Neo League 201 - #223: Hotaru vs Tran

Description: In the middle of Southtown, a disgruntled Dr. Tran takes his frustrations out on poor Hotaru-chan. >:( (but we luvs ya Dr.) (Winner: Dr. Tran)

Smack dab in the middle of Southtown Village, there is a makeshift ring set up. It's nothing special - Just four poles with some tape set up in between them. It almost looks like a crime scene, except of course we know the truth. It's there for a Neo League Fight, one half of which consists of the stunning Dr. Tran!

Standing in one corner, hands on his hips, legs spread, he's waiting for a dramatic breeze so that he can look extra-daring for the camera. Oh, and for the fight to start, I guess. He's not looking forward to that part nearly as much.

Were Hotaru aware of Tran's ambivalence, she'd surely ask about it. But she doesn't know, and she'd just gotten the notice of the League Fight a few hours ago--in fact, while she was in class. She just had enough time to change and make her way to the Village, to see the 'ring' laid out. Hmm, she thinks to herself, it's a little makeshift. Maybe it's because of the Second Victory tournament that's the big thing right now.
She spots Tran, who must be her opponent, and waves, cheerfully. Again... she can't know about how he feels about the under-18 set of females... of which Hotaru clearly is part.
"Hello!" she calls, as she waits for the announcer to finish his um... announcing.

Well, it's not as though it's Hotaru's fault that Tran hates anything without a Y-chromosome. Surely, if she had been the first that he met, it would have set a trend that didn't allow the cycle of seething hatred to exist. Right? RIGHT?

The world may never know, honestly, because Dr. Tran isn't even thinking about that. He's more thinking of how much this is going to suck/hurt/be miserable, but he has to go ahead with it anyway. Thus, he doesn't return Hotaru's greeting. At least, not with another greeting.

Tran raises an arm, pointing directly at Hotaru. "Don't play all friendly with me! I know your foul game!"

Blink. Well... that's different. Hotaru's smile falters a little, then... is replaced with a slight frown.
"I don't know what you're talking about... but it's time for our match... so let's make it a good one, alright?" Simple words, as the girl doffs her heavy jacket, her pet ferret Itokatsu making a cameo appearance, peeking out of one of the pockets, before slipping back in for a nap.
Hotaru walks out to her starting spot and takes up her stance, such as it is, the distance between her feet spreading a little, left arm low, right arm up and bent.

COMBATSYS: Hotaru has started a fight here.

"Sure you don't. Sure you don't." Patronizing, and hostile at the same time! Oh, Tran. You have such a way with words.

Frowning himself, he moves up a couple of steps, not in any real fighting stance, but instead just standing there. Watching Hotaru. Waiting for the fight to start.

And there it is. The announcer in the background has ceased to announce, and that can only mean one thing - it is go time.

With a shout, Dr. Tran charges forward, one fist pulled back, and tries to deck Hotaru right in the face.

COMBATSYS: Tran successfully hits Hotaru with Quick Punch.

And apparently, he gets to do just that, Hotaru staggering from the punch to her face. It doesn't -bother- her as such; she doesn't consider her face precious, like some people might. But it does hurt and that's undeniable.
Hotaru's turn to retaliate, then, is thrown as a low, cutting kick to Tran's shins, aiming to hit with the inside edge of her foot. Swifter than it is strong, though.

COMBATSYS: Tran blocks Hotaru's Light Kick.

A little off-balance after his initial punch, it takes Dr. Tran a few precious moments to steady himself enough. As it turns out, this is just enough time for him to step back and raise his leg slighty, partially deflecting the brunt of Hotaru's kick.

"What? Nothing to say? Hmph!" Stomping the foot he just raised, Dr. Tran spins around in a wide, clumsy spinning clothesline, his forearm absolutely powering around directly toward the side of Hotaru's head.

COMBATSYS: Hotaru dodges Tran's Strong Punch.

Hotaru has little to say during a fight, particularly to an opponent who displays such hostility... it isn't out of anger, more like confusion. What -should- she say? Well, right now, she's got nothing to say because she's ducking under Tran's clumsy spinning clothesline... almost in the same moment reaching out to try aand tag Tran with a single palm-strike, heel shooting out for the good(?) doctor's side.

Luckily for the doctor, he's still got his other hand free. He was hoping that attack would hit, but not putting too hope into it. Tran's still got a backup plan, as he brings his free arm in tight to take the palm-strike right on the bicep.

Completing his spin, Dr. Tran tenses slightly, and then pushes forward toward Hotaru, bringing his knee up in an attempt to nail her solidly in the gut.

If she doesn't want to talk, fine. Tran will just beat the crap out of her for wonderful League Points.

Hotaru brings her arms down to block that kick, just in time, pushing off with her legs to allow the momentum of the kick to give her some room to breathe--and breathe she does, taking a slow, calming breath... Tran's obvious anger is shaking her, quite a bit, and she can't let that happen... if she's going to win this match she's got to maintain her focus on the fight and not let Tran faze her any more.

COMBATSYS: Hotaru focuses on her next action.

Breathing room, eh? Dr. Tran can work with breathing room. He takes a step or two back, himself, after Hotaru moves off like that. More than a step or two, in fact, back all the way to one corner of the makeshift ring.

Reaching behind him, he grabs one of the corner poles, and then simply yanks it out of the ground - it wasn't in there very firmly after all, not being intended to be permanent in any fashion.

Naturally, the doctor does the only thing with it he can at this point. Slice off the tape attached to it with two quick chi-enhanced chops of his hand, and then hurl the pole like a javelin at Hotaru.

So that's how Tran wants to play it, eh? Hotaru rises, facing the makeshift javelin without fear in her eyes. As it comes in, Hotaru waits until almost the last minute, kicking up and out, a blue chi field forming.... for what?
To do what most physicists would say is impossible... to send the javeling flying -right back- at Tran. He can deal with it, if he wants; Hotaru isn't terribly interested in it.

Well, that's a shame, because that javelin is about to come right back at her. Dr. Tran holds back for a moment, waiting for it to get back to him...and then in an equally implausible manner thrusts his palm out at it, a dull grey circle of condensed chi-steam on it.

Doink.

And zoom, goodbye javelin!

Somehow... Hotaru thought Tran might be able to do something like that... if he hadn't pulled off his own reflect then he might've pulled up another stake to bat the javelin back... so Hotaru is prepared with her own response.
Her right hand glows bright white for a second, edged in blue, and once again her reaction is just before the javelin would hit--it's blown apart by a burst of white-blue chi that then forms into a pulsing ball that flies off towards Tran.

Good call, Hotaru - Tran reaches down after he sends the javelin back at the young lady, grabbing the severed tape that leads to another pole. With a quick yank, he send it flying toward him, catching it just in time to see a big ball of blue death soaring in at him.

With no time to really aim, he just whips his new javelin around, sending the side of it crashing into the ball, pretty much utterly destroying both.

Cracking his neck, he notes, "Come on, now. I'm sure you can do better than that."

Right behind that ball--hit, miss, or whatever--is Hotaru. First in a dash, then in a leap, flying through the air... attempting to tag Tran in the head. And yet... she still seems unsettled, that mocking tone getting to her perhaps, along with the earlier aggression. It's very unsettling. Very much unlike fighting Alma, or Mimiru... or just about anyone else. Not even Jiro brought about this level of aggression towards Hotaru...

Can you say, 'issues'? Good, I knew you could. But when things have gotten to the point where 12-year old little girl ninjas just attack you in the middle of the night, well. Maybe you would have some issues, too.

Raising both arms up in front of his head, Dr. Tran is still forced a step back by the kick. However, that does leave Hotaru in the air - probably rapidly coming toward the ground, but still. That's opportunity, baby.

Taking a step forward, Tran hauls back and just throws a punch, looking to hit whatever part of Hotaru is at fist-level.

Once again, Tran's punch hits home, sending Hotaru tumbling to the ground. This fight... is clearly not going in her favor... perhaps she underestimated her opponent, or perhaps it's just not her night... or whatever. She rolls away from Tran, standing, dusting herself off, the corners of her lips tugging down into a small frown, the most visible sign of her frustration. Right now... she can't smile. No matter how much she would like to.

COMBATSYS: Hotaru gains composure.

So, she's backed off again? Hm. This is a strange turn of events, so far - Dr. Tran, actually /winning/ a fight? Madness, I'm sure.

However, whatever remorse the doctor may have for his actions isn't showing here, as despite everything, this is a fight. A league fight, at that. Even if he were, theoretically, to feel sorry for Hotaru, what's he going to do? Forfeit? Of course not.

Since he has a moment, again, Dr. Tran rolls his head around for a moment, and is then off again, dashing toward Hotaru to turn her into paste. This time, the recipe of the day is a straight head to head collision, as Dr. Tran rears back and delivers a massive headbutt toward Hotaru.

Hotaru tries to weave out of the way. It should be simple, after all... Tran's attack is not crafty, or even particularly speedy.
Instead, Hotaru sees stars, as Tran's headbutt impacts solidly. It sends her reeling back, once more... but she refuses to just back off this time. Her rear foot steps back, stopping the slide... and suddenly she bursts forward with uncommon speed, skipping forward, her arms windmilling around in a fierce flurry of attacks... once, twice she goes around, heedles off Tran's reaction--this is one combination of attacks she can't just stop--and after the second revolution she shifts her momentum nearly straight up, only slightly forward, spinning even faster, hoping to assault the Doctor with her shoulders and elbows. And even then, even if all that doesn't quite work, she still dives at Tran with both knees leading, blue chi flaring up from the point of probable impact on her knees, sheathing the girl in energy for a brief moment.

Alma heads south to Chinatown.

Ducking back, away from Hotaru, Dr. Tran keeps himself just out of reach of her initial flurry of strikes. It's a close thing, with her almost, /almost/ hitting him several times, brushing by him with hardly an inch to spare.

And then she leaps up and comes blasting down, like some kind of comet. Well, Dr. Tran is a man of action, and he is ready. That same wide, flat palm mirror as before's made a reappearance, reformed through Tran's will - and it's that will that keeps it together as he thrusts it Hotaru's knees.

Suffice to say, there are some flashy fireworks for a moment, as Hotaru's descent it straight stopped by that little mirror for just long enough to allow Tran to leap away, safe for now. Beads of sweat have gathered on his brow, as that wasn't at all easy. Still he puts a good front up. "Is that really your best? Hah!"

She really has underestimated this man... Hotaru drops to her feet, one of her best attacks just... stopped. That's never happened to her before. Were she in a different position she would take it as a learning experience, but she's not in the best mindset for that. Were she another person, she might snap back at Tran... but she can't let him get to her... once again, she backs off, hoping to get her focus back.

COMBATSYS: Hotaru focuses on her next action.

Cracking his knuckles, Tran takes a few steps forward, face neutral. He's not so much angry anymore, so much as he's intent on finishing the job here. She's still maintaining silence...well, maybe that's really a blessing. Memories of Riko and Mimiru flash through the doctor's brain, and he frowns. Definately a blessing.

He halts then, as he steps on something. A shattered piece of one of the thrown poles. Well, why not? He bends down, picks it up, and then chucks it sidearm at Hotaru before continuing his slow, steady advance.

Southtown Village is -not- really... a very busy place usually, so Hotaru's going to have to improvise; throwing a Hakki Shou would be nice, but would probably tire her out too much right now. So, she turns... and finds a trashcan lid. She actually deflects the sidearmed pole-piece before frisbeeing the lid right for Tran's head.

COMBATSYS: Tran negates Large Thrown Object from Hotaru with Double American Hero Cutter.

Dr. Tran's ongoing advance looks like it's going to be have to cut short for a moment, as he has an incoming trash can lid to deal with. Bringing one hand up diagonally over his chest, the doctor slashes downward with one hand, sending a razor-sharp blade of compressed steam shooting downward at an angle, followed up quickly by another one. Perhaps too quickly, really, as the first impacts the lid, causing it to spin about in midair. Then the second cutter hits, disintegrating and knocking the lid down.

Tran's expression is inscrutable as afterward, he continues forward toward Hotaru.

It's definitely impressive... Tran has so far dealt with everything that Hotaru's thrown at him with incredible ease. But Hotaru, see... she just doesn't give up, ever, and so once again she's rushing in behind the projectile, still seeking to find a way to win... she can do it, she's sure. And yes, yes, she's still quiet. But it's because she's thinking, focusing, concentrating. Tran isn't an opponent she can afford to banter with. In her own way, it's a sign of respect from the young woman towards the advancing, steam-wielding Doctor.
Tran's advance is met with Hotaru's own head-on charge... but she stops short, turning her momentum into a side-on thrust kick... and finally she vocalizes, at the least, a short kiai.

COMBATSYS: Hotaru successfully hits Tran with Heavy Kick.

Really, Tran should have been expecting that. It's to his detriment that he wasn't, as Hotaru manages to nail him directly in the gut. He doubles over with a grunt, staggering backward a step.

That...that hurt. That hurt a lot. Rising up and taking a step forward, it's with a shout of his own that Tran brings one foot back and then slings it straight forward, arcing upward toward Hotaru's chin.

Apparently Hotaru has decided to make this a stand-up fight... which is unusual given her own lack of, well, physical ability to take hits. This hit, however, is half-dodged, the foot of the Tran bouncing off her chin as she twists her head.... and then she takes the opportunity that Tran created to reach out and grab his shoulders, using them as leverage. Leverage for what?
Why, for Hotaru to suddenly stomp her way up Tran's body, left right left, the last right a kick to Tran's head that gives Hotaru the momentum she needs to backflip off and away.

Pro Tip: oh god the pain why god why

Hotaru pretty much gets to have her way with Tran, up until she kicks off of his head, sending his sprawling in the dirt. Pushing himself up dizzily with one hand, he grimaces. That wasn't pleasant.

"Damn..." Shaking his head, Tran slowly gets up onto his feet, off-balance and looking far less implacable than he did moments ago. Taking a hesitant step forward, he starts building up chi - steam appears out of nowhere, rippling up and down both arms. Another step, and then he breaks out into a run, bringing one arm back. The steam on that side runs down, sheathing his fist in white.

As soon as he gets close to Hotaru, Dr. Tran rotates his entire body, bringing his fist down, around, and then straight up, looking to give Hotaru the most painfully explosive uppercut he can manage.

COMBATSYS: Tran successfully hits Hotaru with Here Comes Dr. Tran.

And the uppercut hits. Boom. It's like the scene in Jaws where the guy shoots an oxygen tank in the shark's mouth, except it's on the end of a punch. The impact is more than enough to send Hotaru's light frame airborne straight upward.

That's not all, though, because as she comes down, Dr. Tran is preparing. His other fist held way back, he hits her with a near identical punch, except this time it's purely horizantal. Needless to say, the impact is massive.

And that, folks--that should end the fight. The second punch throws Hotaru clear across the ring to bounce off something. But she's not down yet... not -yet-... practically dead on her feet, still she makes an attempt to redeem herself. Rushing forward, attempting to close the gap between Tran and herself, she throws herself into the combination of attacks that Tran stopped earlier; the twice-around whirlwind spin, the upwards strike, the double-knee strike... it's just that her player's too tired to detail it here, and it's a final action so it might get dodged since it's not chigasm and only Alma would dodge the chigasm, that ghey freak. ( <3 Alma really. )

COMBATSYS: Hotaru can no longer fight.

The fact of the matter is, it didn't work the first time. After those punches, Hotaru's not performing up to those lofty standards of before. It's far easier for Tran to duck away from the punches, only to stop Hotaru's plunging chi-enhanced knee-strike dead in its tracks with his resummoned mirror. It's still not easy, and the slightest mistake would see Tran taken out...but he manages it.

Stepping back afterward, the combatant left standing, Tran is signaled the winner. Wearily, he pumps a fist, smiles for the camera, and walks off. After that, he needs a nap.

COMBATSYS: Tran has ended the fight here.
