Fightfest 2023 - Third Place Match: Tamaki vs Djamila

[Toggle Names]

Description: The bronze medal match between Djamila and Tamaki! Who will come out on top?

[DJAMILA]
With the finals match soon to be decided, there is first this match. One fighter will end up on the podium for third place. The other will simply be fourth. The crowd is excited. They are ready for this match. Are the fighters ready as well? That's the question.

Djamila's music 'Jusqu'au bout.' starts. She is wearing her usual light brown and black colored outfit in a typical but sexy Arabian style. And, of course her blackfold over her eyes. Does she ever take that thing off? She is walking toward the platform, using her staff as a walking stick. People in the crowd are cheering for her. She has fans now. They know what she can do, even if she didn't win her last match. She would say, "I still knocked out Hawksley too." But he did get back up first. You try getting burnt and keep getting up.

Finally, she arrives at the platform and goes to her corner. Once there, she lifts her staff in the air and makes it spin. She then slams it down to the ground. She's ready.

[TAMAKI]
Tamaki...

...has seriously annoyed the sound staff by changing her music every time, often at the very last minute, with no forewarning. Once she tried to give them an honest to god cassette tape, because in her mind it is still the nineties (and there is time for Klax).

The net result is that she is no longer allowed to mess with it and she gets something instrumental that sounds very strongly of city pop. It's not really fighting music. But that's okay, because they don't actually play it *during* the fight.

Tamaki strolls in to the saxophone, dressed in what she's shown up to every battle in: green sleeveless top, brown skirt, bare feet and a gourd tokkuri thrown over one shoulder on a cord. And, of course, visible ears and tail, as if she's flaunting the Darkstalker-ness... it's not like she can really hide it when she gets going. Though, most of that doesn't matter to Djamila, she figures - but there's still the crowd after all.

"So," Tamaki says cheerfully, loud enough to carry. "You've a pole, and I've a jug. Between us we could almost be a river ferryman."

[DJAMILA]
"If you have an extra jug on your person, then you have three." She answers loud enough when Tamaki speaks to her. "Congrats on getting here. Give me your best, and I will do the same." She looks chill, however. She got here, and Tamaki got here too. May the best win. She does wish to get third place. But she figures Tamaki wants it just as much. It's going to be fun.

When it's time she gets to the middle of the ring. She bows to her opponent, then she backs up, in her fighting stance. It is time.

[TAMAKI]
Tamaki laughs at that. "So five jugs between us... there's probably a joke there, but I can't tell it in public. I think I like you. But let's make a good sport of it!"

She seems pretty lazy about the fight, though honestly, Tamaki *does* want to win, as much to see if she can as anything else. Still, you might not guess it by the casual way she enters the ring, whistling the song she came in with as if it had never stopped, though by this time it has.

It is unclear how many of Tamaki's tricks, based on illusion and misdirection, will work on Djamila. Even Tamaki doesn't know; she has never fought anyone who couldn't see before. But constant movement never hurt, and so her sudden approach when the bell rings is zig-zaggy, indirect. Her stance is very loose, even swaying; she lunges forward to a punch against Djamila, then lets momentum carry her backwards a staggering step, weaving at an unorthodox angle to try to evade the counter strike and stay out of where Djamila expects her to be.

COMBATSYS: Djamila dodges Tamaki's Stumbling Swing.

[DJAMILA]
"That's correct. 5 jugs for an extra good time." Djamila simply says. Then it's time. The match starts. There's no time for more playfulness. Or is there?

Tamaki comes toward Djamila, and Djamila doesn't react, at least now right away. She simply has her staff on the ground. Wind chi can be felt from the base for those who can feel such things. When Tamaki lunges for with a punch, Djamila is no longer there however. She's on her staff, out of the way, in a graceful motion. When Tamaki pulls back in that weird way, Djamila lands.

As soon as she lands, she pulls her staff from the ground and kicks at it, sending it toward where Tamaki is. At least that's the plan. If she hits her, the staff might bounce back in her hand. If it misses, a little bit of wind Chi pulls it back into her hand.

COMBATSYS: Tamaki dodges Djamila's Thrown Object.

Djamila          0/-------/-------|=======\-------\1           Tamaki

[TAMAKI]
Tamaki lets momentum carry her through a couple additional steps, her feet crossing over each other as she swerves away from the flying staff. She wasn't expecting a toss, and ends up leaning rather far back at the weapon whizzes past her, and then back the other way as wind chi brings it back.

"I suppose you DO know how to handle a rod, but I shouldn't be surprised if you got this far." Tamaki thinks she has a better idea of what Djamila is up to, but she elects to feel her out a little more rather than immediately try to take advantage of it. Instead she goes for another approach, leaping as she does and coming out with both feet directly at Djamila; her approach was indirect, but her flight was anything but, as Tamaki either can't change her arc midair or chooses not to.

Whether or not her two-footed dropkick connects, Tamaki lands hard on her back, simply electing to stay down. She presents a smaller vertical target, but she can't be that able to fight from a completely prone position... right?

COMBATSYS: Djamila dodges Tamaki's Lazy Day.

Djamila          0/-------/-------|=======\==-----\1           Tamaki

[DJAMILA]
She can hear her staff hitting the ground. Tamaki won't be an easy target. But that's the main fun of this fight. Either that style will be her downfall, or Djamila will adapt. It also depends if Djamila gets tricked. Will she be? Who knows. Her staff is back in her hand now. She gets ready for what's next.

What's next are two feet aimed at her chest, and right now, Djamila doesn't feel like getting hit. She's back on her staff, again smoothly turning out of harms way.

As soon as Tamaki is on the ground, she disconnects her staff and tries to slam her down on her before using that momentum to be back in the air slightly and get her staff back on the ground, hanging there.

"You have quite the style," She tells her opponent.

COMBATSYS: Tamaki blocks Djamila's Quick Strike.

[TAMAKI]
Tamaki, on the ground, doesn't try to dodge when the blow comes for her, aimed right at her stomach.

At the very last moment she twists and rolls on the floor, pulling her leg up; the blow strikes the side of her thigh instead, which stings but at least doesn't knock the wind out of her. "Thank you," she says, from her rotated position. "I was interested in seeing what you did yourself, and I'm impressed!"

Still from a prone position, Tamaki takes advantage of something no human could do, in an attempt to catch Djamila off guard. She straightens her *tail*, which is apparently stronger than it looks. Using it like an extra limb, she hefts up her lower body and legs on pure tail strength, and when she kicks it's not aimed at Djamila's lower leg but higher up, closer to her stomach.

She flops back down on her back a moment later, because lifting your entire body with what amounts to your butt and back is actually kind of hard. But this time Tamaki rolls to one side, rising from her prone position.

COMBATSYS: Tamaki successfully hits Djamila with Medium Kick.

[DJAMILA]
Djamila didn't hit her intended target but still manage to touch Tamaki, which is something. She's not exactly expecting what comes next.

What happens next is Tamaki getting up with her tail. Djamila is not used to someone with an extra limb like that, or she's not used to someone who can use it that way. Most likely a mix of both. She tries to dodge the kick, but she's late on that. She gets hit in the stomach with a oof. She still managed to hold on to her staff however.

In return, somehow knowing Tamaki is back on the ground, she detaches her staff from said ground and spins in the air, slamming her weapon down, aiming for her. If she hits her target, she jumps and smacks it down on her again.

"That was unusual. I love it. You deserved that kick hitting." She says as she backs up slightly.

[TAMAKI]
"It's a knack," Tamaki says, modestly - just before Djamila comes down at her with a mighty blow!

Already rising, Tamaki bolts upright further, rushing forward a step like she was a sprinter getting a quick start. The staff strikes close enough that it ruffles the fur of her tail and threatens to brush her skirt. She is unharmed... but by mere centimeters.

"Ah, watch the tail!" Tamaki reaches behind her, fluffing it out a little bit, before following up with an attack. This looks to be a longer battle, so she paces herself for a change; she goes in low for a trip, hooking her leg through Djamila's and trying to pull her to the ground. And then -

Well, there's no other word for it. Tamaki attempts a belly-flop on top of the other fighter, slamming her down to the ground and possibly pinning her there for a few moments. Long enough, anyway!

COMBATSYS: Djamila dodges Tamaki's Fierce Combo.

[DJAMILA]
"I bet it's a beautiful tail too. It gives getting some of that a whole new meaning now." She answers Tamaki when she can. It was a bummer she had missed again, but such is life. This was going to be a long fight, and the one who can dodge most will win this sounds like.

Then, what Tamaki wishes to do becomes evident to Djamila as she gets grabbed by her legs. "Ok, no thanks." She gets herself to go limp. One would think she would fall to the ground, gravity and all, but instead, with some wind chi, she fall toward the sky. Just enough to be out of it.

She then hooks by the legs, let herself turn upside down, and reaches for Tamaki's legs to pull them and trip her down.

COMBATSYS: Djamila successfully hits Tamaki with Inside Leg Hang.

Djamila          0/-------/---====|=======\===----\1           Tamaki

[TAMAKI]
Djamila's comment gets Tamaki to laugh again, a loud one. "That's what I'm told," she says, and does not explain further.

Momentarily stymied by Djamila going into the air instead of to the ground, Tamaki's belly flop strikes nothing but the floor. "Gah!" she lets out as she slams into it stomach and chest first with a loud slap and then stays there for a moment. Just a moment, but a moment is enough for Djamila to capitalize and *keep* her down as she starts to rise, tripping her right back down a second time!

Rolling sideways, Tamaki hops up and, at the same time, there is a gust of wind that wraps around her, hiding her in a cloud for a few moments! It doesn't take very long before it clears, but then it's not Tamaki there but... another Djamila? She even has a staff, and Tamaki's tokkuri is missing. Did it transform too? Though, this Djamila still has the striped tail and rounded ears Tamaki does.

"Oh, look at me," Tamaki says, in Djamila's voice, as she twists this way and that to look down at herself. It may be surprising to hear herself talk. "Not bad, not bad...!"

Tamaki-Djamila plants one end of the staff and spins herself on it, lifting herself off the ground to deliver a two-footed kick. Twice, as she manages two complete rotations on the staff before she starts to slip, sliding back to the ground and landing heavily on her feet with another blast of wind and chi.

It leaves Tamaki behind, staggering like she was dreadfully dizzy. She covers this by taking an enormous drink from her tokkuri, wiping her mouth with the back of her hand. "Thank goodness I don't drink happouseishu! Well, today. I don't drink happouseishu today."

COMBATSYS: Tamaki successfully hits Djamila with Art of Transformation - Mirror.

[DJAMILA]
Djamila is happy that trick worked. At least for a little while.

But that all changed when things happens, and she can only say. "What the actual fuck?" Yes, she swears. Please covers your children's ears. She is so surprised though. She doesn't move out of the way nearly quick enough to not get it by one two-footed kick, but two. She crashes into the ground hard with her staff. "Ok, that pisses me off a bit, I have to admit." She is too enervate to do her meditation trick right this second.

Instead, she gets up, hurting quite a bit from this but pushing on. She spins her staff quickly overhead, quicker than she has been before. Creating winds, which she grows with chi, then she glides forward and brings the staff in front of herself to hit Tamaki with the spinning pole and wind chi at the same time. At least if she has her way.

COMBATSYS: Djamila successfully hits Tamaki with Teddy.

Djamila          0/-------/-------|-------\-------\0           Tamaki

[TAMAKI]
"Most people don't mind another one of themselves, at least for a few moments..." Tamaki is back to her normal voice now, too. "Come on! You might like it if you think about it. Though I suppose it *does* lose something if you can't see it..."

Djamila comes in strong, and Tamaki - well, bluntly, Tamaki isn't really entirely prepared for it. She starts to block, realizes she's about to put half a gourd of perfectly good sake in the way of a blow, and goes for a dodge instead - but too late; the pole and swirling winds strike into her one after another, causing her clothes to flap as if caught in a gale and her to lurch backwards, in more pain than she wants to let on.

"Oh, well done!" Rather than go back in immediately, Tamaki takes a break - back to the gourd, though not for as long. This time, though, she lets it build a power in her, her chi surging with a couple mouthfuls of good wine as she focuses herself on the combat with Djamila.

COMBATSYS: Tamaki gathers her will.

[DJAMILA]
After hitting Tamaki with all she got at the moment. Instead of looking tired, Djamila looks better. The wind that struck Tamaki comes back slowly to Djamila and seems to heal her, and refresh her, and it stays around her for a while .

"Thank you. We both can surprise one another. Let's keep it that way." She says and slams her staff down on the ground.

"Oh, we take a pause? Fine." She says as Tamaki doesn't immediately go for a counter-offensive. Djamila holds onto her staff and swings her hips around to music only she can hear, and she makes the 'om sound. Making herself feel even better.

COMBATSYS: Djamila makes the om sound and wind chi flies around her for a short moment.

[TAMAKI]
"Just a short one," is Tamaki's answer to that. "I don't think they'd like us to actually stop the match... and I still want to see how it ends!"

And indeed, the mutual gathering of energies seems to have only amped the audience up; they want more. If the two of them continued to not fight, anticipation would turn to irritation, but for the moment they want to see more and Tamaki is not going to disappoint.

Seeing as Djamila looks relatively open, swinging her hips, Tamaki chooses to *not* approach but keep her distance. She turns, facing away from Djamila, and flicks her tail at her opponent; a sphere of shining chi the size of a basketball drifts away from her tailtip, slow at first but slowly accelerating as it sheds some of its mass, looking more like a comet of rainbow energy than anything else.

COMBATSYS: Djamila dodges Tamaki's Swaying Tail.

[DJAMILA]
She continues dancing. "Oh, there is no intention to stop this fight until one of us is down. I don't think you would stop either." Djamila says. "I've knocked out all of my opponents. Even in the fights I've lost. So I am not breaking my streak if I can help it." She gives a wink.

While she is still dancing, Tamaki on her end now prepares something. Not that she can see it with her own eyes, but she knows. She just keeps dancing, however. It looks like she's not aware of that sphere of energy. But at the last moment, she slides herself on the ground until her crotch touches her staff, the sphere passing over her. Then she sensually lifts herself with her legs and arms into a bridge, her crotch rubbing against the pole. Yes, she's a stripper to her soul.

She then gets up fully and gets ready to attack now. She unhooks her staff from the ground and runs toward Tamaki. Then she uses her pole (like a pole) using it to launch herself toward Tamaki. As she is flying, she spins her staff on her shoulder, hoping to catch Tamaki off-guard with that strange move.

COMBATSYS: Tamaki dodges Djamila's Random Strike.

[TAMAKI]
There is applause at Djamila's dancing from Tamaki, because she is always pleased to see something impressive, no matter what it is.

"Oh, well done! But I think this is a bit of a *different* kind of wrestling," Tamaki says, though given that Djamila is literally running at her she's pretty sure both kinds are about to be handled. Djamila pole-vaults at her, then strikes staff-first -

Tamaki weaves low and then suddenly straightens. The staff has missed her, but if she manages the proper drop and lift she's going to toss Djamila over her shoulder to land somewhere behind her, accompanied with a cheerful laugh.

"You use your jug how you want. I will use mine how I want." She's just teasing when she answers. She's having fun.

But then Tamaki does a great dodge, followed by a quick reaction to grab her. Djamila grabs hold of the spinning staff, pondering what to do. But then, as Tamaki throws her over her shoulder, she feels it could have been worse. She uses the momentum to plan her staff on the ground, not getting hurt by that throw.

And she keeps the momentum by turning and using her legs to deliver a kick toward Tamaki's back if she gets her way. But she also knows Tamaki is quick, so who knows at this point? All she knows, she has respect her opponent.

COMBATSYS: Djamila successfully hits Tamaki with Evasive Strike.

[TAMAKI]
"I prefer mine to stay full," Tamaki says, before taking another swig from the tokkuri -

Oh. Wait. It's pretty much empty. She makes a face.

Djamila plants her staff, goes for a kick. Tamaki isn't quite ready for this - she's turned the wrong way, and though she's turning to meet Djamila she doesn't manage it fast enough. The kick hits her in the side rather than the back with enough force to drive her back, sending her rolling a couple steps' worth of distance before she pops back to her feet. She can't take much more of that!

Tamaki advances, but not with intent to put her hands on Djamila. Instead, she brings her hand up - and thumps her own stomach.

Tamaki isn't exactly rail-thin. She's not really fat either, but she's a little soft; there's some meat there, some thickness to her frame. But when she thumps her stomach it makes a booming sound almost like a bass drum and there's a flicker of rainbow chi.

She begins to drum a rhythm with her left hand, and shockwaves of chi and kinetic force radiate off her in waves, making colorful bursts that blast about five feet away from her before starting to fade away. "And a little unsteady!" she says, over the sound of tanukibayashi.

[DJAMILA]
She felt her foot hitting something. Doesn't feel like a back, but whatever gets hit, it works. She's not complaining at all.

There is an answer to this soon enough. An attack that is not quite conventional, at least not to Djamila, but she feels something. It's not just someone hitting their belly for fun. She ends up jumping on top of her staff, keeping her equilibrium. But that's not enough. She isn't sure her staff can support the blow. With intense concentration, she tries to lift herself and her staff with wind chi. She has sweat coming out of her brows, but it seems to work. Although when it's time to land, her pole hits the ground harder than she intended to, she uses that, rocking her, but she tries to use that momentum to grab her staff back and spin with her legs extended. In a sort of helicopter kick, until she reaches the ground. The dodge she just did, is not something she could do many times in a match right now. She got lucky, and she knows it.

COMBATSYS: Tamaki blocks Djamila's Chopper Spin.

[TAMAKI]
The echoes die away as Tamaki stops the drumming, if only to give herself a moment to recover - it's not actually easy to blast that much chi out, just ask any fighter who can do it. She's breathing harder after it.

But it was hard for both of them. Djamila had to lift herself, which makes Tamaki raise her eyebrows, but she doubts it was any easier on that end of it... especially with a helicopter kick at the end of it.

Tamaki uses both arms to absorb the impact of the blow rather than let it strike home. "Ha ha! I think we are getting close to the end...!" She needs to actually pull something impressive to win at this point; Djamila just needs to keep chipping her down, slow and steady.

So Tamaki goes big.

Literally.

She spins again, striking with that extra limb - her tail. But her tail grows and grows as she swings it, and it's more like getting hit by a furry mattress; soft and yielding over a surprisingly forceful blow from a massive object.

Tamaki hops up afterwards and sits on her own tail like it was a beanbag chair as it curls up beneath her, no smaller. She needs to catch her breath a moment, too.

"Well blocked." She tells her opponent, as she feels she is hitting only her arms. She certainly does not expect what comes next.

That tail that grows is so very big. Another wtf moment. Djamila thinks she can jump on that swinging tail to dodge and do something cool. That doesn't work at all, and she gets hit hard. There is even a bit of a cracking sound coming from Djamila. She makes sure to put the end of her staff down to not go as far as she should go from that strong blow. But she falls on one knee, really by this.

It's also at this point she gets into the meat of things. Her mind goes overdrive. She can't go out like this. She has to go on and give Tamaki a run for her money. There will be enough time after to listen to the pain.

She stands back up, and moves as close as she can. If she needs to slam her staff down into the tail to do it well, she will have to do just that. She slams the staff down in front of her. Then she gets on her staff upright. She then spins, using wind chi to give her more and more momentum. Then as she spins, she goes for a roundhouse kick toward Tamaki.

[TAMAKI]
Tamaki keeps her tail safely tucked (mostly) underneath her to avoid Djamila slamming her staff on it.

Having something to sit on in no way protects her otherwise, though. As Djamila approaches, Tamaki can think of only one way to get out of the way quickly enough: she returns her tail to normal, leaving her briefly sitting on nothing at all.

Then she falls, because gravity is a thing. Djamila's roundhouse kick arcs right over Tamaki's head as she sprawls, followed by the gust of wind - but by then Tamaki has smacked her own stomach one more time, sending a single bright wave of chi outward!

Tamaki's chi catches the wind chi, blasting it right back at Djamila, possibly sending her back and giving Tamaki some distance so she can stand up again. She rubs at the side of her back as she does. "You have put me on my back more times than anyone else this tournament," she accuses, sounding more amused than upset.

[DJAMILA]
Djamila is not surprised when Tamaki manages to dodge blow. She is isappointed, but not surprised. Tamaki has been quick all match. What surprises her though, is when the wind is send back at her. It's doesn't really hurt her that much, just adding to the toll on her body. But it does send her away. She is quite surprised. "Oof, that was cool. Unexpected but cool. " She takes a small pause, then she adds. "Oh, I don't need to be in a tournament to get you on your back the most." She sticks out her tongue, teasing again. She feels her body tired and hurting, but not ready to give yet.

She starts running toward Tamaki, and uses her staff as a pole again. She lauches herself with a jump kick toward Tamaki. Simple but who knows. It could be efficient.

"Hmm hmm~."

Tamaki hadn't expected to like Djamila as much as she did - mostly out of lack of knowledge, she hadn't known very much about her. But that doesn't mean she's going to take it easy - or give up. There's a bronze medal on the line!

Tamaki has never had any medal at all, for any purpose. She has decided she would quite like one.

Djamila comes, and once again Tamaki is... ready? Maybe? She makes it look accidental - a weaving, bobbing motion to one side that looks like a staggering step - but it isn't; instinctive rather than practiced, but definitely on purpose.

She follows this up by flipping backwards, landing on her palms and throwing herself in an arcing kick! This time she lands on her feet, possibly by springing off Djamila - she could have used it to get up from the ground, but instead she's just voluntarily doing a palm-spring kick at her. It's a last-ditch effort to take the prize - she can't keep going much longer...

Djamila feels like Tamaki is pushing her in a lot of different ways. It helps her better herself. So she feels anyway. It's something that goes through her mind as her flying kick hits no one. She lands and can't help but laugh a bit.

She doesn't have time to ponder more, however, as she needs to be ready for another attack. She manages to make a last-moment split, to not be where she is supposed to be. She even lays the rest of her body backward to have the smallest amount of vertical height possible. It seems to work, as she isn't in any more pain than she was before.

She then slowly gets back up, slam her staff down, and starts dancing again and doing the om sound. It might be a weird choice, but it's the one Djamila makes, and she sticks her tongue out again like she's saying, 'Come at me girl.'

Djamila is basically taunting her to come at her.

Tamaki grins. Who is she to say no?

But she has an idea. She unhooks her tokkuri and tosses it to one side in a high arc. It's not aimed at Djamila at all! It won't get anywhere close to her. It will just hit the stage.

At the same instant it hits - loudly, because it's an empty gourd; there's the distinct hollow thump of impact and then a noise as the oddly shaped gourd rolls around - Tamaki leaps, rocketing toward Djamila. The sound of her jumping is obscured by the sound of the gourd hitting some distance away.

It's a more feral attack than her usual. She grabs at Djamila, trying to roll with her to the ground and end up underneath, with her legs against Djamila's stomach - and then kick her up and away, sending her high into the air before she lands!

COMBATSYS: Tamaki successfully hits Djamila with Hair of the Raccoon-Dog.

[DJAMILA]
Djamila doesn't only know things with her ears. It's a clever idea, however. and could have been it. A good guess. Though to be fair, it distracts her because why is there noise there kind of deal? That makes her just a tad too slow to dodge, and she gets grabbed, rolling with her. That's not too bad. What is bad is when she gets kicked high up in the air. She lands back on the ground hard with a thumb. That has hurt her. She has great trouble getting back up.

"Wind grant me your strength right now!!" She pushes her body to full capacity. Her staff flies back into her hand. This is all or nothing now. She swings her staff at high speed to trip Tamaki if she can. Then if that succeeds, she jumps and slams her staff on her, using wind chi to push her ever harder into the ground. Then she can't stay up on her feet. She can only hope she manages to knock out Tamaki, for longer than she might be.

COMBATSYS: Djamila can no longer fight.

[TAMAKI]
Djamila does indeed trip Tamaki. She rises right into it, catches the low swing and almost literally faceplants into the stage floor. It looks somewhere between painful and comedic, like someone pulled the animation out of a cartoon.

But Tamaki manages to roll over after it and sit up. She's laughing despite the fact that she is going to have a hell of a set of bruises very soon, including across her face. "Ha ha ha! That was the best fight I have had yet, and I am including the one with the winner of this tournament!"
