Description: Daniel is sent to try and drag 'errant student' Zach back to the Todoh Ryu dojo to learn the 'way to use proper chi' and not that 'glittery crap the kids are using these days.' The results are fairly predictable.
Master Todoh was very clear to Daniel Jack. His disappointment in his dedication to the masterful way of Todoh was momumentally high. Ryuhaku nearly bopped him on the head with his fan out of the anger. By comparing the detective to Roland, however, simply made the man weep passionate tears of shame. It was very fortunate for Daniel that Master Todoh did not know about the little girl that beat him up in front of the Dojo. In order to redeem himself, however, the private eye had to perform... a dojo mission.
Dojo missions were an alien but uniformly awesome concept to Daniel Jack. It was like in those old Kung Fu movies. The detective slipped inside the lobby of the Young Fighters' Community Center quietly. The location not too new to him; he had learned about the site from some of the Gedo contacts in somewhat spiteful terms. He was surprised by the activity, to be honest. It seemed like a thriving, open activity center.
The man steps towards the information desk at an actually fanciful, spinning pace. The detective was scanning the activity of the room, taking in the field work. Finally, he reaches the desk. Leaning an elbow on the countertop, he looks away from the receptionist, still scanning the room. Finally, Daniel Jack pipes up, looking over at the person with a cold look over his face.
"I'm looking for a a Zach Glen. Is he stomping solid here, you dig?"
The receptionist, a young girl, looks up from her algebra homework to peer at Daniel before scooting back in her rolling chair. She blinks once or twice at the... loudly dressed man, and quietly points a finger towards the library. Daniel might follow the direction of the young lady's pointer finger to find a purple haired young man wearing street clothes and a Terry Bogard-style ballcap wheeling a mop bucket towards the restrooms.
The young janitor looks up, getting that odd feeling one gets when people are talking about you without you being part of the conversation, and peers at Daniel with emerald green eyes. He looks a bit confused at the moment.
Zach Glen. His name was important to Master Todoh, and by proxy, Daniel Jack. The man drew the ire from Ryuhaku Todoh over a minor, possibly impossibly small incident. But important. For Zach did something unspeakable to the Dojo's honor.
He stole their signature technique.
Ka-Psi-Ate, while cleverly concealed with a psi instead of K, was cut through by the genius of Todoh. Daniel Jack gave the receptionist a salute, and turned to the... dye job. A janitor? Daniel thought he was supposed to be some teacher here, educating the children with stolen Kasane Ate secrets. Oh well. Maybe he was one of those idiot savants.
The detective walks overs to Zach, visually unfazed by the individuals unusual appearence. The man... boy stares back with alien eyes. The guy was like one of those kung fu villains, it was really swanky. A kung fu detective. Hot DAMN! Daniel Jack approached the boy at a steady pace, shoulders hunched. He kept walking towards him, and when he finally reached him... he walked past him, heading towards the library. He stopped suddenly. Without looking back, he stated very grimly under his breath, just loud enough for Zach to hear.
"Scuzzy. Meet me in the library. We need to talk."
With that, the detective stepped into the library, not turning back to see if he was followed.
If by "steal" one meant "got hit by it enough that he learned how to make a reasonable imitation of it", then sure. Zach stole the Kasane Ate, and called his imitation the Ka-Psi-Ne Ate. But that's all a matter of perspective, one supposes.
Zach glances over his shoulder at the taller man, his eyes narrowed. He considers for a moment, somewhat concerned about detectives demeanor before returning the direction of his stare towards the restrooms he was about to mop. He keeps his voice low as well, so as not to be overheard. He'd like to avoid spectators, at least for a moment. "How about we go outside," Zach says evenly, "I just finished cleaning in there."
Daniel stops inside the library. Outside. Yes, that would work as well. The detective cracks his knuckles as he turns around, hands dug deep in his pockets. "Real cool, scuzzy, real cool." The detective walked through the lobby, not looking at any of the students. Yeah, NOW he was being somewhat more suspicious. Hopefully, that wouldn't draw too much of a crowd. Daniel Jack had his own way he wanted to handle this. Stepping outside, he could think of the one word to describe the Todoh Way of Handling This.
Discreetly.
Yeah. Todoh and discreet have no business being in the same /book/ as one another. Unless, of course, said book is a dictionary. But that is beside the point. Zach frowns a bit as he wheels the bucket into a cleaning closet.
"Megumi," Zach says pleasantly, "Tell everyone to stay off the ball diamonds untill I get back, okay?" The girl pales slightly as she nods. She's seen some of Zach's fights. They tend to make a mess.
Zach leads Daniel out to the baseball diamonds in the back, well away from the building proper. Glen walks up to the pitcher's mound, a comfortable place for him, one of practice and meditation in his routines. He turns and eyes Daniel. "Okay," Zach says. "Who sent you, and why?" he asks seriously. He's a fighter, and gaining a realization of what that means. He understands, intimately now, that grudges come with the territory.
Daniel Jack walks out to the baseball field. Not a bad location. This kind of stuff was really good for the community. Especially with all the criminals about. This was a purely rival thing, but Daniel had an angle. He always had an angle. Zach may not know about the detective, but he would learn about the kind of man he was very soon.
When Zach speaks, the detective doesn't react. He just stares cooly at the boy. And then, he opens his mouth, talking in a terse tone while sticking his hand out... for a shake. "Be cool, man, be cool. The name's Daniel Jack. I'm a private investigator, and a student of Todoh-Ryuu Kobojutsu. Master Todoh gave me the slick to talk turkey with you nature with the blue-haired she-witch, and your Kasane Ate jack, you dig?" The detective looked down at his hand for a moment, then right back at Zach.
Zach folds his arms across his chest as the tilts his head to one side. An eyebrow goes up as he mouths the words 'blue-haired she-witch,' a confused look crossing his face. He looks thoughtful for a moment, before deciding to tackle the issue he can figure out.
"Old Man Todoh sent you," Zach says carefully. "And that move is the only useful thing I've gotten out of his stalking me. What of it?"
There is a sharp crack as Daniel Jack closes his hand. So this is going to be like that. Daniel Jack attempted to gauge Zach based on his manners. Looks like being diplomatic wasn't going to go well.
Gritting his teeth, the detective withdraws his hand, and places it right back in his pants pocket. He speaks with a more intense tone, obviously choking back offense. "Well, DYEJOB, lets keep it straight, dig it? You've made waffles out of the Todoh-Ryuu Kobojutsu art. Jacking knowledge is a sin, but here is the line: Quit it." The detective suddenly winks at the boy. "So what is going down is that we spar. You know, classic style. You dig it? You win, you keep using it. You lose, and you change it up into something different. Fair enough, scuzzy?" Daniel Jack bares his teeth, forming what could be considered a very horrifying smile.
"Dyejob? How I WISH this was a dyejob," Zach mutters darkly as he slides into a loose fighting stance. "I get the impression that you're not about to back down on this," Zach says simply. "Birds of a feather and all that."
Purple energy that has nothing to do with chi ripples around the shorter fighter. "So how about we just do this thing." Zach frowns. Kids are pressing up against windows, trying to get a good vantage point to watch the fight.

Daniel Jack nods slowly, his grin reverting back into a frigid grimace. "Fair enough, scuzzy. Faaaaaaaaair enough." The private eye whips his hands out from his pants, loosening them up with some standard flaps. Snapping to his sides, he bows to Zach, giving him a sense of personal respect. Internally, he was looking forward to actually fighting for Dojo reasons. After the bow, he eases into position, assuming the defensive stance taught to him by both Master and Mistress Todoh. One hand forward, another hand behind it. One leg forward, one leg back. Shoulder length. Pointing his own fingers forward at Zach, the student of Todoh was ready to fight.
"So you too danced with chi, Dyejob." The detective began, eyeing the purple energy. Yeah, he completely ignored Zach there. "I guess Master Todoh did teach you well. Most decent, you dig? Now, lets do this standard. Follow my lead, got it?" The detective snapped a hand high above him, easing it into a position with a quivering, tense arm. Hooking his finger, he watched Zach with the same icy demeanor. A small glow of orange energy began to manifest as the detective focused hard. "KASANE... ATE!" He snapped, swiping the arm down towards Zach rapidly. The blob shoots towards the Psycho user at surprising speed, but disappointing stability. It seems to already be dissipating before it hit the ground, being some sort of... inferior Kasane Ate.
Show him how it is done, Zach.

Zach recognizes the movement; he's 'one-handed' his variant on the Kasane Ate before. Zach's response is surprisingly in-kind. He brings up both hands, and summons his own energies into focus.
Zach's form, however, is more precise, almost more traditional in its way. Zach snaps both hands forward, sending the psycho powered sheets forward. "KASANE ATE!" Zach's attackl blasts through Daniel's construct on their way down. Some of the energy survives the encounter, however, slapping against Zach's chest weakly.
Well. OUCH. Daniel Jack sort of had the mental image of a sort of cheap Taiwanese knockoff of Kasane Ate. When his rapid Kasane Ate is unleashed, however, he literally yelps when the sheets of Ka-Psi-Ate rips through his own blob. The detective lands on his rear end with a audible wince, ripping his chest tightly. Then, smacking it a few times. Boy howdy, there was that numbing feeling again. Just like the little girl. Was this some sort of secret school art? He would need to investigate it at a later time. For now, the focus.
But remember, composure.
The student of Todoh rises up again with a grunt, still rubbing his chest. With a bit of flourish, he adjusts his body into position. Rolling his fingers a bit, he nods once at Zach, a bit of fire dancing behind those rose shades. "Impressive, scuzzy! Kasane Ate is easy to use, isn't it? Okay, decent breaker, decent breaker. Now, try me. You might get out of this, scuzzy, you might yet, you dig?" The detective watches with steady eyes, scanning and analyzing the movements of his purple-haired opponent. Just think as if it was Kasumi, or Ryuhaku. Um. He looked more like a Kasumi. Especially with those eyes. So deep.
COMBATSYS: Daniel focuses on his next action.

Zach scowls. He had figured that if Todoh was going to send a leg-breaker at him, the guy would be, well.. tougher than this. Then again, this /is/ Todoh we're talking about. Anything could happen.
Zach considers for a moment as Daniel weighs his options. This waiting thing... it's not for Zach. Glen blitzes forward, driving an open hand forward. The limb falls short of the taller man, but it heralds something else entirely:
A wide band of psychic energy that slashes into existance in order to slam into Daniel's chest!

Well, Daniel Jack proved at least ONE thing.
He could Kasane Ate with the best of them.
The detective watches the purple-hair man bum rush him like a lunatic. Daniel Jack raises both of his hands this time in response. If Zach was going through with his attack, well, Daniel Jack would just pull the same sheet trick as him. The detective hurls down a wave of bright orange energy, launching it upwards with an explosive wave of energy.
This WORKS at first.
However, the wide band of energy that was whipping out did not fill the man with confidence. He would go so far to say that in the end, he was the one getting the beating. But as his Kasane Ate cuts through the band, the energy seems to break apart a bit. As the Kasane Ate explodes upwards in a wave, the Psycho energy was hitting the detective with a softer shotgun blast than a full on carpet bombing. Staggering back, he felt his entire body go numb for a moment, his vision blacking out for just a second. It returns in time for Daniel to react to Zach's next strike, but it was becoming very clear to the detective that there was a reason why this man was considered a danger to Todoh.
Zach is just plain dangerousp; he packs way more power than a fighter of his level has any business having. The Kasane Ate slams into Zach's chest, bringing about that familiar burning feeling. Glen doesn't feel his shirt sticking to his chest yet. That's a good sign; he's not bleeding.
Zach does stagger back a couple of paces though, watching Daniel carefully. "That can't be all you have, man," Zach sas reprovingly. That said, Zach charges forward once more, violet energy rippling around his shoulders before resolving into a pair of metallic-looking shoulder pads. Zach simply drives one of these into Daniel's sternum with explosive force!

Daniel Jack nods firmly at the challenge against his talents. "Believe me, scuzzy. I've got enough up my sleeve. Watch it, and before you know it..." The detective stops short the moment when Zach manifests those... shoulder pads. That completely unnerves him. It was like fighting Sei all over again; these Chi masters were really something beyond what Daniel understands. This proves very crucial when Zach shoots forward with a tackle.
Daniel snaps to position, bringing his arms over to not only catch Zach, but to toss him to the ground. The Kasumi Style. It would have been perfect, too, if it wasn't for a small problem involving the pads. As he clutches Zach closer to him, the pads explode in his chest... and on his concealed firearm.
There is a series of gunshots as Daniel sails through the air, crumpling across the dust and into the far batting cages. Five to be exact. The rubber bullets, while not lethal, did complicate matters with their misfires down across the groin, abdomen, and pelvic of Daniel. The impact did not help either. In fact, something was wrong with Daniel.
The funny gurgling, for starters, as blood leaks out of the corner of his mouth.
Zach trots to a stop after running past Daniel. He hears the gunshots, and his eyes go wide. Zach gives a gasp as he runs towards the fallen Todoh student. He looks up, and as he suspected some of them have gone for cover. One or two of them come out to try and do something.
Zach barks some orders, and the taller youth heads for the infirmary. Meanwhile, Zach tries to raise Daniel's head. A knee-jerk reaction for shock prevention.
COMBATSYS: Zach has ended the fight here.
