Description: Apparently the Kurogami and the Kamigawa aren't the only Japanese fighting families with a history of less than noble pursuits. However, when Kimi decides to test a descendant of the Tsukitomi clan's swordsmanship, she ends up with... something a little different than what she bargained for.
Welcome, fall! The year is coming to a close, and it's beginning to show in the surroundings and in the people of Southtown. The warm, wet feeling of sticky summer has passed and the biting cold wind of the approaching winter is beginning to make brief appearances. Bikinis and shorts are giving way to fleeces and scarves. And naturally, the bright green of the foliage turns to vibrant shades of red, orange, and yellow that decorate the trees and the streets, signalling the full swing of the school year.
At this time last year, Frei's typical clothing was black with gold trim, tied to the element of water with which he identified himself. After all, the Chinese consider water to be the element of deep thought and discernment, and that was what the monk wanted to embody. Now, however, he is dressed in the russet brown and orange of fall, including a pattern of chrysanthemums and other fall flowers embroidered into the fabric. He chose it after his master died, perhaps as a reminder that all things eventually fade, and that understanding that can in fact lead us to happier, healthier lives.
His outfit stands out, however, both in its coloration and the inclusion of the long-tailed matching headband, as he sits at a table in one of the Village's sidewalk cafes, reading (of all things) manga and sipping a coffee-related drink of infinite complexity: there may be caramel and sprinkles involved. He seems to be having a good time hanging out in his 'hood', as it were... a stark contrast to the somewhat somber and subdued Frei of late that his friends have consoled and chatted with.
Quite a bit of homework has been done as of late, though it would easily be confessed that it was more on Mizuki rather than any of her companions if one were to ask Kimi. After her match against the miko, Kimi's decided to lay low for a little while and catch up on a little research on other aspects of her 'rival' of sorts life.
Days like today aren't the ninjas favorite, but it most certainly beats out Summer, with Winter being the #1 season of choice. It is a nice enough day to do a little tracking of another one of the Glory Hounds members: Frei Tsukitomi. According to her notes, he's a swordsman of sorts? It'd certainly be worth looking into over the other members with that note in mind, and walking along the appropros sidewalk of the sidewalk cafe in question is the young woman, clad still in her school uniform, schoolbag in hand. However..
One moment she is walking, the next she is standing at the small gate just beside Frei's table, a very female and flirty air about her, especially when she brushes her fingers through her hair, (are those sparkles coming from them??) followed by an attention-getting sigh. Oh and as for -her- headband? She's brushed her bangs over it to hide her clan insignia a bit better. But only a little.
Sugar is fantastically distracting, though so is what appears to be one of the Excel Saga graphic novels. The first impression an observer might get of Frei, here probably at his most typical, is "jovial", even "childish". His youngish features and hint of freckle do not help the situation one bit, nor does the milkshake-looking coffee concoction he is drinking without the benefit of a straw, frequently giving him a mocha-stache now and then as he slurps it down.
The sigh, combined with the sense of movement, draws Frei's gaze up from his book; his green eyes are visible over the top of the pages as he turns them to Kimi, blinking once at her presence. The standing around can't just be for show, though the monk has no idea why the girl would want his attention. Still and all, he folds the book up and sets it on the table, giving Kimi a little wave as he wipes his mouth with a napkin. Something about the girl... looks familiar. Or is it just his imagination? "Afternoon."
As usual, Kimi has to be patient. Don't rush into the situation too quickly, but don't just let the situation drag itself out, either. One good look at Frei tells her that it's pretty likely she'll get what he wants. Look at him, reading his manga, and drinking such a.. Not-very-manly drink. He probably has never been hit on by a woman in his life!
The very thought causes the girl to draw her lips in to fight back a laugh, and once the amusement passes, the girl clasps her hands togeather, leaning forward just a bit slightly as well, with a cheerful little smile on her face. "Good afternoon to you, too! Heeey, do I know you from somewhere?"
The schoolgirl stands up straight again, drawing out her little round compact- the accessory made of plastic it'd seem, designed to look like wood. She clicks that open and glances into it. "Goodness, I should be able to place a handsome face with a name, shouldn't I? Now let's see.. Franky? ..Franz? Faye, was it?"
Something about the girl's demeanor draws a quizzical expression from the young monk. Perhaps hilariously so, since his youthful features and jovial expression make 'puzzled' a... well, let's be blunt. It's an adorable look on his face, his eyes wide for a moment. Of course, Kimi is wrong about not being hit on! There were those elderly French women in Paris, but they don't count. No, Frei is not always popular with the ladies. Perhaps developing one's fighting sense means that other, more specific radars go unloved.
But public recognition, well... the man is a world-class fighter with multiple television appearances. "It's 'Frei'," he offers, smiling genuinely. He makes a motion in thin air like tying a knot, adding: "Like what a rope does when it gets old? Though it's actually the name of a Norse god. I wasn't named for decaying mooring lines or anything." He leans forward a little to get a better look at Kimi, then hmmms. "You know, you look kinda familiar too. Have we met?"
Well if Frei wants a better look, the young woman will certainly provide it! While she is looking at her compact, she's quite subtly noting the monks expression as well and so far things seem to be looking oh-so-good. Yes, just a little more time and she'll be able to slam down the big question. "....."
Though when Frei finishes speaking, she continues to look at her reflection.
She looks it over a little longer.
And a moment longer still.
And finally she snaps the compact shut, with a much more inspired smile, "Oh yes, that was it; Frei! Frei Tsuki- ah- Tsuki.. Kissun.. Somethingorother! Oh I'm so embarassed how could I have forgotten something like that.." The ninja turns a bit to the side, the leg closer to the fence lifting quite upward- Luckily there aren't any pedestrians headed her way, but the skirt does skip up enticingly high while she steps over the thing, and is more careful with the following leg.
Yes, definatly now he should be putty in her hands, oh ho ho. "Hmmm, I'm not entirely certain we have met before, I suppose it all depends if the name of lil ol' Kimi Kurogami rings a bell.. Is this seat taken, Freya?" <3 As she asks the last question, she brushes her bangs briefly to the side, flashing her proud family name embroidered on the left.
"Renard," the monk suddenly supplies in a shockingly, sharp blunt tone. "My last name is Renard." Apparently he doesn't go by 'Tsukitomi' anymore.
Sadly, Mata Kimi, Seductress of the Orient, is about to meet her match. Not even Alma can profess a level of obliviousness that Frei commands in terms of dealing with the amorous advances of women. The problem, of course, is that he's not *hostile*, just *stupid*. This, of course, merely encourages the women to pour on the pressure until he cracks. Which... he never does. It's almost unfair.
He does, however, whistle at the athleticism of Kimi's vaulting the fence, and smiles at her genuinely. "Nope, have a seat." After all, this is the person who treated Safiullah to apple pie just because he asked nicely. There's a moment as Frei takes his mochafrappucinoshakealicious whatever with both hands and drinks a big honkin' gulp, wiping his mouth as he sets the cup down. "Kuro... gami. Doesn't sound familiar. And it's 'Frei'," he adds, almost as an afterthought. "Freya was his sister and I'm not sure I want to be associated with a female fertility goddess."
Ah, a whistle. Kimi actually expected something a littl more, but that will do for now. Please give the woman a moment to gloat to herself about how incredible she is. Maybe one day when she's free of her bindings, she'll take up an occupation as a professional man-killer. But she'll have to ponder that another time, as Kimi has to help herself to her seat and does so, crossing one leg over the other- No sense in nudging the chair back into place after all.
The blunt tone isn't enough to make the woman jump, the reaction a brief purse of her lips. She thinks it'd be.. Safe for her to assume that certainly is his last name! "Oh now now, Tsuki-Tsuki, you shouldn't go turning down a lovely womans pet-name.. You wouldn't want me running away now would you?" <3
"And you know, I agree, I don't think I'd want to be associated with a female fertility goddess either, that is something we have in common." Now you'd think she'd stop there, since there isn't anything else for Kimi to respond to. She just sort of stares at Frei.
And stares a moment more.
"Oh, and I suppose teeeechnically I'm from a family of assassins too. That's two things." Kimi murmurs much more lowly. <3
There's a faint twitch in the auburn-red eyebrows as Kimi not only 1.) persists in using his family name but 2.) does so in a way that can only be called ear-grating. Not an angry person by nature, Frei does shrug this off after a second or two, but... well. Let's just say if Kimi wants to keep her keel above the waterline she better get some pirates on the bilge pumps and fast.
Of course, she ALSO just admitted to being from a family of assassins, and that's... well, how do you respond to that? Apparently, in Frei's case, by tapping your fingers in order from pinky to index like a drummer: *da-da-da-dum, da-da-da-dum, da-da-da-dum*. At least the statement kickstarts what it is about the girl he finds familiar. She reminds him of a punk rock version of his mother, in a weird way. "Well, it runs in lots of families," the monk says, non-comittally. After all, he IS a Tsukitomi, even if he carefully distances himself from the bloodline. "I don't hold it against people."
Oh dear, did Kimi just end up taking seven steps backward in this conversation? All of her hard work for nothing? Even if that were the case, she's pleased, and it shows- She's certainly having a good time despite the seemingly less-friendly, or rather less-pleasent response.
She takes this opportunity to scoot her chair closer now so she can cross her arms on top of it, keeping solid eye-contact. "You don't.. Hold it against people. That's admirable, not exactly my way of thinking, but I can certainly see where that train of thought could come from."
"Yes, likely from a weak mind, I'd think. You know there aren't a lot of things in life that are more sad than leaving your past that's 'correct' behind, is there? Running away.." <3 Kimi smiles brightly, "Or maybe I'm jumping the gun and you're just being secretive? I'm sorry about that! Well either way, I'd like a chance to test my family's style against your own.. Pretty please? With a cherry on top?"
There's a certain electricity that starts to buzz in the air when a fight is on the horizon. Dedicated, longtime citizens of Southtown -- epsecially those who frequent the Village, with its proximity to a school lke Taiyo -- learn the sense the proverbial humidity in the air. It's as if there's a conditioned, even hereditary response to the sudden upsurge in tension in the area, like a barometer dropping. Crowds clear, store windows drop their shades. People start exchanging bets if they're the type.
Somewhere around Kimi's fourth statement, the barometric fighting pressure absolutely drops through the floor.
Already on edge about his family's style, the girl's too-sweet demeanor and effective insult apparently have the ability to try even the most patient of people... and Frei's pretty damned patient. Plus there's still something oddly familiar about all this, his initial impression about his mother aside. Like he was warned, maybe?
Regardless, Frei's actual response is to drain the rest of his drink. The damn thing was 650 yen, he's not about to let it go to waste. Draining the last with a loud slurp, he goes for his third napkin and wipes his mouth again, then stands up and glances at Kimi, raising an eyebrow. "I don't practice Musou Tenkei," he says carefully. If she knows the Tsukitomi clan were assassins, she surely knows the name. And the man isn't carrying a sword, not even a shinai or bokken.
Stepping gracefully over the chain into the sidewalk-street, the monk glances back at the Kurogami scion, then gets into... something of a stance. It certainly matches no recognizable -fu or -jutsu or even a -do. But it does say: I'm ready to fight. "But if you're in such a hurry to test yourself..." Frei clenches a fist, which bursts very quickly with a glow of red-orange light before he brings it down to his side. "...I guess I can oblige."

Right now there is a little devil Kimi on Kimi's shoulder and she's cackling like a little maniac toward poor Frei. Though the schoolgirl eventually gained what she wanted in the end, the overall execution was a little sloppy- She'll work on that some other time.
But she just sits patiently, seeming quite oblivious to damn near everything going on, the change of atmosphere? Doesn't flinch. The area starting to clear out and windows closing? That gets more of a, ".. They're closing already?" Which is of course only until Frei gets up after telling her something she's not... Very pleased with. Now its her turn for her eyebrow to twitch. But it's too late to turn away at this point isn't it? "Oh I see, that's a bit disappointing but.."
It's then that she stands up, hops up and then hops off of the dangling chain to quickly close the distance between herself an her opponent, the cheer clearly more difficult for her to keep up even as she twists her back to Frei and snaps her legs out in a split, one hand pressing at her skirt to keep from being -too- indecent. Obviously one of those feet are snapping out at Frei's chest. "Perhaps I'll make you wish you did practice it!"

She's certainly an... exuberant fighter. However, the monk decides to test Kimi's might in mortal (k/c)ombat rather than making a strong evasive or defensive effort. Which is to say, he wants to see how hard she hits so he walks right into the attack instead of getting the hell out of the way like a sane person. However, while the kick lands home with a *thud!*, producing a sudden exhalation of breath from Frei thanks to the pain, he doesn't actually... fall over. In fact, he stays right where he is.
And where he is happens to be 'the perfect location to strike back from'. "Ma'am, there's not much left on God's green earth that could convince me of that," he says solemnly, cocking back one fist even as he latches his hand onto Kimi's outstretched leg to hopefully hamper her escape. "But you're welcome to try anyway." Then he simply brings that fist forward right for the girl's collarbone, a blazing aura of gold shimmering around it. Can't hit girls in the face or the chest... even if they just smacked you in the tummy.

Not even a budge? While it wasn't the most powerful of kicks she's thrown, she definatly wasn't expecting the monk not to budge at all! It's almost intimidating....... Almost.
Actually it's more 'impressive' when she thinks about it, which she doesn't have time to do for long. Frei does succefully keep her from nimbly getting out of her way, but it doesn't take away her other option, which is bringing up her same sided arm to not-quite-successfuly deflect the punch in time. She gives an 'MMph!' of her own and falls back, luckily catching her weight with one foot and one hand, the other pressing at her skirt again.
"Oh, I don't know about that, I think if anyone could do it, it'd be me!" At that moment, the ground beneath the both of them freezes under them. This would give Kimi the opportunity to tap her grounded leg to Frei's side and scissor-sweep him onto the patch of ice. Her knees tuck in, she rolling away just in time for the large, crystalic ball of ice that materialized a few feet above them to come tumbling down at him like a meteor!

An unexpected attack, definitely fitting of an assassin... and one that works amazingly well, all things considered. Frei only notices the ice forming under his feet before it's just a little too late, and his attempt to get out of the way of Kimi as she comes in to knock him over is... well, 'comical' or perhaps 'vaudeville-esque' are good ways to describe it. He slips about with arms akimbo, just like in the cartoons... right before the ice crystal slams into him from above, sending him tumbling backwards away from the Kurogami fighter.
When he gets up, Frei slaps himself on both cheeks to snap himself out of the daze of the attack (and the chill), then glances at Kimi and actually... frowns. A rare occurance. "You know, some of this is starting to come together," he admits. And it is. Ice chi-using assassin around Mizuki's age? That can't be a coincidence, can it? "And for your sake, I hope you're not who I think you are." The monk suddenly whips both hands forward, glittering spheres of blue-white heading for Kimi and, when they get near her, collapsing inward into a burst of ice crystals. Let's see how she likes it.

A frown in Kimi's direction? Well that certainly can't be good news, the young assassin looks a bit confused, was it something that she said? Or maybe he doesn't like getting smashed by ice! "Hee-hee," Kimi snickers as she stands and ponders her next attack for a moment. "For my sake? Well I'm not sure if I should be frightened or flattered, Tsuki-Tsuki! I'm sure you'll figure things out that hard way."
Now wait a moment, ice crystals? That was about the last thing she had expected even if he didn't use a sword of any sort! When the girl sits up, that's when she realizes those crystals were formed moments -after- the explosion that ultimatly left her laying flat on her back. How does she take it? Well, she rubs the back of her head looking mildly embarassed, "Oh, I guess I should have been paying attention, sorry about that." <3
Actually that really hurt, even if she is playing it off otherwise! It'd be better not to underestimate his skills with chi from this point on. "Hmn all right let's start with your shoulders.." The ninja rushes forward, reaching out to try and take Frei's right arm and spin under it to twist once, and then a second time though the second would force the man to flip and fall onto his back. She finalizes this with a kick under the same armpit.

Frei 0/-------/---====|=======\=------\1 Kimi
Frei actually stops to scratch his head for a minute once Kimi makes with the falling over and then the cute laughing. Maybe she's not related to Mizuki after all. Ice and water aren't exactly the same thing. Still, they're close... and Frei knows very few people who actually use ice-based attacks besides him. In fact, Kimi may be the very first. But there's something about the girl's demeanor that just... makes him really want to throw all the effort he can into this fight. It's not that he's angry, per se... but for a slacker like Frei, 'motivation' can sometimes feel a little... strange.
As the Kurogami fighter rushes him, the monk blinks, and realizes that her initial grip on his arm is probably too quick and too secure to budge from... so he doesn't. Instead, he lets her get on with whatever she's doing, wincing in pain as she not only twists his arm around quite painfully, but also sends him toward the ground under his own weight as well. However, with a quick burst of speed the monk rights himself, landing *hard* on his ankles rather than his head, which also hurts quite a bit...
...but it also means that as Kimi looks to follow through with her kick, the monk can snap out a hand. His cheerful face is actually hellishly lit, for a moment, with the purplish glow of lightning as he suddenly channels a good number of volts into Kimi's body, before effectively tossing her aside. "Careful! I'm high voltage," he singsongs merrily.
Something actually seemed slightly odd at the end of her second throw, but it was ignored in favor of laying on some more hurt. But her bit of joy is cut short by Frei's very stunning counter-attack! It's in fact -so- suprising that she can't even fight back her cry from the sudden shock of violet chi this time?
Needless to say, from that point it's all too easy to toss her aside and she breaks the chain of the cafe when she lands.
The ninja sits up calmly, her smile clearly more 'forced' at this point, and her bangs cast a shadow over her deeply colored eyes. "That.. That was.. Different. Quite an impressive display, for certain. Minus points for the pun." Kimi springs to her feet and dashes toward the monk again, her fingers curled to resemble talons of a sort. The tips of her nails are aimed to press into Frei's forehead and then drag down just above eyes, "There seems to be something on your face." The rake swipes down the rest of the way, her opposite to lash out and cup the back of the monks head, forceing it into the pavement. "Oh, it's that silly smile of yours! Let me get that.."

Now things have gotten a little serious, looks like! The monk blinks at Kimi's indictment of his pun, but moreso at the ferocity of her counterstrike. He's actually too surprised to dodge, but he doesn't relish the thought of taking claws to the eyes either. Instead, he flings his forearm up in the way, catching her talon-like nails with it. Of course, that's only marginally better than taking it on the proverbial chin; the nails slice through the sleeve of the shirt and leave long, red tracks along the monk's forearm. On the other hand, it lets Frei evade the *rest* of the attack by yanking away just in time.
Stepping lightly across the pavement, he squares off once again with Kimi with a look of shock on his face. Which is a bit silly considering the woman TOLD Frei she was an assassin! "Whoa, hey, hold on! The pun wasn't bad enough to justify that!" he mutters. Well, if she wants to drag out the big guns, fine; Frei's got big guns of his own! Cupping his hands to his side in the classic pose, he gathers a sphere of pure white energy, surrounded by prismatic tendrils. Thrusting both hands forward, the sphere becomes a person-high Sakura-style shockwave of multielemental chi... slow moving, but dishing out serious hurt if it connects!
And because it's required in the licensing contract: "HAAADOOOUUKEEEEEEN!"

A light 'tch' passes her lips- She wasn't expecting Frei to get away from the full of her attack.. Lucky him. But still she appears to be pretty calm, drumming her fingertips lightly at her sides. "Oh, you're right there, that'd certainly be overkill. But I do find it a little humiliating letting you get this far on a style clearly inferior.." And here comes the blazing energy!
Kimi isn't very intimidated by it, just mildly confused that yet another kind if chi is blazing toward her. She claps her hands togeather, utters something under her breath and then thrusts her palms out, the energy slamming into them and while it does push her back, she manages to gain enough control to push the wave up and over her head, slouching just slightly afterward. ".. To your familys! What a waste of talent, it really.. Really makes me..."
Kimi tries to regain some ground, she sprints along the sidewalk, eyes training on Frei, and particularly his right arm. Once she's close she'd only hop a short distance, enough for her to deliver a crescent kick precisely at the space between neck and shoulder, her smile at this point a bit crazed. "Well it doesn't make me very happy, dammit!

Frei 0/-------/-======|=======\===----\1 Kimi
That... appears to have been a mistake.
Whatever it was Kimi said, it appears to have unlocked Frei's True Fighting Power(tm)... or at least bothered him so much that his typically divided focus -- a consequence of his permanent good mood -- has become uniquely and terribly focused. There's nothing wrong with Kimi's kick, but it ends up sailing through the air and connecting with nothing, the monk almost lazily twisting away from it, then vaulting backwards to land in a crouch. The monk's personal style is not exactly known for its use of acrobatic evasion... though perhaps, ironically enough, the sword style he rejected might have.
When he stands, facing the Kurogami fighter, it is with a terrible and unnatural coldness in his expression. "You may be right. This style... it might not be any good for killing people. It might not be a very... 'practical' style. But it's got its uses. I learned it for a reason. And if you can't fathom that there's other reasons to fight, well..."
Tossing his hands to his side, there's a sudden *burst* of power as Frei summons all of his will all in one go. It's not the slow burn of the typical way he does this: it's an immediate, focused upsurge in power, drawn from some very personal and rarely-touched place. His red bangs and the long tails of his headband are blown dramatically behind him as he regards Kimi, finishing his statement: "...you don't have a prayer of taking me down."
COMBATSYS: Frei gathers his will.

Kimi is , luckily, quick to regain her balance after her missed kick, and brushes her gloved arm along her forehead. She's mildly suprised by what she sees, is she.. Sweating? Profusely? Yes she is, and that is never a good thing, this fight is getting too close for comfort! "Ah ha ha.."
"Oh I can fathom plenty of reasons.. However if you asked me to fathom a 'worthwhile' reason, well then you'd have me at quite a loss, Tsuki-Tsuki." Kimi's tone hardly as pleasent.. There is the mild joy of annoying the monk in turn, but still! "It's embarassing me to fight you at this point, so I'm going to work on finishing you off if you don't mind."
And it seems Frei's giving her that moment on top of that. The burst of power, while impressive, goes ignored by the young ninja. Not a prayer of taking him down? "No, I am -definatly- ending you where you stand! Watch me!" She's got to make this technique count! Closing in the distance again with a dash, Kimi sprints, slides and tries to scissor her ankles at Frei's shins and twist to send him flat on his stomach. If she gets that far, a world of pain is certain to follow..

Frei 1/--=====/=======|==-----\-------\0 Kimi
Kimi's technique works... sort of. The scissor spread does indeed send him off balance, the monk falling... but unfortunately for the Kurogami fighter, he twists and falls *backwards* rather than forwards, curling his legs as he does so. It's not the most elegant defense -- he still exhales a sharp breath of pain as he lands on his shoulders, effectively, bopping his head on the street -- but it does make getting any further holds on him a little difficult as he rolls backwards and into a crouch.
Standing up, the monk dusts himself off. That stung, but he's actually none the worse for wear. He might not use a sword, but apparently when it comes to soaking up the hits, the man's no slouch. "Yeah... it is your loss," he says brightly, throwing the assassin's words right back at her. Whatever black mood he was in before seems to have evaporated... though those close to Frei might, after the past few weeks, have an inkling that he's simply compartmentalized and buried those negative feelings deep under the surface. "And Mizuki's gain." Two can play the annoyance game... provided his shot-in-the-dark guess is accurate.
Not wasting time, Frei ducks forward and reaches out for Kimi's arm, hopefully before she can fully stand up. If he gets a grip, he hops forward and, with one hand, swings the ninja assassin through the air and into the ground *hard*, earth chi manifesting as gravity to add weight to the toss, manifesting as a burst of green light when Kimi hits the ground.

"What??" So he finally pieced things togeather? Still that wasn't something Kimi was expecting Frei to blurt out at that very moment, but on the other hand, even in her rather awkward looking position, the shock is enough to bring her to the height of her evasive abilities.
Granted it's only temporary, but it works, considering she managed to jump and flip to the side away from the cafes gate this time. And she doesn't put too much distance between herself and her opponent. Excellent. She brushes off her forehead again as she steps forward and fires off three reverse roundhouse kicks, the first heel aimed for the jaw, the second for the waist, and the final a sweep at the ankles. "Just who's gain did you say that was? I'll give you a chance to correct yourself!"

Frei 0/-------/-----==|=======\-------\1 Kimi
Once again, Frei's surprising physical fortitude works to his advantage when Kimi decides to apply a little tough love. The first kick really does sail right into his jaw, connecting with a satisfying *crack!* sound. However... the second and third strikes never happen. Yes, the ninja's strike just put some serious hurt on Frei's jaw, but it wasn't enough to stun him. Snapping out one hand, he clamps it around Kimi's ankle in a tight grip, looking her square in the face. He still appears cheerful, but there's something unnerving about how cheerful he looks.
"I'm not gonna deny martial arts can be used to injure and kill," he says simply, keeping his grip level and hopefully maintaining Kimi's attention. "But I stopped learning my family's style because killing without... a philosophy, without some sort of spiritual connection, didn't feel right to me. I found a way to fight that satisfied me. Mizuki's trying really hard to do the same. So even if she has a ways to go, she's still light years ahead of *you*."
As if to punctuate his argument, he suddenly lets go of Kimi's foot... but then drives the same hand forward, palm glowing bright with multicolored energy as he places his hand just above her sternum, then releases the pent-up chi in a massive forceblast... invisible to the eye except for the ripples in the air from the aftershock.
Once the first kick lands, Kimi is feeling more confident, surely the next will follow with no problem! Unfortunatly for her, she wasn't quite anticipating that Frei would be snatching her out of her technique afterward, leaving her stuck in place for the duration of the monks 'speech'. Oh she's definatly trying to pull herself free, well aware that there's something 'not right' about that smile, but it doesn't faze her.
".. Why you-" Her leg drawn free, she ends up dashing right into the palm and, of course, into the hellacious blast that follows. The burst of energy sends the schoolgirl blasting back, twirling around, and finds a nice home within a bike rack, smashing through all five that are settled within them and even bends the pipes on the sides.
One of the wheels pops free and rolls along the sidewalk as Kimi lay there for a moment, and then slowly reaches for the top of the stand to pull herself up to her feet.
After a couple of gasps for breath, her gloves hand is raised to her cheek, a small smile on her lips. "Ha ha ha.. Ha ha!!"
She stands up straighter, "Ha ha ha ha ha ha ha!!"
And then leans back slightly, "HA HA HA HA HA HA HA.... Ha.... Ha...."
If one looks close, at the ninjas icy-blue hair, they could see that the very tips have quite literally frozen over, the ninja's hands clenched into fists and she stomps down fiercly onto the sidewalk, cracking the concrete in the process. "Rrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrgggghhh!!!"
And she stays that way for a moment.

In proper monkly style, Frei draws his hand back afterwards and slowly exhales, pushing both palms outward again in a typical tai chi sort of move. That move does suck up quite a lot of personal energy and Frei actually pushed himself beyond his own limits in that scenario to make a point. He's paying for it now, taking deep cleansing breaths. And of course, just as a fight about to *start* tends to bring out certain activity in the Village, one ending does too. There's some scattered applause -- for Kimi too, of course -- and some jeering too. Then the show is over and the crowd starts to disperse.
Walking over, the monk ends at near Kimi's landing point and bends down to talk to her, bending deeply at the knees and giving her a little wave. "Well, you don't look too badly hurt, if you can scream and yell like that," the monk says simply, dusting off one of his pants legs. "So, tell me something... did I pass your 'test'?" The strange thing is how sincere he seems to be. Maybe making his point in combat let him work out some of that aggression toward the ninja.
As the crowd may be getting used to by this point, when Kimi is addressed, she still doesn't move- That is, if you don't count the grinding of her teeth and the subtle shake of her fists. Just give her a moment.
And when she comes to, her expression and her overall stature relaxes, the girl holding her hands behind her back. And while she does look a little tired, and certainly a bit beaten up, she -appears- to be in a pretty good mood again. "Whaaaat? Are your skills so dull that you couldn't see I was holding back against you? If I didn't give you such a head start I would have crushed you flat!" Kimi winks. "And you know it, Tsuki-Tsuki." <3
"But still, a win is a win, right? So I suppose from that standpoint you do pass, with that silly style of yours. Without philosphy? Without spiritual connection you say? You have no place to say such things, you're... I'd say a disgrace. But you're at least a strong disgrace, but I'd still reconsider going back home if I were you. And take Mizuzu with you, maybe she'll learn something, ha ha ha! You can rematch me anytime you like if you don't believe me!" Kimi certainly speaks in high spirits, but even her mask of joy can't hide the pain and embarassment going through her body right now.
Grinning somewhat, the monk resists the urge to pat the girl on the head. Suddenly he actually feels a little old, seeing the young arrogance that Kimi displays. Instead he gives her a thumbs up and stands up to his full, unimpressive height. Let's face it, he's not only young-looking, he's damned short. "Well, thanks for your generosity, then," he says faintly, a trace of amusement.
Stretching, Frei arches his arms over his head, then waves goodbye at Kimi. "It was fun. But... you don't know if I was holding back or not, do you?" Was he? Who knows. But the monk did certainly display that he's strong enough to handle... well, a holding-back Kimi. "Take care of yourself, lady." And with that he's on the move.
