Neo League 570 - #574: Aranha vs Katelynn

Description: Katelynn returns to her hometown for a Neo League match against Aranha. Will Philadelphia's hometown hero prevail? Or will Aranha lead Katelynn in a dance of damage? (Winner: Aranha)

Philadelphia, the City of Brotherly Love, had put in a request for some type of Neo League Match-up since the city has always been fairly big on encouraging tourism. What better way to encourage it by putting on a fighting showcase. And to do so they made available the Dilworth Plaza which sits right in front of City Hall and right across the street from JFK Plaza aka. Love Park.

They figured the best way to do this was to invite Philadelphia's own Katelynn Molina to represent her hometown. Masters Foundation executives had known that Howard Enterprises had been trying to match Katelynn up against Aranha for the longest time in a SNF and so they saw an opportunity to rub the this fight in Geese Howard's face. Plus on another level they felt that it was fitting that they would have a rematch in the same venue as their first fight which was a part of the Neo League.

The lower level of Dilworth Plaza was cleared completely to allow the fighters free reign to move about. Marble lined the ground in mostly gray with pink marble squares arranged in a rectangular outline of the gray marble. There was marble archways leading to either Suburban Station or the exits to the Broad Street Line both of which were completely blocked off to keep random pedestrians from being injured by the two fighters. There was also benches in a square with a large rectangular pot interspersed throughout with trees planted in them leafless this time of year.

When Aranha first arrives, he finds himself looking about the area trying to study the area trying to teach himself about the advantages of the current location in preparation for the fight. The sounds of the crowds can be heard from the upper levels and the faint sounds of subways can be barely heard if one was careful to pick it out.

Home sweet home in Philly. That's what Katelynn Molina's hometown is, except she's not here to visit her friends and family. Instead, she's here for a hometown match in the Neo League. This is one of her favorite spots, and she's more than excited to be here. She's already in her Karate outfit, and has been warming up for a few minutes now. As soon as she spies Aranha, she bows to him and says, "I look forward to facing you again." She smiles.

Aranha turns the moment he hears that familiar voice of Katelynn. The easy going smile returning to his face. "Likewise. Sorry I blew off our fight. I had family business to take care of." He pulls out a pair of Oakley Thumps and then unties and re-ties his spider web motif bandana, using the bandana to secure the mp3 sunglasses in place and turns them on.

After that, he takes off his denim jacket and tosses it to the side and begins to sway as he goes into ginga using the constant movement as a way of making himself harder to hit. When Katelynn shows that she is ready, he comes straight out of the gates with a spin before thrusting out with a side kick to test the other fighter's reflexes.

As soon as Aranha gets the match under way and goes into ginga, Katelynn assumes her standard Shotokan fighting stance in return. She may not be moving around as much as Aranha, but her form of defense is more about blocking rather than dodging. And that's a point she emphasises when Aranha attempts to kick at the Shotokan mistress.

Katelynn's arm goes down to deflect the kick away, taking very little damage from the defended attack. Attempting to capitalize on knocking Aranha's leg away, Katelynn goes for the gut with a swift punch.

It would appear that Aranha's movements seem to have amounted to something this fight. Aranha leg quickly recoils after it's deflected away And not wanting to let Katelynn capitalize on the attack he rocks away from the other fighter pulling his torso away from Katelynn's fist.

As soon as Katelynn draws her fist back, Aranha spins around and unloads another kick from his rear leg. An outside crescent kick directed right for the Shotokan fighter's jaw followed by a spinning jump kick off the other leg.

As Katelynn sees the incoming attack, she braces herself for it. Unfortunately, this one looks like it could hurt a bit, but Katelynn's ready to take the pain. As soon as she's hit, she spins a little to the side, and you'd think she's dazed and confused now, right?

Well, you're wrong. It seems that Katelynn had an ulterior motive in mind. By letting Aranha get the upper hand for the time being, Katelynn has gotten herself into a better position for a return attack of her own. She attempts to grab Aranha by the shoulders and throw him across the arena.

Aranha's keen eyes know the difference between a slow attack just happening to be threaded into the right spot at the right time and when someone just isn't moving out the way. Aranha knew the moment that Katelynn began to spin off of his attack he'd better be ready to act fast.

Aranha's own vigilance is rewarded when he grabbed and tossed. He has the presence of mind to grab on to Katelynn's arm keeping him from getting flung away from her and then swinging his hips over to land on his feet. It's a slightly jarring landing but he still maintains control of the fight for now.

Aranha releases her arm but he doesn't give her a moment of peace because soon after he drops to the ground scissors his legs around hers and then twists his hips over to drop the other fighter onto her back.

As Aranha comes at Katelynn, the Shotokan fighter seems a bit uneasy, almost as if there's no way out of this. But is she really that inconfident? Think again, because she's got a surprise in store for Aranha!

Just as Aranha comes at Katelynn, she twists her upper body sideways while extending her right arm outward in a fierce palm strike, aimed right at Aranha's stomach. If that's not bad enough, there's also the fact Katelynn focused her chi into her palm at that time, adding to the impact.

A nasty surprise indeed. Aranha doesn't even have a chance to get in a good lock on her leg before the palm is driven into his stomach causing him to drop to the ground like a pound bag of flour. Often, a motionless Capoeirista is a dead one and he decides to keep himself moving.

Aranha suddenly pushes himself off the ground and into a handstand snapping off a rapid series of kicks for the other fighters head in an attempt to apply pressure to the other fighter.

In Shotokan Karate, one of the primary principles is that it's more of a hard style, meaning that sometimes it's better to block rather than avoid attacks. And that's a principle that Katelynn adheres to as the kicks come flying at her. Utilizing defensive techniques she's learned over the years, Katelynn manages to keep herself from getting hit too hard.

"Not bad," The fighter thinks to herself as she steps back. "This guy's got my blood going good. I haven't had this good of a fight for awhile." Katelynn steps back, watching her opponent carefully while moving to face him carefully as she does so.

The fact that Katelynn blocked wasn't much of a surprise to him. Most people's instinct is to raise their guard the moment they see fast kicks raining down on them. In a way it's logical. He is surprised that Katelynn didn't pounce the moment he began letting up on the kicks.

Aranha doesn't let the surprise get to him too much and he decides to take advantage of the lull to drop out of the handstand then spin into a crouched position before thrusting out foot right for Shotokan fighter's stomach while maintaining a smile while he searches for an opportunity to open up with a few more attacks.

As the kick comes at Katelynn, she brings her fist back and charges it with chi. She intends to blast Aranha with a blast of energy in the form of a bluish sphere, but her timing is way off. She's sent staggering by the kick, and a bit stunned by it too.

Aranha seems to caught a break in the fact that his kick goes through. The Dancing Spider's smile seems to grow bigger upon landing the shot but he needs to begin moving again. He gets up from the crouched position with a quick spin and then instead of the dance he runs at Katelynn with a speed that seems nigh suicidal before hopping up and landing a foot on the Shotokan practitioner's hip with a good impact before attempting to kick off of her and then landing on a bench and then going up into the trees next to it.

Pretty swift maneuvering on Aranha's part, which is why Katelynn utilizes some careful defense once again on her behalf. Although her defense succeeds yet again, she's starting to feel the after effects of all this fighting. She steps back a little to one of her assistants, who gives her a squirt bottle full of Gatorade or something like that, to help while she catches her breath.

Aranha normally wouldn't let someone catch a breather during a fight but Aranha decides to hold back this time trying to figure out his next move but he also doesn't want to make it boring for the spectators either and so what does he do?

Aranha drops back down from the tree and places one hand on the marble ground with a swing of his arm, he goes up into a hand spin before stopping the hand spin so that he faces Katelynn. He then extends one arm out beckoning her come to him. With a playful tone of voice he says, "Come into my parlor.."

"Come into your parlor? Well, if that's what you want," Katelynn replies as she shoos her assistants away, before slowly approaching her opponent. She's keeping a steady eye on him as she does so. Her approach gets slower and slower, as if she's getting wary... and then she jumps into the air, attempting to deliver a swift kick to Aranha's face.

Aranha watches as the Karateka moves in while he was upside down but after so many people had gone after his sunglasses tries to salvage them by moving out of the way. That is what undoes him because any other sensible capoeirista would used their free hand to intercept the kick to face or delivered a kick as they were moving in.

Aranha falls down to the ground while the kick shatters his Oakley Thumps. While he is prone on the ground he looks as though the attack hurt him much more than it actually did and then all of sudden Aranha springs up from the ground lashing out with a powerful glowing kick right for Katelynn's head then completing the spin back to his feet. That smile he had earlier? Gone.

As that powerful kick comes right for Katelynn's head, her arm comes up to deflect it away, albeit slightly more painfully than she expected it would. As a result, she staggers backwards, shaking the pain out of her arm, although it's only a temporary problem. She shakes it off one last time and regains her stance.

In addition, if she once showed a sign of smiling previously, it's completely gone now. A frown adorns her face as she advances on her opponent. It seems her patience is wearing thin, and that's why her next attack is a punch aimed right at Aranha's chest.

The traceur/capoeirista begins to watch as Katelynn moves towards him and then as she releases the punch he jumps feet first at her as she throws the punch aiming the kick specifically for the shoulder of the arm that blocked his somewhat improvised chi engulfed kick, getting clipped in the process.

Getting clipped by the attack doesn't stop him from moving and so he kicks off the Karateka towards wall, grabbing the edge of the marble railing on the upper level.

He then muscles himself up, jumps up and over Katelynn and begins running towards the revolving gates of the Broad Street Line. But he doesn't go through since the revolving gates don't allow people to go through that way.

Katelynn's going the wrong way on a one-way track right now, as her simple attack was countered by Aranha, and left her rather bruised and bloodied. Still, she gets back onto her feet and dusts herself off. She's not about to give up to Aranha just yet. Not when there are countless fans still cheering for her.

"Not bad, but can you handle this?" She says, before throwing a swift kick with her right foot while using her left foot to literally thrust herself forwards through the air at a rather fast rate of speed, aiming right for Aranha!

Aranha's feet are fast. And he should on paper be able to outrun that kick but then he makes the mistake of stopping and turning around instead of continuing the run or dropping into a roll before turning to see what Katelynn was up to.

The Dancing Spider catches a foot to the chest and is sent skidding on the cold marble ground before he gets back to his feet. He doesn't move fast but he performs a hop and then sends another kick to the stomach but he doesn't depend on speed but rather careful precision to do what needs to be done.

Power can be a very useful thing, especially when you know how to use it. Unfortunately for Katelynn, Aranha knows what he's doing, since her attempt to use her Palm Blaster leaves her very vulnerable, sending her into a set of turnstiles, which really huts even more than the attack itself. She's really out of it for now.

Aranha realizes that luck, even if he rather not depend on the fickle mistress, played a very important role in what happened to the Karateka. Aranha had wearing Katelynn down in mind when he delivered the kick. The factor of Katelynn attempting to stop it with a counter attack just ended up making his task of wearing down the other fighter easier.

Aranha decides to further take advantage of Katelynn's already bad situation by sending a blue glowing roundhouse, followed by another glowing roundhouse since there isn't as much room for him to manuever before finishing the combo with a third glowing roundhouse thrown downwards as opposed to laterally like the first two. The tight situation forcing the Dancing Spider to modify his Aggressive Dance.

Even in her wounded state, Katelynn proves that a good defense can be your best ally when you're in a tight spot. So no matter how tough Aranha's attack might be, Katelynn still blocks him. By this time, some of her assistants have found their way to her, so she takes the opportunity to quench her thirst and take another breather.

This time, Aranha refuses to let the Karateka, catch a breather without having his foot in her face. Even as she drinks he drives a knee right into her ribs. He has changed focus back to speed hoping to finish her off before she catches a second wind.

Aranha's body is driven backwards by the blue sphere and is sent rolling backwards comically. When the traceur/capoeirista comes to a halt. He rises slowly to his feet, swaying, dancing as he watches the Karateka. He's absolutely convinced that to charge in blindly is folly. Instead he studies both Katelynn, and her stance as well where her movements lead her as to best take advantage of the environment.

WIth Aranha on the defensive, and Katelynn at a low level of steam, you'd think she'd be ready to throw in the towel. Well, only a wimp throws in the towel, and Katelynn is no wimp. She's a fighter who goes at it untill it's all over. And somehow, despite her being a bit tired, Katelynn still manages to deliver a swift roundhouse kick aimed right at Aranha's face!

Aranha's entire body glows blue the moment Katelynn raises her foot to throw her roundhouse kick and then he jumps right at her glowing feet first just as the foot hits his body a driving his foot deep into her stomach before launching himself back up into one of trees. He swings up on top of a branch before hopping up to the marble railing and then shooting himself feet first to drive his foot into her. Over and over from a variety of angles and speeds he aims for that same spot, not giving Katelynn time to put up a defense against him as he attempts to further wind the already winded Karateka.

Eventually the kicks finally stop and he pushes off of the other fighter to drop into a roll before turning to watch the other fighter.

Katelynn is unable to avoid the attack that hits her in the exact same spot numerous times. It leaves her battered and bruised and out of wind. She's got no stamina left in her tank, and the ability to fight is gone. But before Aranha gets comfortable, he'd better be ready to take one last strike from Katelynn.

"Eat this!" She shouts as her body glows cyan and she rushes at Aranha, attempting to deliver a swift flurry of punches and kicks that have been carefully choreographed by Katelynn herself into her own personal kata. If Aranha doesn't look out, he could be on the receiving end of a lot of hurt.

Unfortunately, the kata hits nothing but air, and Katelynn ends up going straight to the ground face first. As her assistants rush to check on her, the official signals for the end of the match, awarding the fight to Aranha.

The attacks are fast. Aranha has trouble at first staying out of the way of the flurry of punches and kicks, weaving to and fro, flipping and cartwheeling as he struggles to avoid each and every blow.

Eventually it gets easier for the Dancing Spider. It's hard to say whether Aranha finds his rhythm mid way through or if the fight has just gotten to Katelynn too much for her to continue putting forth that speed. Needless to say, the bruised, battered and singed Capoeirista gets out of that particular combo completely unscathed. He is breathing quite heavily. The fight had taken its toll on him as well.
