Neo League 0001 - NL#0028: Daniel vs Rainbow Mika

Description: Once more entering the ring after the recent end of her winning streak, Rainbow Mika finds herself facing Daniel Jack, and opponent who embodies her greatest weakness: Boringness. Can the electrifying wrestler force the government agent to shed his efficient but bland persona? <Winner: Daniel>

The Sea Horses Grand Hotel was a pleasant change of venues.

The Sea Horses Grand Hotel was one of the more globally popular hotels in Rio de Janeiro. Not for the sheer quality, of course. The best hotels were the ones you never heard about, but everyone goes to anyways. No, the hotel had such a strong reputation from the fact it hosted fight exhibitions. The fighting pit was a pool fringed by black marble. Across the floor, several grates cover water jets, that shoot out colored geysers in increments, the so called 'electric fountain.' Surrounding it are waterfalls, and of course, the stands from which to watch the fight. It was a gaudy, if entertaining, place for organized fights to take place.

Not that Daniel Jack would enjoy it.

The detective was standing in front of the legendary 'Electric Fountain' of the elegant hotel, outside the ring. He was still clutching the phone as the chief screams at him. The words were... lacking in meaning right now. After his match with Gertrude, The Chief was becoming more and more disappointed in Daniel's public performances. The Agent of Interpol, dressed in his government greys, just nods along, occasionally answering with a 'Yes Sir' and 'No Sir.' Finally, with a final scream, the phone goes silent. The detective, face flat, shoves his phone into his suit top, before bitterly stating aloud.

"Why does he even -want- me to fight in these things?"

The streak had been ended. Not to say that Mika is overly disappointed with her loss; as far as the wrestler was concerned, she'd put on a good show that people would talk about and remember.

What this did mean is that promoting Rainbow Mika as a top competitor had gone from "Undefeated leader of the Neo League" to simply "leader of the Neo League." That sells fewer tickets to impulse buyers. Thankfully Rainbow Mania wasn't stopping, and there were more than a few fans set up outside of the ring waiting for the match to begin.

While the Neo League promotional team might not be able to put in quite as much effort promoting the match, Rainbow Mika wouldn't put up with anything but the best to thrill the fans. Some of the lights had been changed out on the fountain to make certain of that.

"LADIES AND GENTLEMEN!" The announcers voice burst forth from the speakers surrounding the fountain. "Get ready for an incredible battle! The current leader of the Neo League... RAINBOOOOOOOW MIIIIIIIIIIIKAAAAAAAA!"

The sound of Rainbow Mika's theme bursts out across the stylish arena as the fountain goes off in tune with the music, showering the area as its lit with blues and clean whites to match the wrestler's costume. Rainbow Mika herself comes charging out waving to the crowd, blowing a quick kiss toward a fan holding a "MARRY ME MIKA!" sign. As she leaps into the ring, she bursts through one of the blue lit geysers, coming out explosively on the other side as she skids to a stop near the center of the ring.

And Daniel didn't get this Rainbow Mania thing either.

As the roars of the countless fans come surging around, the detective just watches, observing. He only had passing, public knowledge of the wrestling prodigy and expert meatbun competitive eater. It wasn't hard to google her, after all, and her reptuation of being one of the hottest new wrestlers in the world was impossible to miss.

Though certainly, she ate up the attention.

Daniel Jack hops over the low wall, and begins his walk to the center of the ring. "Well, hell." The detective begins, as he approaches the girl. "I didn't know I was gonna fight a superstar!" He starts off, a smirk on his face. "The name's Agent Little, but you can call me Daniel Jack." The Agent of Interpol stops a few feet away from Mika. He inspects the girl, and her outfit. Kids these days. Well, it wasn't like Daniel could complain about people dressing loudly. He looks out into the audience, gesturing towards the man with the sign."

"You sure you want to be encouraging people like that?"

Once she'd settled into the ring, Rainbow Mika calms down on the whole working the crowd up thing. The entrance is a very important part of fighting, it's an opportunity for the crowd to get to know a new competitor, a chance to remind the fans of who you are, an opportunity to get people on your side. Jumping in on someone else's entrance is bad form (unless it's part of one of the bits that sometimes get worked out to create tension, but those are usually only between more experienced fighters in a rivalry).

The fact that Mika is so careful about stepping back to give her opponent some time to shine is perhaps why it's so utterly disappointing when Agent Little steps out into the ring. Apparently he didn't even arrange for his name to get announced to the crowd.

This is not a good start to a fight.

"We wouldn't be having these fights if we weren't for all of the fans," Rainbow Mika offers as a counter to Daniel's question. "Without the fans, fighting would just be some local fights between boring men in gis or street brawls." She decides to officer the Interpol agent a quick bit of advice. "You should probably try to get some of the fans on your side, unless you're working a bit."

That said, she settles down into a wide wrestling stance, arms spread wide, knees bent, leaning slightly forward. She starts to focus on the feeling of the crowd and the aura of her opponent.

Getting fans? On his side?

Daniel Jack almost has a response. His mouth opens. His finger rises. And yet, as his eyes bulge out, he doesn't have one. He can't reject that very statement. Backing up a moment, he briefly considers the young girl's wisdom.

When HAD he advertised himself to the public?

Every single fight he had in this tournament, he made sure to introduce himself to his opponent. Because that's the most important person to be respectful to. His opponent. And being in Interpol, he couldn't be a gaudy, loud, zoot suit wearing hellion. He had to be government clean. A look of dread comes over Daniel's face as he finally realizes what may be the real reason why the Chief was furious at him constantly. It didn't matter if Daniel won, or if he lost.

What mattered is that he didn't make Interpol look like an asshole in the process!

The detective wipes beads of moisture from his brow, looking towards the crowd. Yeah, that what was happening. The people watching out there just saw him as a dry nobody who beat up women. The grey suit was probably even a turn-off. He remembered the days when he swaggered in his brightly colored suit, and that handled most of the talking for him. Who was he now, though?

Who was he?

Daniel Jack nods slowly, with heavy gravity with every shake. Smirking, he whispers a bit, towards the girl. "Yeah, you're right Rainbow Mika. Thank you." He says with full-hearted sincerity.

And then he speaks out.

"Now I've heard a great deal about this Rainbow Mania, sweetheart!" The detective states with rigid tones, loud enough to fill the floor. "But you are gonna need a lot more than just heart if you want to get past pure, Interpol precision. This ain't dime-a-dozen wrestling gumbo coming at you, sweetheart."

"Keep your eyes on this!"

Wind suddenly whips through his suit jacket's sleeves, as Daniel Jack suddenly bursts out with a surge of orange chi. Energy casting off his finger tips, the detective swings his arms down hard. Dual waves of energy cascade to his left and right, just in time for jets of water to launch up. "The name's Jack! Daniel Jack!" Comes the stern, grim tones that fill the arena. "World Detective. And what you have the chance to experience is the all-powerful arts of Todoh-Ryuu Kobojutsu! So come on, sweetheart, let me ask you this." Dropping down to the half-stance of aikido, one palm forward, one palm back, he locks eyes at his leotard-garbed opponent.

"You ready to jack this up a notch?!"

And there, the detective makes his approach. Shooting forward with a palm thrust with his left straight towards Rainbow Mika's chest, the detective swiftly pivots, unleashing a swift, precise hand chop with the right, aimed for Mika's shoulder. The assault chains to a follow-up chop with the left, targeting Mika's opposite shoulder. The charge ends with the straight kick from detective's right leg, attempting to shove her back away from the detective.

"That's the Zoot Suit Riot, Sweetheart!"

COMBATSYS: Rainbow Mika blocks Daniel's Zoot Suit Riot.

This wasn't how intros traditionally worked out. In wrestling the talking was often prerecorded before the match because whenever you were in the ring, there was a good chance an annoyed crowd would work against your intended tone. You had to get the crowd worked up properly before you did something in the ring that wasn't fighting.

That doesn't mean that Mika doesn't stand back and let Daniel Jack have his moment. Certainly he was terrible at the whole entrance thing, but every fighter deserves a chance to get some fans on their side. Even the heels have a few people rooting for them.

...Although, honestly whoever came up with this gimmick should probably be fired.

Also, when Daniel comes charging in at her, she's quick to intercept the blows using forearms, biceps, evening leaning into some shoulder blows to weaking the attempt. It's not until the Interpol agent is finished and starts shouting move names that she realizes she might have just shut down one of his famous moves. Hopefully he's got more than that.

"You're doing better! Don't just treat the crowd like they're the background! The show's only a show when people watch it, otherwise it's just practice!"

Following up that, she endeavours to give Daniel a taste of her own style. Not like a literal taste, because that would be awkward given what comes next, but a metaphorical taste.

The wrestler pulls in just enough room between her and Daniel Jack before suddenly surging forward with reckless speed, launching herself up into the air to plant her legs on either side of his head as she slams into his face, aiming to use all the force of her strike to knock Daniel onto his back (probably with a splash). Her legs clench in tight on his head, trapping him in place as she swings upsidedown into a handstand, dragging Daniel up with her before whipping his head down into the ground.

Hopefully she doesn't break the fountain.

For Daniel Jack, late was better than never.

Each of the four blows are shut down. A boring advance, but a practical one. For the detective to have such a simple combination as his signature move, it might be a bad foreboding of what the agent had up his sleeve. After all, Rainbow Mika did just block his iconic move.

The problem?

All of Daniel's moves were iconic.

The Agent of Interpol notices all too well about just how reckless Rainbow Mika was hurling in. Drawing back his leg, he immediately steps to the side. Every movement from the detective was, foremost, steady. As she flies in with those nubile young legs, he raises those palms up. He doesn't duck. He doesn't sidestep.

He catches.

Clasping each of those thighs into his palms, he steps in and under. Guiding Rainbow Mika's descent, he doesn't jar her, nor does he spike her. He just moves with the grace of a ballet dancer, letting Rainbow Mika land on her feet as he repositions to her other side.

And he winds back a palm.

Energy floods to his hand rapidly as the detective shifts his momentum. "That's some hot stuff, sweetheart, some real hot stuff." He calls out loudly, trying to get SOME stage presence out there. "But let me lay it to you straight. Real straight. You are gonna need a whole lot more if you want to take down a professional!" Energy erupts from his palm as he hurls out a small flash of chi forward, just to soften her guard... Before hurling out with a burning palm strike straight to her torso.

"FANTASTIC. TODOH! PAAAAAAUNCH!!!"

Not getting her maneuver in is somewhat problematic.

Honestly, what's more problematic is that her opponent not only avoids getting the attack in, he manages to do it in an incredibly boring way that makes the match look like a joke.

Not acceptable.

Of course, somehow through all of that, he still manages to get himself into a rather good position that makes it hard to strike back, or even get out of the way. Rainbow Mika is left with one option: take the hit and punish it! She tenses up her muscles for the oncoming assault, readies herself to just stand there through it all. Thinks about how to follow it up.

Then she gets hit really pretty hard. It's not that she wasn't ready for it and totally prepared to do something awesome, it's the fact that someone doesn't realize that you shouldn't expect fighters to fight on relatively smooth stones that are constantly covered in water! Even with her incredible wrestling boots she has no opportunity for the traction to hold and she's pushed off her mark!

This is why wrestling prefers rings. And cages. And parking lots. Weddings...

Okay, wrestling matches happen in a lot of weird places, but usually not fountains.

Clearly if a head on assault won't work, the only option is a rear on assault! Rainbow Mika twists around where she's standing, tensing up her legs, then launches backwards, folding over at the waist as she lets all of her limbs trail behind her in an effor to provide a more aerodynamic shape.

Also, hopefully she decks Daniel in the guy with her butt.

Daniel Jack -was- awfully boring in his defense.

There wasn't any wild dodges, stalwart stands, reckless charges, or even rampaging smashes. Even the Fantastic Todoh Punch was balanced, not even overextending with the powerful strike. He was already back to his defensive stance, ready for anything.

She decks Daniel in the gut with her butt.

"GURK!" Was the response, as Daniel was not ready for everything. The girl rockets butt first into the detective, who continues to have energy roll off his arms. The agent of Interpol struggles to lash out with a palm strike with his left...

But the butt has too much glut.

"Unorthodox, sweetheart!" Agent Little groans, stumbling back out of his lunging palm strike. "But you think that is any way to treat a man my age?" He chuckles at bit, before sighing. "Oh. Wow. I am actually at the age where I am too old to be assaulted by butt moves." The man mutters quietly. "Okay sweetheart, I hope you are ready for what's coming up next!"

"SKIFFLE DROP!"

The detective hurls out a palm strike with the left, aiming for the girl's face, before hurling out a chop with the right. Another Zoot Suit Riot? But didn't he say- Agent Little will step in right after the chop to grab the girl by her hip. And if she gets a grip on her protruding waist, Daniel will try to grab her arm, and finish the assault with a hip throw, slamming her right into a grate.

And right into a gesyer of water.

This was the flashiest you had, Daniel?

COMBATSYS: Daniel successfully hits Rainbow Mika with Skiffle Drop.

When you spend as much time attacking people with your butt as Rainbow Mika, you tend to find ways to make it different and to use it tactically. The fact that her butt hit wasn't as rapid as one might expect means that it should be a lot easier to handle an oncoming attack.

Of course, maybe she's just not prepared for how incredibly boring Daniel is. He knocks her around a bit and slams her into the grate. Definitely not optimal, because it means she didn't manage to jump out of the way like she had intended to. It also means that kind of hurt.

Well, only one option now, and that's to try to work the crowd up. Her opponent is really boring, and then need some excitement!

"I thought you were going to get the crowd to like you," she shouts as she pushes herself back up to her feet, soaking wet. Somehow her ponytails are managing to hold more or less in position, rather than flopping around heavily. "You keep shouting out moves, but none of them make any sense! They need to be exciting! To stir up the spirit! Personality!"

She turns out to look at the crowd, which seems like sort of a bad idea maybe. "He's got skill, he's got technique, but what does he need?!"

Somehow, that's enough to stir up the crowd, all of them suddenly beginning to chant.

"PER-SON-ALITY!"

"PER-SON-ALITY"

Daniel couldn't deny it.

It -was- boring in the face of butt launches and sexy thigh holds. A variation on his core technique, the detective was going for skill and technique. As he sends Rainbow Mika to the ground, his deft technique and words were doing nothing to win over the cheering crowd. His technique was boring, yes.

But he was trying, dammit.

"I can't have a personality anymore, I work for the government!" The Interpol Agent tries to explain. "I can't even wear my Zoot Suits anymore!" And yet, it falls on deaf ears as the crowd chants. Personality. Daniel Jack was once told in his youth that he had TOO much personality. And look at him now, being called out right in the middle of the ring that he had too little flash, and too much substance.

Daniel decides to bring up the flash.

The detective slips off his suit, tossing it aside. Underneath, is a white button-down shirt, a pair of suspenders.. and a pair of muscled arms. The detective snaps the suspenders, before tightening his arms. Orange chi roars over his frame, swirling around his torso before flowing to his arms. In a slow, steady motion, he draws both arms up high. "Personality? Who needs personality when you got the only thing anybody needs." The energy builds to his fingertips, before he slams both limbs down in slicing motions. With both arms, a shockwave of energy boils across the grounds, as the fountains fire off a sequence of red, white, and green geysers. The shockwave rips straight towards the famous Rainbow Mika, a blend of chi and electric fountain, attempting to send her flying.

"KASANE ATE!"

Excuses!

That's nothing but an excuse! You can't show up to a fight and be boring, that's a sin worse than any other. There's a crowd out there. A crowd chanting for Daniel Jack to bring out something more than just a boring, gray government working.

"THIS ISN'T A GOVERNMENT OFFICE! THIS IS A FIGHTING RING!" Rainbow Mika bellows in response, waving her arms out toward the crowd. "THEY'RE HERE TO SEE A FIGHT, NOT HERE YOU COMPLAIN ABOUT DRESS CODES AND REGULATIONS!"

The wrestler points out toward Daniel Jack as he starts to build up his energy. "EITHER YOU SHOW ME THAT YOU'VE GOT SOMETHING IN YOU BESIDES COMPLAINTS, EXCUSES, AND BORING OR YOU SHOULD DROP OUT OF FIGHTING RIGHT NOW!"

This, at the very least, is something that Mika might be able to work with. This moment will be exciting, no matter what the Interpol agent tries. TIME TO GO BIG!

As Daniel starts to build up his energy, Rainbow Mika goes barreling in at him, tensing up her body for what she knows is about to happen. She lunges forward, trying to plant her hands on his shoulders...

Only to eat Kasane Ate at point blank range.

She promised excitement! THIS IS EXCITEMENT

The wrestler goes flying back, skipping across the shallow surface of the water like a stone (not really, there's a lot of inelegant splashing involved), gets knocked up by a few convenient geysers, one of which seems to be full of a peculiar amount of power based on the fact that Mika goes flying up into the air much higher than should be expected, then comes crashing down on the edge of the pool, shattering the barrier as it completely gives way under the force of her landing, leaving water to start draining out.

And yet somehow she manages to point right at Detective Little from her thrown of broken stone. "Give the crowd what they want... or you don't deserve to enter the ring!"

Daniel wasn't trying to be this boring!

Rainbow Mika, and her countless fans, are faced with the worst thing: A boring government employee just taking down Rainbow Mania. The blast of Kasane Ate was practical, and effective. But as Rainbow Mika is knocked away, it was no Lightning Spangles. Daniel Jack realizes, in terror, that he had become... a boring old man. He could understand that in itself is why Rainbow Mika should call him out on it, and tell him to leave the world of fighting for good.

But he did not take it lightly.

"Drop out of fighting right now? DROP OUT OF FIGHTING RIGHT NOW!?" Daniel Jack thumps a fist to his chest. The detective walks towards the downed Rainbow Mika, staring hard at the girl. "I am Agent Little of Interpol, student of Todoh-Ryuu Kobojutsu, and Daniel Jack, World Detective. And NOBODY! Not even Rainbow Mania! Is going to take make me drop out of fighting for GOOD!"

"You dig it?!"

Daniel Jack straightens out a hand to his right, arm trembling with power. A whirlwind of chi surges over the limb, steadily growing tighter and tighter. Raising the hand high overhead, the energy finally absorbs within the arm. Bringing his other hand forward, he stares dead on at Rainbow Mika. He takes in a long breath in. And exhales.

And the hand comes down.

The crack of a sonic-bomb comes as the hand chop comes straight for Rainbow Mika's collarbone, roaring in with the force of a dozen battleships. Should it strike, it could possibly turn Rainbow Mika turn inside out. It could bury Mika into her tomb, under the fountain grounds. It could hit Rainbow Mika so hard, that she would suddenly get the fun knocked out from her. Instead of Rainbow Mika, she would just be an ordinary girl who is just trying to get into a good university to get a bland business degree, so she can get a good 40 hour per week career for 30 years, find an acceptable husband, and then retire into a happy retirement of playing online poker.

Or it might just knock her out.

Rainbow Mika     2/<<<<<<</<<<<<<<|=======\==-----\1           Daniel

There is a distinct problem with making threats while you are currently buried in the broken edge of a fountain: you don't really have a ton of room to maneuver.

But there is one good thing: Through all of this, Rainbow Mika can see that glimmer of performance begin to burst forth from deep within Daniel Jack. He's got passion beginning to pour at, rather than simple excuses.

He wants to fight for this right to fight!

This attack is even sort of interesting!

Okay, yeah, it's a chop with some chi around it, but it takes time to build up, to draw excitement from the crowd. This attack has some drama to it! With some flourishes, and the shouting that Daniel seems to be getting the hand of, it could be something good!

This isn't to say that Mika is willing to just give up. She tenses every muscle in her body, attempts to turn hard like steel as her arms fly up into a cross block to hold the blow off. Chop and crossblock battle against each other in a tense moment, either one having a chance to win...

And then it just slams all the way through! Mika's arms just can't hold back the blow and it slams into her.

What happens next? Does Mika give up fighting? Become a normal, boring person?

No, don't be stupid.

Mika Nanakawa can't simply give up Rainbow Mika. Rainbow Mika is part of the young woman, a part that she's built up over years of training. A part that is her true passion!

She pops up from her place, buried in rubble, and frowns as Inspector Little's arm seems to have found itself stuck in her cleavage for a moment before the elastic of her chest piece pops it back out.

"IF YOU WANT TO FIGHT, THEN YOU NEED TO SHOW THE PEOPLE THAT YOU WANT TO FIGHT!" From the way she's moving now, there's no way anyone could tell that she's on the verge of collapse. That her body just can't take the damage that's been dealt.

"You walked into the ring like the crowd didn't even matter! You never had anyone announce who you were! That's an insult to the fans!" She presses forward, seeming much larger than her normal height. "And that boring suit... even the guys who wear gis look like they actually care about being there!" She's an unstoppable machine.

"IF YOU DON'T CARE ABOUT THE CROWD, THAT MEANS ALL YOU CARE ABOUT IS HURTING PEOPLE!"

With those words, Rainbow Mika suddenly lashes out, drop kicking Daniel Jack in the chest with both boots, knocking him back over one of the grates. Apparently timing is with Mika, because it begins to burble just as she launches forward to whip around behind her opponent, snaring him around the midsection with both hands and hauling him in tight just as the fountain fires both of them into the air in clear defiance of the way physics normally work. Once up there at the peak, Mika uses pure strength of will to whip them around so that both fighters have their heads pointed at the ground. And then gravity takes over. And Daniel Jack's slight height advantage means he'll hit first.

...not that Rainbow Mika doesn't hit the ground out cold after her big finale.

Daniel Jack thought he was ready for what came next.

As the hand chop comes down, it rips through Mika's guard, as the chop was well known to do. Daniel Jack's moves were effective, that much had been proven. Anything useless had been merged with other moves, or simply abandoned. He once had a gun, even. A -gun-. And now, instead, he was the combo fighter of the Todoh-Ryuu family. He had his moves. As she comes surging in, about who he is, he almost was ready to stop it cold.

And then she says those words.

*All you care about is hurting people*

Daniel Jack is stunned, if only for a moment. But a moment is all that Rainbow Mika needs. The detective tries to half-hearted block the incoming dropkick, but he is nothing for the woman's last defiant stand. As he is launched into the air by the rush of water, he is whipped around in time to be smashed head first straight into the stone ground.

Needless to say, it hurts.

Mika might be cold, but Daniel Jack's legs were slumped over. For a moment, neither were moving. Rainbow Mika's fans were at the edge of their seats. They had seen this before. Any moment now, Rainbow Mika would make her comeback. She would stand up, and then, the boring government dude would lose. But the apprehension fades, as it looks more and more like a DKO.

And then Daniel moves.

The agent of Interpol rolls out of Mika's grips. And steadily, he rises back up. Snapping his suspenders, the detective looks out at the crowd. He was dazed. His head had a trickle of blood rolling down his forehead. But Daniel Jack was standing.

And the crowd begins to boo.

At this point, Daniel didn't care. As food and cups are hurled into the fountain arena, Daniel Jack just walks over to his suit jacket. Picking it up, he could hear the phone inside ringing. He doesn't even bother answering it this time. He knew the answer. He knew the answer every time. It seemed the Interpol wanted him to fight like Interpol, and entertaining the audience at the same time. Well, as his shutdowns had proven, the Interpol way of things wasn't entertaining. Daniel Jack just didn't know. Mika's words were rotting in his soul. He didn't care about the crowd.

And he did want to hurt people.
