Neo League 151 - #157: Adelheid vs Mimiru

Description: Youngest fighter in the Neo League, versus the newcomer to the Neo League. How far will Mimiru's spirit carry her? (Winner: Adelheid)

So, when you're an unknown in the fighting world, matchups get a bit unpredictable. You can almost hear Forrest stammering out his chocolates line now. After a nail-biting fight against Heavy D!, the youth known only as 'Adel' finds himself matched up against.. possibly the only professional fighting younger than he is! He's not sure what to expect out of the girl, but he's here to fight. These battles are tests... of himself, of the training he's been given by his father, of the other fighters in the world. Scouting the competition, so to speak, and evolving his own slowly personalizing hybrid style.
Clad in jet black, from his head to his toes, Adelheid slips out of the leather jacket, leaving him in black jeans and a skintight sleeveless shirt, showing off the slender youth's nonetheless rather built physique. He's a Bernstein, after all, slight of frame or no! ... not that anyone knows that yet. Sometimes, enigma is an advantage. A pair of black leather gloves are drawn from his pocket after the jacket is draped over an abandoned food cart on the edge of the street cleared for today's fighting, and Adel tugs them taught on his hands, clenching each into a fist as he strides out towards the center of the cobblestone road, crinking his neck to the side with a subtle crack.

There's one thing Mimiru can brag about -- she -IS- the youngest fighter in the league tournament. Unfortunately, she hasn't really proven to be a prodige or anything of the like, she's still in the lowest ranks of the league, abyssimaly low in points and ratio of win and defeats. Perhaps the girl's not given enough credits for her fighting prowess, enough merits for the incredible feats she can accomplish at her young age... But the fact remains that she still keeps on losing.

Maybe with a bit of luck she could pull of a stunt that would make people notice her! Beat one of the person with a name and get a bit of attention but for now that's not the case. To most she might appear to be a joke -- after all, when one knows her fighting style, The Super Way of Mimiru, it seems a bit mockable but...! It's the spirit that counts with this style and Mimiru definately has the spirit, determination and courage of three persons all together!

Being in Korea, there isn't much of a crowd around to witness the fight that is going to happen between the two fighters -- a good thing. Only the officials. So there's no pressure. Unlike Adel, Mimiru seems... Well, perhaps a little bit pathetic. She's small, frail looking and... Well, she almost seeems like a defenseless little kitten... But! Maybe she's more than meets the eyes!? The girl stretches a little, making a slight warmup before the fight. She glances over to Adel and her lips curl into a grin, "So... You're the one, eh? I was pretty eager to fight you, new face, aren't you? Never seen you about before..."

In contrast to Mimiru... Adelheid could easily be called a fighting prodigy, considering his ability and incredibly young age. Still, he's not going to discount his opponent based simply on her record... some judgement calls are best made with one's own eyes. One of the first lessons Rugal taught him... one can't trust the 'files' or the reports. Not entirely. Being shipped off the nowhereland in Korea to fight one of the lower rungs on the ladder isn't exactly the course Adel would have chosen for himself... but the boy is nothing if not adaptable to his circumstances, calm and pragmatic.
Which isn't to say he's without his own spirit. While he may not possess his father's fiery malevolence, Adelheid certainly has no lack of passion for the fight. That /is/ the path laid out before him, and he certainly means to be noticed... and improve himself. Still, the waif of a girl doesn't do a lot to immediately impress the young Bernstein, who casts an almost disbelieving look at the fight organizers, before returning his eyes to Mimiru, "New to this arena." He answers simply, somewhat mysteriously, though he doesn't look inclined to extrapolate just now, "Let's see what you can do." He invites casually, fists clenching once more as he takes up a fighting stance, the announcer's countdown running out with Adelheid still standing in place... for once.

It's already quite a feat for Mimiru to have made it into the Neo League as it is, she has enough talent that's for sure -- she just happens to be quite a small fry when it comes to the other fighters who are in the league. It's not to say she doesn't have skills, but she's probably a bit lacking compared to others. At the very least, despite her position and many defeats, the girl seems rather cheerful, with a wide grin on her face. Who wouldn't be happy? This is quite an experience after all! She gets to travel around the world, have a lot of exciting experience and fight a lot of different fighters! Of course... It's not always that pleasant, depending on who she gets to fight but still... She gladly aceepts the challenge! Always daring to no end.

Noticing the little look of disbelief on Adelheid's face, Mimiru actually says, "That's right! I'm the one you're going to fight! You didn't get it wrong or anything," Mimiru says with a few nods of her head. Her lips curl into a grin and she puts herself in her combat stance and she says, "I'll do my best! You'll see how mighty the Super Way of Mimiru can be!"

IOnce the countdown is over, Mimiru stands still -- as if she was expecting him to take the initiative. It takes her a few seconds to assess him though and to make out her own decision to strike and attacl him. Directly. Mimiru's eyes widen and she lets out a shout as she dashes over Adelheid's direction, "Waaaaahh!" The girl approaches the boy rapidly and... Instead of actually opting for a kick or a punch or anything the like, she doesn't stop her charge... Nope! She simply leaps on Adelheid, attempting to actually body slam him in hope that her lunging/clinging attack will be enough, if it connects, to make him fall down.

COMBATSYS: Adelheid dodges Mimiru's Super Mimiru Body Slam.

Passing the qualifying rounds is indeed an accomplishment... but it's also not quite on the level of the challenges Adel is used to facing at the hands of people like, well... Rugal. When you've been battered around by one of the greatest fighters on the planet from an early age, such trials seem like cakewalks in comparison. It's not that he's not taking Mimiru seriously, though... arrogant or not, Adelheid is well aware that each fighter has their surprises. Which is probably why the slight girl throughing herself at him isn't enough to catch him off guard. The hybrid-styled youth darts aside with impressive speed, letting Mimiru simply sail right past him, to pull up short past where he was standing, at whatever point she regains her footing.
That footing may be shortlived, though, because the fight is joined now, and the young Bernstein comes in at Mimiru's flank, hard. Dropping low, Adelheid launches a sharp, sweeping thrust for Mimiru's shin, the thrust fluidly leading into a snap of his foot upwards, bringing him out of his crouch and back to his feet in a sudden axe-kick that threatens to bring his bootheel to an impromptu meeting with Mimiru's skull, "I know better than to judge on appearance!" he replies succinctly... though the fact that Adelheid is unhesitating now that battle has been joined may be small comfort to Mimiru.

COMBATSYS: Adelheid successfully hits Mimiru with Double Tomahawk.

That's one of the problem with this specific technique -- while throwing yourself at someone head on like this can be quite deadly if it connects, the result means a lot of damage but the results of a failed attack like this one more than often leaves Mimiru's guard down. This reckless technique has its merits, unfortunately, it's not going to get any praises today. With Adelheid moving aside the avoid the incoming body slam, Mimiru has to actually catch herself not to face first on the ground and while she regains her footing, she's more exposed to Adelheid than she normally would.

Even if Mimiru attempts to make a quick shift to defensive, it's enough enough to avoid the sharp thrust to her shin, "Arg..." Mimiru winces and flinches slightly, however, that's not the end of it though as she gets smacked right behind the head, which causes the little girl to quite literally fall down to the ground face first.

Mimiru grunts a bit in pain.. Her prone position not quite giving her a good advantage on this fight, at least, not a good offensive one but despite this disadvantage, Mimiru still attempts to strike Adelheid by quickly getting back to her feet and giving him a rising punch to his midsection. "Huh... Well glad you don't! 'cause you haven't even started to see what I can do!"

COMBATSYS: Adelheid interrupts Quick Punch from Mimiru with Reppukyaku.

The lightfooted Bernstein snaps his kicking leg back underneath him just as quickly as it launched, bobbing on his heels as he faces the rising Mimiru, giving her that moment to get back to her feet, and launch her attack.... his rich brown eyes track the motion, instinct and training taking the forefront as he pivots away from the punch to his ribcage, the strike glancing off his muscular gut as he suddenly reverses his momentum, again courtesy of that right foot....
This time, though, his heavy boot doesn't seek to connect with Mimiru directly... instead, he kicks in an arc due upwards in front of him, the space below his cleaving heel suddenly billowing with a rush of silvery wind-chi, the grey-touched mass crackling together into a ragged edge of gust-spewing energy, which lurches the short span between the two fighters along the ground, crashing heartily into the lower portions of Mimiru's body, punishing her heartily for her renewed charge, "Good." He responds to her promise of surprises to come with encouragement... if the pride demonstrated can really be considered sincere encouragement, "Because it will take a lot more than that!"

Maybe being that reckless wasn't that paying off.. Mimiru doesn't quite connect with her punch but she can feel her knuckles grazing against Adelheid's shirt. It wasn't a hit but not really a miss either. Unfortunately, Mimiru has fought enough to know that with this kind of parry, considering her position and her defenseless side, odds are that she'll feel the pain again -- it only takes a few seconds, but in this short span of time a lot of things happen, in both the fighter's mind and their way their body move to try and react to each other's action... Unfortunately, Mimiru isn't quite fast enough to protect her exposed flank.

The burst of chi energy dashes right into Mimiru's body, connecting with her and engulfing her more or less. While she attempts to brace for it and hold her ground, the energy that created this large gust actually knock Mimiru back a good couple of feet, the light fighter unable to resist the force applied by the chi and she's actually sent flying away a little.

Her flight is stopped by the wall of an house, thankfully and the impact makes Mimiru wince and let a pitiful groan of pain escape her throat, as if the air was knocked out of her lung. Thankfully though, she manages to catch herself and she stands still instead of crumpling down to the ground after that. Had it been under other circumstances, Mimiru might have been able not to get knocked back by the gust-spewing blast of energy but now... Alas, she was in no position to avoid such a fate.

Attempting to regain her breath, Mimiru glances up to Adelheid and her lips curl into a fain smile as she pants, "Ah... Eh... I'm just getting started... Huh... You just wait and see.." She says as she tries to gather up the strength to resume her combat stance after this blast.

COMBATSYS: Mimiru takes a breather.

Adelheid         0/-------/----===|=======\===----\1           Mimiru

This time, Adelheid remains back as Mimiru takes a moment to regain her breath. He can see what his techniques are doing to the girl, after all... and he's here to test his skills, not run someone into the ground. That's his pop's department. There's no mission here, no critical objective to go all-out to accomplish. This is just a fight, and Adel doesn't really /care/ what league rankings say. Just what he himself observes... and well, what Rugal decides to protest. But he doesn't waste his time, instead centering his attention on Mimiru, studying her movements, waiting for her to renew the battle. To that end, Adel's breathing simply steadies, the young Bernstein looking little the worst for wear, "Show me." He invites calmly, lifting his fists and eyeing Mimiru overtop of them.

COMBATSYS: Adelheid focuses on his next action.

Adelheid         0/-------/----===|=======\===----\1           Mimiru

Panting, Mimiru takes a few moments to regain her breath and composture, taking a few steps away from the wall she crashed into. Her lips curl into a smile as Adelheid waits patiently for her to come at him instead of pressing on his assault, "Time for a round two then..." Mimiru mutters under her breath. This time, she'll have to change her tactic unless she wants to end up like last time and... Well, if she does the same things, odds are she'll probably get beaten up as badly as the first round... And knowing her current state, Mimiru doubts she'd be able to go on again if she gets hit that hard again.

Drop the reckless tactic, Mimiru's going to opt for her best and safe movements. Lips curling into a smile, fingers curling together into a fist, Mimiru leans a little and preparing herself to charge, waiting for the good moment... And when she judges she got it, the girl dashes right over at Adelheid. She rushes up to him as quickly as possible and, just as she gets by his side, before she actually send her fist right to his midsection, bright white chi flares out from her fist like flames, "SUPER MIMIRU PUNCH!!" She shouts as she strikes, her fist not quite connecting but if her fist gets close enough the chi will send a blast of force to Adelheid's midsection.

Adelheid         0/-------/---====|>>>>>>>\>>>>>>>\2           Mimiru

Adelheid merely stands his ground as Mimiru prepares for 'round two'. His eyes don't leave the girl, his attention never wavering, expression darkening only slightly as he judges the speed of her newest assault. Still, Adel stands his ground, the back of his neck tingling as she summons forth the gout of chi, and then the young Bernstein dances back a half-step, one palm snapping out in-line with her incoming fist, a disc of silvery-grey energy whirling to life in his hand, the barrier of chi about the size of his torso in the blink of an eye, all it takes for Mimiru's assault to crash in against it...
And with a flare, and a crackling of black-arcing energy, the white burst slams home... and is stopped dead, its force dissipating outwards through the disc of wind-chi, before the power coruscates back inwards, the entire barrier released outwards, along with Mimiru's own energy, in a shotgun-blast that showers the girl point-blank with her own power. Coupled with Adelheid's, of course, "Faster." He compliments, "Better."

Ineffective. Her punch connects but it doesn't quite hit Adelheid, the chi energy dissipating and fading as she hits some barrier of energy. Mimiru's eyes widen a bit in shock. How can this be? This -IS- the infamous Super Mimiru Punch! It's not supposed to happen, this is the best technique she has. At the very least, it seems Mimiru's struck by surprise as Adelheid manages to defend himself so perfectly from her punch and that moment of discombolution gives him an even better edge at counter-attacking with the blast his own energy.

The girl just closes her eyes as she's surged by the blast, which one causes her to quite literally get knocked back, "Waarg!" She shouts as she flips slightly in the air, only to find herself falling down on her back. Mimiru growls a little and she bites her lips in pain, glancing up to Adelheid, just in time to hear his comments about her attacks. "Wee... Can do even better..." She says, bitting her lips as she attempts to force herself back to her feet rather quickly.

Might as well give it her best, at this point, she has nothing to lose and so, with renewed determination, legs, from feet up to knees flaring out with the same bright white chi energy, Mimiru leaps up in the air air and spins on herself as she tries to give a powerful kick to Adelheid's face, "Super Mimiru Kick!!" She shouts.

Adelheid         0/-------/--=====|>>>>>>>\>>>>>>>\2           Mimiru

Once more, Adelheid merely narrows his eyes at Mimiru's forward assault, "I've seen this before." He murmurs. Sure, it's improved, sure, it's stronger... but it's apparently still not enough, because once more, his palm comes forward, conjuring that dark wall of wind-chi in the instant he has before the flying Mimiru crashes through it and into him. This time, she's airborne, has more forward momentum, looks to be planning to crash right into him with that glowing foot... but it doesn't seem to make much difference to the potent disc wielded at the end of the young Bernstein's palm. Crackling energies contest her flight, the oppositional force substantial enough to /stop/ the girl in midair, and all but reverse her flight, the surging arcs of darkest energy fluctuating more violently along the disc of chi, the white of Mimiru's power absorbed and assimilated into the silver-and-black construct's mass, which once more explodes outwards, showering the self-proclaimed Super Mimiru with her own chi, "Some talent..." He muses, quietly, as much to himself as Mimiru, "But you aren't ready for this." At least it gave him a chance to exercise a bit... but the girl's not out yet, and so he doesn't lower his guard completely, simply lowering his palm and clenching it back into a fist. Still, Mimiru is young... and more accomplished than many of the 'fighters' Adel has seen in his admittedly sheltered life. Really, Rugal was the only warrior of any calibre he fought for many years. Making these exercises both educational... and confidence-building.

This looks familiar... Though there's not much Mimiru can do about it when her kick is actually stopped and the burst of chi energy comes at her. Being in midair, her options of defenses are rather limited and so, the burst of chi only serves to knock Mimiru back and sends her flying. Surely this little girl can't keep on taking a beating, after all of that, I mean... At the very least, Mimiru's pretty aware this is over -- she's not stupid after all, she didn't touch Adelheid just once in the entire fight and she's not even sure if she's going to be able to stand up and give a last effort.

At this point, anyone would judge it pointless, wouldn't they? Well not for Mimiru! The girl has a fighter's pride and she can't go down without actually laying a finger on him or at least doing something, can she? She has to, it's a question of honor!

Gritting her teeth, getting to her knees, Mimiru mutters a bit under her breath, "Well I'm not done yet..." She says. Taking the last of her energy, letting out a slight shout to force herself to it, Mimiru uses her last strength to actually summon a ball of chi between her two hands, which one grows and expands to a resonable size before Mimiru attempts to shoot it off at Adelheid for a last desperate strike. Whatever the result of that is, Mimiru's down for the count after that.

COMBATSYS: Mimiru can no longer fight.

"Yes... you are." Adelheid doesn't look particularly threatened by Mimiru's chi... after all, that /is/ his game. And he plays it well. This time, there's no disc of energy, but he does whip his leg up and around in a stationary leap-kick that rips a nice-sized wave of wind-energy from the ground, the whipping wave rushing outwards in a cleaving edge of pure chi, the powerful cutting lance catching the snow-white sphere midway to him. There's just enough power put into that retort to slice directly through Mimiru's ball, the luminescent waves of white exploding outwards in a shockwave of blinding light, the silvery chi-blade kicked up by Adel dissipating just afterwards. He's not seeking to blast Mimiru after she falls, simply cancel out her own attack... something his father had the good grace to offer to him, and it's good karma to do the same, right?
Landing out of the brief ascent, Adelheid brushes one glove over the front of his black shirt, dusting himself off before he sweeps a hand to his side, a brief glowing remnant of grey chi etching the course of his fingertips, "You fought hard. But you need more than spirit to triumph." Something Adel has had ground into his head from early on.

Not even that was enough to get through Adelheid's defenses. Truly, she is no match for him and she's out and done. The girl leans down, panting a little, keeping her head low. She might find the strength to carry on if she's given a few seconds but the official judges that the fight is over. After all, no point in continuing this.

Mimiru still tries to take her breath back and she closes her eyes, glancing up over to Adel. She bites her lips and then says, "... Well... I did my best... I have no regrets..." Her lips curl into a smile and she says, "Guess that just means you're better than me, you deserved that victory, heh... Very nice... Congratulation.." She offers.

Adelheid nods once to Mimiru in acknowledgement. He's seen what he came here to see, "As it should be." He answers simply. Spirit may not be /enough/.... but it is to be respected. Mimiru is young, with plenty of time to come into her own. That she's able to do it at her own pace, with her own style, well... Adel would almost be jealous of that, if he were a few years younger and hadn't let go of so much of his own rebellion and resentment. Not to say he approves of his father's techniques... but the pragmatic youth certainly seems resigned, and set in his style, "Keep training." He encourages, in a fairly detached tone, turning away from the battlefield to head down the cobblestone street. The judges don't really concern him, the outcome is decided... it's high time the mysterious blonde boy faded right back into the ether.
