Match of the Millennium

Description: In an early round of the FightFest, Kenzo Kuroiwa and his gadgets are matched up against Guinevere Bouvier and her psionic abilities to see who will go on to the next round. The action is fast and furious.

[GENIE]
The festival grounds have drawn quite a crowd, as its been a while since a rookie tournament has had this much support. Seeing new faces is always a draw, especially for those who love to be in on the "ground floor" for a newcomer's rise to stardom.

On one end of the stage is Guinevere "Genie" Bouvier, presently dressed it looks to be an unmarked generic gi in a blue that compliments the dark red of her hair, which is presently held back with a hairband. She moves toward the center one step at a time and overly stiff. She manages a polite, subdued wave to the crowd. She has not assumed a fighting stance, at least not one that Kenzo would likely recognize.

[KENZO]
Suddenly a drone flies above the festival grounds before settling in above stage on the other side. After a short pause, a fog is emitted from the drone which is blown down onto the stage. Then the drone flies off. When the fog fades away, a slim individual of Japanese descent stands before Genie.

Kenzo Kuroiwa, wearing his combat suit, figured that he might as well make an entrance if he's going to make a splash. Also, the fog machine drone could allow him to show off the first of the many tech that he would like to display in NFG.

He then holds the sickle of his kusari-gama in one hand while spinning the weight on the chain in the other hand.

He aborts the spin long enough to bow to Genie and then returns to his stance, spinning the weight once more.

"May the best fighter win."

Genie ducks her head when the drone flies in, regardless of the fact its likely well and clear over anyone's. When the ninja appears, well, she doesn't quite jump, but there's a noticeable tensing up.

"oh, hello. You must be Mr. Kuroiwa." Genie bows deeply and stiffly. She eyes the kusarigama for a moment, chewing her lip.

"A-ah. Yes! May the best fighter win! Shall we get started then?"

The Swiss girl inhales deeply then hops forward, throwing an awkward kick that has the fundamentals, but seems ... newly practiced.

As the Swiss girl moves in, the Japanese man raises his leg to check the kick creating shin to shin contact. There is little noise in response beyond an exhalation of breath. He then steps forward to get into closer range.

Once close, he then attempts to wrap his arms around Genie's waist before leaping into the air and flipping backward to then dive back downward to drive his opponent head first into the ground.

Genie makes a noise that sounds a bit like "yeep" when she's not only blocked, but the shinobi wraps his arms around her waist. As she flounders, trying to push him away, the two of them go airborne, spiraling through the air before she's bodily slammed into the ground. The Swiss lady rolls around as she recovers, clutching her head.

"Ow ow ow..." she mumbles something in French, or maybe German. It is probably inappropriate for polite company since Genie quickly clasps her hands over her mouth. The return to her head with a whimper, however, when she stands up. "T-that was very impressive! Is that --" Genie swallows. Her eyes are watering a little. "Is that a ninjutsu technique?!" She asks a little too loudly. Perhaps her ears are wringing.

"--oh, I should use one of my special moves." Genie thinks aloud. She clenches her teeth and furrows her brow, drawing a hand back. Closing her eyes for a moment, she seems deep in concentration until, suddenly, a flash of purple-pink energy, roughly javelin-shaped, appears in her hand.

"Hiyaaah!" She throws it toward the Japanese man, taking several times forward as she does.

As Genie draws her hand back the readouts he's getting from the heads up display in his augmented reality eyewear is indicating whatever that energy is that's building up in her hand is not something he wants to be in the path of. Both he and his combat specs are right. He didn't want to be in the path of it. Unfortunately, as he attempts to leap out of the way, the energy spear snipes him out of the air sending him into a wild spin before he finds himself rolling on the ground.

"Oof. That packs quite a punch..."

He rises back up to his feet as he gets himself together. Sickle still held in one hand while weight is spinning on the chain held in the other. His approach is slow at first and then he rapidly spins the chain in a figure 8 pattern while electricity crackles along the entire length of the chain as he attempts to bash her over the head repeatedly over and over again before performing a skip backwards and to the side.

"A-ah! Sorry if it was a bit much. It's a work in progress! ... eep!" Genie finds herself without time to say much more because Kenzo is whirling chains and lightning around in a deft manuever with his kusarigama. In that moment, young Swiss woman takes several deep breaths, one, then two, then three, and furrows her brow again.

"Just like you practice, Genie, and -- yah!!"

She thrusts her palms out and that same sparkly energy gathers into a vague shield shape, though it looks more like a frisbee or a manhole cover. No matter the faulty shape, it still is solid and reflective, able to deflect the chains and lightning back away toward Kenzo!

[KENZO]
The weight slams into the shield and then he suddenly has all of that electricity redirected into him with the weight smacking into his head. There's a moment where his combat specs overload and his readouts are nonexistent. His systems get a moment to reboot as he gets up once more.

He reaches behind himself and pulls out a spherical device and sends his electrical energy into it before dropping it at Genie's feet. There's a moment of delay before a burst of electricity erupts from it like it was a grenade of energy. After taking his own energy on the chin, he knew this was probably a bad idea but he was desperate. He had to hit her /hard./

COMBATSYS: Genie dodges Kenzo's Pulse Device.

When the device comes out, Genie is breaking her concentration on her shield. It disipates as soon as she stops focusing on it, but there's no time to linger on that when Kenzo is already pulling out another dangerous gadget.

"Oh!" Genie backsteps, sucks in, and hops backward -- as she does, however, something seems to throw her a second time, taking her clear of the explosion before landing her flat on her rump. She plants her hands and rises to her feet while rubbing her seat. "O-ow. These inventions are really impressive, Mr. Kuroiwa. Do they all run on your own energy?"

Genie puts a hand to her chest and takes several deep breaths, taking a moment to gather her bearings. As she does, her hair starts to lift up as if blown by an unusual breeze.

COMBATSYS: Genie gathers her will.

His lips turn downward into a frown when he watches Genie practically fall out of the way of his shock grenade. Other than his opening defense and his Izuna Drop he had yet to truly show off what he could do technologically or in his technique. He needed to change his approach.

"Not all of it... The drone is solar powered."

He takes a deep breath and centers himself. While he's doing that, he's setting his combat specs to get a more detailed read on his opponent. What data he already had hasn't been helping much at this point.

COMBATSYS: Kenzo focuses on his next action.

"Oh, that's fascinating! Surely you started engineering before college, then? I, ah, I did ... read your bio ..." Genie rubs the side of her face. She seems to be reddening just a little.

Genie does not seem particularly impressive quite yet, but she likely puts off some strange and unusually high energy readings. She rubs her palms together, and those energy readings spike again. "Ah, anyway! Let me try -- this one!" The Suisse woman bounces on her heels and then sprints toward Kenzo. As she does, power seems to crackle around her and then suddenly, in her palm, she seems to be holding a loosely shaped blob of power. She jumps in, drawing her palm back, then tries to slam forward and down with it, like she's awkwardly dunking a basketball.

COMBATSYS: Genie successfully hits Kenzo with Par-Lui-Fet EX.

His systems glitch out. Probably due to having his own energy overload the suit when he was force fed his energy courtesy of her shield. Perhaps it was something he had missed in his code. Whatever the reason, when he attempts to leap out of the way, his body gets launched into the blob of energy.

His world becomes one of pain as every nerve in his body feels as though they are on fire. It becomes too much for him and he simply collapses.

COMBATSYS: Kenzo takes no action.

"A-ah!" Genie is still standing there with her palm extended when Kenzo comes to a stop from the rolling. She blinks several times.

"Are you OK?!" she asks abruptly, throwing out the fact that this too could be a ruse to leave her exposed to a counterattack. She sprints toward the Japanese man and hunkers down. "I didn't think it'd hit quite that hard -- should I call for a medic?"
