Neo League 001 - #19: Tony vs Dan

Description: Tony and Dan fight a league fight, there's punches and kicks, and in the end everyone learns a little something about themselves. Isn't that nice? (Winner: Tony)

The Hibiki Dojo.
Certainly, there are other places to learn how to fight, other teachers that could be cajoled and teased and prodded into giving up the techniques and secrets to their arts. Certainly, there are countless talented individuals who practice a wide variety of kicks, punches, flailings, and chi-explosions large enough to level city blocks.
Only a small handful can claim that they've set foot in -the- Hibiki Dojo, and learned at the feet of the Master--Dan Hibiki. Dan, who was...you know, Master of Saikyo, the Strongest(!) Style. Therefore, it would only be a mild leap of logic to infer that Dan was the Strongest Master -EVER-. What business did a lowly Muay Thai fighter like Tony Styles have here? How could he even realistically challenge a Dan of such Danliness and expect anything other than total and complete ruination?!?
Well, nobody could tell for certain. It doesn't change the past, though--Tony made the official challenge, and the Muay Thai Panther was due for arrival any moment now. Either his challenge would be accepted, or...well, something else would have to happen. Maybe Tony would just go running around the block instead, or something. Who knows.
As it turns out, 'any moment now' was about four moments ago. If too much time is wasted going through the chaff, you miss the wheat. Stepping through the door and into the dojo proper, Tony was dressed for battle: White trunks with red and black lining, wrappings on both hands and feet...otherwise, the Muay Thai Panther was naked. One could easily surmise that the nakedness only bothered him to some mild degree--it is almost winter outside, but by virtue of Hardcore(tm) Tony persists.

The Hibiki Dojo.
It seemed like a good set of words to start out on, since that's where the fight was taking place. The fight where Dan Hibiki would regain his honor, from a previous defeat at the hands of a street thug. Not that he saw it as a defeat really, because quite frankly Dan Hibiki never loses, but still it hurt like a pound of bricks when the kickboxer fought him before.
Add to that the preferred style of one Tony, and Dan Hibiki is out to prove something in this fight. Kickboxers especially hold a certain place in Dan Hibiki's heart, right next to fuzzy bunnies talking and teenaged wizards. He's always wanted to use his feet and fists to defeat them all, and now he can start at the top of his list and work his way down.
Clad in his official asskicking attire, the Pink Gi of legend, Dan waits in the center of the Dojo as Tony walks in, already in his bastardized Ansatsuken stance, a stern look on his face. It's gametime. Good Luck Dan Hibiki. If you lose, you're out of the family.

"You're wearing your Gi," Tony noted, offering Dan a brief nod of acknowledgement. In all seriousness, while Dan might seem to be something of a...comedic sidenote in the world of professional fighting, he knew full well that the Saikyo progenitor could easily take advantage of any lapses in attention. This would be a perfect mental warmup for Tony--if he slipped, he would be beaten. Tony would've defeated himself. "I assume that means you accept, and you're ready. Good Luck and Good Fight."
Bringing his arms up into a middling guard, Tony is quick to close the distance between the two, weight shifting to the balls of his feet. Drawing himself to a sudden stop at kicking distance, Tony lifts a foot and drives it forward, looking to front-kick Dan's midsection and start the fight off with a 'bang' of sorts.

COMBATSYS: Dan endures Tony's Light Kick.

Dan Hibki smirks as he sees Tony jump in. This time he decides he's not going to lose through poor decisions like last time. With the kick coming towards his midsection, he tightens the muscles in his body, letting the kick collide with the solid Hibiki rock that he's become.
To say it doesn't hurt would be a lie, but he pushes the pain out of his mind, and brings his right fist forward in a horizontal sweep, trying to clock Tony quickly with the blade of his palm. "Y'SHAA!"

COMBATSYS: Dan successfully hits Tony with Quick Punch.

Pushing pain out of the mind. Now that would be a totally rockin' thought to hold onto. While Tony was aware of the fact that Dan was prepared for Tony's opening shot, the last thing he was expecting was to be knife-handed upside the head. Tony in turn braces himself for the inevitable--moving just a bit too quickly for him to comfortably handle it in any other way--and takes the shot.
Ow.
Head snapping at a perverse angle, Tony stumbles off to the side, briefly dazed by the suddenness of the blow, the unexpected level of 'oomph' behind it. That stung, without a doubt...
...but Tony wouldn't let it spell the end for him, not yet. Gritting his teeth, the return blow is something similar: Squaring himself back up with Dan, Tony stepped in and brought his left arm up and around with the hopes of sending his elbow squarely into the side of Dan's skull.

COMBATSYS: Dan blocks Tony's Medium Punch.

The speed at which the pink fabric moves is a little less than intense, but close enough for government work. Making a quick wooshing and swooshing noise, Dan Hibiki grins broadly as both of his slide up quickly to protect his head, while the head itself leans back with a twist of the Saikyo Master's spine.
An eyebrow quirks up on the calm face, "You're holding back. We've had this fight before. You're holding back."
While Dan Hibiki tries to get inside Tony's mind, his hands twist at the wrist, as he tries to grab the Kickboxer by the hand that just attacked, and give him a quick toss.

COMBATSYS: Dan successfully hits Tony with Quick Throw.

Caught by the offending Dan, Tony finds himself in a situation he wasn't entirely looking forward to: offguard and about two seconds away from hitting the grou--
"UNF!"
Over twohundred pounds of Tonymeats crash into the floor, doing what little he could to keep himself from taking the fall in even more painful fashion.
Tony was...behind, that much he was aware of. He'd have to work hard--and moreover, focus--in order to keep from panicking, from acting on his worst instincts. Edge, after all, might catch him in a similar situation.
Swinging his legs around so that he can get himself righted away, Tony brought himself up into a crouch before exploding forward and upward--looking to catch Dan under the chin with a rising knee.

COMBATSYS: Dan fails to interrupt Medium Kick from Tony with Kouryuken.

Dan decides to take a risk as he sees the knee rising towards him. This risk isn't a very good idea however, as he manages to bring his head underneath the knee when he corkscrews into position to release a mighty uppercut to the rising fighter.
THis of course makes Tony's attack even more powerful, because instead of just kneeing Dan in the Chin and launching him away, Dan's face is raked upwards by The knee to his forehead, followed by Tony's shin scrunching up his nose, and eventually ending with Tony's foot 'all up ons' his mouth.
Smooth Move, Dan Hibiki. I hope there was rhyme and reason to whatever you tried that for.

Tony could only hope for the same, really--it wouldn't do Tony much good if Dan didn't put his all into the fight, didn't give the Muay Thai Panther the fight he came here for. This was to see if -Tony- would make mistakes, after all, not Dan.
Still, Tony knew an opening when he saw it. Through a combined effort, Tony's foot was on Dan's face. Awesomeville. Rather than move the leg away and go for something else, Tony pushes forward and down in a stomping motion...looking to drive Dan's head into the floor, and quite possibly even beyond. Could Dannitude save him? Tune in next time...

COMBATSYS: Tony successfully hits Dan with Light Kick.

Luckily for Dan the floor is a bunch of soft padded mats. Unluckily for Dan, Tony's foot is not a soft padded mat at all. So he's stomped and it hurts. Quite a bit, in fact.
Rolling away from the foot, Dan brings himself back to his feet and points his finger at Tony, "Now that's what I like to see. You came in here reserved, but now you're putting your back into it! That's the spirit! COME ON, COME ON!"
He bounces back and forth on his heels, before giving a quick hop forwards, with his eyebrows down on the ridge of his bruised nose, and snaps his left hand back, before snapping it up quickly and releasing a cyan fireball from the palm, "GADOUKEN!" Dan Assault time!

COMBATSYS: Dan successfully hits Tony with Gadouken.

"Hrn!"
That's right, ladies and gentlemen. Hrn. Obviously, Tony is of Q heritage, if not the Super-Secret Inspector himself. Unfortunately, there's no real verbal followup to the grunt. There's a ball of notquiteahadouken coming at him, a ball which interested him far more than Dan's opinion on the fight. He was fighting his game, his way, and that's where Tony wanted to be. That's why he challenged Dan, after all.
Moving forward, one might assume that Tony's original plan was to ignore the fireball wholesale--walk through it, as it were, and continue assaulting Dan about the face and shoulder region. When the chiball impacts, however, it takes a bit more out of Tony than he could've forseen--much more than what he was prepared for, at any stretch. Sliding backwards a step, Tony's face set into a deep grimace of determination.
He wouldn't slow down. Not for kicks and punches, not for projectiles, not for anything short of being put on the ground for the duration. Driving forward, Tony's guard dropped just enough to allow him to reach forward, for Dan's head. Should the Muay Thai Panther's aim be true, what follows is both quick and brutal--interlocking his fingers at the top of Dan's neck, Tony pulls forward and down, securing a clinch. One-Two, his knees rise to strike Dan squarely in the face, hopefully drawing blood and submission from the Saikyo master.

COMBATSYS: Dan blocks Tony's Clinch Maneuvers.

Dan isn't a master for no reason whatsoever, as he spies the hand coming towards his head, it twists to the left, bringing his cheek into position for the knees, then tucks downwards, while the Saikyo shoulders pinch together, causing the knees of the Muay Thai fighter to collide with muscle and bones, as opposed to Dan's Moneymaker.
Finally he wrenches himself from Tony's grip, spinning his leg around for a quick roundhouse aimed at center-mass. He's need to step up his game a little bit soon to recover from that Kouryuken mistake. But not yet.

COMBATSYS: Tony blocks Dan's Light Kick.

Alas, that slippery Dan. So...slippery, and Danly to boot.
His attack meeting with a prepared defense, Tony's lips quirked at an odd angle, confused...but not frustrated, not yet. He was doing well, here. All he had to do was keep it up, and he'd walk away a victor. Stay alert, stay, focused.
Dan's roundhouse kick, aimed at the midsection like it was, was relatively easy to deal with: Dropping his guard by a couple of inches, Dan's foot met with Tony's hard and calloused forearms, capable of deflecting the mightiest of attacks without shattering like the bones of lesser men oftimes do. Pushing the offending foot away with those same forearms, Tony sought to accomplish a similar end--bringing his leg up to waist level, Tony whipped his leg around with the hopes of scoring a bruising hit.

COMBATSYS: Dan endures Tony's Light Kick.

Dan Hibiki let's the light kick come in against him, raising his arms up high in the air as if to free up where he's not guarding. And he's smiliing.
This fight is a lot different from the last one, and he seems to sense that, seeming to think that the thug may have given up his previous brawling ways.
He winces as the foot does indeed bruise him, but then the look of Saikyo Determination comes back onto his face, as he quickly corkscrews his body again, into a tighter ball then before, facing away from Tony for exactly 1/16th of a second. Then he unleashes his fury like a man....unleashing his VIOLENT SHINING DRAGON FIST with a wild cry of
"CORE YOUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU WRECKUHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!" Oh yeah. That's good Dan, Baby. That's good Dan.
If it hits, at least.

COMBATSYS: Tony fails to counter Kouryuu Rekka from Dan with Panther Ambush.

"PAN-THURR..."
If Dan faced away for exactly 1/16th of a second, then Tony crouched for exactly 1/32nd. Unfortunately, it's that exact 1/16th of a second discrepancy that makes all of the difference--not being able to synch up properly, or something. That, or it was moon gas. I dunno. Exploding forward, Tony's body more or less tails the knee which guides his human projectile...directly into the...Super Xtreme 2DMAXX Dragon Punch.
Suffice to say, that really freaking hurt. On top of that, dang, man. Just...dang.
Tortured(For lack of a better word) by the spinning and the hurting and the destruction, Tony crashes back into the ground someodd seconds later, a wreck of manflesh and bone and a partially open eyeball.

Soaring through the air as he is, Dan quickly shifts his momentum, and begins to bear down on Tony with ferocity. Something like that. Executing the moves that have made him sail across more skies than Charles Lindbergh, he starts sending out Aerial Roundhouses like they're going out of style. Three, if people are going to get technical about it. And all of them punctuated by words...
"Dan"
"Dan"
"KYAKU"
NAISU BAADI!

COMBATSYS: Tony counters Dankuu Kyaku from Dan with Panther Ambush.

"AMMMM-BUSSSSSSH!"
One moment, Tony is on the ground, looking suspiciously like a bump on the proverbial log. The next, he's in midair, shooting up like a bat out of hell and in the same formation as he was in mere moments ago. This time, however, there is a very important distinction to make--Tony's flying knee strike hit home. Was the earlier failure a gambit to open up this very opportunity? Or was it something more? Something Tony believed to strongly in that he was willing to sacrifice himself to a degree and just -go with it?-
Landing in a crouch, Tony watched his opponent with narrowed eyes, expectant. Dan had to be on his last legs, he just had to be after all of that.

As Dan tumbles through the air, he tucks his body into a ball, landing and rolling back towards Tony like a Saikyo Crack monkey. The thing about Saikyo is that even when the master is on his last legs he's not going to give anyone the satisfaction of seeing him admit it.
This fight though could possibly be very nearly over. As Dan pops to his feet, inches from Tony, his left hand snaps back and up again, sending another minidouken out, and the cry of "GADOUKEN" TO follow it.
He's probably dead. Probably. But he's not ready to admit defeat that easily.

COMBATSYS: Dan can no longer fight.

There it is. That's the money.
It was the look that he was hoping for--while Dan's eyes wouldn't betray it, his body told another story. Dan had all of the heart in the world, possibly even more than that--leeching from alien civilizations or something--but there's a reason why 'The mind is willing, but the flesh is weak' is an everlasting adage.
Even if he couldn't make Dan acknowledge his loss, that was more than enough for Tony. The rest was academic from here. Sidestepping the orb of chi, Tony starts in oncemore at Dan, bringing his leg high for another kick...but then falls short. The Dan is done...and Tony wasn't feeling particularly sadistic.
"Good fight," Tony acknowledged, giving the Saikyo master a nod. "And thanks. I...learned something about myself, here."

Dan's arms fall limply to his side, as the ball of energy zooms past Tony.
And although he's still standing, it seems that general muscle failure has taken him at all points. The unbearable strain on his face presently shows just how much effort it's taking to keep standing up and had Tony went through with his kick, he would have no choice but to take it and hurt like hell.
"...Well, at least you learned something, in the Dojo. I read your article in the paper. Good luck in the knife fight, and remember...
"A fighter isn't good because they have a weapon, a weapon is good because they have a fighter. Take that for what you will."
It seems Tony has beaten some sage advice out of Dan Hibiki.

That was, quite possibly, the absolute last thing he was expecting to hear from Dan...and it shows. Eyes wide in surprise, you might've thought he was just hit with some kind of surprise attack given his response, jaw slackening in amazement.
He was, perhaps, just too used to viewing the Japanese as being some kind of faceless demon over his shoulder...always demanding the absolute worst of him, regardless the cost that Tony might have to pay.
Here he was, though--in the Hibiki Dojo, no less, sharing a decent sentiment. "I'm hoping to prove that's the case, at least then and there. Thanks, Dan...have a good night."
Quite the turnaround from trying to beat 'insurance' money out of the Dojo owner, neh? Starting for the exit, Tony found himself fighting the urge to smile...an instinct that was beaten into him at an early age, something that plagued him up until this day.
Tony...let that particular fight go, and cracked a smile.

COMBATSYS: Tony has ended the fight here.
