Unholy Genesis - [UG:Round 2] ON THE WINGS OF ANGELS

Description: In an attempt to zero in on what's going on, RYU HAYABUSA has entered himself into the tournament -- and it turns out that the next experiment is not human at all. These creatures are genetic aberrations -- easily a half dozen of these horribly oversized dragonflies will be flying through the slums, each one easily the size of a passenger car. So Ryu Hayabusa won't be the only one flying today, as DYRE and EUNHA find themselves leaping from the back of one dragonfly to the other to catch the ninja for a slice of the Majigen Series prize -- whatever form that takes! (w: Ryu Hayadiddy)

Metro City... or more accurately Majigen.

The Singular Super Ninja, Ryu Hayabusa has been continuing his efforts to find a way to purge the human world of the fiendish intrusion that has covered a great many city blocks, trapping ordinary humans in a realm ill-suited to them and creating an inordinate amount of conflict between Human and Darkstalker with bloodshed on both sides.

At the very least there is some luck. Among fiends, Ryu Hayabusa's name is a whispered threat; stories of the Dragon Ninja slaying hundreds of fiends with the single slash of his blade. His mere presence is enough to send most fiends running from any conflict, rather than risk having to face the Dragon Sword.

More unfortunate luck: this makes it rather difficult to gather information. It doesn't take long after his arrival in a part of the city for the Darkstalkers to go underground... those that are interested in more than just mindless violence at the very least. A few ambushes, a few questions, and so few answers.

And thus the decision to "play ball," as it were. Hayabusa has placed his name in the official tournament with the hope that he might be able to obtain knowledge from those who hunt him down to obtain the reward a big name like Ryu Hayabusa promises. This still requires more waiting, leaving the ninja to his own devices as he waits for a hook on his lines.

The Metro City Slums were never a nice place to begin with, filled with filth and violence that routinely spilled forth into the city proper with Mad Gear's help. Now in Majigen, the river literally runs red with blood and the streets reek of death and decay.

Through it all, a strange buzzing fills the air: the sound of a squadron of car-sized dragonflies crosses the grid-like city streets in formation, seemingly oblivious to the broken world beneath them. Perched high up on one of the tallest buildings in this part of the city stands Ryu Hayabusa, his arms folded across his chest as he watches the approaching insects keenly.

Ulf was enjoying himself in Majigen. Dyre less so. Sure this twisted land had its upsides, a lack of law was one of them, and the constant stench of blood wasn't all that bad either. But he was starting to miss the creature comforts. And creature comforts did not include oversized dragonflies. Too large and too obvious, but at least it was convenient getting around this way rather than trying to get by on the ground.

Money, however, was something both Ulf and Dyre could agree upon. Both were more than happy to accept prize money, if the insane beings they kept encountering in this land weren't so.. strong. It made him miss the old underground circuit, sometimes it was nice to just pummel something into paste.

Dyre is the one riding into battle this time. Though at a quick glance it was nearly impossible to tell which of the two it was at any given moment. Indeed, Ulf is riding close to the surface, eager for the battle that would hopefully begin sooner rather than later. Dyre's mouth is twisted into a sour grimace as he looks ahead, something obviously not to his liking, though no one but him knows its the words being shouted inside his own skull that were annoying him. He wasn't pleased with the way this match was set up, and in fact he was worried Ulf might actually try something regarding his partner for the match. That one did not like that woman.

Finally he spots the man ahead, narrowing his eyes slightly against the wind. "I guess that's the one.."

In a very real sense, Eunha Sin is doing her job now.

Is she destroying the invaders? No. She probably can't, though she could probably make a good try.

Is she banishing them back to Hell? Again, no. It's unclear what the legal status of Hell is, because while people have sued God in the past, proof of his engagement has been hard to come by. Ditto Satan - who isn't even held to be omnipresent.

No. Eunha Sin is here, because this tournament is taking place in Metro City... and /by God/, they're going to follow the rules. Hilariously enough, Eunha has not identified any severe violations which are directly related to the branch she's in (though she has seen a HELL of a lot more, which are going to get passed up the chain if the city does not cease to exist or get nuked by B-Rock the Islamic Shock).

Not even the presence of 'that man' is illegal.

Standing astride a flying insect, Eunha's hair whips behind her, a few strands loose from a bun. She's wearing a police-blue set of fighting clothes instead of her uniform today, complete with helpful advertising for the MCPAL on the back. "Hnh," she answers Dyre, gazing past him towards Hayabusa.

"So it is. Maybe he'll try to sell us a swimsuit," Eunha says, impassively. "You ready?"

Something in the air smells. Not the usual kind of smell. Eunha's eyes narrow as her nose twitches, once.

The approach.

It's instantly apparent to Ryu Hayabusa that these insects do no merely bring with them noise pollution, eyes like a falcon hone in on the figures straddling the giant, winged backs of these unnatural creatures. It would be somewhat inaccurate to say that the ninja is disappointed when neither appears to carry any fiendish characteristics. This isn't what he'd been hoping for, but it is essential not to allow yourself to expect too much.

The dragonflies' path carries the riders up toward his position atop the building, where he stands still as a gargoyle, clad in the Legendary Black Falcon that many have come to associate with a bloody end for those who dare to threaten the peace of this world through inhuman means. Across his back, the even more legendary Dragon Sword, a masterpiece of unrivalled power that is allowed to remain incomplete lest it threaten the balance of the world.

The battlefield is set, his opponents have made themselves known, it's time to enter the fray.

Without hesitation, Hayabusa launches himself forward off the side of the building, his arms and legs spread wide as he suddenly begins to glide down toward the insectile squadron as if carried on invisible wings. He lands, crouched, on the forward most dragonfly and slowly raises his eyes, the silent stare of Hayabusa locked on those who stand before him.

"Wasn't talking to you.." Dyre looks sideways at Eunha. He's still keeping up that act, if it even is an act. Still no bluetooth or any obvious communication device on him, he just talks to himself, constantly.

A slight grin spreads across his face as their opponent takes a flying leap off of the building to land in front of them. Ninja. He's never gotten to fight a ninja before. The teenage boy inside of him gets a bit giddy for a moment, at least until the other thing inside of him tamps down on that emotion quicker than you can say 'boo.' His eyes flash red for the briefest flicker of a moment, almost too fast to catch. Maybe his grey eyes just reflected the blood all around them for a moment. Yeah, that's probably it.

He cracks his knuckles, twisting his head slightly to stretch his neck. He shoves his hands into the gauntlets hanging from his belt, the metal creaking slightly as it settles on his fists. No prefight banter from him. Waste of breath. Instead he launches himself right into his favorite tactic, a headlong assault right off the bat. He pounds along the back of the dragonfly monster, jumping once he reaches the head, bounding across the chasm towards the one ridden by Ryu.

His fist is already pulled back as he telegraphs a way too obvious punch. A punch meant to miss, and meant to cover up the much more skilled kidney shot that comes from his other fist.

"Okay," Eunha says in her Conflict De-Escalation Voice. This required multiple classes to learn, and she does not like that she has to use it. Either way, the young face of ninjutsu arrives, and Eunha glares at him.

His sword... a blade style, Eunha thinks. Interesting. She is about to make a suggestion to Dyre when he lunges forwards, and she takes in a deep breath - which is unfortunately slightly tingly - before lunging forwards, leaping over the gaps between the dragonflies.

Not quite into the one Dyre's on, though. THERE, Eunha lingers, watching how Hayabusa moves. There might be an opening there. A critical gap into which she can insert her foot.

There is something to be said for a ninja, and something that should be immediately apparent to anyone who is aware of their presence in pop culture: They are incredibly agile and difficult to pin down.

With that said of the commmon ninja, the fact that Ryu Hayabusa is a Master Ninja would suggest he is all the more of a challenge. It becomes quickly apparent that a heavily telegraphed attack would be avoided, but for Hayabusa, that involves twisting out of the way, and then simply continuing along his path as the second punch comes through, grazing past his side close enough that Dyre can feel the texture of the modern ninja's attire.

Another thing to be said for a ninja is that they tend to be silent, moving through the shadows and dispatching their opponents without word, unnoticed in the night. While Hayabusa would be more than capable of such a feat, the fact that he is able to so casually make use of techniques meant to be used while backs are turned despite eyes being firmly locked on him should help explain his reputation.

As for the sword on his back? It goes unclasped as he instead makes use of farm more simple fighting techniques. Hayabusa lashes out at his first opponent, a trio of punches come out lightning fast, aimed for hip, just under the ball of the shoulder, and then for the jaw, clear attempts to throw off balance before he draws his right arm back, locks in position for the faintest of pauses, then thrusts his fist forward with enough force to send a man flying.

Ninja versus Cop and Mercenary. It's like the plot of some weird Hollywood movie. Die Hard with a Ninja or something like that. That's at least the thoughts passing through Dyre's head as he watches his swing narrowly miss his opponent. Of course, knowing a ninja that might have been a major miss with his opponent moving only just enough to get out of the way.

Working in the underworld, you get to meet all sorts of criminals, back stabbers, hitmen and murderers. Ninja creepiness just doesn't bother the gauntleted one all that much.

His eyes see the attacks coming, and his response? A grin. He smiles as he takes the punches without even seeming to bother. Though with two skilled fighters they'd see him turning just enough to keep the hits from connecting to anything too painful. But to the untrained eye, he looks like a psycho who willingly took the blows.

At the moment the last punch connects, he suddenly explodes with silver light, sending it in a shot gun blast of uncontrolled energy right in front of him. Worse, the energy feels like anger. Energy shouldn't feel like emotion, but this does.

He still goes flying a short distance from the punch, his own energy blast giving him a little lift. He comes down on the dragonfly's tail with a deep and highly amused sounding laugh. "This will be good."

Silence reigns. Well, other than the sounds of battle. As Ryu Hayabusa lunges in to strike against Dyre, Eunha watches him absorb the blows without much harm. That's encouraging...?

She did manage to disable him, she tells herself. Whatever weird blue meth or whatever he's on, well, that's an offense for a different day. Taking a deep breath, her eyes widen slightly as she steps forwards, hopping across and lightly walking across the impossible wings of the dragonfly as it circles.

What are these things? She can't really tell. They should be impossible. Right? No. Focus. Focus on kicking a ninja.

Eunha steps forwards and kicks Ryu.

... Of course it's not that simple. WHAT IS? She instead snaps out three swift kicks aimed at the kidney/giblets zone, which is conventionally called the 'abdomen' by those who traditionally approach it from the front. Ruthless and not very nice, but between the situation and this weird exhiliration she's feeling, she can make peace with herself.

"So, what's your mission here?" she asks Ryu as she stomps down, briefly wobbling the dragonfly and dislodging more of that weird powder. "Or is that a secret?"

And then, with a flash of movemen, the Dragon Sword is drawn from its sheath. Held in unusually high stance, he twists the blade downward as he faces only his side toward Dyre. The flat of the blade is shown just as that surge of power is fired directly at him, allowing little more than a few pieces of "scattershot" power to clip him.

With a flash of motion, he just as quickly begins to maneuver out of Eunha's path, the trailing wind of each kick gracing his stomach, leaving behind little more than whispers immediately caught by the gusting wind of this great height, left to be forgotten.

"It's my duty to protect Earth from the threats of fiends. Majigen is unnatural, I must dispatch the Archfiend Jedah and restore Metro City to order. If you value this city more than money, I recommend you abandon your hunt for me." His words are clear and precise, the sort of words that are used to being obeyed not by virtue of status, but by virtue of truth.

With the possibility that he may be able to convince Eunha that his interests are best for her, Hayabusa returns his attention to the less stable opponent. It doesn't take a keen falcon's eye to realize that this violence is what concerns Dyre, not the fate of this city. The ninja clenches the hilt of his blade and it is suddenly sheathed in flame. In a surge of motion, he twists the blade low, flames licking at the back of the monstrous dragonfly, seemingly leaving it unharmed, before he lashes upward, seeming intent on cleaving a slash across Dyre's chest. The flames of chi, they burn but do not sear.

Indeed, it's not hard to tell Dyre is completely disinterested in the whole money versus city dichotemy. He's perfectly happy to watch this city burn if it means a few extra zeroes in his bank account. But perhaps the next words are a bit more strange. "What can I say, money talks. Hell you could pay me and I'd help you. I'm not picky about where the contracts come from." He stands upright, though the smile on his face isn't as unhinged as one might expect. He's serious in the offer at least. "I'm stuck here same as everyone else. Just making the best of it."

So many words in one go, but his eyes never move from his opponent. Only an idiot would think he let down his guard completely. So when the sword comes in his direction, it's with the screech of metal on metal, sparks kicking off the back of his gauntlet as the blade scrapes against them to join the chi flames. Then he's in and under the sword, his other gauntlet swirling with more of that silver energy, aiming right for the ninja's mid section.

As he thrusts forward with the strike, the silver energy suddenly turns a brilliant crimson, his eyes suddenly shifting color from grey to red in mimickry of his attack.

"He talks to much." Even his voice is different, this one lower and more gruff, almost a rough growling quality to it.

The words that Ryu says are smooth and well timed. Resonant. Simple. To the point. Direct.

Perhaps too much so.

Her lip curls. "Well that's /practiced/. Got any more emotional chains to pull, Ninja Boy?" For in Metro City, when someone's lines are /too/ smooth... it's a trigger. Also, she's being filled with drugs without meaning to be.

Of course Dyre is still the main target of his ire. That's good enough.

Of course, on the other hand, he also ERUPTS IN FLAMES. "Jesus!" Eunha exclaims as Ryu Hayabusa surges ahead and smashes at Dyre, even as he blocks with his gauntlets. Sparks fly. They're pretty. Eunha pushes her glasses up her nose.

She then whirls around to kick into Hayabusa's side even as his weapon clashes. Heel first, she says, "If you're not just telling pretty lies, prove it with your skill!"

It seems that despite his honest response, and the importance of his mission, Eunha simply won't believe the honest truth about Hayabusa's intentions.

Disappointing.

Change or not, Hayabusa is quick to act as Dyre once more comes flying at him. The ninja is used to fighting multiple enemies at once, one of them simply seeming to hold to souls within his own body isn't enough to throw him completely off. Again he gracefully twists aside, leaving the mercenaries attack nothing but air to strike.

The kick on the other hand, is a bit too much. There's only so much time to maneuver, so much room on top of this one dragon fly. His blade comes up again as he imposes the flat of it between Eunha and himself, absorbing much of the intended force.

If nobody will listen, then Hayabusa must simply return to his previous plan of defeating his opponents... however under the circumstances it would seem to be a good time to catch some breathing room. Breathing room might also help with this strange pollen falling from the wings of the dragonflies as well.

A seemingly effortless leap carries him up into the sky, high above the dragonflies, as he twists around, snatching a single kunai from the sheathes along his leg and pitching it down at the law officer. Even with his attention divided, it appears that his path would land him on the back of one of the trailing insects.

This version of Dyre, this one has a grin that is most certainly completely unhinged. Crimson eyes keeping a sharp lock on the ninja as he takes deep breaths of the air. "Ah.. that's why." He let's out a wicked sounding laugh as he curls his fingers to make use of the claw tips on his gauntlets. This version also likes blood.

Though to think that either of them aren't up to date on actually using tactics in a battle is also a bad mistake to make. As he slowly starts to shift to the side, his movements slow and languid for a moment. Trying to position himself on the opposite side of the ninja from the policewoman. Pincer attacks may be nothing new, but they remain popular because they work.

Then he's off, zipping forward again, running low to the ground, using his hands to help propel him forward in an almost too animalistic manner.

Pupils dialate as he lets out a shout of rage, crimson energy coursing along the gauntlet's claws. He digs one gauntlet into the chitin shell of the dragonfly, causing him to stop short, lashing out with his other hand right at Ryu's thigh. Then with a hyena like cackle he launches himself in the other direction in an effort to put some distance between him and any reprisals.

Eunha throws up her arm on reflex as a thing is thrown to her. At her, rather. She grins up at Ryu.

The grin fades as the kunai goes through her arm.

Her expression tightens up. Color leaves her face. Her hand still feels fine, she can flex her fingers - the kunai's thin precision seems to have avoided any major arteries. She feels a sort of hot tingling where she might feel agony. Looking downwards she forces out a breath, saying as she does, "Well. Heh heh. You don't fuck around, do you."

And in a strange way, this builds her respect for him.

Not to the point where she refrains from pulling out the kunai and flinging it back at him (which is exactly what she does, with a squirt of COP BLOOD onto the back of a dragonfly).

But it helps!

Room to breathe, room to reorganize, room to prepare. There are a great many benefits to refusing to hold still in a single point of the battlefield, especially when you're outnumbered. Taking control of the situation is absolutely vital, and the ability to do that is one of the reasons why Ryu Hayabusa is a legend despite his relative youth.

Another important bit of advice on the battlefield: don't attempt to use your opponent's weapon against them unless you know what you're doing, a true master of the fighting arts knows not just how to inflict pain with their tools, but also how to properly defend against them.

Dyre launches into the air, but the flight of the sharp kunai is all the quicker. It reaches the dragonfly just as the mercenary is landing, only to be met by the Dragon Sword. With a quick slash, the kunai is kicked back, twirling in the air as it bounces back to catch Dyre in the face with the blunt end. Not enough to do serious damage, but plenty to provide a distraction, all the while the sword continues on an upward path back into its sheath.

By the time the mercenary swipes at the ninja's legs, Hayabusa is ready, kicking aside the strike, leaving it no purchase as it sets Dyre spinning about his imbedded claw. An elbow strike flies down to force Dyre to his knees before Hayabusa's sole impacts the back of the dual-minded man's head, planting him flat against the dragonfly's spine.

Somehow in all of that, the ninja also managed to catch hold of his kunai, spinning it briefly on his finger before using the motion to return it to its spot on his thigh.

There's a short growl that comes from Dyre as first the kunai impacts with his face, then a pair of strikes from the ninja himself. The mercenary doesn't move from where he lays, pressed against the back of the dragonfly. Perhaps it's the spores, or perhaps its the fact the his bloodlust is riding another high in its steady ebb and flow, but whatever it is he starts laughing.

It's not the laugh of a man completely in his right mind. There are two souls inside Dyre, and this is clearly the more imbalanced of the two, it's no real stretch of the imagination to figure that one out.

Even though his attack missed, his claws are still glowing with crimson energy, and by the moment it's glowing brighter, spreading up his arms as his claws dig into the thick carapace beneath him.

Then.. the explosion, a brilliant burst of scarlet all around him. The energy even seems to be tearing at his own flesh, injuring him even as he seeks to sear the ninja with raw psychic energy, a deep keening wail that is felt as much in the mind as in the body.

Eunha silently acknowledges Ryu's prowess by bleeding. Some of the droplets will take some time falling.

Her lips purse. She is caught in the middle of this struggle. It is not a struggle that makes fundamental sense to her. She is also now really starting to hurt from that nice hole in the personal meats of her arm.

(She actually would either be screaming, or trying not to scream real hard, if it wasn't for the fragrance in the air.)

"Hnf." Her own distaste for the delinquent does not match Dyre's bloodlust. Turning, she leaps to another dragonfly, and from there probably another.

Huh, she thinks further: That's a long way down.

Problematic. There's barely any room to move on top of these dragonflies, as large as they may be, so filling as much space as absolutely possible with psychic energy is an incredibly strong strategy.

Perhaps he could have attempted to leap to another dragonfly, or knocked the mercenary off with as much force as possible before he'd managed to build up all of that power, but instead he opts for protection. His legs lock out toward either side in a bracing stance as and with rapid handsigns summoning forth ancient ninpo, he is like rock.

Even rock is not wholey immune to the psychic scream that rattles through the ninja's mind. It is sheer strength of soul that allows the ninja to merely suffer through this agony that wracks him. It tears at his very soul like the claws of a ravenous beast, nipping at the heels of a franticly fleeing explorer.

And yet, somehow, he weathers through it. There is no follow up from the mercenaries apparently temporary partner. Perhaps he'd managed to get his intentions through even the clouded haze of the invigorating spores.

That leaves only one foe for the time being.

For a moment he draws back, summoning all of his strength about him, then he lunges forward into a sudden uppercut to launch Dyre into the air, following up as he flips into a mid-air somersault kick. As it leaves the mercenary hanging in open space, the ninja returns to his footing, hands clasped to his side as he summons a swirling ball of blue and black chi in an instance, thrusting it outward at the falling foe with enough force to send him rocketing backwards, possibly even clear of the dragonfly squadron and into one of the buildings along the side of this city route.

Poor Dyre. If he had the chance, he'd be spitting out a few choice words at his so called partner right now. As it was, he was much too concerned with the ninja's counter attacks. That'll teach him to rely on anyone other than the other half of himself.

He's like a rag doll as he goes sailing across the distance between the dragonfly he was riding on and one of the many buildings lining the road. Glass shatters as he goes right through a window, getting cut up, though the damage from that is hardly anything compared to what the ninja inflicted on him. With any luck (of which he's had precious little) he'll end up in a room where he can recouperate for a few days. Bad luck (which is much more likely) locusts or spiders will find him. Either way, the mercenary is out of the fight.

The violent one has been sent flying, however Hayabusa is not one to so easily assume that an opponent can't make it back into the fray simply because he's theoretically out of reach. It's not until the building that the dual-minded mercenary ended up in is long since past that the Master Ninja adjusts his attention back toward the law enforcer.

With a sudden, single leap he crosses the open space between him and Eunha, his posture as unthreatening as a man of Hayabusa's nature can manage while still prepared for battle. He is like the center of a typhoon, utter peace and calm wrapped with inexorable violence.

"I promise you my intentions are to restore this city, to remove this dark veil that shrouds it from the rest of the world. If your intentions align with my own, I have no desire to see further harm come to you."
