gains composure.

The words, the muttering, reaches Zach's ears. He doesn't smirk, doesn't smile at it. It's hard to tell if he is getting /anything/ out of this fight other than the fight.
Zach steps, then leaps in. He rocks back while in midair, Soul Power whirling around his head. Before he lands, before the ground can rob him of some of the momentum and force, he whips his upper body forward, driving a crushing headbutt between Yuri's eyes. He seems to be aiming for that headband. It /does/ present a nice target.

That headband is one of Yuri's favorite things, and it's definitely not a target. Yuri narrows her eyes as she brings her guard up to protect her face and that headband as well from Zach's hard head. (Hey, if it hit you with that intensity also, you'd think it was hard too, wouldn't you?)
Yuri reels back from the impact briefly, then resumes her stance instantly. Without missing a beat, Yuri attempts to rush into Zach and deliver a swift rising uppercut not unlike the Dragon Punch, albeit with a Yuri-style touch added to it!
COMBATSYS: Zach interrupts Yuri Chou Upper from Yuri with Pile Bunker.

Zach drops his aura almost completely, channelling all of it to his right hand. Yuri's fist catches him in the jaw causing his head to rock back, but not before his right fist taps against Yuri's torso.
"Gotcha," Zach mutters.
In less time than Yuri has to react, a massive spike fires from that right fist, launching the girl back the way she came. Zach shakes his hand loose as he regains his stance, keeping an eye on the young lady. Lord only knows what she's about to pull out this time.
Yuri never knew what hit her untill after it hit her. She was sent sailing across the arena, a large pain in her stomach, and then smashing into a nearby wall again. Between her stomach and now her head, Yuri is barely able to see straight as she tries to stand up again. She slaps her face a couple of times to try to get the stars out of her head, but even without the stars there, she's still having trouble standing strong.
"Unngh... my stomach..." Yuri groans a little before looking up at Zach, through eyes that are having trouble staying open as she tries to keep her focus on him. "That hurt... but so will this!" Yuri closes her eyes and begins to focus, energy forming around her and then causing her to glow. With a yell, Yuri sends forth several large fireballs of chi at Zach in rapid succession.
COMBATSYS: Zach blocks Yuri's Denjin Haoh Sho Ko Ken.

Zach recovers quickly from the strike. Worked like a /charm/, he thinks. Yuri responds with a barrage of fireballs. Zach grins faintly, bringing up his hands and spinning up a barrier of pure willpower.
Red chi smashes against golden Soul Power, throwing up sparks, dirt and dust. When it all clears, Zach is still standing, arms singed to the elbows. Pieces of tattered sleeves flutter to the ground as Zach launches himself toward Yuri. He gets in close, and shows again that while he may have adopted boxing as the framework for his fighting style... it doesn't define the whole thing. A charged elbow slams toward Yuri's breadbasket again, a muffled thump of power trying to knock her breathless again!

A swift body blow catches Yuri directly in the stomach. She finds herself doubling over in pain and trying to suck air into her lungs... But it's no use. Yuri's reached the end of the line. She tries to stand up and, in a last ditch effort, send forth one last blast of chi at Zach, before she falls flat on her face.

Zach blinks once or twice as Yuri pulls out a surprisingly large fireball. His reaction is a bit too slow, the psion only gets his hand up to summon the one move he knows will stop the attack cold.
The fireball smacks him cleanly across his whole body, causing him to stagger back several steps. However, he remains standing through it.
That causes him to blink as well. He peers at Yuri, backing off quickly to allow the referee to count the girl out. Ten seconds later, the bell rings, and Zach's hand is raised. He waits, waves once to the cameras, and then heads off.
He needs to see someone about that tour.
