SNF 2005.07 - Jul-2005 Summary

Description: [OOC] All the bulletin board posts from the July 2005 Saturday Night Fights.

==============================================================================
SNF Matches: 7-02-2005 -- Fri Jul 1 2005 -- Geese
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Since some people misunderstood this last week, I will restate this again in all caps: THE TIMES LISTED ARE SUGGESTED IC TIMES. THEY ARE NOT OOC DEADLINES, YOU MAY PLAY THE FIGHT OUT AT WHATEVER REAL LIFE HOUR YOU WISH UP UNTIL 7:20 PM OR OTHERWISE ARRANGED.

Match 1: Duck, Mai, Malin, Ramon, and Leona -- 5-Way FFA -- Taiyo Dome -- Noon

Match 2: Megumi vs. Jiro, Gabriel, Nassir -- 3v1 Special Order, See Rules -- Street area of Southtown Village -- 1:30 PM

Match 3: Benimaru vs. Cammy -- 1v1 Standard -- Pao Pao Cafe -- 3 PM

Match 4: Rolento vs. Vanessa -- 1v1 Standard -- Taiyo Rooftop -- 4 PM

Main Event: Iori vs. Kain -- 1v1 Standard -- Howard Arena -- 6 PM

Posted Rules: Kyo and Shingo both get slapped upside the head OOCly for withdrawing from SNF literally in the middle of me booking matches. Everyone please remind them that they suck. Shingo indicated he may remain available, and if so, he may get a standby match. This is no guarantee.

Match 2 has special team entry conditions. Jiro, Gabriel, and Nassir do not all fight at once. Only two of them at a time do. This team will need to select just two of its fighters at first. The two selected ones will fight simultaneously against Megumi while the third person remains on the sidelines and takes NO actions. Should one of them be KOed, the third person enters on the round after they're KOed. That is, the KOed person gets their Final Action, and then when their turn would normally come up again if they were still in the fight, the third person enters. If you do not understand this rule, page me so I can explain it. Violation of this rule will be grounds for a Disqualification. I am trying this "Only part of the team goes at once" rule to see if it balances out encounters like this, so I would very much like to see a log of this when it is done.

Please get your matches done before 7:20 PM real world Eastern time. There is a KoF plot scene scheduled for this same night at 9 PM, and I would hate for people to miss it. I don't know what exactly will happen, but I imagine it's more important than random SNF bouts. So keep this in mind as you schedule your matches.

==============================================================================
Match Change Sat -- Jul 2 2005 -- Geese
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Multiple people in Match 1 have had sudden RL circumstances prevent them from participating in Match 1 tonight. Specifically, Leona and Duck cannot attend. This creates a 3-way FFA, but Shingo and King remain available, so I am putting them in. Match 1 CHANGES MATCH TYPE to become the following:

Match 1: Mai & Malin vs. Ramon & Shingo vs. King -- 2v2v1 Simultaneous -- Taiyo Dome -- Noon

Match 1 gains a Special Rule: King is allowed to pick her place in the turn order, to try and compensate for her lack of a teammate. Further, King gains limited gang-up immunity. Until at least one other person is KOed, only one person from each team may attack King simultaneously. Once someone goes down, all bets are off in this regard. Note that King is NOT a Chaos Agent. King is to try and win the match, just as the other teams are.

==============================================================================
SNF Results: 7-02-2005 -- Sun Jul 3 2005 -- Geese
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Match 1: Shinobu & Malin vs. Shingo & Ramon vs. King -- 2v2v1 Simultaneous -- Winners: Shingo/Ramon ($4,550 each) - 2nd: King ($3,350) - Losers: Shinobu/Malin ($455 each)

Match 2: Megumi vs. Jiro, Gabriel, Nassir -- 3v1 Special Order -- Winner: Megumi ($5,500)

Match 3: Benimaru vs. Cammy -- 1v1 Standard -- Winner: Cammy ($6,000)

Match 4: Foxy vs. Rolento -- 1v1 Standard -- Winner: Rolento ($4,550)

Main Event: Iori vs. Kain -- 1v1 Standard -- Winner: Kain ($6,650)

Notes: As always, if a specific prize isn't listed for a character and they lost the match, they got 10% of what the winner did. In the case of team matches, the prize is Per Person. That is, Gabriel/Nassir/Jiro got $550 apiece. King gets a small bonus for doing better than I expected; I thought she'd be the first to fall even with the protections given. Match 1 was easily the single most re-re-re-re-reorganized match I've ever booked. I'm going to slap all of you. Including you. Those of you who gave me advance notice of not being able to attend will be slapped less forcefully, as a token of my gratitude.

I would like to slap Kob...er, /thank/ Kobun for suggesting the Special Order rule used in Match 2. Match 2 was interesting, and after reviewing the log, I've come away with a lot of information on how to balance fights like this. The result was not what I expected, as I thought Jiro/Gabriel/Nassir would win by a very modest margin when I booked this match. Nonetheless, the results were not far off from what I projected would happen, and I think we're on to a good balancing solution here. I will be booking a similar Special Order match next week; High Ratio sign-ups take note, I will be using one of you for a similar match to see how it goes for you, as I want more data on this arrangement. If any of you would like to specifically volunteer to be placed in a match of this sort for this week, @mail me and I will be glad to consider it.

Obviously, Foxy vs. Rolento is not the match I booked. Foxy unexpectedly took Vanessa's place. Normally I would be against this, but in this case it's not a problem. It's my understanding they attempted to make contact with me to check about this change (and I would have agreed to it), but I was offline for much of the day. I do ask that people not spontaneously re-book things too often, but I will occasionally allow it, and it worked out for the best in this case since I really didn't want to see Vanessa vs. Rolento happen again anyway. I simply booked it because on Friday evening and I was out of options for opponents. In any case, I usually have a specific reason for the matches I book, so consulting with me before changing them is always a good idea. Vanessa/Rolento have my thanks for attempting to contact me, it's not their fault I was unavailable to be reached.

Signups are cleared for this week and you may sign up effective immediately.

==============================================================================
SNF Matches: 7-09-2005 -- Fri Jul 8 2005 -- Geese
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Match 1: Benimaru vs. K' with Vanessa as Chaos Agent -- 1v1 Chaos Agent -- 11 AM -- Harbor

Match 2: Kain vs. Shenwoo, Jiro, and Gabriel -- 3v1 Special Order -- 1 PM -- Large Clearing

Match 3: Elena vs. DongHwan -- 1v1 Standard -- 2 PM -- Sound Beach

Match 4: Cammy vs. Rolento -- 1v1 Standard -- 2:30 PM -- Dream Amusement Park

Main Event: Sakura & Megumi vs. Foxy, Alma, and Katana -- 2v3 Simultaneous -- 4 PM -- Howard Arena

Notes and Rules: You may find it strange that this week's Main Event features no truly high-ratio characters. This is by design; the Main Event can't always be a clash of the titans, or else it gets old fast. The IC hype around this one would probably be something like 'Two champions team up' -- Sakura won KoF, Megumi won Strolheim, so it could get billing/hype like that and still make sense as a main draw. This one is Simultaneous as I feel that will probably be a balanced match that could easily go either way.

Match 2 uses Special Order rules. The team fighting Kain will need to leave one person on the sidelines, to come in after one of their members is KOed. Please be extra sure to autolog this one because I would like the 'combat data' from it, to see if Special Order is as balanced as it looks to be on paper. I will probably run this match-type again for the next two or three weeks before passing a final decision on if this rules/match-type becomes part of SNF on a long-term basis. Remember, the third person enters on the turn after the 'KO-ee' is taken down. The KOed person gets their Final Action (or no action if KOed on an Interrupt), and then on the NEXT round, you go. Any questions on how this goes? Contact me ASAP.

Match 1 has standard Chaos Agent provisions. If anyone is unclear on how Chaos Agents and 'fairness' work, now's a good time to ask. I'm pretty sure most people 'get it', however. Feedback on the Agent's behavior (as well as any provocations against the agent that justify biased attacks) is welcome, as it will help determine what sort of matches they're asked back to Agent for. In theory, I pay by fairness and book by fairness. In reality, sometimes I like throwing little curveballs your way with the use of Agents who might not be predictable.

==============================================================================
SNF Results: 7-09-2005 -- Sat Jul 9 2005 -- Geese
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Match 1: Benimaru vs. K' with Vanessa as Chaos Agent -- 1v1 Chaos Agent -- Winner: K' ($5,600) - Vanessa receives $3,500 for Agent role.

Match 2 Alternate: Kain vs. Shenwoo, Ramon (was supposed to be Jiro), and Gabriel -- 3v1 Special Order -- Winner: Double KO ($2,800 apiece)

Match 3: Elena vs. Dong Hwan -- 1v1 Standard -- Winner: Double KO (See Notes)

Match 4: Cammy vs. Rolento -- 1v1 Standard -- Winner: Double KO ($1,820 apiece)

Main Event Alternate: Sakura & Megumi vs. Foxy & Angel (was supposed to be Alma and Katana) -- Winner: Double KO ($1,820 apiece)

Notes: First, I would like to apologize to Kain for misunderstanding what other players said about his schedule and attendance; I nearly removed him from a match due to this for what would have been an improper reason.

You may notice 'Alternate' is included after some match names. This is to indicate when substitutions were done. My thanks to those who stood in at the last minute to keep matches going.

I'm told Match 2 was very close. Obviously it had to be if Double KO was the result. This is encouraging, as it along with last week is suggesting that maybe we are on to a way to balance this sort of encounter. I will continue to run Special Order rules for a few more weeks, I believe. Whoever logged this, PLEASE let me know when the log is up so I can read it. Gathering combat data, I am.

Match 3 ICly happens several hours late as Dong Hwan shows up very, very late IC (not OOC). SNF producers retaliate by docking his half of the prize money down to a mere $99; I ICly send Dong Hwan a note telling him he does not collect $100 and does not pass Go. Elena receives $1,400.

Match 4 continues the Double KO trend, as does the Main Event. I'm starting to think I booked matches that were a little TOO even. Jeez. One actual Winner this week. I'm gonna slap all of you. Including you. And quite possibly you too.

Signups are cleared again for this week and you may +signup as of this post going up.

==============================================================================
SNF Matches: 7-15-2005 -- Fri Jul 15 2005 -- Geese
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
My apologies in the delay for this post.

Match 1: Kain vs. Shingo, DongHwan, & Elena -- 3v1 Special Order -- 11 AM -- River Bed

Match 2: Jiro vs. Gabriel -- 1v1 Standard -- 1 PM -- The Mall

Match 3: Foxy vs. Shenwoo -- 1v1 Standard -- 1:30 PM -- Boardwalk

Match 4: Heavy D! vs. Vanessa -- 1v1 Standard -- 3 PM -- Dream Amusement Park

Match 5: Ramon vs. Adon -- 1v1 Standard -- 4 PM -- Taiyo High's Auditorium

Match 6: Benimaru vs. Rolento -- 1v1 Standard -- 5 PM -- The Park

Main Event: Ryu & Megumi vs. Gen & Cammy -- 7 PM -- Howard Arena

Notes and Rules: Yes, I've booked Kain in this match-type again, with his consent. Normally I hate to repeat matches like this, but I'd like a little more 'combat data' from him, as a final test of this rules type. If this goes relatively even, I think we can call it balanced for sure. Thank you for being willing to do this again Kain. Everyone be sure to slap hi--er, thank him, when you get the chance.

Ryu got a reward for being so accomodating of my booking, from a historical/long-term perspective. Namely, I let him book his own Main Event, subject to my approving it as a balanced match. In this case, the booking is OOC in nature; ICly the Main Event is a result of my whims since Ryu ICly wouldn't ask for this match, but OOCly wanted it. And yes, this match does look fairly even...it might be a SLIGHT mismatch (as to which way, I'm not saying, nyah-hah!), but I think it's surmountable and isn't what I'd term 'Unbalanced' or anything close to it.

Keep an eye out for similar "You book your own match" rewards in the future to certain individuals. If this one goes over well, I'll probably do it again in the future.

==============================================================================
SNF Results: 7-15-2005 -- Sat Jul 16 2005 -- Geese
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Match 1: Kain vs. Shingo, DongHwan, & Elena -- 3v1 Special Order -- Winners: Team ($6,000 to each)

Match 2: Jiro vs. Gabriel -- 1v1 Standard -- Winner: Jiro ($2,000)

Match 3: Foxy vs. Shenwoo -- 1v1 Standard -- Winner: Shenwoo ($4,550)

Match 4: Heavy D! vs. Vanessa -- 1v1 Standard -- Winner: Heavy D! ($4,550)

Match 5: Ramon vs. Adon -- 1v1 Standard -- Did Not Happen, Notice Given (no forfeits awarded)

Match 6: Benimaru vs. Rolento -- 1v1 Standard -- Winner: Benimaru ($4,750)

Main Event: Ryu & Megumi vs. Gen & Cammy -- 7 PM -- Howard Arena -- Winners: Ryu/Megumi ($7,250 to each)

Notes: Ratio 1s get paid at a slightly lower rate than Ratio 2s. This is to accomodate that ICly they are probably not as big a 'draw' as R2s and above are just yet. Hitting R2 and higher will of course come with an SNF 'pay raise.' I'm also probably going to elevate the pay-rate for Main Events a bit; they're supposed to be the big draw of the evening, more advertising paid for on TV during these, etc. So it makes sense.

I would like to once again thank Kain for fielding another Special Order match. I'll probably be curious about the log, but as of the first use of Special Order rules, we've had the solo individual in those matches win once, tie once, and lose once. I believe this can be deemed a Balanced Fight, and will be using Special Order as an official match-type from now on (though next week likely won't have one, for variety's sake).

Ramon and Adon have my thanks for notifying me they both couldn't quite get their match scheduled today. Remember, my knowing this stuff helps me post results faster. Giving me notice also makes me more kindly inclined in future bookings, so it's a win-win deal to drop me a quick @mail letting me know what's up.

Signups for this post have been cleared, and signups for the next SNF are open effective immediately.

==============================================================================
SNF Matches: 7-23-2005 -- Fri Jul 22 2005 -- Geese
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Match 1: Gabriel, Nassir, Jiro, Mickey -- 4-Way FFA -- 11 AM -- Pao Pao Cafe

Match 2: Kensou vs. Shingo -- 1v1 Standard -- 1:30 PM -- Chinatown streets

EDIT AGAIN: Match 3 is now: Rock vs. Cammy -- 1v1 Standard -- 3 PM -- Boardwalk

Match 4: Rolento vs. K' with Foxy as Chaos Agent -- 1v1 Chaos Agent -- 4 PM -- Pacific High sports field
(any)

Match 5: Vanessa vs. Angel -- 1v1 Standard -- 5 PM -- Dream Amusement Park

Main Event: Geese vs. Iori -- 1v1 Standard -- 7 PM -- Howard Arena

Notes: My apologies for the post-in-error earlier about no SNF. My schedule at the time looked like it was going to absolutely 100% rule out handling SNF bookings this week, but that no longer applies. No special rules about any of these matches, if anyone doesn't know how to handle a 4-Way FFA or Chaos Agent match, now's the time to ask me. @mail your concerns.

Also, the 4-Way FFA will need to keep track of in what order each person is KOed, as placement will depend on this. INCLUDE THIS INFORMATION in your results @mail to me.

==============================================================================
SNF Results: 7-23-2005 -- Sun Jul 24 2005 -- Geese
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Match 1: Gabriel, Nassir, Jiro, Mickey -- 4-Way FFA -- Winner: Mickey ($1,950) -- 2nd: Gabriel ($1,000) -- 3rd: Jiro ($500) -- Loser: Nassir ($195)

Match 2: Kensou vs. Shingo -- 1v1 Standard -- Winner: Shingo ($3,550)

New match 3: Rock vs. Cammy -- 1v1 Standard -- Winner: Cammy ($5,250)

Match 4: Rolento vs. Kula with Foxy as Chaos Agent -- Winner: Double KO ($1,820 apiece, See Notes) -- Foxy receives $3,500.

Match 5: Vanessa vs. Tiffany & Alma -- 2v1 Simultaneous -- Winner: Tiffany & Alma ($4000 apiece, See Notes)

Main Event: Geese vs. Iori -- 1v1 Standard -- Winner: Iori ($7,250)

Notes: K' apparently provided notice he would be busy past the deadline, and his opponent and agent did not agree to an extension. Kula was substituted in. Angel arrived past the deadline, I hear it was computer problems but as I received no specific notice of if she could attend or not, so Angel was replaced with Tiffany and Alma.

Iori is apparently Daigo Umehara; he Parried my Deadly Rave. This probably makes me Justin Wong, a shame which I cannot bear. I am going to remove myself from this mortal coil in light of that.

I had to leave a fair number of people out this week for want of suitable matchups. I am considering looking into solutions for this and have a few ideas for the future. None of the solutions are particularly ideal, but they're something.

==============================================================================

==============================================================================
SNF Results: 7-30-2005 -- Sat Jul 30 2005 -- Geese
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Match 1: Sakura vs. Megumi -- 1v1 Standard -- Winner: Megumi ($4,550)

Match 2: Kensou vs. Leona -- 1v1 Standard -- Winner: Leona ($3,500)

Match 3: Shingo & Dong Hwan vs. Tiffany & Foxy -- 2v2 Simultaneous -- Winner: Shingo/DH ($4,750 each)

Match 4: Vice vs. Rolento -- 1v1 Standard -- Winner: Vice ($4,550)

Match 5: Zero vs. Haggar with Duck as Agent -- 1v1 Chaos Agent -- Winner: Haggar ($5,600) = Duck gets $3,000.

Match 6: Akira vs. Vanessa -- 1v1 Standard -- Winner: Akira ($4,550)

Main Event: Terry vs. Kain -- 1v1 Standard -- Winner: Kain ($8,000)

Notes: Ryu was unable to attend the event due to OOC fatigue. Ryu was removed from the match. Rock did not attend Match 5 (not logged in for most of Saturday), unknown reason. Zero replaced him.

I believe Shingo is on a winning streak; four in a row if I'm not mistaken.

At this point, I would like to note something: It's really nice if you tell ME when you can't attend. Telling your opponents is good too, but you should tell both me and them. Not just one of us, but both. Tell your opponent(s) AND Geese by @mail if you can't attend, please. I hate hearing everything second-hand; it leaves things open to misunderstanding, and you people have seen that I've nearly eliminated someone from a match wrongly in the past due to that sort of thing. So tell everyone involved, and consider me involved by default.

Signups are cleared for the next week, as of this post.
