Description: Its a Neo League Battle! Overlooking Loch Ness, the (underwhelming) castle plays host to the current League No. 1, Rainbow Mika, and 6th seed, Gertrude. What starts out friendly enough soon turns into a frustrated battle where technical skill is pitted against showmanship, with the final outcome: A TIE?! What kind of outcome is that? Despite all of the motion going on in the Neo League, there's one thing that hasn't managed to change from its first fight: Rainbow Mika continues to sit firmly at the peak as points leader with a giant target painted on her. Even with her last two fights ended in defeat, she's still got a little room to breathe... but there's no way she can just sit idly.
So, it was right with a message sent to the Neo League coordinators to set up a match for her. The ticket was sent right to her and now she's gone all the way to Scotland for her next match. And where better to film a fight in Scotland than the castle overlooking the Loch Ness itself?
Honestly, there's probably a lot of better places to film... but this one sounds more impressive.
In reality, though, the castle has fallen to pieces. Most of the walls are gone, and while one might expect a courtyard to be a flat enough spot, even in disrepair, Urquhart Castle is built on hills, leaving a completely uneven fighting area to be set up with a mixture of hilly grass, rocky debris, and paved tourist pathways marking it.
Regardless of the fact that it completely fails to live up to being a proper fighting ring, Rainbow Mika is ready to rise up to the challenge. Despite the fact that its the middle on winter in Scotland, she's still only dressed in her usual wrestling attire, standing near the fight coordinator as she waits for her opponent to arrive.
Gertrude has slipped a couple of places in the rankings, but she's enthusiastic about the prospect of getting back in the ring herself. Life has been pretty stressful for her lately. The threat of death, the constant stress... being ambushed in a coffee shop... it hasn't been a very good Christmas, to say the least. Now that the new year is here, though, maybe things will start to turn around?
She's bought herself a souvenir Loch Ness T-shirt, with a smiling Nessie in bright yellow and cheerful colors (http://www.thegreenwellyshop.co.uk/images/uploads/gift-shop/spike-t-shirts/kids-loch-ness-Y2.jpg), a tam o'shanter perched jauntily on her head, and a kilt. She's dressed up for the part, at least!
"Hey there!" She says with a smile, "Nice to meet you, Rainbow. I'm Gertrude. I've been looking forward to taking you on for a while!" She adjusts her glasses, moving to the position the cameramen indicate. "Want to go share a haggis when we're through? I'm told it is an unforgettable experience."
Honestly, there are very few professional wrestlers who can reasonably comment about how somebody else chooses to dress for a fight. Certainly they might make some comment about whether or not a particular outfit is appropriate from a utility perspective or might get in the way, but when spandex and boots are primary portions of your wardrobe, you can't call someone else garrish.
Not that Rainbow Mika would (even if Gertrude's outfit absolutely is).
"It's nice to meet you Gertrude. Let's hope we give the fans something that will stick with them." MIka offers as she holds out a hand to her opponent, a proper friendly handshake. As she does she gives a quick nod. "Sure, sounds like fun." Honestly, given how much food she has to consume as part of her wrestler's diet, a stuffed sheep stomach is hardly the weirdest thing she's ever eaten.
Gertrude nods her head, shaking the other girl's hand. She's actually pretty glad to be fighting someone her own age! The last official fights (and some of the unofficial ones, come to that) have been against people much younger than her... and have still emerged with her winding up on her ass most of the time. At least if Mika wins here, she won't feel faintly silly about that - heck, Mika is the top of the League, there's absolutely no shame to a loss at all!
Stretching as she waits for Mika to return to her starting position. The cameras are rolling, the fighters are in position.

It's literally the reason why everyone is here.
Two fighters face down in the middle of a broken Scottish castle in front of cameras for the entertainment of the masses and the profits of a major corporation run by a crazy old man who just wants people to fight each other.
Mika has begun to settle into proper ring mode, letting Rainbow Mika pull up all the way to the surface. Thoughts of a meal following the fight are sent aside as she begins to settle on the here and now, trying to get a feel for the way the fighting spirit ebbs and flows about the current arena and focusing in on her opponent.
And then the fight begins and Rainbow Mika is off like a flash, clearing the open ground between herself and Gertrude in a flash as she lunges up and tries to catch Gertrude around the neck with her right arm while planting her right hand on the other woman's chest to haul her up vertical on her shoulder. Allowing only enough hesitation for the drama to build, the wrestler then suddenly drops backward, balancing Gertrude the entire way as she slams the top of her head in the ground.

Gertrude is similar to Mika in some ways. By the time Mika is coming in for her, she's putting her fears and stresses out of her mind, trying to find the comfortable space where she can just focus on the interplay of fists, feet, grapples and holds. The taller German woman assumes her stance, feet spread slightly apart and as Mika rushes forwards, she steps into the grapple. The arm wraps around her neck, but it is her arm which Mika meets, and with the combined forward motion, Gertrude is able to shake off the grip on her head and push the other hand away before she can be swept up into the air. One of the benefits of her larger size; it can be tough for smaller fighters to just throw her around, even if she doesn't take it to the extremes some of the more notable names in fighting manage to pull off!
Completing the motion, Gertrude spins on her heel, one sneaker-clad foot aiming to impact firmly with Mika's jaw, the woman's attacks might not be very flashy compared to Mika, but they are well-practiced, and that's what she's relying on here. In some ways, its just nice to fall back into the rhythm of a fight - there's no life-or-death struggle here, no great mystery... and that is very freeing!

The first stage of a fight is rarely where things get interesting... at least as far as Rainbow Mika is concerned. This is the part of the fight where many people are conservative, taking time to get a feel for their opponent before rushing into things.
In Mika's case, this is the part of the fight where she's making certain that the crowd is entertained. You always have to start off big.
Of course, it doesn't quite work out as she'd planned it, but that's hardly the most important thing right now. Right now she's got to worry about a kick aiming for her face, which she handles by whipping her arm up and catching the blow on her bicep as she braces both hands together at her bicep. It's enough to avoid getting tread marks on her face, if nothing else.
From here, Rainbow Mika responds by lunging forward at Gertrude, trying to grab her by the shoulders and yank her down into a bent over position to catch the taller woman's head between her thighs. From here, Mika grabs hold of the German's waist and hauls up, loosening the grip of her legs to haul Gertrude up until her legs end up on Mika's shoulders... and then she simply throws Gertrude back first onto the ground.

Gertrude has a vague appreciation for the crowd; she likes to know that they are there, and the one time she's fought in front of a really big crowd, it was a rush like nothing else. But the similarities to Mika end there, really. Gertrude does her best to be cautious throughout a fight; she doesn't go out of her way to provide flashy spectacles. But as Mika comes in for the second grab, Gertrude provides one anyway.
She's grabbed and yanked down, and her right hand curls into a fist by her hip. As Mika goes to grab her waist, that's the moment she seizes her opportunity, and Gertrude twists free. The movement is almost pure muscle memory to her, coming up insanely fast and hammering her full weight into a punch which slams her knuckles right into Mika's chin.
Gertrude actually hops upwards into the uppercut, and as her feet return to earth, she offers a huff, working her shoulder back and adjusting her glasses as she unclenches her fist, shaking her head lightly as she does.
That's a good clean hit.
Rainbow Mika actually stumbles back a bit, looking like she needs to recollect herself for a moment as she works to get over having her head knocked back like one of the Rock'em Sock'Em Robots. Thankfully it didn't actually go flying up. Honestly, she wouldn't mind being a bit taller, it's more in the hope that height would give her some more advantage in the wrestling ring, and neck height doesn't pack on more muscle or give you better leverage.
"Nice one," Mika finally offers as she recollects herself. "I suppose I'm going to have to pull this up to another level if I want to get through your guard." She's gone into an awkward wrestling pace that seems as if it would leave her more open, but allows her to dramaticly shout for the cameras (and those fight fans who are braving the winter, standing just outside the castle grounds). "I can't just let myself drop out here... I've got to give it everything I've got if I want to prove to people that they're underestimating the true power of wrestling!"

Gertrude pauses. The young German would looks hard at Mika as she shouts and pumps herself up. It is a pretty dramatic-sounding speech, but for her part, Gertrude doesn't seem in any rush to respond in kind. She just... considers her fellow fighter, and makes sure her guard remains as up as it has been throughout the fight so far.
"If you drop your guard, you're basically done." She says, agreeably. "But thank you. My Rising Knuckle has seen me through a lot of tough scrapes. I think it is my most reliable technique!"
Pursing her lips, she shakes her head a little. "But I wouldn't worry. I think you've proven the strength of your technique. Wrestling is up there with Muay Thai these days! Your Paradise Hold is a technique I really admire, you know? And you've got very strong throws. I'm going to have to concentrate on landing every hit I can. If I had to criticize anything, its that you move so quickly you sometimes leave yourself a little open. But I have to concentrate really hard to keep up, so ... haha, yeah."
She's... she's actually just standing there, talking about fighting and fight strategy, like anyone other than hardcore fight nerds is going to care at all about that!!

"You've got technique, I'm definitely going to give you that," Rainbow Mika starts as she stops her pacing to focus back in on Gertrude. "What you have to work on is persona!" She whips one hand up to dramaticly point at Gertrude. "You can't just wander into the ring and focus on hitting hard. It's all about bringing the best show for the fans!" Mika hand draws along toward one of the nearest cameras. "You're here because the fans want to watch you fight! So go big! Give them the greatest fight they've ever seen!"
Her hand drops as she adopts the sort of posture that makes her seem far taller than she really is. "So here's my suggestion... I'm going to show you what I've got. I'm going to go big... and then you're going to give it right back to me as hard as you can!" She flings both hands up in the air, clenched into fists. "WE'RE GOING TO SHOW THEM JUST HOW EXPLOSIVE PROFESSIONAL FIGHTING CAN BE!"
There is, of course, no time for a response as Rainbow Mika instantly begins to cross the open ground between her and Gertrude in a flash, lunging forward to plant both hands on the German woman's shoulders, and then using all of her enertia to help launch her over her opponent with a flip before instantly twisting on one heel to slip both arms around Gertrude's waist. Once Mika has her locked in, she rockets into a backbend to plow Gertrude's head into the ground.

Mika is definitely the more impressive fighter when it comes to persona, there's no doubt about that. Gertrude doesn't bring much excitement to her matches; her fans are the sort of people who would spend hours talking about the advantage of padded versus unpadded gloves, or whether protective clothing should be banned or compulsory in fight competitions.
Or people who just like backing the obsessive fighter with a shady past. A lot of people seem to assume she's just waiting for the right moment to show her true colors...
"Well I don't know..." Gertrude starts, and then Mika is on her shoulders, and she's flipped into the ground. There's a grunt from the German fighter, and she huffs as her head bounces off the old cobblestones.
Ouch.
Getting back to her feet, Gertrude hmphs, "No, I'm sorry." She says, "I'm not here to give a show, really. I'm here to be the best sportswoman I can be. You might be a better entertainer..."
"/But I'm the better FIGHTER!"
That's remarkably arrogant a statement to make given her usual cheery demeanor. Maybe she's just trying to pump up the fight in her own way? But either way, she leaps back onto the offensive in a very literal fashion, rocketing into the air, her glasses catch the dim Scottish sunlight at the top of her jump.

And maybe that's evidence that Mika has gotten beneath her skin more than she'd like to admit, as she rockets back to earth with the flat of her hand leading her way, aiming to chop Mika straight down on the top of her skull with a dramatic shout of:

Better fighter but she doesn't care about putting on a show?
Rainbow Mika can appreciate that some people are actually far more into the actual mechanics of a fight rather than what a crowd might think, but those people don't yet understand what it means to be a /professional/ fighter. Not that she has time at this exact moment to explain that to Gertrude with the other woman barreling down on her.
Mika tenses up her muscles as Gertrude comes flying in at her, locking herself into position as she prepares for the on-coming storm, ready to weather it and teach a lesson in the process.
This doesn't quite work out, however, and instead Mika finds herself slammed into the ground with a chop to the head. It looks extremely painfuly.
Which doesn't stop Mika from getting back up to her feet... the wrestler grunts as she does, ignoring the trickle of blood coming down across her forehead, trailing a line along her mask, her nose. That's not important right now.
"Better fighter?" Rainbow Mika replies as she catches her footing. "You might have better technique, but if you think you're a better fighting, you don't understand how professional fighting works!" The intensity is palpable as Mika locks eyes on Gertrude. "Professional fighting doesn't just exist so you can go around showing people that you know how to do a karate chop. Before professional wrestling, it was a bunch of people moving between dojos to hit each other... professional wrestling made it global!"
She draws her hands up to either side, looking around as she takes in the venue. "Wrestlers realized that people wanted excitement! They wanted thrills! They wanted something besides a boring man in a gi hitting another boring man in a gi!"
Her attention begins to settle in on Gertrude again, watching her every motion intently. "So... let's try this again, because I can sure as hell tell you didn't actually give me your best just now. Show me what you've got. Show me what you think means the fans aren't important."

"I didn't say the fans aren't important." Gertrude says, patiently. "I told you that I'm a better fighter. And technically, I am." Raising her hands, Gertrude gives Mika a very odd look, raising one eyebrow as she is accused of not giving her her best. She's pretty sure that was one of the best Utopian Crushers she's ever performed! That's about as good as it gets, from Gertrude's perspective!
"Being seen around the world doesn't make you better at fighting, either. It just makes you popular. Popularity isn't the same thing as being great... and I've made my living as a fighter for six years!"
That jab had actually hurt her feelings! Gertrude's irritation clear on her lips as she comes back in for Mika. If she wants to see her best, then she'll show her the best she has!
Moving to quickly seize Mika's shoulders, Gertrude doesn't waste any time, she just aims to bring the woman to her body, braced against a knee, and roll over backwards, flinging the wrestler away at the precise tip of the backwards roll, and completing it, rolling after her, back on her feet, and bearing down on Mika all in one smooth, graceful, perfectly executed movement.
It ISN'T the most powerful technique she's got, not by a long shot...
But it IS performed with absolute technical precision. The perfect... Tomoe Nage. HER fans will be going wild. Normal people? Will be wondering why it is worth doig at all.

One thing about professional wrestling is that you get thrown around a lot, and in Mika's case its quite often by people much larger than her. Gertrude doesn't quite have that advantage. So when she comes in for the grab and attempts to fling her away, Mika's completely prepared for it, making a simple roll on her shoulder that allows her to pop back up on her feet on the other side, barely scratched.
"You have good technique, precise movements... I agree that you've got what it takes there. And it's also not just about popularity." Rainbow Mika is spreading the gospel of professional wrestling everywhere she goes now. "My point is that there are two types of fighting in the world: Fighting for a cause, like soldiers and police officers, and professional fighting! The problem is when people don't acknowledge that professional fighting /is/ a show, and you can't be the best professional fighter if you don't put on the best show with technique... with persona!"
"And more importantly... I can feel you holding back! I asked for explosive, and you gave me technique! THIS IS WHAT I MEAN BY EXPLOSIVE!"
Charging once more into things, once more lunging to plant both hands on Gertrude's shoulders, Mika this time launches forward with a vicious headbutt, following rapidly by a flurry of three more before she draws back to put everything she's got into another blow, hopefully leaving Gertrude completely dazed. From there, she loops an arm in around Gertrude's neck and launches herself up into the air as she drags the German woman with her, hauling her vertically up onto her shoulder as she lands on top of one of the castle's fallen ramparts.
"HERE! WE! GO!" She shouts as she launches off her elevated position, falling into a backdrop as she maintains Gertrude's vertical positioning, aiming to drive the top of her head into the ground.

"I promise you, I'm not holding back." Gertrude actually sounds pretty annoyed now. She DOESN'T hold back in her fights. She does the best she can, making the right moves at every moment, as she sees them. She doesn't appreciate being told that she's holding back when she's not! It brings back bad memories from her childhood.
When Mika comes at her again, she's too irritated to put up a proper defense. She aims to dodge out of the way of the attack, a decision she realizes instantly was the wrong one (but because she's not going to be able to manage it, not because she deliberately let herself get hit!) And what follows is staggeringly painful. Her face hits the dirt hard, and at this point, Gertrude is trembling with pent up frustration. Her glasses are broken. Just once, she'd like to make it through one of these fights without losing her glasses.
JUST. ONCE.
"Do you think, I'm just messing around or something?!" She shouts, blood flowing freely from her nose. "Its REALLY HURTFUL for you to say those things! I'm trying my best, and you're just, just, being a BITCH!"
She's actually glowing now. The young German woman is suffused with a soft blue light. This has happened in a few other fights, usually with literally explosive consequences, but Gertrude doesn't even seem very aware of it right now. She's just... too angry! Frustrated and upset because she's a veteran of dozens of battles - she knows when she's hanging on by a thread, and the chances of her pulling back after that attack are tiny. Her head is still ringing, and she's going to fall over any second. How dare Mika criticize her style? How DARE she?!
"You stupid bimbo wrestling airhead!" She shrieks, raising her hands above her head, "You think fighting is all just la-la-la, big flashy moves?! Is THIS what you wanted instead, huh? That I'd just, throw out something like..."
And suddenly, Gertrude is lunging across the distance, an afterimage trail of other Gertrudes left in her wake as she crosses the ancient earth, both hands coming around in a HEFTY overhead axe handle blow...
But whether that hits or misses, the actually dangerous part of the technique is the incredibly large FLASH of psychic power which explodes out of her hands, a bright blue burst which will send dirt and debris flying up in a large crater - and hopefully give Rainbow Mika the EXPLOSIVE show that she seemed so desperate for.
... Though Gertrude looks more confused than anything else in the aftermath of the attack. "Something... like... that?" She asks, looking at her hands in confusion.

Alright, perhaps Rainbow Mika went too far. Mika Nanakawa herself is sort of awkward when the topic doesn't revolve around wrestling or fighting. She's been living a life of training for years now. She's dealt with people constantly making jokes about how professional wrestling is fake, or how it's not as good as 'real' fighting styles.
Those people were wrong... wrestling is about technique, power, and giving the fans what they want.
Of course, maybe there are fans who just want to watch two people fight with nothing else. And now she'd gone and actually made her opponent mad. Gertrude had been quite nice, but Mika had felt there was something holding back in there. She wanted to help Gertrude take her skill and bring it to a better level... instead maybe she'd gone too far.
Regardless, she's readying herself for the on-coming attack, tensing up for the blow that's about to come in...
Then a second later the sudden unexpected surge of psychic power has sent Rainbow Mika flying. She hits the ground and starts to tear up a trough in the dirt. She still hits the castle wall hard enough that the stones in the wall shift. Hopefully the Mishima Zaibatsu doesn't mind fitting the bill for repairing a broken castle to its correct broken condition.
And still Rainbow Mika stands up. Mika Nanakawa wants to apologize, to let Gertrude know that she didn't mean that the karate fighter was bad, just that she thought she could pull out something more and be the whole package.
But in the ring, Rainbow Mika has to be in charge. So despite the fact that she's covered in small cuts and bruises, her outfit is torn in a few places that haven't damaged its integrity enough to demand censorship, Rainbow Mika is now smiling. "THAT'S IT! I knew you had it in you! Now let's finish this fight!"
Without hesitation, Rainbow Mika is back in the fray, clearing the distance between the two fighters until she's close enough to plant her foot and use it as a pivot point, take Gertrude in the temple with the back of her fist, then pivotting to do it again. Once more she hopes to dizzy her opponent just enough that she's got an opportunity to catch herself, planting both feet facing away from the karate fighter and rocketing her ass into Gertrude's stomach, then landing, locking her knees again as she summons up every ounce of strength in her body, and blasting back into her gut one more time.

Really, Gertrude is stunned enough by the thing she just did that she's not sure what to think. It is the first time she's not been driven to genuinely insane rage by her opponents and pulled it off - she doesn't tend to rewatch her own fights because, well, it is embarrassing when you lose your temper like that and don't really remember what happened. She blinks a couple of times, and then Mika is getting up and talking to her, and she frowns lightly.
"Uh, yeah..." One half of her glasses falls off her face, the other is brushed off with the back of her hand. "... Okay?"
The blonde fighter gets socked in the face, her guard is still quite sloppy, right arm low, and her hand clenches into a fist. The second punch makes her eyes go glassy, and really, the end is pure instinct. Gertrude's clenched fist meets Mika's powerful posterior, and both fighters are launched up and away. Gertrude hits the ground first - and she's unconscious the moment she does. Almost grateful for it, really. She DOESN'T have any talent with energy manipulation - it is one of the cornerstones of her existence, part of the comfortable shell that makes up her identity.
Whilst she's KO'd, she won't have to worry about the fact that is clearly untrue on at least some level.
There's no time for Mika to notice that Gertrude is really somewhat confused by what just happened (although, honestly, Mika didn't really notice any energy manipulation herself, given that most of it was above or behind her head and she was knocked senseless). There's no time to think any further about how she went too far in her taunting.
No, instead all Rainbow Mika has is an opportunity to acknowledge that Gertrude has a really good uppercut, and that it's probably going to hurt even more when she hits the ground.
