Description: The first round of the Interhigh Tournament pits Hinata Wakaba of Taiyo High against what might be the most polite Gedo High student you will ever meet in the form of one Kazuki Kirigana. Burning spirit meets steady rhythm in a clash that cannot help but set the tone for the entire tournament! (Winner: Hinata)
Finally the time has come.
It was over a month ago that one of Hinata's newer friends, Ashley, had come to her with the idea of setting up an interschool tournament in Southtown as part of an effort to help bring down the tensions between schools after people had started stirring things up. Hinata had thought that was a great idea, and since Ashley didn't really seem to need any help getting everything organized with all of the schools, the sunshine girl had been responsible for a great many of the posters that had been put up around the city advertising the event.
Not being part of the planning also freed Hinata up to participate in the tournament, rather than just standing by the sidelines as an officiator.
And now it was finally time for her first fight. She'd apparently drawn one of the students from Gedo, the school that had most been responsible for a lot of the on-going conflict in the city. As much as a lot of their violent antics had upset Hinata, she was dead set on helping cut down on the tension between these rival schools, and being a good competitor was part of that.
So now she stands on the roof of Taiyo High as the sun starts to hang low in the sky. Despite the chill in the air, the whirlwind schoolgirl is still dressed in her summer uniform, smiling and waiting for her opponent to arrive.
Kazuki Kirigana is one of those dastardly Gedo students. Well, not really. The aikidoka is generally not one to make trouble, despite his surroundings. He made his way into Taiyo High, on high alert.
The young man is wearing a black gi and deep red hakama. On the back of the gi is a red embroidered Gedo High logo, and says nothing to any of the Taiyo students who might try to bar his way. Interlopers get nothing but a long, quiet stare, allowing their uncertainty and the silence to make them withdraw.
Kazuki makes his way to the roof, and spots Hinata fairly quickly. He bows shortly to his opponent. "Wakaba-san. Thank you for this match," he says politely enough.
This isn't quite what Hinata was expecting; most of her encounters with Gedo students have involved brash, rude individuals who wanted to pick a fight or cause some other sort of trouble. Despite Gedo's apparent aim of promoting dicipline through martial arts, the majority of the students are bad news punks.
Not to say that Hinata isn't pleased that her opponent isn't quite what she was expecting.
"Welcome to Taiyo High, Kirigama-san. I look forward to seeing your moves." Hinata replies as she returns the bow. "I hope you don't mind having to come all the way up here, but this roof is one of my favorite places in the city. There's a great view no matter what time of year it is."
The Taiyo girl moves away from the guard rail and approaches Kazuki. "Unless you need to catch your breath from climbing the stairs, I'm ready to start any time." She says as she starts to hop back forth energeticly, bringing her hands up into a fighting stance.

As soon as Kazuki announces his readiness, Hinata is off like a bolt, quickly closing the distance between herself and her opponent without an ounce of hesitation. While she was one of the first to say that fights between schools were a bad idea and doing little more than getting a lot of people who didn't deserve it hurt, this was different.
Hinata enjoyed fighting, but mostly when it was for fun.
Once she's managed to close in, the whirlwind schoolgirl twists around and launches a kick right for Kazuki's chest. Or, well, it would be chest-height on her, but with her short stature it's more of a gut kick.

Hinata's charge is fierce, and Kazuki has just enough time to go from ready (which really tends to resemble just standing there) to defense. He twists to one side, allowing the kick to sail by. He smiles softly, reaching for Hinata's thigh and knee, attempting to grab the smaller girl's limb.
If he makes the grab, he will twist at the waist and use his hip as a lever to slam Hinata into the rooftop face first!

"Pretty good!" Hinata shouts as she goes flying past Kazuki as he twists out of the way. Of course, by the time he's aiming to grab for her, the Sunshine girl has already managed to start rolling to put some distance between the two, leaving her well out of the way when she pops back up.
"Let's see if this works better!"
Hinata suddenly leaps up into the air and starts kicking. It's really a very impressive assortment of in-air whirlwind kicks, if not for the fact that she's nowhere near Kazuki. What is suddenly very near Kazuki, however, is a set of three oversized trainers.
Wait, three?

Kazuki hears the wind, the movement of Hinata. He is not at all sure where in the heck the third shoe came from, but his arms are moving before the fact can register. The Aikidoka's eyes narrow as the shoes clatter to the ground. Sure enough, there were three of them.
Kirigana looks at the shoes, then back to Hinata. "Curious," he mutters, as he focuses his senses on the young woman. Eyes, ears, scent, hearing. Touch isn't quite an option given the distance, but Kirigana has an odd... extension of his hearing, and this is something he opens up entirely, which is much easier when you consider he isn't wearing his headphones.

Following the attack, Hinata lands right back on the rooftop... still wearing shoes. In fact, as soon as attention lapses on the previously thrown footwear, it just seems to vanish, as if it was never there to begin with.
"No need to just stand there, come one, let's fight!" Hinata shouts as she starts to close the distance between her and Kazuki, this time she plants her foot in front of her, one hand remains cocked back right until she rocks forward from the charge and then finally brings her fist up from the side, aiming to connect with Kazuki's ribs.

Aikido is the art of the counter-throw, of using an aggressor's strength against themselves. Kazuki Kirigana has been practicing this martial art almost since he could walk. A straight punch is a lot like a straight line in a comedic act; easily acted upon.
Kirigana dips in low, gripping Hinata's wrist and upper arm even as he pivots on both feet. The aikidoka takes a half step backward, putting his back into Hinata's chest even as he calls to the wind. Kazuki comes upright, snapping sharply at the waist as he lets out a loud kiai.
The rise is coupled with a hard pull, forcing the smaller woman over his shoulder, and into the rooftop several feet away from him!
"We are fighting," he says simply.
Well, Hinata certainly hits the roof hard.
Clearly she threw herself a little bit too much into the punch.
"I can see that now," The Taiyo girl says as she pops back up from the ground. Despite taking a rather severe toss off her punch, she doesn't seem to be all that out of it. In fact, she's got a bit more of a bounce in her already bouncy stance.
"Looks like I shouldn't have just gone rushing in like that, so let's see if this works out any better!" Hinata shouts as she cups her hands down by her side. In between her fingers, a small spark of blue chi suddenly ignites, rapidly expanding as she draws her hands apart, building it up and up until it's as big as her own head...
..Then she simply thrusts both hands forward, propelling the orb of chi straight for Kazuki, watching carefully until it's right in front of him and then clenching her hands, causing it to suddenly "bloom" outward into a giant sunflower. Honestly, it's pretty much an explosion that happens to look pretty.

Kazuki's eyes go wide at the display of energy dances across Hinata's hands. He takes a deep breath, and once more entreats the wind as he steps in forward and low, thrusting both hands forward, palms open. He lets out a grunt of effort as the wind surges around his hands and slams into the chi blast.
Kirigana strains with the effort before throwing his hands out to both sides, tearing the Kikou Shotei in half, and sending both pieces of the projectile into the rooftiles at his sides. "Impressive," he says.
"You're doing pretty well yourself," Hinata replies, still smiling despite her current situation. "I guess I should probably put some more effort into this if I want get a hit on you, huh?" She certainly is rather behind in the fight, so far only managing to slightly dirty Kazuki with her now vanished shoe throw.
With all of the speed her surprisingly athletic body can manage, she begins to charge across the open rooftop toward her opponent. At nearly the last moment, Hinata suddenly launches forward with a burst of speed as both of her legs suddenly burst with chi flames as she swings around in a wide series of spinning kicks. The first comes in at an angle, aiming to knock Kazuki up into the air for the follow ups, two more burning kicks taking both Hinata and Kazuki higher into the air.

Hinata charges in, and Kazuki /hears/ it has the fire forms up around the girl's feet. His eyes narrow as he steps in, and tries to grab the incoming leg. He miscalculates, and moves too soon.
One kick, and he is in the air. Two more kicks slam home, burning and charring the black gi as Kirigana falls to the ground. He lays there, staring at the skies for a moment before rolling to his feet. "Too greedy," he mutters as he regains what passes for a stance.
Taiyo High campus was familiar to Miko in maps and photographs. She'd found the simplest, shortest route to the rooftop, and still managed to attract her fair share of angry glares, and in some cases, inspired actual punches to be thrown. But grievous harm could befall Gedo's mysterious transfer student as she walked through Taiyo campus, able to deftly evade even the fastest punches and kicks thrown her way, leaving only unharmed, frustrated students in her wake. It wouldn't do to injure her hosts, after all.
She makes it up to the rooftop, idly wondering why the tournament organizers would allow such a blatant home court advantage. Not that it -really- matters to the transfer student. She's here for one reason alone: to watch her pet aikidoka in combat with one of Taiyo's more... memorable representatives. Clad in her usual black Gedo girls' uniform, with thigh-high leggings and a boys' overcoat for warmth, she... sticks out like a sore thumb amidst the blue-green Taiyo uniforms. But she quietly finds a place amongst the observers. She has means of convincing them to make space, after all.
And just like that, Hinata manages to get back into the fight. She lands on the other side of the rooftop, having managed quite a lot of distance with her brief time as a human helicopter.
"That was a good try, I guess I just got the better end of that one," Hinata offers with pure sportsmanship. She spends enough time helping out the sports clubs at her school, it's no surprise she's got that sort of mindset for a fight... although it might be more reasonable to wait for the end of the fight to compliment your opponent.
Perhaps when you're as energetic and friendly as Hinata, it's really just a second thought to offer kind words in the midst of battle.
Regardless of sportsmanship, Hinata doesn't seem interested in letting the opportunity to keep going pass her by. Still fully energetic, she comes barreling in toward Kazuki again, still smiling as she lunges forward with a quick jab that she suddenly follows up with a haymaker aimed for Kazuki's nose.

Kazuki blinks once, and then Hinata is in his face. Or at least her fist is! Kirigana staggers back, one hand covering his nose as he stops. Kazuki winces with evident pain, and rubs under his nose with his hand. It comes away bloody, and that draws a scowl from the aikidoka. He wipes the blood off with the sleeve of his gi as he considers his next course of action.
He hears a familiar song on the wind, glancing to one side to see... Miko. He hadn't mentioned entering the tournament to her, but here she is. He grins a bit, and decides that reacting is not a course of action he wants to persue.
Kirigana charges in, driving a low elbow at Hinata's midsection before attempting to take an arm to throw the small girl over his shoulder one more time!

Clearly the correct course of action here is to simply roll out of the way. Instead of doing that, though, Hinata fails to do that and instead eats a blow to the gut and then gets shoulder tossed right onto the rooftop again.
It was a good effort.
Of course, that's nowhere near enough to actually get Hinata down. The energetic Taiyo girl pops right back up to her feet, still smiling. "I sure felt that one. Good thing I didn't go to the cake shop before our fight!"
The cake would have tasted a lot better going down than back up, if that hit had knocked the contents of her stomach loose.
Without anymore hesitation, or thoughts toward expelled dessert, Hinata suddenly goes surging forward back into the fight. Her fists go flying at an incredible pace, sheathed in burning chi and seeming to create an actual wall of punches as she aims to hit Kazuki anywhere undefended, utterly relentlessly. Even as the flurry of blows comes to an end, it's not over as she suddenly ducks down low, cocks back her right fist, and then launches upward in a flaming spiral uppercut aimed right for Kazuki's chi.

Kazuki staggers under the rain of punches, backing down under the assault before getting floored by the uppercut. Once more, he has an excellent view of the sky. This... is not going as well by any standard. Kirigana takes another deep breath before kicking himself to his feet.
"Might have been awkward," the young man agrees politely, even as he wobbles a little bit. This... has gotten a bit rough.
Nothing for it, Kirigana supposes. He charges in before dropping to a slide. As he slides past Hinata, he sweeps both legs, one in front of the ankles and one behind the knees in an attempt to slam Hinata to the floor once more. If that works, Kirigana maintains the leg lock, rolling once to provide extra torsion on Hinata's leg joints!

Glancing Blow

Throw in a good hit, then just pull yourself out of the way. Perfect opportunity to get ahead in this fight.
Or, when Kazuki comes charging in between her legs, it could just so happen that Hinata was just starting to jump forward at the last possible moment. This leaves Kazuki in the perfect position to cause her face to slam into the roof.
On the up side, it also gives her the momentum to roll forward after she hits, managing to avoid getting pulled into the painful followup hold. Of course, when she manages to get back up to her feet, she seems to look just a bit less energetic than she had been.
"Ouch, that was a good one... feels like I might get a nosebleed," Hinata comments, sniffing a few times and raising her brow while tilting her head in that peculiar way one does when trying to see the underside of their own nose. Which in Hinata's case, isn't quite bleeding, but she does look bruised up.
Once satisfied that she's not bleeding all over herself, Hinata surges back in toward Kazuki. "Let's see if I can pull this one off!" she shouts as she launches herself up into the air in an effort to plant both hands down on Kazuki's shoulders... then slam both feet down on the back of his head, knocking his face into the roof while she goes flying away in the other direction.

Kazuki surges forward as Hinata does, and then she jumps. He wobbles under the force of the kick, but gets his hands out to prevent getting his face planted. He grunts, and calls once more to the winds.
"I'm not out of this yet," he mutters as he sweeps his left hand back, and the wind kicks up hard. Kirigana is hopping that the sudden gust of wind catches Wakaba before she lands.
He is starting to flag, he needs to end this thing quickly.

It could never be said that Hinata Wakaba gave up on a fight because she was tired. Actually, it probably couldn't be said that Hinata Wakaba gave up on much of anything because she was tired.
Despite not being quite so free flowing, she's still smiling and excited. Seeing the wind coming flying right for her (instead of just going through her chi flower) isn't enough to worry her that much. The energetic schoolgirl simply makes a rather dramatic leap out of the way, following it up by popping out of a roll with both her hands already clenched around a spark of chi.
"I didn't get to see it that well before. Pretty cool attack. Maybe you'll get to see this better this time," Hinata suggests as she builds the ball of chi up larger and larger, then once more thrusts it right out at Kazuki, once more clenching her fists as it explodes out into petals.

"I heard it the first time," Kazuki murmurs. He doesn't turn to face the attack. He waits for a tense moment before quickly rolling to one side. The chi blast kicks up some tiles as Kazuki picks himself off. Kazuki wobbles a bit, and exhales.
He steps in low once again, before surging upward once more. He reaches out once more, thrusting with an upraised palm aimed at Hinata's sternum with almost crushing force!

Getting her sternum crushed would not be fun. Instead it seems like a far better option for Hinata to hop backward, leaving the palm strike to glide right past her chest (to no comment), leaving her unscathed, rather than in serious pain.
This time holding a conversation seems to have fallen off Hinata's radar. Things are really starting to get on the edge here, so rather than go on about how exciting it is to be fighting like this, the sunshine girl instead makes a very different maneuver as she suddenly lunges forward, locking her hands together as she attempts to slam her elbow into Kazuki's solar plexus.

Kazuki steps back, not lightly, and not nearly fast enough to avoid the elbow strike. It slams home, and Kazuki goes down like a sack of flour, and he stays down this time. He stares at the clouds for a moment.
"It's a nice view at least," he says softly before passing out.

After landing her blow, Hinata tries to pull back to ready stance as fast as she can. It's slower than she would like, and there's a part of her that worries she might well find herself on the receiving end of a rough hit.
...And then nothing comes. Hinata is left as the only competitor still standing, and looking a bit confused for a few seconds.
Then as soon as it becomes apparent that she's managed to pull out a win, Hinata, rather than going into cheering mode, goes right into helping mode. "Hey, you two!" She points directly at two boys from Taiyo's sports clubs. "Help me get him to the infirmary!"
Without hesitation the boys respond to assist the energetic Hinata... who quite honestly would have probably done it all on her own if required. This tournament is about bringing the schools together, so looking after your opponents is real important.
She can celebrate catching a win in the tournament later...
Miko Kobayashi had remained inconspicuously quiet throughout the fight. She'd already, quite clearly, distracted the person she was cheering for, which lends some doubt as to her motivations for coming here. But she wouldn't miss a chance to support her school. She would have helped carry him, but Hinata's kind heart was enough to compel others to help. That... will be remembered. The Gedo student bows back to Wakaba, stating simply, "Congratulations, you fought well." A ghost of a smile is offered before turning to accompany the gentlemen to the infirmary. As a ... concerned party.
