Description: Metro City's no stranger to violence. When the Chinese/Shadaloo joint army somehow pops up in droves, it's up to two fighters to somehow drive them back. Regardless of the outcome, it won't be anyone's final fight.
Metro City, a well known Crime Capital, was ruled by violence and death for many years.
A fact that mayor Mike Haggar changed.
At the center of the problem was the huge gang known as Mad Gear. Mad Gear controlled all of the major criminal activity in the city.
When they learned of Shadaloo's plans, they took immediate action to bring this to the attention of the mayor.
Sometime in early 2012...
"Hee hee hee, Mr. Haggar. So pleased to get back in touch with you." Says a certain familiar voice. "I believe you know who I am. Don't hang up! We have a little heads up for you... turn on your TV."
On the TV, none other than Damnd's laughing mug. "We're listening to reason, man." He says on the TV. "They're making our job difficult! We couldn't do as we please thanks to you, and now they're showing up! We're skipping town."
True enough, tanks and troopers are now flooding the streets of Metro City, numbering... well, let's not keep count. There's a lot. How did they even get here under the US military's noses? We aren't sure. This part may not be important.
The fact of the matter is, Metro City is being invaded - but the people here know a thing or two about taking to the streets with incredible odds against them, don't they? Not to make the matter trivial - it's gotten so bad even the Mad Gear guys (to the extent they can be considered a coherent organized threat any more) have decided to flee.
That's when you know things have gotten really bad. The Tiger Division, as it's called, doesn't have nearly as catchy a name as Mad Gear. This means they should be stopped. You know, that and the total threat against the American Way.

It's one thing to be dealing with the Mad Gears, a gang who just never seems to learn when to leave well enough alone. Just ask Mike Haggar... or Maki Genryuusai for that matter. Having had to deal with her sister and father being kidnapped by them herself, Maki's considered them to be one of her biggest rivals. But that may now change, although whether temporarily or pemanently is yet to be seen.
The Tiger Division isn't as well known as the Mad Gears, but given that they're making the Mad Gears look like schoolyard bullies, Maki's really mad! In fact, she's even come out in person to deal with this threat herself! This may seem like a bit of a harsh maneuever on Maki's part, but what Maki lacks in size she makes up for in courage and skills!
As the Tiger Division makes their way into Metro City, countless people are standing behind police barricades, wondering what's going to happen. Their eyes then shift to one woman in red, Maki herself, as she leaps over the barricade and then says, "Fellow citizens, you have no need to worry. I will do my best to protect you. I may seem like one woman against the countless odds, but I've endured many hardships in one lifetime, and I'll gladly give anything to see to it that the people of Metro City are protected at any cost!" With that, Maki raises her tonfa into the air, and the people break into loud cheers. Maki doesn't bother to acknowledge in any way. Instead, she grips her tonfa sternly and looks on towards the advancing Tiger Division. "Come on, do your worst!"
Zach Glen is feeling a little jet-lagged, having flown in from Kazahkstan. Command sent him here to, at least in theory, cool his heels after the muck-up (from Command's perspective) in Mogolia. The psion was walking the streets when Shadaloo makes its push into Metro City. He lets out a low whistle. "/That/," Zach say as he ducks under the police line, "Is a /lot/ of troops."
One of cops tries to bar the short man's path, but stops when Zach flashes some identification. "And tanks. And trucks." Zach says. "I really hate trucks," he comments before Maki makes with the speeching. He smirks as he pulls a wakazashi free. "Genryuusai," he says by way of greeting before shifting the blade to gauntlet form.
"This will be different," he admits as he brings a fist back. Golden Soul Power builds up around the clenched hand. "LET'S GO!" he yells as he thrusts the shining hand forward, unleashing a burst of psycho-kinetic energy at the lead tank!

It /is/ a lot of troops. They also look and move a lot alike, their animation strangely... limited, as they take the challenge of these two warriors with all the seriousness and silence of Mad Gear gangsters that roamed these streets up until now.
The lead tank deftly seems to maneuver as such that the energy blast seems to glance just off of its side in a harrowing near-death experience while numerous infantry flood the streets. They are particularly unruly in their silence - in fact, there's way, way, way more of them at once than the Mad Gears ever threw at anybody at once.
How rude! The way they threaten to beat both Zach and Maki down with rifle butts and bayonets in their forward march is not really too far out of the typical fighting etiquette.

Those rifles and bayonets may look fierce and imposing to the citizens of Metro City, but for Maki, they're just another standard weapon to deal with. After all, she's been beaten, burned, stabbed, among other things, so these aren't too much of a problem for her. As one of the soldiers come for her, Maki brings up her tonfa to try to knock the bayonet away, which in turn gives her a possible opening for a counter attack... once she regains her footing from being slightly off-balance.
"You fools, daring to strike the United States of America? You've made the worst mistake of your lives!" Maki exclaims as she attempts to drive her tonfa into the stomach of the soldier she just deflected.
"Shit," Zach grunts as he promptly gets swarmed for his insolence. Glen staggers under the assault, looking for an opening to start swinging again. Thankfully, aside from Maki, the area in front of him is clear of people he'd be concerned with hurting. After a moment, Zach decides to start swinging at anything wearing a Shadaloo uniform.
He starts small, attempting to get into a rhythm of Soul Powered punches, parries, blocks and more punches. He heaves a sigh between punches as Maki makes Yet Another Bold Declaration. "Seriously, lady," he calls out over the din of the melee, "Less yak, more smack."
He puts his own advice to work, laying into the troops with a passion.

When it comes to hand-to-hand, in the end, both Zach and Maki prevail. Maki tries to take them more methodically, one by one. To her credit, she takes out that /one/ soldier with aplomb, enough that the others nearby start to back away for positioning's sake.
Zach just lays into them so hard that by the time he's done, one might even imagine seeing a giant 'GO!' arrow pointing further down the streets of Metro - but this is just the warm-up. No matter how many strangely similar-looking goons they beat down... there's a lot more. More than the Mad Gear gang ever threw at them in a given crime cleansing campaign.
Zach might find his forward march abruptly stopped by the tank he glanced by that psionic blast earlier, but fortunately, he's a bit too close for its main gun to be able to shoot him (still don't want to get run over by the treads, though, even though this time it politely stops).
The cannon goes off moments later, a flak shell that threatens to just explode and lacerate her numerous times over if she doesn't get out of the way or show off some particularly impressive defensive maneuver to ward the blast off.

Sometimes, there's no way of avoiding certain things, and Maki knows that there's nothing else to do but do the best she can to try to avoid being hit. Unfortunately, that backfires, and Maki finds herself receiving numerous lacerations from the shrapnel. Not to mention the burning sensation that goes with it. Some might think Maki is crazy taking on these armed forces along with Zach, insead of letting the armed forces do it. But Maki's courage never diminishes.
No more yakking, just attacking. At least, that's what Maki intends to do once she's surveyed the entire batallion. Given that she nearly got flakked to death, Maki doesn't feel like taking chances.

Zach looks up at the tank looming over him like some kind of steel behemoth of legend with a look of chagrin on his face. "Well, I can stop a truck," he muses. "Let's see if I can move a tank." Zach ducks to his left, before lunging upward into a springing uppercut.
This may, or may not, turn out very well. Then again, less that a week ago, Zach was punching rockets out of the air on the other side of planet. Insane displays of power and athletic ability seem to be the order of the day for the time being...

The tank was not going to sit there and politely wait for Zach to go on ahead and do his little funny uppercut business. No, it was ready to start rolling forward to shove him over.... just in time for him to uppercut with the same sort of strength that the feared Vega calls his own. The power of one's own soul and self, given form, in a truly destructive (and really cool if, mysteriously, very pixellated) explosion that doesn't just take out the tank - it starts a small chain reaction between it and another tank, taking a goodly number of soldiers with it.
Fire scathes the streets in its wake - some buildings start to catch fire. Zach need not worry too much about casualties - this particular street was very very quickly evacuated, but it should serve as a reminder of what sorts of things he can accomplish with his power if he's not careful.
Through the flames and the smoke, troops are coming in again - but now, maybe Maki and Zach can both go on and continue to greet them on their own terms.
Maki gives a slight nod to Zach in approval of how Zach handled that last bit, then turns her attention to the troops. She rushes towards another group of them, looking like a kamikaze pilot on foot, wanting to take out as much as they can in one crash. Of course, Maki's not just a kamikaze. When she gets in close enough, she demonstrates what she's really got in mind.
Her intent is to catch the troops off-guard, then drop down onto the ground. When she hits the ground, Maki will spin around with her leg outstretched, all while balancing on the tip of her tonfa.
Zach lands from his spring, shaking his left hand loosely. He lets out a low whistle. He doesn't /LIKE/ the mess he is making, but there are certain things that are expected from a defiant defender like the wandering psion. He watches Maki leap into the fray.
He recognizes the stance, and opts to stay out of that blender for the moment, gathering his power around him. Golden light sheathes his frame, intensifying around the armored hands.

Maki's got her heart in the right place for crowd control, but the troops that come following after are not only of a slightly different color - they are magnitudes better trained, most of them falling to defensive positions that lean backwards and away. This, and the spotting of Zach's energy through the flames gives them the incentive and time to reload their guns after an earlier shoot-out with whatever passed for proper law enforcement here (that isn't District 8, those guys are badass and are probably the reason why this fight is still possible to win).
"Fighter scum!" Someone says, although their voice is painfully hard to understand. It's not just accent, it's... fidelity? Like they're speaking like they're an old audio sample. "Lay down and die!"
Though it takes them a moment to really get everything together, they start spraying shots down the alley that should start (in theory) pinning them down while their backup of More Tanks(tm) and Even More Soldiers(tm) come down the line.

First shrapnel, now bullets. Maki finds herself getting pelted nonstop today, making her look more like the color of her uniform. Bloodied, bruised, and feeling a bit worn down, Maki takes a deep breath and attempts to get herself ready for another go round. Of course, when you're on the losing end of a battle, you tend to get frustrated at times as well, and that's exactly how Maki is feeling now.
Looking around for something to use to blow off some steam, Maki grabs a nearby police barricade that was knocked down, and hurls it at the soldiers. All the while, she's thinking in her mind, "Let's see ya catch that!"
Zach is peppered with bullets. There was simply nothing the psion could do to stop that many bullets. The ferocity of the assault shouldn't surprise him, but for some reason it does. Bloody marks and cuts appear all over Zach's body. He needs to wrap this up quickly. He needs something to somehow break the morale of the enemy division.
A display of power, one for which the Marines "recruited" him for, may just do the trick.
Zach steps forward, getting between Maki and the Chinese/Shadaloo horde that attacks them. "Move," he says none too gently, raising his right hand to the sky. Golden light springs from the opened palm, lancing into the night sky, throwing light and shadows across the landscape.
"Miraitou," he intones, before bringing the column of Soul Power crashing down upon the hapless troops and tracks.

The great column of psionic energy is met with a gaze from all those there. They all stop what they're doing, even as Maki hurls a barricade to not much effect (other than knocking over a few soldiers). Their communication is top notch - it's said straight from the get go, from on high, to not stand there.
It's to get the hell out of that alley, and get the hell out of the alley a lot of the soldiers do. It narrowly saves their lives - but there is nothing they can do to save the vehicles within reach of Zach's miraculous psi beam that could - and would - flatten so many of them. It cuts through machinery in twain with such decisive power that explosions dot the entire alley further.
Somewhere, insurance companies weep. Some people might feel sad for their homes. But Zach's superiors, certainly, smile in his embracing of his strength as opposed to the great hesitance he showed back in Mongolia.
Zach has proven himself such a threat that one of the artillery folks loads a napalm shell and, after some calculations, fires it all the way down the alley in hopes of making contact with Zach, to burn him up and maybe take a whole lot of wind out of his sails.
That said, Zach has shown what he was capable of - now it's Maki's turn to step up as the soldiers come back out to see that it's safe to continue their advance against them.

Maki shakes her head as things start to heat up for Zach, but they leave her alone. Apparently, they must think Zach is a bigger threat than she is. Maki simply shrugs it off a little before going towards the next few soldiers near her. "All right, boys, so you want a piece of me?" A few twirls of her tonfa will most likely indicate that she's not backing down, although it won't scare them off.
"Well, you're going to have to get me first!" Maki then attempts to deliver a flurry of tonfa techniques against the soldiers in a rapid succession.
The shell catches Zach square in the chest, napalm splattering around him. The flames immediately suck the oxygen out of the air around him, taking his breath away in a sudden wash of heat and pain.
Zach staggers around a bit, trying to recover his sense of, well, /anything/. It wouldn't do to start slinging power around if he cannot make out targets. Maki may need to buy Zach some time.

Maki sure is buying them some time, all right, whacking away at the soldiers that come out - she's doing double, possibly triple time here. Zach may be the master blaster, but Maki's been doing this whole 'dealing with crowds of mooks' thing for quite some time - he may stand to learn a couple of pointers from her on the finer details.
The only problem is that they've started to send more vehicular-based reinforcements, and one such truck starts hurtling down the alley, crunching over numerous flaming wrecks like they're nothing more than speed-bumps. The driver is actually pretty scared for his life - moreso the ones that are /in/ the truck waiting to be properly deployed. They draw ever and ever closer to Maki...
In the flurry of blows, Maki knocks one soldier so powerfully that they are launched a ways into the distance, where they break through the windshield and tackle the driver. The truck immediately sputters out of control and crashes through a building as it falls over in a gigantic dust cloud with rubble falling down all around them as the truck stops nail-bitingly close in front of Maki.
Several more soldiers pop out, rattled - not all of them likely survived it, but their problems are not over yet.
Maki does a double-take as she watches one of the soldiers go flying. "You're kidding, right? You're supposed to be taking over this city, but you can't even handle something like that?!" Maki bursts into hysterical laughter for a moment before adding, "Don't make me laugh-- oh wait, you already did!" Of course, more enemy forces are making their presence known, and Maki knows that it's only going to be tougher from here, given how angry the soldiers probably are.
"They say there is safety in numbers," Maki comments to herself, "But there's also the saying that big things come in small packages." Maki closes her eyes. "Which holds true more? Only time will tell."

Zach puts out the flames with a quick expedient of stop, drop, and roll, before wobbling back to his feet. He sights down the alleyway, starting to walk once more towards the horde of soldiers. Golden light washes over Zach has he brings up his hands, pointing the index and middle fingers at the troops piling into the makeshift arena.
"Bang," Zach says softly as he continues his advance, peppering the crowd with small bolts of precisely targetted soul power. One shot for each of as many troops Zach can target in the handful of seconds before he is among them.

Zach fires off blast after blast after blast after blast to try and keep the momentum up while Maki falls back upon her sassy ways, but Zach may notice something curious. Sure, he gets maybe... a couple of them, at most, but there are some that seem capable of withstanding it, to an extent.
Heavily armored troops! Some manage to survive even a single blast (they wouldn't survive two), perhaps owed to by some reflective surfaces on bits and pieces of their uniform. However... that's not the worst of it.
"HA! HA! HA!" Comes some monotone laughter, like some sort of reused voice byte. Seriously, it sounds the same three times over. "YOU ARE NO MATCH. GIVE UP!" This comes the voice of a very, very large man who is not in uniform dress - they don't even seem to be wearing a shirt, come to think of it, beyond two very thick armbands and a distinctive top-knot hairstyle of a greenish color (seriously, green, what?).
They flex mightily as a bunch of other soldiers come from out of the woodwork. This is, no doubt, The Boss - Maki could probably walk Zach through proper boss fighting procedure, especially considering all he does is posture for the most part atop the fallen truck while beckoning other troops to come fill the ground around him.
"METRO CITY BELONGS TO US. IT IS MINE. I WILL CALL IT WANTON CITY." He declares in yelling monotone, somehow. His yelling is the least of anyone's concerns, though, given that the soldiers are going back into the business of walking forward and mobbing Zach and Maki, trying to pin them down and restrain them more than anything.

Grab Maki and you won't get away with it. In fact, Maki is grabbed, albeit briefly, but manages to slip out of the grasp of her aggressor. "Keep your filthy hands to yourselves!" Maki screams angrily as she wipes herself off as if to 'rub it in.' "I don't want to be contaminated with whatever the hell it is that's posessed you to invade our city!" That last phrase is said in a tone that indicates something's not right here.
"You've pushed me far enough... Now you're gonna see what I do with scum like you!" Maki jumps onto a nearby police barricade, then literally flies directly at a batallion of soldiers with a missle-style flying kick. Maki's kick looks like it could easily pierce through the soldiers, and maybe even go partway through a vehicle too if she hits it hard enough!
Zach is promptly piled upon by a football team's worth of soldiers. Somewhere, there is a jamming of buttons as some pimply kid swears at his game console. Light starts to leak out of the pile of troops, first a few motes, then shafts of yellow light.
Zach lurches upright, throwing a corkscrew uppercut that is aimed at scattering the assorted troops around him with a resounding cry of "HEARTBREAK SHOT!" and a spiraling of Soul Power around him!

Zach just can't seem to get a break, but it just may be that these assorted troops just might be better equipped for handling psionic powers - a better-honed instinct for detecting when it's about to manifest, skilled maneuvers in which to move out of the way - still, their assault's not about to get any more intense (can it, really?) so he might be able to manage himself for a while and figure out the best way to run them over.
Maki, meanwhile, scatters so many of them away. She might lose count of how many fly off under her powerful flying kick - even when she manages to hit the overturned truck hard enough that it actually slides a good foot or so.
"WHOA. WHOA! WHOOOOA." The apparent boss flails his arms before proceeding to fall butt-first upon Maki. Now, we're not saying that his weight is comparable to that of a tank. Yet, somehow, she might get the feeling - if struck - that this guy falling on anyone would in fact be pretty much as bad as being run over by a tank, if she's not careful.
At least he'd be down on the ground so they can beat him up already. Chances are they'll keep coming unless they nail him - as Maki could tell Zach. It's Metro City Gang Fighting 101.

The tank comes rolling towards Maki... and Maki just stands there, smirking wryly. "You want me? Come get me!" Maki smirks even more as the tank comes cloesr and closer. Then, just before it hits Maki, she leaps out of the way, giving a razz to the tank operator... if he can see her that is. "You have to catch me first, though!"
Maki then turns her attention to a nearby soldier. "And as for you, grunt, you're gonna learn the same lesson I taught your colleagues a moment ago!" She finishes that sentence with a swift strike of her tonfa.
Zach figures that perhaps the crazy power displays are not going to cut it this time around. Typical, he thinks. Can't seem to get the right results regardless of route he takes. Zach decides to get back to basics for a time.
Zach makes his way towards the first mook, and fires of a quick left jab at him. He simply continues to jab away at everyone that is not Maki that shows up in front of him. It may or may not help to suppliment each of those jabs with a burst of Soul Power.

...Yeah, tank operator, uh, okay, sure, Maki, we can... pretend that. Okay. Ahem. Anyway, the big ol' fat boss slowly lumbers along up to his really tiny feet, fists out at the ready as the two of them relatively ineffectually swat at the hordes. They're landing blows, but they're just not strong enough to really put dents in the numbers compared to how many seem to be flooding in.
"HA HA! LET US START WITH GIRL." The fat one says as he pats his belly (a special attack tell, totally), before suddenly launching at her. Everyone else? Guns are suddenly raised, opening fire upon her while the boss is looking to splatter her from the picture entirely.
Think fast! Overwhelm them before they overwhelm you!
Zach is starting to waver, both from wounds and from exhaustion. This is easily one of the most trying and tiring things he has tried to do. He is still not sure what he was thinking. It might be considered a miracle that Zach has lasted this long against the arrayed forces of China and Shadaloo.
The Boss goes after Maki. The troops go after her as well. They are leaving Zach unattended for the moment, allowing him to regather his resources. Maybe just a bit more will enable him to puch through.

Maki is hit, in fact hit quite a bit. In fact, it's a surprise she doesn't splatter on the ground dead. But she is in pretty bad shape. In fact, Maki pushes herself up using her tonfa, and even then it's obvious she's struggling. Thinking quickly, Maki attempts to find something to help her out... then spots an abandoned hot dog stand. She smashes it with her tonfa, hoping there's something inside she can use... and finds a bottle of water. She gulps it down quickly.

"HA! HA! HA! THEY COWER." So giggles the big old boss who really needs to be swatted down right about now, seriously, why are you fishing for food and drink, Maki? Both she and Zach look ready to hit the hay at any moment - isn't it best to finish things? The Tiger Divison, or what's left of it, sure thinks so.
"OKAY. NOW LITTLE NIGHT LIGHT BOY GOES LIGHTS OUT," so he commands with the pointing of a corpulent finger as more of those armored goons in somewhat reflective armor go to mob him down. The worst part about all this is that these guys are gonna be all over the later stages. Is Zach going to be ready for that?
He'd better be.

Zach has caught his breath, and is ready to re-engage. Maki takes a breather as the psion steps in, raising an open right hand. "Don't sweat it," Zach advises. "I got this."
The opposing army gets enough warning; Zach is building up power around that mailed palm. Zach steps in, and brings the hand down with a sweeping motion. The sky rips open, raining down razor-thin sheets of Soul Power all aimed at the crowd of thugs and boss!
Maki finishes her water, and then notices how Zach is being targeted. Feeling a little more strength in her body, but not much, Maki nonetheless attempts to help finish things up here. She takes a running jump towards one of the remaining soldiers and attempts to grab his neck while she's in the air. If she's successful, she'll flip over and throw him onto the ground!

Seconds after Zach calls the rain, he is mobbed by armored men. Zach lowers his center of gravity, bearing up under the assault, keeping his feet only through determination and balance.

Maki doesn't just flip one of them into the ground - the ground is crawling with these guys. Flipping about anyone anywhere is, by default, going to be taking down pretty much anyone and anything running around nearby. Considering that the vast majority of them don't get up after that well-placed slam, she's... probably okay to go back and start pigging out on more Metro City food.
Zach, however, brings down the real decisive blow as the big man's eyes go wide. Like any of Metro City's first run bosses, this guy is basically all talk as the wave of energy of a very curiously familiar pattern crashes down on the lot of them. The big fat man (somehow) flies by in slow motion to an echoing cry of a really grating sound sample of a yell, bouncing twice against the pavement before everything goes quiet.
ROUND CLEAR
Sure, things are on fire and there's a giant mess of an overturned truck and there's unconscious (...or worse?) bodies littered everywhere, but now, Maki and Zach have - for the time being - put a halt to the invasion.
Sadly, the Mad Gear thugs might move back in now that things are quieting down. Looks like you can't escape street violence here - there will never be a true final fight for peace.
