Neo League 901 - #924: Aranha vs Sonozaki

Description: A Neo League match between newcomer Setsuna Sonozaki and the experienced Dancing Spider that takes place in the Pao Pao Cafe! Although Setsuna has the upper hand early... (Winner: Aranha)

The Pao Pao Cafe. Who would've thought that not only would they let Neo League do another fight here, let alone let one of the people involved in a league fight that completely wrecked the place return. It involved lots of begging and pleeding on the part of the Neo League execs but the fight was arranged.

Aranha didn't expect anyone to show up and he especially didn't expect for Neo League to call him to fight here. Far be it from the capoeirista to refuse money to fight. Just imagine how surprised he'll be to find that he's going to be fighting another Metro City native here.

She wasn't supposed to be here, really. Technically, she's got.. a test.. to study for, or something. But whatever. She's been feeling a bit out of sorts ever since her last Saturday Night Fight, versus that Miu girl. Something not quite right about her. As a result, she signed up again, and she told the organizers, in no uncertain terms, "/No weirdoes/." Okay, this is coming from a high school girl with an eyepatch, but whatever.

She walks into the Pao Pao, projecting confidence, and aside from her obvious youth in looks, she doesn't look like a high school student--she's dressed in a 'young' fashion, of course--not quite standard fighter chic, but close--black tanktop, blue denim jacket, black jeans, gloves, and boots. When she walks in, she relaxes a little, seeing her opponent.

She doesn't know he's from Metro, but that would be an interesting thing to find out. "You Aranha?" she asks, her voice surprisingly melodic, an alto--she doesn't sound brassy, actually rather quiet and composed.

When Sonozaki walks in, Dancing Spider's lips curl into a slight grin. "Yeah. That would be me." He rolls his neck as he steps into the area cleared out for fighting. The battle scarred capoeirista seems fairly relaxed.

He then glances about as the Neo League cameras move into location and the official moves into the cleared out area. He bounces on his feet a few times as he mentally prepares himself.

He then states the obvious. "I guess that would make you Sonozaki. Let's see what you've got." He's almost tempted to call her kid but he doesn't think he's old enough to call anybody kid except maybe a few specific people.

"First name's Setsuna. But I guess going by my last name is fine. Makes me sound more mysterious." She says it with a total deadpan, then, she hops over the barrier into the ring. "Weird place for a fight. 'least they've got enough room for it, though," she says, half to herself; shaking her head, she tightens her hands into fists, then relaxes them, then nods to herself.

"Right then," she says, raising her hands up into a fighting stance, one that looks awfully like the same stance Guile uses, knees bent slightly, body squared up. "Guess we're gonna have to get this goin'..." And so she steps in towards the capoeirista, hoping to take him off-guard, firing a quick, simple front kick towards his abdomen.

"Oomph!"

After all those times he's gotten sneak attacked in class. All the times he's had people attack him at the foot of the roda, and as many times as he has been ambushed by various people wanting to either send a message or kill him, one would think he would be harder to catch off guard. Setsuna Sonozaki manages to do so.

Even while getting caught, he manages to stay somewhat close but if he can manage enough of a burst of speed, he can shoot forward and low, catching the kicking leg on his shoulder before it gets drawn completely back and goes back to the ground, and rise with her leg in the air as he kicks the grounded leg from under her and drop her to the ground.

"Nice to meet you. That was all they gave me... Not my fault someone spilled soda on my invite."

COMBATSYS: Aranha successfully hits Sonozaki with Medium Throw.

Hey, that wasn't a -sneak- attack. She even went into a fighting pose first and everything. If she had been -sneak- attacking him she wouldn't've said anything first. But that's moot. Her attempt to draw her leg back is altered, and she finds herself suddenly on her back, dumped hard.

She huffs, more to protect her breath than out of annoyance, and rolls away afterwards, popping her elbows down and rolling up onto her knees, as part of getting up.

"Nice to meet you, too, 'Aranha'." She isn't terribly far from Aranha yet, so she takes a step back, then another--but she reverses her last step almost immediately. As she does so, she throws her right hand in a long uppercut--clearly not meant to reach Aranha, instead she unleashes a grey 'blade' of wind chi, sending it hissing towards Aranha, reaching to just about chest height.

COMBATSYS: Sonozaki successfully hits Aranha with Windcutter.

That step back puts the capoeirista in a bad position. Close enough that dodging that blade of wind chi is difficult at best and far enough away that coming in with a counter kick would be difficult. His Web Shot with the spin that presents too much of a vulnerability at that range isn't even an option.

The blade of wind chi cuts into him leaving a hole in in his tank top and bit of blood running down his chest as well as knocking him back.

He attempts to close the distance with a quick run as he dashes off towards a table and then leaps off of it with glowing hands extended to grab the other fighter by the shoulders and sending a burst of blue chi into her before bringing his feet to her abdomen pushing her away as he flips backwards off of her.

COMBATSYS: Sonozaki blocks Aranha's Hunting Season.

Pretty fast. That's what Setsuna is thinking, as Aranha rushes her down; he sort of gets purchase on her, but not quite in the way he would like; the burst of chi doesn't do an awful lot, and he'll find that she has abs of iron--at least right at that moment--which might make it easier for him to push off, but also prevents him from doing a whole lot of damage.

Setsuna takes off on her own short run, more of a dash really, two steps, before leaping up after Aranha--seeking to grab him in midair and use a bit of leverage to whirl him around and back down to the ground, back in the direction she came from.

COMBATSYS: Aranha fails to interrupt Quick Throw from Sonozaki with Sky's the Limit.

As the traceur/capoeirista flips away, he can see he's on a path way to that table he had originally leaped off of to deliver that original attack. He can also see Sonozaki closing in. If he can just get back to that table he'd be alright.

One problem... Sonozaki is just a bit faster than he counted on and his foot gets to about 3 inches away from the table before he's snatched out of the air, swung around like a ragdoll and then tossed away.

To his credit, he manages to only grunt upon impact on the ground.

Setsuna lands with a thump, her booted feet sounding a solid *whack* on the flooring. Turning around, she presses the attack; there's little to suggest she feels any sympathy for her opponent. She's deliberately been choosing to go for speed over power--capoeristas are renowned for their evasive abilities. She's got something of the upper hand--but she can't let herself get cocky.

Moving in again, she shows healthy respect and caution--when she gets within range, she jolts forward, throwing a strange combination--she twists to her right, then unwinds, unleashing a fast left backfist which is followed, immediately thereby, with an attempt to grab Aranha by the neck, with her right hand, and slam him into the flooring once more.

Not really the complimentary type, she still manages to convey that she isn't treating him like a jobber, despite the imbalance in the fight so far.

COMBATSYS: Sonozaki successfully hits Aranha with Combo Grapple.

The capoeirista does manage to pick himself up off the ground just in time to have back fist connect with his chin spinning him around. When he gets his bearings he finds Setsuna's hand on his throat before getting lifted and bodily slammed to the ground.

His eyes go wide as the impact shakes him up but when his throat is released he's back up to his feet for just a moment before he goes up and over and then swings a heel down on top of her head.

COMBATSYS: Sonozaki blocks Aranha's Strong Kick.

Setsuna defends the kick by throwing her arms up, crossed, at the forearms, to absorb the blow; even with that, it drives her down to one knee, before she can reassert her strength and push up and off, in an attempt to keep Aranha off-balance; again she chooses to remain on the offensive, her expression set into a glacially calm and composed focus, with maybe the slightest hint of frown to her lips.

Her one eye is alive, calculations and considerations being made, and then she drives forward, throwing a two-punch combination--a left uppercut, to set up for a bigger, slower, right uppercut--almost exactly like something Aranha might expect to see out of a boxer. In fact, much of her style seems to borrow from one style or another, in both obvious and subtle ways.

COMBATSYS: Aranha dodges Sonozaki's Fierce Punch.

Capoeirista seems to finally get some life as he weaves out of the way of the first uppercut and then dancing around the second uppercut, using ginga to both evade the attack and set himself up to come across her face with a powerful, chi enhanced, open handed strike across the face. It doesn't look pretty but he doesn't care.

He then drops low to the ground as one hand touches the ground as he swings a heel kick right for head. A short exhalation follows the kick

COMBATSYS: Sonozaki fails to interrupt Dead Man's Hand from Aranha with Fisherman's Hook.

This time, it's Aranha who proves too fast--Setsuna sees the backhand coming, and decides to move into it, to try to cut Aranha off at the pass, so to speak--but she mistimes it, and the slap stuns her--the heel kick takes her off her feet, sending her spinning through the air to land heavily on her side.

For a moment, it seems as though she's out, laying there--then her eye snaps open, and she rolls to her front, then rises again. Point to Aranha--and now she -knows- just how strong he is. She'll have to be even more cautious--she's a tough woman, but even so,s he can't afford to take too many bruisers like that.

The spin's momentum swings the Dancing Spider to a standing position for just a moment before he begins to dance again, taking slow breaths as he watches Sonozaki. Her stance, and eye are studied for any indications of what her next move will be.

Aranha drops low sending a scything kick towards her foot in the hopes of disrupting her balance and then lifts his body up curling into a ball with one hand planted on the ground before he pushes outward with both feet to kick her in the abdomen.

COMBATSYS: Aranha successfully hits Sonozaki with Medium Kick.

Setsuna's breath whooshes out of her; the slicing kick unbalances her; her arms are out of position for the second kick, and it hurls her backwards. She stops herself after a few steps, breathing hard, her eye narrowed... and smiles, faintly. "You'll forgive me if I'm not willing to concede the fight to you," she says--tacitly acknowledging that Aranha's taken control of the fight in quite a spectacular fashion.

But, as she said--she's not willing to give up just yet. Breathing out heavily, she centers herself into a horse stance, grey-white wisps of chi whipping up around her feet as she builds power, perhaps prepatory to one final attempt...

COMBATSYS: Sonozaki gathers her will.

When Setsuna smiles at him, he's just as quick to return one of his own. He rocks and sways to the rhythm in his head. The scarred capoeirista slowly closes in. "I would never ask it of my opponents. I respect fighters with heart."

Then he skips into kick range as he lashes out with a roundhouse kick.

COMBATSYS: Sonozaki blocks Aranha's Kick Combo.

The viewers at home familiar with Aranha would note that the roundhouse looks practically identical to the opening of Aranha's Face Down. It's not until it's obvious that the hooking back heel kick will never come that something different is going on. Instead, Aranha attempts to step past Sonozaki with the kicking foot and scissor both legs about hers before dropping to the ground and twisting with a scissor leg takedown to drop her on her back.

Doesn't quite happen that way, fortunately for her; the first kick is met with a forearm, Setsuna ducking past it even as she blocks; that energy curling up around her terminates suddenly, as she throws herself into a quick forward roll, diving over that scissor leg takedown; she turns a quick tumble and pops back up on her feet, already rushing forward.

Aranha's definitely pushed her, in terms of skill and endurance; she can only hope to do the same to him, as she suddenly bursts forward, beginning a storm of attacks--hammering jabs, hooks, uppercuts, mixed with swift knee shots and low side kicks, a barrage lasting nearly 6 full seconds; at the end she fires a last straight punch then hops backwards, throwing a pair of those grey windblades, right then left--only much larger, as tall as she is.

After that, she just looks exhausted, but still game for the fight, ready to keep going 'til she drops--or until Aranha drops.

COMBATSYS: Aranha blocks Sonozaki's Divine Storm.

His takedown comes up empty and he immediately spins back to his feet. He figures he doesn't have much time until she retaliates. He's right. He watches as she charges in. In that instant before the first strike he notes the fierce determination in her eyes and the way her body was carefully positioning itself to put in as much hurt as possible.

He grits his teeth as he intercepts that first strike to come in. Each subsequent shot rattles him but even still, he manages to keep up with her and hold his ground. It's those windblades however that end up sending him skidding back as he crosses his arms against them.

He takes a deep breath to force air back into his lungs. After that, a sigh of relief can be heard. "Damn, girl. Whooo!" He shakes out his arm as he walks around her. And then it's his turn. He dashes in, lashing out with various kicks. Roundhouses, back heel kicks, outside crescents. Each one of them lit with the glow of blue chi as he delivers kick after kick. There's only a slight pause. Just long enough before he tilts into a handstand and whirls about with chi tinged kicks and then he returns to his feet.

COMBATSYS: Sonozaki fails to interrupt Royal Flush from Aranha with Slashing Wind.

It's the moment of truth. Setsuna decides to meet her fate head-on--her only chance, she thinks, is to try and cut Aranha off before he gets going--but the damage he did with those kicks is just too great; a muscle pulls, her step falters, and then her world is a stuttering set of images and pain, as Aranha quite effectively beats her down--far more so than she had managed to do to him.

The final blow knocks her out cleanly; she falls to her back, breathing, but clearly done; her last thought is a simple one. <I've got to do better than this.> It's not a comforting thought, but it will be an empowering one.. assuming she remembers it.

As Setsuna falls to the ground, Aranha spins away from her watching as the officials call the match and the med units attend to the other fighter. Meanwhile, Aranha clutches one arm and then the other. The other fighter's barrage has left an impression on the older(but still young) fighter.

He gives one more glance before turning to walk off. Only one remaining thought in his own mind is, 'Man... I wonder if anyone has snatched her up for their team yet.'

Not everything is set in stone for his own team yet and he wouldn't mind knowing whether or not he'll be facing her or not.
