Neo League 076 - #88: Guy vs Shingo

Description: Managing not to speak a single word, Guy beats Shingo up for silver points. (Winner: Guy)

There's a loud roar of the crowd from the seats of the Masters' Stadium Red Arena for the fight that is about to begin. The natural setting arena being host today for a Neo League match-up between two well-known and popular fighters: Shingo Yabuki and the Metro City native, Guy. It promises to be an exciting fight given the official records for these two combatants.

Given that it is the first day of winter, the arena's water has frozen over and snow covers the ground. As well as the tree branches of the forest where Shingo finds himself standing waiting for his opponent in what little warmth the sun shining brightly overhead can afford. Dressed as he normally does for a fight and much everything else, the schoolboy adjusts the fingerless gloves on his hands before flexing his fingers and getting ready for the fight.

Clearly, no matter the outcome, the crowd is going to be pleased, because Guy fully intends to make this quite a fight. While he hasn't personally seen Shingo fight in the past, but he's seen the style he purports to use before, even felt it on occasion, and so he knows that Shingo won't be a pushover. Win or lose, the boy is going to be yet another whetstone for the blade that is Guy. The more you fight, the better you get, and make no mistake, Guy has to be good.
Standing opposite Shingo, arms folded, dressed as he usually is despite the nippy weather, Guy waits for the match to start. Easily keeping his balance atop a rock jutting slightly out of the sheet of frozen ice, the bushin ninja cocks his head as he studies his opponent. No words are forthcoming. Shingo probably wouldn't be able to hear over the crowd anyway.

Guy may not be one to exchange words but Shingo is. He knows that the ninja also may not be able to hear him with how loud the audience is but there is one thing that comes across very clearly. Thumbs-up. Shingo holds up his right arm in the gesture towards Guy and gives the man a nod and a grin. Next he returns to his tance and waits for the signal for this fight to commence.

Over the loudspeakers of the arena comes the announcer plainly heard over everything else: "Get ready fighters! Go for broke!" The signal given Shingo darts left and makes his way in between the trees of the forested area as he locks his eyes on Guy and quickly goes through his available options. It's never too early to come up with strategy and tactics.

Giving a single nod in response to Shingo's silent greeting/encouragement/approval/whatever the heck else a thumbs-up could mean, Guy unfolds his arms and waits for the fight to start proper. When it does, he stays still, watching for a forthcoming move from Shingo.
None is coming, however, and so it falls upon Guy to spring into action. Lifting himself up on his heels slowly, standing on the balls of his feet, Guy rushes forward, dashing across the ice and snow, sending up a spray of the stuff behind him. Closing in, he stops running and drops into a lunge, upturning his palm toward Shingo. That in itself is not impressive - what is, is the ball of reddish orange chi that comes flaring forth in a small ball, target: Shingo.

COMBATSYS: Guy successfully hits Shingo with Hibashira.

With some appropriate sound effects, the orange sphere intercepts Shingo's path as he is running and knocks the boy down from his efforts at putting himself in a better situation to make the best of Guy's attack. The only thing is that in these types of battles, it's usually the faster individual that has the advantage over him. Shingo obviously lacking the agility to evade most attacks. Not that it really matters to him. Somehow he always manages to find a way to hit the unhittable and leave quite a mark on them. The question is will he be able to do it this time around as well?

When he hits the ground it's only for a second since he springs up off of both hands to reclaim his footing in the snow, sliding slightly. He grins and then charges straight on at Guy. When it really comes down to it he should stick to what he's good at and that is keeping the pressure on opponents. "SHINGO KIIIIIIICKU!" Guy may or may not hear the battle cry that preceeds his signature technique, but he would see Shingo leaping through the air with his leg looking to hook itself around the ninja's head and sending it face-first into the coldness of the snowy ground.

COMBATSYS: Guy dodges Shingo's Shingo Kick.

Guy              0/-------/-----==|===----\-------\0           Shingo

Hitting the unhittable is all well and good, but Guy is a ninja, and not just any ninja. He's a damn good ninja, a practiced brawler, and he's /quick./ With an attack as obvious as that one, it would practically be a crime for him /not/ to get out of the way. Shingo's foot meets nothing but empty air, as Guy leaps upward, backflipping onto a convenient tree-branch. He frown down at Shingo, wondering if that could be the young man's best. He hopes not, because he's here to fight, not to just beat on some chump. However, there's still plenty of time for Shingo to show his mettle, so the ninja won't jump to any conclusions.

In any case, there's still the matter of Shingo entering the space Guy occupied moments ago. Taking a step toward the base of the branch he's standing on, Guy kicks down twice, breaking through the branch with a loud crack, keeping up by virtue of grabbing onto another branch.

COMBATSYS: Shingo dodges Guy's Large Thrown Object.

A branch falling from overhead is a bit of a tricky thing. Mostly because Guy moves so fast to dodge the Shingo Kick up to the tree branches that the boy doesn't quite register where the ninja went till he hears the cracking of the branch. This causes Shingo to look up to eye the falling wood and take a step back to watch it harmlessly fall into the snow. He arches a brow at the piece of tree and to Guy clinging overhead like some sort of tail-less ninja monkey. The young man then just shrugs and promptly sticks his foot into the snow and with a hard jerking motion kicks the branch back up at Guy. Wide grin on his face, "You dropped something!"

Guy did, indeed, drop something. However, he has no interest in getting it back, especially not in the face or something. Kicking off the tree, Guy neatly bypasses the branch, evading it by mere inches. It's probably a good thing that worked.
There is still the matter of a falling ninja, however. A ninja falling more or less directly at Shingo, foot extended downward to land on him. Where? The head, naturally. However, shoulders are also acceptable. Really, anywhere Shingo is ok with Guy.

COMBATSYS: Shingo fails to counter Medium Kick from Guy with Tsuki Hiji.

Guy              0/-------/----===|======-\-------\0           Shingo

Getting his head stomped in like some sort of goomba is not something that Shingo is looking forward to. This would be why he takes a small hop back to make it so that Guy is aimed more toward his chest area than anything else. The plan is then to smack the ninja out of the air with a strategic strike and then kick him across the icy ground for good measure. That was the plan anyways. What he didn't take into account was -slipping- on a particularly slick patch of ice and loosing his balance to fall on his back. Leaving himself wide open for Guy to land on him.

"OOF!" Shingo exclaims with a sudden expulsion of breath. After getting Guy off him he rolls back up and takes a couple of deep breaths.

Feeling his foot sink down into an unexpected, although not unwelcome, spot, Guy can't help but frown harder. Shingo is quickly failing to impress - heck, Guy hasn't even so much as been hit yet. It's a bit of a let-down, but the fight isn't over yet. Guy doesn't plan on letting up until he's solidly won, just in case Shingo feels like an impressive, dramatic comeback.
Taking a few steps back, waiting for Shingo to get up, Guy doesn't wait long at all before kicking forward again, sticking an elbow forward, throwing his weight behind it. He's a quick, ninja missile now, aimed squarely at Shingo's gut.

COMBATSYS: Shingo blocks Guy's Medium Punch.

Guy              0/-------/----===|=======\-------\0           Shingo

It's not as though he's exactly thrilled about his performance himself either. This isn't quite like him at all. Not even against a speedy fighter such as Guy. Obviously there must be something nagging away at his subconscious or maybe Guy is just that awesome that he's untouchable. Shingo is more inclined to believe it is the former over the latter any day. Because if Guy was that awesome then the schoolboy wouldn't have been able to cover his midsection at the right moment to lessen the blow of the elbow striking there.

What comes next isn't exactly quick, but it's as fast as Shingo can muster with the poor grip his shoes get in the loose snow. "Doriyaaaaa!" He surges forward like a piston to grab a hold of Guy's garb and pull the ninja in as he bolts forward. The end result should feel like running into a wall to Guy.

COMBATSYS: Shingo successfully hits Guy with Hatsugane.

That's more like it. Even though he tries, Guy finds himself unable to escape from Shingo's grasp. For whatever reason, he's just a pinch too slow, and the impact with Shingo is meaty, to say the least. Knocked backward off his feet, Guy hits the snow and rolls, coming up on his knees slightly wet and covered in white.
Coming to his feet, he takes a couple of steps back, watching Shingo carefully. Now that the boy's shown he can actually hurt, it's time to take this fight somewhat more cautiously.

COMBATSYS: Guy focuses on his next action.

He finally hit Guy. It's about time, really. But still too early for any form of celebration on his part. It's going to be one heck of an upward battle he has to fight to even come close to turning this match around in his favour. He fully intends on making sure that happens. This is but the first step now that Guy knows he isn't just playing around and can dish out the pain.

And while Guy has become more cautious, Shingo has become more bold. Sort of. He's going to leave the American-born ninja to watching him as he sprints across the snow, kicking up frost in his wake, and simply looks to see how many times he can tag Guy with his fists. The Kusanagi-ryuu fighter grinning the entire time.

COMBATSYS: Shingo successfully hits Guy with Jab Punch.

Guy              1/-------/=======|=======\=------\1           Shingo

A unique aspect of Guy's fighting style, or maybe just his personality, is that he can go from cautious to kamikaze in the blink of an eye. For example, Guy makes no move to get out of Shingo's way, or even to fend off the plethora of tiny punches coming his way. He just steps forward, and takes them.
Just as he's about to inflict dread retribution, however, that darned snow turns traitorous. Guy's sneaker slips, and so does he, landing on his back in the snow. Unwilling to let up, even for a misfortunate occurance such as that, the ninja kicks out from his prone position, trying to take Shingo's legs out from under him.

COMBATSYS: Shingo fails to counter Medium Kick from Guy with Tsuki Hiji.

Guess what? It works. Today really must be an off day for Shingo, because seriously. To let something as simple as a leg swipe from on the ground catch him off-guard just as he was about to land on Guy with an elbow drop is sort of disappointing. His attack turned around against him as just as he lifts his elbow up to drop it on the shinobi he falls over from his legs being kicked out from under him; joining Guy in the snow.

Off day or not, Guy has no intention of letting up just because his attack against Shingo worked. Shingo is down, Guy is down, and the ninja figures that he can work with this. Twisting about, effectively creating a snow ninja, Guy drives his knee toward Shingo, attempting to use that as leverage to kick upward onto his feet once again.

COMBATSYS: Guy successfully hits Shingo with Light Kick.

Guy              1/------=/=======|=======\=====--\1           Shingo

Darn ninja. Think that they're all that with their swift moves and attacks but they're really not. Though appearances may state otherwise. Shingo once again finding himself an unwilling recepient of a knee strike from Guy. "Ung!" It's not really that hard but it's getting to the point where one good will practically knock him over. If he's got something hidden in his pockets to drastically turn this around, he better reach deep and pull it out now. Or else this fight is already over.

It might not be exactly reaching into his pockets but it is close enough for his purposes. Guy kicks back up onto his feet leaving Shingo to find a less flashy way of getting back to -his- feet. That would be rolling to the side and using his hands to push up. Guy may notice the slight movement in Shingo's hands as the boy scoops up a double handful of snow. Snow that is then combined and compacted together to be hurled across the distance right at Guy's head. He's got nothing else to lose so why not start throwing snowballs?

COMBATSYS: Guy overcomes Thrown Object from Shingo with Thrown Object.

This little strikes add up, you know. And in Guy's case, even little strikes can add up quite effectively, because let's be frank - he kicks hard. Landing neatly on his feet a short distance away, Guy folds his arms again, already preparing for a quick counter-attack from Shingo. Frankly, he's not expecting a snowball, but he's fast enough to deal with that anyway.
In any case, it's just snow, and Guy has a very simple, effective way of dealing with it. Whipping out one of the small throwing knives that are the friends of ninja everywhere, Guy quickly throws it straight forward, its path neatly intersecting the snowball's in a small, white explosion. However, steel is generally heavier than snow, and the kunai goes sailing on, right in Shingo's general direction.

COMBATSYS: Shingo negates Thrown Object from Guy with Thrown Object.

Guy              1/------=/=======|=======\=====--\1           Shingo

General direction is pretty accurate. Since there's always the possibility of Shingo going in any direction except for directly back or forward to ensure that the kunai blade is as far away from him as possible. What actually happens is that Shingo opts for thinking fast and using his feet, digs it under the snow to kick up a thick layer in the path of the object thrown at him. Because it is steel though, all the Japanese boy really accomplishes is altering the trajectory of the dagger-like weapon enough that it goes *thunk* into the tree right beside him. He grins at Guy and starts back weaving between the rest of the trees of the forest.

Suffice to say, the grin is not returned. Guy does not grin. Mirth is for those who are not taking a fight seriously enough - so far, it seems that's the category Shingo falls under. A proper fight is no grinning matter! It's a battle, a potentially life-or death struggle!
Trying as hard as he can to to telepathically force Shingo to take this more seriously, Guy just stands there, watching the Kusanagi-ryu sort-of disciple weave through the trees. Guy's not in the mood to go chasing him down.

COMBATSYS: Guy focuses on his next action.

Life or death struggle? Last time he checked there wasn't any Mortal Kombat involved in this worldwide league thing that's going on. It's just supposed to be the next big thing in the street-fighting world and a good way for accomplished fighters to earn some extra cash on the side of whatever else they do or if they're one of those full-time fighters that make a career out of this. In which case he supposes could be considered a life or death struggle since if they have no money they're not able to purchase food to eat. But then they could always go hunting or something. And Shingo is taking this seriously. He just doesn't take it as seriously as others. Fighting is also a sport, which means it can be enjoyed as well.

As for Guy not being in the mood to chase Shingo down? Well, there really isn't much for him to do but wait, right? But sure as rain if Shingo were to kidnap Cody's girlfriend then he can bet that Guy would be in the mood to chase him down then, huh? Not that would be happening any time soon.

And Shingo isn't running. He's just looking for an opportunity, that's all. All he really is doing is circling around Guy to find any potential exploitable weaknesses in the man's defense. When he thinks he spots one Shingo instantly explodes into action like dynamite. "Burning..." He bursts out from in between two trunks right at Guy with a fist held high ready to clock the man upside his head. Once he has the ninja disoriented by that initial punch he follows up with several more and a rising shoulder tackle to the jaw to hopefully hurl him into a nearby tree. Hard.

"SHINGOOOOOOOOO!"

[OOC] Guy says, "Hm..."

[OOC] Guy says, "Well, what the hell. Why not?"

COMBATSYS: Guy interrupts Burning Shingo from Shingo with Bushin Hassou Ken EX.

Weaknesses in Guy's defense aren't /that/ easy to find, honestly. He's cautiously watching, his sense honed by years of beating the crap out of street punks that really do try to kill him. That's what fighting's about - tournaments and such are a just a method of getting better at it.
As a side note, if Shingo kidnapped Jessica, then Guy, Cody, Haggar, and probably a few other people would punch him out of a skyscraper to his death. It's a good thing Shingo's too nice to do anything of the sort, RIGHT? Right.
Now, on to the action. Shingo's first strike hits home, hard, however...it has far less of a disorienting effect than Shingo might have been hoping for. No sooner has the blow been struck than Guy erupts upward, punching quickly and furiously, each carefully placed blow bringing both him and his opponent higher upward. Finally, at the apex of the jump-combo, Guy twists about and kicks Shingo away, square in the chest. Maybe into a nearby tree.

[OOC] Guy has to afk for a little while, back in 10-15.

This being a forested area and all, finding a nearby tree isn't exactly looking for ice inside a volcano. So once the shock of having his supreme ultimate technique stopped in mid-punch is overcome (thanks partially in assistance to being kicked through a multitude of branches and hitting the ground with a hard *THUD*) Shingo realises that this is it. All or nothing time. Being that he is one not to hold back on his best attacks, he's going to give it his all. Picking up and clutching a heavy tree branch on his hands he rushes in on Guy for one last ditch attack against the ninja. It will probably not be enough to make this match a double KO but at least it'll make him feel that much better for the poor showing in the beginning. Should Guy decide not to do his dodgy bit and take it like a man.

COMBATSYS: Shingo can no longer fight.

Guy makes no move to get out of the way, whatsoever. When Shingo's tree branch cracks over his head, Guy staggers back a step, but remains standing. Shaking his head to clear it, he looks down at his fallen opponent for a moment. Despite everything, Shingo did hit hard, if not particularly swiftly or often. It wasn't a bad fight, by any means. Guy certainly feels bettered by the experience. And a bit battered, too, truth be told.
Turning away from Shingo sharply, without a word, Guy walks away. He's done here.

Shingo sits down on his backside in a cross-legged position now that the fight is over. He's feeling a little tired from the match and figures that if he's going to wait around to catch his breath he might as well make some notes on Guy's fighting style and personality. Mainly for academic purposes should they meet again in single combat. "Hrm, this guy...note, note."
