NDP Championships - NDP Season 1 Finals (12/2011)

Description: Season 1 of NDP ends with an explosive finale as two renowned dance warriors, Aranha and Mister Jones, fight out to see who's the grooviest. (Winner. MrJones)

The Neo Development Project Finals kicks up with its theme as it shows highlights from the season up to now. Kicks, punches, and slams from various fights play in a montage form as the music continues. When it finally finishes, the Neo Development Project logo comes to the forefront.

Pre-fight analyses are done on both fighters including public fighting records and the path they took to get here. One of the things they note is while Aranha has more wins in the NDP, Mr. Jones has pulled off a victory against him in the actual season itself. Most of the commentators hand the advantage in this match up to Mr. Jones for that reason.

After the build up to the fight, they bring out the fighters to fight it out in Ken Masters' office. First of which is Aranha, wearing his fighting garb as opposed to his usual jean and t-shirt outfit for when fighting on the streets. He then waits for the opponent to arrive.

It is only fitting that the last fight of the season would have kickass fighting music. Backstage, Mr. Jones is swaying slowly to the beat getting hyped up for the final match. Aranha is a legendary fighter of sorts according to everything he has read and he is not surprised he has gotten this far on the league, nor that he has to fight him yet again on the finals due to the fact he kept a perfect score even if the two dance fighters have already danced.

The Groove Master rolls his eyes slightly when the announcers can't help but mention that Aranha has more points in the league that him. Well, he would have gotten more points if he could just find more matches! He blames this on Ken, and Sagat too just because he can. Though it matters little now since here he is now, battling for the title of best fighter ever. Yeah, that's what this tournament is for right? Sure feels like old times, if only Kang was here, or heck, he'd settle for Elias.

Since dance fighting is all the rage now, as stated earlier, the music is pretty boss. Thus when Mister Jones is called out to the spacious office, he waltz in swaying to the beat with hands on his pockets, shades flashing looking cool as hell. Only one minor detail causes Jonesy to purse his lips when facing Aranha once more, though he understands why this is so even if he decides to voice what concerns him.

"Aw, you ain't wearing the shirt I gave ya."

But to be fair, those commentators also noted that Aranha's own appearance has a bit less legitimacy since one of Aranha's victories came from making an opponent laugh until they were unable to fight. One of the things that will nag at the capoeirista unless he gets a victory here.

Either way, the capoeirista doesn't wait very long for Jones to get there. After a few moments, Aranha addresses the concern of Jones. "I would feel bad about ruining an shirt like that in a fight. These," he says as he gestures to his current clothes ", are at least easily replaced and I won't feel bad about ruining them."

Then officials indicate that the fight will be starting soon and goes over the rules with the two men before letting them separate.

Aranha gives a nod to both the officials and to Ken Masters who is sitting behind his desk as he looks on to watch the finals. And then he nods to Jones. He doesn't really bow because the closest thing that he had to bowing in his capoeira classes is shaking hands at the foot of the roda and that doesn't quite work for this type of thing.

The official walks to the center and brings down his hand in a chopping motion as he shouts for the fight to begin. Aranha, immediately goes into ginga.

....that he hadn't heard before. Made his opponent laugh into submission? Well, Aranha is a pretty funny guy, and tickling is a legitimate tactic! He thinks! So Mr. Jones is no doubt still very impressed at this, though eventually he starts to tune out the commentators talk to concentrate on the fight. Only the tune of the music ringing on his ears keeping his shaded eyes facing the capoerista before him, focused only on Aranha yet still aware of everything around him, the crowd, the lights shinning above them and even Ken Masters who witnesses the fight like some kind of Roman Emperor enjoying a gladiator fight.

In Jeet Kune Do, there is such a thing as bowing, so he turns to Ken first to do the traditional Peace over Power salute and then towards the dancer boy as well. A flashy grin spreading across his funky features.

"Well ya never know, you could always sell it in e-bay or somethin'" It's good to hear that Mister Jones is finally getting into the groove of the modern era. Being frozen on a perpetual state of the 70's can't be healthy.

When the official announces the beginning of the fight, the Funky Fighter assumes his Jeet Kune Do stance and begins to bounce lightly on the balls of his feet. Two fighters with different styles, but with a very similar...shall we say...flow.

"Alright..."

"Let's dance."

"Well said."

Aranha's lips curl into a somewhat impish smile as he continues to sway to music in his head, opting to dance to the beat of his own atabaque as it were. The fight starts and it appears that the rhythmic Jeet Kune Do fighter is chooses not to go on the offensive. Somewhat appropriate considering the name of the philosophy. Aranha on the other hand, chooses to attack. With a sudden spin, Aranha's hand lashes outward as he whips out a blue spider web of chi at the shade wearing fighter.

Aranha then chases after his own web by performing a tumbling pass to close distance.

Mister Jones can't help it. Even if he is a pretty brutal fighter that gets into lawless street brawls very often, he's an entertainer by nature, so it's natural that he'll want to keep the audience entertained by staring down his foe first and swinging with the beat all badass like. Something that perhaps Ken might appreciate, but it's also a very dangerous thing to do, particularly against a skilled fighter such as Aranha who is filled with tricks.

"What the frigg?" Well waddaya know? Aranha can also throw those frigging chi blasts thingimabobs and true to his namesake, he seeks to entangle him with an energy beam in the shape of a spider web!

Mr. Jones starts to back pedal away from the blast with a frowny face, hating these chi blasts with a passion, yet he /has/ to find ways to get around them and get into the close quarters fighting that he loves and excels at. Exhaling air, he ducks low and does a forward somersault to jump clear over the web shot and land on his feet right in front of the speedy dancer. "Too close!" He wheezes before sending a quick back fist directly towards Aranha's jaw and pop him on the side of his face. "WATAA!"

The intent of sending the chi web in this case was to utilize it in an attempt to get in close, his own ideal range, but to do so with a web shielding him as he made his approach but to also discourage Mr. Jones from charging him to stop his attack before it begins. The plan works well at first but then Jones back pedals which keeps Aranha from closing the distance on his terms.

When Aranha sees the Afro styled fighter jump over it, he attempts to slam on the breaks. He's successful however he ends up being left in a position where he is in no position to defend himself from the back fist. He ends up stumbling a bit but then he suddenly spins in the same direction of the back fist and lashes out with a side kick. A grin plastered on his face the entire time.

COMBATSYS: Aranha successfully hits MrJones with Medium Kick.

Okay, so far so good, just gotta keep the momentum flowing his way and outdance Aranha. The back knuckles collide solidly upon the other dance fighter's face, yet despite this first blow, Mister Jones feels that there's something wrong. He didn't put /that/ much force behind the strike, it was mostly to daze the Capoerista slightly before he went in to strike. Why was he spinning like that then? Maybe all those trips to the gym and lifting weights had paid off?

"Ugh!!" Nope, that ain't it. Aranha was doing it on purpose! When Jones struck him on the face, the dancer just went with /his/ flow and turned around to slam a kick on Jones gut.

It connects with his stomach, yet Tha' Jones is already on the attack and just keeps going. The beat of the music fueling his charge once he sees Aranha's back exposed like that. It would be a weak target to one who doesn't know where to aim. Jones does however and bends forward to send a right hook directly towards the side of Aranha's stomach, aiming for a malicious kidney shot. "HAAI!!"

COMBATSYS: MrJones successfully hits Aranha with Retro Knuckle.

"HURK!!"

Aranha's smile vanishes mostly because a shot like that hurts. In fact it hurts a lot. Aranha's face and body both contort in pain as the capoeirista stumbles back and away clutching his side. Not wanting to let Jones have the freedom to continue putting pressure on him, Aranha leaps towards Ken Masters' desk, and from there leaps up on the lighting fixture and swings on it in a way brings him around in a circler and using the momentum from swing back to deliver a kick on Jeet Kune Do fighter.

After the kick, he rolls into a crouched position on the ground as he watches and waits.

Mista' Johnny Jones' knuckles connect against the squishy kidneys, but even if it looked like that hurt the Capoerista boy, he knows better than to stay put and inside Aranha's circle of defense, particularly when he is giving him his back since he's in a perfect position to get back kicked again. Now ostensively Mister Jones could have gone for the grapple and choke hold, but that ain't how the Jones do you know? This is right propa' dance fightin', which means he slides back and resets his stance to keep himself safe whilst also give Aranha some room to recuperate.

"Hey, is that allowed?" Asks Jonesy wiggling his eyebrows when Aranha has more than enough energy to not only move out of the way, but jump on top of Ken Master's desk and swing himself in his direction to drop kick him. Well, using the elements is totally legit as far as he is concerned, and doesn't object to that strategy. He can't really, considering there's a foot swung directly to his face.

"Hoshison!" Jones keeps them arms up, covering the goods and taking the blow to his forearms rather than on the shades as it usually happens on fights like this. Jumping back, he looks over his guard in the precise moment when Aranha lands on his feet and swings a quick roundhouse kick of his own, directly towards the Capoerista's temple with trademark kyah. "WASHOO!!"

When Aranha rises to his feet, he steps in an attempt to come in close enough that force of the kick is blunted by thigh to shoulder contact as he delivers a elbow to the face. On paper, the idea was sound however, Aranha falls short on the execution with a hesitation of a fraction of a second being the difference between stopping the attack cold with one of his own and stopping the attack with his face.

Aranha spins once more but this time, it's genuine and he ends up spinning to the ground, rubbing his jaw as he slowly works his way back up to his feet.

Fortunately for Johnny Damon's own good, he's too freaking fast. No doubt Aranha is used to be the speedster in fights, but that's the same case for Tha' Jonesy. Ultimately, when in their deadly dance of death, it comes down to who is the fastest and who can predict what the other will do. Due to their previous encounter, Jones knows that Aranha likes to swing with elbows first, therefore he had delivered that kick with extra 'omph' to it in order to prevent this to happening. It barely works, with Jonesy's foot catching Aranha in the face before he can close in the distance and send him down on the ground. This dance is as brutal as it is graceful to watch.

Though mostly brutal.

Particularly when it involves Jones, who despite being an actor and dancer first, his street fighting sometimes gets the better of him and seeks to capitalize on Aranha struggling to get back up. When they boy begins to lift himself to his knees, Jonesy will be sending a front snap kick directly to his chin aiming to use the Capoerista's head like a soccer ball!

Somewhere out there. Roberto is probably smiling.

And when Jones goes to deliver that kick, he'll find that Aranha is no longer there to receive it as he goes into a cartwheel to get away from it. And towards a bookshelf that Aranha kicks off of launching himself away from the other fighter and give himself some breathing room.

An aggressive strategy hasn't worked out too well for him this fight, maybe forcing a change in the tempo might be in order.

Aranha hangs back and decides to carefully study Mr. Jones from the way he moves to how he glances around. That part might be harder for him. Capoeiristas tend to focus on the eyes but keep watching everything else.

Of course, Jonesy ain't at all surprised when Aranha avoids the dirty attack in such a graceful manner. He isn't the runner up to win the League just 'cause he's a cute kid! The dude can fight and he knows this first hand by having danced with him previously, therefore Jones doesn't dwell on it too much and spins on his heel making a complete circle landing on his Jeet Kune Do stance once more.

Eyes narrow behind those shades when Aranha breaks his jinga and simply starts looking around the place acting like he's cornered. Intriguing, but the dance fighter doesn't believe the act exactly because he has fought Aranha before. He has a lot more left in him and he knows it.

Jones breaks his stance to start pacing back and forth acting like some king of street fighter, probably acting like in one of his movies where he had to play the bad guy. Watching him still, those shaded eyes never breaking eye contact with the other dance fighter. Tha' Jones waits for the right time to strike and leaps towards the Capoerista, left fist extended and aimed low to the gut, only to straighten up and turn it into a left hook for the face. "WASHAA!"

The capoeirista raises an eyebrow at the shade wearing actor when he breaks his stance and walks around. Despite that initial surprise, the traceur/capoeirista stays focused on the fighter in front of him and though he can't read those eyes due to Jones' shades, he can at least get a read on the rest of him.

The capoeirista steps back a half a foot from the punch to the torso and then spins around the left hook utilizing the spin to build up momentum for a powerful chi enhanced open handed strike to the face. He then continue to use that momentum to perform a spinning back heel kick to the head as well.

Hey, Jones ain't one to get out performed. If Aranha wants to play the part of cornered victim, Johnny Jones is more than eager to make himself all tough looking and get a grim scowl on his face to play the part. He's as much an actor as he's a fighter, and he aims to please the crowd, particularly in an event as big as this.

Still he doesn't forget what he's here to do and smacks his lips when the left hook fails to connect. However, he's already inside Aranha's circle of defense and doesn't want to reset the distance again. Therefore as that open handed strike came directly towards his face, Jonesy raises his arm up to stop the attack with his already bruised forearm and duck low under the kick the follows, barely hitting him in the fro at it goes sailing past. "Woo!!" As he gets up from his squatted position, Jonesy sends an open palmed strike of his own, delivering an attack with the heel of his hand directly towards Aranha's chin to nail him in the jaw and ram the back of his head against a wall. "WASHAA!!"

Inside Aranha's circle of defense is right where he wants Jones. It just means that he has less of a distance to travel when he clocks the other fighter. The thing is dealing with a fast strikes like that palm strike in particular, Aranha has not had as much success with covering up as he would like and so he moves in...

Right into the palm strike and he finds himself stumbling backwards and into the wall.

Gritting his teeth, he shakes his head a bit to clear out the cobwebs and he finally goes back into his swaying dance

It's a double edged sword. Mr. Jones enjoys being inside the circle of defense of the other fighter, even though that means he's likely to get clocked too. This is what separates good fighters from rookies, knowing when's a good time to go in and when you have to get tha' hell outta dodge. As it stands Jonesy only goes inside when he has the momentum, like for example when he simply extends his arm forward letting Aranha ram his face on his open palm. This doesn't do much damage, but it does leave the Capoersita on a rather nice position to get pinned against a wall.

Even if his intent is to shake his head and try to sway back to the rhythm of the high stakes music Jonesy is not getting out of that circle. He's in and he's staying in, looking to cement his hold by delivering a piston like fist directly for Aranha's liver! "HAAAII!"

Aranha had felt that style of punch before, and quite frankly, he was in no rush to feel it again. He barely has time to gasp before he finds himself needing to slip to the side to get out of the way.

That slip to the side of the attack allows for an open attack right for Jones' back, but anything he could think of that could consistently take advantage of it wouldn't have the power he needs. He has to take a risk, an almost stupid risk. But while he no longer had his back in the corner literally, he still had his back there in a figurative sense.

He pushes off the ground bodily launching himself at the actor with one of the most powerful roundhouse kicks he can muster directed right for his back.

*KAKRUNCH!*

There's a lot of merit in Aranha's reasoning in not wanting to take that kind of punch again, any haters will be silenced by the fact that when Aranha gets tha' hell outta dodge, Jonesy ends up hitting the wall instead of the capoerista's liver causing the freaking thing to shatter!

"Ow.." He's far from being a Grand Master himself though and the Retro Fighter hurts his knuckles in the process of punching a hole through the wall. Though still, those who have fought Tha' Jones weren't kidding when they said he punched like a freight train.

Punching hard is not quite enough to win a fight however, it doesn't matter if one can punch through steel if they can't land a single blow, which puts Jonesy in a precarious situation as he now has his arm stuck on the wall whereas Aranha is free to move about and capitalize on his lack of mobility. In the end, all that Johnny Damon can do is curl his arm whilst moving his leg up and take the kick on his rock solid shin and forearm. It hurts him quite a bit, but he reckons he rather take it there than on the gut!

After that, Jonesy busts his arm out of the wall he made in Ken's office, regarding Aranha with a broad grin. "You don't disappoint brotha' man! This is gonna be a dance to remember!" Cackles the Groove Master. Mr. Jones does love to rile the crowd, so instead of continuing his attack, he takes a flashy pose by placing one hand on his hip and dramatically takes off his shades sending them up in the air where they land on the eyes of a very /very/ lucky fan. "Woo!!"

Of course, this may be just a trick so he can catch his breath without wheezing, making it look like he's exhausted.

It's one of those moments that Aranha is pretty glad that he got out of the way. As far as the ex-thief is concerned, better the wall than him, even if he doesn't personally like damaging the fighting area any more than an occasional scuff from his sneakers. That relief is short lived however due to the fact that first, Jones has managed to set himself free, and second, it looks like in addition to catching his breath, Jones looks like he's focusing in on him and now with the shades off of his face, Aranha can actually read his eyes.

The capoeirista can't afford to ease up on the pressure. That moment to catch his breath could be all it takes for Jones to finish him. The capoeirista takes a step backward before performing an aerial which places him just short of the posing Jeet Kune Do fighter. Then he pushes out with a side kick tilting his upper body low towards the ground.

Yes, the show boating looks silly, is totally unnecessary and it has he nasty side effect that it leaves Mr. Jones /completely/ vulnerable to an attack.

Good thing then that it was a trap.

Mr. Jones flashes a pearly white grin when Aranha launches for an attack when he's busy riling up the crowd. But this was no mere mindless celebrating; because Aranha was moving around so friggin' much, Tha' Jones wanted the capoerista to get in close so he'd stop chasing him around. Can't parkour if you're in the middle of an attack it seems; as the side thrust kick comes to his gut, Jones re-adjusts back to his dreaded Jeet Kune Do stance and takes the incoming kick on his forearm where he holds Aranha's leg up. "Oh baby!!"

Keeping the ex-thief standing on one leg, Tha' Jones swings a kick of his own directly for the inner thigh of the boy, ramming his shin on the squishy part. Injuring the capoerista's peroneral nerve, the retro dancer simply lifts the caught leg up and lets Aranha fall on his back.

Aranha's desire to turn the fight around ends up being his own undoing. The capoeirista ends up getting caught between the knowledge that it was indeed a trap and the fact that if he didn't press on, it would put him in a difficult position. If anything Aranha was in a catch 22 situation which was rare. He was usually the one putting his opponents in catch 22 situations.

The capoeirista gasps as his leg gets snatched out of the air and then grunts once when thigh is kicked and then lets out a second grunt the moment he hits the ground. "Ugh..."

He rubs out his leg for a moment shakes it out and tests it as he watches the other fighter carefully and then he comes in with a vicious roundhouse kick to open with his response, he then follows it with a back heel kick to hook around the back of the older African American's neck which he intends to use to pull the Action Star fighter face first to the ground.

Mr. Jones ain't singing victory just yet, he's not the overconfident arrogant type even if he acts like it sometimes. The strike was a decisive one, though it ultimately hit Jones arms too which means he has to take a step back and rub it instead of jumping on top of Aranha and pummel him with fists as he has been known to do when thoroughly annoyed.

This lack in commitment means that Aranha can get back to his feet and press on with the attack with a movement that Johnny recognizes. "Hey! I remember this one!" He says a little /too/ cheerfully about getting a kick swung to his face. It may be however because, since he has seen it before, he is prepared for the attack Aranha did on him on their previous fight. Like last time, he blocks the exact same way, Jones curls his arm up to take the blow on his forearm with a side block and when the leg hooks around his neck he keeps his footing strong refusing to go down!

Just as before, this also leaves Aranha rather in a bad position with his leg up curled around Jones shoulders, so once again, Jonesy capitalizes on his foe standing on one leg to send a right hook to the boy's stomach and work on them kidneys. "WASHAAA!!"

In this case, Aranha was hoping to catch Jones in a moment of weakness and unfortunately, Aranha doesn't quite manage it. Aranha's foot runs into what might as well be a wall for all intents and purposes. His foot stops dead leaving him wide open for the hook to the stomach, doubling him over and making him collapse like a sack of potatoes.

Then Aranha works his way back up to his feet, wobbling. He gasps for air and vision begins to blur. By all rights he should be on the ground. His legs shake as they are about to give out on him and he almost collapses to the ground again but he catches himself with one hand. "God damn it," he mutters. "I belong here in the finals, and I'm not going home until I prove it and shut up those god damn slap nuts who said I had easy match-ups getting here."

His body suddenly flares up glowing with blue chi. A sudden burst of energy fills him and he dashes past Mr. Jones to a wall as he's trailed by blue afterimages. And then it begins. He bounds off the wall, off the ceiling, off of the bookshelf, off the door, off the desk, kicking the Groovy Jeet Kune Do fighter from every imaginable angle before skidding away from him in a three point position and then he finally collapses.

Hmm..Mister Jones hates to admit it, but he does so enjoy punching someone in the squishy kidneys, even if he's a good guy it's kind of a guilty pleasure of his!

Once the punch connects on Aranha's stomach, the Retro Fighter holds that position, fist shaking with great fury in a clear shot out to very old school martial arts movies. In fact, if there are any fans present in the crowd they will recognize this stance as how he ended another movie of his; Red Belt Jones. "OoooOOooooOooo..."

Aranha falls on the ground, Jones steps back and it looks like it's over. Though then Jonesy's eyebrows raise as the boy curses, glaring up at him with resentful eyes. "Hey! Don't look at me! I didn't say nothin'!" Come on, he even gave the kid a shirt, he has nothing but respect for the fellow dance fighter.
"Yikes!" The berserking capoerista charges to try and kick Jones which causes the Groove Master to slide out of the way. "Woo!" He jumps when jumps when Aranha comes at him from another angle and finally makes a split when he comes at him from behind, letting the boy sail right over him. "Oh mamma" Says the Funky Fighter, pulling another pair of shades which he places on his eyes.

Getting back up, Jonesy walks up to the prone Aranha with fists clenched thinking that the capoerista still has energy to continue fighting. Though after staring at him for a few seconds, it doesn't appear like this is the case and thus Jones leans down to try and pick him up, dusting him in the process. "You okay bro?"

"Yeah. I'm good."

He allows himself to helped up though his body is somewhat limp from exhaustion and the tenderizing it received from the fists and feet of the shade wearing battler."It wasn't you. It's just everywhere I go I have people talking about how I shouldn't have ever gotten to the finals. I got tired of hearin' it."

He grits his teeth at the pain. "Anyway, thanks for the shirt and the fight. I felt as though I had to get something for you as well."

The capoeirista reaches into his pocket and pulls out a pair of shades. Not just any shades. Oakley Thumps. The mp3 player and sunglasses rolled up into one tidy little package. "You might want to be careful about wearing them into fights though. People love targetting them."

"Screw the haters." Is what Mister Jones always says and chuckles softly whilst helping Aranha up, placing the boy's arm over his shoulders so he can stand up.

"Hm?" Now that's something he didn't expect, receiving something from Aranha, Jones looks a bit apprehensive at first. Permanently stuck in the 70's his first reaction is to think that the shades are kinda chunky, though the second he realizes that he can listen tunes /while/ wearing shades makes this day a whole lot better. "Man! This are tight, homes! Don't worry, now I have an excuse to not take punches to the face no mo'."

And thus Jonesy just stands there listening to the crowd cheer after the epic dance fight, letting the referee come down to call the match, shaking hands with Aranha for a match well fought. "Keep on dancing lil' brotha' and don't let it bother you none. It's up to us to represent dance fighting after all."
