Tran - Dr. Tran Touches a Woody Sword

Description: Dr. Tran pays a visit to Gedo High, looking for fresh blood. TOO FRESH! TOO FRESH!

It's a hot day, and humid besides. There's still students loitering around at Gedo High right now, either involved in whatever passes for club activities at the school, or just with nowhere else to go. After his Neo League match earlier in the day, Tenma Kiryuu can also be found on the campus with a small group of other boys, who are probably trying to make him feel better about having lost to some model/wrestler... But, given the look on the dark-haired boy's face and the way he's totally not participating in the bantering, it's probably not working at all.

Tenma's everpresent bokken sits across his crossed legs, and his elbows are on his knees, hands cradling his head. Yeah, his temper is pretty bad. Maybe, he reasons, he should just head home. Get something to eat. Find somebody to go beat up.

With a grin on his face and no accomodations made for the weather whatsover, Dr. Tran casually steps through the gates of Gedo High. As they say...some like it hot! And for someone like the doctor to so casually arrive here like he owns the place, well. It's only gonna get hotter!

But, truth be told, he's not really...doing much of anything yet. He kind of expected things to move a whole lot quicker than this. Gedo's a school of violent punk kids, right? Then how the hell has he managed to get all the way here without being assaulted? At least, by someone worthwhile. It's a mystery, leaving Tran no choice but to hope some punkass kid steps up, asking for a beating.

Yes, why indeed is Dr. Tran able to get this far unmolested? He certainly doesn't look like he belongs anywhere near Gedo High, or really any highschool at all. Not without somebody alerting the police or something. Lucky for Tran though, there's someone who's in a bad enough temper right now that he's entirely willing to hassle him. His blue eyes follow the arriving figure, before he takes up his wooden blade and stands up. "Hey, you! You don't belong here," Tenma shouts at Tran. "Get lost before we have to toss you out on your ass, gramps!"

Well, maybe not /completely/ unmolested. Unmolested by anyone who can even start to stop the doctor? Definately.

Tran turns to face Tenma as he's called out, and actually seems kind of...well, eager. He starts walking toward the high-schooler, at a leisurely pace, sizing the boy up before too much happens. He looks kind of rough and tumble, with that wood sword, but Tran really couldn't say for sure. Either way...an in-depth investigation's in order.

"Hey yourself, kid!" Stopping short, Tran points a finger at him. "I hope you know how to use that stick you've got there, because if you don't, I might just kick your ass on principle."

"Whatever, gramps," Tenma says, biting into the flesh of his left thumb, drawing blood. Using that bloodied digit, he paints a red line down the blade of his bokken, forming the chi-link between himself and his weapon; he sweeps the weapon through the air quickly, and its suddenly surrounded with misty crimson aura of mingled chi and blood. "We'll see whose ass is kicked in just a second."

Tenma doesn't make any other pleasantries, instead just charging directly at Tran, pulling his hands in to hold the tip of his bokken forward as he charges... Ideally, he doesn't even let Tran have the chance to get ready to deal with the attack, as he aims to spear the good doctor right in the chest with the chi-charged weapon!

Hm? Well, that's interesting. The blood thing, that is. "I'm still waiting to be impressed, kid. I'll admit I'm a little interested, on account of how I don't think I've ever seen someone draw first blood on themselves, before, but..." Tran pauses as he has to deal with the incoming strike. Instead of doing something, y'know, sensible, he steps forward into the blow, grabbing at the blade with one hand.

"I guess it's potent enough. I guess." Yanking forward on the blade, trying to jerk Tenma off-balance, Tran ignores the pain and brings his other hand up and tries to slug Tenma right in the jaw. It's good to start things off simply.

Yanking a guy's sword? That's not cool, Tran. Not cool at all. Nevertheless, it doesn't knock Tenma off balance /enough/, and instead he manages to get his other hand in the way of the supposed doctor's fist, catching the blow. "C'mon, what was that? I don't like beating people up when they suck /that/ bad. I'm no bully," the youth says, before then aiming to take Tran right off his feet and deposit the interloper headfirst on the ground, good and hard. "JUST GET OUT OF HERE!"

So he's been nabbed - Dr. Tran doesn't really mind. It's only when Tenma actually tries to DO something that he decides to yank away, breaking any holds the studnet might have or be trying to make, leaving the doctor quite unharmed. "Then maybe you should try to hurt me, instead of giving me your gay little love taps!"

The doctor backs away a step or two, then tilts his head at Tenma. "Come on, don't tell me you're all flash, no substance. Do you think I'm here for my health? Show me something worthwhile." He hangs back, waiting. Watching. Judging. If he wasn't a tiny Indian man, it might almost be intimidating.

COMBATSYS: Tran focuses on his next action.

Well... Were Tenma the sort of person to admit his own faults, he'd be the first to say that he's not very good at grappling and throwing. It's just not how he rolls, but sometimes you've got to do what you've got to do. So the fact that Tran is able to extricate himself isn't actually that surprising. With the strange little man watching him like that, Tenma huffs out an irritated breath. "Fine, have it your way," he says, and he takes a step forward.

Crouching low, the Gedo swordsman throws himself into a whirling leap up, his bokken extended to strike at Tran and, ideally, lift the other man up into the air with him before knocking him away, striking with wooden blade and bloody chi all at once. "Hope your insurance is paid up, gramps!!"

Thwack. Tenma's blade hits solidly - there's just one little detail that makes it less than a success. It doesn't hit Tran. Instead, it collides with a large, light grey disc that has momentarily appeared over his palm. In total defiance of physics, it stops the bokken dead cold, with Tran grinning like it ain't no thing. What's more, it actually redirects the chi emanating from the boy's sword, sending a fine, bloody mist spraying back in Tenma's face.

Tran steps back again afterward, shoving his hands in his pockets. "Well, I have to say, I'm glad to see that worked. I was a little worried it wouldn't, for a minute. Got anything else for me?"

What the crap is /that/. Tenma's caught rather offguard by the blocking and redirection, getting knocked back a little... Though he nevertheless lands back on his feet again. "Huh... So maybe you're not just some crazy old idiot with a death wish," he decides. Not /just/, anyway. What else does he have? Quite a few things still, don't worry about that.

Closing with Tran again, Tenma holds his sword back and out of the way, striking out with his free hand in a series of punches, directing the blows at specific points at the small man's torso, though it might not be immediately clear; his footwork is careful too, as he tries to herd Tran into a more advantageous position... And, if those punches land, well, Tran might be in for a surprise.

Each punch is, in fact, quite carefully placed... To disrupt the flow of energy through Tran's body, sapping his vitality. BUT WILL IT BE ENOUGH?!

The answer: kind of, maybe? More or less completely ignoring the punches, Tran steps forward with his fist raised, imminent doom approaching Tenma's face. This proves to be somewhat of a mistake. Right before Tran's about to crash down like the hammer of god, he stops, scrunches his face, and backs off a step, feeling a kind of...blockage.

Holding his hands out in front of him, Tran lets some steam off, clearing up his pathways and whatnot internally before doing anything else. "Not a bad try, but it'll take more than that to cut me off, kid."

That's not /exactly/ what Tenma was hoping for, but good enough right? It saved him from getting socked in the face, which is always an upside. "Whatever, gramps," the younger fighter says, his eyes a little bit curious at the sight of, well, actual /steam/ coming out of the Indian man. That's pretty unusual. Not that his own ability is much less so. Of course, he needs to deal with Tran promptly, before the other fighter can mount another offensive or do anything else weird, so he brings his bokken from behind his back in a diagonal upwards slash, aimed right across Tran's torso!

COMBATSYS: Tran blocks Tenma's Light Strike.

Once again, when the sword comes in, Tran makes no move to avoid it. If he can't deal with some wussy, messy stick, what good is he as a doctor and a gentleman? Instead, he reaches down with one hand and catches it, not trying to hold on, just keeping it away from his tender parts. The impact jars his wrist, but all told it's not too bad. The doctor will survive.

"I gotta say, I'm still not impressed. Those kids from across town put up a way better fight than this." Taking a step forward, the doctor raises a fist...and then stomps on Tenma's foot. THEN he swings forward with a solid punch toward the boy's chest.

See, here's Tenma's big problem; he loses his head too easily. When Tran taunts him about the kids 'across town', he immediately thinks of his ETERNAL RIVALS in the Pacific Resistance, and his anger throws him off as he reches for Tran, trying to grab the man for some kind of counterattack of his own... But instead he gets kicked in the chest, sending him staggering back. That /actually hurt/, and he looks mildly offended by the fact that it did. From a guy that tiny!

It probably doesn't help that Tran's actually talking about a couple of those kids in the Pacific Resistance, either. They put up a good fight - hell, one even managed to edge Tran out. Barely. Not that Tran's bitter, which, in a startling turn of events, is actually true.

Anyway, the doctor's not about to let the pressure up just yet. "Come on, kid! Impress me, please, tell me this isn't a giant goddamn waste of time!" Pushing forward, Tran crouches slightly and then snaps, putting the entirety of his small frame into the strike.

Oh, this is galling. This really hasn't been Tenma's day at all, and his mood was already a bit sour after losing on live television to the aforementioned Pacific Resistance. He's completely surprised by Tran's ability here, and though he tries to get his weapon up in the way of the smaller man's attack... He instead quite surely eats it, getting knocked back powerfully, his guard soundly crushed. Not a good day at all.

Spitting blood, the Gedo swordsman stands in a low crouch, holding his chi-radiating wooden sword in front of him, blue eyes focused on Tran. "Well, well, looks like the old man's got some strength in him too, huh?" Tenma says, mouthing off in order to buy himself time to get his head back in the game...

COMBATSYS: Tenma gains composure.

With a sigh, Tran gives Tenma his moment of breathing room. "Wish I could say the same, kid. Here I was, hoping you weren't just some gimmicky figher, and then..." He shrugs, shaking his head. "Who knows, though. Maybe you've got some kind of hidden power, or you've been working out a wedgie this whole time, or something. I don't know."

Still, Tran's face indicates he doesn't believe it. Moving forward, his motion is sort of lethargic as he swings slowly around, bringing his heel crashing upward toward Tenma's ear.

COMBATSYS: Tenma dodges Tran's Heavy Kick.

This time though, Tenma seems to be ready for ol' Tran. When the other fighter comes in for that big slow kick, well, the Gedo student ducks low, dropping onto one knee. "You're really gettin' on my last nerve, gramps," he says as he drops, not bothering to pay attention to the background noise, to the other Gedo students still present who are cheering, or jeering, or shouting suggestions.

Also, since Tran's leg is up, Tenma's going to take this opportunity to attack, swinging his chi-charged bokken up... Right between Tran's legs, using both hands to guide his weapon to strike somewhere nice and uncomfortable on the man who just wandered in here looking for a fight. "SO SHUT UP ALREADY!"

With his leg up in the air like that, Tran's almost defenseless. Kind of. It's really a long shot, but...a man's manparts have gotta be protected, after all. Not even trying to recover his leg held high, Tran presses one hand on the ground for balance, chi welling up...and then he gets nailed before he can do anything else. Right in the mean bean machine.

Grimacing, Tran staggers a step or two away, hurting, but still in control of himself. "Not a chance, doucheweed. I just decided I really, I mean really, don't like you." Could it be...go time!?

"Yeah, I'm heartbroken," Tenma replies dryly, straightening up after Tran is knocked away. It's his professional opinion that there's really no such thing as a 'dirty' attack in a fight... After all, it's a fight. Not some Sunday tea-sipping knitting circle cake social. "How about you just get lost then, huh?"

Except obviously, Tran's not going to do any of the sort. So, Tenma's got to figure out some other way of dealing with the strange little man, briefly raising his wooden blade up with both hands before he sweeps it diagonally down across the other fighter's body... And then, if all goes as planned, he sweeps it right back up again for a second attack, putting his full weight behind it. "Since you're just /trash/!"

Now, what kind of a guy would Tran be if he just declared his enmity for someone, and then took off with his tail between his legs? A lame guy, that's what. And as everybody who's anybody knows, Dr. Tran is awesome.

Shifting around, he lets the first strike slide off his forearm, before following up by twisting around and putting his shoulder in the path of the second blow. It rolls off fairly well, leaving Tran in a state that, while certainly not good at this point, can easily be called 'okay'.

"Big words, boy. Still waiting for you to back them up." Taking a step forward, trying to enter through Tenma's guard, Tran places one open hand on his fist and then drives his elbow toward the student's solar plexus.

When his two strikes are blocked, Tenma makes a sound that might be annoyance... Or it might be amusement. What's clear, at least, is that the young man is enjoying himself at least a little bit, possibly more than he was when he fought 'Domino' earlier; but then, Tran seems a lot less inclined to simply avoid anything and everything that comes his way. When the supposed doctor comes in for that palm strike, he just... Stands there and takes it, which is probably to his detriment, as rather than providing him a good opportunity it sends him staggering back a step, a hiss of pain escaping between his teeth.

Of course, he's not done yet.

"What, is that it?" Tenma wonders, a bit more breathless than he'd like. He reaches, though, in an attempt to grasp ol' Tran by the lapels of his... Lab coat? Seriously? ...And then just fall back, before kicking Tran off if it all works, in some kind of ghetto 'tomoe nage'-type throw. He's not very good at it, unfortunately... But he's /trying/.

Already surprisingly extended from attack, Tran...really doesn't manage to do much of anything in regards to Tenma's tumbling tactic. "Wh...hup!" The doctor comes flying, crashing into the dirt hard. He slowly rises to his feet, brushing dirt and grime off of himself.

"Huh. You might not be as worthless as I thought." Tran's doing an awful lot of brushing, there. When steam comes rising from his hands, it's a pretty good sign that something's up - and then he grabs his shoulder with one hand and starts rubbing it, working it around, while moving his other hand up to his wrist and doing the same. "You've still got a long way to go, though."

That's... That's new. And definitely kind of weird. Tenma gets to his feet and whirls around, in time to see the doctor apparently giving himself some kind of a sauna treatment with his wacky steam-power, and... Geez, now what's he supposed to do? Shaking his head a little, Tenma charges right at the supposed man of medicine, sweeping his bokken behind himself again, and repeating his earlier technique; careful footwork to force Tran back, and repeated strikes with his left fist to wreak havoc on the other man's chi flow. It might not do anything to... Whatever Tran's doing now, but...

It seems that Tran's learned his lesson - instead of charging headfirst into Tenma's pinpoint pain, Tran backpedals, giving himself those last few finishing touches as he does so. Shaking his fingers out afterward, Tran seems like he's in pretty good shape, all told.

"Alright, kid. Pop quiz." Taking a firm stance, Tran holds his hand up high, letting steam broil around it. It molds to the contours, pressing inward, moving faster and faster within its confined space until it looks like a solid object. Tran snaps his hand downward into a fist, and the steam follows suit, forming a white ball of concealed motion.

Charging forward, Tran keeps it simple - he smashes his fist, and that steam, toward Tenma's chest, the chi releasing and exploding with horrible force. It's really just a simple uppercut, but simplicity does not exclude the presence of danger, and holy hell is there a lot of that.

As Tran does some more steam tricks, Tenma is in fact... Well, somewhat intrigued. That's pretty neat. And, he can tell, probably rather dangerous. Which of course is why he doesn't even /try/ to avoid Tran's attack. Instead, Tenma actually steps /into/ the uppercut, feeling the initial, powerful impact, but... He swings his bokken, bloody aura of chi and all, across in a vicious strike to stop the strange little man dead, before unloading a brief flurry of further strikes with his free hand and legs, ending the whole thing with - what else? - a good old-fashioned headbutt, driving his forehead full-force into Tran's face. "You're DONE!!" Of course, Tran probably isn't. It just felt good to shout that.

Of course not. Tran's still plenty of life left in him even after essentially getting the shit beat out of him. The final headbutt even opens a cut on his forehead and knocks him on his ass in the dirt. For a moment, Tran doesn't get up. For a moment, at least.

Pushing himself up with one hand, the doctor wipes some of the blood away, looking at it and then at Tenma. Something strange happens right about then: Tran grins. Flicking his hand to the side, to get rid of the blood on his fingers, Tran notes, cheerfully, "I hope you don't have AIDS."

And then, with a lurching lunge forward, Tran tries to clock Tenma square in the forehead. Nothing fancy - he's just tired after all the exertion, is all.

This time though, things don't seem to want to go Tenma's way; he stands his ground against the punch, and it hits home, staggering him a little. That... Didn't quite go the way he planned it. "Gh... Dammit," the youth mutters; today has really, really not been his day. Not even slightly. But he doesn't fall, oh no. Instead, though his reactions have dulled somewhat from exertion and a myriad of injuries, he swings his bokken back over his shoulder... And hey, you know what? That's fine. Really. Tran doesn't care if Tenma's going for an all-out, desperate attack, because he knows exactly how to handle shit like that. With a wave of his hand, the doctor's chi barrier springs into being, directly in the path of the bloody bokken. There's a clash for a moment, as the steam struggles to hold against the force, but after a moment the doctor twists his wrist and shifts all that energy away from himself.

Tran pauses, then, silently considering his defeated opponent. "Hmm..." Taking a step over while Tenma can't defend himself, Tran rears back and throws a quick kick toward the boy's jumbly bits. Vengeance will be his.

And in this moment, Tran proves that he's pretty much a huge jerkoff, as Tenma gets kicked in the good'n'plenties. Unfortunately, after all that effort, there's not much he can do to avoid that, the chi around his bokken having faded entirely. This causes more jeering at Tran from the remaining assembled Gedites, of course. Even the ones who can't /stand/ Tenma Kiryuu would rather stick up for their own. But anybody who can beat Tenma is probably more than a match for most of them, right?

And then!! ENTER THE SUIGETSU. Hakuya hadn't actually been here for a good deal of the fight. Okay, well, scratch 'good deal' - it was more like all. And he'd really only heard of it because some kid had stormed into the room the Suigetsu heir was in, exclaiming about a fight outside, between Tenma and some shrimpy dude in a lab coat. It was actually the detention room, and the only reason the kid was there was because he had been caught sleeping in class. So, after a slight struggle with the teacher, the students freed themselves from the horrible clutches of detention hall, and went out to see. All Hakuya got to see, though, was... Tenma being kicked in the junk, while he was down. Ouch.
Stepping forward out of the crowd, the young man pulls his hoodie up over his head, obscuring his eyes with shadows as he does this, moving over by Tenma. Though his eyes can't really be seen in the depths of The Hood, as well as through the black mess of Hakuya's hair, they can probably be felt on Tran. "You shouldn't pick on the defenseless like that. He was down," he says in a steady, even voice.

Say what you will, that junkkick was /completely/ justified. Crouching down next to Tenma, he looks him over again, and then reaches down and picks up the bokken. It's a little gross, what with all the blood on it, but Tran's a doctor. He's not squeamish.

And then, hey, it looks like it's time for round two already! Pushing himself up, Tran holds the wooden sword like a cane, leaning on it for a moment as he catches his breath. "He deserved it for being a jerk. Why, you feel like doing something about it, spook? As long as you're not as lame as this joker, I'm game for it." And then the Tran sits, and waits, watching, waiting for a response.

Glancing down to Tenma, Hakuya seems a moment distracted. Yeah, Tenma -could- be a jerk at times... but usually only to people who deserved it. Or were jerks back to him, like the Pacific Resistance team. Clearly this means that Tran is some manner of jerk or another, and the kicking Tenma in the sack seems plenty good evidence for this! Looking back up to Tran, the Suigetsu heir seems to have made his decision! Though, his distraction seems to have let Tran grab Tenma's sword? Oh dear. "I suppose I do," he replies. And with that... he suddenly lashes out. Stepping forward, he throws a palm strike to Tran's stomach... easily read as a feint, however, as he pulls it back. Then he snaps another palm strike out for Tran's face, another, somewhat less readable feint, all in an effort to distract him from the leg he's bringing in to try and sweep the good doctor's legs out from under him, throwing him to the ground, all sneaky like!

"Well, not a bad start, kid. It'll take more than that, though!" In a fashion that can really only be considered crazy, Tran steps forward and swings the bokken like a baseball bat, with Hakuya's noggin making for an exceptionally shadowy baseball. Will it be a homerun, or a no-hitter?

A swing and a...! Well, a hit, but not quite the hit Tran was hoping for, probably. After the attack is made and recovered from, Hakuya's ready for whatever might come, stepping away from the lab coated guy, and falling into his usual fighting stance. When the swipe is made, both arms go up, the first arm letting the wooden blade catch on his forearm, and the second reinforcing the arm to make sure that the hit isn't stronger than he thinks it is, getting a face full of his own arm, as well as the wooden sword. Shoving the blade away again, he steps forward, then twists in place, bringing his leg around and up, driving it back down again for Tran's chest in a spinning axe kick. No retort from this young man, however... he's apparently the silent type. Tenma's the screamer.

We'll just go ahead and call that a single, then. The home team crowd may be jeering at him, but Tran doesn't even really care about them, anyway. Instead, he goes right for the pitcher, in a move that will certainly earn him a fine and a suspension from the league.

Charging forward, Tran gets ready to shoulder tackle Hakuya - only to be brought short by the surprising force of the axe kick, getting slammed harshly into the ground. Tran coughs, wincing, and slowly begins to push himself back up. He's on his last legs, now, after a lot of fighting, and he's only human.

Shoulder meets foot in a horrible clash of the titans! Or, well, the stronger attack seems to come out on top, at least, sending Tran scrambling back from the force. Which is probably good, because Hakuya's footing is a little thrown off after that attempt at a shoulder rush, the younger boy scooting backwards a bit, feet dancing a little in order to get his balance back. A pause is made, then, as he sees Tran's condition... and in a gesture that Tenma likely wouldn't have done, the young man stops entirely, and moves to lower his hoodie, blinking his eyes a moment, then giving a toss of his head to get hoodie-hair out of his eyes. It's then the gesture itself comes: he smiles a bit, and then says, "If you apologize to Tenma and leave, we can call this a draw. I don't know why you were here in the first place, but I'm sure it would be fun to fight you on less serious terms, if you came back as a friend some time."

COMBATSYS: Hakuya takes no action.

Man. Is this kid for real? Tran chuckles, even as he finishes getting back up to his feet. Still loosely holding onto Tenma's sword, he looks at Hakuya for a minute, trying to see if there's any trace of humor there. He doesn't seem to find any.

"Well, kid, tell you what. I'm out of here. I give up, whatever, you win, but I'm not saying sorry to that jerk." Twirling the stick in his hands, Tran turns and starts to walk away, tossing it to the side a moment later back at Tenma. Maybe a little harder than strictly neccesary. He raises a hand over his head, waving without even looking back.

"Seeya around, I'm sure."

COMBATSYS: Tran takes no action.

At the point where Hakuya, ever the more diplomatic member of the Guardian Kings, offers Tran the opportunity to leave in peace, Tenma's expression could best be described as incredulous. However, it's a gesture of his faith in his friend that the taller boy doesn't say anything about it, even though he would dearly like to have watched Hakuya finish off the creepy little troll. Still, you can't get everything you want, right?

As his sword is tossed back rather roughly, Tenma has at least recovered enough by now to catch it out of the air instead of just getting smacked with it, and rather than showing any gratitude, the look he gives Tran is pretty much a snarl. "Stupid idiot," he mutters, getting to his feet a bit gingerly. "I'm probably going to have to get this thing re-blessed, now that it's hard his grubby hands on it."

Seems he is for real! Which earns him... well, not having to go through beating up (or getting beaten up, as the case may be) someone else, all to protect his friend. The offer was made because Hakuya was trying to determine just what Tran's intentions were. If he had kept attacking, then he wasn't very deserving of any mercy - he obviously was, as Tenma would put it, a huge jerkoff. But since he had walked off, there was little reason to continue fighting, right? Right. Nodding his head after Tran, he looks now back to the recovered Tenma, not minding at all as the other boy mutters curses back at the good doctor. Sure, they were insults. No, they probably weren't getting along. But they weren't hurting each other... well, physically anyway. Smiling a bit to Tenma, he offers: "Ramen? I'll pay, this time." He actually has money!

Of course, his little show of diplomacy also earns him odd looks from the rest of the Gedo crowd come to watch. Not outright jeers or insults - they know Hakuya can kick an ass or two, if prompted - but just... incredulous looks. They eventually then just depart, their hopes and dreams of seeing an outsider getting smashed for wounding the Gedite pride getting tossed to the winds... but not entirely, really. You can't really complain with this kind of ending, one susposes.

COMBATSYS: Hakuya has left the fight here.
