SNF 2005.07 - Kain vs Terry

Description: When Ryu isn't able to show up for a planned FFA, Kain and Terry end up going one on one. Kain appears to be doing pretty well at first, but Terry manages to even things up, bringing things to a close finish. (Winner: Kain)

Well, it's not quite what Kain was expecting when he was told the lineup for tonight's fight. He's fought against both Ryu and Terry before, and knows them both to be quite capable opponents, and he's yet to be able to triumph over the Ansatsuken fighter. However, it appears that for unknown reasons, Ryu isn't able to make it to Howard Arena tonight, which leaves Kain facing off one on one against a certain Mr. Terry Bogard.
Kain hasn't had a lot of interaction with Terry, and aside for a bit of mutual respect for one another's skills after a sparring match some time back, they haven't really run into one another. Sadly, Terry's mindset doesn't appear to be quite what Kain is looking for, although he does have the kind of capability that Kain is looking for in people. Once the revised card has been officially cleared, Kain makes his way out onto the arena floor, giving no signs that he even notices the people cheering from him. It's hard not to acquire some fans when you're both good looking and a more than capable fighter, but fame isn't something that's particularly important to Kain. He's here for the fight, not the glory. Once he's out on the stone floor of the arena Kain adjusts the fit of his gloves briefly, taking a casual stance as he waits for his opponent.

"Huh. What do you mean he's not here? I was looking forward to it."
There's a brief sound of surprise in the elder Bogard's voice, as he was, in fact, looking forward to fighting the man that managed to beat him in the World Warrior tournament. But, as fate would have it, it was just not meant to be. Instead, the main event has been cleared for a one on one, and once he's been notified that the new card has been cleared, then it's time to go out and say hello to the crowd.
And that same crowd, that had died down to a dull roar after Kain finished his introduction, picked right back up again as the arena's announcer broadcasted the arrival of Terry Bogard. With a wave of the leather glove-clad hand to the crowd, he strode up into his side of the stone floor with a grin spread across his face. "Haven't been in here in a hell of a time. Good to be back."

Once Terry makes his entrance, Kain greets the other man with a respectful nod. He may not understand the true nature of existence, but he's at least managed to more than prove his worth, with his long string of successes and impressive accomplishments.
Now that both fighters are in position, it's only a few moments more until the announcer gives the cue to "Fight!". After all, that's what everybody's here for. Kain shifts his posture slightly, left hand slipping halfway into his pocket. It's still a quite casual pose, and not really the most effective combat stance that one could come up with. Given Kain's extremely fast reaction times, however, it usually fails to be a problem for him. He holds his right hand up and slightly to the side, purple flames swirling around his fingers as he watches Terry, waiting for a good opening.

Once the familiar cry of 'Fight!' echoes over the loudspeakers, the cap-clad blonde's mind eases itself from the easy-going mindset into a comfortable fighting crouch, arms out in front of him, bent at the elbows, left hand just a leeeeettle higher than the right. His fingers flex into fists and relax once, twice, and a third time while he watches the man across from him. Somewhere in his mind, the hand-in-pocket pose and purple flames bring Yamazaki to mind for a brief moment, but that's put aside with a brief chuckle before the Converse All-Star-clad feet start to slap against the stone.
A very brief jog kicks up into a full run as Terry starts to speed towards his opponent, and the grin can be seen getting wider and wider across his face before he puts that momentum to good use, vaulting into the air to test Kain's reflexes, turning a 180 in mid-jump to bring a foot around at the apex of the leap and attempt to bring it crashing down upside Kain's head.

COMBATSYS: Terry has joined the fight here.

Kain passes this test, as his head is no longer there when Terry's foot comes crashing down. A quick hop to one side allows Kain to move to safety, although Terry's foot does still come quite close to clipping Kain's shoulder on the way down. Close doesn't do much good here, though, especially when it gives Kain a good chance to lash out with an attack of his own.
The Heinlein heir also starts things out with a kick, although his rises up as opposed to Terry's downward smash. Kain's right foot lashes out, trying to drive upward into Terry's chest, hopefully with enough force to lift the man off the ground. If Kain's physical strength isn't quite enough, though, perhaps the explosion of purple flames that occurs on impact will be enough to have Terry spending a bit of time in the air.

COMBATSYS: Terry blocks Kain's Schwarze Lanze.

As the full circle is turned, and Terry's foot finds only air for its result, it's brought back down with a skitter of plastic sole against pavement. That noise quickly echoes through the arena again with a sharp squeak as Terry's driven back a few feet from the force of the flames that explode against his forearms as they're crossed in front of him at what very well may have been the last moment. Once he stops moving backwards against his own will, the remaining wisps of flame are shaken away with a quick wriggle of his forearms. "Hm."
With a brief, respectful nod, Terry settles back into stance again, arms held in front of him almost like a boxer would defend, the blonde peers over his fists for a moment before, once again, pushing off his back foot for momentum. There's no other movement of his feet, though, and he all but glides across the floor while his right fist is brought back and thrown forward, gaining a thick blue aura around the entire fist once it reaches full extension. All this, accompanied by the familiar cry of "BUUURN KNUCKLE!"

The attack is fast, but Kain is still able to see it coming. He slips his hand out from his pocket, crossing his arms in front of himself and letting Terry's fist slam into that guard rather than getting a clean hit in. Kain does rock back slightly from the impact, but not enough to cause him too much trouble.
And then Kain leans forward, throwing his arms wide to either side, hopefully while Terry is still right in front of him after the blocked attack. Because this particular attack works best at close range. Kain's entire body bursts into flames, purple fire engulfing everything within a shot distance from the German fighter. The flames give off a loud roar that almost matches the shouts from the audience, and the blast is so intense that Kain's feet actually rise a slight distance off the floor, falling back down as the flames die away.

.... ow. Bloody /ow/.
There's no real chance for him to react, and soon after feeling his fist slam against Kain's arms, his entire body is quite thoroughly engulfed in bright, painful, purple flame. Not long after that, the fiery elder Bogard is tossed several yards through the air with a twisting turn that would impress even the French olympic judge before slamming back-first onto the pavement and skidding a couple yards. Terry continues to lay there for a moment before he rolls back onto his shoulders and kip-ups to his feet.
"Impressive. Didn't even see it coming." Despite being set aflame, Terry just smiles again before settling back into his crouch. Once again, he's forced to break into a swift jog to close the distance between himself and the German, only to drop forward at the last moment, tucking himself into a roll and pushing off the ground as the roll hits his shoulders. His right leg is extended, the left coming right behind it, and it's all brought into a rapid twist as he springs from the ground, aiming to bring his foot right up underneath Kain's chin.

COMBATSYS: Terry successfully hits Kain with Rising Tackle.

And Terry's foot slams into Kain's chin quite cleanly, giving the German a chance to get blown off of his feet in this match. His head snaps back as he leaves the ground, crashing down onto his back a fair distance away before he even has a chance to think about trying to recover. It's just lucky he didn't bite his tongue; that probably would have been messy, given the force behind that blow.
Just because he hits the ground hard doesn't mean Kain isn't going to be recovering quickly, though. It's the work of a moment to roll back to his feet and hop up to a standing position. Kain rubs his jaw for a moment, then gives Terry another nod. Once that's taken care of, Kain draws his hand back, before sweeping his arm in Terry's direction, sending a ball of purple fire leaping from his hand and shooting toward Bogard.

And, once again, the blonde is set aflame.
Terry's feet alight to the ground again after the Rising Tackle, and he carefully settles back in while waiting for Kain to get back up to his feet. With that mental reminder of Yamazaki in his mind from the casual pose and the flames, he was hardly expecting them to be mobile as well. As Kain sends the circular flames dancing his way, his only recourse is to, once again, throw his arms up in front of his face. The fire, however, proves to be made of stronger stuff, and quickly turns the blonde's entire body purple for a good few moments before they finally fade. A shudder runs all along Terry's spine before he settles back into a comfortable crouch again.
His head tilts from one side to the other as he looks over Kain's stance... and rather than make an attempt at charging into the defenses again, he takes his assault airborne. His knees sink into a deeper bend for a moment before he springs off the ground, and his body rotates a full 360 degrees while ascending, then starting to come back down to earth. ".. Powah..." He's facing Kain again as the spin completes, and that spin brings some momentum as his right fist comes down to try and bring his knuckles right upside Heinlein's head. "DUNK!"

COMBATSYS: Kain dodges Terry's Power Dunk.

And once again, Kain is able to avoid Terry's attempt to strike from the air. Pivoting on one foot, Kain spins himself right out of the way of Terry's incoming fist, and keeps going in an attempt to position himself for an attack from Terry's flank. "Himmlische..."
Even as he's spinning around, greenish-blue flame begins to fill Kain's hands. As he comes around to face Terry again, Kain thrusts out both of his hands, attempting to plant them on Bogard's back. He's quite capable of doing this attack at a range, but it's that much harder to defend against when done point-blank. "Seele!" The flames in Kain's hands balloon outward, expanding into a massive sphere of roiling flames and raw chi energy, easily large enough to engulf the greater part of Terry's body. And then the orb blasts out from Kain's hands, possible carrying Terry along with it for a short distance.

Much to his own pleasure, the brief touch of hands on his back convinces Terry to spin around rather quickly and bring his arms into the familiar criss-cross what's likely half a moment before he would have been blown clear across the arena. He's forced by the sheer energy of the ballooning chi to skitter back, digging his feet in for the ride to only manage to be sent a few feet away. Rather than shake the flames off, however, Terry attempts to slip one in before Kain can recover from the sudden expendeture of energy... while the flames are starting to dissipate, the call can be heard good and clear.. "Power..."
Right then, one of the leather-clad fists punches through the flames, sending the rest of them to clear out right as that same fist is brought down to the concrete. When knuckles meet stone, the ground in front of him damn well literally explodes, and whatever distance there may have been between himself and Terry was filled with a sudden outpouring of the elder Bogard's chi that, should luck be with him, will send Kain flying just as well as the German fighter attempting to send him back before. "GEEEYSAH!"

COMBATSYS: Terry successfully hits Kain with Power Geyser.

Kain brings his arms up again in an attempt to stop Terry's oncoming attack, but it doesn't work quite so well this time. The energy blast slams into Kain's guard, but he hasn't had enough time to brace himself; the German gets blasted off his feet by the attack, going tumbling down to the arena floor again.
Kain hits the ground rolling, though, and manages to come to a stop and leap back to his feet rather smoothly. And then he's rushing in toward Terry, flames spiraling up his arms as he does so. As he draws close, Kain thrusts both of his hands out toward Terry, but he doesn't actually try to make contact with the other man. Instead, the flames from his arms burst forth as his hands come close, a quickly spreading cloud of flame threatening to engulf Terry and hopefully send him reeling.

COMBATSYS: Kain successfully hits Terry with Schwarz Cutter.

The fist is pulled back from the ground, and Terry brushes his hands off, wiping some of the dirt from the arena floor from his gloves while he watches Kain hop back up to his feet. When the other blonde starts to charge in, the flames are duly noted. He rocks onto the balls of his feet as Kain moves closer and closer, and when those hands are thrust out, he pushes off, trying to drop into a sudden backward roll to avoid whatever is about to erupt from Kain's hands. He hops up to his feet just a smidge too soon, though, and the fire catches up to him before he can get a safe distance...
The ponytailed fighter is starting to feel the fatigue from being burnt time after time again, and rather than just give Kain time to recover, he's going to mount one last charge. He knows when he's ready to drop, and he's feeling that heavy breathing deep in his chest... Already set aflame, Terry charges through the cloud of fire, shoulder dropping down low as he tries to drive his shoulder straight into Kain's sternum.

COMBATSYS: Terry successfully hits Kain with Overshoot Geyser.

... and when the defenses fail, he feels shoulder impact bone and flesh. "Oooovahshoot..." His knees flex ever so briefly, and instead of continuing forward, he throws his entire body upward, flinging himself into the air for one last desperate assault. The right fist is extended high into the air, only to come crashing down hard to the stone right at Kain's feet. "GEY-SAAAAH!" Once again, Terry's fist explodes in a burst of energy similar to the one previous, sending a nice flare of energy right up in Kain's face with enough force to, once again, send the German backwards.

And... oof.
Kain's not entirely happy right now. He /should/ be able to deflect the chi energy that Terry is throwing about quite handily, even if he's not so good with dealing with the physical aspect of Bogard's attacks. He's not going to let that get to him, though. Getting pissed off just makes it that much easier for your opponent to beat you. So, as Kain gets back to his feet, rather painfully, he's still remaining calm.
His flames however, appear just a little bit darker as they spring to life in his hands once more. Both fighters are getting worn down... If Kain can take Terry down at a distance, he might have a better chance of avoiding any last hurrah from the other fighter. And so Kain whips both of his arms towards Terry, twin balls of purple fire leaping forth. They spiral around one another in their flight, as they zoom in toward Terry.

COMBATSYS: Terry endures Kain's Schwarze Flame.

The ponytailed blonde is well aware that he's skating on thin ice, at this point. He's already taken to a crouch before Kain has climbed back to his feet, rocking back and forth between his heels and the balls of his feet. His eyes dart back and forth between Kain's hands and his feet. Hands. Feet. Hands. Feet. Handsfeethandsfeethandsfeethands and there're the flames.
As soon as the flames start to manifest, Terry's already charging on that proverbial last hurrah... and when both arms are whipped around, the momentum is put to use as he drops his left shoulder down and throws himself into a rather high.. well, something akin to a mix of a flip and a cartwheel. Kain's flames crash directly into Terry's side in mid-leap, but the momentum is still strong enough for Bogard to bring his right foot, glowing a bright enough blue to be seen through the thick purple as he spins about and tries to bury his foot into Kain's jawbones.

COMBATSYS: Terry can no longer fight.

Kain doesn't take any chances with attempting to escape Terry's attack in a smooth manner. He knows he's pretty well beat up, and another good blow is probably more than he can take. So when Terry comes bursting through his flames, flipping through the air toward him, Kain leaps bodily to one side, hitting the ground well away from wear Terry does. The difference, of course, being that Kain manages to get back to his feet fairly quickly afterwards.
It takes a few moments for everybody to be sure that Terry is out of the fight, but eventually it becomes clear, and the announcer does what he gets paid for. "The winner, Kain R. Heinlein!" And the crowd goes wild, of course. Not that it would really matter who won; while both men have fans, in general the crowd just wants to see people get the stuffing knocked out of them, and this fight has delivered.
Before he turns to walk off, Kain nods to his fallen opponent. "Good show, there. Obviously I've still got some work to do." Hey, just winning doesn't really matter that much to Kain; the fact that he was having quite a bit of trouble with stopping or deflecting those attacks that he couldn't avoid completely is something that Kain is going to have to work to rectify. And then Kain walks off, somewhat stiffly, as he tries to avoid staggering or limping.

COMBATSYS: Kain has ended the fight here.
