SNF 2012.04 - SNF: "Cold Snap"

Description: In the parking lot of Air Canada Centre, hockey's prodigal son Brett Neuer faces off against the Ikari Warrior's own Faolan Sheehan. Will Brett get the Red Light or will Faolan ruin the day of the rabid hockey fans everywhere? (Winner: Faolan)

Hockey and violence really do go hand in hand. So why not get the fans in the proper mood by introducing some violence before the game itself starts? What could possibly go wrong with this logic!? Even so it seems to be a hit since many fans have shown up to watch two men beat the snot out of one another before the Maple Leafs begin playing.

One of the contestants in the fight isn't much of a hockey fan, but he can respect what the guys do. He wouldn't even want to try on skates let alone move about at high speeds and slam into people. He even will stick around and watch tonight's game even if he loses. Maybe it is time to see it up close and personal and gain a new appreciation for it.

The Ikari Warrior stands in the makeshift circle they roped off for the competitors out in the parking lot. He idly bounces his bata against his shoulder as he waits for things to start. He hasn't heard much of who he is facing tonight. That always makes things a bit more interesting. Meeting and hitting new people is always a fun thing.

It would feel like a homecoming...if Brett ever actually played at the Air Canada Center before. Sure, he used to play in the OHL, but the closest he ever got here was staying in the area to catch a Leafs game. Still, it does bring back fond memories. A shame he had to take up street fighting rather than staying in the sport full-time.

A few do manage to recognize the winger though as he skates his way through the gathering crowd and hopping over the barricade just like it was a line change. He could swear he recognizes a few old teammates too...but he doesn't fret on it too much. He's got other worries right now.

Like his opponent. "I guess you're Faolan?" He asks, smiling toward the Ikari and nodding to him. "Good luck, eh?" he says in an accent that's almost at home here....almost, but not quite. After that cordial greeting, he starts adjusting his helmet and gloves...there's an anxiousness about him that doesn't exactly scream 'fighter' though.

Interesting. It seems that the man he is against is a bit more in his own element. Perhaps even something of a homefield advantage in this case. The Irishman nods his head when asked if he is Faolan and he gives a bit of a grin. "Aye, that would be me. Guess that makes you Brett." he says and reaches up with his free hand and lightly tips his hat to the other fighter while hmming a bit to himself. Well it could be interest to see what tricks this guy has up his sleeve.

The Ikari rolls his shoulders a few times to loosen up and he takes in a deep breath before letting it out slowly. "Well if we are both here we best not keep the fans waiting. Some are already looking to be on the rowdy side." he says and gives another grin. His hands grip the bata at each end as he holds it out in front of him while spreading his stance as well. He has a feeling if the guy is on wheels he is going to be a quick one so he will just have to try and keep his mistakes to a minimum and not leave many good openings for the other fighter to exploit. "Ready when you are."

COMBATSYS: Faolan has started a fight here.

Brett blinks a bit, looking around. "Rowdy?...if you say so," he says. Maybe he's got a different idea of just what constitutes 'Rowdy' when it comes to hockey fans. Brett doesn't frett about that distinction too long though. He turns back to Faolan, another nod to him as he finishes adjusting and tighting his helmet. He's got a surprising amount of articulation despite the thick padding of those gloves. A quick shift on his skates, making sure they're nice and loose, and a smile back to the crowd. Well...he can't let the sport down here...

And with that, he cracks the ground before him with the heel of his stick. Lurching low in a face-off stance, his head dips, before it rises up. Eyes are narrowed, pupils narrowed, brow furrowed...definitely a switch from his earlier nebbishness. Game-face time. "Ready," comes the low response.

COMBATSYS: Brett has joined the fight here.

That is what he likes to see. Someone who looks focused and ready to compete. Faolan is sure this should be a good one win or lose. The two men stare down for a few brief moments until the officials finally give the shout to get things started. Even then the mercenary doesn't move just yet. He has a few options swirling through his head on what to do, but in the end it looks like he decides to be the one to go on the attack. If Brett is faster it might be better he try to at least catch him by surprise this way and try to land the first hit.

He isn't exactly quick, but the mercenary releases the bata with one hand as he comes forward. He swings that arm back and then gives a swing aimed at slamming into the left shoulder of Brett. No reason to bring out the big guns yet, but it is a good way to feel out his opponent since all he really knows about Brett and what he might be able to do. If anything it will help him figure out how good the guy is at defendig himself.

Defense? Well, Brett seems to have a rather curious idea of what defense is, as the merc soon finds out. That idea seems to be 'race straight toward the threat wtih little-to-no concern of bodily harm'. The results tend to be....mixed. Sometimes, Brett can barrel through no problem. Other times, he gets smashed straight out of his sprint, just like what happens when that stick shot to his shoulder sends the hockey kid reeling. He's slowed, but not stopped thanks to his wheels. However, it also leaves him out of position enough that he's forced to brake the first chance he can.

"Nnnhh..." he groans. Not a good first start, and he's already been forced out of his chance to claim momentum first. Thankfully, he still has things he can do from a stop this far. Reeling his stick back, he shifts into a shooting position, and snaps his stick out as if making a slap-shot. As he follows through on the shot, an arcing wave of blue chi races across the ground, following the arc of his stick as it surges toward Faolan.

That bata lands cleanly and it is quickly pulled back away as Faolan steps back as he expects a swing of the hockey stick to be coming his way. The stick is used, but in a more creative fashion than what Faolan was thinking. On top of that he really wasn't expecting anything like the slap shot of chi that gets hurled his way. The distance does at least give him time to bring his bata up to allow it to take the brunt of the blow. The impact pushes him back a step he quickly regains his balance.

So the guy can attack from a distance so it might be best for Faolan not to play the waiting game. It might just end in Brett skating circles around him while throwing energy at him this way and that. THat is why he breaks into a run now to close the distance between the two once more. His hands shift more to the center of the bata as he looks to unleash to quick strikes, one from each end of the bata as he looks to just batter the other fighter's torso.

While he can certainly attack from a distance if he really wants to, Brett doesn't like to. He likes being in your face, in your chest, generally trying to move forward and toward his opponent as much as he can. So it shouldn't be too surprising that he doesn't wait to see the result of his Shark Crest before he's moving forward again. Plowing through, he comes in just behind, preparing himself to bowl right through Faolan. He doesn't come in soon enough to prevent the merc from recovering from the chi shot...but he doesn't seem to care either.

The windmilling strikes manage to smash at Brett's chest, but by then, he's built up too much speed and momentum. Blasting through the pain, he lifts up his stick, smashing through with a spinning high check straight for the Ikari's collarbone. That momentum takes him full way around to where he slams off his back foot and finishes with a ducking shoulder charge straight into Faolan's chest. "HRRAHH!!"

Well if Faolan wanted to get up close and personal in the fight it looks like Brett is more than happy to oblige. The two clash with the skater coming out on the better end of things. His momentum is fully stopped when Brett slams into him and there is a cracking noise from the impact before he is sent tumbling away from a second impact of the shoulder hitting him hard. It was painful, but then again this man is an Ikari. It certainly will take alot more than that to keep him down. After being run over by a tank getting tossed about like this isn't so bad.

"Heh, not bad at all." he says while getting back to his feet. He tries to get himself focused again as he shakes his head to clear out the cobwebs. Once he has his legs back under him fully he is on the move again. He comes right for Brett once again and looks ready to strike out with the bata once again, but at the last oment he swings wind then brings up a foot to deliver a rather quick kick to the other fighter's gut.

Some people who played against the Greyhounds compared the young Neuer to a tank...though most called it a bus instead for obvious reasons. Regardless, Brett hits hard enough and forceful enough that he still has the momentum to keep going, wheeling around in a long turn to keep up his speed as he turns back around toward Faolan. When he's back in range, he's forced to drop his stick down to help intercept the kick, spreading the force across the length of the stick so when it's shoved back into his gut, he's able to tank it thanks in part to his padding.

Wheeling around after that kick, Brett rotates his stick up, trying to hook the blade of it around the merc's neck so that continued momentum pulls him down into the ground. Kind of like that old Vaudeville hook, just a bit more painful.

He may be upright, it isn't for long. Faolan's attempt at surprising Brett ends in a rather painful way at that. As he tries to get both feet on the ground once more he finds himself hooked with the hockey stick and then he gets to have a meeting with the pavement. He was a bit too off balanced still to really have a chance at keeping himself upright and he is easily taken down. There is a grunt and he starts to get back to his feet. An arm wipes at his face where his nose and lip have been busted open. Even despite that he is actually grinning.

And he doesn't seem to be looking to slow down just yet. He pursues Brett once more as his bata crackles a bit as a blackish looking sort of energy spirals around it and seems to be gathering at the tip that is being thrust right Brett's way. Faolan looks to slam it into the other fighter's chest and unleashing the stored energy into the other fighter. A rather shockingly painful way at that.

COMBATSYS: Brett endures Faolan's Saying Hello.

Brett isn't slowing down much either, as he contniues to plow around, not taking one chance to stop to catch his breath. He's going now, and if he stops, he's going to have...issues. Even as he finds that black energy spiral thrust toward him, Brett doesn't hesitate. He even seems to give right into the shocking energy, despite the damage it promises to do.

And boy does it hurt, the energy thrust slamming straight into the hockey kid's back in a way that causes him to shudder....wait. His BACK? That's right. Sometime during the dive, Brett ended up flipped over, and while his forward motion was stalled thanks to that vicious electric shock, he still comes forward, finishing his flip forward as he tries to drive his heels straight into the top of Faolan's head, one after the other.

The guy is tough. Faolan cannot argue that. He might have to look into other tactics if this keeps up. He isn't quite sure what Brett has in mind when he finds himself hitting the other fighter in the back instead of his chest. It is something he soon finds out as the skater looks to be wanting to drive his skates right into the head of Faolan. Strangely it just seems like the Ikari is happy to stay right where he was at. Did he have something in mind? Whatever it was didn't seem to help given the fact those heels slam hard into his head and force him down to the ground where he manages to keep himself from going face first into the pavement once more. He tchs lightly and he starts to stand up. He never is fully back on his feet before lunging forward to drive his shoulder into Brett to knock the skater off balance. If he can manage to do that he starts swinging his bata like a madman. There isn't a limb on Brett's body that doesn't take a hit from the strikes if Faolan manages to overpower the younger fighter. All the while there is that crackling sound as energy gets built up once more and with one final thrust he looks to blast Brett away. "Hnnnnnggrrrraaaaaaaaaaah!"

Whoo boy. That wasn't something Brett was ready for. It didn't help that his Falling Star kick didn't make it easy to get back on the run, so to speak. So when the shoulder thrust comes, he's not prepared to pull out of the way, and what fallows....well, it isn't pretty. The physical blows, they alone wouldn't be too much for him, but the crackling energy blast from that final thrust? THAT...that's something that drops Brett to a stop completely. Groaning as he's blasted back far, the dazed hockey kid finds himself on his back and struggling to just get back to his feet.

So he doesn't. Instead, he pushes himself back, scooting away in a decidedly uncharacteristic moment as he tries to get breath back in his lungs. Still, that look in his eyes, as frayed and battered as he already looks, doesn't look like the look of someone ready to give up just yet.

COMBATSYS: Brett gains composure.

That flurry did have some effect on Faolan as well. He is a bit slow to move given the fact he just spent a good chunk of energy on unleashing such an attack. Even so it might have swung the odds more in his favor and it seems that such savagery might have the crowd worked up into even more of a frenzy as they watch the two men slug it out. Him needing a moment to recover is a blessing for Brett as well. The skater is at least given a few moments to try and gather his wits before finding the mercenary coming at him once more.

Faolan looks to close the distance once more as he raises his bata high. It isn't a pretty swing, but the downward motion means it is aimed to come down on the top of Brett's head. Something that probably isn't going to feel very well since it seems like finesse was exchanged for sheer power in the hopes of perhaps taking the man down with one mighty blow.

Brett tries to stop it as the merc comes in with a har downward strike, he truly does. But...well, from his crouched position, he's just plain out of position for it. He tries to lift his arm up, but the crashing blow cracked into his helmet something nasty and sends his head ringing. And from his crouched position, he's almost out for sure it seems.

But not yet. Rising up in a fit of last resort, he tries to jam himself up to his feet and hack relentlessly at Faolan's body with repeated spins of his stick, hoping to batter the merc like helicopter blades. It's not pretty...but hopefully it'll do the job.

It isn't a pretty fight at all. That is a fact. These two were perfect for the type of crowd that was drawn here to watch. If they wanted fancy they wouldn't be at a hockey game to begin with. It helps too that Brett's style just gives it a bit of a hockey feel to the fight as well. Both men are not looking in the best of shape now and it is amazing that both are even still standing given the kind of hits they have been taking. Faolan himself is feeling himself getting rather sore and winded as this fight goes on. Even worse he soon finds himself trying to deal with a flurry of blows from Brett and his hockey stick.

The Ikari uses his bata to try and deflect most and for the most part he manages to do so. Only a few slip through and when it looks like Brett is about to relent from his strikes he soon finds Faolan trying to jam the tip of his bata into his stomach and then heft him upwards. The mercenary grunts and he takes a deep breath as he focuses his energy into the bata once more and looks to fire Brett away with another blast of energy.

Unfortunately for Brett, he just was never able to recover from that stalled momentum from earlier. Unable to get his stick back down soon enough to stop the thrust, he gets the Bata straight to his gut and finds himself blasted away mercilessly. SLammed into a barricade, he seems about dead and gone...but by some miracle, he manages to rebound off the barricade long enough to stay on his feet. PUshing himself forward, he continues forward long enough to flip forward one last time, hopefully smashing his heels into Faolan's head once again...before finally falling immobile, breathing heavily, not quite unconscious, but obviously not about to fight again any time soon.

There is a bit of staggering as Faolan this time just tries to avoid both of those feet. It seems like it was a lesson learned well the last time as the heels aim to slam into his head once more. He just isn't fast enough to get out of the way in the end. Both those feet slam hard onto the top of his head once more and he is grounded as well. Where Brett might not be able to get up, Faolan manages to do so very slowly. He seems a bit punch drunk, but he does rise to his feet. It seems to be enough for them to declare him the winner as the crowd cheers at the performance the two fighters gave.

"Good job, fellah. Yer a tough one." the Ikari murmurs while rubbing at his busted nose a bit. "Hope to see you at the game. Drinks on me." he says as he cricks his neck a few times and starts to stagger off. Maybe he can get some time to ice down and clean up before he has to go drop the puck as well.

COMBATSYS: Faolan has ended the fight here.
