Description: In the first match of this week's SNF, Kain and Charlie face off down at the harbor. Kain's good luck when facing off against male soldiers continues, and he ends up giving Charlie a pretty tough time. (Winner: Kain)
Kain's been absent from the SNF scene for a few weeks, since he's got 'business' elsewhere that's been distracting him. Things seem to be running smoothly, however, so now it's time for a little time off. This isn't exactly relaxation, but Kain does find it enjoyable to pit himself against other fighters and hone his abilities. And you never know when you're going to wind up in a /real/ fight, so it pays to keep yourself in shape.
As the first fight on the SNF card, it falls on Kain and Charlie to do battle before lunch. Kain's not one for sleeping in, though, so this poses little problem. When he arrives at the harbor an area has been sectioned off, with ropes on three sides and a drop into the water on the fourth. Spectators and dockworkers who are taking their lunch break are already starting to crowd around, anxious to see people beating each other senseless.
As usual, Kain has little trouble making his way through the growing crowd, as few people want to stand in his way for long, even when he's not making an effort to be menacing. He easily hopes over the rope into the fighting area, smoothing down the front of his suit as he makes his way to one of the corners. This takes longer than one might think, because the area that's been set aside is rather large. It wouldn't do to have bystanders getting hit by projectiles or explosions. There's still a bit of time before the fight actually begins, so Kain makes use of it to gather his focus, preparing himself for the coming fight.
Kain's been absent, whereas this is Charlie's 3rd SNF in a row, which means he'll probably be taking a short break from it himself. At least, he thinks to himself, this -isn't- a fight at the Howard Arena, which means he gets to use one of his favorite flashy entrances. After Kain makes his way to the harbor area, there's still... no sign of Charlie. Until a deep-throated rumble issues from overhead and flashing lights start flaring across the opened-up area, and the spectators start looking up... to see a Harrier jet descending from the sky, gas plumes issuing from the opened vernier ports. Charlie isn't piloting--because he's standing -on the nose-, half-crouched on his right leg, balanced perfectly--and as the jet hovers to about twenty feet the man jumps off the nose, plummeting down to land perfectly on his designated starting spot.
After landing, Charlie takes a moment to salute the jet, which hovers back up and roars off--and then Charlie turns his attention to Kain. He's heard something about the man; one doesn't become a world-class fighter without some information being known--but his information sources aren't limited and some things need to be found out by hand. Charlie raises his right arm and salutes the other blonde, before taking off his glasses and tucking them away. That done, he calls out across the open space, "Ready when you are."
Kain directs his gaze upwards at the sound of the incoming jet, but his face doesn't betray any surprise. It's a nice entrance, he'll admit that. He prefers to save his own fancy arrivals for when it's useful to catch his opponent off guard. And since attacking without any warning is rather poor sportsmanship, it's less useful during SNF matches.
Kain waits until the Harrier heads off again, once more smoothing down his outfit to ensure it isn't too ruffled up by the jet's engines. Sliding his left hand into his pocket, he briefly cracks his neck, then nods to Charlie. "Well then... Let's get started, shall we?"
The Heinlein heir begins strolling casually toward the soldier, although after a moment he begins to pick up speed. His hand comes out of his pocket as he breaks into a run, but that only lasts for a brief moment before he leaps forward, twisting himself to launch toward Charlie with a powerful kick. As he leaves the ground a spark of purple fire flares up around his foot, quickly spreading outward and trailing behind his body as he flies through the air. Should he hit, those flames will rush forward to engulf Charlie in a firey blast.

The man's quickness is surprising; Kain closes the distance shortly, and even with the warning that Kain's about to start, Charlie's a fraction of a second too slow; the kick slips just past his arms and tags him in the chest, sending him back in a burst of purple flames. Purple flames... it reminds Charlie of his first SNF... and Charlie doesn't want to let this end the same way. He grunts with the hit, and though he falls to his back he immediately kips back up to his feet, taking two quick steps forward to close the distance before unleashing one of his more well-known techniques, rocking forward and shifting his momentum from his back foot to his front, planting it, using it as a fulcrum to swing around and bring his right fist around in a solid, strong backfist.

Kain sees the fist coming in, and prepares himself to deal with it. Charlie may have quite a bit of momentum going, but it does little good if it doesn't go where it's supposed to. An outcome Kain makes sure of, by grabbing Charlie's wrist as it swings in, pushing down so that it just barely grazes the side of his jacket instead of slamming into him with full force.
The German quickly releases his hold, then moves to take advantage of his close proximity to Charlie. He thrusts his arms out to his sides, purple fire starting to flicker from the cuffs of his sleeves and pant legs. The warning only lasts for a moment, though, before Kain's entire body suddenly bursts into flames, engulfing the area immediately around him, and possibly Charlie if the soldier isn't fast enough. The surge of chi is so powerful that Kain's feet actually hover a very slight distance off the ground before the fire is extinguished.

The warning is enough; Charlie pushes off with his powerful legs, lunging backwards, bringing his arms up, getting away just before Kain, well, explodes. Quite an interesting technique, that; and, Charlie muses, for a moment, very dangerous looking. Perhaps he'd better look to keep Kain at a distance for now; with that in mind he prepares his own chi techniques, cocking his right fist back for a moment, letting the chi gather, then hurling it forward, towards Kain, in a wide, spinning arc of energy. And, like any proper fighter, he announces the attack dramatically. "Sonic BOOM!"
COMBATSYS: Kain overcomes Sonic Boom from Charlie with Schwarze Flame.

Fighting at a distance is okay by Kain as well; he's taken pains to make sure he can be effective in a wide variety of situations. For distance fighting, he can move with surprising speed to turn it back into close combat, or he can take the alternate route and play keep away with his opponent. And he's gotten quite good at dealing with projectile attacks.
Specifically, punching through them. Kain thrusts his right hand forward, launching out a ball of purple fire on a collision course with the energy arc that forms the Sonic Boom. His flame crashes right through the center of Charlie's attack, causing the energy to scatter and fade away. Afterwards the flame, though diminished in size from the impact, continues along its path, which should hopefully lead it right back to Charlie...

With Kain busting through the Sonic Boom like that, Charlie doesn't want to risk what would happen with trying to pull off the same feat that Kain did; instead he just brings his arms up, setting himself to take the purple flames on his forearms. Fortunately, chewing through the Sonic Boom at least reduced the sting of it; but rather than press the attack, he takes a moment to center himself, almost like locking in a target. Brown eyes acquire Kain, narrowing, the ex-Air Force fighter's fists relaxing to ready stance once more.
COMBATSYS: Charlie focuses on his next action.

Well, if Charlie's going to be hanging back, then Kain will just have to bring the fight to him. He advances quickly on the soldier, slipping his hand back into his pocket in that deceptively casual stance. As Kain closes in his right hand begins to swirl with purple fire, fingers flexing as if he's preparing to do something.
That's just a ruse, however, as the real attack comes when he suddenly braces himself against the ground with his left leg, and snaps out a fast kick with his right foot, which is engulfed in a blue energy aura as he attempts to drive it into Charlie's stomach, hopefully distracting him out of whatever plan he might have been coming up with.

Charlie's breath is blown out in a quick 'oof!' as he's hit; he had just been starting to move forward to attack when Kain moved in and it was a perfect hit for the blonde ki-flame wielder. Taken off his track he merely stumbles back, wondering for a moment if he should stop doing the SNF thing for a while... training, more training, that's for sure. Rubbing his stomach where he was hit he shakes his head, again attempting to regain his composure.
A chance to regain his composure is one thing that Kain definitely doesn't want to allow Charlie to have. This may not be a life or death situation, but Kain doesn't go easy on his opponents. It would be a disservice to them, and keep them from having an opportunity to become stronger.
That in mind, Kain keeps moving forward as Charlie stumbles back, maintaining the distance between the two men. Although his style focuses largely on kicks, this particular situation isn't well suited to attempting to lash out like that, so Kain falls back on other methods. He thrusts out with his right hand in a flaming palm strike. He attempts to drive the heel of his palm into the underside of Charlie's jaw, to snap the soldier's head back and perhaps keep him off balance.
COMBATSYS: Charlie blocks Kain's Medium Punch.

Charlie, even stumbling back, is aware of the incoming punch and gets a forearm up, largely deflecting it, though the ki-flames themselves graze his face and transmit some pain to the soldier. He's certainly not doing well, a very large disappointment to himself; though it really isn't about winning or losing in cases like this he expects at least a tighter performance from himself. An attempt to begin to rectify the situation comes immediately after the block, as he snaps a fist out, aiming a jab at Kain's chin, as if to return the favor (minus the flaming ki.)

Kain quickly shifts his arm as he draws it back from delivering his own strike, twisting it to deflect the punch from Charlie. There's a brief stinging in his arm at the point of impact, but nothing that's going to cause him any undue trouble.
Even as he's blocking Charlie's attack, Kain is preparing to retaliate with his own. He twists his body slightly to the side, leaning away from Charlie as he shifts his weight. As soon as he's got the necessary leverage Kain lashes out, attempting to slam a flaming kick into Charlie's stomach both painful force and accuracy.

And painful it is; Charlie takes the kick to the stomach before he can do much about it, grunting in pain, stumbling once again, and starting to become truly incensed at himself. Perhaps, he thinks to himself, he can transmute the anger into force of will and other such ineffable qualities of use against an opponent such as Kain--who, by the way, is certainly living up to his billing, if Charlie is not--and mid-stumble he lunges forward, attempting to grab Kain by an arm and toss him over-shoulder.

If Kain could read Charlie's thoughts, he'd certainly approve of the idea of attempting to use his anger in a controlled manner to improve his fighting ability. As is, Kain is only able to read the fact that Charlie is getting angry and frustrated. Something that Kain can take advantage of, if he plays his cards right.
And that's just what Kain attempts to do as Charlie comes charging in. He allows himself to be grabbed and, as Charlie seizes his arm, purple fire begins to build up in Kain's hand. He underestimates just how quickly Charlie can yank him off his feet, though, and Kain is sent sailing over Charlie's shoulder before he can complete whatever he was planning. He hits the ground in a roll, tumbling for a moment as he attempts to right himself. He comes dangerously close to the edge of the pier, but manages to stop himself in a crouching position before he can go over the side.
Charlie presses his momentary advantage, setting off in a quick dash after the man known as Kain Heinlein. He knows--can tell--that Kain would give no quarter, and is certainly fighting seriously. So Charlie will do the same, and as he comes out of the dash he's crouching low, planting one hand for balance as he attempts to cut Kain's legs out from underneath him in a scything sweep kick.
COMBATSYS: Kain dodges Charlie's Heavy Kick.

Kain may be down for a moment, but he's not out. He can see Charlie coming, and he'd rather not get hit by a blow that could quite likely start a chain of events that will see him falling into the harbor. Have you /smelled/ the water? He stops his attempt at straightening up as Charlie comes in, using his half-crouching position to help him spring up as the soldier's leg lashes out at him. He leaps up and over Charlie, twisting around in mid-air in an attempt to return the favor.
The German's shoe is engulfed with flame as he stabs downwards, attempting to land a vicious blow somewhere in the vicinity of Charlie's head or shoulders. The fact that it has all of Kain's weight behind it should make it that much more painful.
COMBATSYS: Kain successfully hits Charlie with Strong Kick.

*CRACK* Kain's attack tags Charlie square on the skull, and it hurts. But--but it doesn't yet drive the man down. He's running on empty, but he has enough in him to make one last attack--one last attempt to at least partially redeem himself. And from his forced crouch it's all the easier to start up, as the man summons his reserves for this last attack. More excited observers may say they saw Charlie flash, or glow for a moment; whether he does or not is moot. What is important is that he rises from that crouch, despite the throbbing, pounding pain, turning on his toes as he rises; from this position, his arms splayed out to either side, he throws himself upwards at Kain, in a reverse somersault kick, one leg tucked slightly behind the other; as his heels arc through the air they carve upward slashes of bright white chi, his heels glowing with his concentrated energy; furthermore, though he lands he's not done yet, the momentum of his attack carrying him forward into another one, and that into a third, this third attack launching the Air Force man impressively high into the air... and after he lands he'll simply slump to the harbor's decking, completely done.
COMBATSYS: Charlie can no longer fight.

The first flash of white energy is just barely enough warning for Kain to begin drawing up his own energy, purple flames engulfing his arms. Each slashing kick is knocked away by quick, almost reflexive strikes from Kain's arms, the extra bite of the chi being swallowed up by the defensive use that Kain has found for his flames.
Finally the assault stops, and Kain takes a cautious step back as Charlie starts coming back to the ground. It doesn't take long to realize that the fight is over, though, as the soldier slumps to the ground. The flames around Kain flicker for a moment then die out, and Heinlein watches Charlie for a moment before slipping his hand back into his pocket and allowing himself to relax.
SNF staff take a moment to confirm the victory, and then Kain begins to walk off. He'll want to keep an eye on Charlie, as he does for most of the powerful fighters in the world... but there's nothing he's seen to endanger Charlie of getting entangled in his plans. At least, not yet.
COMBATSYS: Kain takes no action.
