Hakuya - New Arrivals

Description: The new girl at school wants to practice her skills, which is why she came to Gedo rather than one of the other schools. Seeking out strong opponents, she finds one in the Guardian King member Suigetsu Hakuya. No introductions really needed between the two, they simply seek to fight, and it ends up with Stasya gaining the respect of Hakuya as well as the rest of the Gedo students.

Hakuya was one of the more seriously injured of the Guardian Kings during the Jinchuu tournament, perhaps even more than Kenji was. Yet, while Tenma had his swollen eye and various other cuts, and Kenji had his broken arm, both impeding their ability to act, Hakuya had... just a bandage over his nose, where Nikolai broke by kicking him square in the face. Between the three, he looked the most able, therefore, he was booted out to go get lunch. Likely, even if he had a broken arm, like Kenji, he would've been sent to fetch lunch anyway, because for some odd reason, despite the cheerfulness of the grappler, Hakuya was really, really good at cheating at games of chance. He didn't even know why, he was just particularly good with his hands, it seemed. And beyond that, he enjoyed getting his friends lunch while they rested. Despite the fact that, other than his one visible injury, he had a gouge through his shoulder, two or three healing ribs, several very bad bruises, and a patch of skin on his right side that was likely going to be a very embarrassing scar, much like the ones on his arms, for the rest of his life. Getting shot with lasers kind of sucks like that.
'Getting lunch' meant only one thing. Games of chance to steal other kids' hard earned lunch breads, milks and sometimes even a homecooked bento or two. Though Kenji, Tenma and Hakuya all had stacks of cash from SNFs and Jinchuu itself (though Hakuya's money always seemed to mysteriously disappear whenever his aunt got a hold of it), why should they spent it on mere lunch when they can take it from other people? This was Tenma's point of view, and Hakuya simply went along with it, because he saw no reason why it shouldn't happen. After all, it was just lunch, and just fun and games, right? The current game of choice was dice. Two dice were rolled into a bowl, and the person betting would call out odds or evens, guessing the total outcome of the dice. Anyone with a keen eye - and these 'mere students' of Gedo didn't really have that - would see that Hakuya is cheating, deft finger manipulations making the dice fall as he wants them to. Smiling, he sits next to a rather sizeable pile of lunch breads and drinks, and even one bento box. The other students don't look too happy. "It's my lucky day, it seems. You guys just aren't having any at all today. Maybe we should break for now?" Hakuya says this with one of his patented vague cheerful smiles, which was likely another reason Tenma and Kenji sent him to get their food. No one would even think Hakuya was capable of -considering- to cheat. Not with his laid back, cheerful personality.
Just look at that smile. It's like this: ^_^. That wrestler dude on SNFs couldn't possibly smile that awesomely.

Yet again, the dice come up favorably for Hakuya, and a muffled groan goes up from the students around him. The aura of mounting despair radiating out from around the Suigetsu heir and his pile of breads soon attracts the attention of a new student, who'd managed to avoid this mass punking primarily by not being present when Hakuya suggested his little 'game.'

For some time, Stasya just stands a short distance away, arms folded, watching Hakuya's movements carefully as he tosses the dice. Grey eyes narrow slightly the longer it all goes on, her suspicions aroused as to Something Untoward taking place, and eventually the girl gets interested enough to break from her position and come closer. It's not really because she's interested in the plight of those being cheated-- she is not quite so kind or moral as that. It's more that she herself has great familiarity with-- and little tolerance for-- such splits between intention and outward demeanor.

That, and she's bored and curious as to whether her suspicions are correct.

"You are quite good, aren't you?" The knowing voice, directly at Hakuya's back, sifts calmly over his shoulder: the Japanese passable, but heavily accented. Eventually Stasya steps to one side of him in a slow circling, moving so she can get a better look at Hakuya. "Your hands. Very quick." The implication behind her smiling, amiably accusatory phrase is hard to miss-- though it might go over the heads of the swindled students.

Then she gets a good look at Hakuya. She frowns, those big grey eyes going half-lidded with thought. "You look familiar. You are a fighter, yes?"

The implication of dear sweet Hakuya, cheating?! Of course it goes right over their heads. Though normally a student like Hakuya wouldn't be well accepted in a place like this, his kindness quickly being warped to bitterness in the face of bullies and the like, the Suigetsu heir was, comparatively, very strong, which earned him a lot of respect from his peers. That, combined with his gentle demeanor means that he's generally well liked, and very few would consider him capable of deception, certainly not in the way of stealing their hard-earned lunches, right?

The funny part is the comment seems to go right over the head of Hakuya, as well.

Blinking a bit at the unfamiliar voice, the Suigetsu heir looks this way and that, before finally the owner of the voice steps out so she can get a better look at the grappler, allowing he one of her, as well. Looking a bit guileless and indeed vacant as he looks up at Stasya, the hoodie-wearing teen soon offers one of his smiles up at the new girl. "Huh? Well... I suppose they are. Have to be, given..." he trails off a moment as the girl says he looks familiar, and then bobs his head at the question. "That's right, I'm a fighter." There's another pause here as he considers the girl. "Does that mean you're one, as well? I don't want to sound rude or anything, but there aren't many girls at our school for a reason, usually. It must mean you're very strong!"

For a moment, Stasya looks completely blank at the fact that Hakuya appears to have completely missed her insinuation. Her expression even smoothes away, the veiled look of it gone into mild bewilderment: her arms slackening out of their smug cross. She simply looks at him a moment, the wind out of her sails at his completely disarming demeanor. And then she returns his smile: but crookedly, the look absent any real warmth. Her hands shift to her hips, the girl regarding him with ill-disguised amusement.

This guy -must- be good. How does a kid like this survive at Gedo without being strong? She's not been here long, but she's certainly been here long enough to know what the modus operandi is at the school. In fact, the environment was part of why she elected to come here. Her father had had some things to say, certainly... but in the end, he had acquiesced. Stasya wanted a competitive environment, she could have it. It was only one year, after all, and she'd always done well in school before.

Still, there are other ways in which it's obvious Stasya doesn't quite fit in at Gedo. For one, she's one of the few students to actually attend classes. ...most of the time. Though she does refuse to wear the uniform.

"I would like to think so," is her wry reply. "Enough so, I think, to be handling this kind of school." She falls silent a moment, regarding him-- then abruptly, her studying look cuts into a grin. Is she a fighter? "I have studied-- and I came here to improve. Perhaps you would show me just what kind of strength I can be expecting here."

The really odd thing about how Hakuya treats the comment concerning him cheating is that it's pretty obvious he not only didn't get the insinuation, but doesn't even look like he might think someone is onto him. Or, even if he thinks someone is suspecting, he doesn't care to hide it. He's a very honest sort of person, despite the fact he's cheating at games, it seems, which is indeed weird, given that most of the companions he has around him at the moment, trying to win the 'pot' of bread don't look to be the wholesome sort, with a number of scars, beard stubble, and general gruffness. Hakuya, with his neat, cheerful appearance (despite the bandage on his nose) certainly stands out.
"I'm sure you are!" Hakuya chimes in as Stasya claims she 'would like to think so'. But then the smile fades as the girl asks him to demonstrate what kind of strength she could expect. Blinking a few times, he tilts his head and seems to consider this, before turning back to the group he's with. "Sorry guys, I think that's enough for today. You can try winning the pot tomorrow, if you like?" There's a number of groans as people, intent on getting their bread back, seem dissatisfied with Hakuya's abrupt ending of the gambling bout. And yet, just to cement just how different the Suigetsu heir is, he reaches over into his pile of bread, and offers a single bread each to some of the losers. "So you don't starve between then!" Normally that kind of behavior would earn a glare, because it would be an insult to a man's pride. And yet they know Hakuya means well, so they accept it. If begrudgingly.
As the crowd backs off (they don't disperse - they heard the conversation, there's gonna be a fight!) Hakuya stands up, and turns to Stasya. Rubbing the back of his neck with one gloved hand, he offers the girl a smile, and says, "Well... I'm not the strongest here by far. My friends are much stronger than me. But if you like, I wouldn't mind sparing with you. It should be fun!" His hand drops, and his smile grows wider, the same vacant cheerfulness coming over his features. His left leg slides backwards, and his hands go up in a traditional fighting stance, excepting that his hands are open, rather than clenched closed, and his posture is more relaxed, leaning backwards some rather than into the fight. He motions with his forward hand in a 'come fight' gesture. For some reason, he's still smiling.

That smiling harmlessness is part of why Stasya is quick to let him off the hook where that bread is concerned. It's true she despises dishonesty, but... Hakuya is so blatantly honest and guileless, even despite his current activity of choice. She can literally feel that cheerful straightforwardness from him, radiating off him like heat. It nonplusses her, his behavior in conjunction with that sensation, and as such she doesn't think on it too hard. She already can tell trying to think about this kid rationally will be nothing but a headache; and so she lets her senses guide her where Hakuya Suigetsu is concerned.

Besides, she isn't interested in psychoanalyzing the student body of Gedo. She's interested in fighting them. And Hakuya seems willing enough to humor her in this regard. She waits patiently enough as he shoos off the losers, offering them breads as consolation (yet another baffling behavior), her attention already focusing itself onto Hakuya until she's tuned out all their surroundings.

It's entirely likely that Hakuya is simply being modest, but Stasya elects to take him mildly seriously. "Then I will be having to meet your friends as well," she murmurs. Her bookbag slides from her shoulder as her stance slackens and her arms open, the thing pushed off to one side with a deft kick. He seems content to remain on the defensive-- or perhaps he's simply waiting to see what she's got. But she's not quite so patient.

She whips forward quickly, seemingly reckless in taking the opening move. Her energy spikes as she chambers an arm back, and an abrupt flash of red light sparks from along her arm, the flare bright enough to momentarily hide her form and blind onlookers. It focuses quickly down to a keen edge plated along the back of her arm, one which she swipes in a quick horizontal at Hakuya's chest. Two things can already be deduced from this first move; one, the girl is pretty aggressive, and two... whatever she's using isn't chi.

The other students would know: Hakuya -is- being modest. But that's just how Hakuya operates. The crowd begins to cheer as the two prepare for their fight, some shouting taunts, others jeers, some advice, and a very few encouragment. After all, who cares if they like Hakuya? He's gotta be jeered just as much as the rest of them need to be. It was the way of things in Gedo. But the crowd goes into a kind of stunned silence as Stasya makes the first attack, as Hakuya requests, and some crazy ass 'chi' goes on. Literally the entire student body stops, either to shield their eyes or just to stare as the girl forms what looks like a blade of blood red energy from her hand, and stabs at Hakuya with it. The hoodie-wearing teen is likewise just as surprised, and had Stasya attacked him with such a technique a few months before, he would've been a little less prepared to deal with it. As it is, the smile simply fades in favor of a few blinks, and Hakuya stands stock still as the blade is shoved into him. There's a stabbing sensation, and the Guardian King grunts low in his throat, his hoodie splitting open at the slash, and a small spray of blood coming up, the white material being stained.
Yet, this isn't a few months ago. It's now, and he's had quite a bit to deal with the past few weeks. Jinchuu had taught him much. So, even though the blade hits him, he doesn't reel back or stagger in pain, but rather leans forward, and moves to strike at the very instant Stasya's attack lands, no doubt attacking a bit sooner than the girl might think. His right hand moves forward, and he aims a palm strike directly into her sternum, heel of his hand impacting in a sensitive place. He'll then, if successful, step forward and bring his leg about to the back of Stasya's knees, intending to sweep them right on out from under her, sending her to the floor.

Her hit connects, and Stasya grins a little, the expression fey. But it's not because she's got first blood; not even due to anything related to Hakuya at all. It's the crowd reaction that works that little expression out of her focused calm: the way the whole crowd stops and goes quiet. Never let it be said the girl didn't like to show off a little from time to time. She's spent too long remaining purposefully in the background, holding back so as never to be noticed or regarded too closely.

The look wipes away quick. Stasya relies on reading her opponent in a fight, on reacting quickly to what she observes, and she can't do that if she's busy thinking other thoughts. She focuses again, trying to pull away to avoid retaliation, but Hakuya reacts quicker than she expected. He'd leaned into her strike just to get that advantage, she realizes, and that fact makes it hard to get away.

Stasya hisses out a breath as Hakuya's strike hits home, hitting the ground on her back as he sweeps her. Reacting quickly, she flips over and throws her weight onto her hands, entering a rudimentary handstand as she snaps her legs at Hakuya in a scissoring kick. The move looks like a bastardized form of some capoeira move-- like au batido-- which is odd considering how she opened the fight.

Hakuya isn't really one for showing off. Tenma could get into it, and no doubt Kenji never disliked attention, but Hakuya's perception of attention showering was neither positive nor negative. He neither hated it, nor liked it. So it's easier for him to simply ignore the jeers, taunts and cheers in favor of the fight at hand, and really, considering how fast Stasya is to attack him again once she's swept to the ground, it's likely a good thing Hakuya remains focused. Even then, the feet shoot out too fast for him to really be able to do more than stand there and take them, again, but this time rather than leaning into the attack, he does something different. The first kick hits him square in the stomach, and he reaches down to grab Stasya's foot by the ankle. Wincing a little from the pain (that almost hit his tender ribs!) he grunts out as he steps backwards, and pulls Stasya with him, using her momentum and his strength to lift her up and over him. The attack isn't finished, though, as he pivots on one heel, twisting a full one-eighty in place and bringing his foot up as he does, in order to drive the heel of his sneaker into the psi-user, sending her crashing back to the ground a little faster than she would have, had she merely fallen.

The instant Stasya feels Hakuya isn't moving out of the way, a little mental 'uh oh' pings in the back of her mind. It's a prophetic sort of thought, as the Guardian King soon demonstrates he's got something in mind for the girl. Her ankle snared, she has little choice but to go along for the ride as he hauls her clear over his head and spikes her clear into the ground. Stasya hits, somewhat winded, a quiet sound of pain kicked out of her as she skids a short distance.

One hand eventually smacks down to stop her progress, the girl resurrecting slowly off the ground with a slither of blonde hair across one dipped shoulder. A hint of a smile patterns across what's visible of her face as she pulls herself upright, focusing on Hakuya as she rolls the complaining shoulder that'd hit the ground first. "It seems I will be having to pay more attention," she notes: never one to like being outdone, but also never one to deny it and look bad.

That, and she's using the time to really gather herself and lock onto Hakuya, as it were.

COMBATSYS: Stasya focuses on her next action.

Regaining his footing quickly, Hakuya once again adopts his usual fighting stance as he faces Stasya, the girl rolling away from him with the force of the attack he'd just done to her. He doesn't immediately move to attack, but rather allows her to get back up, his stance dropping into a more casual posture, though his guard certainly isn't lowered. "Perhaps, but you're doing quite well... I'm surprised! You're even stronger than I thought," he says and offers another smile, which persists through him putting up his stance again, and even as he leans forward and begins to run towards her. Closing the distance quickly, he seeks to grapple with the Russian girl, except in a slightly unusual way. His arm extends out to his side, and he aims to catch her into a clothesline attack, his arm wrapping about her middle if successful while he continues to run forward a short distance. He'll then stop, heel digging into the cement as he does another full 180, but this time seeking only to transfer as much kinetic energy into Stasya before he throws her to the ground once more.

Stasya's blonde head dips briefly, a dry smile pulling at the corner of her mouth: sardonic acknowledgement of Hakuya's compliment. In truth, she's admonishing herself about keeping up on her practice-- Hakuya is clearly a notch above the other Gedo kids she's observed thus far. She braces instantly as he comes in towards her, watching carefully to discern how he's intending to attack. Her stance goes wide in the last instant before impact, her hands catching his arm as it sweeps in towards her and her slight frame sliding back some distance as she slakes off his momentum; she shoves away from him then, kicking away in a backwards leap that gets her clear of his followup.

She comes back in quick, snapping forwards in an abrupt aerial cartwheel ripped off from capoeira; if Hakuya expects another kick, however, he'll be disappointed to find that the followup is a quick blow with the heel of her hand towards his jaw. Should that connect, she'll launch immediately into a series of three kicks, each bleeding red with bladed psi energy. An uppercut kick to the jaw, then an abrupt downswing of that same leg to smack her heel into the back of his head and knock it back down again; finally, a full backflip that slams another kick hard enough to send Hakuya airborne.

Whoops. Kinetic control was a bit difficult, because it involved the other person staying relatively still. When they negate their part of the equation, balance gets thrown off. In this case, Hakuya's definitely gets thrown off, and he staggers a bit as Stasya puts herself clear of actually getting thrown to the ground. Hakuya twirls in a circle, and actually makes a comical 'Uwah!' sound as he does, barely managing to keep his feet. The crowd gives a bit of a laugh at this display, cheering Stasya on for such a good move. A few of them have been thrown by Hakuya - that shit hurts. But he gets his balance back fairly quickly, and he turns to keep up with what Stasya is doing. Again she proves a little too fast for him to mount any real defense, so he does what he normally does in these situations, and... leans into the attack. A rain of blows descends upon him, and he grunts as lines of blood appear on his face and shoulders from the 'bladed' kicks. But surprisingly, even more than before, the blows don't seem to affect him as much, and as he gets kicked straight into the air, he's ready for it, and he shows it by grabbing for Stasya's leg once more, pulling her into the air with him, or rather, in her case, higher into the air.
From there he'll begin his own series of blows. Flipping her up so she's in front of him, he'll aim a palm strike to her sternum again, following it up by another to her jaw, then her stomach, finishing it up by grabbing her and rolling with her in the air, intending on coming down in an elbow smash strike, putting her right between him and the ground.

Hakuya           1/---====/=======|===----\-------\0           Stasya

Mildly surprised at the seeming lack of effect upon Hakuya, Stasya is unprepared for the level of readiness he displays in reacting to her attack. Yanked right into the air along with Hakuya, taken by surprise by his choice of how to deal with her, she hasn't got the presence to mind to interrupt or defend against his retaliatory assault. All she manages to do is brace against his blows, reducing the damage by moving with or against his strikes as they come: experience in defending against all manner of different assaults helping her reduce the force she's hit with now.

The breath kicks out of her when the two of them hit the ground, Stasya first. Completely winded, it takes her a bit to recover her senses; but when she does, she's quick to get out and away from the boy, pulling free into a backwards leap and skidding to a halt on all fours. She doesn't go far, though, and neither does she stay away long. Soon enough she's attacking again, snapping forwards with a streaming rush of red psi. She weaves in on Hakuya in a fluid feint, seemingly shrugging off capoeira and adopting boxing; trying to get in close, Stasya attempts to hit critical points-- the insides of joints, the abdomen, the face-- as well as pretty much anything else she can reach, all with hands riddled in keen edges and sharp psi points.

Landing as he'd wanted, Hakuya has no troubles rolling off and away from Stasya, smoothly rising to his feet once more as the girl recovers herself. He dances backwards a bit as he gets his stance back up, and takes a brief moment to feel bad for Stasya. He'd come down on her a little hard... maybe he shouldn't have done that? But, despite Hakuya seeming to be the 'slow' type he actually had a fairly sharp mind, particularly when it came to people. And if he experiences with Pacific Resistance's girls were any indication, taking it easy on someone just because they were smaller than you, or of a different gender, or Irish, was most certainly not something he should do. So he doesn't apologize, doesn't even wince or give Stasya a sympathetic look as she rises to her feet. He just watches, looking at her, ready...
...For her to attack. And as it comes, Hakuya braces himself, intent on simply pushing through the girl's attacks once more. Certainly, he'd been doing too much of that. Her chi - which he's vaguely aware is not 'right' on some level - is painful, and certainly as she rushes forward to begin an oddly different manner of attack - this time boxing?? - he just stays still, intent on pushing through it. It hurts like a bitch, however, and he growls out in pain as the sharp psi spikes strike him in some vital areas, but he just pushes through. Literally, in this case, as he rushes forward and attempts to sweep her off her feet. No romanticism here, of course, because his intentions quickly become clear as he rushes forward to spike Stasya into the ground once, then before she's even had time to recover, leaning over to pick her up, then once again bringing her up, over, and down once more into a suplex. It ends with one final throw, this time picking up the Russian girl and rushing towards a nearby wall to simply slam her against it, hard enough that the concrete behind her cracks, indenting slightly from the force placed behind it.

Indeed, Stasya would have been furious if she'd felt that Hakuya were taking it easy on her in any way. Besides, it wouldn't be too startling of her to actually take advantage of any loss of focus that might ensue were the Guardian King to waste time feeling bad about anything he did. It'd be what he deserved for thinking she couldn't take care of herself.

Hakuya -doesn't- lose focus, however, and that fact means he's ready for her when she attacks. He leans clear into her blows, rushing forward once they start to let up and taking her off her feet. Blonde hair finally worms free of its loose binding as Stasya's thrown, going just about -everywhere- as Hakuya suplexes her. Her hands latch his wrists, a rudimentary brace, as he gathers her for that last.

Slammed up against the wall, Stasya barks a short sound of pain. A line of blood streams from her mouth where she's bitten through her lip on impact. For a moment she is quiet still, dazed and breathless; and then her grey eyes sharpen. Her body tenses, and her arms-- not pinned by Hakuya-- whip around hard at the boy, one slashing horizontally at his chest, the other crossing up from the opposite direction at a slanted diagonal. Certainly an action meant to get Hakuya to back up, at the very least: she's not in any condition to do any more afterwards.

Unfortunately, Hakuya must've not been focusing -enough-. Because even after all the throws - Stasya getting a number of sympathy 'Oooh!'s from the crowd - and as Hakuya slams the girl up against the wall, the last bit of energy the Russian has is spent with a short range attack that carves into him with two of those psi blades. The attack isn't something he's very prepared for, and though he tries to get his arms in the way, and tenses up for the blades to slice through him, the pain they cause is enough to get through even his defenses, which up until now was not inconsiderable. Staggering backwards, he falls back onto his hands and back, looking dazed. "O-Ow..." he mutters, his hoodie not really in the best of conditions now with those slashes tearing it open. Looks like he'll have to sew it closed again! ...And clean out the blood. "Y-your blades hurt," Hakuya says, and manages a weak smile while panting. He doesn't seem to be able to get up at all, so the crowd considers it a end to the fight. Certainly a particularly impressive, if short fight. The new girl will no doubt get much respect for beating Hakuya!

COMBATSYS: Hakuya takes no action.

COMBATSYS: Hakuya can no longer fight.

Released, Stasya hits the ground on hands and knees, coughing and still slightly winded from being smashed up against cement. She's in no condition to handle any more from Hakuya-- but luckily, it seems the boy is not prepared to give any more anyway. It would seem that, with this fight, Stasya has secured the right to be left alone-- from most of Gedo's student population, anyway.

Pushing her hair out of her face, swiping blood from her mouth, Stasya sits back: bracing her back against the cement with a wince. She seems in no condition to even reply Hakuya, at first... but eventually, a hint of a returned smile pulls at her mouth. "I know," she says succinctly, and leaves it at that.
