Match of the Millennium

Description: Dating back to the eleventh century, the magnificent Westminster Abbey is once again opening its doors to the fighting world! The lucky lasses who'll get the honour of competing here are Manchester born former NFG star Sarah and Metro City parole officer Angelina. The latter has a penchant for praying, whereas the former is more usually found behind the decks as a DJ. Perhaps she can turn this into a Ministry of Sound?

[ANGELINA]
Angelina Isabella Benedetti is in awe of the sight she sees before her. She's always dreamed of visiting London. She'd not had time to take the city in on her last and only visit to England. She'd also been in the country for a Saturday Night Fight on that occasion, competing in a Halloween themed event set in a creepy castle in Northumberland, the far north east of the country. The weather is a lot more clement today, and then there's the beautiful building she's stood in front of, Westminster Abbey.

"Seventeen royal weddings have taken place at Westminster Abbey, with the most recent happening on the 29th April 2011. I'm sure you all know that was the royal wedding of the now Prince of Wales, William, and the then Miss Kate Middleton, who is now the Princess of Wales." The tour guide stops to let some of her group snap pictures before continuing on with her well practiced speech. "Henry 1st and his bride Matilda of Scotland were the first couple to exchange vows at the Abbey in 1100."

Angelina moves past the tourists to enter the interior of the church, making a sign of the cross as she steps over the threshold. The establishment isn't Roman Catholic, the faith she herself follows, but it is nonetheless a holy place and she's proud to get the opportunity to perform here.

She's chosen to dress today in her white Aikido robes. Her feet currently have simple tan leather sandals on them but these will be slipped off once she starts the match. As she moves through the foyer to enter the heart of the building, she gasps at how breathtakingly beautiful it is. Stained glass windows, polished wooden pews and a stunning high arched ceiling are just some of the dramatic details. When she looks down at the tiled black and white floor, she realises that a large fighting mat has been placed upon it at the widest areas. Rows of wooden chairs run along either side and most of them are already occupied with fighting fans.

Angelina gives a wave and walks over to the mat, performing some simple stretches to prepare for the battle ahead. In the background, someone seems to playing an organ. The tune is a well-known classical piece that the parole officer doesn't know the name of.

[SARAH]
Westminster Abbey. A place that Sarah Ashley Kuzumi knows very well. She's been there quite a few times. No, not to use it as a parkour obstacle course! She's been there on a few tours instead. And despite what you might think, Sarah still has always maintained proper etiquette while she's there. Because everyone has standards, and while Sarah's a tomboy, she still knows her manners.

While there's a tour going on, Sarah is not here for one of them. She's here because she's got a match coming up, and while it's an unusual spot for a fight, Sarah's not one to question location. She's sure that the Saturday Night Fight league has their reason for choosing this location.

Like Angelina, Sarah also makes the sign of the cross before she enters, taking the time to remove her baseball cap at the same time to show proper reverence. After that, she puts her cap back on and walks into the building proper, making her way past the tourists politely. Upon arriving in the main area where the fight is taking place, Sarah smiles as she gets a glimpse of the large mat where the fight will be taking place.

The blonde-haired tomboy kicks off her flip-flops and sets them off to the side before walking barefoot onto the mat. From there, she proceeds to do some light stretching and warming up. The organ music is familiar, but she doesn't know the title of the song either.

As she's warming up, Sarah spots Angelina and gives a smile and a wave of her hand. "You must be my opponent! How nice to meet you! I look forward to our match together!"

[ANGELINA]
Angelina recognises the young blonde woman from her time with the New Fighting Generation. Although not an avid fan, Angelina did catch some of the matches on the streaming service, particularly those that took place in her hometown of Metro City. It was fun to see which locations the organisers had chosen for the fights to take place. Her favourite had been The Dead Squirrel, until it got burned down during one of the matches! It has now been renovated back and better than before. The rumours are that the owner, Johnny, was richly compensated for the inconvenience having to close had caused him.

"Yeah, I'm Angelina! I'm looking forward to our match too." The black-haired beauty enthuses. Her long curls are pulled back into a loose ponytail at the nape of her neck and her dark eyes sparkle in anticipation of the action to come. At the age of thirty two, Angelina still feels like a teenager when she's on the fighting mat.

A referee appears and an announcer interrupts the organ music to declare that it's time for the match to get under way. The few empty seats that were remaining are quickly filled and the two women are advised to take their places in their respective corners. Once the bell sounds to signal the beginning of the fight, Angelina steps aside and gestures towards the DJ. "After you. I insist."

Unlike Angelina, Sarah does not recognize her opponent right away. Apparently, Sarah is better known from being in the New Fighting Generation. It was where Sarah made her official debut, and ever since then she's been trying to make a name for herself both as a fighter as well as her standard occupation as a disk jockey. Indeed, the locations for the fights were quite interesting.

"Pleasure to meet you, Angelina," Sarah says, still smiling cheerfully. "I always enjoy meeting new opponents and seeing what they're capable of. Each fight is a new challenge in itself. Win or lose, I'm always improving."

The organ music stops playing, which is a good thing, since it's not exactly the best type of music for a fight. The announcer arrives and introduces the two women by each of their names, and then the fighters are advised to take their places in their corners. Unlike Angelina, who probably walks over normally, Sarah cartwheels over and lands on both of her bare feet. Upon landing, she proceeds to assume the ginga, moving from side to side in the traditional stance of capoeira. When the bell rings and Angelina insists Sarah go first, she tips her cap briefly. "Why thank you!"

Sarah advances slowly on Angelina, keeping an eye on her opponent as she moves. Deciding to start things off simply, Sarah spins around before dropping down with a sweeping kick.

Angelina isn't too well-known in the fighting world, despite practicing Aikido since her teens. She has only been competing in front of television cameras since her late twenties, when she got caught up in the Ristar competition whilst on the trail of a client. It had all been slightly strange.

So far, Sarah seems like a pleasant sort, both energetic and polite. "You're right." She responds, as the Mancunian muses on the challenge of each fight. "I'm still learning each day, even though it feels like I've been fighting forever."

The cartwheel causes Angelina to smile. It's certainly an impressive way to make an entrance, but it's not one that the Italian-American is going to imitate anytime soon. Sarah accepts the invitation to get things underway and comes towards Angelina in a spinning motion as she tries to land a sweeping kick.

Angelina catches Sarah's foot between her hands, causing one of her fingers to bend back, but preventing her from taking the blow to her body. "You're speedy." She observes, before pulling out a telescoping Jo staff from her robes and swinging it down to strike at Sarah's knuckles.

She then moves behind her, extending the staff and using it to try and force Sarah down to the mat on her front. If she manages it, she will give an additional strike to her buttocks.

Sarah's bare foot is caught by Angelina, simply a miscalculation on the blonde-haired tomboy's part. She shrugs it off as she gets back into the ginga, waiting for the next attack to come in.

She's not expecting to get hit in the knuckles by a staff. Nor is she expecting that to lead into her being caught from behind by Angelina and knocked to the mat either. And then she gets hit in the buttocks? Now THAT'S humiliating!

"Oy..." Sarah cries out as she rubs her rear a little before getting back onto her feet and getting into the ginga. "Well, like I said, each fight is a new challenge. You caught me off-guard there!" She smiles at that. "Still, this is only the beginning!"

Sarah steps back a few steps to give herself a better position against Angelina. "If there's one thing I love, it's seeing the many abilities my opponent has, whether I've fought them before or not. And I love showing off my skills too. In fact, here's one of my favorites!" With that, Sarah brings her arm back and then throws forth a blast of chi that looks like a large butterfly. And unfortunately, this butterfly isn't a peaceful one!

Angelina does have the good grace to look a little sheepish as the staff is brought down hard on Sarah's buttocks. She can't help but feel like an old-fashioned strict teacher sometimes when she pulls off that move.

"Yeah, it's just the start of the match." Angelina agrees with Sarah, watching as the blonde backs off. When she speaks of showing off her skills, Angelina suspects that something special might be coming her way.

She's soon proved right, when for her, Sarah's most memorable move is launched. As the butterfly flutters towards the martial artist, she drops down onto the mat, rolling backwards and bringing her feet up to bat it away. She feels the chi against her bare skin and winces slightly, letting herself recover for a second before rising to her feet.

Sarah watches as the attack is deflected away, and she nods a little as if to acknowledge the skill that Angelina possesses. "I've had many people underestimate me and get hit by my Flash Butterfly. They regret it afterward." She smiles at Angelina. "You've got great skill, I have to hand it to you."

Returning to the ginga, Sarah watches Angelina carefully, waiting to see what kind of attack is coming next. But when she sees that Angelina is attempting to focus her mind instead of attacking, Sarah realizes that she best play carefully now.

Leaping into the air with a somersault, Sarah attempts to drop in on Angelina, literally, with a swift kick aimed right at Angelina. Can she deal with this or will she be caught off-guard?

"I never underestimate anyone." Angelina admits. This goes for both her matches and her day job. As someone who works with newly released prisoners, she has to keep her wits about her.

Almost as an afterthought, she remembers to thank Sarah for the compliment. "I appreciate it. You too. I bet it was amazing to be featured in something like the New Fighting Generation. Having the chance to bond with all the other contestants and all." Although she has her work, her church and her hobbies, Angelina doesn't have many close friends. She's not really the type to go out partying and most of the evenings she's not at her local dojo, she can be found on the sofa in front of Netflix.

Angelina observes her opponent as she gets back into position, preparing for her to pounce. When the diving kick comes flying in, in the form of Sarah trying to drop down on her, she raises her legs and curls them towards herself, protecting herself from the majority of the attack's damage.

Extending her telescopic jo staff, Angelina infuses it with golden white energy, before thrusting it towards Sarah. She's aiming to hit her with a series of rapid, chi empowered strikes. If successful, she'll then use the jo to sweep the disc jockey's legs from under her, knocking her down to the mat.

Seems Angelina was ready for Sarah. Sarah gets blocked, but she takes it in full stride. Rather than be discouraged, she still smiles. "You've got good skills, I like that!"

As soon as Sarah gets back in the ginga, she takes up a defensive stance, knowing that another attack is coming. Indeed, she's right as the staff comes at her. This time, Sarah's ready and she deflects the staff away, although she does wince a little. "Ooh, I'll feel that tomorrow morning!"

Sarah decides to seize the moment to try showing Angelina something new. The girl goes down to the ground and spins around on the palm of her hand, with her bare feet outstretched, intending on hitting Angelina twice, once with each foot, if it connects.

Angelina is still smiling, despite her combo being blocked by the breakdancing blonde. The way Sarah handled the assault is admirable, and as well as pain, she should be feeling pride tomorrow.

As the younger fighter drops down to the ground to show off her agility and dancing skills, Angelina attempts to grab hold of her wrist. planning to use it to take control of the move. Sarah is simply too fast though, and rather than lifting the Englishwoman's legs from beneath her, the American is struck both times by the outstretched feet, once to the stomach and the other to her face. This sends her off balance and she's brought down on the mat, already feeling the bruises form.

[SARAH]
Sarah comes out of her signature attack and returns to the ginga. She watches as Angelina goes down. "I should've warned you, that's one of my trademarks there. It's faster than you think. Still, you made a good effort, I'll give you that."

Sarah remains in the ginga, watching Angelina to see what she might do next. She's already caught the tomboy off-guard already, and she wants to see what might happen next.

Slowly getting up, Angelina straightens her crisp white robes and smoothes a stray curl back from her face. "No need for warnings. I know what you're capable of." Angelina laughs lightly. "I just thought I could pull something off. Apparently not though."

Despite coming a cropper, Angelina doesn't appear to be too downhearted about messing up her manoeuvre. She's clearly ready to continue as she comes towards Sarah with a serene and focused look on her face.

Angelina aims to lifts Sarah's arm up, so her palm is facing the Aikido user, and then wraps her fingers around the inside of it. Taking a step backwards, she'll try and use it to turn Sarah around, till she's standing alongside her, facing in the same direction.

From here, she plans to push her forwards, continuing to move herself, till she's around the front of her. She'll then aim to force her down to her knees, and from here, use her free hand to push her face into the mat.

Sarah decides to try to catch Angelina off-guard by going in with a rolling attack and then a rising uppercut. At least, that's what the girl intends to do. Unfortunately, she's gotten a bit ahead of herself, and finds herself caught. And then she's down on the mat, face first. Even more humiliating is that her cap falls off!

"Ungh..." Sarah groans a little as she forces herself up and realizes it feels a little cooler. She then sees her hat in front of her and she sighs. "Just my bloody luck," Sarah says with a sigh as she takes her hat and puts it back on before struggling to get back onto her feet.

"As you saw there, I got a little ahead of myself," Sarah says while shaking her head. "We all make mistakes, it's part of our nature."

[ANGELINA]
Sarah's plans are impressive and ambitious for sure, but like Angelina's before her, they don't quite work out.

As the tireless tomboy falls face forwards into the mat, Angelina gives a satisfied smile. She's definitely not gloating though. She's just glad she didn't flunk things two times in a row!

Once the cap is securely back in place, covering Sarah's short locks, Angelina uses it as a signal to go back on the attack.

Holding both her arms forward, Angelina places her palms against each other, then stretches them apart. As she does, radiant golden white chi stretches between them, before unleashing forward as a narrow laser like beam of potent energy, heading straight towards Sarah.

Sarah tries to defend against what's coming from Angelina, but it's no use. The disk jockey is hit and goes flying across the mat. She takes another tumble and lands on her side, wincing a little in pain. "Ungh... that's not the way to place a statue when it's raining..." She sputters, apparently dazed from that attack. As she gets up and slaps herself a few times, she looks at Angelina and gives a slight smile as she nods to her. "Quite impressive, I have to say."

Sarah returns to the ginga, starting slowly but picking up speed as she approaches Angelina again. "Seems you've shown me a few tricks of your own, and I'm going to show you something too." With that, Sarah attempts to deliver a cartwheel into Angelina, bringing both bare feet down one at a time to stun her. If successful, Sarah will deliver a modified version of her spinning kick to bring her down to Sarah's level, and then deliver a chi-infused uppercut to finish things off.

Angelina is confused by the comment about the statue. "Huh?" She wonders, her dark eyes becoming wide and quizzical.

The sight of Sarah slapping herself causes Angelina to frown, but she soon figures out she's trying to stir herself and relaxes.

"Thanks." Angelina answers Sarah's compliment, but it's soon time for the Metro City woman to be the one who's impressed!

The cartwheel crashes into Angelina, sending her falling backwards with the impact. By the time the uppercut collides with her chin, Angelina is seeing stars.

Blinking rapidly, the black-haired beauty holds out one palm extended towards Sarah, unleashing a blinding flash of golden white chi at her.

Her aim is to try and stun her, before she draws her telescoping jo staff out with her other hand. She'll then seek to swing the extended jo up with both hands, striking between Sarah's legs in a bid to incapacitate her.

Even when an opponent is on the ropes, it's not wise to underestimate them! Because they might come back when you least expect it! And that's exactly what Sarah does here!

Just as the first attack comes in, Sarah effortlessly deflects it away, leaving her completely unharmed. Without waiting for anything further, Sarah moves in closer, still maintaining her ginga maneuevers as she does so.

"I'm far from over!" Sarah says as she attempts to do a sudden backflip, attempting to stripe Angelina with her bare feet as she goes up and back!

Angelina wouldn't dream of counting Sarah out before the end of this thrilling match. That would be a costly mistake.

Sarah smoothly shrugs off Angelina's dangerous assault, and before the American can even catch her breath, the blonde is back on the assault.

The defiant cry from Sarah combined with the brutal backflip finds Angelina flat on her back and gasping for breath. She seems like she wants to speak but it's a struggle to do so right now. As she lies on the mat, she thrusts out her extended jo, trying to strike whichever part of Sarah she can reach.

In an effort to try to keep herself going, Sarah decides to go all out with her attack. Instead of a single butterfly, Sarah throws forth a barrage of smaller butterflies at Angelina. They're smaller, but they're coming in a large swarm. And it looks like they might hit Angelina.

Even though Sarah gets hit, she manages to land her attack on Angelina, giving her the advantage. Badly beaten and low on stamina, Sarah looks at Angelina, knowing that there's still one last-ditch effort she might make.

"It's not over yet! You've still got this!"

[ANGELINA]
The butterflies are beautiful. As they flutter and float around the Abbey, Angelina watches them in awe. One by one they strike her and all she can do is lie there in stunned silence.

Sarah is offering words of encouragement but the thought of finding the energy to attack her again seems very ambitious. Still, Angelina has to at least try.

The American woman's whole being starts to glow with radiant golden white energy. As it floods through her frame, she stands up and starts to move forwards at rapid speed.

When she reaches Sarah, she seeks to deliver a series of stunning but relatively harmless atemi with her palms and feet to various pressure points all over the Mancunian's body.

Trying to twist Sarah's arm around to impede and reposition her, she will aim to expose additional points, leaving glowing golden prints where her strikes and grasps connect.

When she finishes, Angelina steps back and presses her hands together as the meridians of both fighters light up in harmony, restoring Angelina's energy briefly, whilst causing a painless but debilitating release in her opponent that if it connects will cause their limbs and organs to go numb with impermanent nervous overload.

The effort put into this dazzling display does not come without a cost however. As soon as Angelina completes the connection with Sarah, she collapses on the mat, unable to continue.

Sarah tries to avoid the last-ditch effort. Unfortunately, it's just not meant to be. Sarah is caught and finds herself unable to react properly. She struggles to move, but it's no use. She feels herself going numb, and collapses onto the mat. As she starts to lose consciousness, she gives a weak thumbs up and a smile.

"Great comeback."

Then Sarah collapses onto the mat, out like a light. It's a draw, but it's better than a loss.
