SNF 2018.03 - SNF: The Riddle of the Minotaur

[Toggle Names]

Description: Long ago, this was the legendary labyrinth for which the minotaur roamed. Now? It is only stone and dust, stacked around the centuries of growth. But what is gone is not forgotten. Here, two professional assassins face off far away from the crowds, to a more private battle between two fights. The alluring Angel challenges against the mysterious Duo Lon, as the pair battle in the moonlight as the glories of the minoan civilization stares in silence.

"Great. Now turn and give us a look over your shoulder! I want a good angle."

Clustered up at the edge of a massive pile of rocks that allegedly used to be part of an impressive ancient city, a dozen or so people jockey with each other as they hold up phones and cameras in an attempt to get an optimal view for a picture, though it is not the ruins that currently has their attention. Strobe-like flashes of light fill the air as a young woman complies with the request, pirouetting playfully on the toes of her large cowboy boots to turn her shapely backside towards a small crowd of onlookers. She arches her back in an overtly suggestive fashion as she gives them a sultry wink, posing like a super-model at a fashion show.

"I have nothing /but/ good angles, gringo!"

Angel shakes her rear as she emphasizes the word earning some amused laughs from the audience and sparking off several more flashes as the moment is captured for posterior-ty. Having just come from the craziness that was the Golden Angel tournament, the famous Mexican fighter's popularity is at an all time high. The amount of PR that water-gun fight had earned her was incredible and, even if things went sideways at the end, it was one of the more enjoyable things she's gotten to participate in for a while.

However, her bikini has been set aside for now, replaced with her usual choice of ensemble in the form of her leather bomber jacket, thong, and chaps. It's a pretty unique look that leaves very little to imagination, clearly taking its inspirations from the costumes of female wrestlers. That or she just tumbled into a random pile of assorted leather garments one day and decided to go with whatever she grabbed first. Either way, Angel's daring style has earned her a lot of fans around the world and she's never been shy about giving them some eye candy. No harm passing the time with some fun while she waits for her opponent to show up.

Behind the tanned teenager lies the set for the upcoming match. For the most part, it's just the ruins themselves. There's plenty of obstacles laying around, piles of ancient stone rubble and half-shattered walls creating an arena of sorts. With the sun having long since dived below the horizon the darkness has been dispelled by a series of powerful flood lights set up around the perimeter of the rubble. Though a sizable area has been illuminated there's still plenty of nooks and corners that lie draped in shadow to provide ample hiding places for a skilled assassin to launch an ambush.

Atleast a dozen cameras are scattered about the place as well, each manned with a pair of operators wearing official SNF crew ID tags and large headsets. A few of the staff go through some last minute electronics checks but most of them are directed towards the scantily-clad fighter as she postures for her fans, most likely already broadcasting to draw in some more viewers.

That suits Duo Lon, that the cameras are mostly aimed at Angel. He's not exactly the most photogenic of people. Mind, it's not that he's what one could call ugly. Particularly not his face (even if he DOES look like a woman at first glance). He just doesn't care to 'mug' for the cameras. And he hasn't gone out of his way to get dressed up, either; he's in one of his usual dark suits with the long shirt. Though he IS an incredibly gangly fella, and he looks like he's all legs. That would probably count against him if he actually gave a crap about these ratings.

Then again, noticing any of these things would require him to actually BE WHERE HE COULD BE SEEN. And he's not. There's a sound in the shadows like sand, and there he is. Where the cameras can't see him. He has a trap to set.

Oh, Angel isn't his target -- one of the crew is. Someone's not what he purports to be. Though first he has to make sure the target's HERE. So that means he needs to observe. And he should have plenty of time while Angel mugs for the camera. And with all the attention being focused on her, if someone's looking around nervously, there's probably a reason...

Whether he finds his target or not is unclear, but in short order he appears from the darkness, walking out of the shadow as if he'd been there for a while. Which he kind of had been. There's no one-liners or threats. Duo merely asks, "...Is everything ready?" Including the opponent!

Angel continues to happily show off for the cameras while the much more professional assassin lurks in the shadows to gather intelligence. When he finally decides to reveal himself, the teen turns mid-pose to peer back his way and offers a dopey lop-sided grin in response to his question. The expression somehow manages to make her look more appealing rather than less, perhaps enhancing her carefree attitude or adding a bit of odd charm to go with her unique personality; or maybe she just looks good no matter what she's doing.

"Been ready for a while now, tall, dark and creepy, but I figured I'd let you sit back there and oogle for a bit since you seemed like the shy sort."

The girl's statement seems to indicate that she was aware of his presence the entire time, though whether that is true or not is impossible to tell. If she's lying, he'll probably never know because that goofy expression she's wearing wouldn't tell him a darn thing even if he is skilled in reading people by their body language.

"Alright, peep show's over, losers. Angel's gotta go slap this guy around now."

Angel gives the crowd one final picture-worthy pose, leaning forward as she lifts her hands to the sides of her head. Her index fingers point up as they come to rest against her temples and she wiggles them in tandem, sticking her tongue out like some kind of punk rockstar making the sign of the devil. While there isn't a stadium full of metal-heads to drown her in adulation, the small crowd does its best to offer what encouragment they can and she soaks it up all the same.

The camera crews all take their places as the bombastic teen wanders over to the center of the ruins, every lens turning to focus upon the soon-to-be-battlefield. Angel stretches a bit as she walks, tilting back and forth in ways that stretch her already tight outfit in interesting manners. She bends down to touch her toes at one point, giving the people and cameras behind her another eyefull while she waits for Duo to join her.

If Duo's surprised that she seems to have known he was there, he doesn't show it. Then again he doesn't show much emotion in the first place, so... yeah. Anyway. When Angel heads towards their assigned battle-point, Duo does as well. He doesn't bother her fanclub, either.

Duo seems to pause a moment, his eyes narrowing, as he assesses his opponent. There's quite a bit of space between the two of them, but the punch he throws seems to cover it pretty nicely. Fact, it seems to be trying to bridge the distance regardless of how unrealistic it seems to be for his arm to be able to stretch that far. The arm blurs as the punch is thrown.

Despite her lazy attitude, Angel proves to be quite swift in her response to the sudden strike. Her eyes widen in surprise and she snaps to the side, swatting the weird stretchy attack away from her even as she steps out of its direct line of approach. Her movements are strange, almost comical and over-exaggerated without any real sign of technique to them as if she'd just made that defensive move up on the spot.

"Woah! I thought that weird yogi guy was the only one who did the stretchy arm shit. Man, I hope that crap isn't becoming more popular."

Grinning again, she falls into something resembling a combat stance, though it too seems almost intentionally awkward as her hands wiggle in the air rather than take up defensive positions infront of it. She draws back her right fist as if to mimick Duo Lon's long-range punch. When she swings, however, it is not to strike but to unleash the small chuck of rock she'd picked up when pretending to stretch earlier.

"Well I don't have rubber arms but I do have...this! Aiyah!"

Feet planted where they are, Duo doesn't have much in the way of defensive ability when that rock is thrown. The fact that it hits him right between the eyes doesn't help. He's thrown back, the quiet sound he makes partly of pain and partly of surprise.

He doesn't get to his feet immediately, but stays in a crouch, his head down. He's kind of bleeding at the moment, not to mention that he's dizzy.

Angel thrusts a fist into the air when her pitch manages to drive right down the center line and bean the weirdo in the forehead. Her victory fist-pump is echoed behind her by the throng of fans who let out hoots and cheers at her incredible aim.

"Booyah! How do you like that Mr. Creepyarms? Angel's got some tricks up her sleeves too!"

Apparently Duo Lon's injuries don't seem to concern his opponent as she quickly moves towards him, grinning while cracking her knuckles through the fingerless gloves on her hands. As cute and adorable as she might be, she's never been particularly nice when it comes to fighting. The only rule in a street fight is that there aren't any rules. If someone isn't good enough to avoid getting injured then that's their problem. She here to win and if that means kicking a guy while he's down well then he'd better be ready for some size seven boot prints to go with that rock indention on his forehead.

"Better buckle up, bucko, because this is gonna be rough!"

The last couple of feet between Angel and the staggered assassin vanish as the teenager becomes a literal blur of motion, her body translocating across the distance in the blink of an eye. She reappears behind Duo Lon, her leg alread raisedy to deliver a brutal kick to the back of his head. However, as her foot extends she quickly reverses the direction, hooking it around his neck to try and draw him back in for more punishment!

Whether Duo realizes what's going on before it's too late or not is anybody's guess. He doesn't get out of the way in time, though, and Angel's attacks all connect. He's not offering any sort of defense, he doesn't even seem to be TRYING to get out of the way, or even to raise his arms to block. And with her foot around his neck, there isn't much he can offer in the way of offense, either...

COMBATSYS: Duo Lon takes no action.

Duo Lon          0/-------/-======|>>-----\-------\0            Angel

It seems pretty weird that her opponent isn't putting up much of a fight. Or, any of a fight. Most people atleast try to block or something. Maybe that rock knocked something loose in his head. Oh well, his loss. People came to see her pummel some dork and she's not about to let them down just because the guy's a weirdo.

Tightening her grip around Duo's neck, she leans in and peers at him, scratching her head. Several of the spectators boo at his performance or maybe because they're jealous that he's lucky enough to have this bronze goddess' thigh wrapped around his face. Either way, he isn't winning any points.

"Hey, uh, you plan to actually participate in this fight? Not that I mind an easy win but... you got a masochism fetish or something? Well, whatever, enjoy the free beating I guess!"

Leaning backwards, Angel leaps into the fall turning her movement into a devastating flip. She drags Duo Lon along for the ride, sending him head-first into the hard stone as she drives his skull downwards with an acrobatic display that would make any pro-wrestler green with envy.

It WOULD have been a devastating flip and skull-first piledrive into the ground that probably would have shattered his skull. Probably would have ended the fight too, and necessitated a trip to the ER. If they could have gotten out here before Duo's brains COMPLETELY oozed out his ears.

Fortunately he managed to collect himself in time to barely make a getaway. Angel will find that the weirdo she's been pummeling dissolves into ash and sand. So be careful, Angel, you might end up with sand in places you don't want it.

He reforms just above her and, without much ceremony, spins in the air, aiming a double roundhouse kick at her.

COMBATSYS: Angel auto-guards Duo Lon's Ikazuchika Matome Ito.

Well, this is more like it! Nothing makes a fight more interesting than some crazy super powers and that certainly manages to be impressive. Angel completes her backwards flip, minus the payload, but still manages to stick the landing with her usual casual grace. She flops onto her side and rolls to a crouch, snapping her arms up to push each of the rapid spin kicks up and over her head with quick circling motions that she might have seen in a movie or something.

"Eat your heart out, Mr. Miyagi!"

Now that her opponent is actually fighting back, Angel starts to get more into it. She hops back to her feet and stands on one leg, making ridiculous howling noises that sound like a cat being strangled as she poses like a stork. After a couple of seconds of embarrassing everyone who's ever taken kung-fu, she lunges into an actual attack, leaping forward at Duo Lon only to drop back down to the ground in a low sliding kick that aims to trip him up and put him on the ground. Like before, she seems capable of moving in bursts of speed that make it difficult to keep track of the girl, her body blurring into streaks of dark color as she rushes him.

COMBATSYS: Duo Lon barely manages to escape Angel's Impotent Syndrome EX!

The best defense for an attack you can't see coming?

Don't be in the area.

Duo's body again dissolves into ashes just as her first kick is thrown. It's a near thing, though; her kick sweeps through the ashes at about the level of his head and scatter them across the arena.

He doesn't stay gone long, though; he's trying to reappear behind her. It's too fast for him to gather much of an offense though, so he just aims a kick at her back.

COMBATSYS: Angel dodges Duo Lon's Light Kick.

Chosing to attack from behind proves to be a bad decision as the sliding kick simply carries Angel out of range of the retalitory strike. She keeps her head low to avoid getting clipped, just in case. The guy has stretchy arms, it stands to reason his legs are all rubbery too. Fortunately, he chooses not to exercise this power, should he possess it, allowing her to get back to her feet without incident.

"You're a slippery little bugger," she says, grinning at him as she wiggles her fingers like some kind of creeper about to do unspeakable things to him. And with Angel that's never terribly far off the mark. "C'mere, let's wrassle!"

Rushing towards the evasive assassin, Angel drops down low and comes in via power slide once more. This time instead of just trying to plow over him over like a bulldozer the girl opens her legs to engulf Duo Lon's ankles, snapping them in opposite directions as she draws close like a pair of scissors. It's a pretty classic take-down manuever but delivered with a bit of extra style and crunch thanks to her enhanced strength and speed.

The sliding leg grab takes Duo's legs out from under him, and he grunts as he hits the ground. He's visibly moving more slowly than he was -- whatever he did must have taken enough effort that he hasn't recovered from it yet. But even like this his offensive options aren't completely exhausted. Even if it's obviously a last-ditch effort. He Flicks his head, sending the bead on the end of his hair sailing at her.

It would seem that almost every part of this creepy guy's body is designed to be used as a weapon from long range. Angel quickly hops back to her feet, intending to pressure her opponent with further attacks, but the sudden hair-whip catches her off guard and she's forced to abandon that idea. The Mexican rolls to the side at the last second, managing to avoid getting clobbered by the make-shift flail but she isn't quick enough to avoid it completely. The heavy bludgeon catches her in the shoulder as she jukes, glancing off at a bad angle but still managing to stagger her.

It only dissuades the aggressive girl for a moment, however, and she quickly throws herself back into melee. Stretchy limbs don't offer any advantages up close, or so she hopes. Coming in quick and fearless, Angel reaches out to try and grapple the assassin, holding him fast so she can deliver a couple of rapid knee strikes to his kidneys or other vital organs that might foolishly be located nearby.

Duo Lon          1/-----==/=======|>>>>>>>\-------\0            Angel

Stretchy limbs may not offer much in the way of advantage up close, but if the limbs are stretchy, it's a good bet the rest of him's pretty bendy too. Which at least offers him a little help here. It doesn't help him get out of grapple range, but as the knee comes up, Duo twists his body in an unnatural way to protect those kidneys. The knee hits him in the side, prompting a grunt, but at least his kidneys are still intact.

And, well... while she's so very close...

Angel might be able to see his bangs and the long tails of his shirt starting to float up a little... and then a massive explosion of his grayish-blue energy erupts around him. Not just that, but inside the eruption of energy, it almost looks like... wailing faces? And IS that the sound of wailing?! Like... like ghosts?!

- Power fail! -

Duo Lon          0/-------/----===|======-\-------\0            Angel

Heh, heh, now she's got him right where she wants the little bugger. Up close and personal! This is where she makes the magic happen, combing that speed and power of hers with a childhood's worth of pro-wrestling television. Sure, she's never had an actual training or anything like that but, comon, it's wrestling - how hard can it be?

Angel leans in as she sees her opponent wind up, preparing to catch whatever attack he throws at her in order to put him in a world of hurt. Except instead of punching or kicking, he just kind of explodes in her face. A fairly common problem she has with men and it's no more pleasant this time than any other. Her eyes bug out and she lets out a shriek of pain as the roaring spirit volcano engulfs her at point blank leaving her temporarily stunned and vulnerable.

That is an unfortunate problem, isn't it? And one that so many men have. It's so very disappointing, isn't it?

Though in this case Duo seems to have made it work in his favor, at least temporarily. It's not quite a second wind, but after his poor start, he'll take anything he can get.

Hopefully she'll stay stunned long enough for him to reach towards her, try to grab hold of her jacket, and then suddenly surge forward in that unnatural way he moves. If he can manage, he'll be trying to plant his shoulder in her chest with a powerful slide/charge.

COMBATSYS: Angel blocks Duo Lon's Shuishu Shoukou.

Duo Lon          0/-------/----===|=======\-------\1            Angel

Despite the horrible sensation of whatever the hell that was, Angel manages to recover rather quickly. One of the many advantages of being a human guinea pig all her life is that pain doesn't have nearly as much effect on her as it might other people. She's pretty buddy buddy with suffering, it's not like she just took a pill and became a super soldier or something. NESTS isn't particularly delicate in their experimental practices.

The teen brings her arms up to ward off the powerful rush, staggering backwards a couple of steps as she catches the bony shoulder on her guard. It stings a bit but compared to the energy explosion it's hardly even worth mentioning. Angel winces a bit, just so the guy feels all manly and stuff though. She's considerate like that. Also her everything hurts so it's not entirely fake.

"Ow, by the way. Just thought I'd let you know."

Leading in with that particularly witty banter, the teen dispenses with the fancy shit and just gets dirty. Her fist draws back as she prepares to deliver a gut-busting body blow to Don Lon's abdomen, focusing all of her considerable ire at being nuked into the strike. But before that happens, she suddenly drives her foot down atop his, trying to stomp it flat so as to distract him and make getting away from her that much harder.

Duo Lon          0/-------/-======|=======\=------\1            Angel

Duo had been concentrating on what looked like an incoming fist at his abdomen. He wasn't watching her feet. This proves to be a mistake, and he's about to pay for it. The stomp to his foot gets a sharp inhalation of surprise, and it leaves him wide open for that punch to the abdomen. The air is knocked out of him, and he drops to a knee. It doesn't look like he's going to get back up, either -- his teeth are clenched and bared, and that is most definitely a trail of blood leaking from the corner of his mouth.

Weirdly, his blood is abnormally dark, almost black, and has a strange oily appearance to it. Like he's leaking red-tinted motor oil or something...

But don't celebrate quite yet, Angel. Your weird opponent has a little bit left in him. It's a sudden movement, one set into motion with an odd lurching -- a 'pushing for it' motion, as if he's reaching deep for the strength he needs for this.

He reaches forward again, trying to grab hold of her jacket again. But this time he also tries to swing his other arm towards her, aiming to rake his nails over anything exposed! So it turns out those long nails aren't just pretty, but functional too.

[                                < >  //////////////                ]
Duo Lon          0/-------/--=====|=------\-------\0            Angel

Hey Booby, this is a trap!

The gut-punch, while satisfying in its own right, was delivered with something a little more sinister in mind. Seeing that the assassin was already on the ropes, she'd aimed to put him in a position that forced him to deliver a predictable attack and one that she could easily deal with. Like a good little boy, he'd walked right into it.

Angel is already moving by the time Duo Lon lunges at her, her body twisting to the side as she lifts her leg up defensively to catch his outstretched hand. His attempt to grab at her is foiled by this action and she promptly reverses the momentum, darting in close to snap her hand around his neck before those wicked nails can be brought to bear upon her.

"Hope you had a light dinner because it's time to eat the floor, chump!"

Angel spins around with a short but powerful leap, heaving the assassin up over her shoulder with no more trouble than if he were made of feathers. She drops to the floor on her stomach in a controlled fall but Duo Lon's landing is much less pleasant, hitting the stone floor of the ancient ruins with all of the teen's strength behind the body slam.

To be fair, Duo's pretty light anyway. Being skinny as a rail tend to have that effect. Unfortunately it also makes picking him up and bodyslamming him incredibly easy. That might be the sound of something important cracking, or that might be a grunt. It's hard to tell though; the sound of the impact with the ground kind of covers it up. So it's hard to tell exactly what kind of damage it did.

Though what might shed some light on it is that... he doesn't get back up. He looks like he's about to... and then just slumps back to the ground, still. A few moments later, his body dissolves again, though more slowly this time, into a pile of ashes. And there is silence as a few puffs of wind stir the small pile into tiny whirlwinds.

Looks like he's gone.

Angel pops back to her feet almost instantly, partly so she can gloat and also because she doesn't want him to explode again while she's standing right next to him. She very casually slides a few steps away before pointing at the fallen assassin dramatically, grinning like a beer in a bar.

"Hah! Not so stretchy now, are ya? Now, comon, let's go again, I'm just starting to... hey, don't you run away!"

Her eyes flying wide as she realizes what's about to happen, the teen hurls herself at Duo Lon but just gets a handful of ashes for her trouble. She growls and digs at the pile of soot wildy as if she might find him buried in the ground underneath but there's just hard stone to be found there. Angel punches the rubble in annoyance but it's mostly for show, she's lost interest now.

"Shit. Well, whatever, that's another win in the bag for Angel~!"

Turning back to the gaggle of onlookers, she swaggers over to her fans and hands out high-fives and autographs freely before inviting the lot of them out to the nearest bar to help her spend the winnings of this most recent victory.
