Neo League 570 - #577: Himeko vs Arika

Description: Set inside the beautifully the Round Reading Room within the Maughan Library and Information Services Center on Chancery Lane in London, the punk princess faces off against Hurricane Hime! Papers fly about the area, as do fists, feet and fighters. Thankfully, no stained glass windows were harmed during the filming of this match. (Winner: Arika)

Busy, busy. That's how the punk rock princess has been keeping herself of late. Better that than dwelling on things that upset her, or make her feel increasingly awkward as time goes on. After finishing one project over the last few days, she decides it's time to schedule another Neo League match.

An invitation-slash-challenge has been sent to one of those with whom she saw fit enough to trust on the odd journey that was the Jinchuu tournament - Hurricane Hime. The message was short and sweet, basically just requesting her presence at one of the libraries associated with King's College in London, England. A small map of the area, depicting the 19th Century Gothic building on Chancery Lane was included.

The Maughan Library and Information Services Center (more commonly known as 'The Maughan Library') is home to several special collections of books, journals, CDs, records, DVDs and exam papers covering only four of the College's schools of study. It holds more than 750,000 items, and is usually a large bustle of activity consisting of students from the College and others from around London.

Inside the library is an octagonal Round Reading Room, inspired by the reading room of the British Museum. Like the former Rolls Chapel, it boasts stained glass windows, a huge mosaic floor and three monuments - including an important Renaissance terracotta figure. It is here that Arika waits, leaning up against a wall and letting the sunlight trickling in through the stained glass to create colorful patterns upon her body.

Hurricane Hime is always pleased to get a message of any sort from Arika; it's true they don't keep in touch as often as they used to but seeing as they're from two completely different worlds, it shouldn't be so suprising! But she's always been fond of the Diva, even if she does quite often act really suspicious. But as of late she's been really busy, so hasn't been able to spend a lot of time keeping up on digging up information on the Diva, and something had just been nagging her ever since the tournaments end. Hmn!

But more importantly, when it comes to the scene of the fight, Hime is like a kid in a candy store! No one would be able to appreciate a locale quite like the superhero bookworm, who had been running around the place like a complete maniac. But it isn't long before Arika hears the young fighters battlecry:

"mmmmMMMMORATALS!" She wanted to kick through the stainglass, but that'd be bad taste. Instead two tv-crew members step forth with a sheet of paper tied up in a giant hoop with an insignia of an angry-eyed hurricane on it. And the pink-clad heroine flying back kicks through said paper, and strikes a sentai-ish series of poses, dropping into a crouch with her arms chopping downard and then sweeping to her side! "Hurricane Hime is HERE!" she cries.

Indeed, kicking through the stained glass would be very bad taste and likely cost them both a fortune - which Arika doesn't have any longer, having sunk most of her winnings into the nightclub. At the cry, she pushes off of the wall and begins to stretch.

Until she sees the ring of paper.

And watches Hurricane Hime burst right through it and spaz out with poses.

Bringing her hand up to cover her lips, she hides the small snicker. Popping her neck to either side, she points right at the younger girl.

"Cor! You're gettin' more showy now, ain't ya?"

A crowd begins to form around the outer edges of the octagonal room which have been roped off to keep crazed college students from jumping into the fray. Cameras pan and zoom in on the students, most who have made quick signs for their favored fighter and are holding them up.

"Let me know when you're ready to foight..." She's laying the Cockney on a bit thick, now, but this is what happens when one spends any great amount of time back home.

Standing up straighter, the pink-clad heroine beams a bright grin to her friend and opponent, then raises her hand up to a quick salute. "Yeah it was pretty great, wasn't it? Each day I am improving in showmanship you know, it really works up the fans! But that's not all that's improved, of course." At least the younger ones anyway. And the current group of spectators probably fit the bill, she waving to the sign-wavers a little bit.

She then turns to face the punk rock princess, her hands on her hips for a brief moment. "I am ready.. At all times! The question is are you ready?" The girl hops lightly from foot to foot, and then sprints forward fast enough to make her oversized scarf flap wildly. She starts things off with a bang, leaping off the ground to curl into a ball and then burst horizontally toward her opponent, "Let's find out, I say!"

"Glad to see things are lookin 'up for ya, then." Arika doesn't bother waving at the gathering group of fans. She zones in on one particular male in the crowd and winks at him flirtily, then it's all business for the diva. Deep blue eyes narrow upon her opponent, though she is forced to grin as she watches the girl hop from foot to foot.

Now where has she seen that before?

Since one of her very own patented moves starts out the same way, when the feet come toward her, she hops back a step and ducks her head behind her arms in order to avoid having her face or torso damaged.

Without wasting a moment, her right fist juts forward with a quick jab aimed at Hurricane Hime's face. As she begins to draw her fist back toward her center, she slams her left hand forward with a palmheel strike toward the girl's torso. When her left hand reaches full extension, a dark violet energy bursts around it, enveloping both her hand and a good majority of her arm.

Hurricane isn't one to show any shame in 'borrowing' peoples movements. A lot of the time it's to make fun, but other times its a nod to people! But she's never really had the gall to outright copy the Diva's moves, they're a bit too tough at her level to use effectivly.

Hime shifts into a more defensive position once Arika moves in, withdrawing her book from her scarf to deal with the incoming attack... The book that's momentarily flashing wildly like a spider sense! She holds the book above her head and grips the bookmark, and when she pulls it out, tears out a giant, sword-shaped bundle of paper that Arika's strikes and then burst of energy slams into! "Hnngh!"

Hime takes a giant leap backward, fully unsheathing the weapon and swings it downward. The sword unwravles, taking a more ribbon-like property to try and snatch Arika by her ankle! Coming to a sliding halt, she jerks her arm to create a shockwave that, should it reach her opponent, snaps Arika right into the air and slam her back onto the floor. "Hyah!"

"You've been trainin'." A simple statement, and a nod to the fact that Arika -does- actually notice these things. She may seem indifferent a lot of the time, but she likes to keep an eye on those she's fighting against.

Speaking of...

As the ribbon like paper comes toward her ankle, the punk princess hops over it as though it were a jump rope and smirks. "Nice try." Though her words aren't many, she's actually conversing a lot more during this fight so far than many others.

With her hop over the paper, she continues on toward Hurricane Hime, her fist jabbing upward, aimed at an angle for the smaller girl's chin.

".. Huh?" Hime seems a bit caught off-guard by the compliment. Well, not that it's unusual for Arika to be commenting her, but during a fight? And then adding in some more? "Wow! You've changed, Citizen Fade!" the girl then chirps with a grin, and clearly not deterred by the evasion. "I guess in time I'll have you striking poses too, right? That'd be pretty awesome, admit it!"

The jab is quick, but Hime can actually see it coming! The angle hits her straight and true, her head snapping upward, and yet she manages to use it to her advantage! Before the swing is complete, she's in motion to strike back, but will it be fast enough? She twists in a full circle and delivers a fast spinning back-kick, standing instead of her usual flying trademark! "Kyah!!"

Has she -really- changed?

Perhaps.

"Doubt it," she remarks, her voice dry. Arika just cannot really see herself striking poses and acting the superhero.

Hurricane Hime's foot comes in swiftly, catching the punk princess in the small of her back. Staggering forward a few steps, she tries to use this to her advantage. As she draws nearer to the younger girl, her arms extend out and she tries to take hold of Hime by the shoulders. Attempting to lock the grasp, once she feels she has it secure she's got every intention of hauling the smaller girl off of her feet and tossing her toward one of the monuments in the center of the room.

"Heehee, well not at -my- level of course.." Hime corrects with a grin and pulls back from her stance. "You'll see what I mean by the matches end, you're definatly going to pose!" Even if she has to use... Escessive force. o_o

She notices the kick doesn't create a lot of distance, but that doesn't leave her without a backup plan! Hime's shoulders are indeed grasped, but that's about as far as she gets when she'll notice Hime reaching behind herself. And then she withdraws a large harrisen fan, it creating a trailing blaze of bright, white energy as she rockets upward in a corkscrew motion nailing the rocker under the chin and and carrying her upward, "Ghost Writer!!" she cries, scarf flapping downard, and then upward when she decends back to the ground.

Arika? Pose? Unless Hurricane Hime wastes fighting time in order to force her into some silly superhero pose, the diva is -not- going to pose. This she doesn't voice though, she just shrugs her shoulders up in response.

Then, there's a giant fan (what -is- it with her and getting hit by fans? SERIOUSLY!), that's suddenly cracking her beneath the chin and sending her skyward. Teeth grit together, but she doesn't cry out in pain. Catching herself in the air, she flips forward to stop herself from going through one of the lovely stained glass windows, and lands on the ground in a crouch.

As she raises to full height, she bounces back and forth on her feet. Right, left. Left, right. The rhythm of her 'dance' begins to pick up, her feet moving faster and alternating in a somewhat haphazard manner. Her body sways a little as she begins to move forward. Suddenly, she's drawing herself into a tight pirouette, her right leg chambering upward as she does. Just before facing the little Hurricane again, she snaps her foot out in an attempt to launch the younger girl backward.

Himeko... has a method to her madness! She knows exactly how she's going to do it after all! Well, first she's going to have to survive first, and that's the toughest part! The fan slipped back into her belt, she seems slightly taken aback by Arika's set-up, despite having mimiced it earlier! It's a little tough to follow, but at the last moment she's able to block the big swing with her textbook again, the kick slamming heavily into it and still sends her staggering back a couple of steps, "Yeow! Ok ok, maybe I'd better re-think that.. But I'm still just getting warmed up, are you ready?"

She springs forward, sets back her book and twists around with a much higher roundhouse kick now, though she's actually aiming more to hit her opponents shoulder then the actual head. Should she connect that strike, it's followed with a lower, sweeping kick!

Kicked in the shoulder as she attempts to side-step, the diva frowns. She'd curse, but she's pretty certain that it's not something she should be doing in front of a young, impressionable fighter. The sweeping kick catches her by surprise, and she lands on her rear on the mosaic tiles. Oof.

The 'oof' is not vocalized either, just more gritting of her teeth as her body makes a thumping noise.

Arika glares up at Hurricane Hime, her eyes narrowing to thin slits. Without getting up off of the floor, she swings her body around and then thrusts both feet up toward her opponent's torso as she kips upward.

That kick had a little more punch than she thought! Hurricane Hime can't help but whistle slightly to herself, "Yikes, I guess I went a little crazy there.." and then gives Arika a very sheepish grin in response to the rather dangerous look she's given as a result. ".. Eh-heh.."

A rather acrobatic move follows, and seems to catch the heroine off guard? She does make the motion to slip out of the way, but a slight misjudgement causes the blow to hit dead on, and send her flopping back to slam onto the ground herself, this time! But when she lands, she curls into a ball to roll backward and is on her feet. "Ow! Ok, time to get serious!!"

The little Hurricane bursts forward, high energy practically oozing out the heroine as she springs into the air and withdraws a ribbon of paper from her thigh holster. Hoping to lasso the paper about the girls neck she presses her back against the other womans and jerks forward to flip and slam Arika down onto the floor. "Seriously WACKY, that is!!"

With how sore Arika's neck and throat are from her impromptu sparring match with Drake the other evening, she's not about to let -anything- loop around it. Two days of talking with a scratchy voice was more than enough for her. Both of her arms slam upward, the paper lassoing around her right arm. She doesn't flip, however. Her body just kind of jerks forward before she grabs the paper with her free hand.

Smirking, the punk princess -yanks- the paper toward her in order to draw the little Hurricane closer. Should this work, her lassoed hand balls up into a fist and slams forward.

Hmn it's true, with a partner like Drake, it shouldn't be of any surprise that Arika may be better versed in holds, even if they are more unorthodox ones like the young Hime! She jerks and grunts, looking over her shoulder to see that Arika is.. Grinning. ".. Uh oh." Luckily, however, she's able to turn things around in the blink of an eye, with both her hands still gripping the lasso, the girl yelps and thrusts the band out in front of her, letting the big punch slam into it instead of her...

The paper doesn't bend, it's like her book is being hit instead! But the momentum contines and the girl ends up going flying past her opponent and slides belly first along the floor, and the lasso falls apart to litter on the floor. She handssprings to her feet quickly and turns around. "Th- That was good, I wasn't expecting that from you.. Unluckily for you, however, I've written about a counter attack! Lessee.." Her book withdrawn, she squints her eyes a little as she flips through the pages of her beloved book entitled 'Excalibook'.

"Adaptability," Arika explains. The grin has disappeared by now, replaced by a somewhat stoic and rather serious looking expression. She really should be taking a moment or two to catch her breath, but since it seems her opponent is busy flipping through a book it would seem a waste to just stand idle.

Racing forward, kicking up the littered papers as she moves along the mosaic tiles, the diva swings past Hurricane Hime. Her arm slams out as she attempts to catch the girl by the neck, twist about and then fling her into the nearest monument.

"Adaptability..." Hime repeats while dragging a finger down one of the pages. "... Ohhh yeah. Oh hey!"

The heroines grin broadens, seeming to be completely oblivious to the fact that Arika is suddenly blurring toward her, with the intent to lay down the pain! However at the last possible moment, she grips a few of the pages and rips them out sharply as she bursts toward her opponent, "Ah! But you didn't count on my TRAP CA--Hrrk!" the papers spew out like a photocopier and she ends up tangling herself up and falls right into the neck clutch and then goes flying from the flinging attack!

Needless to say, she slams into that monument hard, back first, and then flops to the ground, her left leg twitching slightly. "... Ungh. That was new, dang I got careless!" She'd slowly start getting back up, brushing off the paper.

"Trap card? This ain't bloody Yu-Gi-Oh, mate." Don't question the fact that Arika actually knows what that -is-. Never, ever question the diva's knowledge. Just chalk it up to the fact that she spends a great deal of time in hotel rooms with nothing to do but watch television, okay?

With Hurricane Hime remaining on the ground, the punk princess can't resist. She launches herself toward her opponent again, leaps up into the air and angles her body in such a way that she can fall pretty much atop the smaller girl. Before landing, she juts her elbow out and attempts to crash it into the little Hurricane's stomach.

It's a pretty tempting offer, Hime looks upward to see Arika coming down upon her.. And she's only that quick because Arika suprised the -heck- out of her with the correction, "Huh???"

But she can't get too excited about it, soon Arika's breaking out with some high flying antics, and her natural instinct is roll out of the way! "OOof!" It doesn't quiet work that way, she doubles upward, and rolls -afterward-, holding her gut with a cringe. But she's too her feet, running a finger along the bridge of her nose, "Pretty.. Ow.. Good! But I'm not done just yet!"

And it's true! She bounces lightly on her feet and then is withdrawing her paper slips from her holster again as she springs forward and tries to slap her palms onto Arika's hips. If she's successful, suddenly Arika is spinning like a tornado with the papers mummifying her form and sqeeeezing until it explodes!

Spotting hands slipping into the holsters, Arika frowns. She's come to realize one of two things about this movement - either she's about to be whapped silly with paper, or something laced with high amounts of chi is about to come her way. Normally, she would just try to get out of the way, but she's spun around before she's got a lot of time to react. Spinning, she tears at several of the papers, pulling them off and crumpling them to the floor in order to keep the explosion from hurting too much.

Success in this is minor, but it works well enough that she tumbles backward only a few feet instead of getting blown against the wall. "Hmmnph." Extracting a few smaller pieces of the remaining paper from her hair, she lets them drift harmlessly to the ground before she once more begins to dance.

Feet slid forward along the mosaic tiles, her head bopping along to a beat only she can hear. Each foot she draws closer to her opponent sees her give her head a swing to the right, in large circular movements. Reaching Hurricane Hime, her movements stop abruptly and her head lances forward to crash down upon the other girl's.

Himeko tries to keep on the pressure, but Arika's not allowing herself to get completely wrapped up so easily! The spin starts and then suddenly cut short, the punk rock princess eventually breaks out of her technique, making the heroine yelp in suprise, "ZOUNDS!" Yes. Zounds.

The diva is really pouring on the fight, and it's getting the heroines heart pumping! "Come on, at least you could grin a little after doing that, breaking out of that technique is no small feat! Plus you're dancing!" Excalibook withdrawn she takes a small step backward, and then grips the glowing bookmark again. Needless to say she's dealing with the next attack with her oversized paper sword again, it withdrawn halfway from it's sheath and Arika's head slams into it. That probably hurt a little bit and she has to cringe. Alas! She gives Arika a light nudge back, re-sheathes the weapon and finally counter-attacks by leaping straight up into a backflip kick, her back to Arika in the end. Once she lands she twists to the side in a wind up, then unwind and leaps forward, twists in the air in a horizontal spin, hopeing to smash two more kicks into her opponent with a slick and flashy butterfly kick!

Smile? Her opponent wants her to -smile-? Arika just sends her a scathing look, which only becomes darker after her head is sent crashing into the pommel of a paper sword. Eyes squeeze shut, and she pinches the bridge of her nose. She can hear Hurricane Hime moving, and she does try to twist herself out of the way, but winds up going in the wrong direction and goes flipping back against a chair. Wincing, she pulls herself back up and opens her eyes.

She's got a few options here, but still she doesn't stop moving. Grabbing hold of the arm of the chair, she flips herself atop it. Springing off of the arm, she sends her feet toward Hime's torso, trying to clatter the girl back to the floor.

Himeko's grin as a little more impish at this point, "Come on! Come oooooooooooooooooooooon, do it!!" she pipes, "I may be your opponent, but I'm a fan, too! Pretty please with a cherr- W- Woah, what are you doing?" Hime asks when she notices the chair being used for some high flying action.

A dropkick? Oh, she thinks of a fun way to deal with that one, she doesn't even need her book! As the feet rocket toward her she reaches to try to grab them and... Oops. WHAM!!!

Hime suddenly goes rocketing backward, the momentum just slings the heroine, her scarf flapping wildly and she smashes into a table, knocking over the one behind it in the process, chairs fly upward, YEOW! And yet, from the carnage, she manages to stand up, wheezing heavily as she holds the back of her head and gives a bit of an embarassed, pained laugh. "... I guess I had that one coming!"

Ouch.

Arika didn't mean to smash the poor girl into a table, knock furniture around, possibly break a few of the smaller wooden chairs. She winces -for- her opponent, but the concern seems to last just a moment. If Hurricane Hime hadn't stood up, she might have worried a little longer, but since the girl finds her feet quickly, it couldn't have been all -that- bad.

Her own breathing is quite a bit heavier now, beads of sweat can be seen dotting her brow. Still, the diva races forward. Hands set to her sides, her head dips down and she just rushes along the floor, planning on charging into the younger girl like a bull. Just as her head is set to crash into the shorter girl's torso, the punk princess means to reach out and grab her opponent by the hips in order to toss her up and over.

It probably wouldn't have been so bad if the girl hadn't flubbed up her counter! But she doesn't seem to be all that bad, if not looking a little beaten up now. But she otherwise looks like she could keep going for a while, people LOOK OUT! She jerks her shoulders back and forward, and drops into her fighting stance once she steps away from the mess and toward the charging Diva.

It's kind of tough to really decide what to do, because the move sort of just switches up on her and, caught in the brief hold, Hime is slung up into the air, "WOAH!!" she flips, and manages to land hard on the floor with a heavy THUMP. She seems a bit suprised, but then plays it off as if it were all planned, "Ha HA!" she bursts in a Saishu-esque manner. But then what's this? Arms immediately curl up around her head, to keep the energy-laced paper airplanes from zooming against her head. Arika grimaces as two of the planes crash right into her arms, and she can just imagine the poor little paper-people inside screaming in terror as they crash to the ground.

She has a very morbid imagination at times.

Instead of rushing toward Hurricane Hime this time, the punk princess backs up and begins to circle the other girl fairly quickly, hoping to kick up some of the loose paper on the floor. Arika isn't backing off in the least, only continuing her efforts to finish off the fight! The papers, however, doesn't do its job in distracting the girl, in fact, they almost dance about her body as she twirls around and lets the kick slam into her textbook. It seems both fighters are saving their trump cards!

She takes in a deep breath, and reaches behind her again as she stomps toward Arika. Run faster? Himeko's most natural environment is being surrounded by books; and paper helps too! Though there's always a chance Arika could have some sort of super secret technique?? Regardless, the heroine is actually -shocked- when Arika manages to avoid her twirling fan attack, "NO way!!!" and when she decends? Well she doesn't have many good choices for her.. Get hit, or get hit in a blaze of glory!! She swings her book outward, but whatever she had planned doesn't go off! The jab lands true, and then the palm strike? POW! Hime's knocked for a bit of a loop by the energized attack as well that sends her twirlings, crashing, and burning!

Thump! Hime flops face down into the ground, and is motionless for a moment. She grunts, pushing herself up from the floor, but then collapses again while holding her stomach. "Aurgh, rats.. I guess that's it for me, I need a little more training.."

Waiting to see if Hurricane Hime is down 'for the count', the punk princess peers over at her opponent. On the second collapse, Arika twists about and... DOES NOT pose for the cameras. Instead, she makes a sweeping bow and when she comes up out of it she blows a double-handed kiss at the nearest camera. Dipping her shoulder down, she looks over it and winks at the gathered crowd.

Ignoring their cheers, and calls for the little Hurricane to get back up, she makes her way over to her fallen opponent.

Reaching a hand down to the girl, she smirks. "You've gotten better," she comments, waiting to see if the girl will take the offered help. "Good to see ya ain't idlin' away since the tournament." She's not likely to admit it out loud, but that wasn't exactly an easy fight for her. "C'mon, mate. Get up and let's get ya checked out. They give ya a clean bill of 'ealth and Oi'll treat ya to a scoop of ice cream."

COMBATSYS: Arika has ended the fight here.

Curses!

She was close, really close to her goal, and she actually tch's lightly by Arika's refusal to pose. What a waste! The girl sits up and tries to pull herself back togeather, looking a bit apologetic to the fans. And then the hand of the punk rock princess is offered. She looks a little suprised, but the hand is accepted as she gets back up and suddenly is beaming brightly, "Haha! Yeah, I didn't do too badly, I think! But no way, I'm keeping busy, I have a lot to do, an-"

"ICE CREAM! Mega bonus, I don't need a doctor, let's go, let's go!" Hime, really, is just super pleased that Arika doesn't look so cross at her anymore. So.. That constitutes a 'Good End' in her book!
