Diana - YFCC - Anger

Description: Never leave enough alone. That's a good motto. When something goes wrong, you have to face it immediately. It's not good enough letting those in charge take care of it. Sometimes you have to take things into your own hands. Just have to be sure it doesn't slip through them. Hey, when you're angry, you have to let it out. Sometimes it's just the wrong person.

Gosh, it's late. Without a doubt, at this hour the YFCC usually doesn't have many people in it; on the weekends even the real hardcore types have social stuff or homework to do. But tonight, tonight is something different. Most of the center is dark, lit only by the low orange glow of the evening anti-theft lights in the ceiling. The exception is the cafeteria, which doesn't have the high overhead flourescent lights on, but also candles on the tables. People are drinking soda and clapping, and up near the food line there's a little impromptu stage. Why?

It's poetry slam.

Literally.

A little competition that Frei encouraged when he found there were a few people who wanted to do something fun. He set it up, and thus he's the person here late at night. Inspired by an SNF that Frei himself took part in once, the students of the YFCC who were interested are currently up on stage, sparring... but the condition is that each must poetically describe their action as they take it. Case in point: an expert in Judo from Pacific High, a tiny Indian girl, is bodyslamming a beefy Taiyo boy while her voice lilts out through the speakers, "Firmly as the many arms of Shiva, I brought the ox to his destruction upon the floor!" And then she did so. Wham.

There's applause. In deference to the nature of the event, Frei also served Ritz crackers... and brie.

The only identifiable adult in the room, the monk sits at the back, clapping and cheering. He only needs to be here to see nobody's hurt or injured; a volunteer from Seijyun is playing MC, and so far everyone's getting along nicely.

What could go wrong?

Of course.. Frei couldn't keep watch over every single entrance.. and sometimes things filter in.

With Frei sitting in the back, he'd still have an eye view of the stage.. and it's not until the two on the stage move ..one defeated, the tiny Indian girl defeating the beefy Taiyo boy, that the 'next up' isn't according to plans. The music still plays, the lights, candles and the light glow of the lights... but the sounds on the stage are that of heavy boots, and the sight of the one walking onto it, into the middle.. she's far taller than most of the students, and on top of that, she doesn't look quite young.

Her dark blue hair in the light looks like it's puffed out and up, and her clothing, what large amount of it is covers very little, her stomach, arms, and legs, bare for the most part. But before anyone can call to attention this problem, the woman starts, speaking in theme.

"Lies spew forth like a river from a mechanical mouth, side-burns surround them." She stops for a moment, beginning another verse. "False flames burn from a white haired man, and in turn, cause a little one to doubt herself." She takes another breathe. "And you look up to them. Where the hell are either of them?!" She breaks at the third verse, it becoming clear she's not waiting for anyone to come up and 'slam' with her in this poetry slam, a blade sliding from under her heavy 'skirt', and pointing outwards.

Diana may have only heard the last words of Maxima's speech to Kula, but the sight she saw from the night before was enough to tell her of what may have been said, or may have been done. She's highly protective of Kula, on top of simply believing in what Igniz says.. these children, the ones that believe in Maxima and K'... look up to them.

It's sickening. How can they help humanity when they're still being plagued with role models like those?

The Amazon thus came to the heart, and came to find .. nothing. Nothing but these children and .. hmmm? Someone's in the back.

The tirade ends. What prevails in its wake?

Feedback.

The poor girl from Taiyo who'd been MCing was about to step up and congratulate the winner (and announce the next contestants) when Diana just, well... appeared. NESTS technology at its finest causing a schoolgirl to give a really stereotypical and classic "IYAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA~!" while she recoils a few steps. The problem is she drops the mic, which clatters across the floor before rolling over to the speakers. The result is a series of loud clutters from the speakers, followed by an ear-piercing *SCREEEEEEE* sound.

And yes, there WAS someone in the back. Needless to say, he's not in the back anymore.

The various YFCC regulars, who are in varying degrees of super-exaggerated physical poses on the rebound from the mic screech, seem to be reassured as Frei walks up toward the stage, all pleasant and serene. If he's not worried, they're not worried. Maybe she's an exhibition match? Something like that.

As it is, Frei's not a fool; mention 'sideburns' and 'white hair' and 'flames' together, he knows she's not talking about Mizuki and Hotaru. Of course, the monk has his own suspicions about K' and Maxima even if they seem like perfectly decent guys in his experience... though K' has the 'damaged goods' label. Folding his hands behind his back, the monk stops at the edge of the stage and looks up at Diana, smiling peacefully. "A little salty for haiku, but not bad. Can I help you?"

So she has a penchant for moving fast, and sometimes .. just appearing. Diana isn't interested in wasting time with appearances, or entrances. Not when there's things to be done. The Amazon hates beating around the bush when it comes to important things.. and there isn't a thing more important than Kula to her at the moment.

Beyond the dream.. but Kula is part of it, when she won't need to fight anymore, either. For now.. she can only help her, make what she needs to do a bit easier.

She winces as the scream, but otherwise just looks disappointed in the girl. Yeah, just be scared of someone appearing. Great way to continue to look weak so big strong men can save you! And speaking of that, as Frei slides forwards, walking to the front, Diana catches him. And he simply smiles, looking towards her and smiling peacefully. "Sure. I got an idea."

She steps forwards, before helping herself to the refreshments.. picking up some of that orange juice, and walking over to Frei, blue garments trailing as she whirls around before just tossing the juice towards Frei, and spiking the cup it was held in right at him.

"Cut the crap and get to telling me about those two." Why'd he deserve that? Well, he wasn't a jock or the like. Far from it. He's just acting like nothings wrong. Oh. There's alot of things, and she's already got to her bad side, the blade raising to point at him after the orange juice incident.

She's not going to hurt the kids. They just need to have someone better to look up to than those two. While she may not be the best herself, she's still got a few goals.

Now, if his reaction time were a little better, he COULD have caught that cup. Anyone who's seen Frei fight knows that while his offense may have some gaps in it, his *defense* borders on the supernatural. But Diana has a point to make, AND she catches him by surprise. Plus, it's nicely dramatic, and Frei appreciates nicely dramatic. Thus the plastic cup rebounds off his forehead with the crinkling sound of cheap plastic cups impacting on anything more solid than a dust bunny, releasing its payload of OJ right into Frei's face before clapping forlornly to the ground. At least now Frei's pores won't suffer from scurvy.

This also gets a predictable intake of air from the crowd, the "hwuh!" gasp of 'oh no she dih'nt!', while Frei blinks a couple times, then picks a napkin up off the table next to him. He seems more confused than hurt, but the participants his this poetry 'slam' are opting for more poetry and less slam; vis. they are heading AWAY from the two people at the front of the room.

Dabbing at his face with the napkin, mouth open in either shock or the need to extend surface area for cleaning, he nevertheless glances up at Diana's naked rapier and tilts his head a bit. "They're not here," he says simply. "We're usually closed up at this hour. I could take a message, if you like. And..." Here he pauses, glancing up at the blade. Making this point is going to get him in trouble, but... since when has Frei ever avoided trouble?

"You shouldn't draw a weapon unless you plan to use it."

As the others move away, Diana doesn't worry about the children. They're getting out of the way, and that's what's important. Frei just stands there, and only after a few blinks, manages to dry himself a bit. To her, Frei either seems slow.. or just is trying to keep turning it down from what it just might be. It's closed at this hour, but not today? Why does she care. He's delaying it.

And then he mentions a message, the monk going even farther to mention about drawing a weapon. She doesn't take a step back. She doesn't really move as he mentions his probably flaw filled belief. Unless you plan to use it.. and a message? Oh the irony. The Amazon smirks a bit, shaking her head. Who does he think she is? Probably some rather crazed woman. What could she possibly be talking about.

He'll known simply.. he'll be sure to know, and pass on the message. She's certain of what she needs to do here. "The weapon is part of the message." She comments, the butterfly handle being pressed forwards, the blade bending a bit against Frei, but not piercing.

"What I'll do with it .. is going to be the other half."

And with that.. the researcher presses the blade harder and harder, attempting to simply break the skin of Frei, and draw first blood. It's not meant to wound. Not yet.

The poking of the rapier doesn't actually seem to bother Frei much, perhaps to Diana's chagrin; after all, he comes from a line of swordsmen even if he doesn't do that sort of thing himself anymore. If she really wanted to drive the point home, pardon the pun, she could do so with or without hurting him. It does, however, tell the monk a good deal about Diana's level of expertise, which must be quite high. "Well... that is a specific kind of message, isn't it?" He seems calm enough; perhaps he really is too stupid to understand what's going on.

However, when Diana starts pressing the blade toward him, attempting to do actual harm, he doesn't just stand idly by for it. Shaking out his right hand, he looks up at Diana, emerald gaze clear. He LOOKS pleasant, even though his voice is serious; it's either comical or unnerving, depending on your point of view. "I guess I'll have to give a message back to you on their behalf, though I don't really like speaking for others."

Then, he grips the blade. The reason he shook out his hand is because it is suddenly charged with a flicker of violet lightning, which is carried INTO the metal blade even as the monk grips it and, succinctly, shoves back, both pushing the blade away from himself and likely giving Diana a little shove as well. He winces, and his palm drips red once he removes his hand, but he doesn't seem overly concerned. "I think they'd agree with my interpretation, though."

She's actually rather surprised when the blade is pressed.. that he grips the blade, a flicker of violet lightning carried into the blade, and pushed back, the strike causing her to wince a bit. Not particularly what she wanted to have the message be stated by, but she had apparently taken a .. poor choice at least, swearing to herself. Perhaps she should have picked a better way to get the message across.

Bumping into the table, she holds the blade up still, listening to the monk. Oh, words. Great. More of them come towards her. Oh it's a specific kind of message? Oh I'll just give it back! I'm such a happy gentleman!

"You're just a charming gentleman aren't you." She says with a bit of a glare, the blade still out, pointing at him, trying to keep him at arms length. "Talk, talk. Talk. All talk." The Amazon tends to make due without such words, generally letting her posture or her actions do things for her.

Right now, despite the burn a bit, she's glaring a bit, with a grit to her teeth and the sword up. It's not hard to realize what she's focused on, but in the darkness.. she begins to pinpoint this and that on Frei, paying attention to his stance, and apparently, his defenses now as well.

Everyone has a weakness.

COMBATSYS: Diana focuses on her next action.

"It's a useful way of communicating information," the monk says simply, watching Diana carefully. The candlelight is kind to his youthful features, highlighting the freckles at the top of his cheeks, but it's not exactly good for fighting in. The monk allows himself a moment's distraction as he looks around to make sure the kids have all left, and they have... at least as far as the lobby, where they're gathered to watch. There's an almost imperceptible nod as he confirms that's safe enough, and then his attention's back to Diana.

"Of course," he continues, circling to his left a little bit, keeping his eyes not on the blade, but on Diana's face. After all, it's the lady who controls the sword, not the other way around. If he can guess where SHE'S going to go next, the blade should obviously follow. Right? "Of course, your method has its benefits too. People might forget words, but they don't forget... other things."

Deciding to prove that statement true, Frei gauges the distance carefully, then takes a few steps at Diana before giving a short hopping turn and lashing out at her shoulder with a simple but effective upper kick... of course, as is typical for Frei, the kick is also surrounded in a halo of scarlet chi flame, as well.

As the foot lashes out towards Diana, she tries to leap out of the way .. but unfortunately, the strike is also bathed in a scarlet chi flame, which connects with her as she slides. Causing her nearly to topple out of the way, crashing into a table before she launches off of it, patting some of the flames of the candle out and leaping back to the floor. Growling a bit, it seems she just can't get a break quite yet.

Not even responding to him in words, Diana isn't interested in prattle beyond someone who has one of those 'holier than thou' attitudes towards her. "Oh shut up." She finally says, breaking it, barking at him. Leaping back, she bursts into motion after the flip, growing closer to Frei, aiming to close the gap between him and her.. the blade held out forwards, attempting to simply drive into him.

If it gets anywhere close, she's going to say the rest.

"I'm doing this for a reason far better than anything you have for holing up with these kids in a room and watching them beat the hell out of each other."

But then, she's trying to drive a blade straight into him anyways. There's not many good things to be said of that.

COMBATSYS: Frei blocks Diana's Deep Strike.

Frei             0/-------/----===|====---\-------\0            Diana

Bare flesh against a naked blade is never a good combination if the person without a weapon is on the defensive. Case in point: as Diana rushes him with that rapier, Frei doesn't want to take any chances; he's aware of his limited foot speed and Diana's apparent pinpoint accuracy. Thus he brings a forearm up and turns it outward, pushing out against the strike intended for the rest of him and shoving it back... but not without some cost, the sword cutting a line of red along Frei's arm as he does so.

Sucking in a sharp breath from the pain, the monk nevertheless shakes it off and holds his ground, letting Diana do the talking for now. After all, she's the one with the 'message'... the meaning of which has been made at least partially clear by her actions. "I'm here to make sure they don't hurt each other or themselves, that's all," Frei says simply, and it's the truth. This wasn't his idea, he's just the chaperone. "Though I admit, I don't know how 'noble' a fighting poetry slam is..."

Standing his ground, Frei closes his eyes for a moment, taking a deep breath, and then opens them, breathing out again. There's no supervisible lightshow, but the monk's unruly red hair suddenly blows about a bit, as if he were facing into a light spring breeze. "But if you want to tell me about your goals, I'm willing to listen."

COMBATSYS: Frei gathers his will.

With Frei preventing the assault, the blade sliding along his arms, Diana wasn't honestly surprised to a point. He seems to have defenses. Just great, she thinks instead, before leaping back, as he sucks in a breath. Oh, sure. Here to help the kids, etc.

She doesn't buy any of it, and as he actually takes time to stand his ground, Diana growls a bit more. This wasn't what she had hoped for, and with him simple standing there, what he could do, she sort of realizes. There's just not much to say about it.

As Frei actually asks her, Diana's only response is "Tch." She's got nothing to say to Frei, and she's said what she has wanted. She doesn't open up to many, and it doesn't seem like Frei is going to make her say anything.

Oh, she has loads to say.

She's just not interested in wasting her time saying it to a self believed gentleman. She doesn't need his 'introspect' and doesn't care for it either.

The assault happens to be a heavy slash as she dashes in, starting low before slicing upwards, the blade doing a wide swipe, attempting to drag the tip against the man.

Not the talkative type, huh? Well, Diana's blade says enough, and Frei's choice in dealing with it helps deliver the message pretty clearly. Rather than get another cut on the arm for his trouble, he simply dives INTO the attack, face contorting in pain as the tip of the rapier moves up his body, slicing open the top layer of his shirt and drawing a line of red. Thankfully, at least, she didn't carve a 'D' into him or something creepy like that.

Problematically, however, the attack doesn't send Frei reeling into the distance in pain; rather curiously, it doesn't move him at all. "Ngh... that's gonna leave a mark," he murmurs, before delivering his counterattack: lunging for Diana, he seeks to grab her around the extended sword arm and then slam her into the ground with a shoulder throw, a whistling burst of wind not only accompanying the attack but also giving it extra power and carrying force. "If you aren't going to tell me why you're here, why should I deliver your message to them?" A perfectly reasonable question.

As Frei dives into the assault, it was foolish. That's, at least, what Diana thinks. As he runs towards her, letting the blade slice into his body as he moves close. It's foolish for him to run forwards.. but it only bring a smirk to her face as he lunges for her. But as he grabs for the sword arm.. Diana dips backwards, the blade catching the arm.. and then slipping through the grasp, being brought around, driving into Frei, raking him as she drives the blade against his body, the wind whistling, but ultimately unable to add to much. She walks past him after the strike, sliding the blade along his side as well, as she walks to his other side.

"You mis-understand." She finally speaks again. "You're the message. Those two. They have to know to know that if they try and take her from me..." She thrusts the blade towards Frei again, slicing it harmlessly through the air, before kicking a table over, the objects on bouncing off, rolling to the stop as the table teeters back and forth, rolling between two legs.

"They're all going to end up like you, alright? That's it. Aright? That's why I'm here. Think of me of an angry mother or something.. I'm not letting her go. It'll be over my dead body."

She takes a few more steps backwards, holding the blade out again, other arm to her side.

Not only foolish, but PROVEN foolish; Frei's attempt to get inside Diana's guard is for naught as the flurry of precise strikes turns his grab attempt into, well... so much harmless, whistling wind. The final strike sends him stumbling forward a few steps before he turns around, facing this elegant and mysterious threat with renewed interest. "'Angry mother', huh..." He momentarily thinks to his recent visit with his own mother, and tilts his head to the side in partial understanding. It would explain a lot.

Breathing slowly, the monk grips his bloodied right elbow with his left hand, watching Diana carefully. An angry mother with a sword... this IS a little too familiar, now. "I don't know who 'she' is," Frei admits, thinking it through. Could be anyone, especially in a town this size. "But... I don't think they're the types to resort to kidnapping, if that's what you mean. A little rough around the edges, but they've been nice to me..."

He pauses, thinking of his meeting with K' in the kitchen. "...more or less."

Bringing his arms down, blue-white chi starts to swirl in both of Frei's outstretched palms, and he gives Diana a serene look, something almost but not exactly like a smile on his face. "Okay. I understand you now, I think. But... you know, we hired those guys to protect us from people who'd want to hurt the people that use this place. So I guess if I'm the message, I'm going both ways with it." With a sudden swinging motion, Frei flings both arms forward, crossing them in front of his face as two spheres of icy chi swirl out toward Diana, eventually collapsing into a burst of biting frost that pummels her with shards of ice. The irony, sadly, is lost on Frei.

As Frei flings the sphere's of icy chi, Diana tries to slide under, even speeding herself up fails, causing the butterfly to crash into the ground, clenching the blade and just laying there for a moment. "... Fuck." She spits, standing up afterwards, and walks a step or two towards Frei.. before running towards him.

"Look, I don't care. From what I heard form the large man .. you'd never understand." She resigns herself to realizing this, and dashes towards Frei... and then vanishes. She's gone for a moment, before she appears behind him, sliding the blade upwards.. and he'd suddenly notice something.

The ground begins to upheave, or at least that's what it looks like, as silvery blue spikes slide up, one after another, growing closer. They rip through the ground one by one.. and hopefully, although, probably fail to, pierce Frei's guard, before tossing him up into the swing she performs at the end.

Jesus, she didn't want his life story. Yet that's what he responds with.

Look, such things are somewhat lost on her when they just don't seemingly know.

Grimacing, the monk senses the spike in both Diana's fighting spirit, and the chi she calls up to make her elaborate attack, but simply sensing it doesn't do him a lick of good; he braces himself for the blow but the strange angle of the attack coming from behind makes him misjudge his defense effort by a mile. The row of rippling energy fangs carry his body across the distance until Diana ends the entire thing with a single decisive stroke. Frei, for his part, slams into the ground in a heap, cut and bruised all over from the aggregate effect of Diana's attacks.

However, he's not out just yet, and he pulls himself to his feet even if he is a little unsteady about it. "Maybe not," he admits, in his infuriating tendency to accept what people tell him as true. He probably wouldn't understand, so why not say so? "You're obviously protecting something dear to you," he adds. After all, she said they'd take 'her' over Diana's dead body, yes? "But then, you have to understand that I'm protecting something valuable too. I don't know it has anything to do with them."

One hand held to his side, Frei concentrates, a blazing nimbus of multicolored light suddenly erupting around his palm. She showed him her killer moves... well, his turn to do the same. "But I'll pass along your message." And then he's off, sprinting like a shot and proving that while he might not be nimble, Frei can get up to a good clip when he wants to. When he gets as close to Diana as he can manage, the monk swings that glowing hand forward; the prismatic glow vanishes and becomes a massive, invisible shockwave of chi, the blast making the very air ripple like a stone dropping into a pond.

Well.. that was better than she expected. As Frei slams into the ground a heap, Diana lands as well, her feet touching upon the ground. Frei gets up once more as well, and Diana .. well.. "I'm more interested in having you give the message to them. This place? The kids? I'm not really interested in them. Unless you happen to know someone named Shurui." She adds in, a flick of the hand.

Yet as Frei causes a blazing nimbus of multicolored light, well.. he gets close, and as she brings an arm upwards.. things don't go so well. The prismatic glow, a massive shockwave causes her to be launched backwards, the woman tumbling head over feet before crashing into more than a few tables, the candles crashing to the ground as well.

Diana .. really didn't enjoy that in the least, it's obvious enough to see. But pulling herself up, the researcher takes a step or two forwards.. "The man tried taking her away from me already.. K' probably would be interested.. and just because she's in NESTS.. doesn't mean she's treated bad .. or brainwashed. YOU TELL THEM THIS, OKAY!?"

She rushes towards Frei , blade covered in the silvery blue chi as she suddenly vanishes once more, appearing at the other side of Frei. "You're going to goddamn tell them .. she's WELL TAKEN CARE OF."

The wide slash comes next, two quick motions.. both heavier than they should be. While she's normally rather untalkative.. there's a few touchy subjects. She's spent so much time, it's not like a little project anymore.

Damn.. it's more like a family.

It's not even the sudden disappearance/reappearance that gets the monk; it's the vehemence and fury in Diana's voice that really makes the monk's eyes go wide with surprise, the green gaze staring into nothingness for a moment as he contemplates everything she's said. NESTS? Shurui? The name's familiar... oh yeah. The girl K' seemed to know when they had an SNF right here in this very building. If she were so inclined, Diana could go rent the DVD and watch it, most likely... NESTS probably has a good Netflix deal.

He only seems to realize she's giving one last shot at really driving the message home a little too late; he turns just in time to see the blade flash once, twice, three times, too quick for him to do anything about it. Sent stumbling foward, the monk lands in a heap at the base of the 'stage' for the interrupted poetry slam, grimacing in pain. His vision blurry, Frei clings to the edge of consciousness just enough to say what he needs to.

Rising slowly, the monk's body is limned with a yellow-green aura, like faerie fire, for just a moment, as he focuses, trying to close wounds and heal cuts by force of will alone. It's not perfect, but it'll keep... for now, anyway. "Alright," he says agreeably. "I'll tell them all that. I promise. But my condition is that you go and let these kids have the fun they came here to have... is that alright?" Does he have sympathy for this woman who's marked him up like a shopkeeper's tally? Perhaps he does, after all.

With Frei stumbling away, landing at the base of the stage, Diana looks down to him, as he still damn stand. Damn, looks like she failed at that. But the wounds are closing, oh, even better. She can pick that out. But as she watches him simply make a .. deal.

She stares for a moment, tossing the blade into the ground, the tip clattering against it as she watches him get up. "You freaking gentleman.. trying to always stand up for something..." She kicks the blade up afterwards and begins to head for the door.

She's marked up rather badly too, and she's all but ran herself into a corner with the effort she was putting into it. Fury usually tends to cloud the better judgement of a fencer, drives them to make stupid choices.

Not unlike everything she's done since she thought of coming here.

"Just don't get caught up in it otherwise." She comments, heading out the door, nearly kicking it as she walks angrily out. Sure, she delivered her message.

She just didn't like the guy. Playing the 'gentleman' to the lady. What a load of bull.
