SNF 2012.01 - SNF: "It Is Very Dark In Here"

Description: Both Munin and Fuji are...unusual people. Very little is known about them, but they have a common thread: darkness. Rumors abound that the former manipulates it, and the latter is outright blind. (NOTE: The Masters Corporation is an equal-opportunity employer.) Of course, people start to wonder: who's stronger, the woman that weaponizes the shadows, or the one that lives in them? These two have been whisked away to a proper dojo, albeit one with its windows and entryways completely covered over to make the interior as dark as pitch. A single, weak, shorted-out light hangs overhead, giving -just- enough light to create shadows here. Both Munin and the cameras have been given infrared devices so they can actually see what's going on.

There are sporting events that draw the attention of fighters everywhere. Fighters so amazing duking it out on the screen for all to see.

This isn't one of them. It IS, however, a televised fight, in a near Pitch black Dojo, with little more than a partially burnt out lightbulb swinging overhead. We are talking of course about Dojo Hibiki. Why did the fight organizers use this space? Because it's amazing, it suits the needs of the battle...! ...Okay, really? Dan was short the 50 bucks he needed to clear the rent. The skylights on the ceiling had been covered in blankets, the minor colors on the walls. Tatami mats on the floor had all been removed, leaving a barren floor. While a little harder to find, Fuji has had to make her way here. She was late, but was running her hands along the walls, feeling out where her boundaries are. She was smartly dressed, but even in such a dark room, she still wears Sunglasses. Why is that?

Oh. Right. The "being blind" thing.

She inhaled slowly. The air was dusty here for whatever reason. People should invest more time into cleaning their places. She rested on her cane, while the SNF Broadcasters re-capped her and her fighting style. If it were to be broadcast, it'd probably be in a dingy little bar or something.

When word came down about this 'match in the dark', Munin honestly wasn't sure whether to be amused or annoyed. After all, a fight in a pitch black room, even with a single light bulb? That IS still potentially something of a handicap for her, since she CAN see. What if her goggles are damaged in the fight?

Sometimes the path of the warrior really really can be annoying. Then again, it could get interesting.

She watches as Fuji 'inspects' the environment, also noting to take into account such details as well, in case such could be used to her advantage. What has really drawn her to this match particularly is the idea of dueling a blind opponent. She's heard old stories and legends of blind warriors, but never seen one personally, let alone gotten to fight one. Even if the view is through the green-tint of a pair of NVGs.

That detail alone makes her have a bit more respect for Fuji as a fighter outright than most other people, even if she would never admit it.

She calls out "I'm ready to begin when you are.", letting her opponent know precisely where she is in the room. Munin then draws her weapons and waits for the cue to begin.

The blind woman turned her head as she heard the sliding of metal from a sheath. Her body followed, her body standing in profile, facing the woman standing opposite her. One... No. Two blades. Interesting. Slowly, almost dramatically, the woman standing before Munin lifted both hands to her collar, and popped it, leaving her tie intact, as she undid her jacket. "Mm. Two weapons. One user." She mused openly. She draped her coat over her shoulder then, wielding her cane in her right hand. She rolled her shoulders then. "I trust you know how to use a blade, let alone two."

She stepped back, then, and readied herself. "Blindness is no impairment... to a loud enemy."

COMBATSYS: Fuji has started a fight here on the left meter side.

Munin smirks as her opponent steps up and prepares. Cane fighting? Interesting. It means that she is armed everywhere, and no one would ever suspect it to be so. "True, though it wouldn't be as interesting if you didn't know where i was to begin with, and standing face to face. Whatever anyone else says, blindness can be an advantage if used properly". (I'm just glad i'm not...) she ponders as she brings her weapons up, waiting for the cue. "Good luck to you".

COMBATSYS: Munin has joined the fight here.

The dark haired woman lifted her head-- it was hard to see her face because of her dark tresses, but the white from her shirt was clearly visible in her nightvision goggles. She shifted her body. She had an eerie vibe-- confidence(?) about standing before another weapon user. She flipped her cane then, catching it by the butt, holding it hook side down. "Are you ready?" Said the announcer. "Fight!" Fuji instantly shot in, but it wasn't her weapon she was firing....

...It was her jacket? A distraction, for the flying kick immediately following it.

COMBATSYS: Fuji successfully hits Munin with Blinded Me With Science.

The distraction works, as sadly, Munin watches the cane. When Fuji comes in and attacks, the kick is not seen until it hits her nice and hard. She recovers from the strike quickly, but takes a moment to track her opponent. She's never worn NVGs before, so the changes to her view are a bit unbalancing. (Note to self: Watch her feet).

Wasting no time, Munins swords begin to glow with dark purple energy. She swings one towards Fuji, sending an arc of shadowy chi at her, the attack near-invisible in the darkness of the room, and aside from the weapon hissing through the air, completely silent as far as Munins ears can tell.

COMBATSYS: Fuji dodges Munin's Shadow Wave.

The dark haired woman's attack connects, and in the process of kicking Munin in the face, She retrieves her coat back, again putting her jacket back on her shoulder. She lifted her head, expecting an immediate counter-- and she was right. almost immediately, she sensed an aura. Chi. Shifting, Fuji could sense this chi being fired at her. It had to have been a projectile. there were two aura she could sense. One coming from her, and the other behind it. Instinct made her jump to the right, avoiding the wave as it went crashing towards the wall, being negated by the soundproofing in the room. Fuji used this lag in Munin's attack to come straight for her, cane held high. She got in the woman's face, but rather than attack with the cane, came another jacket-- in the form of an uppercut. "CHEEN-MUSIC..!"

COMBATSYS: Fuji successfully hits Munin with Chin Music for the Blind.

Once again, the feint works, and Munin sees the brightness of the jacket in her NVGs and misses the real direction of the attack. The uppercut strikes her cleanly under the chin, and she reels backwards in pain. The attack also disorients her further, and she hops back, trying to give herself some manuevering room.

A slight violet glow can be seen around the edges of her goggles as she eyes her opponent veeeery carefully. Those sneaky misdirective attacks are suprisingly well-executed, and she does NOT want to be caught by another!

COMBATSYS: Munin focuses on her next action.

Again, the dark haired woman's attack connects, reeling back a dual bladed fighter with goggles on. In the darkness, for both the camera and Munin, saw a suprisingly graceful woman standing, ready for a counter. However, Munin decidec to stand back and catch her bearings, allowing Fuji full reign of the battlefield. "Hrm." Fuji said slowly, as if she was taking a similar stance to profile the woman before her, before she tried another attack. She came at Munin from the front, utilizing her jacket again, throwing it towards Munin's Night Vision goggles, while Fuji went low, a balled up fist aiming for the midsection. "Eat this...Ha! Blue Monday...!" You are lucky, Munin. Grown men get this attack about 5 inches lower.

COMBATSYS: Munin fails to counter Blue Monday from Fuji with Shadow Counter.

Fuji             0/-------/----===|=======\=------\1            Munin

The reaction from Munin is swift! Too bad it's inaccurate. Her attack goes quite swiftly and accurately at the jacket, likely making it only half a jacket as a result. The first sign, however, that something is wrong to her is the lack of a strong feeling of impact.

The second is a lack of a sound from her opponent, even if it was only a grunt as the attack was blocked.

A third never reaches her mind due to the planting of a fist in her gut, knocking the air from her lungs as it strikes home most effectively. She starts to cough as the need for air in her lungs, combined with the shock of the blow, makes her pause for a few precious seconds!

So far in this battle, Fuji had been walking all over Munin. If Munin was to learn anything from this battle it would be that noone should ever be underestimated, as the well dressed woman in front of her retrieved her jacket from the blow, before she stood up. "I can sense your prowess." She said slowly, righting herself. Fuji had yet to strike her with her cane, as lethal as the rest of the fighter may have been concerned. Fuji was not to be overlooked. She has seemingly surpassed the need for it, judging from the way she stands tall, and confident. She knew Munin was looking for air, and was hunched over. Perfect. Fuji shot to the side, approaching Munin with an overhead, split leg axe kick, eagar to finish the fight and get on with her day. "HEE...YA...!"

COMBATSYS: Munin blocks Fuji's Strong Kick.

Actually, Munin hasn't underestimated anyone at all. She fully expected Fuji to be competant. Blind or not, few live long enough to this point without being at least competant at least. This is only proven further by how she's so far been trouncing Munin into the ground seemingly without any effort.

Down but not yet out, however! She grunts with the effort as she brings up the flats of her blades to block the incoming kick, which stops just above her face.

It did come close, however, as the NVGs crack and fall off on either side, split right down the middle, leaving Munin with only the light of the bulb to see, and her other senses, as her eyes blaze with violet light in the darkness. She smirks as she does her best to grab Fujis leg and throw her, hard, into the floor!

The foot is blocked by both legs, and Fuji tried to turn the move into an advantage with a throw-- only to find out that Munin had a throw of her own waiting. Next thing Fuji knew, she was laying on her back after tumbling. She laid there only momentarily. Her cane was far away from her. As was her jacket. She stood up, then, and breathed in. "Hmmph. Not bad." she said. Now unarmed. She did something then, sticking out her right hand. From far away, her cane began to rattle, being pulled forcefully back into the grip of the young woman, who dropped her cane down to her side, crook nearly touching the ground. "Maybe it is I who should stand and learn from you. Now, come at me. Bring everything you've got!"

Munin tilts her head, and considers this. She thinks to herself (Well.... why not!). She's already getting banged up pretty nicely. If her best can't stand up, then it means she needs to train better than she has been, for all the difference that has seemed to make so far. The cane returning to Fujis hand, barely visible in the light, however, makes her VERY cautious. Chi attacks she has seen. Telekenesis? THAT is something else entirely "How the.... Never mind".

She decides it best to play it safe, rushing in only so far, and abruptly stopping, Chi blaring from her eyes in a bright burst. At this range, it may be enough to throw off whatever sense Fuji is using to keep her bearings!

COMBATSYS: Fuji blocks Munin's Flashbang.

The woman standing before Munin didn't even seem to flinch at the offer that she made for Munin to openly attack her like that. Shifting, she only took a mere half a step back, her whole arm coming up, and blocking these... eye lasers that Munin was firing at her. Huh. It felt like Chi. Perhaps Munin is more adept than she thought. A touch predictable, but still like a child, to a certain extent. "...Interesting." She said, almost not even phased by the power of the attack. It had some bite to it, but there was potential for more bite, with the right kind of training. Fuji stepped forward, against these lasers, and held her cane up, suddenly rushing against the grain with a flurry of cane jabs... with the blunt end!

COMBATSYS: Munin fails to counter Armed Combo from Fuji with Double Vision.

Munins form begins to shimmer as Fuji comes in, but it seems to be for naught as she is pummeled with the cane. Each strike rings through the quiet, darkened dojo as her body rocks with each blow, consciousness and awareness beginning to leave her battered form. All is not lost just yet, though.

As the last strike sends her on her back, she slowly and shakily pulls herself up, smiling slightly in the darkness, as she has fallen outside the ring of light the small bulb produces. Her eyes are mere pinpricks of light at this point as she comments through her pained breathing "Your.... better than most would expect. I can.... see how you.... got this far".

Fuji could detect this shimmer from Munin. She had to act fast to avoid being hurt by Munin, so the several jabs would connect. Though Munin was knocked out of the ray of light, Fuji could still sense her. Bending over slowly, she picked up her jacket, and put it on her shoulder-- but rather than take an aggressive move towards you, she stepped forward slowly.

"You're pretty beat up." she mused. "You have the potential to be talented as well." She flipped her cane around, leaning on it before the other woman. "If I struck you now, I would surely beat you, yes? I can tell by your breathing." The woman before Munin walked right into the light. "Unfortunately, I have to win. Not because I want to, but because I need to." She stepped back. "Don't get knocked out. Maybe I'll buy you a burger. I learned something today." She took a power-step forward, unleashing her cane. She's throwing her only weapon?

Don't get knocked out? A funny thing to say to an opponent, although the idea of food does appeal to her. Food is tasty. Munin shakes her head suddenly to clear it, as the world seems to swim around her. Her stomach throbs due to lack of food... or was it being hit? She only partially recalls clearly.

The world falls back into somewhat-clear focus when the cane is sent her way! Munin drops one of her swords, and grabs for the 'Trophies' sign sitting on the table she conveniently landed next to, and throws it in an attempt to intercept the cane!

Alas, she forgets that this sign belongs to Dan, on top of not being aerodynamic, and is therefore cursed to not be of much use! Her head reels back as the cane barges past the flimsy sign and clonks her right in the head, and she promptly falls to the ground in a daze, although the hit isn't severe enough to induce actual unconsciousness. Her other sword also clatters to the floor alongside the offending cane.

She isn't out, but this match is definately over.

Calmly, the woman wearing the sunglasses in the near pitch black room steps forward and retrieves her cane, stepping aside the well dazed woman. She stood over Munin quietly. She pinched her cane between her knees as she put her jacket back on and unpopped her collar. she studied her jacket with her hands, to make sure her jacket wasn't seriously cut or anything. The only thing bruised on Fuji? Her ass was a little sore from the hard landing, and a light graze on her left arm. With the right training, Munin could be a force to reckon with-- once she learned how to channel it. She turned her crook upside down again, holding it down towards Munin slowly. "Grab this." She said. "I'll help you up. Let's go get sushi or something." Mmm... Sushi.
