Tairyu is a legitimate business owner managing Mars & Venus -- a combined host and hostess club in the heart of a certain entertainment district in Southtown. Well. That part *is* true, but it's not the whole truth. The not-so-secret truth behind Katashi Tairyu is that he is the heir and current boss to Aizawa-gumi, a family of Yakuza operating in Southtown, dealing in a protection racket, contraband, illegal gambling and the occasional extortion of corrupt officials. In spite of the obvious reputation of organized crime, Tairyu runs the family with an ethos tied to fostering trust and respect with the civilians in his family's turf, even offering protection for them and working to keep street-level crime clean and unobtrusive to the 'regular' people. Tairyu might be a criminal by base definition, but his sense of honor is strong and there are lines he doesn't allow his family to cross. The Yakuza boss is even often seen running collections personally and taking it upon himself to solve problems for people living and working in his turf, making the sight of him taking on petty thugs and gangers attempting to intrude on the turf a common one -- much to the frustration of his lieutenants.
