Neo League 0001 - NL#0062: Mei Lin vs Mint

Description: Mei Lin and Mint battle it out in an isolated seaside cove! Totally metal fists against a totally metal defense! (Winner: Mint)

Minal Panesh has some leave banked up. She was planning on spending it at home, but her parents were finally at a point in their lives that they'd decided to go off on a cruise together. After raising three hellions to adult age, they definitely deserve some time alone!

But... this means Mint has some time to explore the world on her own, and learn a little more about herself. The pint-sized pugilist has acclimated to her prosthetic hands, and is all set to try out this 'fighting' thing, outside of the confines of a gymnasium or Marine base. And what better place to connect with the elements than in the midst of a private resort?

Especially one that just happens to cater to the "Neo League" fighting series. Minal -- or Mint, as most people know her -- turns the fight card over in her gargantuan metal gauntlets, peering back at the fight official who handed it to her. "I guess I gotta start somewhere, huh?"

Mint follows the official, who leads her out towards a sheer rock cliff jutting out into the sea. Her metal fingers twitch as she runs her hands through their pre-fight diagnostics. It probably looks a little creepy, but Minal thinks nothing of it!

"So where's my opponent at?" she asks the official, looking around curiously.

COMBATSYS: Mint has started a fight here.

Without anyone to train and learn how to fight in a real situation, Mei Lin has been travelling around the world, never staying in one place too long and always seeking out potential tournaments or martial artist leagues. It allowed him to pay for his expenses. Hardly being a 'great' name in the tournaments, he earned just enough to live a very 'modest' lifestyle.

By the time Mint makes her way to the fighting stage, Mei Lin has already been here enjoying the scenery... Or so it seems. His bare feet are touching the ground, his toes tapping the rock idly as he stands near the edge of the cliff, eyes closed and letting the breeze blows into his face. For him, just a feet steps further leads to the great beyond into nothingness. Once he feels the official coming closer with another person, Mei Lin turns on his heels to face Mint and he takes a few steps closer, away from the cliff. He opens his eyes and smiles, his gaze lost as he was staring at some ghost somewhere near Mint. "Right here," He says after he heard her, "May the best fighter wins... Prepare yourself to face the mighty iron mountains of Hun-Garr,"

Mei Lin gets ready : low horse-straddling stance, tiger claws ready with his elbows right by waist. The moment the official announces the beginning of the fight, Mei Lin lets a kai shout out of his throat and stomps the ground rapidly. His mighty smack against the rock caused two large boulders to rise up and he spins on his heels to kick them both, hurling them into Mint's direction.

COMBATSYS: Mei Lin has joined the fight here.

Mint blinks back at the voice. She'd obviously -looked- towards the edge of the cliff, but hadn't been able to discern her opponent from the surrounding environs. Ah well, it's no matter -- the official had drawn his hand towards Mei Lin just a moment after the answer rang out.

"Oh! Hi! Nice to meet you!" She snaps a quick military salute, before realizing that maybe the Asian would respond better to a bow -- so she does so.

Halfway through, Mint wonders if Chinese people bow. Would that be an offense? Ah, too late now!

"May the best fighter win, yeah! Prepare... um..." Mint blinks rapidly, before raising both her metal fists for emphasis. "... for the power of my KNUCKS!"

Mint isn't sure what to make of the horse stance, though. By itself, it's a terrible stance to attack with: very static, and yet, it's easy to knock someone over in it. But then rocks spring forth from the ground, and Mint's eyes go wide. "Hey, that's pretty awesome..." she gapes, not fully in the mindset just yet.

By the time Mint realizes she should probably dive out of the way of the rocks, it's too late -- her forehead gets beaned by the first and takes the second one square in the chest, bowling her over and sending her tumbling head over heels. Luckily, it's towards the shore and not the water!

The one thing about Minal, though... she gets knocked down, and she gets right back up again. Her forehead showcasing an angry red mark from the rock, she nonetheless wears a smile. "Alright, for real this time! Here I come!" And with a sudden roar of air turbines, the diminutive boxer takes off like a rocket -- her fist leading the way, destined for an encounter with Mei Lin's face! "OOOOH-RAAAAAH!"

COMBATSYS: Mei Lin endures Mint's Straight Punch.

After the rapid spinning kicks meant to hurl those rocks in Mint's direction, Mei Lin reassumed his combat stance. He might not be able to see the impact, but his ears are keen enough to hear them land on Mint and his senses allow him to feel her getting knocked down.

He doesn't see the result of his attack, but Mei Lin braces for Mint's attack, standing his ground as she quickly recovers and dashes off in his direction. Mint was right about something when it comes to Mei Lin's stance : it doesn't allow her much flexibility or agility. However, Mei Lin has a perfect balance in this stance. His feet are rooted into the ground and he meets Mint's fist with his face.

Mei Lin thought she would be able to absorb the hit without flinching but -- Mint's fist was quite larger than she had anticipated. Much larger for someone with Mint's diminutive size. A loud growl of pain escapes Mei Lin's throat, his feet grinding against the rock and sliding back, breaking Mei Lin's iron stance.

His right cheek is all swollen and red, his lip bleeding, but he's managed to hold his ground, staying close enough to retaliate much more rapidly than Mint might have anticipated. He swings his right fist for Mint's midsection, followed by his left and then a quick elbow smash. He finishes this with a foot stomp that causes a stone spike to rise from the ground rapidly in an attempt to smash Mint away, the pilar of stone quickly crumbling away shortly afterward.

COMBATSYS: Mint interrupts Iron Dragon Fist from Mei Lin with Attack of Opportunity.

Mei Lin          0/-------/-======|=====--\-------\0             Mint

Mint is small, and she stays light on her feet, but the fact remains that the Marine corporal hauls around two 25-pound gauntlets and a 30-pound backpack without even breaking a sweat. Her stance certainly doesn't -suggest- that she's carrying that much weight, so Mei Lin can be excused for thinking otherwise!

What Mint does not expect, though, is that Mei Lin would just stand there for the abuse. Most people try to move out of the way -- Minal had -expected- him to! But to see the fighter skid backwards across the rock ledge without toppling over... "Wow, solid..." blurts out Mint, hopping backwards with wide eyes. She rubs her arm at the base of her gauntlets, wincing somewhat -- even -punching- her opponent's iron defense seems to have chafed a bit.

Then... then Mint notices the peculiar coloration to Mei Lin's eyes. And realizes... "... Wait, are you bl-" She doesn't get to ask her question, so quick is the rejoinder. Mint crumples from the first hit to her midsection, and stumbles backwards from the second...

But Mint is quick on the uptake this time. Grinding her teeth together to silence the groan from her throat, she twists out of the way of the elbow strike. Grinding her heel into the ground, she shoves herself forward sharply, forcibly entering Mei Lin's personal space to slam an uppercut into his jaw -- as the stone spike misses her by mere fractions of an inch!

Those gauntlets definately counfound Mei Lin. His senses definately don't warn him about the density or the actual threat does gauntlets represent and the first hit he got daze him slightly, not enough to break his offensive but Mint's followup this time break his stance.

Right after his foot slam on the ground, Mint's uppercut catches him fair and square under his chin, unrooting him and sending knocking him away a few feet. A second hit to the head, no matter how stubborn and hard headed you are tends to make you see little stars. He falls ungracefully on his back with a loud thud, splattering on the ground for a moment. He groans in protest, his face and jaws aching as he slowly stumbles to his feet. He's never seen anyone with such a tiny frame hit so hard with their fist.

"Huh... The mighty iron mountain's crumbling," He says with an hint of humor about himself, "I've never seen someone so small hit so hard... At least, being able to break through the Hun-Garrian stance like that.."

He tries to refocus and steady himself before he attacks again, though for Mint, it's not really that obvious considering he seems to be starring some place else. He lunges foward and uses all of his weight into a powerful palm strike aimed for Mint's breasts.

COMBATSYS: Mint dodges Mei Lin's Strong Punch.

Minal occasionally catches grief from people who think her heavy gauntlets are cheating. In the past she's dealt with the criticism by quietly noting that she'd remove her gauntlets if her opponents remove their hands. Argument tends not to proceed much beyond that point.

Mint draws her fists back, breathing out a measured breath. "Heh, it's not so easy! I might have to look into this Hun-Gar stuff. ... Maybe after I appease my hun-ger!"

It should be easy for Mei Lin to follow the sound of Mint's voice -- and in fact, the boxing gearhead is counting on that, keeping her steps light and nimble as she hops off to the side. When Mei Lin's palm slams close, Mint's ready for it, leaping backwards rapidly. "H-hey, where were you aiming, anyway?" she quips with amused tone, strafing off to the left.

When she lunges in close this time, though, it's with an aim of latching those gigantic gloves of her around Mei Lin's midsection. And if she manages to gain a hold of her opponent, she'd aim to rip his feet from the earth and toss him head-over-heels towards the shore! It's not -exactly- a boxer move, and it wouldn't work against a larger opponent -- but experimentation is the name of the game in this fight! "Ooo-rah!"

COMBATSYS: Mei Lin instinctively blocks Mint's Medium Throw.

When you can't rely on sight, you have to compensate with your other senses. Mei Lin's hearing is much more accute than most due to this, though he doesn't solely rely on his audition. He can feel Mint's movement against the ground and feel her body through his tremor sense. Unnoticed echoes but for Mei Lin's sensitive feet, he feels the slightly impact against the ground and it resonates through her body, allowing him to have a general idea of Mint's body size and her movements.

Once Mint latches into Mei Lin's clothing, the young man focuses on planning his landing rather than struggling. His connection with the ground is basically his eyes and it requires all of his focus to try and land correctly. Fortunately it pays off as he rolls with it, landing perfectly and rolling into his back a few feet away. He rolls into a crouched position and turns on his heels to face Mint. "Where was I aiming...?" He asks with a blink, "Your chest, I don't get it..." He tries to shake off the thought for now and rushes at Mint's side and attempts to grab her so he can shove her roughly against his knee as it rises up for her midsection.

COMBATSYS: Mint interrupts Combo Grapple from Mei Lin with Foxtrot Oscar.

Mei Lin          1/-----==/=======|=======\-------\0             Mint

Mint smiles as Mei Lin rolls out of her attack. The corporal has mostly been in boxing matches lately -- this sort of fight reminds her of the street brawls she used to be a part of all the time! She's grinning, though she realizes that Mei Lin probably wouldn't be able to see that smile. So she makes sure to carry the positive vibes through her playful tone: "Yeah, but... it's awfully forward of you! We've only just met!"

For a moment, Mint considers getting out of the way of that strike, but then another idea occurs to her: she raises her knee. As Mei Lin grapples, the kung-fu artist might find that it's harder to knee through the boxer's shin than directly into her midsection. Blocked! Though the tiny Indian will definitely feel -that- bruise in the morning...

But the true danger of the grapple isn't the block, it's that Mint is using the close proximity to her -own- advantage, grappling Mei Lin's shoulder in exchange with her left hand. And once she gets an opening, Mint will slam her reinforced fist against Mei Lin's solar plexus one, two, three, four times in rapid succession, taking full advantage of the opportunity!

"Whew!" calls out Mint as she breaks the hold, panting heavily as she hops from one foot to another. "You're quite a workout! It's been a long time since I've fought someone who wasn't a boxer too..."

Grapples have never been the force of Hun-Garr kung-fu and Mei Lin is reminded of this fact the painful way as Mint uses the proximity and grapple to her advantage, reversing it.

For some reason, Mei Lin clings to Mint's clothings when she smashes him the first time, though every smack she delivers to her chest ends up making his grasp falters until the last one. By that time, it's weakened enough to allow Mint to push her way out and break the hold easily.

Mei Lin staggers back a few steps, one arm clenching for his torso. He seems to be struggling for breath, but also wincing in pain from the succession of punches to this particular weak spot. "Can't say... I've ever fought two persons... With the same fighting style here..." He admits through two breathes. His cheeks redden a bit though it might be hardly noticeable, "Also... Don't think any ill... before, it's... The tiger claw... Really... No gropping or anything..."

Opting for something a bit safer, Mei Lin joins his fingers together into arrows and he assaults Mint with a backhand aimed at her face while his other hand smack her midsection. He quickly follows up with his first hand to smack her just below her throat with his joined fingers.

COMBATSYS: Mint blocks Mei Lin's Stone Crane Fury.

Mint is -quite- impressed at how resilient and steadfast Mei Lin is in the face of total punchination! "Aww, that's adorable!" she comments with a musical tone. "I was just teasin', don't let it get to ya!" Growing up in the suburbs west of Metro City, Minal expects most people to have thick skin, both figuratively and literally -- though, naturally, she'd come across some bookworms in college who wouldn't know a joke if it jumped out and bit them. So she's pleased that Mei Lin seems to have -some- sense of humor!

When the backhand comes out, one metal gauntlet swoops in to ward it off. The lower strike is blocked by her other gauntlet; Mei Lin should get a definite sense of hitting one of the cylindrical projections running along the length of the metal glove. Definitely nothing -human- about that. The knifehand that follows is met by an open palm as Mint hops backwards, driven back by the sheer force of her opponent. "Wow, you don't hit light, either! I guess it's about time..."

The turbines had calmed down earlier -- only really kicking in for that one burst of energy. But now the three turbines spin up: one on each glove, one on her backpack -- and it's almost deafening.

"Hope you're ready!" And with a sudden high-pitched whine, Mint ...

Disappears? She's rocketing past Mei Lin, that much is sure, but her feet are barely touching the ground!

Her heel can be heard biting into the rock a fair distance away, though, as she drives a harsh pivot, letting her air turbines carry her around in a sharp circle. She rockets back towards Mei Lin with rocket-powered six-punch barrage aimed at knocking the kung-fu fighter over!

But it's not quite over there though, as Mint digs her heels in once more, redirecting her thrust to launch a furious uppercut into Mei Lin's midsection, forceful enough to drive her high into the air!

COMBATSYS: Mint blitzes into action and acts again!

Mei Lin spent most of his youth within the walls of a rather traditional housing in China -- he's only got in touch with the humor of the rest of the world and realize how things are different outsite. It's a true marvel to be able to see all of that and also the cultural differences.

Mint's quick movements are rather unsettling for Mei Lin as he's hardly able to feel her presence around him. His alertness and keen senses allow him to react in time, twisting around to meet Mint's charge. His hands are quick to move, sweeping off the rapid punches aimed at her, deflecting every blow away from her before they can hit her. It forces her to stagger back nonethless to avoid taking any harm from it.

The moment Mei Lin believes he has an opening though, he takes his chance to counter. He slams his foot into the ground, hurling his fist for Mint's with all of his might about the same moment Mint does with her own uppercut. Fortunately for her, Mint's agility and speed surpasses Mei Lin's one on this stunning her with another uppercut and shattering her defenses, breaking her assault.

The powerful uppercut drives Mei Lin into the air, sending him flying off a short distance before he lands back and flails, crashing into the sandy beach.

His movements are slow but he slowly tries to get back on his feet, panting softly. He has to support himself on his knee to take his breath back. It felt like he was done for, but he manages to find the strength to still rise, "Huh... You're good but... It's not over yet..." He says.

It may not be over yet, but the fact remains that the ever-smiling Minal Panesh is trying to downplay the amount of pain she's in by simply ignoring it. Adrenaline got her into this "fighting" thing and it's going to power her through it!

The pint-sized pugilist takes a moment to make sure her opponent is okay -- there's no sense in continuing the fight if Mei Lin is down, after all! But once the kung-fu artist stands, Mint flashes a broad smile and chirps her assent: "Great! Looks like we've -both- still got some fire left in us!"

And without any further warning, Mint launches herself forward! She lands about five feet short of Mei Lin, but then she continues hurling her momentum into another stride, snapping out with a right hook into Mei Lin's midsection! "Hhhraaaa!"

COMBATSYS: Mint successfully hits Mei Lin with Hook Punch.

At this point in the fight, Mei Lin had no other choice but to rely on Hun-Garr's Iron Body techniques in order to stay still and resist Mint's attacks. It was merely delaying the inevitable, but it might buy him a dozens seconds that could turn the tide in his favor.

There's always that glimmer of hope, after all. It's not over until one of them his splattered on the ground.

Planting his feet in the sand, Mei Lin takes his low horse straddling stance, adjusting his breathing as he focuses his chi in his body and waits for Mint's attack. When Mint lunges at her, he buffs his chest a bit, unable to react in time but her punch smashes right into his midsection and Mei Lin hardly flinches. Her metal fist meets his iron muscles : Mei Lin's inner focus allowing him to delay the pain and afflictions for now

He moves both of his fist behind, taking a swing. He hurls them toward Mint, attempting to force himself on her and break her guard by overpowering her physically with his might, "Kyaaaa!"

COMBATSYS: Mei Lin successfully hit Mint with Fierce Punch.

Mint's eyes widen as Mei Lin again just stands there and take it. She'd make some comment to that, but her fists are reverberating so much from the impact, the feedback is starting to give her a headache.

Stepping back to recoup her wits, she splays her fingers out to either side, attempting to keep from tipping over. Minal has a lot of experience fighting people who want to hit her with their hands. But less experience with people using Mei Lin's exact style -- the kind who =don't budge= when you hit them, and just come right back swinging. Mint is all about momentum, and Mei Lin is apparently really adept at shoving that momentum right back in her face -- knuckle sandwich style! As the boxer tries to leap backwards, the inordinate weight of her own gauntlets slows her down -- but Mei Lin's powerful punches help her with that, blasting her off-balance and knocking her to the ground.

She wheezes, a weird sound coming from her lungs. Did she crack a rib? Mint plants her palms on the ground and pushes herself back to her feet, with no small amount of effort: "Ugh.. *wheeze* it's like... punching the side... of a bank vault... ahaha..."

And then her gauntlets begin to light up, like some highschooler's entry-level sedan tricked out with a brand new neon underbody kit and windshield washer LEDs. It's pretty gaudy, but the lights playing off Mint's bruised features may look a bit... creepy? "Let's finish this!" she cries, leaping forward again. With the water to her back, she leaps forward, aiming to attack not with her fists -- but with a dashing -knee-. Should she connect with that, she'd grapple onto Mei Lin with her left gauntlet and ram a machine-gun rat-a-tat-tat with her right fist, breathing out with each strike in hopes that her relentless series of underhand punches can break through her opponent's iron defense!

Mei Lin's fatigue was taking its toll and the pain she was delaying started to backlash and echoes in his body. His midsection burns from the sensation of Mint's gauntlet shortly after he has driven her away and Mei Lin winces visibly a few seconds later.

It was a wicked way to prolong his suffering, but it allowed him to take more of a beating that way... A bit masochist one might say, but it sometimes paid off. He adjusts his stance afterward, ready to take on another flurry of Mint's mighty gauntlets.

He doesn't move out of the way when Mint lunges at him : the pain in his body and exertion wouldn't allow him to move much at this point anyway. He remains steadfast against the knee smash, summing up all of his will to take on the blow and the following series of punches back and forth. The only feat he manages to pull off through this slaughter is hold his ground against Mint's beating, taking it without flinching.

The couple of last smacks though finally breaks through her focus, causing him to scream in pain as he's forced to stagger back a few steps. It was too late for him, he had reached his limit and he knows it but still -- Mei Lin smacks the ground with one foot, causing hardened sand to blast up in an attempt to smash Mint's midsection before Mei Lin crumbles to the ground coughing up some blood along with it.

And by the way he actually falls right after performing a move like this, it was obvious Mint had managed to finish him off and he wouldn't be raising up any time soon.

Minal can tell that Mei Lin isn't older than she is, and doesn't seem to have -that- much more muscle mass. So how is it that Mei Lin is able to endure a thirty-pound metal gauntlet being slammed into him so many times -- and not only -survive- it but barely seem to even budge from it? It must be MAGIC. Or maybe chi or something. In either case, it's some ability that the corporal doesn't know about and wouldn't mind finding more about.

Mint sets her jaw as she hammers one punch after another into Mei Lin, using the grapple as leverage to dampen the impact of her own punches. But when she notices Mei Lin falter, Mint springs free, sensing that she's reached the breaking point. When her opponent stomps the ground, Mint has a pretty good idea of what might come from it and dives headlong off to the side, tucking her gauntlets against her as she tumbles to relative safety just beyond an inverted hailstorm of hardened sand.

As her boots hit the ground, the hypercharged Mint is just about to spring back to unload another volley -- but it would seem that it's not necessary. As the fight official moves in to assess Mei Lin's fighting condition, Mint lowers her fists casually to either side, her chest heaving with each breath as she finally acknowledges the ragged state of her body.

"... So is there like a correspondence course I can take in Hung Gar or something? This looks -badass!="

Alas, Mei Lin doesn't seem in much condition to reply for now. He lies on the ground and just rests, though maybe he could hand her a flier about Hun Gar sometime... Or who knows, teach her a trick or two.

The official says something or other. But with the blood pounding in her arteries, it's hard to really pay attention: the words just go over like blah-blah-blah as her hand is held up. Mint's pretty elated to have her first real victory in the Neo League, to be sure! And she'll definitely remember to get in touch with Mei Lin... sometime -after- the wounds heal, to be sure.
