IHST - Inter-High School Tournament: Brett vs. Himeko

Description: Gorin and Taiyo clash in the Inter-High tournament, as Brett comes face to face with the might and power of Hurricane Hime! Will the Hockey Star weather the storm, or will the Saikyo Superhero put him on ice? (Winner: Brett)

Times may be a little confusing for the schools of Japan, but things are also getting incredibly exciting! Once buzz of the Southtown Inter-High Tournament was underway, a lot of drama fell low, while others are starting to rise. Well, let's face it, the whole 'School Pride' thing isn't really anything new, but it's shining bright this time around a little brighter than ususal.

The current match-up is taking place in the front of Taiyo's main entrance doors, and it seems someone's done the honor of not really cleaning up the area first- there's all sorts of discarded sports equipment such as sandbags, medicine balls, and traing dummies; wooden crates of various sizes stuffed with christmas decorations, and several bare pine trees. Hmn, maybe the trash guys haven't arrived yet? A respectable crowd of students are around to check out the action, one of course being Taiyo's own Himeko Kashiwagi; whom many didn't know the girl was even into martial arts of any sort! She's dressed as a superhero of some sort with a pink tunic and eyemask with flashy boot and gloves, not to mention the symbol of a hurricane upon the chest. The reception of her look is pretty mixed, but she's the Prom Queen and they're going to have to deal with it!

She's seated cross legged along the wide, gravel walkway, eyes closed tight and arms crossed; quite possibly rooted in deep meditation. The young heroine knows -of- Brett, but she actually hasn't analyzed any of his past fights- She sure hopes that isn't going to return to bite her in the butt!

School pride certainly is a thing. Even if Brett Neuer hasn't been at Gorin for too long compared to others, circumstances have definitely given him reason to try and stand up to the plate for his soon-to-be alma mater. After all, seeing other schools trying to undermine the good nature of the school's presence and student body tends to have that effect. And with his friendship with a certain volleyball star, he's learned of quite a bit to make him dedicated to the good name of Gorin.

Of course, his first fight really doesn't take that much into account. After all, Taiyo and Gorin don't have that much of a rivalry, outside of maybe the various sports fields, and even then, nowhere near as bad as some of the schools. That doesn't keep several Gorin students, in their recognizable uniform white polo shirts, from standing in the crowd to support their fellow student. It's a bit of pressure on Brett, actually, feeling a rather uncomfortable lump in his stomach as he rolls into the area 'cleared' (for whatever operative definition of 'cleared' there is considering the junk around) for the fight, the hockey star looks over toward his opponent, rather...confused about her appearance.

That doesn't keep him from being polite (to a fault almost), a nod toward the meditating super-heroine that approaches a near bow. "G-Good luck, Kashiwagi-san," Brett offers, making sure to use the polite japanese way of address, something he's still been working on lately. Gripping at his hockey stick carefully with a padded gloved hand, the other makes sure his helmet is nice and secure, and hls in-line wheels are nice and loose enough for the fight.

"Mmmnn... MMmMMMmmmnn..." Himeko tilts her head from one side to the other. Brett isn't the only one confused by the girl's actions, the general feeling at the moment is uncertainty. Did she fall asleep? Is she in some sort of deep meditative state? What's even going on?

When all of a sudden her eyes open, "LUCK??" she yells at the top of her lungs, "It seems you have confused me for someone who needs luck in their battles but I assure you, Brett Neuer, that is most certainly not the case! HUP!" she drops onto her back, followed by a kip-up to her feet as she points to herself with her thumb with a wide grin, "You seem to be a little confused so allow me to tell you my name!"

"I am she who does not allow illiteracy!" her arms cross into an x in front of her, "The sexy bookgirl who's style of choice is the mythical saikyo-ryu martial arts! Champion of Justice!" the girl drops to a crouch followed by a leaping backflip and a final, dramatic pose standing on one foot and her arms held out like airplane wings, "HURRICANE HIMEEEEE!"

All that polite greeting and demeanor that Brett introduces himself with is quickly disappated, replaced with mere confusion as he stares at Himeko, blinking at her and simply being rather...baffled by the way she carries herself. But then again, it really does explain the superhero costume, doesn't it. "Umm....er...." Of course, the more she gets into her persona, the more Brett shrinks back, not sure how to handle this.

"Um....right...um....good...er..." He stumbles with his words, hiding his face under his helmet, instead focusing on his pre-fight preparation. He is definitely NOT suited to handling such loud personalities after all. At least, not until he gets into the game, and the game simply hasn't started yet for him to get there.

"Oh!" There's something pretty nice about that reaction; there's no doubt in Himeko's mind that she has successfully gotten into the head of her opponent! Well, that or he's naturally on the shy side.. The only way she'll know for sure is if she takes the supposed opening that's presented himself. "Hey now!" she pipes as she dashes foward, "If you have time to be flustered, then you have time to train! Let's see how your style handles against my unstopple fighting technique!"

So it seems there isn't a whistle or anything, and the masked fighter is starting on her own terms! Her boots pitter-pat along the sidewalk, then attacks Brett with a not-very flashy, but possibly particularly effective horizontal chop to the side of his neck, "Take -this-!"

COMBATSYS: Himeko successfully hits Brett with Quick Punch.

Flustered is definitely the word for it, but Brett IS one of those naturally shy types, so it's hard to tell whether it's Himeko's outlandishness, her loud personality, or just Brett being Brett behind his reaction. Of course, which is which doesn't change the outcome, as HImeko charges forward, and manages to chop him in the neck before the hockey kid can muster up a reaction, hitting before he can get his stick up to stop the strike.

Reeling to the side, Brett seems to take the hit rather harshly....but as he resets after that recoil, his eyes look rather different. Narrowed, his jaw is set, a rather stark difference from his usual nebbish, timid personality. Gritting his teeth, he glowers toward Himeko before pushing hard forward off the ground with his skates. Barreling forward toward Himeko, he tries to slam himself straight into her with a slashing strike from his hockey stick, trying to plow her over in the pass.

COMBATSYS: Himeko endures Brett's Power Strike.

Oh hey, it worked! Normally Dan does it downward but it seems to be effective as a horizontal attack as well- noted! Of course now isn't really the time for her to be using her opponents as a training dummy, is it? She certainly notices the change in the eyes, though, the helmet doesn't hide that well at all, "Ohhh, stepping it up a bit, are we? Come on, come on!" Which he does, but it's simple enough for her to tell what he's up to once he's close enough and so she positions herself to more or less take the brunt of the attack, but doesn't quite get barreled over in the process. No, in fact, before he might even know it she's counter-attacking!"

Ignoring the pain of the slash for the moment, she hops upward in an attempt to clasp one arm about the hockey-players neck, then once she lands, the other about his closer leg. Finally, with a roar of power, she launches herself backward into a fisherman's suplex onto the concrete!

COMBATSYS: Himeko successfully hits Brett with Fast Throw.

The strike seems to hit enough that Brett feels the feedback through his stick. But despite that, despite his momentum, he can feel her limbs constricting around him. And despite the size difference, before he knows it, Brett ends up suplexed completely over, lifted head over heels with a leg hooked until he lands straight on his back, the landing knocking the wind out of him. "GuaaahhH!"

Grunting as he rolls back over, he tries to find his stick, thankfully not too far despite the landing. Staying low in a crouch, he pushes himself off the ground with his hands, wheels moving him forward before he starts to spin. Holding his stick outward, he tries to chop at Hurricane Hime repeatedly with it, rising up and trying to pare her down with repeated spiraling strikes.

COMBATSYS: Himeko blocks Brett's Wild Spiral.

Himeko certainly seems to make it work despite her size; though it doesn't hurt that she knows how to lift. No one knows about that, and she'll probably never tell anyone who isn't Mimiru but that's another story. She's quick to her feet as well, though when she tries to identify the next attack, her eyes widen a little bit. Geez, he really is rough and tumble after all, isn't he! "Uh.." The ribbon wrapped about her left hand behaves.. Oddly. It's hard to tell what's really happening, but each strike of his seems to slam against the back of her hand of forearm as she steps back, almost as if she were using the limb as a fencing sword to clash with the attacks wanting to stay as close as she possibly can.

And man does it hurt, her arm actually tingles like crazy and it's probably going to leave a bit of a bruise, but she can worry about that later! It seems Himeko isn't quite done with throwing Brett around just yet, the moment he stops is when she crouches a little to slip around then behind to lock her arms about his waist then plant her feet firm to the ground. Ideally he's hoisted up and over, onto his shoulders, then she kicks her feet up to flip over him and suplex him a second time with a release! "Hyah!"

COMBATSYS: Brett blocks Himeko's Rolling Journal Suplex.

Repeatedly crashing against Himeko's guard, Brett continues spinning and spinning until he's fairly sure he can't keep it up long enough to simply break through. Coming to a stop, the hockey kid glowers still, definitely deep into game-face mode at this point. Of course, for all that's worth, as Himeko is still able to slip around him and grab hold of him. Unlike this time, however, he's able to pull himself free as the smaller girl tries to pull him overhead, the awkward landing as he gets loose landing him on his knee and barely catching himself on his hand before he topples completely over.

Gritting his teeth, he flips his stick around in his hand, trying to turn the butt of it toward Hurricane HIme before stabbing forward with it, trying to strike her in the gut.

COMBATSYS: Brett successfully hits Himeko with Medium Strike.

Ah, curses.. Thought she had him. Maybe she was starting to get predictable? Whatever the case may be, she has to be ready for his attack as well! "Wow, you're pretty good on those skates, and here I thought it was your handicap!" she praises with a bright grin. She thinks she has the stick strike handled, but unfortunately for her it hits dead on, slipping past her defensive shift and nailing her right into the gut enough to make her double over and send her staggering back a couple of steps, "Oooof!"

Her hand rests there for a moment, but even in that time she's got her ribboned hand drawn back and goes for a forward palm-strike right to the face! Or.. Well.. Helmet. But the thing about it is that the palm never quite reaches him but rather the ribbons unravel into the shape of a drill that practically detonates with bright, twirling energy. "GADOKEN!" she cries before she draws the 'drill' back with a big step backward.

COMBATSYS: Himeko successfully hits Brett with Irony Punchuation.

Unlike Himeko, Brett is not...terribly chatty once the fight is happening. It's one of things that works to his advantage and detriment, depending. For now, it just makes him a terrible conversationalist, more focused on the fight than trading banter with Hurricane HIme. With the stabbing strike out done, Brett pivots on those skates, readjusting his grip on his stick before re-facing her.

Unfortunately, he didn't quite expect the face full of energy as Himeko does her take on the Gadoken. Even with the unconscious flinching, the blast hits him in the face, causing him to reel back...and while his head recoils, his feet keep moving forward, only his core strength keeping him from flying onto his back.

Straightening back up, vision spotty, he shakes his head before trying to turn himself back around toward Hime. Even if he can't quite get a full bead on her, he barrels in anyway, trying to flip toward her and crash his feet straight into her with a heavy somersaulting kick forward, those skates adding extra weight to his heel drops.

COMBATSYS: Brett successfully hits Himeko with Falling Star.

Himeko doesn't seem very bothered by it, but it is a little difficult for her to crack jokes without any sort of feedback! She's decided that the whole 'trash talking' thing doesn't really work for her, but seeing him so serious is really giving her the temptation to start teasing him. But first, his somersault kick, which seem to catch her by surprise despite the bigger guy having to leap up for it- She can't quite react in time and so she gets the full brunt of it that once again has her groaning in pain. He's clearly no joke; it's enough to send her crashing flat onto her back, though she tucks her knees in and able to roll to her feet.

Her next attack gets even more unusual, as she races forward and this time rather than punch straight, she makes an uppercutting strike as the ribbon again takes the spiral shape with a stronger detonation than before! Ideally it would be enough to lift Brett right off the ground in which the spiral would unravel and wrap itself about the hockey player's ankle. Hime proceeds to spin around and around until the stress makes it snap and fling the young man off to who knows where while she's left falling flat onto her backside, "Ungh!"

Landing after that heavy Falling Star, Brett is forced to to put the brakes on before his momentum takes him too far over. With the hockey stop, he manages to pull himself around and get himself reoriented toward HImeko again. Still with that overly serious look, the Gorin athlete adjusts his grip once more, preparing for Himeko's response as she rises.

As she rushes in, he settles himself in...and when the attempted uppercut comes, he charges in to meet her. The strike clips him, sending his head around before his own stick crashes forward, a high check coming in toward the smaller girl as he swings out hard. And as he swings, his follow through takes him clear around in a near 360. As he comes around, he pushes off hard on his skate and charges in again, another charge toward HImeko, with a shimmer of blue energy around his stick as he checks the wannabe superheroine again.

From Hime's point of view it's a bit of a mess; she's not really sure -what- hit her nor what position Brett is in once she's nailed by the high check that nearly throws her off balance! She grunts, thinking she can regain her balance, but it only brings her into the follow-up attack- she sees a bit of blue before she's sailing back and smashes hard enough against one of the crates for it to burst open and send ornaments spilling out of it; some bulbs hooked into her hair by the time she gets up again, "Ow."

While she's quick to get to her feet it is with a bit of a slouch as she crosses her arms in an 'x' in front of her, "OK! Saikyo Secret Technique!" she declares, then thrusts her hands up into the air with her a leg crossed in front of the other. "Your kung-fu is good -but-!" she stomps forward, going into a series of poses and steps as if she were performing a kata from The Last Airbender, "The saikyo is burning within me!" She leaps into the air with one hand behind her back to unsnap something, and a flash of chi erupts behind her, "SHINING! BURNING! GUN-GUN---!!" four pillars of paper erupt from behind her, curl around, then fire toward Brett. They burn right up with bright chi, flareing with intensity to certainly match her shout! "MACHINE GUN!"

COMBATSYS: Brett endures Himeko's Oh Crap It's Kashiwagi.

Knocking Himeko back with that second pass from his Hurricane CHeck, Brett settles in, breath coming in quick draws. He's managing to keep the pressure on Himeko, but he's burning through his own stamina rather quickly, his aggressive composure faltering a bit as his endurance is starting to stretch itself.

It's possibly why, when Himeko starts to summon those columns of chi behind her, that he doesn't bother trying to move. Instead, he grits his teeth, and pushes foward into that torrent of energy. "GNHHHHHNNN!!" The burning power sears at him, but he charges forward into it, pushing forward until it finally subsides. The pain is clearly there, but despite how much it hurt, he continues to surge forward, charging closer and closer before trying to grab Himeko by her collar and punch...and punch...and punch. His fist wrapped around the butt of his stick, he continues to punch before the strikes turn into elbows instead, trying to keep going before finishing off with one last attempt at a stick strike, trying to uppercut her away with an upward strike with the heel of his stick.

".. Uh." Himeko has to double-take at the guts of Brett; watching him use some sort of technique to put his attack into his advantage is really quite the sight- she just can't believe her eyes! "Um, h- hey, uh, time out? Time out!" she cries as she waves her hands out in front of her, but before she can run aw- Uh, that is, make for a hasty retreat, he manages to get in close. Now, while Hime may appear to be in a burning panic, the fact of the matter is she's actually got everything under control.
Some might call it a tactic borrowed from a certain Stampede, as each punch of his manages to smash firmly against her forearm and the ribbon he smashes against is far harder than it should be, almost like punching stone, "Let's talk about this! I've got a family! I've got a wife and seven kids!" the deflections of his following strikes could be described as artistic miracles. And then..

"-Heh-."

The ribbon erupts this time not with a golden color but with a very familiar blue, like that of Brett's. Honestly it's not clear at all how she's done it, but it's quite clear she's stolen something from him. The final uppercut misses the heroine completely, and she thrusts her palm up into the air, the obect within her hand takes the shape of a hockey stick, serving as a skeleton for an even larger goalie stick-shaped chi that's easily twice her size. Before he knows it, with a roar, she swings up and over, attempting to smash the energy over his head, rear back, then baseball swing with it to knock him back!
he bad news is that's the last bit of energy she has- She put everything left into it, so loses her balance then crashes flat onto her back while gasping for breath.

COMBATSYS: Himeko can no longer fight.

The continued collision against Himeko's seemingly stalwart guard bolstered by that ribbon doesn't stop Brett, chipping away harder and harder with every strike, before backing away after that final stick strike. It's clear that Himeko is far tougher than Brett can truly crack right now, despite his best attempts. Sure, her attempts at throwing him off with her words doesn't work terribly, but it does hide from the crowd how well she handles his attack.

This time, however, when she attacks, Brett is clearly....confused. After all, that's HIS energy she's using, isn't it? And with a terribly familiar shape at that. Eyes widening, his stick rises up to catch the hammering blow, a sound of both surprise and worry escaping him as he's able to catch the attack even as it drives him down to a knee, and eventually, his butt.

However as he pulls himself back up to his feet, he sees that HImeko is down, struggling for breath and energy. His shoulders slackening, he falls out of that game mode, realizing the fight is over.

Slowly, he pushes himself over to her direction, enough to get close and offer Hime a hand up, notably leaning on his own stick with his other arm.

Hurricane Hime cringes with her eyes clenched shut tight for a moment but tries her darndest to get back to her feet, or at least sit up to see if she managed to pull a last-minute finish. For the moment she can't though, her whole body is acheing but especially her forearm which she ends up holding while she hisses. Eventually she comes to terms that the match is over for her, which leaves her feeling a bit disappointed. But once her vision clears up, that's when she catches sight of Brett being such a good sport, and upon seeing his hand her cheeks darken considerably, ".. Uh.."
Well.. Rather than take that she grasps his wrist instead, and is likely brought to her feet as she rubs the back of her head, "Wow, that got pretty intense there, huh?" she asks with a sheepish grin. "Well, that was a pretty good fight, but you'd be even stronger if you trained in the Hibiki Dojo.. So take that into consideration, champ!"
The end result is a respectable applause, though it's quite obviously half-hearted on the side of the Taiyo students.

Pulling Himeko up, Brett continues to lean on his own stick for support, a sheepish look on his face as he brings her up to her feet. "Yeah...um...sorry. I kinda get into a mode when I get into a fight. Like when I'm in a game, you know." He continues to rub the back of his neck, especially as applause comes for the finish of the fight. "Ah...thank you, thank you..." he says polite little nods to the crowd, especially his Gorin classmates.

And looking back to Himeko, he feels a bead of sweat draw down his back, for reasons he's not quite so sure about. "Um....thanks. I'll...consider it, maybe."

COMBATSYS: Brett has ended the fight here.
