Neo League 201 - #221: Terry vs Ken

Description: Battle of the Blondes! In which the reigning US Champ proves he has the trousers to match his mouth, and then some. Ryu? You need to work harder. Seriously. (Winner: Ken)

The arena is packed, the profits through the roof. But when you have KEN VS. TERRY as the main event? That's just expected. Last names aren't even needed. It's THE Ken, THE Terry. Some of the best fighters in the world fighting one another? Tickets in the nose bleed section cost about a hundred and can get over a thousand dollers for the ringside seats. It's insane, but the fight promises to be nothing less than fantastic. The lesser fight have already been said and done, the 'highlight' videos having been played on massive projection TVs. Now it is time for the main event.

Ken really doesn't hear exact WHAT the announcer says, but when the loud voice of 'KEN... MAASSSSTERS!' is heard over the loud shouts and cheers, the American just tightens his belt a final time before making his way out to the center of the rather expensive ring. He gives a wave, a peace sign, AND a thumbs up on the way out all the way until he gets to the center of the arena. Mostly for the many cameras that are going off. After all, press coverage of fights like this is expected. It's big league stuff after all.

"And his opponent..."

"From Southtown, Japan!"

That brings another surge in the crowd, banners waving madly and various cheers echoing from the Japanese contingent. There's little to distinguish between the props given the two men - just like many would find it hard to distinguish between their unique abilities. Ken is more than a bootleg Ryu, and Terry is far more than another self-made brawler... these are fighting legends despite their youth. Would any other introduction be expected?

"TERRY.. BO-GAAAAARD!"

And just like that, the Hungry Wolf bursts out through the stage door at a brisk stride, confidence shining in his bright blue eyes and a crooked grin playing on his lips. This is what he lives for after all, and he could hardly be more pumped. The Masters name is well known to him, but they've never had a chance to meet in battle.. the Neo League has provided that opportunity, and Ken's call was one he could not fail to accept. Adrenaline is already surging through his veins, and it shows. Stopping his forward momentum once he reaches the centre of the ring, the ponytailed blonde bounds off his feet, hopping twice upon his heels, and then spinning around to toss a wide salute to the crowd.

"Okay!!" His other hand lifts, palm coming down firmly upon his eternal cap, pulling it clear before with a snapping motion it's sent whirling out over the barrier to land just beyond the most expensive seats - prompting a squeal of delight from the recipient. "Ha! Let's do this." Turning about to face his opponent, Terry calms down somewhat, grin slipping to a more controlled expression as he reaches into his back pocket briefly. No prizes for guessing what hangs snagged there, and a moment later he's wearing the /real/ cap, pulling it over his eyes in a single smooth movement. "Always wondered if y'were as good as they say. Care to kick us off?"

COMBATSYS: Terry has started a fight here.

Watching Terry with a somewhat confident smirk, Ken figures he will defintely put on one HECK of a show for the fans. Terry might be one of the best, but well, Ken hasn't gotten to where he is just because of his good look (though they might have helped him a little bit). Waiting for Terry to ready himself, Ken just gets into his fighter's stance. There is no ref out here... Both for the safety for the ref and the fact that to Ken, they aren't needed. He doesn't expect Terry to try and bite off his ear or the like.

As soon as Terry gives the offer, Ken gives a small nod in response. "Well, since you asked so nice," he begins with a grin before he races right for Terry, trying to shoot his foot straight up to clock Terry right in the chin before bringing down the mighty heel on the way down to Terry's shoulder. That kick went right up to Ken's chest. Looks like he is keeping himself flexible, but there is likely some 'special' training that is responsible for that. What kinda training? Well, best not to ask, there are kids watching this fight.

COMBATSYS: Ken has joined the fight here.

COMBATSYS: Terry endures Ken's Inazuma Kakato Wari.

Terry            0/-------/-----==|=------\-------\0              Ken

Between two warriors like this, there could never be need for a mediator - good sportsmanship and a grounded character go a long way to guaranteeing safety in a battle, and at this level they've both taken harsher beatings than they could ever wish on others. There's only one way a fighter gets this good, after all, no matter /what/ they're born with. Terry knows this, but he also holds no illusions. This will be a tough match, and he intends to throw out everything he has. For the audience, for Ken Masters... and for himself. Never one to miss a chance for improvement, the Wolf is running at full speed tonight.

Which might make his reaction to that headlong charge seem a little odd. Returning Ken's enthusiasm with a speedy two-fingered salute shot from the peak of his cap, he makes no other motion beside simply falling back into his stance. That is, until that foot rises up, when with a sudden jerk he whips his head back and steps away, eating the full impact upon a clenched jaw but dropping down low in preparation for the return blow. It crunches against his shoulder at full strength, but the elder Bogard seems unperturbed, eyes flashing as he uses the brief opening to rush forward into his opponent.

"POWER..!" His blur of motion lasts only long enough for a shoulder to be forcefully slammed into Masters' gut, the intent to buckle him low and set him up for what follows - a leap upward, Terry aiming to carry the other man's full weight heavenward on his gathered momentum. Spinning in the air to gain distance and lend strength to his arm as it whips outward, he ends the technique by bringing a massive punch down into a hopefully prone chest. "DUNK!!" On impact chi /explodes/ from his fist, knuckles lit by a fiery red-gold burst, the force of which propels Ken directly into the arena floor and even speeds Terry's own descent.

He couldn't be holding back any less.

COMBATSYS: Ken blocks Terry's Power Dunk.

Terry            0/-------/-----==|===----\-------\0              Ken

Ken knows exactly what Terry is doing. Taking the weaker attack in order to try a powerful move. Of course, getting the word 'POWER' yelled at him knows that even though the attack hit, that trouble looms for Ken Masters. The shoulder hits as Terry plans, but not in the way it has planned, hitting Ken's left arm that is pinned against his gut for defense, the arm being raised to block the punch that tries to come for his chest as well. The guard on Ken's arm actually gets blasted a bit, the arm section of it getting ripped in two by the strong attack. However, the front part protecting and buffering the fist stays on, which is a good thing because it ensured that Terry isn't going to get some lasting pain rather than just a headache if he loses. And considering how much that blocked attack hurt, that is a pretty big if at this point.

"Nice move," Ken replies before he tries to take Terry by the shirt, rolling back with him a few times in a trio of backrolls before launching him with a foot. At least, that's the idea. If it actually works? That's another question all together.

COMBATSYS: Terry blocks Ken's Jigoku Fuusha.

Oof. Nothing quite like slamming into an effective guard with such a brutal attack. Feeling his fist slam down and erupt against hardened leather and even tougher muscles brings a further twinge of excitement - it was a pretty basic trick, and for Ken not to slither into the trap proves him to be exactly as reputed. So when he recovers from the somewhat nullified manuever, Terry actually wears the ghost of a grin, a slight twisting of the lips echoing well the spark in his gaze. Not that he has long to enjoy a recovery, and Ken is there before he can properly react, hands gripping his t-shirt.

"Yeah, I practice a fair bit," the Hungry Wolf responds in good humour, about to punctuate the comment with a chuckle when the breath is dragged from his lungs. Over and over he goes, held up against the limber Masters right before he's pitched across the arena - it's a nice way to disorient an opponent, and against anyone else is might have worked. Terry manages to reverse himself in the air, turning a fall into a tight flip and coming down hard upon rapidly extended heels. "...pretty good yerself..." It's barely a murmur and tails off quickly, as he looks back at the gi-clad man with a considering expression.

The pause does not last long. Barely a second later, he whirs about quickly, body becoming little more than a streaking red blur as he hurls himself back into the fray. As he travels his back hits the sand, and not six feet away from Masters he uses the leverage from an applied forearm to launch into a fast sweeping kick. Clearly it's designed to stagger his opponent rather than cause real damage, and the second strike that follows comes as Terry soars back to his full height, spinning around to deal a swinging roundhouse from the opposite leg. "FIRE KICK!"

COMBATSYS: Ken endures Terry's Fire Kick.

Terry            0/-------/-======|======-\-------\0              Ken

The crowd is going NUTS. After all, it is clear that this fight is going to be extreme. Both fighters are taking hits and clearly having quite a challenge. People are defintely feeling they are getting their money's worth right about now.

The roar of the crowd brings a bit of energy to Ken as he leps back to his feet a split second after Terry lands on the ground. He doesn't get much time to figure out how he will defeat Terry, as he sees the fast man moving along the ground. Of course, normally he would dodge such moves, but Terry isn't considered a master of the martial arts for nothing, and in that split second Ken knows that it won't work at all. The sweeping kick does the trick, but as it hits, Ken already knows what he is going to do. As Terry rises and kicks, Ken just becomes more fluid in his stance, the hit not knocking him over, but rather sending him into a spin. A spin that he controls.

As he spins about, he draws his fist to his side, letting it start to give off some heat as he kneels down a little. As he makes the full circle, he leaps into action, letting his fist scream toward the heavens as it erupts into a beautiful and flashy display of flames. It's a famed move, one that Terry likely expected and knows, but Ken hopes that by taking the hit, the opening presented will be enough to take Terry off guard. And of course, there is a familiar cry as Ken flies two feet into the sky.

"Shoryuken!!"

COMBATSYS: Ken successfully hits Terry with Shoryuken.
-* CRITICAL HIT! *-

[            \\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\  < >  ////////////////////          ]
Terry            1/------=/=======|=======\-------\1              Ken

Expected? No. It's a motion that catches Terry almost completely off his guard. Almost.

The Hungry Wolf can feel something decidely wrong in the way his whirling Converse strikes his opponent. Ken takes a solid hit - no doubt about it - but that willingness to move with the strike does not go unnoticed by the Southtown legend. His eyes widen as he comes around, seamlessly flying through the last of his own motion before coming about facing the already rising Masters. He knows the move. He's felt its strength in the hands of another, and under normal circumstance might some chance of defending, but here there is no time nor space. That flaming fist crashes across his ribs and into his chin, lifting Terry from his feet with a pained grunt.

His arc back to earth is graceless, and when he lands with chi flames still billowing across his front he bounces twice, spine painfully crushed against the arena's grassy side. He finally comes to a stop beside the trees, already bearing the prescence of mind to roll himself up to a crouch but aching all over from the after-effects of Ken's famous technique. "And here I thought /Ryu/ had that move down..." A chuckle spills forth this time, accompanied by a single headshake. This is everything he'd hoped. Painful as the blow was, adrenaline conquers all, and after sucking in a quick breath the Wolf is back on his feet, moving a step forward then breaking into a powerful sprint.

Six steps give all the speed he needs.

"HAAAH!" Bogard leaps up into the air, coming in toward the no doubt recovered Masters with a lithe rotation of his form - the blow lacks a power it might ordinarily have but it falls fast all the same, a single solid heel spinning about to catch Ken with a hefty strike to the chest. Should it land, a shift in momentum comes as Terry pushes off those solid muscles to propel himself in the opposite direction.

After a hit like that, he needs to buy some recovery time.

COMBATSYS: Ken blocks Terry's Medium Kick.

Ken merely shakes his head. "Sorry, but when it comes to that move... I think I know it a BIT better than he does," he admits confidently as he races for the fellow battling blond. He stops his dash as the kick flies out, Ken just bring his right arm up in order to take the jarring blow. As Terry does the push off, Ken races after to where he lands, likely getting himself in or close to the woods. Whereever Terry goes, the attack is still the same, Ken trying to give his foe a swift foot to the side with a rather weak but lightening quick kick. After all, if there is one thing that Ken can do well, it's speed.

COMBATSYS: Ken successfully hits Terry with Light Kick.

Terry            1/----===/=======|=======\=------\1              Ken

"No kidding!"

The response from Terry comes with a breathless edge as he lands, not a million miles from where was estimated. Getting himself into a decent stance takes only an instant but preparing for the Masters brand of speed requires a little longer - time he does not have, and so he's only barely beginning to twist himself away when the lightweight blow slams into his side, sending him in a stumble to one side. This hardly carries the grace that the Wolf would usually desire to throw out what he attempts next, but he knows too well that a dash like that can leave a man open, so.. he casts aside his own momentary disorientation, and immediately hurls himself into Ken's flank.

"Overshoot!"

Terry's aura flares shortly before he attempts to connect with the initial shoulder ram. It's a swift and simple blow designed, once more, only to stagger the Ansatsuken master, and this would seem disproportionate to the rising spirit in the ponytailed blonde. Even his next motion is the same, as he uses the created opening to rear up into a spinning uppercut, fist lashing upward to lift Ken clean off his feet and a good distance into the air. Completing his own short trip off the ground rather more quickly, the Hungry Wolf pitches down into an offensive crouch, that raised fist jackhammering down into the earth. Then the build-up makes sense, as a massive pillar of chi erupts before him, slanting upward to engulf his falling opponent. "GEYSAAAAH!!"

COMBATSYS: Ken dodges Terry's Overshoot Geyser.

Still smiling from when he offered the difference between Ken and Ryu... Ken shows ANOTHER key difference as he senses the powerful aura. That is key to know that he has only one shot to get out of harm's way. As the powerful attack comes his way, he just breaks stance and leaps out of the way of Terry's attack, breaking into a roll as the chi smashes into the ground. Ken is on one knee with his back toward Terry as the massive pillar explodes behind him, sending his hair blowing about his face. "...That likely would have hurt," Ken points out, just glad that his speed and luck pulled him out of what would have been sure to be a painful super. He gets up and pushes himself off. "That was some real nice moves there, Terry!" he calls out, just taking the time to get himself back into a decent stance once more after his successful dodge attempt.

Ryu is strong in most areas, prefering a strong and balanced approach, where there is nothing TOO outstanding, but together, a extremely powerful harmony of speed and strength. Ken relies much more on his speed and his luck, which seem to be serving him pretty well thus far.

Of course, the crowd bursts into a frenzy once more at Terry's display, some surprised or mad that Ken dodged (most of them being the Terry fans) while the Ken fans give more hoots and hollers AFTER Ken is seen still standing, as the blast of chi send up a decent bit of ground and sand.

COMBATSYS: Ken focuses on his next action.

Talk about the unexpected. Launching the attack at such close range and with a worn-down Ken Masters seemed like the perfect opportunity to gain a lead in this bout - but instead Terry finds himself spinning through the air and completing his manuever without an opponent in sight. He can only hope the chi column manages to put a dent in whatever tight evasion the other warrior has made, but on straightening from his crouch with a guard raised quickly and warily, he finds himself the subject of commentary from an apparently very much unscathed foe.

"...hmph." A smirk flickers onto his lips, and the Hungry Wolf turns around slowly to face Ken, shaking his head before he sends out a more verbal reply. "Nice, huh? Call me an idiot, but I'd say ya went an' outniced me, buddy." He punctuates this with a step back, gaze settling on the Ansatsuken fighter and intensifying as he falls back into a deep focus. No doubt about it.. he's on the losing end here, but rather than press an attack into a prepared opponent he might as well take the chance to get his own tricks together.

Shoulders setting firmly, feet finding flat positions against the floor, Terry's fists clench to either side and a flare of energy begins to dance around his bared flesh. "We're not done yet though," he murmurs, those blue eyes regarding Ken carefully. His lips twitch upward once more, and he gives a single, brisk nod. "Bring it on."

COMBATSYS: Terry gathers his will.

"Hey, some days I got it... Some days I don't. All depends if Lady Luck still loves me or if I have earned her wraith for the day," the American Karate Champ offers with a good natured tone. Even if he gets creamed from here on out, at least he made a DARN good show. Either way, he puts his palms together, summoning chi energy before sending them out toward Terry with a powerful thrust. With the loud cry of "Hadouken!" he lets out a basketball sized ball of chi toward the other fighter. Looks like there is the move that Ryu is better than Ken at since it is just pitiful compared to Ryu's. It's still enough to take down a man...

Just a normal man though, not a Terry man. Because a Terry man can punch through steel and kick a hole through a redwood. If a Terry man would ever WANT to kick a hole through a redwood. Maybe if it was an EVIL Geese Owned Redwood, but he doesn't have any of those. At least not yet.

COMBATSYS: Ken successfully hits Terry with Hadouken.

Kicking Geese is something /like/ kicking a redwood. A smirking, rich redwood intent on building his own criminal empire to make Terry's life a living hell for all eternity. But no - regardless of how much skill might be wielded by the Ansatsuken duo, one projectile would never be enough to lay flat the legendary American vagabond. As Ken now proves however, it can be enough to make a pretty large dent.

Terry doesn't throw out a reply this time, simply allowing a small chuckle to break past his lips while his attention busies itself primarily with the chi he can feel welling up from inside the fighting businessman. Those palms coming together is all the sign he needs to throw his forearms up in an 'x' block, teeth gritting as he summons his own energy to burn away as much of the impact as impossible. Reinforcing himself through rather less than mundane means, he comes seemingly well prepared for the assault. But is anything ever that simple?

The Hungry Wolf disappears beneath an unexpected explosion as the Hadouken splashes across his front, driving him back fully three feet, his plastic heels tearing furrows in the earth. "Ngh.. looks like you've been doin' her some major favours..." he mutters, a shake of his head dispelling the flashing lights from his eyes. Masters really knows how to hit. Luckily, so does Terry. A grin spilling across his lips despite the pain he's just experienced, he plows through the dissipating chi before him at a dash, closing on Ken quickly and then launching himself forward off one leg. The other tucks up close to his chest as he flies and a fist draws back... looks like something big...

Until he comes to a halt directly in front of Ken, dropping down to a standing position and lashing out with a single, unrefined jab to the nose. "Heads up!"

COMBATSYS: Terry successfully hits Ken with Jab Punch.

Ken gets nailed with the swift and surprisingly painful punch, taking a step back to avoid falling on his butt. He decides to make this a slugfest, merely pulling back his own fist to trying and give a powerful counter to smash against Terry's cheek, ignoring the bit of blood that is coming from his nose. Of course, Terry would also notice that Ken is looking rather sweatly and tired. Looks like all of his luck still doesn't make him unstoppable. "I have my moments" is all he can manage to say in response.

A slugfest it is, and it remains one as Terry barely has time to see the speedy counter-attack. Ken might notice a token effort to deflect the blow with a raised hand and a turn of his cheek before his fist hammers right on through to nail the overextended Bogard in the face. Unstoppable? Maybe not. But he's doing a great job of seeming that way, and the Southtown natives in the audience have a little cause for concern as their chosen hero staggers back from the blow. He has his own tricks though. Many might expect what occurs next, as the Wolf turns his potentially graceless retreat into a direct offensive, spinning around and once more wearing a crooked grin.

Chi coalesces around his retracted fist in an instant, a red-gold inferno forming a striking edge about his knuckles. It comes in perfect synch with the leap forward, Terry's feet leaving the ground in a manner much like his last approach before he hurls his fist forward to lead the assault. It's an incredibly fast and powerful motion. What a way to end a good punch up.

"BURNING!!"

COMBATSYS: Terry successfully hits Ken with Burn Knuckle.

In one blinding moment of pain, Ken's luck decides to look the other way. Ken brings up his arms in almost a causal manner. While it is still fast, it isn't fast enough and Ken's pride causes him to get a face full of burning knuckle. It sends him flying a bit, landing back out to the sand again, his cheek starting to swell up.

The fans are going beyond crazy, shouts of varying things and names going through the air. The one that cries out 'KEN'S RIPPING OFF DAN' is soon silenced painfully by close fans. There is no real lasting harm, as the culture of the crowd isn't THAT savage, but the wedge given to the outspoken fan was likely someone's Max attack or something. No one is allowed say stuff like that. Not here. Not now.

Getting up with a grunt, Ken still manages to give a smirk despite the pain, getting some sand and hair from his face. "Okay, clearly you aren't out of this yet. Good." With that, Ken just leaps into action, trying to take Terry by the shirt and if he gets him, tosses him toward the waters with a roundhouse kick to help him on his way. Ken's not out of this fight yet either.

Terry            1/----===/=======|>>>>>>>\>>>>>>>\2              Ken

Terry lands cleanly from his trademark strike, drawing back his fist with a quick intake of breath and retreating a single step to fall into his stance. "Not yet." He affirms with a wry smile, knowing full well he's one solid hit away - but Ken likely knows that just as well as he does, given the slight sluggish note creeping into his movements and the sheen coming over his eyes. He expected a close fight, but nothing like the level of class that Ryu's old buddy is displaying. Little wonder he was able to take the US crown. With the right application and some good fortune he could take top pegging just about anywhere.

But despite anything else... no. The Hungry Wolf still stands, and when Ken approaches him he gives a sharp twist from the upper body, attempting to rearrange that grip just enough that he can perform some aerial evasion and come back swinging. It's not to be. That follow-up kick takes him hard in the back and propels the ponytailed blonde across the arena, his right leg catching on the sand to pitch him a little harder into the water. He's far enough away and damaged enough that he shouldn't be a threat right now. However.

Hope springs eternal and the fighting spirit of Terry Bogard burns strong. There is no way he'll give up without one last say in this battle, it would disgrace him and his opponent. Pushing himself up with a groan, dripping wet but careless of this fact, he turns to face Ken in a half-crouch, gasping in a breath and then casting out a chuckle. "Apologies, man..." Tailing off with a blink of his eyes, he suddenly breaks into action, a /thunderous/ surge of chi greeting the motion as he hurls himself into a crouch. His right fist raises far above his head and then hurtles down with a mighty hiss of air. Knuckles strain as they impact the ground, and an energy pillar erupts from the water. "YAAAA!"

It doesn't end there.

The Wolf's opposite fist comes down in a nearly identical strike, sending the clear liquid scattering to either side as he summons a second, larger column before the first. Rising to the height of the arena wall, it threatens to clip Masters even now - but the third time will be the charm. "TRIPLE! GEEEEYSAAAAAH!" A second time the right hand falls, leather screaming a protest as it's strained by sheer power, and the blazing red-gold eruption now spreads out to encompass nearly the full arena's width. Panting hard, Terry keeps his fist down on the soaking sand, ignoring the sloshing waters around as he channels the absolute last of his strength...

If Masters also manages to evade this...

He's one helluva fighter in the Wolf's book.

COMBATSYS: Terry can no longer fight.

COMBATSYS: Ken dodges Terry's Power Geyser.

Ken blinks as the attack comes his way... And he just takes to the skies, giving a powerful leap to avoid the attack. Landing about ten feet to the left of Power Geyser, Ken does one of two things. If Terry is just laying there defeated by still awake? He'll offer him his hand with a "Good fight, sure you'll get me next time" but if he is down and out? He'll just go over toward Terry and help him up to avoid him drowning in half an inch or water or something. Because that would just be a retarded way to go. Which means that Ken is really tempted to do that to Rolento if he ever catches him and pounds him. Sadly, Ken is a hero, so he can't kill anyone on purposes. Curses.

COMBATSYS: Ken has ended the fight here.

Terry is still conscious, albeit barely. After throwing the last of his remaining energy into the arena floor - no doubt causing fair damage in the process - he watches the dissipating chi for a moment before looking toward Ken as the man approaches. Breathless and exhausted after the sheer /effort/ of that last gambit, the Hungry Wolf all the same manages an impressed half-grin, eyeing the Ansatsuken master with mild disbelief as he's helped to his feet. When last he checked, even Ryu can't give him a fight like that.

"Maybe," he responds to the comment with a single shake of the head, reaching up to adjust his cap and then to brush some sand from his body-warmer. Never mind the fact he's soaked to the skin. "Y'can rest assured I'll be making damn sure there /is/ a next time. Thanks for the fight, Mr. Masters..." Grin widening as he uses the honorific, Bogard reaches over to drop his hand on Ken's shoulder, a slightly weak but well-intentioned congratulatory pat, and then simply turns.. and walks away...

There will be a next time.

Right after he asks Ryu what the heck Ken's secret is.
