Hakuya - How The GK Trains

Description: After the three male members of the Guardian King's defeat at the hands of Kain, Tenma Kiryuu decides they need to step up their efforts to train. And how the Guardian Kings trains is contained in a simple philosophy: beat each other senseless until only one, or none, is left standing. Then, the next day, do it again. And again and again, until they obtain true strength. The four Kings fight hard, with Kenji displaying that even though he's a junior member of the Kings, he's not to be underestimated!

It's been over a week since the somewhat disastrous battle against Kain R. Heinlein. A week in which the leader of the Guardian Kings, Tenma Kiryuu, has been going over just what happened... And just why they weren't able to put the guy down despite having the advantage of numbers. Also the advantage of coolness, fashion sense, charm and good looks.

Seriously, why couldn't they seal the deal?

The fact is: Kain demonstrated simply overwhelming power, which reminded Tenma, especially in the current context of there being some looney tunes English Duke going around putting teenagers in the hospital, that they've been kind of slacking lately. The Guardian Kings came out of Jinchuu full of resolve and purpose, and even recruited a new member, but since then they've been a little lax, in his opinion.

Well, no more.

Tenma was unceremonious and uncompromising in his instructions to his teammates: Meet on the roof at this time, and come ready to train. It's the start of a new era for the Guardian Kings, an era in which they're going to kick people right in the ass. And that era starts today.

So Tenma is on the roof, waiting for his comrades. He sits, in fact, on the peak of the curved roof, crosslegged, his unsheathed bokken grasped lightly in one hand and resting point-down on the rooftop beside him, his fingers gripping the wooden sword right between the haft and the 'blade', where the crossguard would be on a real katana. He looks... Serious. Focused.

This might bode ill.

Though he was knocked flat out by the strength of Kain Heinlein's attack, though he still tried to get that last hit in, he still went down. He went down kicking and screaming, in fact-- and even while spouting blood from his head and looking like he just got hit by a semi, he was dragged off by the staff to get some medical attention by the arms, his legs limp and shouting things about how his mullet is silly and he smells like feet smothered in cottage cheese.

It'd be a lie if Kenji Ashima wasn't emotional and odd.

So when he arrives on the rooftop, looking much better than he did when he came back to school this week, he pushes open the door while closing his cellphone and wearing his backpack. Clad in the student uniform as he should be-- as the members of the Guardian Kings have likely come to expect-- he doesn't seem to have the air of seriousness that Tenma has, unshouldering his pack and tossing it down next to the door.

"Oi, Tenma!" he calls, waving his arm. Unhooking the collar of his jacket and opening it a button or two, the Student Council Secretary heads toward their headstrong leader with his hands jamming into his pockets. "Nobody else is here yet? Huh, I thought I'd be late..."

If you had asked Hakuya on whether he felt that they were slacking recently or not, he probably would have denied it. After all, slacking off would imply they - not just he - were being lazy with their training, and he just couldn't say that about his friends, even if it were they doing the asking. Hakuya was just too nice to even idly comment on being slacking on the training, even if yes, deep inside, he felt the same way as Tenma. But it wasn't just the Kain fight that had prompted it. For awhile now, after Jinchuu, and especially at Christmas, he'd felt they weren't training hard enough. He wasn't growing as strong as he could be. And he needed to grow stronger, he felt. Why? Well, those were some complex reasons to go through. So then, he had reason and drive enough to want to get stronger... so why hadn't he been pushing more for training, or at least asking occassionally about it? It was a team effort to train together, not just Tenma's to call a group meeting.

So why hadn't he been out there doing it?

Even now as he climbs the ladder up to the roof one-handed, his other arm tucked under several kinds of lunch breads, no doubt gained from the ill deeds of cheating people out of their lunch money and/or the bread itself through fixed gambling. He even carries a sack, held in the clenched hand, which undoubtedly holds either water bottles or milk. Waving his free arm as he gets up onto the rooftop, he smiles brightly at Tenma and Kenji, shouting over, "Hey guys! I brought the left overs from lunch!" He looks fairly well-off, given he took some of the more brutal blows from Kain, even if that last attack was a doozy on them all. His hair, however, was notably cut a great deal shorter, not quite a buzz cut but only several days' growth from that. The fires set to his head had undoubtedly scorched and burned off sections of his hair, and it had to all be evened out to make it look okay again. Moving nearer to the other two, he sets the breads and milks down, and then collapses onto his rear, cross-legged.

He notices Tenma's mood right away.

"You shouldn't take our defeat that hard, Tenma... Heinlein-san was very strong, stronger than most fighters I've ever seen. We did really well against him." Well, he at least -tries- comforting Tenma... but he honestly can't keep a cheerful tone to all of it, and it sounds a little forced, even to his usually cheerful self.

Stasya could feel it even before she opened the door to the roof-- that general sense of ambition and stifled discontent that only accumulates more and more with each boy that arrives. She usually doesn't get that much distance with her empathy, but it had helped Tenma-- at the least-- had had a long time up there by himself to properly soak the area. She steps into that waft of resolution with a blink, her eyes drifting shut as she tilts her head back absently. After a few moments' pause, she blows a slight sigh and moves on, glancing around briefly to pinpoint the boys' location... and then ascending slowly up to join them.

She had heard about-- and seen on tape-- the fight her three teammates had had against Heinlein. A minor and troubling crush she'd developed on the mysterious German blond aside, she had been quite sympathetic about their defeat-- and understanding of what it would trigger, though she's the newest addition to the team. One doesn't have to be there from the start to be able to pick up how a team works... especially not if one is a 'psychic.'

Stasya is, as one might expect, pretty good at reading people, even without the benefit of her abilities.

"Tenma, Kenji. Hakuya," is her greeting, as she settles herself with a comfortable sort of companionability next to their somewhat broody leader. Despite her outward amiability, however, she seems a little... more subdued than usual, for whatever reason.

Perhaps... Perhaps Hakuya's hair was truly the greatest casualty of that match with Kain.

Tenma's expression hardly seems to alter as his teammates - perhaps the only friends he has - filter onto the rooftop in turn, though he acknowledges each of them with a nod as they arrive. He seems a bit less chatty than usual, probably because he's been thinking. Deep thinky-thoughts. In fact, it's only once they're all present that he does speak, taking a moment to exhale slowly.

"Yeah, that Blondie is stronger'n most," Tenma agrees with Hakuya, nodding again. "But it ain't about that." Not just about that, anyway; he was close. He was so close, he could taste victory... But he couldn't manage to finish things. And there is nobody Tenma Kiryuu is harder on than himself... But he's going to be hard on his teammates too, in the process. "Fact is... We need to get stronger, all of us. Not 'cause of some fight against a guy like Blondie, but 'cause we never know when we might be in another situation like the one on that stupid ninja ghost boat. Or when we might have to deal with some lunatic tryin' to put us out of commission." Besides, they need to keep up with their rivals, Pacific Resistance... On top of who knows who else. "This ain't no time for us to be sittin' around on our asses."

So, true to his word, he starts to rise to his feet. "We're gonna train harder. We're gonna train against each other, an' against whoever else we can." Tenma lifts his left hand to his mouth, and bites into his thumb, drawing blood that runs down his hand in dark red rivulets. "Startin' right now."

It's true. They need to get stronger, even for all their own reasons. He recalls something that gorgeous Chinese woman had said to him in a fight just after they had gotten off the Suiryuu, that he has potential, that he needs to be sure he isn't being held back. But why does he need to get stronger than he already is? For the sake of the team? For his family? His mother isn't keen on his 'pasttime,' and his sister could probably take care of herself without a problem.

But for Kenji Ashima, doing it for his friends is good enough.

Tenma bites his thumb and bleeds. Hakuya-- probably beams more. Stasya's got her own routine-- and the team's 'responsible' member simply adjusts the way his jacket sits with a minor pull, wheeling his right arm around a few times.

"I'd be lyin' if I said I didn't want to try to pop you one, one more time, Tenma!" Kenji exclaims with a grin. He rolls his shoulders, kicks his legs out a few times, bounces on the soles of his Kick-Rollers.

Oh yeah. He's totally ready now.

For Hakuya, getting stronger was done to help him protect people. And while 'for friends' was good enough, it had been ingrained into the Suigetsu heir, just as much as him getting the shit beat out of him every day of his life from ages 8 to 18 until he learned to defend himself and fight back, that he was meant to protect -everyone-. And getting his ass handed to him a lot as he has been doing recently... is not so good on the confidence of being able to protect people he said he would. He'd gone on acting like his normal cheerful self, rather than worry his friends, but the past weeks have seen him growing more and more discontent. What Tenma was saying was basically what he wanted to hear. They needed to be ready. For anything. Hakuya casts a glance around at the other three, Tenma, Kenji, and offering a brighter smile for Stasya as he notices their newest team mate, before he looks back to Tenma. Then, instead of beaming...
...He tries to kick the hell out of Tenma. The motion is fairly fast, though done somewhat awkwardly as he rises from his cross-legged position. He moves forward, planting his hands in front of his crossed legs, then puts all of his weight on them and pushes up. His legs, no longer having much, if any of the weight, unfold out behind him and he basically looks like he's doing a pushup for one moment. But then his left foot sweeps around to his right side, and he seeks to bring it fully around in a sweeping motion of his body at Tenma's head, following it closely with his right foot, then finish up by performing a corkscrew kick with both of his feet, pushing off from his hands to become somewhat airborn.
Hey, Tenma did the exact same sneak attack the first time they'd met!

Stasya listens in silence as Tenma speaks. She can empathize with the drives of all present... a subtle buzzing she can sense humming through the air, generated by the moods touched off by Tenma's speech. As for her... increasing in strength is not really a direct result of a protective drive, not really for the sake of friends-- that's her eventual goal, yes, but she needs to know what she's even handling before she can think about that. She needs an understanding that can lead to a greater command before she can apply herself.

She needs to learn what her power is, and how better to control it. She hasn't hurt anyone outside of a fight, hasn't lost control of it -yet-... but she never feels confident when using her energy. The past few fights she's done, the ones in which she's truly tested her ability against superior opponents, have hammered home that she doesn't feel secure. And that needs to change.

Stasya's own preparation for the training bout Tenma's declared is subtle... less a physical preparation, and more a mental and spiritual gathering. Her control over her energy isn't too fine yet, every draw on her power feeling shaky-- like she can't get a solid grip on it-- and she needs a minute to focus. Her eyes half-lid as she arranges her energy and centers herself.

Then, Hakuya starts moving.

Stasya reacts quickly as Hakuya launches out of his cross-legged seat, lashing out. She's not the target, but she has no particular desire to stick around-- if Tenma gets hit, he might get knocked into her, and then she'd probably... fall off the roof. Skidding around to a low crouch a few feet away, she grins at the altercation she just narrowly avoided. "Looks like," she observes, flicking a glance over at Kenji with a wink, "you are not the only one."

COMBATSYS: Stasya focuses on her next action.

'Why do this, Tenma?' the leaduer of the Guardian Kings was asked, not too long ago. 'Why do fight? What's your reason?' And the truth is, in some ways, Tenma isn't entirely sure himself. It's fun, that's a big factor... But that's not enough. Like Hakuya, he was raised to it, trained from a young age in his family's traditional martial arts... But that's not it either. Strength, in and of itself...

...But since he came to Gedo High, Tenma was shown a new reason. His friends. The ideals of Daigo Kazama. But... It's still not quite complete. Suddenly, though, Tenma has less time for introspection as Hakuya tries to kick his head off, sweeping around in a series of kicks. But the kicks don't hit home, not the way the Suigetsu martial artist wants them to, and instead those feet slam repeatedly into Tenma's braced, upraised bokken, the impacts enough to drive him back a little.

"Too slow, Hakuya," Tenma says, with a hint of his usual smug self-assurance. In the aftermath of the strike, he draws his thumb along the blade of his bokken, forging the chi-link between himself and his weapon... And then he sweeps the blade through the air, setting it alight with that distinctive misty red aura. Lunging forward at his best friend, Tenma swings his bokken downwards in a vicious strike, diagonal across the torso; at the bottom of the slash, he suddenly reverses the blade, to swing back /up/, making a shallow V-shape with the first strike. "Graaah!!"

Kenji looks to Hakuya-- meeting the gaze for a moment, then looking to the other members as he does. His grin is still light, right up until--

Hakuya beats him to the punch.

"Haha," Kenji says, uttering a sigh and holding his forehead. "I should have expected that."

Looking to Stasya, his head tilts a little with a laugh. "Well, they've always been like that. So uh, I suppose that means you and I are going to have to have a little fun? And I got both arms, this time!" he adds, holding up both fists with a nod. Flicking an errant lick of bangs out from the usual spot, the young man's wildly spiked hair gets hands run through it before he stops... smiles...

And lunges at Stasya. "LET'S DO IT!!"

His arm hooks around for a simple swing... simple, but hard. Going for the low body blow, Kenji's intent is to sink one of those rather hard fists into her side and get her moving in their part for this brutal form of training-- and perhaps bonding between four friends?!

COMBATSYS: Tenma successfully hits Hakuya with Ungyou.

Well, it was a little uncharacteristic of him to attack first. He'd usually been one to give up the first attack to people he's fighting... just the way he was. But he'd grown quite accustomed to how Guardian Kings did things, and Tenma, his best friend, in particular liked fighting with as little formality as possible. In a setting like this, even though indeed they would try their damnedest just to beat each other senseless, it was, in spirit, all about fun. So perhaps it wasn't -so- surprising he'd taken the initiative. It was just as Tenma would want it. After all, if they couldn't handle a surprise attack, especially from Hakuya, then what could they expect?!
Tenma expects it at least, and he's ready to block the hit, the impacts landing mostly on the raised bokken, which no doubt still jarr the arm some, but not as clean a blow as he'd like. Landing on his side, he twists and tries to get up, and only just makes his feet as Tenma charges, the bokken sweeping in and roughly impacting the off-balance Suigetsu fighter, causing Hakuya to fall onto his back again with a marginal surprised cry. It's true he hadn't directly fought against Tenma in some time, but when had the other teen hit that hard? Blinking twice, this just urges Hakuya to get back onto his feet quickly, springing up. He wastes no time in stepping forward to try another attack, his hands thrusting forward both at once to attempt open-palm strikes at either of Tenma's sides, then switching up and striking again at his stomach and throat, then finally finishing it with a rough shoulder ram to the stomach, hopefully staggering Tenma back some and making him give Hakuya some room.
Kenji and Stasya? Well, they're not attacking -him- at least, so he can't really concentrate on what they're doing, but apparently his enthusiasm has gotten them all riled up and ready to 'train' the Guardian Kings way.

Stasya, by now, is only paying attention to Tenma and Hakuya in that peripheral sense that would warn her if either of them came after her. Her attention reroutes to Kenji the moment he starts sounding like he'll come for her, the girl rising out of her crouch with a reckless look to match his own.

Her stance opens as Kenji comes lunging in, the girl attempting to find her balance on the precarious roof at the same time she tries to guard her teammate's blow. Trying to do both in tandem proves a bit much, however, and Kenji gets past her defense-- fortunately, the direction of the blow striking her towards the apex of the roof rather than towards the edge. She skids to a stop, panting out a breath, and then she grins.

"One arm or two arms-- you are hitting hard, either way. I don't think--" Stasya leaps abruptly in a rather dangerous maneuver considering their location: a pair of arcing kicks slinging a crossed, wide-arcing array of psychic force at Kenji, "--having one arm broken hindered you much at all."

It is, indeed, the Guardian Kings way. And if they don't give it their all, well, then they're hardly going to learn anything, are they?

Tenma is a bit slow in recovering from his attack on Hakuya, leaving him vulnerable for the normally cheerful and placid student's rebuttal, which comes in the form of open palm strikes to his poor sides; the thing is, Tenma doesn't even seriously /try/ to avoid them, grunting in faint pain as they hit home, his body shuddering. But then when the next set of attacks come... Things don't quite go how Hakuya was planning.

Instead, Tenma's hand is suddenly gripping Hakuya by the front of his shirt, and as one of the Suigetsu fighter's hands strikes home on the Kiryuu demon hunter's gut, the other misses his throat by bare inches as Tenma brings his head back and then forward, colliding his forehead with Hakuya's face in a brutal impact. "Don't bring that weak crap, Hakuya!!"

His punch has decent follow-through, and fortunately she's not flying off the roof like a projectile. His arm didn't hinder him? The young Gedo student lets out a laugh as he hops back a few steps, bouncing on his feet like a boxer of some kind. "Yeah, well, after I climbed up the side of that stupid boat with one arm I kind of had to commit to fighting with just one!"

Stasya's retort is fast-- faster than he had anticipated. Bringing his hand around as if he were going to try to palm-catch the psychic energy flying at him, the young master of Ashima Missile Brawling finds that mistiming is bad-- as the energy strikes him clear in the chest, sending him staggering backward with a heel slide and the grind of wheels and rubber on the roof.

He's wincing hard, still standing. He's slumped forward a bit with one hand on his knee! But in true Kenji fashion, the Student Council Secretary straightens himself up and forcably dusts off the shoulder of his pale yellow jacket. "HAH! My SISTER could hit harder than THAT!"

Famous last words.

Charging back in with a heavy clomp-clomp-clomp, Kenji's right arm hooks around at high speed, his arm looking as though it bends and distorts with the speed. His punch is set square for the middle of Stasya's chest, his fist feeling like a slab of iron rather than flesh and bone. "HYA-!!"

Well, having a forehead jammed against his own wasn't -quite- what he intended. But indeed it happens. Letting out a random 'fuh!' of pain and surprise, Hakuya staggers backwards some at the unexpected interrupt slamming into him - but interestingly his hands move forward even as his feet shuffle back. Intending to grip the wrist and forearm of the hand clutching his hoodie, if successful in this grapple, Hakuya will clench his teeth, and then move into an attack sequence that very likely will indeed put the hurt on Tenma, if it works. First he'll yank Tenma forward by the arm, but then pull downwards on it, while sending a swift sweep of his leg to the sword-wielder's legs, kicking him into a flipping motion. But rather than simply let him fall to the ground, Hakuya will raise his other leg and try to slam it into Tenma's middle, knocking him higher into the air, where the Suigetsu heir will grab him, then simply sweep him up, over, and down into a traditional suplex, getting Tenma re-aquainted once more with the roof of the Gedo High building, a place where they often seem to hangout... and, well, fight.

With a concentrating sneer, Stasya turns her body and braces, watching Kenji rush in with that piercing blow. Her hands open, fingers coiling, and she makes a biting snatch at his clothes in an attempt to snare him right out of his momentum-- doubtless, to inflict some kind of pain on him. But his blow connects before she can work up enough leverage to complete any kind of throw.

Knocked out of her own attack, Stasya recoils immediately with a sharp cough and a shuddering breath. It's her turn to hunch a bit, recovering from his punch, a hand bracing her up against the roof as she watches the other three combatants carefully

"Oh? That is not fair at all, Kenji," she retorts windedly, still managing a smirk despite the fact she feels like her lungs are contracting and won't ever open up again. "I was holding back little, last time we fought-- maybe I should be showing you how hard I can -really- hit this time, euh?"

Taunting in kind. But it seems she'll need a second to get her breath back before she can make good on that.

This time, though... Tenma tries to avoid Hakuya entirely, but he can't quie manage to avoid getting his arm grabbed in return. Uh oh. He gets kicked into that flip instead, and then kicked /into the air/, before getting helluva suplexed, landing with a definite impact against the curved roof, putting a dent and even a few cracks in the poor thing. Owww.

Taking just a moment to get his thoughts back together, Tenma rolls over himself, and slides halfway down the slope of the roof on the balls of his feet, his dark blue eyes fixed right on Hakuya. "Heh," he laughs, with a lopsided, toothy grin.

And then he rushes at Kenji.

"Hey, Ashima!! Heads up!" is all the warning Tenma gives the student council secretary, as he sweeps his bokken back behind himself, and lashes out with his left fist. A quick series of repeating punches, Tenma targets specific points on Kenji's torso to disrupt the flow of chi through his body, all the while trying to herd him into a more advantageous position... A task made all the easier by Stasya's proximity!

Another solid followthrough, his fist colliding with Stasya's chest and a step leading after to make sure all that delicious impact soaks through. Kenji's hand lowers to his pants, dusting off the front of his jacket and the uniform's matching pale yellow trousers. Grinning, the young man begins to laugh. "Oh really? Then I guess you'll have to start gettin' serious!"

But not as serious as the incoming Captain.

His attention shifts hard and fast, twisting to try to deflect the punches or save himself some serious hurt-- but it doesn't work out as well as he'd like, staggering and grunting from each strike before-- and then turning to hook his left arm around to plant his fist into the almighty leader's face-- hard, fast, and with almost no thought for safety behind it. "You too!!"

Apparently, as Hakuya rolls away from the downed Tenma, who just got Helluva Hurt, Tenma is quite satisfied with the Suigetsu heir's combat strength! Or just had had enough of testing it out. After all, Tenma was the captain and had to make sure the two newer members were up to snuff! Right? Right. So Hakuya isn't -too- surprised when the sword user stops and laughs off the attack, and then turns to charge after Kenji. This prompts Hakuya, getting to his feet, to blink a bit, and then laugh in response, rubbing the back of his head. He turns to face after the now group of three, and considers for a moment. Technically, he could attack whomever he wanted... so, given Tenma was rushing for Kenji, it was up to him to test the strength of the newest member! "Stasya-san!" Hakuya calls out cheerfully. Should she look, though, he's totally rushing her, at a dead run, seeking to sweep the light Russian girl up into a clothesline, but then -keep running-. The roof isn't that long, though, so at the very end of it, Hakuya has to improvise his attack some, assuming he gets that far. At nearly the edge of the roof, he suddenly twists on his feet, turning a full 180, and seeks to slam Stasya into the ground of the roof, propelled by her own momentum, as well as Hakuya's own.

Stasya wastes one second too long continuing to watch Kenji when Tenma abruptly switches targets and goes after the council secretary. Absorbed in trying to rein her psionic energy back in after her last attempt failed to complete, she isn't quite paying attention to the last member of their team when she should. It's not until Hakuya actually addresses her that she recognizes her error, trying to correct for it in time to defend against his attack.

She's a light girl. Trying to just stop his momentum might well be a futile endeavor. But her lightness means she is agile as well. She guards against his first impact, letting his clothesline slam into her, but then ducks under his attempt to snare her and keep going. Twisting around to Hakuya's side, she spins back to a low crouch and segues instantly in a sharp reprisal, her stance setting as she drives a sharp hook towards Hakuya's shoulder.

Uh oh, spaghetti-os!

When that punch comes for his face, Tenma swings his bokken out in an attempt to do... Something, but he underestimates the speed and ferocity of his teammate. Instead, he gets hit quite hard, the blow sending him reeling back down the far slope of the roof, blood streaming down his face from his nose. It's not broken - luckily - but it sure does hurt!

Breathing raggedly and looking a bit sweaty, Tenma elects to take a moment to re-evaluate the situation, instead of just charging in pell-mell. Plus, he needs to catch his breath. Kenji punches hard!

It's hard to say what he's still got up his sleeve, and what he plans on doing. His fist is unrelenting, unyielding-- and Kenji certainly feels the impact from knuckles to shoulder when he slugs his team captain right in the face, taking a step back on the sloped roof and bringing his fist up to his face. In a most taunting gesture, Kenji bobs his head sideways a little and raises his eyebrows, blowing on his knuckles before gingerly dusting them off with the fingers of his other hand. "You're gonna have to do better than that, Tenma~a~a!"

Rocking onto the balls of his feet, bouncing on his heels, Kenji takes a step back and starts evaluating his position-- the lock Hakuya and Stasya are in, the condition of Tenma, and where he stands on the roof. It's unusually calculating for someone like Kenji Ashima to actually start becoming aware of his surroundings!

He feels his arm hit her, but as for the 'picking up and carrying' part of his plan, Hakuya is made disappointed, as Stasya's agile body carries her away from such peril. His momentum forces him to run past Stasya and a bit away, but then his feet dig into the uneven rooftop and he swings himself around, cancelling his momentum with a sharp, controlled 180 turn, now facing the female Guardian King. Or would be, if she weren't ducking to his side, then striking out at his shoulder with a stiff punch. True to form, he simply lets it hit him, and pushes past the impacting force, even though he growls somewhat in a pained response. Stepping forward, perhaps a bit quicker than Stasya would like, he raises a foot and tries to press it into the Psi-user's stomach. This isn't the attack - the other foot sweeping upwards in a kick for Stasya's jaw is. If that works, he flips over in a full flip kick, though the attack doesn't seem over yet. Landing again, he reaches forward and tries to, while Stasya is hopefully dazed, and grabs her about the waist, lifting her up, over, and then slamming her right back down to the ground in a traditional suplex.

Stasya pulls back immediately, backing up a step and setting her stance warily, as Hakuya absorbs the force of her strike. As Hakuya slams a sharp reprisal towards her, she locks her hands about his ankle-- but whatever intentions she might have had in riding out his attack in a controlled manner quickly get dashed when he suddenly does something that's not unlike her OWN style; he launches into a full flash kick, stunning her with a sharp blow. Dazed, she's quickly made victim to the rest of Hakuya's attack, slammed into the ground hard enough she sees stars.

Rolling away-- eventually-- she picks herself off the rooftop dizzily and shakes her hair out of her eyes. Focusing back on Hakuya, she grins bloodily. "Atasny," she tells him, incomprehensibly, before a profusion of sudden psi knifes from her skin.

The red energy flexes uncontrollably, Stasya still not entirely in control of her great amounts of psionic force; it streams in a chaotic pattern, fluttering indistinctly, as Stasya abruptly lunges clear at Hakuya in an attempt first to slam her psi-bleeding, slight frame into his, and then to return his flash kick with one of her own. Should she manage those initial steps, she lands from her flip on all fours and forces her psi into the rooftop: letting it stalagmite back out in a rush of feathery blades shortly thereafter in an attempt to catch Hakuya in a sharp snare.

"Yeah," Tenma calls back. "I guess I'll havta stop goin' all easy on ya, Ashima." Ha ha, but he totally wasn't! That's why it's talking smack. But the leader of the Guardian Kings is unfortunately still in no condition to retaliate just yet... Instead, he lowers his stance a little, keeping his chi-emanating bokken in front of himself as he tries to regain his center, his balance. This may not help much if Kenji goes all crazy punchman again though.

Letting Tenma catch his breath-- it's dangerous, all things considered. He's one of the two most powerful members of their team, and he didn't get to call himself "the leader" for nothing! Narrowing his eyes, Kenji's jaw shifts left just slightly while it looks like the gears are turning at high speeds in his head. What is he thinking? What is he planning? Or is he wondering if he had a date tonight?

You never know.

Suddenly he -runs- at Tenma, pounding feet down the slope of roof toward the leader of the Guardian Kings. Reaching out, Kenji attempts a manuver that may just be the most brilliant or the stupidest one that he's ever concieved in battle:

He tries to grab Tenma Kiryuu's weapon.

Grabbing at the chi-powered bokken, the student council secretary then turns on his heels and RUNS back towards the apex of the roof, trying to rip the swordsman right off his feet and back on high. "WOOOOOOOOOO~!"

'Atasny'? What? As Hakuya rolls away from Stasya and gets up into a crouched stance, his team mate gets up as well and says... something... to him. It causes him a moment's pause, as he's not entirely sure he should've understood what was said or not, really. Blinking in that guileless way of his, he -almost- isn't ready for the sudden feeling of the girl's Psi to start hemorrhaging, followed closely by a snap kick to Hakuya's jaw. He just barely manages to tilt his head backwards, far enough for the kick to graze past his chin. Still a little stunned anyway despite the kick missing, the sudden burst of knife-like psi energy seeking to stab the shit out of him makes him react on pure instinct.

And it's probably a good thing.

His hands shoot out around him and spread open, his will instantly being channeled into them. The psi-blades jab upwards, surrounding him, but oddly enough, none of them that would have struck home on his body seem to reach any higher than his hands, the points just barely indenting the leather of his gloves. Otherwise they shoot up around him, over his shoulder, past his hip, one even barely missing his eye in order to graze his cheek, drawing a thin line of blood just under the eye. Panting heavily, he holds his will until the energy fades, and then suddenly collapses onto one knee, panting heavily. That took a lot of effort to make sure nothing hit him, and to make it surge -back to Stasya- as he'd been taught to do? Ha ha, no way that would've happened. He just barely managed to not get skewered, and for simply that, he was now exhausted. "Ha ha... haa... that was scary..."

Stasya rises slowly to her feet as she watches the effect of her attack. She had known Hakuya to be well-versed in defensive fighting, and she had known he was skilled in either avoiding or rolling with blows. This, however, she hadn't been entirely aware of-- she had not had the opportunity to see Hakuya exert this sort of ability in the past. Her grey eyes narrow on the sight, sensing the flux of energy-- noting how those psi blades never reach any higher than the focal points of his will.

Eventually, that energy dissipates. Stasya considers for a moment. Hakuya has skill, yes; but she cannot help but be dissatisfied with her own performance. It has been a consistent pattern, ever since she joined the Kings, ever since she met their rivals in Pacific Resistance: she has always felt just a little bit overshadowed. And she knows why. It's tied to her lack of understanding of her own ability-- tied to her inability to fully control the ridiculous stores of force within her. She has felt that inner wellspring of energy increasing steadily within her, ever since it first manifested, and she has this feeling that if she doesn't learn to rein it in...

She stops thinking. She can concern herself with these matters later. But if nothing else, that moment of uncertainty convinces her. She'll go find Ayame. It's certainly a risk... but perhaps, the risk of doing nothing and letting her psi fester within her is worse.

For the time being, she hides her concerns, burying them in the practiced way she's learned to deal with all her emotions-- and flashes a sudden grin at Hakuya. Scary, is it. She imagines so. "Yes. Good thing it did not hit, eh? I might almost feel badly!" And with that, she continues to press the attack: lancing a sudden burst of hard-edged psi towards Hakuya with a piercing lunge of a hand.

What are you doing, Kenji Ashima, grabbing another dude's hard wooden length in a battle? Are you some kind of pervert? Some manner of molester offender?

Tenma frowns as Kenji lunges for him, but tries to see just what the other Guardian King is going to do, which means his chi-emanating bokken gets grabbed, and at this the Gedo swordsman frowns a little.

And then he gets pulled along and thrown.

"You son of a biiiiiiiiitch!!" Tenma declares as he hits the other side of the roof in a somewhat poor roll, catching himself before he manages to completely tumble off of the roof... And then he races directly at Kenji, without even properly regaining his balance, charging forward with a two-handed slash across the belly, followed by a second slashing attack, diagonal downwards across Kenji's torso... And finishing it all up by lunging forward to try and smash his forehead right into Kenji's face. "HORA-!!"

He grabs. The force of Kenji's grasp is the force of life itself, grabbing onto the wooden sword and keeping Tenma from making any threatening moves with it for a moment. For that moment, even, his gaze becomes an intense power. A force of nature.

After winging Tenma off toward the opposite side of the roof and down the slope, Kenji slams his fists down at his hips and cocks one leg in the air as if he were standing on a box, chin thrown to the sky and proudly grinning.

But then Tenma comes back up.

Kenji's quick to react, even as the bokken rips across his stomach. As the second slash comes in, the Gedo Student Council Secretary -steps into- the attack, cutting down on Tenma's angle and likely making it a pain in the butt to get a proper swing in on him-- all while his right arm snakes around one more time, the pliable lash of his arm and his steel-hardness fist planting on the side of Tenma's face for what seems to be a right cross for the record books. Hakuya just gives one of those simple, cheerful smiles of his in reply to Stasya's return comment, though it's tinged with a bit of nervousness. While his team mate may doubt herself, her abilities, in the Suigetsu heir's mind, he's thinking that if he had been even slightly slower, he would be in a very, very bad way right now, and very likely out of the fight completely. It was only that he was slightly more experienced in fighting than Stasya is that he managed to defend at all. But, well, she's quickly suppressing those thoughts anyway, giving Hakuya only time enough for one more thought: 'Fast!' The lunging lance of psi races towards his chest, and it's all he can think to do to raise a little bit more on his feet, setting his stance more firmly, then raise his arms. Taking the stabbing psi directly on the arms would be a bad idea, so instead he parts his arms slightly, then brings them together once the point of that psi lance passes between his arms, effectively 'catching' the blade between them. It still hurts, though, and the cloth wraps around his arms get cut up, not to mention the skin beneath, bits of blood rolling down his arms. While it can't be seen, the point of the lance stops just short of the hollow of his throat, and he gulps a little. A little slower... might've been bad.
But he's quick to counter regardless. Shoving with his arms, he tries to cast Stasya's balance off a bit, so he has time to reach forward with his hand and grab at her extended forearm. If successful, he'll pull her towards him, pressing her arm to his chest briefly so they're forced close together. Then, he'll try to grab her hip, and lift her upwards, twist his body around, then slam her behind him, a little precariously close to the edge of the roof.

Stasya can sense that nervousness from Hakuya. Were she more malicious a person, the sensation might have amused her; as it is, it merely gives her pause. But what surprises her -more- is the way he stops the psi-blade. To be able to stop energy without really touching it... Her grey eyes widen fractionally. She shouldn't be surprised, knowing what Hakuya can do, but then... her teammates never fail to impress her with their respective skills.

She retracts instantly, relieving Hakuya of that point at his throat, and quickly regains her balance in spite of Hakuya's efforts to throw her off. Switching to a heavily-defensive stance, she grounds herself even as Hakuya seizes her wrist and pulls her in. As he attempts to throw her, however, she abruptly moves in the opposite direction, counterbalancing him: a jolt of sharp-edged psi force spiking from her skin at their points of contact in order to disrupt his concentration even more and discourage his grasp. She seizes him in that moment she creates for herself, and twists around, throwing -him- to the roof. Thereafter, she quickly backs up, panting slightly from exertion.

Well... Tenma really walked into that one, didn't he?

The leader of the Guardian Kings gets punched in the head /again/ by the Student Council Secretary, his head jerking to the side with the same blurring speed at Kenji's fist demonstrates, the expression he wears best described as 'hella surprised'. Followed shortly by 'possibly about to lose consciousness'.

But Tenma Kiryuu will be damned if he's going to go out like that.

"Gettin' a lot better there, Ashima!" Tenma allows, because it's true and he's supposed to be encouraging his teammates, here; that was, after all, part of the point of this whole exercise.

This does not stop Tenma, of course, from twisting and dropping low, continuing to turn around as he rises and swings his chi-emanating bokken in a rising, whirling slash... That tries to take Kenji up /with/ him, before knocking him away to let him fall as he will. "VAJRA!!"

A lot better... for all the pain that Tenma's put him through, he better be getting better-- he better get stronger, what with the time his rm was broken and he still had to fight, all those times he had to dress up in silly costumes. It was tenacity! It was stubbornness! It was pride! It was his sister taunting him at every turn and posting videos of him in the superhero costume on the internet and running around like a twit during his fight!

And it all started in a moment like this.

When Tenma drops low and twists, Kenji knows what's coming-- he's seen the move more times than he can count, and he's defended himself well against it before. Though last time he used his hands on the bokken, now Kenji makes a small hop and twists to the side, Tenma's bokken slamming up into the heels of his sneakers and flinging him into the air. Tensing up, he flips backwards off the blade before the second strike can come remotely close enough to hitting him...

And he drops.

"HYAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA--"

As he comes down, his fist is drawn back, a beam of blue light piercing the sky and aimed at Hakuya-- stabbing through his chest and to the ground. The guide as the blazing, wild blue-white chi becomes as blinding as the afternoon sun. His fist hits the blue beam-- and from that skyward place, he -blazes- at Hakuya, rocketing downward with the first release of the chi at his disposal. Should he strike Hakuya, all of that force is released at once-- a massive, explosive punch with enough energy to release a powerful shockwave on impact. A shockwave with enough pressure to push him -back- into the air, and keep him from slamming into the rooftop in a mess. His battlecry?

"RAIL GUN!!"

Well, sadly the throw didn't go as planned. As Hakuya tugs Stasya towards him, the light Russian spikes his hand with that psi of hers - which he notes, can seemingly come out where ever she wants, and will definitely need to be something he has to watch out for in the future. However he's got little time to renumerate on the aspects of Stasya's power, for the female King is seeking to grab him, then reverse his intentions by throwing him to the ground. He might be decently agile, but he can't quite keep up with the more agile woman, and he lets out a helpless yelp as he falls to the roof, on his back, somewhat dazed he'd been countered rather effectively.
Again, there's no time to -be- dizzy and dazed. He gets up, rolling to his feet... but rather than moving to follow up Stasya's counter with his own strike, he feels the build up of the chi... and also hears Kenji's voice. He stops, and casts a quick glance behind him, only to see Tenma falling to the floor, apparently out of commission, while Kenji rockets into the air, and immediately turns his attention towards the other 'senior' Guardian King. Hakuya's eyes widen slightly at this display, and it's all the Suigetsu heir can do to turn and face the other Guardian King... but has no time at all to dodge, he realizes.

There's but one thing to do.

Setting his feet, he tenses his jaw, and then simply... does not move. The beam of light, the fist, all impact Hakuya dead square in the chest in a giant explosion of chi, temporarily making the roof a blinding spectatcle to behold. Kenji and Hakuya are lost in the light for just a moment, both teens yelling, one in fierce defiance, one in pain. And when that light fades?

Hakuya still stands.

He's also got both of his hands gripping Kenji's forearm.

Panting, Hakuya looking about on his last legs, with his eyes widened slightly in alert pain, the Suigetsu heir is already moving as the light fades. "That was good, Kenji!" He calls, but it's almost uncharacteristic, his tone. Rather than his usual cheer, he almost looks... serious? For just a moment. But the look isn't quite that. Regardless, Hakuya takes a hold onto the arm he's got captured, and immediately tries to cancel the upwards momentum Kenji attempts to get, by yanking down hard on the arm, and at the same time raising his knee to try and impact it sharply on the man's stomach. If that succeeds, he'll let go, and then change the 'new' upward momentum into a suplex, by catching Kenji in mid-air, then raising him up, over, and back down in a rough, though powerful suplex. Even if it succeeds... Hakuya does -not- get back up, lying on the ground in a dazed, panting, exhausted haze.

This is probably the epitome of what Guardian Kings stands for; teenaged boys (and a girl, we suppose) -yelling crazily and punching each other- with wild and explosive abandon. Kenji collides with Hakuya with searing force, knocking both boys away in a corona of light. And Stasya?

Stasya just kind of hangs out, watching the lightshow with a nonplussed sort of look. After a glance at Tenma, ensuring the leader of their team can't come after her, she... just sticks her hands in her pockets and weathers out the fierce wind of the Rail Gun's shockwave, blonde hair fluttering back wildly in a tangle. She thought she felt something from Hakuya there, something that wasn't his usual blank fuzz of cheer, but whatever it was was quickly lost to her perception.

She doesn't move again until Kenji starts the first instants of his rebound, spinning back into the air from the force of his recoil. It's at that moment she finally lunges out of her stillness, leaving the rooftop in a quick leap, her body going parallel to the surface she just left so she can scissor a sharp kick at her airborne teammate. This may or may not, if it connects, assist Hakuya in his bid to yank Kenji back down.

For a moment, there's a light so bright the entirety of Gedo's campus, and likely a little bit beyond, can see it. At the core of it is one of the only students in the entire school that actually wears the uniform, his fist at full extension and pausing in the air for a tenth of a second-- as the force starts to shove him backwards, and he catches a glimpse of Hakuya's expression. Looking -shocked-, Kenji's eyes shift to the side like he were trying to avoid meeting his gaze, blinking as he twists at the waist-- taking Stasya's sudden kick across his shins, grunting with his legs drawn up and -- ripped out of the sky.

"Hurrrrrrr-AAAAAAAGH!"

His arms lifting over his head, the surge of strength in his arms keeps him from crashing down into an attack that would more than likely crack his head open on the ground. With his legs drawn up into that pose, it gives Kenji a whole lot of wiggle room-- and in a motion more smooth and fluid than it should be, his feet plant out onto the roof and he throws his torso upward and his head back, turning hard on his heel for one last attack, springing lightly into the air and thrusting out with his foot-- and trying to plant it on Stasya's chest. Leaning forward a little as if he were going to try to run 'on' her like a solid surface, the warm energy he commands suddenly flares to life.

"URRRRRRAGH-!!"

And if his foot can get there, if that charge can build, it'll feel like an explosion inside her chest, like a shockwave blasting through inside her. The rest of the world will hear the robust *ka-BOOM* like a rather large gun had just gone off.

Landing back on the roof, wavering a little as she attempts to regain her balance, Stasya manages to brace herself in a reasonable facsimile of stability about two seconds before Kenji puts himself on cruise control straight for her. Oh. This attack.

She knows what's coming, and she tries to -get out of the way- because she knows pretty much how much this hurts, but she doesn't quite make it, tired as she is. The roof is not the best surface for quick movements, and falling off would probably hurt... a little more than what Kenji's aiming at her.

Not that Kenji doesn't hurt a lot already.

Coughing a bark of pain and a little blood, Stasya folds as the shockwave rips through her. But abruptly, in a last willful exertion that's approximately seven-eighths adrenaline, she attempts to seize Kenji's ankle. Should she get a grip, she's twisting sharply to tear him out of the air and throw him to the rooftop, following with a burst of the last remnants of her psychic energy.

If nothing but stupidly tough, Kenji starts marching back toward his comrades-- some strewn across the rooftop in piles. Kenji stops-- looking from Stasya to Hakuya and Tenma. "Ugh," mutters Tenma, sitting up where he fell. His bokken lies at his side, the aura around it having dissipated, the red stripe painted on it in his blood faded to nothing. Dark blue eyes scan the rooftop, finally falling on the only standing person, Kenji Ashima. Well then, that's a touch unexpected.

"Nice work, Mr. Secretary," Tenma says, and while he uses a somewhat dismissive nickname for the other Guardian King, his tone is surprisingly genuine! He's glad that his teammates are getting stronger, it makes them a more effective group, and also better at punching Pacific Resistance members.

A bit wobbly and uncertain in the legs, he gets to his feet, spitting out a gob of blood onto the rooftop. "Guess you get free lunches for a week. Don't go gettin' lazy though... We gotta keep workin' hard." They also need to make sure Hakuya and possibly Stasya are safe and don't fall off the roof, while they're at it.
