Description: At the request of Cammy, Lita steps in to teach Brett a few things about fighting. The thing is, she needs to figure out where he is before she can give him direction on where to go.
It's been a while since his last conversation with Cammy, but Brett was...well, he was somewhat looking forward to this. Not so much for finally meeting her partner (though there was some anticipation for that too). But...well, that promised training was something he was looking forward to. Considering his total lack of any formal training, and his...issues dealing with anyone connected to Duke, he was eager to learn anything that might help finally pop the Devil-man one good. Not all by himself mind, but...well, any little bit helps.
So here Brett was, nighttime in Metro Square, one of the open fields not under the glare of too many street lights. Shifting a little from one skate to the other, bag laying a few yards away and his stick at his feet, he waited. He really had no idea what he should be looking for, aside from a uniform like Cammy's...and he tried not to think too much about that lest he look like a tool, red in the face for reasons he wouldn't say out loud.
And when Lita arrives, she arrives wearing her variant on the Delta Red uniform. Same color however, instead she wears a single-legged, sleeveless catsuit version. However what's striking is the fact that in addition to carrying the giant sword on her back she's also carrying a hockey stick and wearing inline skates instead of her normal foot wear.
She hasn't met Brett yet however she can instantly recognize him. Who else would be carrying a hockey stick in the middle of Metro Square in late May? "Hello. I'm Lita Luwanda. And I believe that you're Brett, am I correct?" She extends a hand out towards the hockey player for a handshake. "Anyway. I was told that you wished to learn self defense techniques. I must confess that I don't know a lot about hockey so I believe I'll be learning as I teach and perhaps between the two of us, we can build on what you already know and potentially expand my skillset at the same time."
She pauses for a moment before continuing. "Of course, I'm going to have to see where you are before we see where we need to go. Is this acceptable?"
Well, that's not the exact uniform he was imagining, but Brett is still taken aback a little by the uniform, not to mention the....rather large sword. He DOES remember Cammy mentioning a sword. He just wasn't expecting one THAT big. "Um....h-hi," he says, waving to the Delta Red agent, losing the fact that she's on skates too. "Yeah, th-that's me..." he stammers, swallowing a little before he reaches out for that handshake. "Yeah, Cammy mentioned you. Thank you for this." He he manages to calm a little, as he remembers why he's here. No sense gawking too much.
"So...a spar, so you know where the holes are?" he asks, when she insists on seeing how far along he already is.
"Exactly. A spar is exactly what I was thinking of."
Lita lifts her beret and pulls out a street hockey puck with ball bearings to allow it to travel on the ground with ease and lets it drop in front of Brett. "Ok, love. Let's see what you've got." Her lips curl into an impish grin and then she takes her stance. Oddly enough, it looks more like a staff fighting stance than one used for hockey. She probably wasn't kidding when she said she didn't know much about the sport.
COMBATSYS: Lita has started a fight here.

Brett blinks as the puck comes out...and smiles. At least she's been doing her homework on hockey, though the kid can't help but scratch his neck a little as he crouched down to pick up his stick. "Alright...I don't think I'll need this though, I rarely use actual pucks to fight," he says, gilding the puck over toward his bag to make sure it's out of the way.
When he gets set for the spar, he definitely looks the part of a hockey player more than Lita is, his stance echoing that. Bent low in a face-off stance, he takes in a deep breath and then suddenly whacks the heel of his stick against the ground. Exhaling slowly, he looks up, his demeanor and expression changing to a much more focused one. Suddenly, he breaks into a dash, trying to swing by and skate past Lita. He comes to a stop, then breaks toward her again, trying to pass once more, but this time with his stick extending outward to try and hook his stick around her neck on the pass. The idea?: use his momentum to drag her down into the ground by that hook.
COMBATSYS: Brett has joined the fight here.

And as Brett comes towards her, she turns to the side, deflecting the hooking attempt aside but still having the stick glance off of her shoulder as she turns. She then completes the full turn on her skates before facing Brett once more.
"Interesting take on fighting, actually." She then skates back into close range as she swings the butt end of the hockey stick at Brett's skates to take his feet from under him and then, if she can ground the the hockey player, she sends the hooked blade of the stick down on Brett's shoulder. She's trying to spar/teach the young man. Not actually kill him after all. Other wise, she would've brought it down on his face.
COMBATSYS: Brett blocks Lita's Medium Strike.

It's perhaps not so strange that trying to hook someone over who's also on skates is a little bit harder than against one who isn't. Still, it doesn't faze Brett, as it wasn't meant as a decisive blow. He's just trying to warm up right now. Of course, he ends up forced to contend with a strike toward his skates, a strike that sends him stumbling. Despite landing hard on a knee, though, he manages to roll with it.
Wincing as he is, he manages to turn himself back onto his skates, avoiding being grounded and left to rights. Still, it sends him far away enough that he's forced to rely on one of his few longer-range options. Reeling his stick back, he looks like he's about to go for a slapshot. What comes, however, shows why he forwent the puck, the slapshot managing to create an arcing blue wave of chi that skids across the ground, cutting across the field and toward Lita.
COMBATSYS: Lita blocks Brett's Shark Crest.

It's fairly impressive that Brett still manages to keep enough of his footing that he wasn't as open to the hack to the shoulder as she would've expected. The other thing she didn't expect was blue wave of chi screaming at her. She suddenly changes the grip on her stick to something resembling a hockey stick grip and places the blade of the stick between herself and the wave of chi, stopping it but driving her backwards in the process.
"Well that right there is one thing I can't help you with. I can't use chi." The Delta Red Lieutenant skates her way over to the bag to take control of the puck. "And while you may not need the puck, I will."
She lowers her body down, raises the stick and performs a somewhat unskilled attempt at a slap shot at the actual hockey player attempting to hit him in the chest with it.
COMBATSYS: Brett interrupts Medium Fling from Lita with Hurricane Check EX.

Well, it's a bit counter-intuitive to skate straight toward a flying puck....at least, not if you're not a goalie. But Brett seems like he throws caution to the wind like that. Skating in behind the Shark Crest, he comes in closer and closer, only pivoting around when Lita takes a turn back toward where he left the puck. And when it flies? He just keeps going at her.
The puck slams straight into his chest, but despite the grimace of pain, he doesn't stop as he plows forward, stick raised high in his hands as he slams a hard high-check, his momentum turning him around completely until he slams off his skates again into a driving shoulder ram into her chest. "NGNHhhh!!"
The Delta Red Lieutenant doesn't even have a chance to lower her stick before she finds Brett's shoulder smashing into her chest and sending her flying. She hits the ground in a skid and then she picks herself up. She can't help but smile because that's the type of thing she does already when she wields her sword. But she won't unshoulder her sword yet. Part of this is an exercise to see what she can learn from Brett who knows his particular craft better than she does even if she knows the combative aspects a bit better.
She skates around in a circle before going towards Brett again, this time she tries something different. She uses the hockey stick to trap one of his arms and then wrench it as she forces the hockey player face first to the ground.
COMBATSYS: Brett endures Lita's Close Quarters Catch.

Brett 0/-------/=======|=====--\-------\0 Lita
It takes a while for Brett to settle back after the full committed Hurricane Check, but it seems like a satisfying blow, seeing how Lita is sent flying off. Centering himself again, he grips his stick carefully and starts on his roll again. He wasn't quite expecting Lita to end up trying to hook him just as he did before. Without a chance to brush it off or pull it back, Brett just goes with it, letting himself be wrenched forward hard with his arm.
While his faceplant is gonna be nice and hard, assuredly, his course does end up sending him right toward LIta as well...so why not use it? Stick braced as he falls, he grits his teeth, and swings hard forward, trying to drive the toe of his stick hard into her side as he falls forward, and eventually plants. "NGHHhhhhh!"
COMBATSYS: Lita fails to interrupt Medium Strike from Brett with Overhead Strike.

Brett 0/-------/=======|=====--\-------\0 Lita
Of all the things Lita expected, Brett going with the arm wrench so easily was not one of them. Nor was him being able to get back in her face so quickly. She attempts to readjust the grip of the hockey stick and detangle the stick in time to slam the hockey stick over Brett's head. She's not successful.
Her side gets jammed by the toe of the stick and she's sent rolling away on her skates as she clutches her side with her free hand. "Can't say I expected that."
Brett groans, rubbing his face after pushing himself up again, feeling the soreness that comes with plowing face first into the ground. He can't say that he really caught the staved-off overhead smash, considering the landing hurt enough as is. "NGhhh...how...am I doing?" he groans, slowly sliding out of his 'game face'. Or perhaps not even really committing to it fully, considering it was meant only as a spar.
COMBATSYS: Brett takes no action.

Brett 0/-------/=======|=====--\-------\0 Lita
Lita brings a finger to her lips in thought. A good chunk of things for Brett to work on and even a good chunk of things for her to work on. She also knew she was going to have get someone else to help Brett with the chi aspects. She was no help in that aspect. After letting the wheels turn for a bit, she finally answers. "Not bad. A little rough around the edges but it's something I can work with. I can put you on a regime of staff fighting since it may expose you to different ways of using your hockey stick than you probably would not have been exposed to otherwise. Meanwhile I will need to do more research as well."
Now first on the agenda, watch more hockey. Second, watch Brett's fighting tapes.

Brett 0/-------/=======|=====--\-------\0 Lita
Brett nods. Staff fighting...that seems like the closest thing to an 'actual' weapon discipline that might translate to what Brett can do and already does. "Right...right," he says, slowly straightening up as he pulls himself out of his fighting stance completely. "Nnnn." He rubs his face a little more, keeping his stick held carefully in his other hand. "Any other suggestions you might have?"
The fact that Brett is holding the stick in one hand does give Lita a bit of an idea. She rolls it around in her head for a bit before she gives voice to her idea. "Actually it might be a fairly good idea to give some grappling training as well. Occasionally you did have a free hand which could be used for trapping somebody's limbs while you strike or someone using the stick. Plus it would serve you well if you couldn't use your stick. Plus the idea of not always having your stick would probably be a good reason to learn some unarmed striking as well. And all of those will give you perspective when fighting someone else using those types of styles. For now rest up. We have a lot of hard work ahead of us."
With that, Lita skates over to the puck and flicks it up into the air to snag the puck and then she places it in her beret before putting it back on. "Take care Brett."
Grappling training, huh? That's actually one of the aspects of fighting least from Brett's mind. Mind, he knew how to tuck and roll, having taken enough bad spills on the ice to learn recovery skills like that. But it seems like learning grapping is something he's not sure about, a frown on his face as he considers it. The unarmed training gets a better reception though. "Yeah...maybe I should look into that..." he says, rubbing the back of his neck.
As Lita skates over to take her stuff, he gives a small dip of his head toward her. "Th-thank you again," he says, smiling back to the older woman.
