Neo League 351 - #374: Ingrid vs Yurika

Description: League action takes place in Birmingham England's Symphony Hall where two prime examples of grace and manner clash! That sentance seems redundant somehow.. But who will be the last princess standing? (Winner: Ingrid)

Birmingham, England.

The Symphony Hall has a special treat, tonight. Normally the only kind of performance being held here is the orchestral type, but today a Neo League fight has been scheduled. It might be an odd place at first glance, but when the two participants are made clear perhaps it's less so, Yurika Kirishima and Ingrid Holmann. Not only is Yurika nothing short of a musical prodigy when it comes to playing the Violin, to the extent of actually fighting with it, but both of them can easily be considered to be two very refined young ladies. There's little chance that the hall will get blown to pieces with these two fighting.

For her part, Ingrid is just arriving. She'd come and scouted a little earlier to get a look at the elegant surroundings but decided to explore some of the finer parts of London while she waited for the scheduled time to arrive. Now that she's here she smiles, noticing that a bit of an audience is forming. Surely nothing like what would appear in Howard Arena for a Saturday Night Fight main event, but enough. She mingles through them slowly, passing by the lower seats and saying hello to some of the people in the crowd as she makes her way towards the stage, where the fight will begin.

The situation isn't just a treat for the spectators, but for Yurika as well. She hasn't fought out of the country very often, and she was absolutly astonished when she saw the location. Were she any more emotional, she'd probably be in tears, because it's just so rare that she actually looks forward to fighting an opponent.. At least when she has to do so in a positive light. It's not exactly a dream match, per se, but Yurika is quite excited, even if it doesn't show in her generally passive expression.
And unlike Ingrid, Yurika had done very little site seeing, most of her time was spent doing her hair and taking advantage of the small make-up crew that's part of the otherwise big production crew. Ah if only if she were at a spa, this would be pure heaven.
So, Ingrid is just arriving, and Yurika is just finished getting prettied up. She knows a little about her opponent, but she knows even less about the girls fighting style other than through what she has seen in the match against Naerose. Very pretty. Very sparkly. Either way though, the white-haired girl is greeted with a small smile, she holding her violin case in hand, "Good day to you, Ingrid. It's been quite some time." She pays little mind of the audience steadily flowing in. Not once had she ever thought of a league match as a 'performance', after all.

The blonde Norwegian keeps moving forward, and a few of the people she was just chatting with look somewhat surprised, not having known that she was one of the contenders in today's match. She smiles warmly to Yurika upon being greeted. "Good day to you as well, Yurika." She makes a quick look around the hall in a way suggesting Yurika do the same. "It's pleasing to be fighting in such a lovely venue, don't you agree?" Unlike the normal attendees of such fights, those coming in to watch are actually wearing tuxedos, nice suites, and elegant dresses.

Though her face can conceal the excitement, Ingrid can still sense it within Yurika, though she doesn't say anything about it. It is nice to know the violinist feels the same way as she does. "It has been a while, and much the pity. We should get together and do something fun sometime. Perhaps coffee at my apartment?"

Yurika is pretty easily persuaded, and mimics the Norwegians visual movements, her free gloved hand raised to her cheek, "Goodness gracious yes," she replies delightedly. Somehow she had let slip just how well Ingrid carried herself. Personally she blames this on the near life-altering music of Gabriel, which to this day sends the ocassional shiver up her spine, "I never once thought I would have the honor in battling in a place like this. Mmmn, and I agree,"
Holding her case horizontally, she's about to open the case when one of the ushers rushes onto the stage and goes ahead and opens the thing for her. Once again pleasently suprised, she draws out her violin 'Charlotte' and it's accompanying bow, setting the instrument on her shoulder to take a moment to tune, "Coffee.. Would be splendid," the musician adds in, "I apologize for not making a greater effort to contact you, it has been rather taxing for me lately.." Espionage, deceit, mind-games. The usual girl stuff, "I hope I can make it up at least a little through this match. Let's make this one a classic, shall we?"

If Ingrid was truly set upon winning this match at all costs and was a very cruel woman she would have recorded Gabriel's playing and had it piped through some speakers at a critical moment. Luckily, she's more interested in enjoying the match and isn't quite mean enough to try something like that. Besides, it might cost her Yurika's friendship, and that would be quite a loss. "I imagine that it might be possible to arrange more fights in places like this, with people who would be well suited to it." Meaning people who are both elegant, and won't go knocking holes in the expensive floors.

When the door is opened she waits for Yurika to enter and then follows behind her, moving a slight ways away from her. "I'm glad to hear it, I do love to entertain guests." She then shakes her head slightly, "There's no need to apologizes, I understand how things can go, and I could have done more to remain in contact with you as well." She reaches down to the hem of her skirt and gives a graceful curtsy. "I most certainly agree." With those words spoken her stance loosens, arms falling easily to her sides as she begins to sway slightly, ready to begin.

When the fighters reach the center of the stage, Yurika is mildly suprised when the audience starts things off with a polite applause. Her dark eyes widen just a little, distractedly shifting attention between Ingrid and the onlookers, her cheeks turning a light tinge of pink.
But then she gives a quick shake-off, returning Ingrid's curtsy with one of her own, skirt falling easily back in place afterward, "Very well, then.. I suppose I shall start us off. Best of luck, Ingrid." Everyone take note. That is the first time she's ever said that. Ever.

However she isn't entirely a good sport about it, the matches start is purely on instinct, the young student stood there for a moment, then at the snap of a finger takes quick strides toward Ingrid, starting the match off with a very simple kick, turning to her side so she can thrust her foot sharply at the others stomach.

The polite applause by the audience helps to widen Ingrid's smile slightly, clearly enjoying the atmosphere of the symphony hall. This will be unlike just about any other fight around, she imagines, a polite match between to sophisticated young women, not a grudge match between two men constantly screaming about how they'll destroy one another and avenge someone or another.

"And to you as well, Yurika." How could she not acknowledge such a remark? She's carefully watching Yurika as she moves forward to try and kick her, and rather than moving with a flourish she keeps things simple, reaching over with her left foot and deftly moving over to the side, turning to face Yurika in the same movement and managing to make it look incredibly fluid, almost like a rehearsed dance step between the two of them.
What may or may not ruin the illusion of careful choreography is that she herself doesn't move to reciprocate, instead staying where she is and keeping her eyes on the other blonde. It's simply the way Ingrid fights; she isn't the sort to rush in unaware.

And so the piece starts.. Yurika doesn't seem too suprised that Ingrid manages to avoid the first attack, from what she had seen before, Ingrid looked pretty nimble, in and outside of battle. But even with the missed kick she keeps a decent posture, turning to face Ingrid again with her bow held out as if it were a single-handed sword.

But light brows furrow slightly, the expected counter-attack didn't come. This is the first time she's actually faced a mildly-paced start, but then again, perhaps it could benefit her. Yurika breathes slowly, not certain what to expect either, but her usual tricks may not be as reliable in this match-up. She'll have to match Ingrid's pace for a bit.

Ingrid's stance remains the same as it has been, cool calm and collected, swaying gently with her arms at her side. Yurika doesn't seem to be making a move towards her, and that suits her just fine. She reaches up and gently pushes some of her hair out of her face, and sends a bit of a smile towards Yurika. It's in no way threatening, or telling that she's about to attack, but a simple warm gesture of friendship.

That, however, doesn't mean that she isn't about to attack. She isn't entirely sure what's going on in Yurika's mind, but she can at least tell that she's being watched just as much as she's watching. That calls for suppression fire, so to speak. Her right arm pulls back and then quickly swings forward, a trail of golden sparkles following after her hand as it moves, Ingrid lifting one of her legs off the ground to follow through as a ball of shining energy forms from her hand and raises up into the air and then begins to fall back down at an equal arc, right for Yurika.

Yurika is finally again graced by the presence of Ingrids beautiful looking energy, and for a brief moment, the mysterious little smile on her lips becomes more genuine. It really is nice to see; however she's in no position to remain that way for long. She sets her bow atop Charlottes strings as the energy comes toward her.
And plays a serene number, albeit quick to build up the energy she needs, and pushes off of one foot she can twirl, skirt belling out a bit like a top. Naturally her music comes to life, taking a phyisical form of light blues and greens, strings of quarter notes, half notes and rests twirl about her like a gym ribbon that seems to be just enough to be a reliable wall against her oponents energy. They energies don't clash long, in fact it's very brief, since she stops her play once Ingrids Sun Shot had completely dissipated.

Ah, Yurika's music. Certainly at place in a symphony hall like this one, and even more so because of the skill of it's player, which would certainly be welcome here under it's normal circumstance. Ingrid has only witnessed her talents once before when she was fighting Momoko in the World Warrior 'audition' Naerose held, so it's nice to see it again; especially when it's being used in a defensive manner.

She's not surprised when the musical notes manage to nullify her energy, but it's good to know that it's capable of doing so, which means that Yurika is at least as powerful as she is with using energy techniques. "Beautiful, Yurika." A slight compliment is given, and then Ingrid moves, using her speed to dash in quickly towards Yurika, her left arm extending forward and then pulling back, her body twisting slightly as her right hand whips quickly around to try and strike the violinist on the side of the cheek with a powerful slap.

"Thank you very much," Yurika replies, though it's a somewhat rushed response. Yurika seems to be concentrating a little more than usual, though what she's exactly concentrating on, even the musician herself isn't even sure of. The atmosphere was messing with the girls head, and to be honest, for the first time she had a very very faint feeling that she wanted to have 'fun' with this match.
But as is, she isn't capable of it, she doesn't even know where to start really, so the only thing she could really do is hope that Ingrid wouldn't be terribly bothered by the fact that the musician decided to just make her primary objective, 'Beat her senseless'. Her eyes seem to dull then, the friendliness in her expression fading..

Ingrids slap becomes a one-hand fanning, there's little effort involved in her evasion, Yurika arches her back slightly, as the hand whisps in front of her face, and the counter-attack is quick, she snaps her arm forward with the intent of cracking Ingrid right at the side of her neck with her wooden weapon.

Though it doesn't show on her face, it does make Ingrid a tiny bit sad to feel Yurika's emotions shift, though when she gives it a short moment of thought it's almost to be expected. It is a real fight after all, the Neo League would record the results of the match on their permanent dossiers. Making your main objective to win in such a situation is perfectly fine, she finally decides.

Her attack misses, and Yurika's quick strike comes out. Ingrid quickly tries to pull her left hand up to check the attack and cause it to land on her wrist, but isn't quick enough, the weapon landing on her neck and causing a small jerk from the pain it causes, Ingrid stumbling backwards slightly.

Yurika has gotten the first blow in, and that's official, but Ingrid prepares to make her own counterattack. It's unlikely Yurika won't be able to recover from her attack before Ingrid makes her own, but that doesn't mean the move isn't effective in the first place. She takes that small step back forward again and raises her hands above her head, suddenly pushing them down and forward in equal amounts and releasing a large stream of glittering golden energy from them, an attempt to completely immerse Yurika in it.

And so the real match seems to be beginning at last. Not to the relief of Yurika, though, with Ingrid stepping things up after taking that blow, things can only get more intense from this point on. But the good news for herself is, she's ready for Ingrids mystical attack, and while Yurika *is* emerseed within that energy, her bow raised as if blocking a high punch, she seems to be resisting it suprisingly well.. Not well enough to just stand there though, Yurika forces herself to back off and get out of that little trap.
But she's not that way for long, the very moment the energy shows signs of disappearing, Yurika again extends her arm, adding some momentum by taking a strong step forward and slices low, intending to catch Ingrid by the leg and knock her off of her feet with a sharp, "Yaah!"

While Ingrid's attack wasn't a total success, it wasn't a complete failure either, which is just as well. Yurika seems to be able to resist her energy fairly well, and then she comes forward and strikes out with another attack. Seeing how low the bow is moving, Ingrid bends down and then tries to simply hop over it as if they were playing jump rope together. She doesn't move quickly enough, however, and the bow catches her leg before she gets off the ground, knocking her off balance and sending her feet sliding out from under her.

She lands on her back, a slight gasp escaping from her lips from the impact. She knows she needs to recover quickly, and so she suddenly tucks herself up and rolls forward, attempting to move right past Yurika before standing up and reaching out for her, trying to grab her at the elbow she holds Charlotte with and stick her foot behind her legs before reaching with her other hand to press onto her chest, right below her neck, and shove, trying to trip her and knock her down to the ground just as she just was.

Interesting, it seems Ingrid is still trying to play the quickness game. Yurika keeps that in mind, figuring out the strategy, at least for the time being, that Ingrid appears to be using. She has no idea if it's her skill of her fighting style or if it's luck that's letting her land those attacks, but..
First thing's first. Seeing her opponents hands reach outward, Ingrid ends up grasping nothing but air because Yurika is well on her way of *getting* away, standing on the tip-toe of one foot and twirls around her elegant opponent. It's quick enough to effectivly place Yurika right behind Ingrid, but no strike follows, instead she dances back lightly, twirling twice more for a little distance and raises her bow again to the strings of Charlotte. And then she is perfectly still, the hollow gaze locked, and her breathing picking up slightly. It wouldn't hurt to have a little insurance, after all. At least, she hopes it won't hurt.

If the fight were being cut up into rounds, there's no doubt that Yurika's managed to win the first one. So far she's managed to smack Ingrid twice with very little reprisal, the Norwegian unable to cleanly land even a single blow. Ingrid has to wonder about just how mobile Yurika is now that she's literally moving circles around her before moving out of immediate striking distance. She's no slouch herself when it comes to speed, and that motion nearly made a fool of her.

But, it's time to get things back into order. She doesn't want Yurika to gain a massive upper hand over her, so she holds back as well, carefully keeping an eye on her as she prepares for whatever she's going to do next, making definite note of the fact the bow is now held against the strings of the violin.

If one were to ask, it likely wasn't the intent. While Yurika may not necessarily look strong, she does look light on her feet even with the somewhat odd stance her violin forces her to take. Maybe it would be considered more of a message.
It's probably a very important one, honest. Ingrid's pause is taken to note, and then Yurika takes action again, forced to close the distance once more in a quickened pace, and lashes out her bow.. No music follows, at least not a long peace, light blue musical bars trail her weapon as she first tries to slash her bow across Ingrids gut, hitting with the energy, then jerks the weapon in the opposite direction right at Ingrid's knee, arm arcing as if she were swinging a golf club with one hand.

Saishu has disconnected.

Without risk, there is no reward, and Ingrid knows she needs to take a risk here or she may begin to lose control of the fight. That message was received well; Yurika is fast, perhaps faster than Ingrid, and attacks sent her way in a normal manner were likely to be dodged or intercepted with a ready limb. So, Ingrid moves into the realm of the slightly less conventional.

It is a risk that she takes, Yurika's movements incredibly quick. Ingrid takes a tiny step forward, and then as Yurika's bow lashes out in the first blow she leans forward, and points. The leaning gives her just enough range, and a disk of swirling energy forms in front of her finger, the bow striking it rather than the energy hitting Ingrid, and Yurika is frozen in place. It's only for the tiniest fraction of a second, though, as Ingrid stands back up strait and flings the arm she pointed with up into the air, that disk suddenly disappearing as the energy wraps itself around Yurika and drags her up quickly and then allowing her to be dropped unceremoniously to the ground. For her part, Ingrid takes a quick step backwards to gain distance, and gauges Yurika's reaction.

Yurika's expression shifts the moment her bow hits the disk, a very questionable one that's answered in the most unpleasent of manner. She doesn't realized what's going on in time, her bow jerked away instinctivly but isn't spared the sudden blast of energy that envelops her once again. The prissy student launched upward and dropped to the floor on her shoulders with a heavy thud, Yurika seems to be out for a moment.
It's very brief though, she can move, but she looks to be in quite a bit of pain, even as she sits up and gets to her feet. But she's in a crouched position, and she stays that way, bow at the ready and shakily proceeds to play another serene tune, the notes coming to life once more as they dance about her body. Yurika is fully aware that she can take an energy shot, and this is the third person that's made their energy completely unbearable. Well, this time she was going to figure out a way around this.

COMBATSYS: Yurika gathers her will.

Ingrid watches Yurika carefully, noticing how she gets up and then begins to play a song for herself. The notes swirl around her, but don't come after like she's seen them do to Momoko. She isn't entirely sure what Yurika's up to, but whatever it is she seems to be in a fairly solid position. Giving it up probably wouldn't work out very well for her.

Ingrid can use that to her advantage. Rather than swinging her arm out and sending more energy after her, she responds by attacking with herself. She takes a few fast steps forward and then hops towards Yurika. "Hah!" both elbows are held out to her sides and she spins around, golden energy trailing behind her as a stream of sparkles, Ingrid trying to smash her elbows into Yurika as she spins. She then lands and immediately throws herself into a flash kick, crying out "Yosha!" as her body bends back and her legs kick out for Yurika's chin, a large stream of energy flowing out behind her heels.

Yurika's playing continues for as long as Yurika can manage, but the moment Ingrid starts to close in on her, is when her music slows down and eventually comes to a stop. The girl is in a defensive position, so she thinks she should have no trouble defending against Ingrids attack.
But skill nor luck is with her, the other girls impressive combination lands solidly, forcing Yurika to her feet, and then the final kick is enough to send her back onto the stage floor, sliding along her back briefly. Again, it takes a moment for her to move, Yurika's hair frazzled and her pale face seeming slightly more pale- But all the while she hasn't released her grip on either of her weapons. She's looking pretty miserable at this point, pushing herself up on her side and her head lowers, trying to catch her breath and gather her wits. This just wasn't going very well.

COMBATSYS: Yurika gains composure.

%Ingrid's flip continues after she connects, feet coming easily below her again as she lands back onto the ground, her attack seeming to have worked exactly as intended. The fact that Yurika needs some time to get herself back together after the attack shows Ingrid exactly how effective it was, and causing her to think for a moment.

At this moment, she's somewhat torn. On one hand, attacking immediately might be a good choice, but on the other Yurika is down on the ground. What would etiquette say about this situation, Ingrid wonders? Should she give her opponent a moment to collect herself and get back to her feet, or should she strike while the iron is hot?

In the end, she decides that Yurika can take care of herself; she's proven herself powerful, so there's no reason to 'coddle' her. She moves forward quickly, trying to get close to Yurika, and then gets down low, herself. She remembers some of the maneuvers Megumi used on her in the past, and attempts to put Yurika into a makeshift armlock; essentially twisting her bow arm around behind her back and holding it there. It won't effectively pin her, but if she can't use her violin, how can she pull off her more impressive techniques?

Ingrid           1/-------/=======|======-\-------\0           Yurika

Yurika more or less would want it that way, really. She just simply had no idea that Ingrid was this powerful. At this point any attempt at strategy was thrown out the window, Yurika was so far behind now that pretty much anything would do at this point.
And so Ingrid comes toward the musician again, and there might be something suspicious in the way that she doesn't even try to move her arm out of the way. But it isn't until in mid-shift that Yurika's arm jerks, but it isn't enough to break out of the hold as she had originally intended. The girl cringes in pain, the hold is more annoying than anything else, but she's just so worn out that it feels worse than it actually does, and again she slouches forward a bit, at Ingrids mercy for the time being.

The jerk of the arm causes Ingrid to wonder what might happen if Yurika were much stronger than her, and might have been able to completely break her hold. She would likely have been at her mercy, and because of this the hold is broken voluntarily. Unlike Megumi, she's not a ground fighter, and any clumsy mistakes while attempting to perform holds could end in her getting walloped.
But, Yurika is still able to fight, so it seems, she likely would have said something if that wasn't the case, and so going off the same feelings as she had before, Ingrid presses onward. Her attack is probably familiar; it's the same flash kick that was on the end of one of her previous attacks, except it comes out much more quickly, and she doesn't arc as high into the air. Still there is the stream of energy behind her feet, and from her position it looks like she'll have to try to kick Yurika in the back of the head. "Yosha!"

Ground fighter or no, it's proving so far to be useful, at least in this particular match-up. Ingrid's next attack, it is definatly familiar to Yurika, but pretty much like the last time, there's not much she can do about it. There's an attempt to display some of her athleticism again, yes, but that's about it, the musician leans but just doesn't lean quite enough, so the foot meets its mark forcing her her stagger away from Ingrid again, and then just collapses to the floor.
And yet still she keeps a firm grip on her weapons, Charlotte managing to avoid getting damaged as she pushes herself up a few inches off the ground, teeth grit tightly.. And they give, forcing her to drop once more, "... Well played," she murmurs, her head lowered, "I concede."

The quick attack finds it's mark, and Yurika goes to the ground. Ingrid waits to find her reaction, and then nods quietly when she concedes the match, apparently having taken more than she could and still be able to keep on fighting. The Norwegian reaches her hand up and brushes her hair back into order, and then reaches down with her hand, attempting to help Yurika up. "Thank you. You did good as well. This could have gone either way, except for a few lucky shots I got in." She sounds sincere, and is probably at least somewhat correct. Had her countering attempt failed, it would have been all downhill from there for her, and she might not have been able to recover. She really doesn't want Yurika feeling bitter, or like she performed poorly. After all, they're going to have coffee sometime.

Yurika does need a moment to recover, though it's actually just a very short one, just enough so that when she feels the strength to get back up again, she does so. The musician notices the hand, but it isn't taken; she instead stands up on her own accord, brushing her gloved hand lightly over her hair. It's nothing personal, she's simply much too proud to embarass herself any further, "Thank you as well, Ingrid, it was a very intense match.. Perhaps I didn't play my cards right, but either way a win is a win. Congratulations."
The prissy girl then bows deeply to Ingrid, giving the other a small smile, "I hate to depart so quickly but.. I am in dire need of a bubble bath at this point."

Ingrid doesn't seem offended that Yurika wants to get up under her own power, simply straightening back up and pulling her hand back. "Yes, I would certainly say it was. I must admit I was starting to fret at the beginning." A warm smile acknowledges the congratulations given to her, "Thank you, Yurika, I appreciate it."

Yurika bows, and Ingrid returns it in the same way she had done so earlier, by curtsying. "Oh, now that does sound like a very nice idea. I'm afraid I'm going to have to steal it from, but then I suppose there must be more than one bathtub in this city." A smile goes along with her little joke, and Ingrid makes to leave the main stage and walk back through the crowd, intending to talk with a few of the audience on the way out.
