Match of the Millennium

Description: Odysseuna just wants to go surfing but Poseidon spots him and grows angry at his skill. He pushes him off his board, pulls him under the water and breaks his board! Surely Odysseuna can't let this go without a fight?

The fight was at Corfu.

The island of Corfu, also known by the name Kerkyra, is one marking the northwestern border of Greece. One of the largest naval battles among the Greek city-states took place on this island and those surrounding it. Indeed, naval warfare is the main reason the capital city is surrounded by not just one, but two sprawling castles and boundary walls. There's a lot more to soak in than just history, though. On the northern coastline, Acharavi Beach provides a chill place to hang out for students of the nearby Ionian Univeristy, as well as a relaxing getaway for vacationers in the beachside villas nearby. There's no shortages of places to eat along the coast, between such restaurants such as the Maistro, and bears such as the Fuego Beach Bar. For those looking for a less expensive affair, the wide and expansive beach welcomes crowds all throughout the year. Filled with sand and smooth stones, the beach makes for comfortable walking even during the summer months. For those more averse to the sun's rays, umbrellas and chairs are available for rent at reasonable rates. The northern "maestro" breeze brings comfort all throughout the year, and with it, one-meter-tall waves from time to time. Recently, a sandbar has formed just off the coast due to the steady waves. A lifeguard stand has been built here, where though it could also serve as a referee tower for an impromptu volleyball game. Or maybe even... a fight?

Xander De Vries was preparing the sandbar to his strict satisfication. The short, swarthy young man was actually dressed in his full karate gi. The martial arts uniform is ivory white, tied with a thick brown belt with black stripe. He was barefoot on the sand, and upon his head is a vintage fisherman cap in navy blue. His hair underneath is light blonde, short, curly, and impeccably groomed. The Dutch Lad was busy inspecting the boundaries of the 'arena.' The volleyball net was set up in between, and he saw that the 'edge' of the ring actually was out in the tidal waters, coming in and out in the shallow water. The boy carefully calculated the implications of it, especially with his opponent.

How was Kahuna assessing the environment, to his tactical advantage?

[KAHUNA]
ZzzZzZzZzzzzZzzzzZ~

That might be the sounds coming from the large turtle that's floating in the water near the sandy shore. That's right, the self-proclaimed shellraiser himself known as Kahuna is napping out of actual boredom or something even less crucial. It's not really hard to notice that this giant turtle doesn't really have a care in the world. Could be why there's a smile cracked onto the features of his face as he just floats along without paying attention to whichever direction he's floating in. He just goes wherever the waves take him.

Right now, there's a boombox (old school and everything) balanced on his chest. It might actually be strapped down, who actually knows. But the Beach Boys' California Girls is playing from the speakers on this thing. His hands are behinid his head as his body just rides the waves of tranquility in a manner that maybe fate will take ahold of in order to get him to where he needs to be. The right time at the fight place is hopefully ini the cards...

[XANDER]
Oh.

He was asleep.

Xander stares out in the water. Considering how to best approach the surf ninja that was, well, floating. He glances at the water. He could shout. He could throw a ball. He could do a whole host of things. But ultimately, he didn't want to mess up that boombox, or hurt him. So Xander hoists up his gi, and heads into the water. Wading in the surf, he reaches Kahuna. And delicately, he begins to push the sleepy guy. Gently keeping him balanced, he steadily pushes him towards land, until the sand starts scratching the turtle man's back

Once he reached there, he would lift up the boombox, and very deliberately, bring it safely on the sand away from the breaking surf

[KAHUNA]
Maybe there's some kind of spiritual connection between Kahuna and his stuff but the fact is that he remains completely calm and sleep-filled on the pushing to shore and all of that. Even coming up on the sand is kind of par for the course with his lifestyle so he even seems to be more comfortable. Things don't really start to hit home for him until he realizes that his glorified musical tastes are getting farther away from his non-visible ears. So much so that it makes him have to actually blink a couple of times during the wake up process.

"Uh... wha?"

Kahuna double takes as he spots his boombox being taken to the sand by a person that is not himself. "Whoa! Dude!" Kahuna splashes around as he flips himself upright and points wildly in Xander's direction! "Dude, come on! Total thievery!" Ah yes, the accusation portion of just waking up and seeing someone else with your property!

"Totes uncool, brah!" Here comes the splashing, semi-sleepy, turtle bro!

[XANDER]
"You should thank me for being so considerate of your technical equipment!"

Xander is curt and direct in his rebuttal to the slacker turtle man. "I could have just tipped you over, or knocked it into the water!" Xander is careful in placing the boombox by the pole. He doesn't even turn off the music. "Besides, if I wanted to steal it, you wouldn't even had noticed." The Dutch lad doesn't laugh at his comment. Tensing up, he turns to face the oncoming Kahuna. "You should be more responsible with your belongings. Now come on! Lets fight!" Xander falls into his karate stance, ready to receive the oncoming turtle with martial violence.

And also, specifically, to fight on the sand bar instead of the water.

"Bruh. Seriously?"

Kahuna looks like he's still tired but the wandering onto the sand is enough to have him looking as though he probably shouldn't be ready to fight yet-- but somehow he is. Maybe it's being this close to the beach that's powering him up or something. Who really knows. What matters most is that Kahuna is staring at Xander and this karate stance for a full solid minute before he makes a decision.

"Alright, dude. If it'll make you happy." Kahuna shrugs in non-chalantness.

The shrug leads right into Kahuna moving with more speed than, well, a turtle probably should have. Somehow he's moving on the sand as if it weren't hard to move on. Enough so that he rushes at Xander and aims a swift kick in the direction of the Karate Kid(?)'s midsection. Nothing major. Just a little something light to... ah, better let Kahuna say it.

"Mind if I... KICK things off?" Kahuna even laughs at his own horrible joke.

Opening with a pun?

When he says he is kicking things off, Xander was trying to read the turtle. The problem was, well, he was -very- fast. His shape was all wrong. And when his instincts come, he actually goes to evade it instead of blocking. A terrible mistake, as he takes a soggy kick right to his abdomen. Staggering backwards, he focuses hard. Kick things off. As Kahuna laughs, the dutch boy smirks. "Ah, that's very funny." Xander says dryly. "You are kicking things off, with kicking. But there is no form! There is..." Xander squints, as he eases back into his karate stance.

"Turtles have different proportions, ah ha!"

"I will also be kicking this off as well, I like your humor!" Xander explains, as he crouches down. "I am going to be doing the Tobi Mae- I mean, I am going to be doing a jump kick. The appropriate reaction is to block it!" Xander jumps into the air, opening with the flying kick as he stated. Not a full on triangle style kick, mind you, but a swift and powerful front kick. He wasn't sure if he should try and kick the midsection as well. But well.

He could split boards with those kicks, after all.

Kahuna looks absolutely mortified at the words coming out of Xander's mouth. He actually drops his guard and everything. Because he cannot believe what's happening in this exact moment.

"Wait, dude. DUDE!" Kahuna just /stares/ at Xander. "Are you tryin' to /teach/ me something? Against my will?!" Kahuna looks like he's about to throw up. He even gags an extra bit to really sell it. "Dude, too far."

It is in this moment that Kahuna spots that flying kick aimed in his direction. He ducks... well his head ducks-- right into his shell to allow Xander to kick right over his body. He pops his head back out and turns around to face his fly kicking foe. "Sick move. Needs less lesson planning tho."

Kahuna winks. "Like this!" And now he dives at Xander but spins in mid-air to sail at him shell first! "Shell Yeah!"

"Every fight is a lesson in karate!"

States Xander as he sails over Kahuna, the turtle man bringing his head in. "For you and for me. I have not learned of how karate is meant to be used against an opponent like you! Do not be shy. You should come out of your shell." Xander sounds very terse and curt. But as Kahuna shell spins at him, the karate kicking teen tenses up. Erupting in a burst of cinders and ash, he pivots and turns. "Ushiro Kakato Kin Geri!" Xander declares firmly, as he waits patiently as Kahuna approaches when then- bam. He unleashes a mule kick, aimed right in Kahuna's terrapins. Staggering backwards from the force of the kick, he falls into the sand, body smoking and smoldering. That really, really hurt his leg. But he clarifies, as he continues his lesson.

"Mule Kick To Groin."

While the shell takes most of the impact, said shell is still part of Kahuna and that's enough to keep him in some pain. Contrary to some popular turtles of fiction, Kahuna can feel the flaming mule kick and when he smacks into the sand afterwards, there's a moment of rolling just to make sure he's not on fire. You never can be too careful, honestly.

"Totally uncalled for, bro. I don't even like karate." Kahuna flips over and sits up a bit. "Okay, that's a lie. Cobra Kai is so choice. Love that show!" The quick moment of excitement comes with a fistpump and then Kahuna's rolling backward and up to his feet.

"But not everybody's a karate kid, dude! Some of us are Surf Ninjas! Check it!"

Kahuna whips out his board from Shellspace, the tattoos on his arms summoning the water from behind him. He hops on the board as the water surges and waves, surfing right towards Xander. Showing off his surfing ability, Kahuna aims the front of his board at Xander's midsection, aiming blast of water along with it for some extra sting! As he surfs, his trident (with the three point fork spearhead attached) is spun above his head! He aims to stab Xander into the sand below!

"Surf's up!"

"Cobra Kai is a great show!"

Xander concurs as he rises up, a burst of ash and cinders blowing off him. "I like it very much, and it helps show the drama that is part of karate!" Kahuna comes at him, riding the wave with a surf board that wasn't there before. But Xander doesn't have time to overreact. He must karate. As he blocks it, he manages to fight with the trident, struggling with the unusual weapon. He manages to avoid the stab, but in exchange, is washed and crushed into the sand. Laying there, he is soggy and soaked.

ANd there is a burst of hot steam from his body, as he surges into a stand.

"You can still be a Karate Kid and a Surf Ninja." Xander explains. "Ninjas can use karate! You would enjoy the self discpline!" The dutch teen starts, as he tenses up. Another eruption of cinders come, this time with steam boiling off him. Hot and bothered, he comes at Kahuna, bringing a sharp punch with his right, a hand chop with his left, and a rising palm with his right again. "You decide for yourself what is the best defense!" Xander declares.

He really liked this turtle's spirit.

Kahuna hops off his board and gives it a whirl to attach itself to the back of his shell. He doesn't have the time to shove it into Shellspace right now but for the moment it's going to look cool and attached. Which is why he's prepped and ready for action when Xander comes at him with some more advice.

"My favorite characters are Johnny and Hawk. Mondo tubular dudes, brah."

The Cobra Kai Kinship is interrupted by the explosive combo coming from Xander. Kahuna's eyes bug out for a second but he bobs past the sharp punch and weaves around the hand chop. That rising palm gets spun past as Kahuna bypasses such vicious attackery in favor of planting himself in a new position to respond from.

"You're fast. And stronger than you look, brah. For you? Best defense is to not get hit." Kahuna wags a finger at Xander. "My shell /still/ stings." And that wagging finger turns into a sudden reach and grab for Xander as Kahuna spins his body to see if he can't toss him up and over his shoulder swiftly!

"Ki-Yah!" Sarcastically toned, of course!

Xander had a lot of respect for his opponent.

As he slips around the relentless attack, he seems shocked that the sleepy Kahuna could move so fast. "Turtles are supposed to be slower on land than in the water." Xander states in a rather exasperated tone. "Humans, the other way around. You are very swift and strong too!" Xander is hurled across the sands. Fortunately, his match with Skye prepared him for this. Once he hits the ground, its like a landmine goes off. A blast of sand, steam, and ash erupts around him, and Xander is bursting back at Kahuna. "And an excellent Kiai shout! You are perfect for karate! I'm going to hit you in your chest! Best defense is to block. I wouldn't keep dodging!" Was it a head fake? IN any case, Xander gives a sharp, direct palm strike aimed right at Kahuna's chest.

With a blow that could split concrete blocks.

Kahuna shaka signs with his right hand in Xander's direction. "Dude, I'm a beach turtle. Sand and water are my whole life." That's the quick explanation about how and why he's so fast on sand and in the water. "We might as well be fighting in my personal dojo." Kahuna pauses for a second. "... I should get a personal dojo. I could train a whole class of Surf Ninjas. BRAH! This'll be-- wuh oh!"

Kahuna spots the explosive rebuttal from Xander and takes off running to meet the landmined explosive burst back in his direction. Only the moment he takes a few steps he launches himself into the air, his glowing tattoo'd arms and legs pulled into his shell. "Time to Raise Shell!" His head ducks in after that last quip as well.

Aquatic chi blasts from around the shell to send the giant turtle shell spinning and ricocheting all around, smacking into Xander from whatever direction it can bounce off something with an explosion of watery chi after every strike! It's like pinball but with more turtle.

There's a good chance he might be dizzy after this.

To say the least Xander's own dizziness.

Xander is blasted down with the rush of water, and for a moment, his smoldering phoenix flames are smothered out. As the shell smacks him in the head, he is sent spiralling, hitting the sand hard. As Kahuna gets caught between the two volleyball poles, Xander is given a moment to be stunned. He can't bring himself up. He has to bring himself up though. He needs to break through. He has to. There is a burst of flames and ash, but it is choked down by the water. Another burst. Another burst.

And the fourth one reignites him back on his feet.

Rising up again, Xander seems battered, burnt, and soaked. But he seemed... happy? Clenching a hand tight, he nods. "Yes! Anybody who is willing and able to teach their art, is a true master! My sensai told me that. And I am learning some lessons on fighting on the sea and sand. He opens his fist, and lets the sand fall out. Striding at Kahuna he falls into his karate stance just long enough to belt out. "A front kick, into a second front kick to abdomen! Best choice is to block!" He declares, as he unleashes the one two kicks to try and get Kahuna to pop back out of his shell.

He didn't have a turtle pun at the moment.

The Kahuna Shell finally comes to a spinning stop and eventually the turtle dude pops out of it. He's wobbly and dizzy from the move in a way that makes it quite clear that he's going to be a little off kilter for the next little bit. He might as well have little turtles swimming around his head or something from the way he can't actually stand straight up.

Which is why his attempt to try and get out of the way of that kicking session goes so badly. One and then the other connect with the soft abdomen of the turtle. He doubles over and stumbles backward from the back-to-back impact. There's also some blood, a little, that comes from his mouth. That kick was a stronger than even Kahuna was ready for, apparently.

"Nice one, dude." comes along with the grunt of pain. It takes him another moment to straighten up a bit. When he does, he reveals his telescoping trident -- this time with a boxing glove spearhead attached. There's only time for a quick aim before he activates the launcher on the trident and sends that boxing glove sailing in Xander's direction!

"Thank you!" Comes Xander, as he returns to his karate stance.

He waits for Kahuna to straighten up. But as the trident comes, he nods his head. "A trick. I see. It's time for the Hi-Ougi." Xander says to himself. As the punching glove is launched right at him? Xander actually -charges- through it with pure karate might. On impact, there is a burst of crimson cinders, like kicking a log in the clambake fire. But as he keeps going forward, he clings to those flames. Reaching Kahuna, he seems to carry and guide that cloud of burning ash as he raises his arm upwards, like an uppercut. It's not a punch he brings, though. It's a wave of blazing cinders, that engulf Kahuna in a sputtering, choking cloud. A cloud that clings to him, as the ashes seem to get inside his shell.

It was getting hot under the collar, now.

[KAHUNA]
"DUDE! Hot! HOT HOT!"

The smoke that comes out of the shell of Kahuna while he also tries to deal with the fact that he's just had his boxing glove cindered to ash and back, is enough to have Kahuna almost ready to feel an emotion besides 'chill'. He doesn't particularly like to have stuff in his shell that he didn't put there so this is all. But the fact that he's dealing with, what could possibly be a five alarm fire inside his shell, is what has him running around and bopping around like there's no hope.

"Totally uncalled for, brah." And as the tattoos on his arm glow once again, the aquatic chi is summoned for a quick blast in Xander's direction before he starts trying to fill his shell with water to cool down.

... it doesn't help.

"You feel that?"

Xander states it, as he knocks away the blast of water wit his forearm. There is a sharp hiss as he grunts in pain, before he erupts again with a blast of ash and cinders. The sparks of embers fall around him, as he strides forward at Kahuna. "That's the spirit of the phoenix! It's the spirit that keeps you going, no matter how hard things look. It's the fire that burns within me! Within every student of Kojima Kyokushin-Ryu Karate. This is the Hi-Ougi Hou-Ou Ken. I do not know how to defend against it. Good luck!"

And he sweeps his arms.

Moving his arms in a circular fashion, he spreads his arms apart as he unleashes a blast of ash as a proper wave. It's almost like a hadoken. But a flashing mass of crimson red cinders, that rockets forward at Kahuna. Should it hit?

Well, it's going to start bringing the medium heat to a rather hot high.

"Dude! I'm hot enough! Come on!"

Kahuna almost flails as more ash is sent in his direction. He really doesn't want to have to deal with so much more heat that he's not going to be able to function. It's already bad enough that his water chi isn't doing anything for it! So when that ash blast comes at him, he goes airborne! Somersaulting into the air and ducking his head and limbs into his shell once more. It's a risky move because of the heat so he's going to take some personal damage, but the trajectory of his body-- his shell-- is aimed directly for Xander!

"Geronimooooooooooo!" comes from the hole in the shell with that extra muffled filter on it!

"Oh, dodging it."

Xander repeats out loud, almost teaching himself a lesson on it. The battle between the water chi and cinder chi was becoming a rather aggressive mix. Lord knows Xander was getting steamed just as Kahuna was getting cooked. As Kahuna takes to the air, though, Xander realizes that the shell was coming down on him. The dutch teen makes his own attempt to dodge, but with a pop and a howl, it catches him on the leg. He slams into the sand face first. Immediately, he starts cracking and flaring up, bursts of fiery energy attempting to rouse him. Struggling under Kahuna, he manages to tear free. His leg hurt very, very badly. Was it fractured? The thought made Xander inspired. "Yes! Yes!" He states firmly, as he tenses up. "Downward Heel Kick! Try to dodge it!" He bellows as he attempts to take the injured leg, and -slam- it down on Kahuna, attempting to kick some shell.

That was probably not a good idea to do with an injured leg.

Being all shell and colliding with Xander is enough to make even Kahuna feel it a bit more than usual. As his limbs pop out of those holes once again, he's stumbling and still wobbly. The dizziness is there, along with the heated skin and singed limbs from the cinder chi. It has been a bit of a day on the inside of that shell, that's for sure.

It's the crackling energy that gets Kahuna to pay attention and he starts trying to straighten himself up. He can spot that recently injured leg headed in his direction and Kahuna does what anybody trying not to get kicked would do in this situation... summons the water behind him. His tatts glow and he creates tidal wave of water that overtakes him and Xander and pretty much this entire section of the beach in such a way that even Kahuna is down on a single knee trying to recover from the aquatic attack.

There's just a small smirk on his face as he looks up and in the direction that Xander is/was and just kind of goes: "Wipeout."

[XANDER]
Gnarly.

As Xander drops the bad leg hard on the shell, Kahuna sends him to the reefs. A wave of water blasts him down, nearly washing him out to sea. Floating in the shallows, he lays there, his embers threatening to flash up... only to be smothered out with each wave of the tide. Jerking, he struggles, clinging to it. Drawing his arm back, he struggles, before he thrusts a single hand forward towards Kahuna. A feeble, weak burst of steam and smoke intermingled flashes out at Kahuna, before landing on the sands. When it lands, it would rise up into a pillar of cinder and wet ash, the water chi and fire chi locked in a savage battle. Xander stands ankle deep in the water as he fights to reignite himself... just as a wave surges in behind him....

COMBATSYS: Xander can no longer fight.

... And knocks him over with an audible hiss, drowning the last of the spirit of the phoenix as the water draws him out to the center of the sandbar.

Kahuna can barely stand himself, which is why he's still on that single knee. He tries to focus his vision but there's still smoke coming out of his shell. It's a whole thing. He's going to be finding ash for weeks. Speaking of such, there's another burst of such unique chi sent in his direction and its all that he can do to bring his arm up and let it smack against it. Kahuna winces but manages to resist the urge to completely pass out.

As he watches Xander's body get taken by the water, he drops his head a bit in respect. "Sorry, dude." It's a genuine apology that's immediately undercut by the fact that his boombox floats by. Completely ruined.

"Ah, no! My tunes! Bogus!"
