SNF 2005.07 - Rock vs Cammy

Description: Is the lightning fast speed of the Zero Doll enough to outmanuever Rock Howard? In this case, yes, although things started out poorly for Cammy. (Winner: Cammy)

Cammy, huh? Never heard of her.

But, in Rock's mind, that doesn't make her any less of a valid opponent. Of course, with Geese's people booking the matches... Rock's been "surprised" by a practical joke before, but that doesn't change the fact that he's here at the boardwalk, on time for his scheduled fight. Arriving plenty early, Rock -- clad in a pair of black shorts, sneakers, and an orange t-shirt in place of his typical leather outfit -- picked a spot on the ledge of the boardwalk, sat himself down, and, apparently, has been in the midsts of enjoying the sun right up to when the media and audiences started arriving.

But even then, Rock hasn't budged; even though the cameras have been getting set up and the spectators have been taking their places, the blond youth has been curiously relaxed, hanging out on his wooden railing for at least an hour while he waits for his opponent to arrival. Yawning just a little, Rock folds his hands behind his head, leaning back on his makeshift seat. "Hope this fight doesn't take /too/ long. ... I'm dying to hit the beach," he mutters, mostly to himself.

Rock Howard? While Cammy had yet to see the young man in person, she had heard and read various things about his performances in tournaments, and things. He seemed a sub-par fighter, but... it would be best not to be -too- confident.

Life had a way of playing tricks on a person, after all.

In any case, the Zero Doll arrives at the boardwalk just a few minutes before the scheduled starting time, Cammy's clothes... well, inappropriate for the warmer weather. At least on the surface. Draped over her form was a oversized crimson trenchcoat, a equally oversized hood attached to that coat hanging over her head, and shading the slightly reddened features of her face. With measured, calm steps, the Doll passes through the little cordon they had set up to keep the spectators from getting too close, Cammy pausing at the appropriate spot at her side of the fighting area.

Suddenly whipping up a hand to the front of her trenchcoat, Cammy yanks the garment upwards with a sharp movement, darting downwards into a crouch not a split-second afterwards, lightly threading her arms out of the sleeves of the coat so that it doesn't catch on herself, the Doll then taking a crouching step backwards, before rising herself to her full height once again. Now, what she was wearing was more appropriate for the weather... if not appropriate for the younger members of the audience. Her Shadaloo uniform, complete with gauntlets, little cap, and brown boots. In any event, Cammy snaps herself up into a defensive position, clenching her fists before herself, and setting her legs a little more than shoulder width apart, staring across at Rock even as her heavy coat finally lands upon the wood of the boardwalk. "Your designation is Rock Howard?" Cammy asks.

"... uh." Rock spins around on his wooden banister, whirling around to face Cammy. Resting his feet on the ground, Rock quirks a curious brow at the arriving combatant, red eyes locking on to the unusual girl with a little bit of confusion. This is his opponent? Rock hasn't done the same homework that Cammy has; otherwise, he'd know what sort of a match he's in for. Once Cammy's trenchcoat goes flying, Rock actually tumbles halfway back on the banister, very nearly taking a nasty spill. "Uh. Um. Yeah. That's me. Rock Howard." Pushing off and landing on his feet, Rock takes a few steps forward, both hands in his pockets -- a sharp contrast to Cammy's unnervingly ready stance.

"I'm Rock Howard. Just call me Rock," he says, his tone suggesting not so much friendliness but a distaste for being called anything aside from that. It's not a casual request, in any case. "You must be... Cammy," he adds, red eyes not moving from her own. "You, uh, forgot..." No, she probably meant to dress that way. "Nevermind. Anyways. You ready to fight?"

And despite the readiness of her stance, Cammy manages to cant her head to the side in curiousity, even as her fists clench a bit tighter... the somewhat masculine muscles in her arms visibly tensing beneath the long sleeves of her... er... uniform. "Your designation is Rock Howard, correct? To avoid confusion, I will not shorten the pronounciation of your name." Cammy states in spite of Rock's expressed distaste, keeping a watchful eye on her opponent as she extends a foot forward, digging a toe into the material of her coat, before using that foot to slowly drag the coat behind her,the Doll twitching at each of Rock's movements while she does so. The cameras were set up, and beginning to film, then, as the announcer enters the fringe of the cordorned-off area.
"LADIES AND GENTLEMEN!" he calls out, Cammy twitching to glance his way, before her eyes lock back upon Rock. The crowd claps, and cheers scatteredly, before he continues. "Welcome to Saturday Night Fights!" Another round of scattering cheering, as Cammy seems to relax somewhat, already beginning to lightly pace towards the railing. "Dressed in light blue, is Cammy White! And her opponent for today... dressed in orange and black, is..." He checks his little card again. "...Rock Howard! But let's not waste any more time. Let's... FIGHT!" he calls out, the Doll stiffening at those words... but not doing anything else, other than watching, and waiting.

Practically on cue, Rock pulls his hands from his pockets, flexing his fingers and cracking his knuckles in the process. "Good. Thanks for the name thing. Or the designation thing, anyways." Turning sideways and raising his arms, Rock assumes his own fighting stance -- and an unusual one at that; it's not quite like any other martial arts stance there is. Whatever it is that he uses, it's somehow... unique. Custom made? Anything's a possibility. Once the fight start, Rock's legs twitch, muscles tensing to the point where he practically has to stop himself from advancing straight into the fight. Instead, Rock's sneakers dig into the boardwalk, eyes settling on to his opponent as he, too... seems to wait.

"You've got a weird way of speaking. Before we get started... you mind if I ask you how you learned that? You sound almost like... a robot, or something. You've got a weird outfit, too. Not that I haven't seen weirder. Don't mean to pry, or anything. But what's your story? I like to get to know the people I fight with."

Cammy pauses, her brow furrowing with just a bit of confusion as she stares across towards Rock. In her admittedly shaky memory, she cannot recall anyone having the desire to get to know her before a fight. So her paranoid mind believes it was just a trick, to try to get her off guard. Tensing up further, and becoming that much more watchful of the man across from her, Cammy begins to sidestep once again, this time away from the railing... and at the same time, begin to skip towards Rock himself, cutting across him, and just a bit towards him. Just a bit, her eyes flickering over that stance of his.

"If you are asking how I learned to speak, I was..." Cammy begins, but then pauses for a long moment, running her tongue over her lips lightly. No, she couldn't trust Rock. He might be one of those seeking to kill her. "...tutored at home." Cammy says in her slightly high-pitched voice, before quickly adding. "My home. What location was it that you were educated on how to speak?" But still, she didn't seem inclined to advance any further upon Rock... but by no means, did she seem to be lowering her guard at all.

"Right here in Southtown. I'm a Southtown boy, born and bred. Funny coincidence, though -- I was home tutored, too. Sucks, doesn't it? I go to 'real' school, now. Lemme tell you... it's a whole lot better. Trust me on that one." Rock's legs stiffen a little as Cammy approaches, his entire body tense with the fight. But when no attack comes, some of his pressure is relieved. He lets out a held breath, relaxing for just a moment. Anyways... we're gonna start pissing off the spectators if we keep chatting. So, I'm gonna start this off. If you're ready. Alright? Here I come!"

When Rock does finally act, he doesn't pull at punches. The blond takes only a single step forward, right hand held outstretched to his side, before he comes to an abrupt and sudden halt. And it's no wonder -- His palm has begun to emit a faint purple glow, the glow of energy swirling around his hand, gathered from all points of his body. Raw chi, focused for a single purpose. "Repp--UUUUKEN!" Rock clenches his hand into a fist, swinging it low over the ground and hurling a streak of energy towards his opponent at breakneck speed, skimming over the ground by mere inches as it approaches her like a shot.

COMBATSYS: Rock successfully hits Cammy with Reppuken.

Cammy was ready. Very ready in fact. Just not ready enough, evidently. As soon as the bolt of energy streaks towards her, Cammy twitches, as her feet leave the boardwalk as tries to leap her body out of harm's way... but not fast enough. The bolt of lightning-fast energy slams into her, the Reppuken knocking her from the air, to land heavily on her side. Does she stay down? No. Whirling her legs around like in a bad Kung-Fu movie, the Doll uses the momentum of that motion to swing herself up unto her feet, before orienting herself towards Rock, and indrawing a breath.

Something in her brilliantly blue eyes begins to drain away, but...

Desperate to make up the distance lost between them, Cammy bursts into a fast sprint at Rock Howard, and when she closes to within three or so meters of him, she is in the air. Repositioning herself so that she was flying towards him feet-first, the Doll slaps her arms over her chest in such a way, as to begin rapidly spinning. Cammy was hoping to plant her feet in his gut, as well as bathing the belly of the young man in the sparking blue fire-shaped energy, that begins to emit from the soles of her feet, the faux fires licking up to her mid-shin.

"Whoa--" Rock barely has time to react. Cammy's not just quick. "F-Fast!" Planting both his sneakers onto the boardwalk to steady himself, Rock almost immediately discards the notion of dodging. Too much speed to pull something like that off. Both arms raise to shield himself from the blow, apparently seeking to soak up as much of the damage as he can. But a split second before Cammy is about to make contact with her lightning-fast arrow... something changes. Rock's eyes snap straight up over the quickly formed guard of his forearms, red irises dilating with a moment of sudden recognition. It's far less a conscious decision than sheer reflex.

The moment Cammy comes near, Rock instead leaps /forward/ and towards her attack, meeting her head on instead of attempting to endure her wrath. Lunging into the blow instead, Rock flips straight ahead in a circular motion, leg outstretched and destined to make contact with Cammy's thigh while she's in mid-air. "Crack... SHOOT!" That technique -- that's one of Terry Bogard's, a far more reputable fighter than Rock. And it was just executed almost perfectly. Rock still gets struck by the fringes of Cammy's strike, but, hopefully, the exchange was worth the pay-off. Hitting the ground on his feet and sliding backwards, Rock plants one hand on the boardwalk to steady himself, breathing heavy even after only a few exchanges. "You're pretty quick. That's real speed. More than I've got, anyways. And that... that's not normal chi. I've been hit with something like that before."

The whirling strike connects, sending the body of the Doll towards the boardwalk far, far sooner than anticipated. With a small cry, both the energy surrounding her foot ceases to be, disappearing into small motes of white light...but Cammy's still-spiraling body impacts the ground, sending the Doll skidding, bouncing and tumbling away from Rock. But somehow, someway... the Doll retains enough presence of mind to bring herself out of that tumble. Picking a moment of her tumble where her front was facing the ground, Cammy lashes out her hands... first, the hand on her side of the direction she was tumbling as she swings the opposite arm up, the weighted glove serving to stop her spiral... and at the same time, she swings her knees down, ignoring any pain such a manuever might cause as she then lifts her eyes up towards Rock, the body of the Doll slowly sliding to a stop.

For a moment, Cammy pauses there, before she begins to slowly rise to her feet. Although her expression was somewhat strained, when she spoke... her voice seemed to lack any and all emotion, remaining a flat, neutral drone. "...your speed was still sufficient to counteract my manuever." Cammy drones, her eyes flicking over the form of Rock. "The energy I utilize is not unique. I do not believe it to be different than normal chi. You are wrong, Rock Howard." Cammy states, before launching herself into the air again. This time, however... the speed of her previous manuever was dulled. While still fast, it wasn't blindingly so, as the Doll travels towards Rock, the soles of her feet pointing towards the ground as she keeps her body stiff, again slapping her arms over her chest as to cause her to slowly spin in the air. Again, more of that energy begins to cover one of her limbs... her right hand, this time. Landing lightly on her feet, with her side to Rock, and hopefully near enough, Cammy would lash out that flaming hand in a backhanded strike towards the side of Rock's head, the Doll hoping to impact him with the back of the ceramic gauntlet she wore. A sound like "YAAA!" leaves Cammy's lips with the effort of the assault, the Doll's body tensing as she pours power into the blow. Hopefully, Rock would be there to receive it.

Rock             1/------=/=======|=======\=------\1            Cammy

Live and learn, right? Rock's seen a sample of Cammy's fighting style. And, after the first few blows are exchanged, his posture changes -- a few degrees more forward, a little bit more confident. Rock's red eyes have seen something, penetrating Cammy's movements like a laser. "Alright--" Rock grunts, dropping his center of gravity a few degrees as the Zero Doll approaches him like a dart. Slower, this time -- slow enough for him to be ready. Rock repeats his previous movement almost perfectly, whirling to the side and flipping right forward to bring his heel down like a hammer on Cammy's shoulder as she aims to strike him with her gauntlet. His aim is dead-on; and, just as he connects, so does she, but with the force of her blow thoroughly diminished by the blow to her shoulder.

Rock takes his licks and once more retreats a few paces backwards, clearly having felt the force of the blow but still on his feet and ready. "There's a trick to it, y'know," he responds, upright and ready for more. "A way for a slow opponent to move faster than a quick one. Wanna hear it?" he asks, earnestly, holding up his fists. But despite his apparent confidence, Rock's teeth grit. Using a technique once and pulling it off is enough. Using it twice in a row is begging for an opponent to take advantage of the redundancy. Using it a third time? Not going to happen. Not against this opponent, at least. Next time she comes at him, he's going to need to figure this out from a different angle.

Ah, but as they say, the third time is the charm, mmm? In any event, Cammy was swiftly learning that her initial estimation of the young fighter's abilities... was way, -way- off. The blow connects solidly with Cammy's shoulder, the energies surrounding her arm fading off almost the exact instant his foot strikes her shoulder, Cammy driven down to one knee as she hisses a pained-sounding breath between clenched teeth. "Experience carries more weight than retelling." Cammy says in her droning voice. Was that a dare to show her? Perhaps.

In any event, as soon as the last word leaves her lips, Cammy was shooting upwards towards Rock's head, the Killer Bee inverting herself midair, and repositioning herself in an instant. One foot, her right foot, extended in front of herself, aiming for Rock's chin as more of that dark blue energy surrounds her foot, the path of that foot leaving a small trail of 'sparkles'... little white motes that catch the light, fade out, and catch the light more brilliantly until they disappear into nothing. Her other foot, she pulls out of the way, drawing it closer to herself to where her thigh was nearly flat against her belly, one of her arms going below herself, as the other reaches skyward. The move was fast. Very fast. Perhaps the fastest the Zero Doll could offer, normally.

COMBATSYS: Rock endures Cammy's Cannon Spike.

"... No way..." That's fast. That's way too fast. Nobody's supposed to be /able/ to move that fast. Forget about a counter-attack, or even evasion. There's nothing Rock can do for this one except grin and bear it. He doesn't even have the time to defend himself; the most he's able to manage is to brace himself for the hit. The combination of energy and sheer physical power strikes Rock squarely on the chin, hurling his entire body backwards like a ragdoll. But even as the entire world goes momentarily white, between the aftershock of Cammy's blow and the shimmering energy that she seems to generate, Rock's thinking. Responding. Which is why Cammy might be surprised when Rock reaches up to grab her ankle with both hands.

In an instant, Rock's eyes snap open, blood red flashing momentarily as he squeezes, anchoring his opponent to that spot. Taking the blow was worth it, at least for this opportunity. "You're really something, aren't you? But I'll let you in on a secret... the trick to taking out a fast opponent? Make them come to you!" Hopefully immobilizing Cammy with his iron grip, Rock darts forward with one foot, looking to deliver what seems to be a single, rather mundane kick...

Cammy was immobilizing... or at least that leg was. Unfortunately for Rock, Cammy knew how to work her way out of holds. Sensing, more than seeing the incoming kick, Cammy folds her arms across her chest, and swings herself to one side to avoid the kick. Mid-swing, her other foot snaps out a kick of her own towards the wrist of the hand that holds her ankle, loosening Rock's grip on her foot long enough for her to yank away from Rock with that foot, tearing free from that grip and using that momentum both to backflip away from Rock, and land lightly on her feet a little to one side of the man.

Hopefully, he was still overextended, and off-balance from the attack. Hopefully she could catch him before he hits her with something else. A lot of hopefuls run through Cammy's mind, as she drops down into a crouch, and leaps high into the air, hoping to land directly upon Rock's shoulder, a thigh atop of each. Should she land there, she would squeeze her thighs together to trap Rock's neck between them, throw her arms over her shoulder... and fling herself backwards in a strange sort of backflip, hoping to both yank Rock off of his feet, and carrying him along to slam the top of his head against the wood of the boardwalk below them both.

"Damn!" Rock's hands begin to blaze with the energy he needs to defend himself, but it's too little, too late. Before he can expend the chi he's gathered, he finds himself in an awkward position -- between Cammy's thights, namely. There's no time to react, or to defend himself; instead, Rock finds himself hurled straight into the boardwalk, rebounding once, messily, and then tumbling a few feet to a total stop. This time, Rock definitely felt that blow. Once he finds his way into a crouch, the fighter wipes some blood trickling from his nose, eyes leveling on his opponent. "So much for ending the fight quick. Damn. This is a bad position..." He muttering, mostly to himself. Translation: What now, smart guy?

Indeed it would be a bad position. Without turning around to see the effect her attack had, Cammy gathers her feet beneath herself, and leaps away from Rock, landing lightly upon one of the posts of the railing. Whipping around in a manner that causes her pigtails to whip behind her, the Doll comes unto a deep crouch atop that post, snapping her hands down to take ahold of the post for balance, looking all the world like a gargoyle. For a long moment, she just pauses, her gaze fixed upon the form of her crouching fighter across from her, her eyes slowly widening.

Inside her mind, she was thinking, calculating, watching every subtle movement, every change she could feel wafting from the young man's mind, until... at the end of the second second... Lock On. Exploding from that deep crouch, Cammy lunges at least four or five meters high into the air, making minute changes to her flight path... moments before she sticks out one foot, pointed at a downward angle. Those sensitive would likely be able to feel the intense amount of energy she was channeling, at the moment. Those less sensitive would be able to see in just a half-moment, as her legs seemingly explode into flame, the Doll streaking downwards from the sky like a rocket, hoping to impact the chest of the crouching Rock. That would just be the first stage.

If Rock should fly backwards from that blow, Cammy would roll beneath him, and jab both flaming feet into the small of his back, propelling him upwards with that double kick, before rolling off to the side. And before gravity could reclaim it's hold upon Rock? Cammy would be leaping into air by his side, whipping around in a imitation of Terry's attack... and hoping to drive a flaming foot into his belly, sending him groundwards once again, as the intense energy begins to fade from her legs. That was the plan, at least.

It's a whole lot of firepower for such a small girl to unleash. Rock soars back and finds himself being batted back and forth by the multiple attacks of Cammy's. But the Zero Doll will notice something a little off, almost right from the get-go: In the split-second before he was struck, Rock's managed to bring his arms up over his face and his legs into his gut, essentially compressing himself into a single, steady blocking posture in mid-air. Each of Cammy's consecutive strikes hit him one after the other, but he's able to eat the majority of the damage without falling. It isn't a fun situation to be in, but it could be a whole lot worse.

Once the onslaught is over, Rock lands on his feet, sliding back several paces. The moment his feet find purchase, Rock forces himself back into action. He's stationary for only an instant before his entire body rushes straight ahead like a torpedo, one elbow held forward and seeking Cammy's nose as he moves at a ridiculous speed -- speed comparable, at least, to Cammy's own, at least for this short dash. Rock's getting a little desperate; but it's when one is desperate, after all, that they become the most dangerous.

That was ridicously fast. Staring evenly at the incoming Rock as she slowly rises to her feet once more, the Doll watches the incoming dash... and just when it would hit... Cammy wasn't there. No, she neatly sidesteps, and in the same fluid motion, snaps up a knee to jab Rock in the gut, her knee sinking into his belly at the exact moment his fist was to hit her face.

Cammy was faster, at least in this instance.

Dropping her knee from his gut, the Zero Doll flicks her chin in Rock's direction somewhat as she raises her hands to a more defensive posture, her little blue cap somehow still on her head. By no means was she unscratched from this exchange... but for the moment, at least, her stance was unwavering.

Rock drops into a crouch, coughing a little bit; she knocked all of the air out of his lungs. Damn. But Rock's not quite down -- at least, not yet. Even as he finds himself kneeling, rather nearly humbled by the surpassingly agile girl, his hands begin to... steam? No, not quite steam. Energy. More chi -- massive amounts of chi, in fact. "Heh," he rasps, a little bit of blood in his mouth. "No matter how this ends, 'Cammy White," he says, mimicing her own manner of speech. "It was a good one." Rock stands slowly, the purple energy around his hands gathering and swirling faster and faster. "Whoever wins, we'll have earned our pay, that's for sure--"

No sooner does he finish than does Rock's plan go into action. Rock swings his arm, directing another Reppuken towards Cammy -- but the moment he does, he's already running, darting far to the right while he's still collecting the rest of his chi. "Double... REPPUKEN!" The two blasts, staggered apart by a few seconds, each fly towards Cammy, cutting off her options for escape by coming in from two different directions.

For one such as Cammy, attacking from two different directions tended to make things more difficult for her... but she had many directions to dodge in. Throwing herself forward as the twin bolts of energy streak towards her position, Cammy throws herself into the empty space between them, curling up into a tight, tight ball, and hitting the ground in a roll. Once, twice, three times does Cammy roll, before turning the direction of her roll away from Rock, a single roll going that way before she explodes out of it, the Zero Doll landing lightly upon her feet as she skids away from Rock, her body already pointed towards him.

But before too much time could pass, she was sprinting towards him again, her eyes narrowing, the Doll choosing not to respond to his words. For now, at least. Instead, when she closes to within a certain distance, she lunges forward, jabbing her feet out in front of herself, and slamming her arms across her chest in the familiar way that makes her spiral. This was a move Rock had seen before. The spiraling Doll seeks to plant her feet within the other blonde's gut, more of her energy beginning to encase her feet. A bit of overkill? Not from where Cammy was watching.

"Damn..." That's Rock's quote of the night. After a certain point, the fight just turned against him; once his Double Reppuken is handily evaded, it's over for Rock. All the fight goes out of him, and once he gets nailed by the Spiral Arrow, the blond soars backwards and hits the ground and slides a few paces before coming to an eventual halt. He's down long enough for the fight to be declared over, at least, before, he eventually props himself up on his elbows, grunting. He's not ready to speak, just yet.

The increased cheering, and the announcer screaming Cammy's victory went unnoticed by the Doll. Mostly. Almost nervously, she twitches in the direction of the crowd as her focus begins to shift off of Rock, the Doll beginning to back towards the banister, the pace of her breathing increasing as her eyes flick all along the crowd, before... she falls to one knee, her left hand reaching for the trenchcoat she had dropped earlier, her attention resettling upon Rock... at least until she begins to slip the trenchcoat back unto her body. But nonetheless, she begins to speak, her voice muffled by the layers of clothing, "My estimation of your fighting ability was incorrect, Rock Howard." Cammy states, before her head appears beneath the hood, the Doll blinking twice as she settles the coat upon her shoulders.

COMBATSYS: Cammy has ended the fight here.

"Yeah?" The blond grunts a little bit, as he claws his way to his feet. Medics are already on the way to the ring to pick him up and do what they will with him. "I hope that's a compliment," he says, with a grin. Almost immediately, however, Howard tumbles backwards, legs giving out from under him. He's caught, fortunately, by a few medics with a well-placed gurney. He's going to have to be carted off, apparently. "We'll have to do that again, sometime-- I don't think I've had that much fine in awhile!" he says, as he's being hauled off. "Hey! We'll have to meet up some time and schedule a rematch, sometime. Don't get cocky, because I never say die!"
