SNF 2005.10 - Kensou and Kelvin vs Chin

Description: Kensou and Kelvin vs. Chin in a 2v1 matchup. A wacky log full of crazy evasions and damaging attacks. (Winners: Kensou and Kelvin)

Which is somehow to say that Chin isn't a challenging fight?! Don't let him hear that! Still, as the two fighters show up - on time, rather than early, but at least it wasn't late - Chin carefully begins to stand up, a process that takes a minute or two, including a few stretches of his legs, making a few random noises of discomfort and pain as his joints act up. Pausing only a moment to wave to Kelvin as he arrives, smiling cheerfully, with a reply of, "No, not at all," he finally manages to stand up, with one certain joint giving him a stern talking to in the form of pain. "Mmph," he says back to it, and then leaps off of the car, landing easily, though he takes a moment to actually recover, in which he gets to hear the other's comments.
Starting to walk over to the two, he calls over, "It's still too early for you to be saying things like that to me, Kensou!" He stops near to the two, though his attention is focused on Kensou. Slowly, his hand raises, holding a gourd, his eyes looking critically towards the young man. An almost tense air now surrounds the old man as he seems to prepare for something. Then, all of a sudden, he gives a sigh and backs off. "You've got too much of a headstart," he says, cryptically, and as he moves into position, settling into a fighting stance, gourd tucking back into his sash-belt, he motions. "Come, then!"

Wow, Kensou is fired up! Though.. ..Kelvin supposes it's actually because of this strangely structured battle. Did somebody know that he was studying with these two..a spy, perhaps!? He'd definitely not been telling anyone else about it. Just a trace of a frown comes to the blue-haired youth's face as he rubs the back of his head, pondering it for a moment. But, there are other things to be worrying about, for the immediate moment. While he doesn't particularly like the idea of fighting Chin on several levels, it's what the people demand! "Okay," he says, stepping up to the proverbial plate, and closing his eyes fully for a moment. "I'll show you what I've got," soon follows, as his eyes open just slightly, and his posture seems to get even more relaxed, quite the opposite of the average fighter. Feel the calm. Be the calm.

Exhaling a determined breath, and rubbing the back of one gloved hand over his mouth - luckily getting most of the crumbs off - Kensou turns and easily assumes an alternative version of his usual fighting stance; not as wide-legged as usual, but still a sidelong stance with his head turned towards Chin, his arms held loosely with his right fist pulled back to his chest, and his left fist forward, turned palm upwards. "An' I'll show you just how well you taught me!" the agile psion proclaims, in agreement with Kelvin's statement.

Obviously, Chin isn't too drunk this fine evening, seeing as how he can manage to stand up straight without wobbling side to side, like his previous match. Perhaps he wanted to keep a clear head for this fight. In any case, he simply glances to both fighters first as they adopt stances, and for a time, there is silence. Obviously a tense air floating throughout. The audience might be cheering, but it's different inside the ring. Of course, as soon as one of the refs shout 'Fight!', it all changes. Immediately, Chin begins to move, with surprising speed for an old man. Reaching for his waist, he snatches up a gourd, and then immediately lashes out with it, aiming to strike at Kelvin with the heavy cermic object over the distance.

As soon as the fight starts, for real, Kelvin.. ..doesn't really change much. Perhaps that's the reason he gets subsequently caught by surprise by what is to follow; a result of his over-relaxation? Or, perhaps he's just analyzing the properties. Regardless, he remains tight-lipped about it, and purely business -- admittedly hard to do, when a gourd of high-proof liquor strikes him squarely in the body, and sends him reeling back for a few inches in a free slide, before his shoes grip the hardtop. It doesn't manage to break his focus, and despite the awkward balance this imposes, he's suddenly slicing forward through the air with the minimum possible resistance, gathering his momentum for what is to follow. Once he feels his distance closing to the unexpectedly agile mentor, he suddenly pivots on one foot, half-spinning before aiming to strike hard with his fist.

Aaaand, there it goes. Kensou starts moving as soon as the 'fight!' is shouted, watching as his teacher goes right for Kelvin with that gourd, but the Psycho Soldier is not deterred by his friend getting attacked! Instead, he tries to get himself behind Chin even as Kelvin goes for that hard fist-strike... Actually /jumping/ towards Chin at the last, twisting to land in a weird crouch on his hands, though he only holds that position for the barest fraction of a second, his arms crossed at the wrists, before he explodes into a spinning, rising motion behind the old man, lashing out with both feet in a series of uppercutting kicks. "Yaaa-!"

Snapping back on the string, the gourd returns to the old man's hand, but he doesn't have much time to celebrate. As the two come at him, he hops back a little, trying to keep both of them within his senses. Kelvin's easy enough, directly in his sight, and with a well timed ducking-shuffle of a sidestep, he manages to evade the wide, hard swing... but then, mistakenly, has let Kensou not only get behind him, but given him the ample opportunity to perform his attack, the kicks catching him square in the back. Flying forward, he makes a loud grunting noise, but manages to recover quickly by tucking into a roll that he rises out of, almost smoothly, were it not for the almost painful sounds of his ankles cracking. Turning right around again, he quickly closes the distance to once again try and attack Kelvin. As he nears the boy, he almost seems to trip, as if he managed to find the one loose stone in the parking lot that would send him into a slide, which is actually a disguised attack, seeing as his foot is now on a collision course with Kelvin's ankle.

COMBATSYS: Kelvin fails to counter Gyaku Ashi Nage from Chin with Negative Momentum.

So far, if Kelvin was looking to impress Chin with his performance.. ..he's making a bad attempt at it. Maybe he's too rusty with these arranged fights? As Chin approaches, it's not so much that Kelvin 'falls' for it; but the awkward angle of approach, combined with previously being off-balance from his wild-attack, doesn't give him time to properly adapt as he might otherwise. Yes, it's time to take a spill. Dramatically, he hangs in there air for just a moment, despite having no rights to be tilted that far and still standing. But..eventually, gravity and momentum wins out, and the youth falls victim to the same forces he normally plies so well to his trade. This is.. ..downright embarassing. "..oof," he utters, snapped out of his concentration for just that moment, as he whallops to the hard, unforgiving concrete. At this rate, it'll take him a few moments to chase all the spinning birdies out of his vision..and also at this rate, it might be effectively Kensou all alone.

Tucking and flipping at the height of his upward movement, Kensou lands spryly on his feet, turning to see Kelvin getting attacked /again/! Clearly, the older Psycho Soldier must have some sort of strategy, the way he's all over the sleepy psion like white on rice, but dang. "What am I, chopped liver?" Kensou mutters, bringing his hands up in front of his face briefly. "Haa-!" Gathering his energy, he then sweeps those hands out, quickly, as Psycho Power coalesces in front of him and forms a blue-tinged sphere of white energy, hurtling towards Chin! "Choukyuudan!"

COMBATSYS: Chin blocks Kensou's Choukyuu Dan.

After the trip is made - he can feel it happen, if not see it, due to his eyes being mostly filled with the world going by him very fast in a sort of blur, probably from the alcohol - maybe it WAS an accidental trip, then? - Chin recovers soon enough to at least hear Kensou's semi-taunt, but there already isn't any time to reply. Getting to his feet is a bit more laborous this time, and by the time he actually does get up, he can feel the ball of energy flying towards him. Turning, he doesn't have much time to dodge, so instead, simply does what he can - he crosses his arms over his face, and braces. The ball of energy hits him squarely on the arms, forcing him back a small bit, feet still grounded. As the energy dissipates, the cloth covering Chin's arms seems fairly singed, a few bits of the cloth actually burnt away. Soon after the attack is made, however, the old man is suddenly rushing Kensou, then jumping, twisting in mid-air, and then attempting to land on his adopted son's shoulders. A hand tugs Kensou's head back, the other suddenly clutching a gourd, which he, if this all succeeds, brings up to the young man's lips, forcing a little drink, with a cheerful call of, "Relax, Kensou! Relax!"

Okay.. ..normal vision and functioning returned, such as it is. Kelvin's managed to, somewhere in the middle of all this, get back to his feet and gather his surroundings again. Everything's back under control. Of course, what he returns almost threatens to knock him back out of the zone he'd just achieved again. Uncle Chin is.. ..jumping all over Kensou now! While it's good to have a bit of a reprieve, admittedly..well.. ..there's no telling what might be in that gourd, given a 'testing' fight like this. After just a moment's hesitation, Kelvin has his resolve back, and is once again moving forward. This time, he aims just wide of Kensou and Chin, and swings his arm out as he's looking to breeze past. If it all works out, he'll catch Chin with the clothesline-like attack, and send him onto the ground..and consequently, off of poor Kensou! Geez, if he needed a drink, he'd say so!

Oh, shi--! Kensou's eyes widen as he gets his wish, and his teacher comes right at him, leaping forward... So, what's a guy to do? Well, actually, he's not even giving Chin the chance to land on his shoulders, instead dropping /backwards/, so the old man can go right over him! He doesn't fall onto the ground, though; instead, the agile, acrobatic fighter's legs tense, holding him up dramatically with his knees bent, the hood of his vest touching the pavement, before he springs back to a standing position. "Geez, that was /close/," he says, dropping back into his stance and tensing again, but this time he doesn't try to attack Chin; instead, his hair and clothes stir lightly in a nonexistent breeze, and little bluish motes of light start to pop into existence in the air around him, swirling about. As they swirl, they get closer and closer to him, turning into larger motes of blue-white energy, gathering into Kensou's form...

So many people, so much drink, and not a lot of them seemed to want it. Oh well, more for Chin that way. He lands, soundly, facing Kensou as the young man deftly dodges his attack, for which he gets a mental praise from his sifu. But, there isn't much time to reflect, for Kelvin has managed to regain his feet, and not only that, is charging at him, arm first. He notices it in time, and his stance shifts lower, hoping to take advantage of his not too impressive height in order to duck under the clothesline, but at the same time, he tries to move forward, possibly to attack. He fails, of course, because there's Kelvin's arm, right in his face, bowling him over, being sent back a small distance with a bunch of rather comical yowls of pain and surprise. Still, Chin is pretty good at this rolling stuff, so like most of his rolls so far, he manages to recover from it fairly quickly. Crouched on one knee and a foot, he holds up the gourd that has been held in his hand this entire time, and then fetches another. Both gourds, then, are slung out on strings... aiming for Kensou!

Bringing the train to a stop can be even harder than getting it started in the first place. Rather than lose all that momentum he'd gained from the rushing attack, Kelvin instead grinds the heel of his shoe into the pavement, once again twisting his body around to bring that familiar fist -- as well as his weight -- to bear as the old man is trying to deal with Kensou, and perhaps thinks he's come to a halt a far longer distance away. Surprise!? This isn't typically his preferred method of fighting, but..Chin's moves are so unfamiliar, so bizarre, and so unexpected that he feels he has to feel things out a bit more thoroughly before he tries anything less standard. Hopefully, Kelvin's body can deal with the extra bit of exertion for a time.

"Geh!" exclaims Kensou, as he's hit right in the face, and right in the gut, with his teacher's gourds, sending him sprawling back into, well, a car, banging his head. Owie! "Ow ow ow..." mutters he, as he gets back up, rubbing the back of his head. Now then, where was he? "I ain't quite done yet," Kensou says, as he takes a deep breath and is apparently content to let Kelvin try and deal with Chin for now, as he continues to gather power!

The gourds hit! And again, with a practiced tug, the gourds come flying back towards him, and both settle into his hands nicely. However, as Kelvin nears the codger, Chin doesn't quite move... until just the last second. Using his 'odd angle', as it were, he ducks his head down, and then with a push, rolls himself backwards, tucking himself in tightly to avoid the fierce swing from the boy. He doesn't go far, however, immediately regaining his feet, and then stepping up, he attempts to, using the string again, rather than launching it like a projectile, simply use the heavy gourd's weight in a melee strike against the young boy, for now ignoring what Kensou has in mind.

Normally, Kelvin might be caught off-balance at a moment like this. Yet, this time, he apparently 'felt' Chin ducking out of the way of the incoming force, and by the time the old man's brought his answer about, he'd find Kelvin's hands already readjusted from an attacking position to a defensive one. Palms outstretched, he quite effectively catches the gourd, the unseen power put into it diffused harmlessly -- somehow -- through that light frame of his. Kelvin takes just a moment to crack a bit of a smile to Chin, before it fades back into his pure business expression. Moving quickly to take hold of the gourd's sling while Chin still has it extended, if caught, Kelvin will spin it, and the aged master, around in a half-circle, before releasing.

Finally, Kensou seems to relax! Yes, he's apparently gathered as much energy as he thinks he's going to need, little motes of blue still floating hither and yon in the air of the battlefield... But the Psycho Soldier isn't going on the attack just yet, 'cause Kelvin seems to be taking care of himself just fine. No, now he's watching closely, watching his teacher for just the sort of opening he'll need to make a crushing, decisive offensive! Or something like that. He's just trying to prove to his Sifu that he's learned those important lessons about 'strategy' and 'tactics' and 'not just attacking constantly like a moron'.

Such a defense is certainly unexpected by the old man. Dodging, perhaps. Taking it on the chin, as it were, no pun intended. But /catching/ the gourd? These things weren't light, and it truly is impressive that Kelvin could manage such a feet. Kelvin, too, gets a silent praise from the old master, before suddenly he's being flung. It's not to hard to throw Chin, being something like ninety pounds soaking wet, so it's no surprise to see the man launched into the air, giving a comical yell of surprise as he's sent sailing. Perhaps surprising on the old man's part, as well, is that in mid-air (after the yell), he twists a bit, aiming his back for the ground. Upon impact, there's an audible crunch and a grunt, but then, just at the point of impact, the old man kicks his feet up, and performs a simple, almost elegant looking flip, landing hard on his feet and sliding back a ways. Seems he went with the flow on that one! Using the sliding motion he's locked into, he twists his feet, and pulls on the string the gourd is attached to, the one he never quite pulled in. With that, he spins in place, and then lashes out with the gourd, directly at Kensou.

That accomplished.. ..it seems Kelvin just coincidentally gave Kensou a bit of a boost in his own exploits against Kensou. Woops? Well.. ..Kensou's had it fairly easy for the past while, so now it's the blue-haired young man's turn to take just a moment of closely analyzing the situation, and to make sure his body is caught up with where his mind is at the moment. His breathing is slow and steady, not showing any of the signs of physical stress one might expect after a battle of this length and amount of action -- and pain. It must be the power of the Empty Mind! Unfortunately..he lacks the ability to make the weird energy flow into him on demand, so instead he's relying on the original psycho power; his mind. Plus, there's perhaps just a trace of boyish curiosity on what the heck Kensou is up to here, and how he expects to deal with Chin's antics.

And, here come those gourds again. Over the years, since he was first found as a lazy, gluttonous little orphan in mainland China by the elderly Chin, Kensou has been hit by those damn things a /lot/. Just, you know, not this time. His eyes are focused and intent, and he sees his opening as his legendary teacher strikes out at him, right when Chin's offense is at its strongest. He leaps forward, in an almost purely horizontal jump, with his left elbow extended - his fist braced by his right hand - along with his left knee, with a cry of: "Yaa-!" It seems pretty straightforward, really, like Kensou's usual Ryuu Renga technique, but...

This was fairly bad. Caught as he was in the slide, not to mention all of Kensou's preperation for this attack, Chin was most assuredly boned, as the cool kids said these days. Still, as Kensou reaches the apex of his jump, Chin feels an overwhelming need to dodge the attack. He knew this attack was different, and what it would do if it hit - particularly, if it hit /him/. Beyond that, he simply needed to keep Kensou on his toes. So, just as Kensou begins descending, Chin takes a cue from Kelvin's fighting style. As the gourd had been dodged, it was still in a rotational motion. Using its weight, he simply... leaps, trying to get out of the way of the attack. And wouldn't you know it, it worked. Kensou crashes into where he was, and Chin lands, safely, just to the side of the attack. Snapping the gourd back into his hand, he turns towards Kensou. And all of a sudden, without any fanfare, the air around the Sifu suddenly ignites into a huge, raging inferno. Launching himself at Kensou, he begins to attack the boy with a series of seemingly random kicks, punches and gourd slings, the raging inferno of fire obviously not doing a whole lot to help with this.

Kelvin's eyes open just a fraction wider as he takes all this in. To him, the action that just went down might seem to flow in slightly slower motion than it does for the average persion, explaining his uncanny ability to see through attacks, and how to deal with them. This, though..it would seem almost impossible, had he not seen it. That was really something, and worth the wait! But.. ..as he subsequently sees his partner-of-the-hour about to become the target of a punishing series of strikes in retribution, he knows he can ill afford to remain an observer for much longer. Taking what he's focused, Kelvin is off -- to the rescue! Unless Kensou manages to get away, he knows he's not going to be able to stop everything, so he instead focuses on dividing the old master's attention. He does so in the best way he knows how; he suddenly slides to a stop slightly to the side of Chin, and aims to try and take hold of that ever-convenient gourd sling, and use it to give the one attached to it a lesson in 'conservation of momentum'..right to the ground.

Unfortunately, Kensou's attempt to show his teacher the ULTIMATE ATTACK which he was taught by Chin himself sort of... Doesn't pan out, what with him, um, misses, causing Kensou to land in a three-point stance, and look confused. "What the he-" AUGH OH GOD WHY! SO MUCH PAIN! Kensou gets nailed from behind by his Sifu's furious, flaming assault, his lean body and sweet new duds battered with every fiery strike... At least, until he decides he's had /quite enough of that/, thanks. He doesn't let Chin finish his technique, instead falling backwards and slamming his left hand onto the pavement, a little circle of dust rising from around it, while swinging his entire weight onto that arm, and smashing his right foot, and then his left, into the old master's, uh, chin. No, he had never expected Kensou to do such a thing. Particularly, he had thought that young man would be quite stunned by the fact he had dodged the attack that by all rights should have hit him and quite probably put him out of commission. So when the counter comes, Chin is unprepared for it. The kick hits him square in the puns-a-plenty, and with a cry he is sent backwards, into the air a little bit, where he would have landed quite soundly, had not Kelvin done a rather spectacular combo move right then, grabbing ahold of one of the gourds he had lashed out with and simply, tossing him to the ground. It's probably the last move, however, that keeps him from being dazed by the blow to his chin, the sharp crunch of the ground against him knocking his senses back into place. But oh, how he ached. Lying there, he seems to be done, dust and debris floating up around him. However, one might notice he's... taking a drink of his sake? And then, just a moment after, the haze is parted again by a hellacious gout of flame bursting forth, aiming to strike at Kelvin.

Finished with the 'double tec', Kelvin pauses where he'd been standing when he threw Chin, and then shuffles back a half-step. With old guys like this, you can never be too sure what they're going to pull out next. ..and so he quite wisely doesn't rush in to check on Chin's condition *quite* yet. Especially as he sees the slight trace of movement within the smoke screen, which confirms his suspicions -- that even now, he's plotting a surprise. Of course, nothing can prepare him for what rushes out at him; a sudden rush of flame, which while he doesn't scream in pain, he can't deny is very hot. He can feel it washing around him even through his crossed arms, and it adds some nice scorch marks to his sleeves and shoulders, something he'd thus far been avoiding in this fight. Curses! 'There has to be some more practical way to deal with attacks like these,' he ponders, before dropping his defense, and feeling the assault has slackened for a moment, rushes forward through the flames. He ducks low, and aims to catch Chin with his shoulder in a tackle, before reaching an arm around and bringing him to the ground with his weight and acquired kinetic energy.

Woo, look at that gout of flame. Kensou's glad that isn't him! Anyway, it's time for him to go and get back in the game, it seems; not bothering to dust off his poor new outfit, the Psycho Soldier spryly leaps on top of a nearby car - because it's not like he can behave as if they aren't there! - to survey the situation a little... And then he takes a few steps over the roof and leaps back /off/, flipping in midair. His leap, naturally, is bringing him towards Chin, whether or not Kelvin manages to bring the old master down again, as he tries to land a big axe-kick with both feet, trails of blue-tinged white Psycho Power trailing behind either foot. "Haaa--!"

Being old and tired, Chin doesn't have much hope of doing anything at this point. He, of course, had tried very well to do his best, but unfortunately... time makes fools of us all. So, as Kelvin tackles him, and then Kensou double axe kicks him, Chin lets out a low groan of pain... and then lies still. He barely had any energy to even attempt a dodge, much less complete it, and so, the old man is knocked out quite handily, a hand on his gourd, as if he were about to counter attack. Or maybe just making a statement.

COMBATSYS: Chin takes no action.

COMBATSYS: Chin can no longer fight.

Of course.. ..sensing that Chin is, actually, finally down, Kelvin looks a bit concerned. But from what he's just been through, he also has a new respect for him, and knows that he's a lot more durable than he looks. His energy must have just given out. And so.. ..what does Kelvin do? He pretty much follows Chin's example, short the alcohol, and reclines up against the convenient base of a lamp post, crossing his arms behind his head, and closing his eyes, "..that was quite a work out..I think it's time to sleep." Of course, only he and Chin would think of taking a nap out here in a parking lot, where they're just as likely to get run over. No doubt somebody will chase them off, eventually.

COMBATSYS: Kelvin has left the fight here.

Flipping /back/ off of the impact of hitting his Sifu, Kensou lands neatly on his feet, not staggering even a little. It's a fight well won, it seems, though whether or not it was a truly /fair/ match is wide open for questioning. And so, as the audience cheers for the victors, and Chin lies there unconscious, and Kelvin goes and... Takes a nap... Kensou is left standing alone when the announcers declare victory for the two teenaged psions. "Whew," says Kensou, rubbing the back of his head. "That was some workout."

COMBATSYS: Kensou has ended the fight here.
