Description: Zach Glenn and Robert Garcia throw down in Osaka for ranking adjustments before food.
Around much of Japan, Robert Garcia's flamboyant mode of dress usually stands out. A royal blue shirt, a black vest, and pristine white pants -- combined with his stylish goatee and distinctly European features, passersby simply assume he's a movie star. Or that they're about to be in a Tide ad.
While standing on the infamous Ebisu Bridge at just after sunset, though, he fits right in. Well-dressed men and daringly dressed ladies line both ends of the bridge, hoping to lure in singles for downtown Osaka's profitable bar scene. The cuisine capital of Japan makes a killing on weekends, and the stretch of restaurants and bars along the Dotonbori River brings in a huge portion of the bottom line.
Robert Garcia had come here out of interest in both wining and dining. The night is still young, and he hasn't quite made up his mind on what sort of food he would want to partake of. One of the many fine seafood restaurants? Or would he be in the mood for steak? He fishes out his lucky coin from a pocket, idly rolling it about his fingers as he steps through the line of handsome gentlemen, flashing a charming, if shallow, smile at the ladies before strolling past.
He'd love to stay and chat -- after he eats.
Once he's crossed the bridge and finds himself at the entrance of the Shinsaibashi Street shopping arcade, he flips his lucky coin into the air. Heads for steak, tails for seafood... A moment later, he catches the coin, slapping it onto his wrist.
"Steak it is, then..." murmurs the ponytailed Italian to himself.
And then he continues striding towards a local restaurant which has been pulling in rave reviews, completely heedless of the proximity alarm bleating plaintively on his Strolheim wristwatch. If it weren't so noisy here, maybe he'd think to look at it...
Shops line the streets on either side of him. Buildings tower above on his left, built up as a solid, impenetrable wall of commerce. And on his right, the string of riverside restaurants awaits, labeled with garish neon and halogen.
Zach was in Osaka for one reason, originally. The psion loves to eat. The man is famous, in a way, around here for having hit very nearly every dining establishment in Osaka. The food brought him here, but the alert that that stupid watch had been giving off kept him there.
Didn't take the hunter long to figure out the proximity detection feature of the trinket, and it did not take Zach long to figure out the tracker in further detail. Something to keep in mind in the future. Glenn tracked Robert Garcia down fairly quickly after that, and he arranged his path to appear in front of Garcia.
Hands at his sides, feet shoulder-width apart to display confidence. "Robert Garcia," Zach announces loudly. "I'm Zach Glenn," he says, displaying the watch on his bare wrist to announce his intentions. He's wearing his fighting threads from the end of King of Fighters: sneakers, black jeans, yellow-gold tee shirt under a black vest with gold stitching on the back in the form of a celtic knotwork circle.
"Care for a fight?"
There are people all around -- some walking at brisk pace, some walking at a more leisurely pace. One or two are already completely sloshed, despite the early dinnertime hour. But as Robert Garcia slows his pace, the others effortlessly reroute around the pair, providing them an island of sanctuary in the midst of a river of people.
Garcia strokes his goatee, sizing up the man who stands before him. White hair -- yellow t-shirt. And a watch, not unlike his.
Garcia raises the watch, as if he hadn't looked at it for hours. Sure enough -- it confirms the identity. And the name begins to ring a bell.
"... Zach Glenn, huh? Congratulations are in order, I understand! I gotta ask you though, how'd you manage to talk such gorgeous women into fightin' with you?"
Robert cracks a wide smile. Just small talk -- no dark ambitions, no leering monologue to go along with it -- just a simple notation that yes, he has heard of the Heirs to Legend.
There is a question to be answered, yet, though.
He flicks the coin into the air once again.
Slapping the coin, and placing it on his wrist, he looks down at the result.
A moment passes.
And then, sliding the coin back into his pocket, Garcia turns up with a smile to Zach. "Yeah, sure, I'm up for a throw-down. Maybe you'll help me work up a bigger appetite!" He glances left -- and glances right. The crowd won't bother him too much -- he's used to impromptu street fights as much as the next guy. Folks'll clear space as soon as they see what the men are capable of.
He settles into a combat stance -- his hands hanging loose, while he bobs nimbly upon the balls of his feet.
"Whenever yer' ready, boss!"

"Thank you, it was a long road," Zach says with the grace to look a little embarrassed, "Well, Honoka's my girlfriend, so that helps, and she's close with the other one." Zach's hesitant to name names; while Garcia is giving off a fairly close vibe, he knows nothing of the man other than he is in the tournament. And given what he knows of some of the other names, it does not speak well of the character of either of the two men present in this fight. Most of them are pretty bad folks.
Zach snaps into a ready stance, left hand extended in a slightly closed fist at shoulder level with his right near the shoulder. His feet are what Robert would recognize as the perfect spacing for quick movement or planting weight. A faint golden glow surrounds Zach, though all the lights and neon signs might make it difficult to see.
He takes a quick bounce in place before launching himself forward. As soon as the distance is closed, Zach throws out a right straight aimed at Robert's face. There is, apparently, more to the punch than just the psion's fist, as that golden energy seems to collect there!
COMBATSYS: Zach Glenn successfully hits Robert with Medium Strike.

"Well, what can I say? You're a lucky man!" And while Zach might not name the names, it's hard to keep secrets when your team's an international fighting sensation; the announcers tend to ruin some of the mystique. There's lots of thoughts that the purveyor of fine women certainly -could- say, and yet has the good graces not to. So he might not be one of the worse characters in this cast of martial arts masters!
As Zach eases into his fighting stance, Robert feels a bit more comfortable in his own. Passersby provide the fighters with a measure of space -- and some of the less-time-oriented travelers even step back, clasping their hands and making themselves comfortable to watch!
Those passersby are given a front row seat to see Robert take a psi-powered punch right to the face. Sure -- attempts were made to snap his gloved hands back up in defense, but they were just that, attempts. Robert staggers backwards a metter or so, his cheek already showing the start of an angry bruise. The pretty-boy Italian might not be so pretty in a few minutes. Even now, he's squinting his left eye shut as a means of dealing with the pain.
"Wow..." gasps Robert, his voice already starting to sound a bit ragged. "... I'd hate to see what you'd do if I insulted her!" He can't help but smile, all the same, as he drops his shoulders into a slightly lower stance. His right fist begins to glow, orange flames licking around him. The chi swirls into an orb of fire, and he starts to draw his fist back for a punch...
But when he leaps forward, the orb is dropped, rolling along his pant leg! He twists counter-clockwise into a kick, instead -- hurling it towards Zach at high speed!
COMBATSYS: Robert successfully hits Zach Glenn with Ryuugekiken.

Zach's eyes narrow. That technique... It's oddly familiar. Like he's seen it before, but he definitely cannot place it. The feeling is intense. Enough so that it prevents Zach from gaurding it properly. The chi ball slams high on the psion's chest, the pain of it staggering him back several steps.
"Oh," Zach says almost conversationally, "I'd probably let her handle the matter herself if she wanted to." Zach shrugs his shoulders back to test movement for a moment before watching Garcia carefully. He lets his body, and perhaps more importantly, his mind stay loose and flexible. Ready to adapt. Ready to react.
"I'm pretty sure she's stronger than I am at this point."
COMBATSYS: Zach Glenn enters a trance-like state.

Robert 0/-------/-======|=======\-------\1 Zach Glenn
Rather than slipping back into his prior stance, the Kyokugen Tiger slips into a mirror image of it -- right side leading, left side trailing. He flashes a toothy smile back at the psion, bobbing lightly upon the balls of his feet.
It seems that a comeback is waiting just at the tip of his tongue, but he shakes his head from side to side. "I'm not gonna lie, I had money riding on the Hungry Wolves. Full disclosure an' all." He flashes a wink -- and adds, "Everyone makes mistakes."
But as he notices Zach remaining back, relaxing... a chill runs down Robert's spine. He knows just how much that one solitary punch had dealt to him -- and he could easily see how much his own inner fire had dealt to the monster hunter. And with that in mind...
"Let's kick things up a notch, then, Glenn..."
Orange fire begins to ripple upwards, starting at the ground, and then rolling its way around him in a helical fashion. His ponytail, and the fabric of his shirt, are rippled upwards as if by a sudden sharp breeze. The chi manifests as an orange flame, threatening to consume Garcia whole.
COMBATSYS: Robert gathers his will.

"That is true," Zach says easily enough. "They were a strong team, and they gave an excellent fight." He sighs a bit as Robert starts to power up. He brings his right hand back, a sword forming out of that eerie golden energy Zach is known for. He grasps it lightly, before tossing it once into the air.
The weapon turns a full circle before he catches it by the hilt, the psion leaning back a bit before hurling the weapon in a whip-crack motion of his whole body. The weapon is blunt, but it is not a small weapon, and it is thrown with considerable force and speed. The weapons shape blurs into a disc as it flies towards Garcia.
COMBATSYS: Robert blocks Zach Glenn's Caladbolg.
[ \\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\ < > ////////////////////// ]
Robert 1/=======/=======|=======\==-----\1 Zach Glenn
Robert Garcia has seen this man fight before. The golden weapons have been most formidable in combat -- and, having recently sampled a taste of the energy itself, he has reasonable respect for the power of a weapon forged entirely out of the stuff.
Due to the peculiarities of his manner of drawing chi from the earth beneath, though, he is more than a little reluctant to just leap out of the way. For one thing -- he's fairly sure he won't be quick enough. And for another -- there are people behind him.
Gritting his teeth, he throws his hands in front of him. He may have been too slow for the last attack -- but for this one, his forearms are interposed in front of his face quickly enough to mitigate some of the damage.
Not to say it doesn't hurt.
Oh, no. He still grunts loud enough to cause a gaggle of college-age girls nearby to shriek in fear.
But the damage is all, in a sense -- in his own mind -- as the disc lights his arms' neurons on fire. His jaw sets firmly -- and it seems for a moment like every one of his muscles wants to pull shut at the same time, the golden energy blending in with his orange flames.
It only lasts an instant, though. And Robert draws in his breath.
When he exhales -- the Kyokugen Tiger is leaping forward through the air, his body fully alight with orange flame. His knee aims to crack across Zach's nose -- and then he would unhinge his leg to brand the laces of his fancy Italian shoes right across his cheek.
COMBATSYS: Zach Glenn interrupts Zetsu Ryuuko Ranbu from Robert with Soaring Dragon EX.
[ \\\\\\\\\\\\\\\ < > //////////////// ]
Robert 1/------=/=======|=======\=======\1 Zach Glenn
Kick after kick would follow thereafter, as Robert balances on his left leg, swinging one kick after another in an improbably powerful sequence of blows, each one amplified by an explosive burst of orange chi...
Zach eyes Robert carefully, and Robert starts his charge. Zach takes the knee to the face cleanly, swaying with the impact slightly as the first couple kicks land. Zach fights into a crouch before flaring soul power into his right fist.
"SOARING DRAGON!" Zach yells as he leaps, slamming that soul-powered fist into Robert's jaw even as Zach continues skyward for a moment. He lands in a heavy crouch, shuddering a bit as he catches his breath. He is already aware of it, but Robert's attack did /something/ to him. He knows, almost instinctively, that his body is not going to move like he wants it to for a bit.
He'll have to close this fight out quickly, before Robert can get too much of an advantage out of it.
In both the Dragon and the Tiger schools of Kyokugen, the Ryuuko Ranbu is an immensely powerful series of attacks, a blistering onslaught of attacks meant to batter the opponent down into a bloody pulp. Had it landed, Robert Garcia's chances of winning this impromptu challenge would have been practically assured. But perhaps Zach Glenn knew this too well -- as he was able to see the determined focus of the attack, and cut it off before the Kyokugen Tiger could bring his furious flurry of kicks into full speed. Regardless -- Robert now finds himself screaming in agony, his jaw nearly dislocated from the soulfire-driven impact of the Heir to Legend.
But Robert's determination is not a finite amount. He is not a person who can function in a vacuum -- his very strength comes not from within like his partner Ryo, but from without. As his opponents grow stronger, Robert Garcia's battle potential rises to meet them.
And as Zach flies into the air, Robert Garcia sails higher and higher.
That will change, though.
Robert's body is on fire -- blazing both with orange chi, and the residual afterglow of being pumped full of psychokinetic napalm. But the Kyokugen fighter has learned to not only cope with this pain, but harness it as well.
Robert rolls with the momentum of that punch; as his jaw flies in a clockwise fashion, so too shall his shoulders, and after a time, his hips.
And when his feet aim towards Zach, the Kyokugen fighter erupts into a new intensity of flame.
His rotation stops abruptly.
And Robert rockets towards Zach, foot-first, in complete defiance of his falling arc.
All his fiery chi is focused into his foot -- and should his foot contact Zach, the explosion of chi will be loud enough to draw the attention of everyone on Ebisu Bridge!
"HIEN SHIPPU RYUUUJIN KYAKU!"
But the kick would continue plowing forward, thundering Zach across the street for several meters.
And even then Robert wouldn't be done, until he leans back into a flipping kick, exploding with a semicircular arc of chi, scything upwards into the fallen monster hunter!
COMBATSYS: Robert successfully hits Zach Glenn with Hien Shippuu Ryuujin Kyaku EX.

Robert 0/-------/-------|>>>>>>>\>>>>>>>\2 Zach Glenn
Zach is, perhaps unsurprisingly, unsurprised by Robert's arrested momentum. As Gracia starts his dive, Zach regains his stance. He forms a flimsy barrier of psychic energy around him even as he tries to take up a decent guard position.
He's too late; Robert's kick slams into his chest sending him flying, then bouncing down the pavement of the street. He manages to control the tumble and land in a low crouch. His right fist is clenched, and oddly twisted inward as soul power starts to collect around it. It starts to spin and swirl as Zach regards Robert with a mix of wariness...
"My turn," Zach rasps as he launches himself toward Robert, the energy still spinning around that fist. He gets in close, planting his feet before launching a fierce corkscrew punch at Robert's chest! "HEARTBREAK SHOT!"
COMBATSYS: Robert dodges Zach Glenn's Dyrnwyn EX.
[ \\\\\\\\\\\\\\ < > ////////// ]
Robert 0/-------/----===|>>>>---\-------\0 Zach Glenn
As he flips back out from that kick, Robert is more alive than ever. Certainly, his body would want to lodge a complaint about the number of injuries he's sustained. And his jaw is probably in need of a medical examination -- to say nothing about that swelling bruise that's keeping him from seeing straight out of his left eye at the moment. But adrenaline can make that pain go away; Robert is surfing on cloud 9 at the moment.
His soles touch down on the asphalt -- and only then does his state of intense focus fade, allowing him to hear the roar of the crowd for the first time this fight. Bystanders are pumping their fists and shouting. Children are running around in circles and throwing kicks and punches of their own. Even diners in the nearby restaurants are mimicking the moves of both fighters in glee.
And Robert's (lopsided) smile is practically bright enough to outshine the moon.
Zach gets back to his feet -- and Robert paces backwards.
"Ready for ya," he calls back, angling his head in alert agreement.
And when Zach leans forward into that corkscrew punch, the orange flames flare up once again. The Kyokugen Tiger glows orange, as he backflips into a reverse cartwheel, his shoes passing by so close to Zach that both fighters ought to be able to feel the heat waves rippling from one another, so strong that the air ripples from the proximity.
His shoes touch down again -- and Robert's smile is just as bright as before.
And the moment he lands -- he leaps forward into a counterattack. The nascent master of Dragon-style Kyokugenryu soars into a rising uppercut, the line of his body slightly curved like a samurai's trusty katana -- and his flaming fist arcing upward into Zach Glenn's jaw!
COMBATSYS: Zach Glenn blocks Robert's Ryuuga EX.

Robert 0/-------/----===|>>>>>>>\-------\0 Zach Glenn
This time, Zach manages to get his guard in place, blocking Robert's version of the leaping uppercut and redirecting it up and away from his jaw. Zach grins as Robert is still in the air for a moment, taking that small space of time to draw in a single breath and digging into his own reserves a bit.
His right hand drops to his left hip much like a person reaching for a weapon... that simply is not there.
Then again, this is Zach. Weapons forged of pure willpower are kind of what he does these days. One such sword slashes into existence even as Zach slams the blunted weapon directly at Robert's flank before leaping away so quickly he may as well have teleported!
COMBATSYS: Robert can't buy an interrupt against Flashing Blade from Zach Glenn with Kuzuryuusen.
[ \\\\\\ < > ////// ]
Robert 0/-------/-======|===----\-------\0 Zach Glenn
Robert grits his teeth as his hand slips across Zach's guard, rising up and away from the jaw. By this point, he's far too committed with the attack to manage much of an evasion -- when his tank's out of gas, no amount of slamming on the pedal's going to make it go any faster. He decides to improvise -- whipping around in a quick circle as he tries to slam the back of his fist into Zach, with an intent to both shove him away and launch into a followup attack.
It doesn't -quite- work the way the Kyokugen Tiger wants it to. A soulfire blade tears into his abdomen as he twists, forcing his back muscles to convulse at the wrong moment, pulling his fist far short of actual impact with Zach! As he curls up reflexively and Zach spirits away, Robert is left to nail the landing for himself...
And, sadly, that just means he wipes out on a trash/recycling bin, sending bottles and cans flying in every direction.
Panting, he kips back to his feet -- though his battle stance is not quite what it was at the start of the fight. His shoulders sag as he bobs from one foot to the other -- determined to put on a good face for Kyokugen in both the World Warrior tournament and beyond!
Zach watches Robert warily, his breathing in harsh and ragged. "Y'know," Zach says after a moment. "I think the two of us could be friends. You seem like an alright guy." Zach circles Robert, taking deep breaths to get air in his lungs and his body a slightly longer moment to patch itself back together.
"You were talking about food after this," he says, "I'm thinkin' steak. You?"
COMBATSYS: Zach Glenn catches his breath.

(OOC: Edit in post)
Robert Garcia stands before Zach, panting -- his eyes wide with determination.
And Zach Glenn is talking about food.
Garcia's jaw pulls shut. His racing heartbeat is obvious in the fast pace of his breathing.
"Don't get ahead of yourself, Glenn."
He flashes a smirk.
And then he starts running towards Zach, hoping to close the distance fast.
The Kyokugen fighter leaps into a shallow dive, flaring with energy yet again. He spins around as he kicks, with his right foot spinning towards the psychic monster hunter's shoulder.
"HIEN! SENPUU KYAKU!"
If that hits -- and triggers an explosion of chi -- he'll reverse the spin, swinging his left shin into Zach for another outpouring of chi, refore reversing a second time into rolling kick!
The power of the final explosive shockwave ought to settle the score!
COMBATSYS: Zach Glenn blocks Robert's Hien Senpuu Kyaku EX.

"Can't help it," Zach says, "I'm hungry. Food's always better with company."
Then Garcia charges. Zach catches each of the kicks on raised forearms, grunting under each blast. He definitely feels it, /will/ definitely feel it in the morning.
"But you're right," he allows, steam rising from bruised and blistered arms. "Talk for later."
Zach launches himself towards Robert for what may well be the last volley. Zach's fought a good fight, but everyone has limits. Zach's approaching his.
The psion skids in close, perhaps uncomfortably so, to Robert. Soul power clads Zach's left fist as he throws a blistering three-quarters uppercut aimed at Robert's jaw!
COMBATSYS: Robert dodges Zach Glenn's Explosive Strike.
[ \\\\\\ < > //////// ]
Robert 0/-------/=======|======-\-------\0 Zach Glenn
Robert hops back after his kicks bash against Zach's solid defense -- and from the pace of his bobbing, he seems like he might have actually caught a second wind! "Fair enough...!"
The Kyokugen Tiger's light stance gives him the nimbleness he needs to hop to the side -- with Zach's explosive strike veering so close it almost clocks him right in the jaw a -second- time.
"Whoo!" he whistles, continuing to backpedal away from Zach. The Italian is glad he was quick enough to avoid -- but he, too, wants to put a decisive finish on this battle, particularly for the benefit of whoever is watching back in Strolheim! But with so much distance between himself and Zach, how could he hope to close the gap?
The answer lies in every master of the Kyokugen arts: the power is within himself. Orange fire burns at both of his palms, as he swings them alongside his waist. His ribcage swells as he draws in his breath.
And then the Kyokugen Tiger roars.
"HAOH -- SHO KO KEN!"
The fire rages -- swelling first into a bowling ball size. And then as Robert thrusts his palms into it, it becomes clear the orb is spinning rapidly.
He spreads his hands wide, flattening the spinning orb out into something more akin to a pancake. And in the process -- the disc folds in upon itself slightly, adopting a slight conic shape.
Oh, and it's also hurtling towards Zach at hellacious speeds. There's that. It's powerful enough to send him flying backwards a good dozen feet, if it hits.
One reason for the repositioning was to get him clear of Zach.
Another reason was to make sure he had a clear line-of-sight to the Dotonbori River.
Just in case this attack misses -- it would need another second or two to disperse.
COMBATSYS: Zach Glenn slows Haohshokoken from Robert with Quick Shot.

COMBATSYS: Zach Glenn can no longer fight.

Zach snarls a little as Robert dodges his Sunday Punch. His astride stance leaves him a bit exposed, and Robert intends to make Zach pay for the over-extension. The blast comes in. Zach leans back, attempting to buy just a little more distance.
He forges his third weapon of the fight, a knife that is just shy of being large enough to be called a sword, which slams into the blast with thunderous impact.
Robert's attack proves the stronger, slamming into Zach's chest before throwing him to the streets. The psion lays there, gasping for air and not getting up. His shirt is gone, burned away by the fires of the technique. His chest is a mess of light burns and blisters. The vest somehow survived, perhaps due to better construction or materials.
Either way, Zach is down and staying down. The crowd goes nuts, and is silenced by a loud gurgling, growling sound from Zach's stomach.
The Haoh Sho Ko Ken certainly packs a punch -- it's powerful enough to knock the psion down, but the spin of the energies is not enough to sustain the disc for much further than that. People scatter -- but by the time they have the opportunity to run, the dissipated attack no longer poses much of a threat.
Robert grins -- he certainly has to give Zach credit for trying to pierce through the center of his attack.
"That took guts, Glenn -- good on ya!"
The Kyokugen Tiger sucks air through his teeth as he looks at Zach's current state of dress. "... You were sayin' somethin' about steak, yeah?"
Robert plants his palm on his chin, and with a small grunt of exertion, he pops his jaw back into its proper position. Blinking rapidly, he breathes out, nodding with satisfaction.
He walks over to Zach, offering him a hand up. "... Yeah, I'm up for it. I got a place in mind if you don't, but we're gonna have to do something about that shirt."
Robert -would- prefer to eat with another lady. But considering the bruise on his cheek -- to say nothing of the searing pain he can still feel all throughout his upper body... well. Dinner is probably a higher priority at the moment. And there's no way he's gonna get caught letting a guy pay for his meal -- whether he won the fight or otherwise!
COMBATSYS: Robert takes no action.
