Sonozaki - Crosswinds at Gedo High

Description: Megane's out to observe some people. He lays his bespectacled eyes on the new transfer student, Setsuna Sonozaki, and decides to see just how well shee fits in at Gedo. Turns out, she fits in pretty well.

It's early evening, and school just wrapped up a bit ago. Not that classes are that important anyways, or people don't hang around afterwards. In some ways, isn't Gedo closer to a fighting social club than an actual school?
Megane stands in a hall, next to an open second-story window overlooking the yard in front, pondering heavy thoughts such as that. He watches the various students pass by, keeping an eye out for the unhappy ones. Happy people are harder to push towards change.

Gedo is... just like home was. In some ways. Even the richer areas of Metro City were not insusceptible to the way the rest of the city was. Setsuna Sonozaki grew up in a nicer area of Metro, but.. she's rough and tumble with the best of them.

As luck would have it, for Megane, Setsuna is leaving her classroom right now--maybe twenty yards down the hallway. Notably, she's not leaving with anyone, though there are a couple of people trailing behind her. Also notable is the fact that she's not wearing anything remotely resembling the Gedo uniform--in fact, she's wearing a black tanktop and faded blue jeans, her combat boots thumping the floor.

Oh, and her eyepatch, covering the left eye socket, and the totally disinterested expression, just this side of hostility, on her face.

Megane glances over to Setsuna as she moves out of her classroom, and then, seeing her expression, fixes his gaze on her. "Sonozaki." Naturally, he knows everyone in the school's name. He keeps track of new students, although he doesn't know much beyond what anyone else does about this one.
"Do you have a moment?" His voice is calm, polite even. Which is a little uncommon in Gedo, although not unheard of.

She draws even with Megane before stopping; her looks, whether he would find her attractive or not, are uncommonly refined, for Gedo High students, and her clothing, up close, has a more refined look to the fabric, as well; in general, she just has that 'foreign' look to her despite the fact that she looks entirely Japanese.

She regards the young man for a moment, her expression changing to something a little more measured, though no less disinterested. The pause is almost awkward, before she speaks, her voice a low alto. "Make it quick," is all she says, that one eye narrowing.

Megane smiles slightly, relaxed, holding back the urge to tease her - for the moment. After all, he can pick a fight any time he wants. He pushes his glasses back on his nose, looking directly into her eyes. "I just wanted to know what your goal was in coming to this place." He'll hold this eye contact until she looks away, for the moment.

She -almost- smiles. But it would be out of character for her to do so. So instead she meets that gaze. In as much as she has only one eye to see with, it's a bit easier for her to hold that gaze. But he asked a question, didn't he? It would be impolite not to reply. And when she thinks about her reply, she does smile, if just a little, with a dark tinge to it.

"I'm here to get an education," she finally says, her voice as bland as she can make it. "The best education life has to offer." Clearly she isn't talking about Gedo's -academic- programs...

Megane nods, a slow, measured movement. Calculated. "Part of the reason why I stayed here." He pauses. "Well, you probably hear this from all the guys around here, but I'd feel rude if I don't ask it, and to be honest, I want to...." Despite his words, his tone is light. He smiles, and is silent for a moment, purely for effect.

"Would you like to fight?"

That isn't what she's heard from 'the guys'. Usually that involves wolf-whistles or catcalls. So she's surprised, but not so surprised that she lets it show. "Hallway's too narrow," she points out, then walks past Megane to the next window over. Looking through the window, Setsuna nods, then casually slides the window open. "See you down there," she says, by way of accepting the challenge--then she hops out.

She's not jumping two stories down; that *thud* is her, landing feet-first, on the roof of the maintenance shed--and then a second, more muffled *thud* as she lands on the courtyard floor. Already, the word's getting out, as she saunters out to the middle of the courtyard.

Megane blinks, looking over to watch her make her way to the ground. He swings out his own window, hanging onto the edge of the ledge with his fingers, then drops down, breaking the rest of the fall with a gust of wind chi that blows his jacket upwards for a moment.

He lands softly, and follows her out to the middle of the courtyard. An eyepatch... maybe he can exploit depth perception issues? An interesting challenge.

If Megane's a student of fighters at all, and not just some guy--and the gust of chi seems to say he's got skills--then he'll probably realize that Setsuna is, at least outwardly, compensating for hte loss of the eye. She doesn't seem bothered by it, as she bounces on her feet briefly; she reaches into a back pocket and pulls out a pair of black, fingerless fighting gloves, pulling them on. She doesn't offer any platitudes or taunting; she just raises her hands.

Her stance is reminiscent of boxing--or, if Megane is familiar with it, the American Special Forces stance, with her hands up and her legs widened, her stance open to her right. She waits maybe six seconds, once he gets down into the courtyard... and then she's moving forward.

Her forward movement is steady, cautious, as she almost sidles--then shoots a pair of jabs from her left hand at Megane. Not aiming for the face, she punches for the chest instead--easy to defend against, at least.

COMBATSYS: Megane fails to interrupt Medium Punch from Sonozaki with Strong Punch.

Megane doesn't take any stance at first, remaining in a neutral stance. He stands in a neutral position, watching her. Well, it's not surprising she can compensate for normal movement. But optical illusions... hmm.

As she moves towards him, he decides that perhaps he should stop thinking about what's the best strategy, and instead try to figure out what he's going on. He's hit by the first jab, and tries to strike back at her fist with his own, but her quicker jab smacks past his partially extended arm and hits him. He takes a step back, frowning slightly, and raises up his hand, tracing a finger against the edge of his glasses. "Nice."

Setsuna remains neutral about her success; it's only the opening exchange, after all. But Megane definitely isn't like the typical Gedo punk--four of which she's crushed utterly, though they were simple thugs without a lick of training or skill. She's hoping Megane will provide her with an experience she hasn't had yet--at least, in Southtown. But she expects that she'll be able to find all sorts of good fighters... not just at Gedo.

But, back to the fight--she declines to stay in close with him, but a little sardonic grin twists her lips as she keeps the pressure on, even from afar. How does she do this? By taking a half-step forward, and throwing a short right uppercut. But it isn't the punch that's intended to reach--it's the grey-white blade of wind chi that hisses out, cutting its way towards the glasses-wearing fighter.

Megane takes a step backwards as she steps towards him, and as he feels wind chi coming towards him, pushes his hands together, and begins to swing them in a small circle. But once again, he's not quick enough, and the wind slices into him, his own wind slicing off into the ground, dissipating.
Once again, he takes a step back, tracing a hand against the large bleeding cut in his uniform. "Apparently I can't take you head on." A tone of mild interest. It's not like he hasn't been outclassed before - although it could be bad for his reputation if he's totally destroyed at Gedo. He smiles. This is getting more interesting.

"Maybe not," is her reply; she isn't as clinical and analytical as Megane is, but she isn't some hyped up berserker. Still, she'll give him a chance--of sorts. After that second attack, she still doesn't move in--but plants her feet into a horse stance, her fists at her sides--and blades of that grey-white energy start swirling around her, rising up in a vortex that partially obscures her, briefly.

She doesn't let out that typical 'Haaaaaaaa...' sound, but Megane might hear it in his head anyways, as her legs move slowly, sliding around into a more typical stance, from that lowered horse pose--though she retains that squat, for a moment or two. Now, destroying Megane isn't really what's on her mind--he challenged *her*, after all--but if that's what is going to happen...

COMBATSYS: Sonozaki gathers her will.

Megane begins to copy the stance for about a second, wisps of more translucent wind cutting around him, and then straightens back up. Imitating her moves hasn't done him any good.

Still, he keeps the blade of energy whirling around him, growing, focusing in on his fist. He walks forwards, and the spiral moves him faster, pulling him, and he rushes towards her, blades of wind kicking up behind him, and he throws his fist at her.

COMBATSYS: Sonozaki blocks Megane's Rush Punch.

That punch was definitely solid; throwing up crossed forearms for it to impact into was still, perhaps, not the -best- idea, but he moved far too fast for her to really consider anything else. Setsuna shoves her arms up and to her right, just after impact, to help deflect it; but it still throws her back a step or two. She smirks at him, as she's recovering.

"So, you -can- hit," she says, teasing in that deadpan voice; she shakes her hands out, then nods. "Yeah... let's do this," she says, then surges forward. She feints a punch--a left jab again--but seems much more interested in getting up-close and personal with Mr. Megane, attempting to sweep around him, get her arms around his waist.. and suplex him right into the courtyard's cement.

Of course, she's got to make up that distance first, and those who can use the chi of the wind... can be fast. But she's willing to take that chance.

COMBATSYS: Sonozaki successfully hits Megane with Power Throw.

Megane smiles faintly as he lowers his fist, his tone relaxed. "On occassion. Don't get too used to it." His eyes, however, are narrowed, focused. He summons up the wind again to move to the side, but she's faster once again, and his head and shoulders are slammed back into the pavement.

He just kinda lies there for a moment in pain, staring up at the sky, and making a bit of a useless blocking gesture in front of him. When he realizes he's doing this, he does it for another couple of seconds so it will look like he's doing it on *purpose*, and then suddenly rises into a crouching position, sweeps a leg at Sonozaki's feet, and continues to turn as he stands up, raising his leg, and crashing his heel down on where she would theoretically fall if the initial leg sweep worked.

COMBATSYS: Megane successfully hits Sonozaki with Strong Kick.

She falls for it--literally. Not the blocking thing--but she was moving in to 'finish the job', as some might put it... and she got careless. She took that lack of movement for what it wasn't, and now she's paying--the sweep takes her off her feet, and then, the heel slams into her midsection, driving the breath from her with a loud, wordless 'whuff!' sound. Give the girl credit, though; she manages to roll away afterwards, getting some distance before pushing up to her feet.

"Good," she growls, after a brief cough. "I was hoping you wouldn't make this too easy..." Then she clenches her hands together, tensing her body, crashing her fists together once, knuckle to knuckle, before raising her hands higher, the look in her eye practically -daring- Megane to bring it on.

COMBATSYS: Sonozaki enters a trance-like state.

Megane           0/-------/=======|=======\===----\1         Sonozaki

Megane just lowers his foot back to the ground, into a neutral stance, and stares back, trying to control his breathing. He raises an eyebrow slightly, when he sees her crashing her fists together. No way he is rushing into a challenge before he's ready for it. His eyes trace along her body briefly, reading her stance.
But he's not going to leave the challenge entirely unanswered. No, the answer is to bring the challenge to another level. This way, it doesn't look like he's nervous. So when he speaks up, he makes sure his voice sounds calm. "Tell me, Sonozaki, do you like to bet?"

COMBATSYS: Megane calculates his next move.

[              \\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\  < >  /////////////////////         ]
Megane           0/-------/=======|=======\===----\1         Sonozaki

Does she like to bet? She gambles with her life, every time she gets into a fight. But that's probably not the kind of answer he's looking for. "Don't fight because of the money, if that's what you're asking," she says, driving herself forward after that brief pause, boots pounding the cement as she builds up some speed--then unleashes a quick punch combination, firing off with a right hook to backfist, looking to punish either side of Megane's jaw--both sides, really--then following up -that- with a left uppercut, stepping in for that.

"But I gamble with my life, every time I fight." Okay, so she had to actually -say- it... it's almost required, isn't it? Admittedly the line does sound a little cheesy, especially talking about a schoolyard brawl, but she seems to take it seriously.

COMBATSYS: Megane dodges Sonozaki's Strong Punch.

Megane           0/-------/=======|=======\===----\1         Sonozaki

Megane steps backwards as she moves forwards, barely jerking his head out of the way of the various fist blows. He's really the kind of person who tries to *not* gamble with his life. "Mmm. No, neither do I. Money is incidental. But it's better than gambling with your life every time, going to lose that bet sooner or later, and you can't double up when you do."

"And money bets are too boring. It's not hard for someone with our level of fighting skill to get money." He steps back in, swings his own fist up, aiming for a simple gut-punch, although a lot of his weight and speed are behind it.

COMBATSYS: Megane successfully hits Sonozaki with Strong Punch.

Megane           0/-------/=======|=======\====---\1         Sonozaki

Her breath tries to go out again; only gritted teeth and force of will keep her from letting the gush of air out. "Not interested in gambling away other things..." Other things? Perhaps she's felt she's gambled something and lost already? Not money, obviously, as they've already discussed that--but then she closes her mouth, literally... and drives herself forward.

Staying close, she doesn't have far to go, reaching out to grab Megane by the shirt--and if she gets her grip, a burst of cold, sharp wind chi will aid her efforts as she hurls him up and away from her, a brief twister engulfing him--and Setsuna--as she grabs at him.

COMBATSYS: Megane interrupts Tornado Hold from Sonozaki with Flying Throw.

Megane           1/----===/=======|=======\=======\1         Sonozaki

Megane smiles slightly. "Understood. I won't ask again." He begins to open his mouth again, to say something else, but then she's already next to him, her hands moving towards him.
He grabs around Sonozaki's waist as she grabs onto his shirt, and leaps up into the air as she hurls him upwards, sending them both flying high into the air, her wind energy cutting into him. At the apex of the jumps, he flips them both over, then holds onto her as they plummet down towards the earth headfirst.

At the last possible moment, he lets go of her, but due to her hold on his shirt, he actually has to shove her away, and this screws up his usually smooth landing a bit, his blanket of wind chi smoothing it out for a second before he falls to the ground on his face.

She lands hard, but keeps her head mostly out of the way, tucking it in; after the impact, she rolls away and up to her feet. "Guess it's... just about time to get things finished up, huh?" she says, breathing hard; she, not out of kindness, but a need to clear her head, lets Megane get to his feet before setting herself up. Of course, the setup doesn't take long; she seems to almost draw back a bit...

And then she explodes forward, yelling, leading the way with a flying left. If that touches--well, then she's going to be pummeling Megane with fists, knees, and kicks, a veritable storm of punishment, designed not only to hurt but to stun; after the nearly eight seconds of solid striking, Setsuna will hop back and throw her right arm in an uppercut, twice, to seal the deal, with a pair of those windblades from earlier--only, much larger, nearly shoulder height.

This is, for all intents and purposes, likely to be her final go... she won't have much left in the tank after this, so to speak.

COMBATSYS: Sonozaki successfully hits Megane with Divine Storm.

Megane closes his eyes, slows his breathing, reading exactly where the attack will go. For a moment, it's almost like he's seeing the future. If he rushes in now, and meets her attack head on? He might be able to take her down with him. But he *knows* she'll take him out.

That's unacceptable. He opens his eyes, and throws up his arms and a gust of wind chi in a desperate defense - and her flying left breaks past his guard like it was paper mache. He's pummeled with a variety of physical hits that he isn't in the position to carefully analyze what is what. It's sort of a blur. And then, finally, he's uppercutted, and relaxes a bit as he sails up into the air - uppercuts usually signify the ends of attacks, right? Then two windblades slice through him, and he lets out a scream of pain.

He falls back down to the ground in front of her, and tries to get up, falls, and gets back at least to a kneeling position. "...finish up...." His broken glasses slide off his face, and he reaches up with a trembling hand that suddenly accelerates towards her throat.

COMBATSYS: Megane can no longer fight.

COMBATSYS: Sonozaki dodges Megane's Glasses Removal.

[                   \\\\\\\\\\\  <
Sonozaki         0/-------/---====|

Not today. Setsuna comes out of the whirl of attacks and stands there, breathing heavily--but when Megane reaches for her, she backsteps, keeping pace with him, but avoiding that grabbing hand. She's got him beat--she can tell--but he did a number on her, and she isn't confident she'd survive his 'last gasp'.

After that, she gives him a long look. "Thanks, Glasses. You were pretty good." She isn't sure he can hear her--but she'll say it anyways, because she wants to. Turning away, she walks back towards the school, because she still has to get her stuff before she can leave...

But it won't be 'til she's inside that she'll let the limp, the aches, show. Maybe not even then--maybe not until she's safely away from the school. She suspects that, like sharks, Gedo kids scent weakness and gather around it. She wants challenges, yes--but on terms she can control.

As she looks at him, Megane looks back at her, or through her, it's not entirely clear he's still aware of what's going on from his expression. "It's been... fun.... We'll-" His eyes roll up into the back of his head, and he collapses onto the pavement.

Hopefully Gedo kids are not that sharkish, or he's going to be an interesting situation when he wakes up. After all, they're basically good kids... right?
