Rise of the Black Dragon - Zach's Investigations Begin!

Description: Zach Glen pays a visit to Lynn Baker while she is recovering from Freeman's attack. Hoping to gain new leads, Zach comes away with a Social Link.

It's been a few days since the attack, and thankfully Lynn has healed up quick. Then again, she IS a fighter. Types like hers tend to heal quick as is. But even with that taken into account, the attack was brutal, and bandages still wrap up her torso underneath her hospital gown like a mummy wrap. Her parents were on the way back from their trip out of town, unable to get a return flight back despite hearing about the attack on the news, and calls from the dojo as well.

And while Lynn was healing up ahead of schedule, her stay in the hospital was a frustrating one. She didn't feel like watching TV much, doing her best to meditate in her hospital room while she could. Something about what that psycho said unnerved her. Something was wrong...beyond just that man somehow getting through the police nets. Someone wanted him in THIS city, in specific....but why...

Zach Glen had heard about the vicious attack on Lynn Baker. It occured to the psychic that the young woman may have been targetted. To what end, Zach had no clue. Lynn was a young woman who ran a fairly well-known dojo in Sunshine City, and that was about all that was really known about her. So why'd someone make a point of trying to carve her up? Was the person who attacked Lynn alos behind the missing fighters? How was this all connected to the Tournament of the Dragons? And Johann Gallo, the seemingly public face of the tournament itself?

Questions. Far too many of them, in fact. So far, Zach had next to no leads. Okay. He had NO leads. So, following his gut and the recent headlines in the city, the wandering psychic paid a visit to the hospital and one Lynn Baker.

Zach was directed to the young woman's room under escort; a basic security measure given the situation. "Security" in this case is a massive intern known as Mako. Big, dark skinned, and by all appearances intimidating. Mako leans into Lynn's room before speaking in a rumbling barotone.

"Miss Baker, there's someone here to see you. A Mister Zach Glen." A pause. "I can tell him to go away if you want."

Sitting cross-legged in her bed, meditating, the young Mss. Baker opened one eye, looking over to the large intern peeking his head into her room. "...it's alright, Mako," she says, unfurling her legs and swinging them over the edge of the bed. HOpping off and slipping her feet into her slippers, she made sure her gown was still properly tied and her bandages still covering all they needed to. A wince comes as the deep wound in her back especially gives her trouble.

Still...a visitor? A visitor she had no idea about? He certainly wasn't a student, or in the charity tournament going around town. "Let him in," she says to Mako, sighing. Even if she was injured, she was going to make sure she wasn't bedridden for such a meeting....you know, just in case. She's already been attacked once this week...

Zach Glen certainly IS, or perhaps WAS (that's still being decided) in the tournament. The short, blonde young man pokes in, giving Lynn a slight bow before thanking Mako. He blinks at the extent of Lynn's injuries. Whoever attacked her really did a number on her. Zach considers for a moment, before deciding on introductions. Nevermind the fact that Mako /already told her/ who he was, there are courtesies to be observed, and observing courtesies help set people at ease.

Besides, who introduces themselves AND THEN proceeds to attack you in a somewhat secure hospital. That's just crazy.

"Miss Baker?" Zach says before continuing. "My name is Zach Glen. I... heard about the attack. It's good to hear that you're doing well." Or well enough, given the situation. "Are you up to answering a few questions?"

Well...it does make it a lot less likely that whoever this guy is will attack her. At least not now. Still, Lynn is a bit suspicious, glancing over the blonde man as he introduces himself. Her hands come together, fist to palm, before giving him a short bow....then extending her hand in a more conventional greeting. "Nice to meet you. Though I'm wondering why you were looking for me specifically. Is this about the Dojo?"

Zach, polite as ever, mirrors the gesture before shaking hands (carefully) with the young woman. He looks a little uncertain at the moment. "Perhaps," Zach says. "You... wouldn't know /why/ you were attacked, by any chance?" Zach blinks. "Not that you did anything wrong, or anything. Given the apparent severity of your wounds, I'd... be inclined to say that there was some kind of serious motivation behind it."

He looks around, taking in the room for a second. This... is a very /still/ woman, in a building full of pain, suffering, hope, healing, anguish and other emotions that wash over the psion. He shudders for a moment, /distinctly/ uncomfortable with the sensation and its ramifications. "If you're not sure, there... are other things I could do to help you out."

...it would be about that attack, wouldn't it? A notable scowl and furrow of the serious girl's brow comes even as she shakes hands with Zach. "Oh....that," she sighs, pulling her hand back and shaking her head. "Honestly...I have no idea why that guy attacked me...what did they say his name was? Freeman?" She doesn't know his name for sure, as he never said it through the length of the attack. That's simply what the news referred to him as on the basis of her injuries. "He was a maniac. "He was trying to provoke something out of me, talking about the beauty of the night, and then trying to get....I don't know....he wanted me me to fight back."

She floated backward, until she felt the edge of the bed against the back of her legs, slowly settilng herself down onto it again. Her legs slowly kicked, the heels of her slippers brushing the tile beneath. "He wanted me to fight back so the kill would be better, I think."

Zach frowns at this. 'Crazy' does not a good motive make. He considers for a moment, looking around the hospital again. He looks... thoughtful for a second before regarding Lynn.

"It's a nice day out," he says somewhat abruptly. "Wanna take a walk? You can bring Mako if you want."

Zach half-suspects that she might not /physically/ be good for a walk. But he can help with that, if Lynn is willing.

Lynn shakes her head. "I'd rather not right now. Limited physical activity..." She says...though the ulterior motive of staying inside where she doubts the same creep would come after her again is a nice bonus too. At least given a while longer to recupe, she'd be ready for him again. And it gave her the time to mediate on...well, why he was here."

"...I don't think he was here by accident though," she finally says, making known something she'd been pondering over since that night.

Zach frowns a bit, before offering, "If you want to get out of here early, and healthy, I could probably help with that." He leaves that right there before considering Lynn's /other/ statement. He scratches the back of the head.

"It... wouldn't surprise me." Zach considers, staring at the floor for a moment. He takes a deep breath, before plunging right in. "Could you... tell me about this city? I've only ever been passing through, but," Zach thinks of /how/ to express this, "It seems like there's something /wrong/ with this town, and I can't... it's hard to place. People are /worried/, and it's not just the gang situation."

Lynn shakes her head. "No, no, thank you for offering, but I'm almost ready to be released as is, and besides...I have a lot to think about really right now, and the stay here has given me more free time than I would back home," she insists. She sighs deeply again, scooting herself further back onto the bed so her feet aren't so close to the floor.

"The city? What do you want to know that they haven't already said in news and everything before? It's shrinking. Like a fist tightening down on it. Grandfather knew something was wrong even when we settled down here."

Zach is kind of struck by Lynn's comments about the sentiment running through the city. He looks around, and finally grabs a chair, planting his elbows on his knees. He's silent for a moment, fighting down a surge of emotion from two floors up. He's not even sure /what/ emotion it was, but it was /strong/. He had to get a handle on that thing and quickly. He looks at Lynn.

"Did your grandfather ever tell you why he wanted to set down here from wherever you came from?"

Lynn shakes her head, hands resting in her lap as she tugged at the sleeves of her hospital gown. It felt odd to wear something with such narrow cuffs, even now. "We used to live in Metro City before, and left when the gang situation got bad over there. I insisted on staying with him even when my parents couldn't move immediately. It was a promising city, but gangs grew up here too. We stayed because there was no use running, and someone had to stand up."

A hand brushes her hair down a little more, flattening it a little bit more. "He trusted me to keep the dojo as a safe haven of sorts, even when things started to get even worse in Outer Sunshine lately."

Zach listens for a moment, nodding in agreement. "I can respect that," he says after a moment. "You have to make a stand somewhere, and wher you are is as good a place as any." His tone suggests that he really /does/ get it.

As nice, if reticent, as Lynn seems to be (and Zach gets the impression that she /is/ a person) this interview of sorts isn't getting much. He takes another deep breath before continuing. Zach stands. "It was good to meet you, Miss Baker," Zach says honestly. "I'll be in town for a while. If you need a strong arm, or your injuries are bothering you after you get out of the hospital," Zach offers a card with his name and phone number on it, "That phone is always on."

Lynn tugs at her sleeves a little more. "Thank you for the offer. I'm not sure what's happening in city right now. It feels like something is going to happen, and happen soon," she says. "If you learn any more, I'll be back at the Dojo by tomorrow." She takes the card, glancing over it and flipping it over a bit more, before placing it aside on the table near her bed.
