Description: A new combatant enters the fighting world and finds that anticipating an opponents movements isn't the only key to victory. (Winner: Kaida)
The sun is beginning to set over Southtown, the high clouds turning brilliant shades of red and orange as the day comes to an end, giving the city skyline a beautiful look off in the distance. Despite the fact that you'd think everyone would flee their high school as soon as possible, Gedo High is swarming with activity, though only a few of the people present are students. Cameras are being set up everywhere in the courtyard as the Neo League prepares to record it's newest fight, a few students from the school gathering to see it go down, eager like everyone in this city to get a glimpse of two people beating each other up.
One of the opponents today is Kaida Inoue, a member of Taiyo High and someone whose last showing at the Neo League was so embarrassing that it's been a while since she's shown her face on it- and not merely because of her fighting performance. Hoping to set that behind her and, once again, start her fighting career anew she stands in one corner of the makeshift fighting arena drawing a cloth over her bokken, making sure they are clean and in perfect condition for the upcoming fight, her face impassive in a fairly focused way.
Since it's at his school, Megane has already been waiting a little while, leaning against the wall of the main building. The only change from his normal clothing is a simple metal bracer covering one forearm.
Seeing Kaida arrive, he pushes off the wall, and approaches her, holding out a hand as he gets close, presumably for a handshake. "Kaida Inoue, I presume. A pleasure to meet you in person." A slight smile on his face, and then he furrows his eyebrows slightly, as if noticing something, and adds more quietly, barely moving his lips so the cameras won't pick it up, "Are you feeling all right?"
Kaida looks up for a moment as Megane approaches her, looking back down to her bokken and putting what is apparently the finishing touches on cleaning it, sliding it into it's scabbard. She straightens a little and gives the taller fighter a nod as he speaks to her. She looks to his hand for a moment as he extends it towards her, pausing a moment before reaching forward and shaking it tentatively. "Thanks. You're Katsu Nakano, right? My opponent for today?" She withdraws her hand and crosses her arms lightly over her chest, nodding to him and looking a bit confused. "I'm fine. Don't worry, you'll get a good fight."
Megane's grip is firm, but not to the point of attempting to crush her hand. When their hands part, he lowers his arm back to his side, and nods slightly at her questions. He glances down at her arms crossing, then looks back to her eyes. "You just seem a bit uneasy."
Someone shouts, "Fight!"
It's unclear if it's a Gedo student or someone associated with the event, but Megane takes it as a signal, and straightens up slightly, raising the arm with the bracer on it to push his glasses back on his nose. "Why don't you start us off?"
Kaida's hand is somewhat strong due to needing a solid grip on her sword, but her handshake isn't that strong- it's clearly something she isn't used to doing. "Uneasy? A little, perhaps, but a fight is a fight." And then someone shouts Fight.
It's definitely an awkward moment for Kaida, seeing as she's standing there without either of her weapons drawn. Luckily Megane doesn't willing to jump her and try to smack her down while she's unarmed. "Alright," she replies, backing off a few steps and pulling out her paired bokken, one held in each hand. Unfortunately for the fighter opposite her she has no intention of starting off by attacking, which is probably what he intended. Instead she focuses herself inward, centering herself and preparing for the fight to come. A faint wind kicks up about her and white chi begins to glow in the air about her body, swirling in to her limbs as she visibly draws in energy from the world around her.

Megane smiles at this, and adjusts his sunglasses again, the sunlight gleaming off them. "So rather than taking an offensive stance, you choose to channel your chi...." He slowly lets out his breath, and wind swirls up around him, although without any glowy chi type effect, making his jacket flap in the wind and his hair become a little more messy. "An interesting technique, but I don't think you're using it for the strategic value. There's no need to feel self-conscious, there's nothing serious riding on this fight so far."

Kaida narrows her eyes a little as wind swirls around Megane, her stance shifting slowly. "I don't feel self conscious. Least of all about my fighting ability." She watches him for a moment, trying to figure out if he just did what she thinks he did. The glowing air about her dies down and she twists her swords around in her hands once, swinging them in front of herself immediately after, a bright blast of white energy leaping from them as she attacks. "Twin Moonlit Swords!"

Megane smirks. "I never said fighting ability, did I?"
His eyes widen as he sees the energy come towards him, but he wants to feel how strong it is. He slowly walks forwards through the energy, gritting his teeth as it cuts a swath through his t-shirt and skin. Still, once the swords are fully swung, they're for a moment lowered from her body. Which isn't exactly an opening, but is probably the closest he's going to get. He rushes forwards, holding his fist behind him, where it swirls with wind energy, propelling him forwards even faster, then swings it out in front of him as he reaches Kaida, aiming his fist at her chin.

The smirking comment gets a slight frown from Kaida. She looks somewhat off put as he powers through the twin energy blasts, obviously not having expected him to pull of something like that. The quick burst of speed after he clears them is completely expected after that- it'd be stupid to just let the chi hit him and then play for range. So the green haired swordfighter backs off several steps. As the solitary punch is made she brings both of her swords up in front of herself, the first one taking much of the force of the punch while the second neatly pushes it to the side, effectively making him miss by the slightest amount.
From there she steps forward, starting to move him, and turns, the sword she blocked with first swinging in quickly to try and smack his outstretched arm on the elbow, her second one lashing out after and aiming for his shoulder, whereupon the first cuts in low to try and strike him in the side. A few more strikes come out as well, each one timed to hit so that the other is held back for defence, Kaida backing off away from him now.

Megane's eyes narrow as his attack is entirely blocked, and he's taken back for a moment. And then his arm is smacked on the elbow. He lowers his arm to protect his side - this is the one with the bracer, after all - and is hit in the shoulder. Rising blows... he quickly raises his arm to protect his head, and is hit in the side. He stumbles a bit, gasping, his eyes wide.
As she backs away, he straightens up. "...Are you reading my moves?" He smiles faintly, as he slowly follows after her, watching her more closely. "Well, it seems like I'm going to have to get more serious." He raises his arm to adjust his glasses, smile widening. "You see, you're acting on reaction, while I'm reading your entire style based on prediction. I may have a few errors at first, but once I'm inside your mind, you'll have nowhere left to run."

Kaida raises an eyebrow at his question. "It isn't exactly hard to read someone when they charge at you like that." As he follows and studies her she continues to back off slowly. His words cause her to frown a little again. "If you're going to get in my head you'd better do it fast. You can't afford to let me get much more of an unanswered advantage." She shakes her head a little and then quickly twirls one wooden sword and slides it into it's scabbard, her backward pace suddenly reverses as she launches herself forward, sending a quick doublehanded swing across Megane's body as she tries to run past him. "Yah!"

Megane opens his eyes, and raises his hand, releasing a huge gale of wind. "And now, you're going to rush back towards me to attack me with an UGH-" And he realizes that Kaida just went to his side, instead of straight on, as her bokken hits into him.
He grimaces, just standing there for a moment as he recovers, then turns around to face her, his composure smooth except his heavy breathing and the slightly glazed look in his eyes. "Well. It seems like you have an advantage here, Kaida. But I'm feeling lucky today." He pushes his glasses back onto the bridge of his nose. "Would you like to make a bet on the winner of this match?"
Kaida holds her sword out in front of herself, blade facing towards Megane. That blast of wind looked like it could have hurt- good thing it missed. "Bet? No, I don't have any reason to bet with you." She frowns a little, so far having seen nothing from him but promises of skill and being able to read her that haven't panned out in the slightest. "All I want from you is a good fight." She leaps at him then, jumping forward and lifting her sword high above her head before bringing it down in a single hard stroke, aiming for his right shoulder, near his neck. "Haah!"

Megane raises his arm to block his sword in the actual right direction this time, but perhaps due to being repeatedly hit with a sword, he can't do so quite as quickly as he might like to, and he's knocked practically to his knees, wobbling there for a moment. His face has developed a slight blush, perhaps from his repeated failures to do anything at all.
His hand grabs at Kaida's arm, and he turns as he falls to his knees, trying to salvage his downward momentum into a throw as he knocks his leg back against hers.

Kaida recovers from her strike quickly enough since she found her target, following through and then raising the weapon up again. As Megane reaches for her her eyes narrow her arms pulling back. Her sword flares with a brilliant white energy and she prepares to hit him with a very powerful underhanded swing, "Unstoppable Bl- aaah!" As she swings her arms forward to strike, his leg hits hers and she loses her balance, her own motions flipping her over so that she lands painfully on her back, letting out a sharp gasp.
She rolls to the side a couple of times and then picks herself up, quick to recover despite the toss, still rather fresh. "Good. I was hoping I was doing well and you weren't just incompetent. But if you couldn't fight you probably wouldn't be standing after those hits, would you?"
Megane smiles a bit, and says quietly, "Well, it's my own fault for bringing a bracer to a sword fight... but I think you'd still be winning if I had brought a sword." He doesn't move his lips much that time, he doesn't want the cameras picking that up, either. He rushes towards her again, putting his fist behind him, wind beginning to make his jacket swirl erratically... and then suddenly falls into a crouch when he gets near her, placing his hands on the ground and spinning to aim a kick at her stomach.

Kaida raises an eyebrow at Megane as his lips barely move as he speaks. Guessing the reason she looks about the area a little. "They have microphones here too, you know? Seems like you're the self-conscious one here to me." Her banter is cut off as he rushes towards her in the same manner as before, the green haired fighter backing off yet again. She blinks when he suddenly drops down, jumping backwards quickly, his foot sailing in front of her. Immediately after it passes her by she rushes forward, trying to get to him before he straightens back up, hoping to wrap her arms around his body while he's forward and then throw her weight backwards to lift him up and then slam him backwards onto the ground, grunting with exertion as she goes.

Megane smiles as she jumps back. "Microphone technology isn't that great. The only one that's that accurate enough to pick that up is the one they put on me. They can't pick up much over a bit of wind, if it's blowing the right way." This he's willing to say openly.
And then she rushes back in, and he blinks, and tries to roll sideways, but once again, Kaida is too fast, and he's is slammed backwards into the ground. He just kinda lies there for a second, staring up at the sky. "That... wasn't in my calculations."
But if she's in this range, he figures she won't be able to use those swords to any real effect. He attempts to wrap his legs around her neck while she's still within range, and thus tries to choke the life out of her and keep her in place while he figures out what to do.

Kaida reaches for her second sword as she starts to stand up, caught off guard as he tries to wrap his legs around her neck. He manages to get his hold for a brief moment, but reacting quickly she shoves her bokken up along the back of her neck and pries them against each other, forcing his legs open just enough so she can yank her head down and out of the hold. She stumbles back, coughing a little, and rubs at her neck slightly. "Close... I should have expected that kind of retaliation."
Shaking her head at herself she takes a quick breath and refocuses. Gripping her swords firmly she starts to move around Megane slowly, making several quick stabs towards him with the tips of her bokken to probe his defenses. Eventually one of them is a more earnest jab, which is quickly followed by an overhead swat with the other sword.

Megane fends off the jabs of her bokken with his palm, knocking the tip of the sword to the side as she comes at him. He raises his bracer at an angle at her sword comes down at his head, knocking it off to one side. He shakes his hand a little, eyebrows furrowed - blocking wood with flesh is not, in fact, the ideal strategy.
He takes a deep breath, the wind beginning to rise around him like it did at the start of the fight, and, raising both hands, unleashes a huge blast of wind towards Kaida, with dozens of translucent cutting energy blades.

Kaida takes a step backwards as her swords are knocked away. Her eyes widen as wind begins to intensify around him, sensing the build up of energy itself as well. She quickly puts away her offhand sword, taking a deep breath. "Grand Refusal..." She grips the bokken by the end, where the hilt would be on a normal sword, and twists it around expertly in a perfect circle. "Moon's Punishment!" a thin hemisphere of energy flares into existence in front of her, the wind that shoots forward from Megane battering into it. But rather than just breaking around the it harmlessly each blade hits it and rebounds, bouncing off of it and streaking right back at their creator.

Well... Megane certainly didn't see that coming. He blinks, and raises his hands, a huge wall of wind suddenly coming up from nowhere to block the blades. Unfortunately, although a few are slowed, most blades just cut right back through to their creator, tearing the wall to shreds. He shakes his head a bit. "Let's try that one more time." He raises his hands, and an identical gale blasts out, dozens of translucent blades flying through the air towards Kaida once again, with almost the same degree of precision.

Kaida lets out her deep breath as a sigh of relief as she survives the onslaught, looking perplexed for a moment as the wall of wind appears in front of Megane, wondering for a moment if the wind blades are going to get knocked right back towards her again. Instead they cut through it and hack into the black haired fighter, and she nods a little.
Thinking he's got to be on his last legs now she's more than just a little surprised when he looks to weather it easily enough. "You've got to be kidding," she mutters to herself when he assaults her again. She lowers her sword and pulls it back behind herself somewhat, quickly spinning around and lifting it upward, the weapon corkscrewing through the air and smacking a large amount of wind blades along the way, many of which end up nullifying others heading in her direction, though a good amount end up shooting right back at Megane yet again. "If you think you can try the same thing on me twice in a row, you're wrong. Especially when I dealt with it just fine the first time."
Megane doesn't answer, as though his eyes are open and he's staring in Kaida's direction, he's already out cold. The beginning of the wind blast starts to knock him entirely, and he's slashed by several of the blades, which stops him from falling over for a moment as they cut into him, but then he falls to the ground.
Kaida gives a final sort of nod as Megane is hit by the blades of wind and falls over, spinning her bokken around with a flourish and slipping it into it's sheath. "That was fun. Even if I got the better of him it was quite a challenge. I just wish he'd have kept the pressure up from the beginning."
